India and New Zealand locked horns with each other on Sunday evening (October 31), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai as many expected the one-time winners to move past the Black Caps. However, India do not have a good record versus the Kiwis in ICC events and it once again got exposed as Kohli & Co. lost to Kane Williamson-led Black Caps by 8 wickets at Dubai.

Being asked to bat first, India managed a below-par 110/7 as none of their batters got going whereas Trent Boult and Ish Sodhi starred for Kiwis with the ball. In reply, New Zealand ended the match with 8 wickets and 33 balls to spare. With this, India have only a solitary victory over the New Zealanders in ICC events, which came during the 2003 ODI World Cup, in South Africa.

After the match, former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi has made a bold claim on India's chances going ahead. He tweeted saying, "India still have an outside chance of qualifying for semis but with how they have played their two big games in the event, it will be nothing but a miracle to see them qualify. @T20WorldCup."

Being asked to bat first, nothing clicked for India as they managed a below-par 110/7 in 20 overs.
With several experts and former cricketers questioning India's poor run and their tactics, Jasprit Bumrah pointed out that the bubble-life has taken a toll on the Indian cricketers. In their defence, Team India have been on the road since mid-May, 2021 and have played regular cricket since then.
India and Pakistan met each other for the first time, across formats, in over two years when they locked horns in match 4 of the Super 12 round, in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition in the UAE. The stakes were high for Babar Azam-led Pakistan as the Men in Green were trailing 12-0 in head-to-head versus Team India in World Cups (both ODIs and T20Is).

However, Pakistan produced a clinical performance to stun Virat Kohli-led India by ten wickets and register their maiden win over the Men in Blue in the WC history. Following the clash, things have gone out of control between some Indian and Pakistani cricketers on social media platform Twitter.

While Shoaib Akhtar-Harbhajan Singh were constantly sledging each other and were engaged in fun banters, Mohammed Amir tried to poke fun at Bhajji. Nonetheless, the matter soon escalated and things have gone out of control between the wily off-spinner and Pakistan's former speedster. Here's how the whole episode panned out:

Amir tried to get cheeky and wrote, "hello everyone woh pochna yeah tha @harbhajan_singh paa ji ne TV to ni tora apna koi ni hota hai end of the day its a game of cricket (wanted to ask if Harbhajan Singh didn't break his television, as, at the end of the day, it is a game of cricket."

To this, Bhajji replied by saying, "Ab Tum bi bologe @iamamirofficial yeh 6 ki landing tumhare ghar k tv par to nahi hui thi ?? Koi nahi hota hai end of the day it’s a game of cricket as u rightly said." (Now you will claim that this six also resulted in the ball landing on the tv sets at your house. Don't lost hope, end of the day it's a game as u rightly said).

Amir came back with another cheeky reply, "me busy tha @harbhajan_singh apki bowling dekh raha tha test jab LaLA ne apko 4 bowls pe 4 sixes mare thay but cricket hai lag sakte but test cricket me thora ziada ho gia tha (I was busy looking at your bowling where Shahid Afridi took you on and slammed four successive sixes in a Test match. I know it is cricket, but being hit for four sixes in Test cricket is a bit too much.)"

Harbhajan didn't stop and posted a glaring tweet in return. He reminded Amir of his fixing saga and said, "Lords mai no ball kaise ho gya tha ?? Kitna liya kisne diya ? Test cricket hai no ball kaise ho sakta hai ? Shame on u and ur other supporters for disgracing this beautiful game." (How did you bowl a no-ball in the 2010 Lord's Test. How much money did you take? How can one bowl a no-ball in Tests?)

Amir didn't hold back and once again tried to get under the skin of Bhajji with a sarcastic reply. The Indian spinner then retorted by saying, "For people like you @iamamirofficial only Paisa paisa paisa paisa .. na izzat na kuch aur sirf paisa..bataoge nahi apne desh walo ko aur supporters ko k kitna mila tha .. get lost I feel yuk talking to people like you for insulting this game and making people fool with ur acts. (For people like you, money is all that matters. No respect but only money. Tell your countrymen how much did you take for the intentional no-ball)."

In the end, the 40-year-old Harbhajan once again shared the video of him hitting Amir for a match-winning six and captioned it, “Fixer ko sixer.. out of the park @iamamirofficial chal daffa ho ja”. Responding to the video, Amir tweeted: “chal bhai me tu laga sone, u sit and do some icing on ur pichwara trust me u'll in ur senses. GOOD NIGHT." (I'm off to bed, you carry on applying some ice on your back. GOOD NIGHT).

