As per multiple reports, it will be a limited series that would be based on the Val-Zod version of the character. Jordan's version is expected to follow the black character Calvin Ellis/Val Zod, who is from a different universe, rather than Clark Kent/Kal-El who is white.

According to the DC Database, Val-Zod, like Kal-El (a.k.a. Superman, a.k.a.
Analysts said the Netflix move is not aimed at disrupting the expanding gaming market but keeping its own viewers interested by offering new kinds of content.

"Entertainment and tech brands are adding gaming because it is adjacent to their video products, which makes gaming a somewhat natural extension of what they already do," said eMarketer analyst Ross Benes. The film is jointly produced by Suresh Babu & Kalaippuli S. Thanu, directed by Srikanth Addala, and stars superstar Venkatesh Daggubati and Priyamani in the lead alongside Ammu Abhiraami, Karthik Rathnam, Rajsekhar Aningi, Rao Ramesh and Rajiv Kanakala in the pivotal roles. It is probably the BIGGEST Telugu film to come to OTT. Here is looking at the reasons as to why that might be: 1. Venkatesh Daggubati film: The original Tamil film saw Dhanush as the leading face whose role will now be played by the one and only, Venkatesh Daggubati. 'Narappa' also marks the OTT debut of the Telugu superstar. Priyamani will be seen as the leading actress opposite the superstar in a fresh pairing, making the lead cast more exciting to look forward to. 2. Remake of a Tamil blockbuster: The original film 'Asuran' was a mega-blockbuster and 'Narappa' is all set to impress the global audience as the remake. Asuran is one of the most superhits films in Tamil cinema with a cult following and was hounded for its remake rights which were finally acquired by the makers of Narappa. 3. Big Masala Entertainer with strong content: Depicting the rivalry between the 'haves' and the 'have nots', 'Narappa' will be a grand action film with one of the strongest plots and content. Not just some of the biggest names of the industry, but also netizens and critics have hailed the storyline and called it as one gripping, thought-provoking and must-watch story. 4. Cannes breakout star Renate Reinsve wins best actress for 'The Worst Person in the World'

After more than two decades of stops and starts, it was looking like 'The Alchemist', a feature adaptation of the best-selling novel by Paulo Coelho, would finally get made. But the movie has hit a new roadblock.

Earlier this month, it was announced at the Cannes Film Festival that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith`s Westbrook Studios was joining Netter Films to produce 'The Alchemist' with a cast led by Sebastian de Souza, Tom Hollander and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

PalmStar Media, which had acquired the screen rights to the book around five years ago, would finance, with the company`s founder, Kevin Frakes, set to helm. A September shoot in Morocco was imminent, and a 2022 release was planned. However, now, with the project in preproduction and crew and some cast already on the ground, the movie`s journey to the screen has turned to lead. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that financing has hit undisclosed obstacles.

The project has been shut down, and the crew sent home, according to sources, the outlet has learned. However, a production spokesperson said the film remains fully financed and instead ran into a rights-transfer issue. The issue is anticipated to be resolved in the coming days and the project back on track within weeks, potentially.

"This isn`t a financing issue, this is just an issue with a rights transfer," the spokesperson said via email."There was a gap in an ordinary-course execution of the production rights transfer, and as a result, production entered a temporary shutdown. We expect to be back up and running with our incredible cast and crew as soon as the rights transfer concludes, and we can get everyone back on set," the spokesperson added.

Coelho`s novel, which has sold over 100 million copies since its 1988 publication and holds the Guinness World Record for most translated work by a living author, focuses on a young Spanish shepherd who has a dream and embarks on a quest to find hidden treasure in the great pyramids of Egypt. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. first acquired the film rights from the Brazilian author in the early `90s. Laurence Fishburne, a fan of the novel, acquired the film rights from the studio, with plans to adapt and direct the film himself. It was in 2008 that The Weinstein Co. attached themselves as producers, partnering with Fishburne and buying the film rights.

In 2015, it was reported that Idris Elba was attached to star in the Weinstein adaptation, with Fishburne set to direct, but the project was put into turnaround some months later and in 2016 PalmStar acquired film rights and the developed screenplays for USD 5 million.

At this time, Fishburne was still attached to direct. "It has just come back around again," Fishburne told THR in 2018, adding the feature will come together "sooner rather than later."By the time of the July 2021 announcement, Fishburne was no longer directing, with PalmStar principal Frakes instead set to make his feature directorial debut on the project, having co-written the screenplay.

