R Ashwin returned to the limited-overs setup after a gap of three years when India announced a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday (September 8). The Virat Kohli-led Indian side is a good mix of youth and experience but Ashwin's addition surely came as a pleasant surprise as the wily off-spinner wasn't favoured in ODIs and T20Is since 2017.

Washington Sundar's untimely injury, in the run-up to the second leg of IPL 2021, led to Ashwin's name doing the rounds. As per a report in TOI, vice-captain Rohit Sharma had a huge role to play in Ashwin's inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad. Rohit was involved in the team meeting, along with the Kohli-led team management, and voiced his opinion on how Ashwin has been tough to hit in the IPL in recent times.

Following Rohit, Captain Kohli also agreed and called for the inclusion of the off-spinner. In early 2021, Kohli was asked about the Delhi Capitals' (DC) spinner's addition to the limited-overs setup. Back then, the 32-year-old Kohli had mentioned how beneficial Washington Sundar has been for Team India. With his injury, Ashwin was seen as the perfect replacement for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spin-bowling all-rounder.

Virat Kohli-led India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup was announced on Wednesday evening (September 8). BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the announcement, which had some surprise omissions as well as additions. Kohli-led India's 15-man squad is a good mix of experience and youth but the biggest surprise came in the form of MS Dhoni's return. Dhoni has returned to the Indian squad as a team mentor for the showpiece event, which kicks off in the UAE from October 17. The former Indian captain, who retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, has led India to all three major ICC titles (T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy) and, thus, his experience will be immensely valuable for Kohli & Co. Dhoni has played and led India in all T20 World Cup games. This time around, his role will be different, i.e. to work closely with the support staff, as Men in Blue will gear up to win their second T20 World Cup and first-ever ICC title since 2013. Following Dhoni's inclusion as a mentor, the ardent fans of the former cricketer went into a meltdown on Twitter. T20 World Cup: MS Dhoni's inclusion as Team India's mentor sends netizens into a meltdown on Twitter

Finisher, captain, mentor: Roles MS Dhoni has donned through the years for Team India

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin`s selection in the squad for the men`s T20 World Cup gives the Indian team a completely new dimension. He added that Ashwin is a quality cricketer who should have played much more white-ball cricket.

Ashwin last played a T20I in July 2017 against West Indies and had been overlooked in the format since. With Washington Sundar unavailable due to finger injury, it opened doors for Ashwin to secure a place in the 15-man squad.

"Very happy for Ashwin. Probably, he shouldn`t have been out of the white-ball cricket anyways, and now he`s back. You will have to give it to the selectors and they`ve bought him back. It just gives you a completely new dimension," said Gambhir in a special T20 World Cup squad episode on Follow The Blues show on Star Sports on Thursday.

"He is someone, who can bowl with the new ball, he is someone who can bowl in the middle overs, he is someone who can bowl in the death as well - depending on the condition if he gets the game. For me, he is a quality cricketer, who should`ve played much more whit-ball cricket, as compared to what he has played," added Gambhir.

The 39-year-old was in full praise of batsman Suryakumar Yadav making it to the squad for the T20 World Cup and explained how Yadav is better than Shreyas Iyer, who was named in the reserves.

"Surya is a completely different class, as compared to Shreyas Iyer. He is much more versatile; he is much more unorthodox as well. In T20 cricket, you need people that are unorthodox; you want people who can hit that ball in different areas, and that is what T20 cricket is all about. He can lap you, he can late cut you, he can hit you over extra cover; he`s got all the shots, especially at No.4, because sometimes No.4 is the most tricky position to bat in T20 cricket, probably the easiest is the top three, but No.4, because you might be in when you have lost two early wickets and you still want to continue the momentum."

"Sometimes you come into the middle, when you have got what 130 for 2, and you have got to continue with the momentum. So, Surya`s got both kind of change, which probably Shreyas Iyer doesn`t have. And again, you gotta be mindful that he is coming after a serious injury and you never know what kind of a form he would be in the second leg of IPL as well. So, they`ve gone with someone, who has done really well, since he has gone into international cricket," signed off Gambhir.

On Wednesday (September 8), BCCI announced a 15-man squad for Virat Kohli-led Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be held in the UAE after IPL 14's final leg. The biggest surprise came in the form of MS Dhoni being included as a team mentor despite his international retirement on August 15, 2020.