Hence, it can be clear that things have gone way too far between Indian and Pakistani cricketers on social media. On Tuesday (October 26), Waqar Younis also made heads turn by making a shocking statement that he loved seeing Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman, offer prayers in the middle of the ground in front of Indians post Babar & Co,'s 10-wicket win over Kohli & Co.

The former pacer has apologised for his comments, made in 'the heat of the moment'. However, he has been slammed by many former Indian cricketers.

India and Pakistan met each other for the first time, across formats, in over two years when they locked horns in match 4 of the Super 12 round, in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition in the UAE.

Here's how the whole episode panned out: Amir tried to get cheeky and wrote, "hello everyone woh pochna yeah tha @harbhajan_singh paa ji ne TV to ni tora apna koi ni hota hai end of the day its a game of cricket (wanted to ask if Harbhajan Singh didn't break his television, as, at the end of the day, it is a game of cricket." To this, Bhajji replied by saying, "Ab Tum bi bologe @iamamirofficial yeh 6 ki landing tumhare ghar k tv par to nahi hui thi ?? I know it is cricket, but being hit for four sixes in Test cricket is a bit too much.)" Harbhajan didn't stop and posted a glaring tweet in return. How can one bowl a no-ball in Tests?) Amir didn't hold back and once again tried to get under the skin of Bhajji with a sarcastic reply. Tell your countrymen how much did you take for the intentional no-ball)." In the end, the 40-year-old Harbhajan once again shared the video of him hitting Amir for a match-winning six and captioned it, “Fixer ko sixer.. out of the park @iamamirofficial chal daffa ho ja”. Responding to the video, Amir tweeted: “chal bhai me tu laga sone, u sit and do some icing on ur pichwara trust me u'll in ur senses. GOOD NIGHT." (I'm off to bed, you carry on applying some ice on your back. GOOD NIGHT). Here are the tweets: Ab Tum bi bologe @iamamirofficial yeh 6 ki landing tumhare ghar k tv par to nahi hui thi ??
Virat Kohli-led India locked horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their tournament-opener in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition's Super 12 round, on Sunday evening (October 24), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Going into the clash with a 12-match winning streak over the Men in Green in World Cup history (including ODIs and T20Is), the Men in Blue were expected to romp past Babar Azam-led Pakistan, however, they lost by ten wickets.

Being asked to bat first, India posted a respectable 151-7. However, the total was below-par as Pakistan chased it down without losing a single wicket, courtesy openers Babar (68 not out) and Mohammad Rizwan (79*). From India, only Kohli stood tall with the bat and made a vital 57.

Ahead of the 2007 winners' next game, versus Kane Williamson-led New Zealand, former all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has an important message for fans and feels India still have it in them to win the showpiece event, in the UAE.

'We will win T20 World Cup' - Yusuf Pathan confident of Team India despite Pakistan drubbing

The deadline for applying for Team India head coach post, as set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has finally arrived. For the unversed, the Sourav Ganguly-led board had invited applications for several posts in the team, such as the head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach and head sports science for NCA. Leaving out the head coach's role, the deadline for all other post will come to an end on November 03.

A few weeks back, reports suggested that India's former captain Rahul Dravid had given his nod to apply for the national side's head coach post -- after Ravi Shastri's end of tenure post the T20 World Cup. It is to be noted that Dravid is yet to formally apply for the post. Currently, he remains the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), at Bengaluru.

However, after some talks he has reportedly considered the role. Nonetheless, he asked for some more time. BCCI president Ganguly had also confirmed that his former teammate hasn't officially given his nod for the top post.

I have spoken to him earlier about this as well and he was not that interested and I feel the situation is still the same.
India and Pakistan met each other for the first time, across formats, after a gap of two years when they locked horns in match 4 of the Super 12 round in the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, being held in the UAE. Ahead of Sunday evening's clash (October 24), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, India had a staggering 12-0 over their arch-rivals Pakistan in World Cup history (including both ODIs and T20Is).

However, India's unbeaten streak finally came to an end as Virat Kohli & Co. were hammered by Babar Azam-led Men in Green by ten wickets, with 13 balls to spare. Nothing clicked for India as their top-order struggled versus Shaheen Afridi (3 for 31) whereas none apart from Kohli (57) managed to get going. India posted a modest 151-7, however, Pakistan openers (Babar 68* and Mohammad Rizwan's 79*) completed the run-chase with ease.

While Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant got starts, Ravindra Jadeja couldn't create much impact with the bat. In the bowling department, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakravarthy struggled to control the run-flow and returned wicketless. Post the match, Shami has been subject to severe abuse on social media platforms by some Indian fans.

T20 WC: Chakravarthy, Jadeja as two spinners? Predicting Virat Kohli-led India's playing XI vs Pakistan

On Sunday (October 24), India finally locked horns with Pakistan for the first time, across formats, after two years in what was both sides' tournament-opener in the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2021, being held in the UAE.

With India leading Pakistan 12-0 in head-to-head tally in World Cups (both ODIs and T20Is), the Men in Blue were expected to move past Babar Azam-led Pakistan in match 4 of Super 12, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. However, Virat Kohli & Co. lost to Men in Green by a whopping 10-wicket margin to concede their first-ever game to their arch-rivals in WC history.

Thus, Kohli achieved the unwanted record to become India's first-ever captain to lose a match to Pakistan in World Cup history. However, this isn't the first time India have lost to Pakistan in an ICC event, with the trio of Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Kohli having lost a game each as captains in the Champions Trophy (2004, 2009 and 2017 respectively).

After the match, Kohli reflected on the loss and told at the post-match presentation, "We didn't execute properly. Credit where it's due and Pakistan outplayed us today. They started brilliantly with the ball, and 3 wickets for 20 runs was not a good start. We needed wickets early but with the bat they gave us absolutely no chances. It played slow in the first half and hitting through the line was not that easy as it was in the second half, after 10 overs. We needed those 15-20 extra runs an for that we needed a good start but Pakistan's bowling didn't allow us to get those extra runs. We could make the argument of getting in another slower bowler, but it's important to stay composed and understand our strengths, because with the dew the slower bowlers couldn't be effective either. This is just the first game of the tournament, not the last."

Exclusive! Nothing bigger than emotion, feeling and noise: John Buchanan on Indo-Pak cricketing rivalry

Team India fans have been patiently waiting to see Hardik Pandya bowl once again. The all-rounder had undergone a back surgery in late 2019, which ruled him out of action from international cricket for a long time. He returned to competitive cricket in IPL 2020. While he did well with the bat, the 27-year-old didn't bowl a single over in last year's IPL.

On the other hand, Hardik just bowled a handful of overs when Virat Kohli was searching for an extra bowler during the second and penultimate ODI versus Australia, during India's tour of Australia in late 2020. Since then, he hasn't returned to bowling at regular intervals. While he did contribute with the ball in the India-England T20Is, at home, early this year and in the Sri Lanka tour in July, Hardik is playing majorly as a specialist batsman in limited-overs whereas he has gone down the pecking order in Tests after not being available as an all-rounder. T20 WC: Hardik Pandya to not bowl vs Pakistan, reveals by when he is likely to roll his arms

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns with each other in match 4 of the Super 12 round in the T20 World Cup 2021, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The hype is on another level for the marquee encounter as both sides are meeting each other for the first time in over two years.

India and Pakistan had last played each other during the 2019 ODI World Cup, where Virat Kohli & Co. thrashed Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method). On the other hand, this will also be the first T20I between both sides following their face-off in the previous edition of the T20 WC. Back then, India had defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets, in 2016, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

For the unversed, India have a 7-0 lead in the ODI World Cup versus the Men in Green. On the other hand, they lead Pakistan 5-0 in T20 WC history. Prior to the clash, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-captain Rashid Latif feels India have problems of plenty with several power-hitters and bowling options to choose from. Hence, Kohli might err in team selection, giving Pakistan a chance to break their unbeaten streak.

T20 WC: Mentor MS Dhoni turns throwdown specialist in Team India nets ahead of Pakistan face-off

Team India will begin their campaign in the main draw of the T20 World Cup 2021, versus arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 (Sunday), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The Men in Blue are one of the favourites for the marquee event and will like to win their second title in the seventh edition of the T20 WC.

While Virat Kohli-led India have a daunting line-up, comprising Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, etc., the Indian team will feel the pressure to win the ICC event as they haven't won any major title since their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Following that, India have entered the semi-finals in every preceding ICC event, however, couldn't return with the title.

Speaking at length on India's recent struggles in ICC knockouts since 2013 CT win, where they've lost three finals and equal number of semis during this period, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar said they need to change their selection process and pointed out few other important aspects that need to be tweaked.