In a statement earlier in July, Netter mentioned the story`s themes of never giving up."Hundreds of millions of people over the past three decades have found inspiration in The Alchemist to pursue their dreams, listen to their hearts, and never to lose hope when faced with adversity," he said.

'Titane', a wildly imaginative film about a serial killer by French director Julia Ducournau, won the top Palme d`Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival, jury head Spike Lee told the ceremony before the award was due to be revealed.

BTS recently released soundtrack 'Permission to Dance' is the new internet sensation, but seems like the South Korean government has a different perception on the song.
The government has put a ban on BTS' new hit track in Seoul's gyms and the reason is actually beneficial for people. Everyone loves speedy and energetic songs during the workout but, as per the rules, the tracks above a certain speed will be banned as they cited -- the songs are potentially dangerous for exercise during the pandemic and to stop the spread of Covid-19 infections.
The new and unusual rule by Health Officials in South Korea says music with a higher BPM (beats per minute) count of 120 is banned to be played during group exercises such as aerobic, spin classes and also to prevent fast breathing and sweating onto other people.

The newly released K-pop hits, BTS’s Permission to Dance is 127bpm, which means a big no! But the good news for BTS fans is that BTS’ other new track 'Butter' is not on the list of banned tunes.
Responding to the ban, Kang Hyun-ku, a gym owner, told Reuters, “Playing bright tracks is to cheer up our members and the overall mood, but my biggest question is whether playing classical music or songs by [the boyband] BTS has been proved to have any impact on spreading the virus,”
He added, “Many people use their own earphones and wearable devices these days, and how do you control their playlists?”

"You can be too good at your job," joked Caleb Landry Jones, who has fast developed a reputation for playing creepy characters. The Texan farm boy with an avant-garde heart won the best actor at Cannes on Saturday, and at just 31 is already seen as one of the most interesting and unusual actors in Hollywood.

"I can't do this, I am going to throw up," a clearly shaken Landry Jones said as he accepted the prize.

Unafraid to take on roles like that of Australian mass murderer Martin Bryant in 'Nitram' -- which had rave reviews at Cannes -- his career has stretched from the 'X-Men' to the mould-breaking horror flick 'Get Out'. In that movie poking fun at liberal white America's racism, he played the scary lacrosse-stick wielding brother.

Run of good ol' boys -

In fact, Landry Jones has done such a run of racist good ol' boys, it was a shock to see him as Orphan Annie in gay drama 'Stonewall'. "It's all about trusting the director, writer and the material," he told AFP, resplendent in a tangerine orange flared suit and tie in the style of 1970s Miami pimps.

Even his screen debut at 13 as a boy on a bike in the Coen brothers' 'No Country for Old Men' was freaky -- "Mister, you got a bone sticking out of your arm."

His intense screen presence and what "Nitram" director Justin Kurzel calls his penchant for "completely inhabiting his characters, really living in them" also sets him apart. He spent three months trying to get under Bryant's skin, a deeply disturbed young man who killed 35 people at Port Arthur in Tasmania in 1996.

Many critics were sceptical of another movie about a mass shooter, particularly as many in Australia were appalled by the idea of glorifying Bryant.

But they were blown away by the intimate family drama about mental illness that exploded into the headlines. Kurzel also stops the story in the seconds before Bryant starts shooting at the former convict colony.

Mothball-blue stare -Yet with his mothball-blue stare, and irises that seem to leak into the rest of his eyes, Landry Jones can sometimes come over as both distant and strange. On the Cannes red carpet, he pulled a few expressions for the cameras that seemed at odds with the sombre mood of the rest of the movie's team.

But the musician-turned-actor seems to embrace his own eccentricity and sense of difference. "I've always been really into the extreme," he said of his passion for music. "My highs are very high and my lows are very low."

And he told AFP he doesn't ever let thoughts like "'Oh no, that is going to get me in trouble" stop him in his tracks.

Sensitive portrayal -

With the memory of the Port Arthur massacre still raw, he said "it was very evident that people were going to be angry. "Some people probably pegged the film to be a certain kind of movie... but it is a very sensitive piece and very respectfully made."