Dhoni, who had led India to the title in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, has been an exceptional servant of Indian cricket. Apart from his batting, finishing, keeping and power-hitting skills, the 40-year-old also led India to all three major ICC titles. Thus, his experience and presence in the Indian dressing room will come in handy for Kohli & Co.

After Dhoni's name was included as a team mentor, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer hilariously reacted to the ex-captain's new role in Team India. Jaffer took to his official Twitter handle and reacted in the following manner:

Virat Kohli-led India are having a great time in the ongoing five-match Test series versus England in the United Kingdom. After the end of the fourth and penultimate Test, India have an unassailable 2-1 lead and will go for the kill, i.e. a series win, in the fifth and final Test which commences from September 10 (Friday) at Old Trafford, Manchester.

If Kohli & Co. win the Test series in England, it will be Team India's first-ever since the 2007 tour. Talking about the 2018 tour, Kohli & Co. had given a tough fight to Joe Root-led England but fizzled out in the end to lose the five Tests 4-1. Following the end of the final Test, at The Oval, London, Kohli had a heated interaction with a journalist and snapped him who questioned if India 'is the best team in the last 15 years'.

"The Best Indian team in the last 15 years! Do these tags put pressure on you? Do you actually believe you are?", the reporter asked during the post-match press conference of the fourth Test. To this, the skipper replied saying, "We have to believe we are the best side. Why not?" Not being convinced, the journalist once again repeated his point and said, "The best team in 15 years?" When Kohli questioned the reporter with the same question, he replied, “I am not sure." "You're not sure? That is your opinion. Thank you," said Kohli in a firm tone to end the conversation.

Talking about the ongoing Tests, India will be firm favourites to win the series when the final Test begins on September 10. The visitors won the fourth Test by 157 runs in defence of 368.

Ayesha, who hails from West Bengal but settled in Australia when she was 8, wrote on Instagram, " I THOUGHT DIVORCE WAS A DIRTY WORD UNTIL I BECAME A 2 TIME DIVORCEE.

"Funny how words can have such powerful meanings and associations. I experienced this first hand as a divorcee. The first time I went through a divorce I was soooooooo fu@kn scared. I felt like I had failed and I was doing something so wrong at that time.

"I felt as if I had let everyone down and even felt selfish. I felt that I was letting my parents down, I felt that I was letting my children down and even to some extent I felt as if I was letting God down. Divorce was such a dirty word.

Virat Kohli-led India won the fourth and penultimate Test versus England, at The Oval, London, by 157 runs on Day 5 on Monday (September 6). As the final day's play had all three results possible, with India needing 10 wickets whereas England needed 291 more in pursuit of 368, Kohli & Co. fought hard and won the game in the final session.

Following the win, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was all praise for Kohli-led Indian team. He took to his Twitter handle to laud the national side and wrote, "Great show. The skill is the difference but the biggest difference is the absorbing power of pressure. Indian cricket is far ahead than the rest @BCCI."

After England's former captain Michael Vaughan, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra also expressed his disagreement with his former captain Ganguly's comments. “You spoke about Sourav Ganguly’s tweet that they have absorbed pressure very well but the Indian team way ahead of the rest. There, I am not in 100% agreement,” said Nehra on Sony Sports.

“If you go just by the numbers, the New Zealand team has defeated you when you talk about the WTC. Just like it is his thinking, I believe that they are ahead but along with them, when you talk about Test cricket for the last one to one-and-a-half years, the Indian and New Zealand team are neck to neck,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah was one of the stars for Team India in their terrific 157-run win over England on Day 5 of the fourth and penultimate Test at The Oval, London on Monday (September 6).

Joe Root-led England resumed the day being well-placed at 77 for no loss in pursuit of 368. From 100 for no loss, England went to lunch at 131-2. While India didn't give away easy runs, they did manage only two wickets in the first session of the final day's play before things changed drastically post the lunch break. Ravindra Jadeja removed Haseeb Hameed (63) which started England's downfall. However, Jasprit Bumrah did an exceptional job from his end, bowling toe-crushing yorkers and his reverse swing being unplayable for the English batters.

