US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (July 23) underscoring his trade-first agenda, said that Japan and Indonesia have, for the first time ever, agreed to fully open their markets to American goods—including automobiles, agriculture, and even the long-protected rice sector. The US President attributed the breakthrough to his aggressive tariff strategy, insisting that without the leverage of tariffs, such access would have been “impossible.” Posting on Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “Remember, Japan is, for the first time ever, OPENING ITS MAKET TO THE USA, even to cars, SUV’s, Trucks, -and everything else, even agriculture and RICE, which was always a complete NO, NO. They also agreed to buy BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF MILITARY AND OTHER EQUIPMENT, and give us 90% of 550 BILLION DOLLARS - AND MORE!!! MAGA!!!. Indonesia has also agreed, for the first time ever, to COMPLETELY OPEN ITS MARKET TO THE USA. That’s BIG!!! Our businesses will make a fortune. Likewise Japan!"

“I will always give up Tariff points if I can get major countries to OPEN THEIR MARKETS TO THE USA. Another great power of Tariffs. Without them, it would be impossible to get countries to OPEN UP!!! ALWAYS, ZERO TARIFFS TO AMERICA!!!. I WILL ONLY LOWER TARIFFS IF A COUNTRY AGREES TO OPEN ITS MARKET. IF NOT, MUCH HIGHER TARIFFS! Japan’s Markets are now OPEN (for first time ever!). USA BUSINESSES WILL BOOM!,” he further wrote.

On Tuesday (July 22), Trump wrote, “We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made. Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits. This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs — There has never been anything like it. Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things. Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%. This is a very exciting time for the United States of America, and especially for the fact that we will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Bombshell archival photos from the early 1990s released on Tuesday (Jul 22) have once again brought to the fore the alleged ties between US President Donald Trump and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The photos made public by CNN's KFile service show the disgraced financier Epstein at Trump's 1993 wedding to Marla Maples. The revelation comes amid uproar over the Epstein files and as Trump attempts to distance himself from the child sex offender. While Trump has yet to formally address the bombshell photos on Truth Social (per his usual fashion) or elsewhere, in a brief call with the news organisation as per the report, all he had to say was, "Are you kidding me?" His team, however, has quite a bit to say.
How did Trump respond to photo proof of his old ties with Epstein?
Trump, a prominent figure in 1993 and now, had no dearth of big names at any of his three weddings. The ceremony for his second marriage to Marla Maples was held at Manhattan's iconic Plaza Hotel and was attended by a ton of celebrity guests. However, until now, Epstein's attendance hadn't been widely documented or publicly known. As per the CNN report, the new organisation contacted Trump about the photos, and all the US President had to say was, "You've got to be kidding me," and called the outlet “fake news” before hanging up. Meanwhile, later, in a statement, White House spokesperson Steven Cheung offered a more formal rebuttal, calling the images "nothing more than out-of-context frame grabs of innocuous videos and pictures of widely attended events". He insisted that the pictures were being used "to disgustingly infer something nefarious". He insisted that “the fact is that the president kicked him out of his club for being a creep. This is nothing more than a continuation of the fake news stories concocted by the Democrats and the liberal media.”Reports suggest that Trump and Epstein's relationship stretches back to at least the 1980s, according to multiple reports. They were often spotted together at events in both Palm Beach and New York. In 2002, Trump even offered a quote to New York Magazine, describing Epstein as a "terrific guy" who "likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side." However, no criminal accusations have been levelled against Trump in connection with Epstein.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Jul 22) declared that Washington had reached a "massive" new trade agreement with Japan, a deal he claimed would bring billions in investments and create "hundreds of thousands of jobs" in the United States. Even as Trump, in his usual 'go big, or go home' fashion, touts what he referred to as 'perhaps the largest deal ever made,' Tokyo has signalled caution. In a statement, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said he would review the details before offering any official comment. "As for what to make of the outcome of the negotiations, I am not able to discuss it until after we carefully examine the details of the negotiations and the agreement," Ishiba told reporters in Tokyo after Trump's announcement.
'Largest Deal' between US and Japan
Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform, said the deal would include a 15 per cent tariff on Japanese exports and claimed that Japan had agreed to invest $550 billion into the US economy. "We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made," Trump wrote, adding that under the deal "Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits," though he did not provide specifics. The announcement comes after months of tense negotiations between the two countries, particularly over automobiles and steel, both important Japanese exports, reports AFP.