Being Texan helped with his role: "The film is in many ways about the Australian male. I found a lot of similarities with Texas. So I knew what that was." Months of prep and Kurzel's notes were also invaluable.

"I really worked on the dialect for two months in Texas. But I arrived a month before we began shooting and if it wasn't for that I think I would have failed miserably." "Some brutal feedback" from ordinary Aussies about his accent hit home.

Caleb Landry Jones wins best actor at Cannes for playing mass killer in 'Nitram'

It has been won by big-name Hollywood directors and is headed by one of France's top comic stars, but the 'Queer Palm' prize celebrating LGBTQ movies at Cannes still has no official place at the world's top film festival.

Awards for films with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer content are already an integral part of other major movie gatherings, including Berlin, which has handed out its 'Teddy Award' since 1987 and made it part of its official programme.

Not so at Cannes, where the festival's leadership won't even allow the 'Queer Palm' -- which has been running for a decade -- to set up shop in its main building, the Palais du Festival. ''We're not ugly ducklings," actor and director Nicolas Maury, who heads up the 'Queer Palm' jury this year, told AFP.

Maury, one of the stars of the hit Netflix show 'Call My Agent', added: "It's a central prize that doesn't deserve to be sidelined. I think it would be a good idea for it to be part of the official ceremony."

Maury said the award, created in 2010 and independently financed, is aimed at "courageous films that feature openness and humanity" where people who are often discriminated against "are finally noticed and listened to".

'The Divide' wins -

On Friday, the jury gave this year's 'Queer Palm' to 'The Divide' by French director Catherine Corsini, a film also competing for the Palme d'Or in the Cannes festival's main draw.

The movie describes events at a Paris hospital during violent clashes between 'Yellow Vest' demonstrators and police that turned the capital's chic neighbourhoods into virtual war zones throughout 2018 and 2019.

The film's main male character is shot in the leg by police, taken to hospital and meets a same-sex couple going through a relationship crisis.

At first, the encounter between the provincial 'prole' and the artistic Parisian couple -- which is inspired by Corsini's own relationship -- is testy. But then it morphs into a degree of mutual understanding.

"What I really wanted to do was tell the story of a 50-something couple of women who have reached the point of accepting themselves as they are," the director said.

"Homosexuality both is and is not a theme of the film, because it's integral, it dodges prejudice. It's fantastic to be recognised for that."

In her three decades of filmmaking, the 65-year-old Corsini has made her mark primarily as a discreet but powerful voice for women's freedom, exploring themes of homosexuality, patriarchy and gender equality.

Past winners include Todd Haynes for 'Carol' and Xavier Dolan for 'Laurence Anyways'. 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' by Celine Sciamma won at the last Cannes in 2019.

This year's shortlist of 26 movies included Paul Verhoeven's 'Benedetta' -- also vying for the Palme d'Or in the main Cannes competition -- which tells the story of a lesbian nun in 17th-century Italy.

'Compartment No. 6' by Juho Kuosmanen of Finland was also in the running, as was the gender-fluid shocker 'Titane' by Julia Ducournau and several others spread over the festival's various categories.

From 'The Crown' to 'The Mandalorian': Meet the Best Drama Emmy nominees Helmed by the singer herself, the tour was developed by creative producer Jamie King, co-director and lead choreographer Megan Lawson, choreographer Damien Jalet, costume designer Eyob Yohannes, set designer Ric Lipson and musical director Kevin Antunes."Sharing my vision with global audiences has been profoundly meaningful to me. The opportunity to bring its message and the incandescent artistry of all involved to an even wider audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity," Madonna said. Film on Harvey Weinstein exposé 'She Said' gets release date Sharing his excitement on the collaboration, Bruce Gillmer, COO, music, Paramount Plus and president of music, music talent, programming and events, ViacomCBS said, "Madonna is undoubtedly the world`s biggest superstar, never ceasing to push boundaries and shape the pop culture landscape. She and MTV together have an incredibly storied history and we are thrilled to continue to amplify our partnership globally with the exclusive world premiere." Touted to be a documentary that celebrates the 2019 album of the same name, the presentation will feature new music, fan-favourite hits and 48 on-stage performances.

Disney+'s 'Star Wars' series 'The Mandalorian' on Tuesday tied for the most Emmy nominations with Netflix royal drama 'The Crown' at 24, as the Mouse House stormed television's version of the Oscars. Disney's new streaming service, in only its second year, also topped the prestigious limited series category, where Marvel superhero spin-off 'WandaVision' earned 23 nominations.