Bumrah accounted for the dismissals of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow, which further pushed Joe Root & Co. on the back foot before Umesh Yadav's 3-fer led to England being all-out for 210 in 92.2 overs, losing the Test by 157 runs.

Bumrah, thus, played his part and revealed after the match how he came forward and stood tall with his crucial breakthroughs.

The pacer revealed his chat with captain Virat Kohli post the lunch break. "It's obviously very important to create pressure and we thought it's an important phase. So, I went up to him and told him that I think we should start well and try to create some pressure. So, that was the intention behind it and we're very happy to get this result," said Bumrah after the match.

"A lot of effort went into this win. All the bowlers contributed with the bat, as well as with the ball so very happy for all of them. Really happy with it and hopefully we will carry the momentum into the next match as well," he added.

"The mindset after the lunch break was that we needed to create a lot of pressure and needed to start really well. If you give a lot of runs and the momentum goes away, suddenly you come under pressure and you don't want to play catchup in that situation. So, I was of that mindset that if we start well and create enough pressure, any result is possible. We had a lot of belief and we wanted to run on that belief. I think it worked out well. Obviously, the wicket was on the flatter side and it requires a lot of patience and control, so we wanted to exhibit that and give it our all. In that moment, my mindset is that if I've given it all that I've got, win or lose, I'll accept the result."

“So that is my mindset, regardless of wherever I go and play cricket and that is something I look to carry in the future as well,” he further asserted.

He bowled that spell and swung the game in our favour with those two huge wickets. I think you pointed his performance. Rohit's innings was fantastic. What Shardul has done in this game stands out. India vs England: Here's how the World Test Championship points table stands after Virat Kohli & Co. take 2-1 lead over Joe Root-led hosts

Virat Kohli is synonymous to breaking records, on and off the field. While the 32-year-old Indian captain might not be going through his best phase with the bat for Team India, he still became the fastest to register 23,000 international runs during Day 1 of the fourth Test between India and England on Thursday (September 2), at Kennington Oval, London.

Ahead of the second day's play, Kohli attained another huge milestone as he became the first Asian, as well as the first cricketing celebrity, to touch the 150 million mark on Instagram. For the unversed, Kohli has now become the fourth among sporting celebrities to have reached the 150 million mark on the photo-blogging portal.

Talking about Kohli-led India, the visitors will be desperate to wrap up England's first innings for cheap on Day 2 of the fourth Test on Friday (September 3).
Over the years, Team India have been blessed with some brilliant captains. Post the match-fixing scandal, Indian cricket was reinvented during the Sourav Ganguly-era. Under Ganguly, India started competing while playing overseas at regular intervals and reached the final of the 2003 World Cup.

Apart from this, India ended as joint-winners of the 2002 Champions Trophy, won the 2002 Natwest Trophy, Test series versus Pakistan (in 2004) in the neighbouring country and drew the away series in Australia and England. However, India didn't win ICC titles during the current BCCI President's captaincy tenure. India weren't regarded as one of the strongest teams, in terms of temperament needed for winning ICC or multi-nation finals.

Nonetheless, Ganguly backed a whole lot of youngsters such as Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Kaif, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, MS Dhoni, etc. All of them made a mark in their respective careers and served the national side for long.

After Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid's tenure, MS Dhoni took over. His astute leadership skills, calm and composed nature and ability to switch between being aggressive and defensive in his tactics won praises from all corners. Under him, India won all ICC titles but slipped way behind in Tests while playing overseas. Moreover, while he did a fabulous job, half of the side he got was groomed by Ganguly-Dravid & Co.

Recently, Virender Sehwag named the better captain among the two cricketers. He said on RJ Raunak's Youtube show "13 Jawab Nahi", "I feel captaincy-wise, both of them were great. But I feel the best amongst the two was Ganguly because he built the team from the onset, took in new players, and rebuilt a unit. He taught India to win matches abroad, we drew Test matches, won some abroad under him."

“Dhoni was lucky in the sense that he got the same team to lead that Ganguly had nurtured, so they both were great but better was Sourav Ganguly,” he added.

While opinions may differ and the debate might go on for long, it is safe to say both Ganguly and Dhoni deserve a lot of credit for taking India to the top since 2000.