Japan, Rice imports and market reaction
Trump said that Japan has agreed to "open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things." Japan had previously resisted pressure to make concessions on rice imports, a politically sensitive issue in the nation.Following Trump’s announcement, Japan's Nikkei index rose over 1 per cent, with automotive stocks surging more than 6 per cent.

The announcement comes after months of tense negotiations between the two countries, particularly over automobiles and steel, both important Japanese exports, reports AFP.

Even as Trump, in his usual 'go big, or go home' fashion, touts what he referred to as 'perhaps the largest deal ever made,' Tokyo has signalled caution. In a statement, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said he would review the details before offering any official comment.

US Senator Lindsey Graham has warned to impose steep tariffs on India, China, and Brazil if they don't stop buying oil from Russia, as it is fueling Russia to wage a war against Ukraine. He added that the Trump administration was planning to impose a 100 per cent tariff on oil-related imports.Speaking on Fox News, Graham said, "I would tell China, India & Brazil. If you keep buying cheap Russian oil, to allow this war to continue, we will tariff the hell out of you. And we’re going to crush your economy, because what you are doing is blood money. He's (Putin) not going to stop until somebody makes him stop."His warning came in response to launching tougher action to cut off Russia’s revenue amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, claiming that these three nations account for around 80 per cent of Russia's crude exports, prompting Putin's war machine to continue. In a direct warning to Russia, Graham said, "The game has changed when it comes to you, President Putin. You have played President Trump at your own peril. You made a major league mistake, and your economy is going to continue to be crushed."Also read: Trump's achievements in 6 months includes India-Pakistan ceasefire, here's what White House saidGraham claimed that Putin was attempting to recreate the former Soviet Union by "invading countries that do not belong to him." Putin broke that promise," the Republican added. The US senator's response came amid intensifying US rhetoric against the country perceived to be financially backing Russia during its war against Ukraine. His stand reflected a broader push from Republican leaders urging America's allies and trade partners to economically isolate Moscow.Echoing his tough stance, US President Donald Trump, speaking alongside NATO general secretary Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, warned thatthe US would impose 100 percent "secondary tariffs" on any nation that continues buying oil and gas from Russia, unless President Vladimir Putin agrees to a peace settlement within the next 50 days.Frustrated with Putin, the US president said, "My conversations with him are very pleasant, and then the missiles go off at night." In response, the Foreign Ministry last week stated, "We have seen reports on the subject and are closely following the developments. US Senator Lindsey Graham has warned to impose steep tariffs on India, China, and Brazil if they don't stop buying oil from Russia, as it is fueling Russia to wage a war against Ukraine. He added that the Trump administration was planning to impose a 100 per cent tariff on oil-related imports. Speaking on Fox News, Graham said, "I would tell China, India & Brazil. If you keep buying cheap Russian oil, to allow this war to continue, we will tariff the hell out of you. And we’re going to crush your economy, because what you are doing is blood money. He's (Putin) not going to stop until somebody makes him stop." His warning came in response to launching tougher action to cut off Russia’s revenue amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, claiming that these three nations account for around 80 per cent of Russia's crude exports, prompting Putin's war machine to continue. In a direct warning to Russia, Graham said, "The game has changed when it comes to you, President Putin. You have played President Trump at your own peril. You made a major league mistake, and your economy is going to continue to be crushed." Also read: Trump's achievements in 6 months includes India-Pakistan ceasefire, here's what White House said Graham claimed that Putin was attempting to recreate the former Soviet Union by "invading countries that do not belong to him." "Putin wants to take countries that are not his. In the mid-90s, Ukraine gave up 1,700 nuclear weapons with a promise that its sovereignty would be respected by Russia. Putin broke that promise," the Republican added. The US senator's response came amid intensifying US rhetoric against the country perceived to be financially backing Russia during its war against Ukraine. His stand reflected a broader push from Republican leaders urging America's allies and trade partners to economically isolate Moscow. Echoing his tough stance, US President Donald Trump, speaking alongside NATO general secretary Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, warned thatthe US would impose 100 percent "secondary tariffs" on any nation that continues buying oil and gas from Russia, unless President Vladimir Putin agrees to a peace settlement within the next 50 days. Frustrated with Putin, the US president said, "My conversations with him are very pleasant, and then the missiles go off at night." He emphasised that these tariffs means to bring Putin to the negotiating table. "He's fooled a lot of people," Trump said of Putin, whom he labeled a "tough guy." "He fooled Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden - he didn't fool me," Trump said, adding that "We're going to be doing secondary tariffs." What is India's reaction? India reacted to the remarks of NATO chief Rutte on possible sanctions over the trade of India with Russia and cautioned against "double standards". In response, the Foreign Ministry last week stated, "We have seen reports on the subject and are closely following the developments. Let me reiterate that securing the energy needs of our people is understandably an overriding priority for us." Warning of double standards regarding the matter, the Foreign Ministry said "In this endeavour, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets and by prevailing global circumstances. Donald Trump's recent remark about his rising polls came after controversy surrounding the handling of Epstein’s files and the investigation into Epstein’s sex crimes and his death in a jail cell in 2019.
Justice Department and the FBI's memo
The Justice Department and the FBI issued a two-page memo earlier this month claiming no evidence of Epstein's murder or that he possessed a “client list” of powerful individuals he could potentially blackmail. The DOJ’s memo release directly contradicted earlier claims, often circulated by right-wing conspiracy theorists and even echoed by some within the agencies themselves. The decision attracted criticism from the supporters of Trump and several media personalities. Several also demanded that the administration release more information on the deceased. Meanwhile, Trump has continuously denied having any relationship with Epstein. While Donald Trump claimed strong poll performance on Sunday, a recent CNN poll showed otherwise, with only 41 per cent expressing support and with 57 per cent of respondents disapproving of him.