Apple TV+, another streamer in its sophomore year, topped the comedy categories with 'Ted Lasso' on 20, while NBC sketch comedy series 'Saturday Night Live', a perennial Emmys favourite, extended its all-time record number of nominations to 306 with 21 new nods.

The 73rd Emmy Awards will be handed out at a live, in-person ceremony in Los Angeles broadcast by CBS on September 19. The show -- set to feature a "limited audience of nominees and their guests" -- will mark a welcome return to some normality. Last year's edition was broadcast from an empty theatre, with winners beaming in via video call.

Hosted by US actor-comedian Cedric the Entertainer, the gala will honor the best in television from a unique, pandemic-plagued year in which producers struggled to film under tight Covid restrictions.

Like the rest of us, the Television Academy's 25,000 voters spent several months stuck at home, leaving them ample time to sift through a stripped-down selection of series from their sofas.

Superheroes and 'Star Wars' -

Disney+ increased its share of Emmy nominations from 19 in its debut year to a whopping 71 this time. Combined with the parent company's other platforms such as ABC and Hulu, Disney topped the overall nominations with 146.

HBO and its own streamer HBO Max managed 130, just pipping last year's record-breaking leader Netflix on 129.

'The Mandalorian' and 'The Crown' will compete for best drama against Hulu's dystopian drama 'The Handmaid's Tale', which scored 21 nods, and the likes of Netflix's buzzy period rom-com 'Bridgerton.'

Season two of 'The Mandalorian,' a space-set neo-Western spun off from the wildly popular sci-fi 'Star Wars' films, scored strongly across technical categories, in addition to multiple acting nominations for the likes of Giancarlo Esposito -- though sadly Baby Yoda was not eligible.

All three previous seasons of monarchy saga 'The Crown' have been nominated for best drama series, but the show -- like all other Netflix dramas -- has never won the top prize. The show also boasts leading contenders in the drama acting categories, including Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher.

'Best Parisian Travelogue' -

'Ted Lasso' -- about a hapless American football coach thrust into English soccer -- is the hot favourite to win best comedy series, where Michael Douglas's 'The Kominsky Method' is the sole comedy nominee from last year again in the running.

From 'The Crown' to 'The Mandalorian': Meet the Best Drama Emmy nominees

The Academy sprung a surprise by nominating 'Emily in Paris' for best comedy, just five months after Golden Globes voters were ridiculed for recognizing the cliche-ridden Netflix comedy. 'Emily in Paris' is barely a comedy and barely a TV show and 'Best Parisian Travelogue' isn't even an Emmy category," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Daniel Feinberg, as the nomination spawned incredulous memes on social media.

Elsewhere, the limited series field has arguably the most competitive and prestigious lineup of all, making the success of Disney+'s Marvel series 'WandaVision' all the more impressive.

It will compete with shows including Kate Winslet's small-town murder mystery 'Mare of Easttown,' and the Barry Jenkins-directed slavery tale "The Underground Railroad."

'Bridgerton' creator promises 'magnetic' season 2 as the show receives Emmys nods

There however was no place for Steve McQueen's acclaimed immigrant anthology 'Small Axe,' or A-listers Nicole Kidman and Ethan Hawke for their roles in 'The Undoing' and 'The Good Lord Bird,' respectively.

'WandaVision' -- which features popular characters from Marvel's record-breaking films, including Elizabeth Olsen's magical witch Wanda Maximoff -- won legions of fans and critical praise for its quirky send-up of classic TV sitcoms.

And it is not the only superhero show gatecrashing the Emmys -- fellow Marvel series 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' bagged five nominations, including for guest star Don Cheadle, as did Amazon Prime Video's 'The Boys.'

In one of the standout performances at Cannes, actor Simon Rex had to play a porn star with a monstrous ego grooming a young girl, and somehow still make him likeable. And he had to do it with just three days of preparation in the middle of the pandemic in Texas.

'Red Rocket', which premiered at Cannes on Wednesday, swings between comedy and gritty real-life drama thanks to Rex's devilishly charming central performance. To say the job came as a surprise for Rex, who is mostly known for appearances in the slapstick 'Scary Movie' franchise, would be an understatement.

