William and Harry reunite for Diana statue tribute

'Smallville' TV show actress Allison Mack was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday for her role in NXIVM, a New York-based cult in which women were branded with its leader`s initials and ordered to have sex with him.

Mack, 38, was sentenced by US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn, after pleading guilty in 2019 to racketeering and conspiracy. She is expected to begin serving her sentence on September 29.

Before being sentenced, Mack tearfully apologized to her victims and her family, saying her actions while in the group were "abusive, abhorrent and illegal." She said she had completely renounced NXIVM leader Keith Raniere, who was sentenced to 120 years in prison last year for sex trafficking and other crimes.

"Coming out from under this delusion has been the most difficult experience of my life," Mack said. Former NXIVM members testified at Raniere`s trial that he established a secret sorority within the organization in which "slaves" pledged total obedience to "masters," with Raniere at the top as "grand master." Women were kept on starvation diets, branded with Raniere`s initials and in some cases coerced into sex with him.
Leaders of the group were said to use nude photos and other compromising materials to keep lower-ranking members in line. One victim, Jessica Joan, spoke at Wednesday`s sentencing, saying Mack emotionally manipulated her and eventually ordered her to "seduce" Raniere, with the promise that doing so would resolve her trauma from previous sexual abuse. Joan said she did not obey that order.
Bill Cosby was freed from prison and returned home on Wednesday, less than two hours after Pennsylvania`s highest court overturned his sexual assault conviction, saying he never should have faced charges after striking a non-prosecution deal with a previous district attorney more than 15 years ago.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued its split decision after Cosby had served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence following his 2018 conviction, prompting outrage from sexual assault victims and their advocates.

The 83-year-old actor and comedian were released from a state prison in Pennsylvania just before 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT), a corrections department spokesperson said. Around an hour later, he arrived at his stately stone mansion in Elkins Park, a Philadelphia suburb, before making a brief appearance alongside his lawyers in front of a gaggle of cameras late in the afternoon.

A frail-looking Cosby smiled and nodded when asked if he was happy to be home but did not speak as reporters shouted questions. Later, Cosby posted a statement to his Twitter account, thanking his supporters and saying, "I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence."

Cosby is best known for his role as the lovable husband and father in the 1980s television comedy series 'The Cosby Show', earning him the nickname 'America's Dad'.

But his family-friendly reputation was shattered after more than 50 women accused him of multiple sexual assaults over nearly five decades. His conviction was seen as a watershed moment in the #MeToo movement that brought forth an array of allegations against powerful men in Hollywood and beyond.

Cosby was found guilty of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, an employee at his alma mater Temple University, in his home in 2004. Constand`s allegations were the only ones against Cosby that were not too old to allow for criminal charges.

The court`s decision expressly barred prosecutors from retrying Cosby. In a statement, Constand and her attorneys said they were not only disappointed in the ruling but concerned it could dissuade other victims from seeking justice.

"Once again, we remain grateful to those women who came forward to tell their stories," they said. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, who charged Cosby in 2015, noted a jury found Cosby guilty and that Wednesday`s decision was not based on the facts of the case.
"My hope is that this decision will not dampen the reporting of sexual assaults by victims," he said in a statement. "We still believe that no one is above the law - including those who are rich, famous and powerful."

Reaction was swift, with many women involved in the #MeToo movement expressing horror at the decision. "THIS is why women do not come forward," writer E. Jean Carroll, who has accused former President Donald Trump of raping her in the 1990s, wrote on Twitter. Trump has denied her claim.

But Phylicia Rashad, Cosby's co-star on 'The Cosby Show', celebrated the ruling for correcting "a miscarriage of justice."

'ONLY ONE REMEDY'
The court`s majority found that a state prosecutor, Bruce Castor, made a deal with Cosby`s attorneys in 2005 not to bring criminal charges after concluding he could not win a conviction. As a result, Cosby was unable to avoid testifying as part of a civil lawsuit that Constand brought against him, since defendants can only refuse to testify when faced with criminal prosecution.

