President Putin said, "The Kyiv regime&rsquo;s adventure has completely failed."
"Ukrainian defensive operations in certain areas of Kursk Oblast continue," Ukraine's General Staff said.
"The situation is difficult, but our units continue to hold certain positions and carry out tasks as assigned," the statement added.

Recruitment videos have continued into this year, with some offering generous incentives. One video promises a sign-up bonus of 2.3 million rubles ($27,000) and an annual salary of 5.2 million rubles ($62,000) to new recruits.

Some of the Chinese recruits have ended up in units like Storm-Z, known for sending fighters into high-risk missions. Reports from August showed two young Chinese men dying on their very first deployment with Storm-Z.
Families of Chinese fighters killed in action are reportedly owed 400,000 renminbi, just over $50,000. But reports say those payments are often delayed.

"All of this weaponry contains at least 102,000 foreign components. That&rsquo;s why sanctions against Russian terrorists must be more effective. Every loophole that allows them to bypass the sanctions regime must be eliminated," he added.
"New decisions and new pressure on Moscow are needed to bring an end to these strikes and this war. We must strengthen Ukraine and our army &ndash; with more air defense systems and real support. I thank all partners who understand this and continue to support Ukraine," Zelensky added.

Witkoff said: "I think it's a combination of a posture and a pose and a combination of also being simplistic. Russians are going to march across Europe. That is preposterous by the way. We have something called Nato that we did not have in World War Two."
Speaking in an interview with Tucker Carlson, Witkoff criticised what he described as a &ldquo;simplistic&rdquo; approach from Starmer and European leaders, adding, &ldquo;There is this sort of notion that we have all got to be like Winston Churchill.&rdquo;
Witkoff also offered praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t regard Putin as a bad guy. He&rsquo;s super smart.&rdquo;

During the interview, Witkoff echoed multiple Russian narratives, including the claim that Ukraine is &ldquo;a false country.&rdquo; He questioned whether the international community would ever recognise the five occupied regions of Ukraine as part of Russia.
Although leading US negotiations, Witkoff struggled to name the five regions Russia has annexed or partially controls, referring vaguely to &ldquo;these so-called four regions, Donbas, Crimea&hellip; and there are two others.&rdquo;
The five regions are Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimea. Donbas refers to the industrial area covering much of Luhansk and Donetsk.
Witkoff said, &ldquo;The elephant in the room is, there are constitutional issues within Ukraine as to what they can concede to with regard to giving up territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky found himself in the eye of the storm when his fashion sense was questioned on Saturday (Dec&nbsp;7) because he chose to go for casual dressing when attending the reopening of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris and meeting US President-elect Donald Trump.

To attend the ceremony, the Ukrainian leader decided to go with a rugged black sweatshirt, black slacks and brown combat boots. He donned the same attire when he met Trump and French President Emmanuel&nbsp;Macron at Élysée Palace.

The military sweatshirt of Zelensky had a symbol similar to the Ukraine Armed Forces' official emblem that he had emblazoned on a T-shirt which he wore in 2022.

We spoke about our people, the situation on the ground, and a just peace," the Ukrainian president wrote.&nbsp;