MS Dhoni or Sourav Ganguly? Former Team India opener Virender Sehwag picks better captain among the famed duo

India's 2014 tour of England wasn't a good one for Virat Kohli by any means. He struggled for runs throughout and managed only 134 runs, at 13.40, in 5 Tests. James Anderson made Kohli his bunny and dominated proceedings versus the Indian batsman, who had no clue how to tackle the speedster.

Since then, Kohli versus Anderson rivalry remains the biggest talking point whenever India lock horns with England in the purest format of the game. While Kohli turned things around and kept Anderson at bay during India's 2018 tour of England, he is once again struggling for runs in Team India's ongoing Tests versus Joe Root & Co. in their own backyard.

Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test between India and England, veteran pacer James Anderson opened up on his rivalry with Kohli and what it means to his side to see the back of the Indian skipper as soon as possible.

Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Anderson opened up on his celebration which went viral after he dismissed Kohli for a golden duck in the series opener, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. "When I got Kohli out in the first innings in Leeds there was a lot of emotion. It was the same as at Trent Bridge. I guess there is that extra something with him because he is such a good player and their captain as well. You see how much it means to him when his team takes a wicket so I want to show him what it means to us to get him out," he wrote.

Anderson has already dismissed Kohli on 7 occasions in Tests, joint-most along with Nathan Lyon, and will look to add to the Indian captain's struggles in the ongoing Tests. The fourth Test commences from September 2 (Thursday) at the Kennington Oval, London.

Want to show Virat Kohli what it means to us to get him out: England's James Anderson opens up on rivalry with Indian skipper

A lot has been said and written about split-captaincy in Team India, especially after Virat Kohli failed to guide India to the coveted title in the 2019 ODI World Cup. While India has had some good success under Kohli's leadership, the 32-year-old is yet to lead the national side to an ICC title since taking over as full-time captain in early 2017.

Under Kohli, India were on a roll in the 2017 Champions Trophy before losing the final to Pakistan. They topped the round-robin stage in the ODI World Cup, in 2019, before bowing out in the semi-finals and lost the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final to New Zealand in mid-June 2021. Hence, many have time and again suggested for split-captaincy, with Rohit Sharma (who is the limited-overs vice-captain) taking over as the T20I captain and easing the workload on Kohli.

Even Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane's name cropped up to take over from Kohli in whites after India's WTC final loss. Under Rahane, a second-stringed Indian team had beaten Australia in their own backyard to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under in early 2021.

Thus, head coach Ravi Shastri has finally opened up on the split-captaincy debate. "I am the coach of the team now, not a selector. Neither I'm a broadcaster. When my tenure as a coach ends then ask me and I will give my viewpoint. At this moment, I have to focus on the team and who is there in the team," Shastri told Times Now during the interaction.

"Yes, I am the coach. My team captain is Virat Kohli, vice-captain is Ajinkya Rahane. For one day international team, the captain is again Virat Kohli, vice-captain is Rohit Sharma, and they are doing extremely well. If you see the performance of the Indian team, tell me which other team has been this consistent in these 5 years. If not, then why speculate (who can become captain)? This team is doing well and I am happy," Shastri added.

Amid all talks around split-captaincy, Kohli is set to lead India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, in the UAE later this year. He will look to lead India to the championship, ending all such talks once and for all.

Should Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma share Team India leadership duties? Ravi Shastri gives his take on split captaincy

There were quite a few rumours of an alleged rift between Indian captain Virat Kohli and his white-ball format deputy Rohit Sharma, which broke out after the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and Wales. While the team management has always shunned all such claims, Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has finally reacted to the alleged rift rumours.

In an interaction with Times Now, Shastri responded to the news of alleged rift between King Kohli and the Hitman. He said, "I never saw it. So when People used to ask me like this, I say what you have seen I have not seen. Hamesha taalmel acha hai (the co-ordination has always been there). I have never seen it affecting the team. If I see an effect in the team, I will say on Virat or Rohit's face that this is not on and you have to look at things differently. But not once have I seen it impacting the team from day 1. I am a person who says what I want."