This week, reports claiming that US President Donald Trump was considering giving Kyiv Tomahawk cruise missiles dominated the Ukrainian and US media cycle. The speculation grew when it was said Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky whether Ukraine could target Russian cities if such weapons were provided. The White House did not confirm or deny the conversation but tried to calm the growing buzz. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing.”Also read: 'Game-changer on battlefield': What are Germany’s Taurus missiles? Here's why Ukraine keeps asking for them
What makes Tomahawk missiles different?
Tomahawk cruise missiles are long-range, subsonic weapons made for precise strikes on land targets. They can fly between 1,600 and 2,500 kilometres and are known for their low-altitude travel and evasive flight paths that help avoid interception. Each missile costs about $2 million and is produced by Raytheon. These weapons were first used in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm and remain a key part of the US military’s arsenal. The latest version can even be reprogrammed mid-flight and hover over targets before striking.
Why does Ukraine want Tomahawk missiles?
Ukraine has long been asking for Tomahawks. They were part of Zelensky’s “Victory Plan” presented to then-President Joe Biden in October 2024. Russia still has a big edge when it comes to missiles. It uses cruise systems like Kalibr and ballistic ones like Iskander to hit Ukrainian cities. Ukraine currently relies on Western systems like the Storm Shadow, which are effective but limited to about 250 kilometres in range. For deeper strikes, Ukraine uses drones like the Palianytsia, but these are not as precise or powerful.
What could Ukraine target with Tomahawks?
Tomahawks would give Ukraine the ability to hit major Russian cities like Moscow and St Petersburg with much greater force and accuracy. While Ukrainian drones have already reached Moscow, they mostly cause psychological disruption and airport closures rather than damage. Tomahawks could change that, allowing direct and powerful strikes on key sites. Another likely target would be Russian airbases such as Olenya in Murmansk Oblast, used to launch missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. These are usually out of reach for Ukraine’s current weapons. Tomahawks could help Ukraine hit them more often and more effectively.
What challenges can Ukraine face while using Tomahawks?
Ukraine faces serious difficulties in actually using Tomahawks. Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, told The Guardian on 15 July that the missiles are “not easy to use.” He explained that Tomahawks are usually launched from warships or strategic bombers, platforms Ukraine doesn’t have. Ukraine also lacks the naval set-up for sea launches. Using ground-based versions would require the US to send not only the missiles but also complex launch systems, which may not be practical right now.
Are there other options for Ukraine?
There are alternatives. Germany is preparing to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles, though the specific system hasn’t been named. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on 17 July that the weapons would arrive “very shortly, very soon.” He added that Ukraine would be better positioned with these new systems “in the weeks and months to come.”