He was sat at home in the early months of the pandemic when director Sean Baker, who had a breakout indie hit with 'The Florida Project' a few years ago, phoned him out of the blue.

"I had never met him before but he was, like, 'I've been following your career for a long time and I need you to send me an audition right now on your phone," Rex told AFP.

"I had five minutes to rehearse, I memorised it, I hit record on my iPhone in my kitchen and sent it to him. He said 'I need you in Texas in three days, and you have to drive here because if you fly you have to quarantine for a week.'' Rex said the lack of preparation was a bonus, allowing the film to keep a "raw" feel.

That is also supplied by the many non-actors in supporting roles -- a regular feature for Baker, who famously found a child star from 'The Florida Project' in a supermarket and another actress on Instagram.

"Most of the people in the movie he would find on the streets of Texas," Rex said. "He'd say 'You've got a good look, you want to be in this movie?' And I thought 'Fuck I hope they can pull this off!'"

As usual for Baker, the results are a revelation, and allow him to depict the sort of poorer communities usually ignored on screen.

"Sean does a very good job in all of his films... where there are these 'deplorables' that society doesn't like, but he shines a light on dark subject matter and makes them likeable, real people," Rex said.

'Red Rocket' is competing with 23 other films for the coveted Palme d'Or at Cannes, to be announced on Saturday.

Baker's recent success is sweet vindication for the 50-year-old who battled through personal crises and decades on the edges of the film industry before his breakthrough "Tangerine" in 2015, a movie about transgender sex workers in Los Angeles that was shot entirely on an iPhone.

Not much foreplay: Actor's rush to Cannes porn star role

Singer Britney Spears on Wednesday won the right to choose her own lawyer to help her end a 13-year-long conservatorship and tearfully pleaded for the court to oust her father immediately from the role of controlling her business affairs. Her father, Jamie Spears, has been a major figure in the conservatorship since he set it up in 2008 when his daughter had a mental health breakdown. He is currently the sole person in charge of her $60 million estate.

"You're allowing my dad to ruin my life," Spears told the Los Angeles judge by phone. "I have to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse," she added.

Speaking for about 10 minutes on Wednesday, Spears, 39, said she had always been "extremely scared of my dad."
She said she was fed up with multiple psychological evaluations in the last 13 years and wanted the conservatorship brought to an end without another one.

“I’m not a perfect person .. but their goal is to make me feel like I’m crazy," Spears said. Details of Spears` mental health issues have never publicly been disclosed.

Last month she called the legal arrangement abusive and stupid in a 20-minute public address.
Los Angeles Superior Court judge Brenda Penny on Wednesday approved former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart to represent Spears going forward. The singer`s court-appointed attorney stepped down last week.

Rosengart, who has previously represented Hollywood stars Sean Penn and Steven Spielberg, said his goal was to end the conservatorship.
“Does anybody really believe Mr. Spears’ continued involvement is in the best interest of Britney Spears?,” Rosengart said. “If he loves his daughter, it is time to step aside.”

Rosengart`s first job is likely to be filing a formal document asking for the conservatorship to be terminated. Spears on Wednesday posted a video of herself doing cartwheels to celebrate getting what she called "real representation."

"You have no idea what it means to be supported by such awesome fans!!!! God Bless you all!!!!!," she wrote on her Instagram account, adding the #FreeBritney hashtag.

In June, the pop star complained of being prevented from marrying or having more children and said she was compelled to take medication against her will. Jamie Spears` attorney on Wednesday said that many of the singer`s complaints were not valid.
“I’m not sure Ms. Spears understands she can in fact make medical decisions and can have birth control devices implanted or not," attorney Vivian Thoreen said.

Thoreen said Spears believes her father "is responsible for every bad thing that happened to her and that is the farthest from the truth.”
Outside the courthouse, dozens of fans held a rally, chanting "Free Britney" and calling for the conservatorship to end. A smaller rally took place near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

"If you look at her, she looks tired. She just wants her life back and I understand that completely," said fan Christina Goswick. Penny made no decisions on requests for 24/7 security following death threats against those involved in the conservatorship.

Jodi Montgomery, who is tasked with the pop star`s personal care, Jamie Spears, Ingham and the singer`s sister Jamie Lynn Spears have all received threatening calls and messages that have escalated since the pop star`s address to the judge on June 23, according to court documents.