Following the 2019 World Cup, Kohli was also asked to react with regard to the alleged rift. Back then, the 32-year-old had strongly reacted to all such reports and told, "I too have heard a lot. Dressing room atmosphere is important to succeed. If this (rumour of the rift) was true, we would not have performed well. It's ridiculous to read such news. We are overlooking faces. I am a person who says what I want." Following the 2019 World Cup, Kohli was also asked to react with regard to the alleged rift. Back then, the 32-year-old had strongly reacted to all such reports and told, "I too have heard a lot. Dressing room atmosphere is important to succeed. If this (rumour of the rift) was true, we would not have performed well. It's ridiculous to read such news. We are overlooking faces. We are turning blind eyes towards good things. It's disrespectful to bring such news. You'll come to the changing room and see how we are. We cant show you videos. It baffles you as a team member and the captain." Was there an alleged rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma? Ravi Shastri breaks his silence

India and England will lock horns in the fourth and penultimate Test at Kennington Oval, London from September 2 (Thursday) with the series interestingly poised at 1-1. After the drawn series opener and Virat Kohli-led India winning the second Test at Lord's by 151 runs, Joe Root & Co. bounced back in style to win the third Test by an innings and 76 runs as both sides have plenty to play for in the penultimate contest.

A 2-1 unassailable lead will be for taking for both sides. Ahead of the match's commencement, here's a quick stat of how both sides have fared at the venue.

STATS

Both India and England have squared off against each other on 13 occasions at the picturesque Kennington Oval, London. Out of the 13 games, India have managed to win only 1 encounter and lost 5. Meanwhile, the remaining 7 Tests resulted in a draw.

During India's 2018 tour of England, Kohli & Co. lost to hosts at the venue by 118 runs in pursuit of 463. To add to India's woes, they have lost all their last three Tests at the venue, including two innings defeat.

PITCH CONDITIONS

Traditionally, the pitch at The Oval is akin for pacers as well as spinners. While it will begin to assist the pacers for the initial few days, the spinners come into the action which might tempt Team India to finally give R Ashwin a chance in the series. Both Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja can feature in India's XI. For the batters, they will find it a nice turf to bat on, with runs mainly coming in the second session of the day.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

According to AccuWeather, the weather in London is expected to remain fairly for the first three-four days. However, rain may play spoilsport on the final day. Hence, if all three results remain possible on Day 5, we might see rain wasting crucial time as it happened during the series opener (when entire Day 5 got washed out). As batting already remains tough in the final innings in England, the change of weather might tilt the equation in the favour of the bowling side on Day 5.

India vs England 2021, 4th Test: Pitch conditions at Kennington Oval, London weather report and stats

After the third Test ended with Team India losing the contest by an innings and 76 runs versus Joe Root-led England, all eyes are now on the fourth and penultimate Test as both sides will like to give their all with the series interestingly poised at 1-1.

Virat Kohli & Co. came into the third Test following a stunning show at Lord's, where they beat England by 151 runs, but fell flat in Headingley, Leeds. While the visitors will have their back against the wall and will look to start from scratch, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra made a bold claim and predicted Team India as the winner for the upcoming Test.

In a video shared on his Youtube channel, Chopra predicted, "I am going with India to win this Test match. Yes, I am saying India will win. The team that wins the toss will want to bat first. Batting is not a bad idea, that's for India. England, you should have batted first at Lord's because batting does not happen at the end, you get all out in fifty overs."

He further opined, "In this five-day Test match, if it lasts for five days, spinners will take more than 6 wickets. Who will be the spinners - Moeen Ali, Ashwin, Jadeja or someone else? A lot of runs will be scored in the second session of each day at the Oval ground. In the middle overs, old ball, flat pitch, slightly more spin - that's the time to score."

Team India have plenty to ponder upon ahead of the penultimate Test. For them to stage a recovery, the batting line-up will have to stand tall, especially the likes of Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, etc. Further, it will be interesting to see if the likes of R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur and Hanuma Vihari get a look-in.

India or England? Aakash Chopra makes bold claim, predicts winner of 4th Test

Team India entered the third Test, of the five-match series, versus Joe Root-led England with the momentum firmly in their favour, following a 151-run win in the second Test at Lord's. While Virat Kohli & Co. were expected to dictate terms, they fell flat like nine pins to lose the third Test by an innings and 76 runs at Headingley, Leeds.

With the scoreline now 1-1, India have their back against the wall and need to get their combination right for the fourth and penultimate Test, which starts from September 2 (Thursday) at Kennington Oval, London. Ahead of the upcoming encounter, India will look to ring in few changes in their playing XI.