United States President Donald Trump has rejected the claims that he sent a birthday card to convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on his 50th birthday in 2003. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Ghislaine Maxwell prepared a special gift to mark Jeffrey Epstein's 50th birthday: a birthday album, which included letters from his family and friends, including Donald Trump. Denying that it was he who wrote the letter, the US president claimed that the letter was a "fake thing." He even threatened to sue the Wall Street Journal.
What was written in the letter?
A “bawdy” letter to Jeffrey Epstein, bearing President Donald Trump’s signature, was included in an album of letters Epstein received for his 50th birthday in 2003, The Wall Street Journal reported. The letter allegedly written by Donald Trump bore a drawing, depicting a woman’s breasts. According to the Journal, the letter “contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker.” “A pair of small arcs denotes the woman’s breasts, and the future president’s signature is a squiggly ‘Donald’ below her waist, mimicking pubic hair,” the Journal’s Khadeeja Safdar and Joe Palazzolo reported. It concluded with the line: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.” It was unclear whether the birthday album was among the Epstein documents recently reviewed by the Justice Department.

What is Trump's response?
“This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story. I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women. It’s not my language. It’s not my words,” Trump said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. On Truth Social, he wrote, "The Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Emma Tucker, was told directly by Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE, but Emma Tucker didn’t want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly." Continuing with his tirade, Trump wrote, "The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist." He then called the Epstein Files a hoax once again, saying, “If there were any truth at all on the Epstein Hoax, as it pertains to President Trump, this information would have been revealed by Comey, Brennan, Crooked Hillary, and other Radical Left Lunatics years ago. It certainly would not have sat in a file waiting for “TRUMP” to have won three Elections. This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS!” Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on social media, calling the story “complete and utter bullshit” in an X post.

US President Donald Trump is getting called out as a disgusting, creepy old man for the comments he made to the Fox News reporter while speaking at the energy and AI roundtable in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, July 15. This comes just weeks after he publicly fawned over a female white house reporter who, interestingly, caught his attention."Where's Ms. McAdams? We're gonna do one with her too. She's great. With Fox. Stand up. Young and smart and vibrant. You've done a great job. I'll see you in a couple minutes," Trump said while talking to Alexis McAdams, a Fox News reporter, who was present at the event.Journalist Aaron Rupper posted a clip of the video on the social media platform X. Users quickly pointed out how this is giving the vibes of a “creepy old man.”

In late June, US President Donald Trump blatantly obsessed over an African reporter, native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, while signing a peace agreement brokered by the US to help end the decades-long, deadly fighting in eastern Congo. Reporter Hariana Veras caught the eye of US President Donald Trump. He openly gushed over her beauty and simultaneously portrayed himself as a defiant politician who does not care about political correctness."And I shouldn't say this because it's politically incorrect to say 'she's beautiful', and you are beautiful. I'm not allowed to say that you know that could be the end of my political career, but I said it anyway, but you are beautiful and you're beautiful inside. I wish I had more reporters like you," said Trump, and went on to give her one of the special coins.

Trump is still thinking about his new crush: "I think your reporter from Africa should get one. What do you think? Darling, that's for you. All this is happening against the backdrop of the Epstein Files controversy, which seemed to have gained mileage, as the DOJ was trying to pour water on the sex trafficking racket by issuing an unsigned memo which claimed that there is no supposed Jeffrey Epstein client list and the convicted sex trafficker did in fact die by suicide. This fractured the MAGA support base of Trump. Notably, one of the major agendas of Trump's Presidential campaign was releasing the Epstein Files.

US President Donald Trump is getting called out as a disgusting, creepy old man for the comments he made to the Fox News reporter while speaking at the energy and AI roundtable in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, July 15. This comes just weeks after he publicly fawned over a female white house reporter who, interestingly, caught his attention. "Where's Ms. McAdams? We're gonna do one with her too. She's great. With Fox. Stand up. Young and smart and vibrant. You've done a great job. I'll see you in a couple minutes," Trump said while talking to Alexis McAdams, a Fox News reporter, who was present at the event. Journalist Aaron Rupper posted a clip of the video on the social media platform X. Users quickly pointed out how this is giving the vibes of a “creepy old man.”