In a sworn deposition, Cosby acknowledged giving women sedatives to facilitate sexual encounters, though he maintained they were consensual. He eventually paid Constand a multimillion-dollar settlement. His admission, which a judge later unsealed in 2015, helped form the basis for criminal charges later that year. Steele, who had just defeated Castor in the election for district attorney in part by criticizing him for failing to prosecute Cosby, charged Cosby days before the statute of limitations was set to expire.

Steele's prosecution, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court found, essentially amounted to reneging on Castor`s earlier promise not to charge Cosby, violating his due process rights.

"There is only one remedy that can completely restore Cosby to the status quo ante," Justice David Wecht wrote for a four-judge majority. "He must be discharged, and any future prosecution on these particular charges must be barred."

One dissenting justice said Cosby should stay in prison, while two others said prosecutors should be allowed to retry him without relying on the tainted evidence.

Castor made national headlines in February as a member of former President Donald Trump`s legal defence team during Trump`s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate. The former prosecutor delivered a rambling opening statement that was widely panned by senators, including Republicans.
In an interview, Castor said his deal with Cosby was the only way to ensure he would pay some sort of penalty via a civil lawsuit.

"I feel I made the right decision in 2005, and I still do," he said. Cosby's first trial ended with a hung jury in 2017 when jurors could not reach a unanimous decision on his culpability. But he was found guilty at a second trial, after the judge, Steven O`Neill, allowed prosecutors to call five prior accusers - four more than in the first trial.

Armed with those witnesses, prosecutors argued that Cosby`s assault of Constand was a well-rehearsed offence he had honed over decades: he befriended younger women, acting as a mentor, only to sexually assault them, often with the help of drugs.

There might be a new Ocean's movie on the cards.

Don Cheadle opened up about the idea of the new movie in the series that director Steven Soderbergh is thinking about creating.

Talking about the future of the franchise, Cheadle, who played British explosives expert Basher in the trilogy, said in an interview with EW, that Soderbergh himself told him the idea of another movie.

The 56-year-old actor said, “We were talking about it (after ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’), and then Bernie (Mac) passed, and very quickly we were like, ‘No, we don’t want to do it,’” he shared.

“But I just did a movie with Steven and he said, ‘I think there may be a way to do it again. I’m thinking about it.’” He added, “It didn’t go much further than that. But I don’t know; I don’t know who all would be in it. I imagine the main group of us would be in. It would be interesting to see.”

As mentioned by Cheadle, the “main group” would mean that stars like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan and more will reunite. Collectively grossing US$1.17 billion worldwide, the most commercially successful rendition was the first, 'Ocean's Eleven' (2001). The first sequel, 'Ocean's Twelve' was released in 2004 with the final film, Ocean's Thirteen, following in 2007.

An all-female spin-off written and directed by Gary Ross titled 'Ocean's 8' was released in 2018, which starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina and Mindy Kaling.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Gilford Police Chief said Manson, who was born Brian Hugh Warner, would turn himself into the Los Angeles Police Department following an arrest warrant issued on October 8, 2019.

The arrest warrant, which was made public in May 2021, charges the 52-year-old rocker, with "two counts of Class A Misdemeanor Simple Assault stemming from a 2019 incident at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion," an outdoor amphitheatre in Gilford.
On August 18, 2019, the incident took place at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion where he allegedly spat on the videographer, who had been subcontracted by a New Hampshire-based company to video the concert. The warrant also noted that the alleged assaults are not sexual in nature.

Gilford, N.H. police chief Anthony Bean Burpee confirmed to Variety. “Thanks to over 300,000 FB comments and shares (many besmirching our agency for even filing such charges), it has forced Mr. Warner to finally address his outstanding NH warrant, which will, in turn, allow the victim of the crime to have her say/day in Court in order to hopefully hold Mr. Warner accountable for his actions,” Burpee said in a statement.