What changes can India make for the 4th Test?

Kohli & Co.'s top-order is expected to remain the same with KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Kohli forming the top 4. With Rishabh Pant also fixed as the wicketkeeper-batsman, this leaves India with six more spots to fill. While Kohli stated in the post-match conference, after the third Test, that the team management might rotate few players to manage their workload, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are still expected to retain their spots, respectively.

Kohli has been very vocal on his support for his deputy Ajinkya Rahane. However, the senior batsman has struggled for consistency and has only one fifty-plus score so far in the series. Though Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal, along with Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav, are few contenders to replace Rahane, he is likely to retain his place once again.

The Oval's pitch is expected to be the slowest and, hence, R Ashwin's inclusion looks on cards, at the expense of Ishant Sharma. With Ravindra Jadeja not being officially ruled out yet, after visiting the hospital for precautionary scans for knee injury, Ashwin's inclusion will not only add to the batting line-up but will also assist India with his spin. Both Ashwin and Jadeja can be trusted with the bat and assist the tail. In case Jadeja gets ruled out, Shardul Thakur can replace him.

Will R Ashwin get a look-in? Team India to drop Ajinkya Rahane? Decoding Virat Kohli & Co.'s playing XI for 4th Test

There has been criticism for Indian captain Virat Kohli from all corners due to his struggles in the ongoing India-England Tests, in the United Kingdom. So far, Kohli has scores of 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7 and 55. While he did score a half-century in the final innings of the third Test, where India lost by an innings and 76 runs, the 32-year-old didn't look at his very best versus the second new ball on Day 4.

Kohli was troubled by the likes of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson as the former remains unsure of how to deal with the ball when pitched on the fourth-fifth stump-line. Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, which begins from September 2 at Kennington Oval, London, former India pacer Ashish Nehra has come forward and supported Kohli.

Speaking to reporters in a media interaction organised by Sony, Nehra opined, "First things first, somebody like Virat Kohli, he knows his game, that’s why he is here. He has been successful in the same conditions. Everybody knows when you talk about English conditions; they are not easy. You just spoke about Sunil Gavaskar (urging Kohli to learn from Tendulkar and avoid the shot that is getting him out every time)."

Taking cognisance of recent Kohli's struggles, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar had suggested that the Indian skipper should take notes from Sachin Tendulkar and have a quick chat with him. "Yes, if somebody like Virat Kohli feels he needs to do that, I am sure, he will definitely try to do that. But here, you also correctly mentioned that Virat Kohli got out in the slips, but not while driving all the time. He also got out defending. So it’s not like the ball is not there to drive, yet he is going for a cover drive,” Nehra added.

"Our bowlers also did that in one game. But I don’t think Virat Kohli needs to change his technique overnight. In between a series, it is more about adjustment of your game and being mentally ready. Don’t think there is any problem with Virat Kohli when it comes to mental toughness," he concluded.

Kohli's struggles, however, has been a long one. His last international ton came in late 2019. He averaged only 19.33 in Tests in 2020 whereas currently he averages 27.15 in the format in the ongoing calendar year. The Indian captain will be desperate to score a daddy hundred in the remaining two games and lead India to a series win over England in their own backyard.

Don’t think Virat Kohli needs to change his technique overnight: Ashish Nehra on Indian captain's struggles in England

Ahead of India's fourth and penultimate Test versus England, there has been plenty of talk regarding Virat Kohli's struggles. The Indian captain hasn't been at his best in the ongoing England Tests and couldn't produce a match-winning performance for the national side even during the inaugural WTC final, versus New Zealand in Southampton in mid-June.

Kohli's scores so far in the England Tests are: 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7 and 55. While he did surpass the 50-run mark for the first time during India's tour of United Kingdom, including the WTC summit clash, he was far from his usual best and was troubled by James Anderson and Ollie Robinson when England took the second new ball on Day 4 of the third Test at Headingley, Leeds.

Speaking on Kohli's form and his barren run, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar was qouted as saying while speaking on Aakash Chopra's Youtube channel. "The bottom line as far as I am concerned is that Virat Kohli has not shown the patience that England bowlers have shown against him. That was the only difference."