‘I tell the First Lady, I spoke to Vladimir’: Trump complains Putin’s ‘lovely’ calls often end with missile strikes

As Russian forces continue their grinding assault in eastern Ukraine and fresh airstrikes hit Ukrainian cities, all eyes are once again on US President Donald Trump. “I think I’ll have a major statement to make on Russia on Monday,” Trump told NBC on 10 July, a hint that something could shift, but with little clarity on what exactly that would be.Ukrainians are watching nervously. Relations with his administration, though previously rocky, have recently stabilised. Ukraine has even shown a willingness to engage in symbolic peace talks, like the recent ones in Istanbul, despite Russia refusing to compromise. Since mid-March, the Trump administration has supported a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Ukraine accepted. Russia rejected it.
Has Trump changed his view on Putin?
Trump has started criticising Vladimir Putin more openly, calling his past charm “meaningless”. But critics warn not to expect a policy shift. Trump’s frustration is growing. “Vladimir, STOP!” he posted after another Russian strike in April. But so far, that anger hasn’t turned into action.
What are Trump’s military options?
Earlier this year, Trump paused arms deliveries to Ukraine, then reversed course. “They are getting hit very hard now,” he said on 8 July. The latest plan involves selling arms to NATO, which will then pass them to Ukraine. Still, the aid is modest. Ten Patriot missiles are not a game-changer. Trump had previously frozen all aid after a spat with President Zelensky, accusing him of dragging the US into an unwinnable war. That support was later resumed, but Trump’s base remains sceptical.
Will Trump tighten sanctions on Russia?
He’s considering it. A new bill would hit countries like China and India that buy Russian oil. But Trump has reportedly pushed to water it down, fearing global oil prices could spike. “If the US finally imposes real costs on Moscow, it would mark a big shift,” said Giles. But so far, Trump has avoided serious action on sanctions.
Could the US walk away from the conflict?
Possibly. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted in April that Washington could “move on” if no ceasefire deal emerges. “It’s not our war,” Rubio said. Trump echoed that view, “We want to see it end.” Despite those warnings, diplomacy is still alive. Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met twice last week. “It’s a new and different approach,” Rubio said of the proposals being discussed, though he gave no details.
How does Russia see the peace process?
Moscow has stopped pretending. Russia now says openly that it plans to win the war by force. “We do not see any necessity to stop. Ukraine will have to surrender under much worse conditions,” said Russian ambassador Andrei Kelin. President Putin was more direct, “Wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps is Russian land.”
What is Ukraine’s strategy now?
Zelenskyy’s goal is simple, keep Trump engaged. “For us, it’s a priority to maintain US support,” he said last month. If America walks away, he warned, Ukraine will face its most difficult situation yet. Some signs are positive. Trump’s tone towards Ukraine has softened slightly. He’s also backing a NATO-led model for weapons support. Still, the scale of the support is nowhere near what Ukraine received under President Biden. And Kyiv knows better than to assume today’s goodwill will last.

President Putin was more direct, “Wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps is Russian land.” What is Ukraine’s strategy now? Zelenskyy’s goal is simple, keep Trump engaged. “For us, it’s a priority to maintain US support,” he said last month. If America walks away, he warned, Ukraine will face its most difficult situation yet. Some signs are positive. Trump’s tone towards Ukraine has softened slightly. He’s also backing a NATO-led model for weapons support. Still, the scale of the support is nowhere near what Ukraine received under President Biden. And Kyiv knows better than to assume today’s goodwill will last.

Trump to announce ‘major’ Russia move tomorrow: What's next for Kyiv and Moscow?

European leaders are rallying once again after Trump threatened to impose 30% tariffs on all EU and Mexican imports starting August 1. This had been the recurring theme in the US-EU relationship since the beginning of the second term of the Trump administration. French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday condemned US President Donald Trump's threat and called on the EU to "resolutely defend European interests".“France fully supports the European Commission in negotiations,” Macron stated on social media. “The deal must reflect the mutual respect that trade partners such as the EU and US owe one another.” He also urged to prepare for credible countermeasures if no feasible deal is reached before the deadline.

Meanwhile, in Berlin, German officials struck a more measured tone but joined in Macron’s call for swift diplomacy. "The EU now must, in the time that remains, negotiate in a pragmatic manner a solution with the United States," said Germany's Economy Minister Katherina Reiche in a statement. The Federation of German Industries (BDI) echoed the same voice, calling the threat “a wake-up call” for industry and diplomacy alike.""A trade conflict between two economic areas as closely linked as the EU and the United States harms economic recovery, innovation strength, and ultimately confidence in international cooperation," warned a senior BDI official.
A fractured west
The joint chorus of concern from Paris and Berlin shows a rare alignment when the European Union is suffering from internal divisions over enlargement, energy policy, and defence. However, Berlin seemed more docile and pragmatic compared to Macron's aggressive postures. It remains to be seen whether this can unite the EU's economic heavyweights into urgent action. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen reiterated EU will not be “intimidated into accepting unfair terms.”