The third photo shows Alia posing with the movie crew. Reflecting at the two-year journey, Alia called it a "gigantic life changing experience". View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alia Bhatt ☀️ (@aliaabhatt) × ''We started shooting Gangubai on the 8th of December 2019 .. and we wrapped the film now 2 years later! This film and set has been through two lockdowns.. two cyclones.. director and actor getting covid during the making!!! the troubles the set has faced is another film all together!'' She wrote. Malaika Arora wishes her 'sunshine' Arjun Kapoor with a sweet birthday post "But through all that and more.. what I take away is the gigantic life changing experience! Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years.. I walk out of this set a diff person today! I love you sir! Thank you for being you .. there is truly NO ONE like you (sic)." "When a film ends a part of you ends with it! Today I’ve lost a part of me.. Gangu I love you! You will be missed. P.S - special mention to my crew - my family and friends for these two years! without you nothing would have been possible! Love you guys!!!" Alia concluded emotionally. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book and will see Alia Bhatt don a new look as she plays a mafia queen -- owner of a brothel apparently. Bhansali directorial was the first film to resume production earlier this month after the second coronavirus wave and is now scheduled to release in theatres on July 30.

The first teaser trailer for 'Harry and Meghan: Escaping The Palace' is out!

Makers dropped the first trailer of the upcoming movie based on the life of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's exit from the royal family.

In the movie, Jordan Dean and Sydney Morton will take on the roles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the movie.

The short clip reads 'Not all fairy tales have the perfect ending', and show Meghan and Harry hard time and a tumultuous last few years at the Royal palace to the exit and finally a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The makers recreated the scene, as Dean was seen sporting the same style of grey suit that Harry wore when he spoke with Oprah. Morton meanwhile cradles baby bump under a black low-cut dress and both of them sits the same way the Royal couple sat.

Starting off with the dramatic music, the trailer begins with Harry telling his wife: "I see you literally being hounded to death, and I'm powerless to stop it.'' and at the back, the trailer flashes of the couple's tumultuous years, where the couple can be seen crying, Harry wearing an army uniform and finally Oprah interview.

“I can’t lose you” the couple then tells each other.

Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, who often uses his films and social media handles to promote inclusivity, on Monday, marked Pride Month by bringing attention to the all-new Pride flag that has been unveiled aiming to make the movement more gender-inclusive.

The actor, who portrayed an openly gay man on screen in the movie 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan', and is the Celebrity Advocate of UNICEF in India, when asked to elaborate on his choice of the new Pride flag, revealed, "I read about the intent with which the new design of the Pride flag has been unveiled and I wanted to bring attention to this important conversation. The new design by Intersex Equality Rights, UK incorporates intersex people into the movement."

Speaking about the intersex movement, he further said, "I try and bring focus towards inclusivity as much as possible with my films and social media and I do feel that people need to be aware of the intersex movement.

As actors, we are fortunate that we can raise awareness to important issues and I`m trying to do my bit by speaking about Pride month."The rainbow flag has seen many modifications over the years. It originally was designed by American artist and gay rights activist Gilbert Baker, with the colour variety representing the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. The flag flew at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978.

According to britannica.com, Baker saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky. He chose eight colours, each symbolising something. Hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.

Later, due to production issues, the pink and turquoise stripes were removed while indigo was replaced with blue resulting in the contemporary six-striped flag. It was not until the year 1994 that the flag really became a prominent symbol of the community.

In 2017, the flag incorporated black and brown stripes to include people of colour, under the leadership of American civil rights activist Amber Hikes, Philadelphia`s Office of LGBT Affairs. In 2018, the flag was once again redesigned by Daniel Quasar to include the transgender community.

Chris Hemsworth is wishing his Avengers co-star Chris Evans a happy birthday. Well, sort of.

The 'Thor' actor shared a goofy post on his Instagram to troll his Marvel friend. On Sunday, the 37-year-old actor sent a birthday message to the Captain America actor on his 40th birthday.

What attracted everyone's attention was the picture though. Instead of sharing a selfie with Evans he chose 'Guardian of the Galaxy's' Chris Pratt. However, he made up in the caption and called Evans his number one. The picture is most probably from the recently wrapped shoot of 'Thor: Love and Thunder'.
Hemsworth and Pratt recently completed filming the fourth instalment 'Thor'