“He has not got out defending a lot of times. He has gone towards the ball in all his dismissals. If you see his dismissals from 2014, he did not get out playing the drive as many times as he got out defending. I feel he is playing the sixth or seventh stump delivery, which is not required to be played. He needs to check his position when the ball gets released,” Bangar added.

While a lot has been said and written about Kohli ahead of the fourth Test, which starts on September 2 (Thursday) at Kennington Oval, London, the 32-year-old will be eager to let the bat do all the talking in the remainder of the Tests.

'Virat Kohli has not...': Former India batting coach points out Indian captain's flaws amid low returns in England

Rishabh Pant was one of India's best batsman in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. However, the left-hander hasn't done anything extra ordinary in the second cycle, which commenced with the start of the India-England Test series, in the United Kingdom, in early August.

Pant so far has only 87 runs in 5 innings and hasn't played any impactful knock despite getting starts in few outings. Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, many have shown concerns over his form and mode of dismissals. While Virat Kohli-led Indian team management wants to back his fearless style of play, they want him to also be aware of the match situation.

Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, which gets underway from September 2 (Thursday) at Kennington Oval, London, former India pacer Ashish Nehra defended Pant during an online media interaction organised by Sony and said, "Somebody like Pant or any international cricketer needs to change their game from time to time but, they should not forget their strengths also. If he gets out while defending or hitting a shot, he is the same Rishabh Pant who won the Test match at the Gabba."

He further opined, "His way of batting and his style will always be a discussion point in Test cricket. Adam Gilchrist was also quite similar. He knew what his style was and backed that. Have to give him time. You’re talking about a guy who’s scored a hundred in Australia and England in tough conditions. When you talk about a wicketkeeper batsman he has already done wonders."

Young opener Devdutt Padikkal said his maiden tour with the Indian team to Sri Lanka was a very exciting appearance. The 21-year-old made his T20I debut in the second match against Sri Lanka, scoring 29 runs. In the third T20I, he could manage only nine runs as India lost the series 2-1.

"It was a very exciting experience for me. Just being a part of the group. I was really excited to be there and was just looking to learn and improve. For lots of us, it was our first tour with the Indian team, and everyone just wanted to pick new techniques up from each other and the senior players in the squad. It was a really good experience overall," said Padikkal in a Bold Diaries video uploaded by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Padikkal has been a great addition for Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He bagged the Emerging Player award in the 2020 edition after scoring 473 runs in 15 matches at an average of 31.53 and strike rate of 124.80.

In the first half of the 2021 IPL, Padikkal had missed the first match after recovering from COVID-19. In six matches, he scored 195 runs with an average of 39 and strike rate of 152.34. He also registered his highest IPL total with an unbeaten 110 in a ten-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai.

"It`s good to be back with RCB. Hopefully we can have a good rest of the season," said Padikkal about IPL resuming in UAE.

Sri Lanka tour was a very exciting experience: Padikkal

Virat Kohli hasn't been at his usual best for quite sometime. His last international ton came in November 2019 and, since then, the 32-year-old has had some reasonable success in white-ball cricket but consistency, or a big score, has eluded him. On the other hand, Kohli averaged only 19.33 in Tests in 2020 and currently averages 27.15 in the ongoing calendar year.

In India's tour of United Kingdom so far, the Indian captain has managed to surpass the 50-run mark only once, including the WTC final. His scores in the England Tests are: 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7, 55. Thus, former England captain Nasser Hussain predicted tough times are ahead of the Indian captain, who remains unsure of his off-stump and is having problems against the deliveries pitched on the fourth-fifth stump-line.

Sanjay Manjrekar, India's former cricketer-turned-commentator, also opined on Kohli's form and made a bold claim on his struggles in England. In his column for Hindustan Times, he wrote, "Virat currently is grappling with his issue outside off, 2014 is coming back to haunt Virat and if he does not leave balls as he did in 2018, he is likely to be troubled the whole series. Or, he could not be so obsessed with getting onto the front foot no matter what and make his life easier and the bowlers’ more difficult. His front foot play is just making him graft more and even average bowlers who bowl around good length are making the great batter scavenge for runs."

Kohli-led India, meanwhile, will be desperate to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series versus England when the fourth and penultimate Test begins from September 2 at Kennington Oval, London. After the first Test was drawn, India won the Lord's Test by 151 runs before losing the third Test by an innings and 76 runs to Joe Root-led hosts.