Even if you score 140, it is difficult for the opposition to maintain 7 rpo in the chase; specifically in international cricket."

"We haven't done that (batted first). Batting second invites pressure; if you lose wickets early, you need a consolidation period of 7-8 overs, so it becomes difficult to catch up," he added.

T20 WC: Sunil Gavaskar decodes reasons behind India's failures in ICC knockouts

Ahead of India's T20 World Cup 2021 opener, versus Pakistan, on October 24 at Dubai, some of the key Indian players took up the dalgona candy, inspired from Netflix's popular drama series 'Squid Game'. The likes of Hitman Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakravarthy took up the challenge where they were required to carve out shapes drawn in the candies without breaking it. In the show, players who fail to do so within the stipulated time get killed.

For the unversed, only Rohit and Shami succeeded whereas the likes of Rahul, SKY, Varun and Bumrah faltered. The video got shared on the official Instagram handle of the International Cricket Council's (ICC).

"India put to the test in nerve-wracking game," ICC captioned its Instagram post along with the video. "Indian Cricket Team stars are put to the test with a game made famous by one of the world's most talked about shows," it added.

The T20 World Cup 2021 edition commenced on October 17 with the lowly-ranked sides playing the qualifying round. The main draw of the showpiece event is set to kick off from October 23 (Saturday) where all the major sides will lock horns with each other and give plenty to cheer for the ardent fans of the gentlemen's game.

Ahead of the main draw, many former cricketers and experts of the game have shared their prediction regarding the semi-finalists in the seventh edition, being held in the UAE. Brad Hogg was the latest to join the bandwagon as he named his semi-finalists, snubbing Aaron Finch-led Australia.

No room for Aaron Finch-led Australia! Brad Hogg predicts T20 World Cup semi-finalists

India and Pakistan will face each other in the main draw of the T20 World Cup 2021 edition, in the UAE, on Sunday (October 24) in what will be both sides' tournament-opener as well. The stage is set for a blockbuster clash as the T20 format has an unpredictability factor attached to it. Hence, even though India have a 5-0 lead over the Men in Green, the Virat Kohli-led camp won't take Pakistan lightly.

Over the years, India and Pakistan have met each other only during multi-nation or ICC tournaments due to the political tension between the two countries. The neighbouring countries share a intense history; adding to the intensity during their match on the 22-yard cricket strip.

Ahead of the upcoming Indo-Pak contest, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, here's reliving some heated exchanges and epic moments between players from both sides.

1) Kiran More vs Javed Miandad: During the 1992 ODI World Cup, India and Pakistan locked horns with each other for the first time in the tournament-history. As a result, the excitement was on another level at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. During Pakistan's unsuccessful 217-run chase, More kept on chirping from behind the stumps; much to the dismay of Javed Miandad. Hence, the former Pakistani batsman started imitating More in the middle of the pitch.

While it wasn't a heated exchange, More got onto Miandad's nerves and the latter's imitation left everyone shellshocked.

2) Aamer Sohail vs Venkatesh Prasad: In the 1996 WC quarter-finals, India met the Men in Green at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. India batted first and posted a daunting 287-8. In reply, Pakistan had over a 100 runs on board with the loss of a solitary wicket. Sohail was going bonkers and smashed Prasad for a four in the 15th over; signalling (with his bat) that he will continue to smack him to all parts of the ground. On the very next delivery, Prasad rattled Sohail's stumps to bring India back into the contest. Sohail-Prasad's heated exchange certainly made a lot of noise before India beat Pakistan by 39 runs.

3) Harbhajan Singh vs Shoaib Akhtar: In the 4th encounter of the 2010 Asia Cup, tempers were flying all around as MS Dhoni-led India played a humdinger of a contest versus the Men in Green. Opting to bat first, Shahid Afridi-led Pakistan posted 267 all-out in 49.3 overs. In reply, India were alive in the clash courtesy half-centuries from Gautam Gambhir, Dhoni and vital knocks from the middle order. It came down to 10 required off 8 balls with Akhar bowling the penultimate over and Bhajji on strike. After the off-spinner missed a few deliveries, words were exchanged between the duo. The umpire had to intervene as both stood the ground before the final over, where Harbhajan's huge six took India to a thrilling 3-wicket win.

×

4) Gautam Gambhir vs Kamran Akmal: During the same encounter, Gambhir was involved in a fierce dual with Kamran Akmal. Kamran's constant appeals versus the Indian left-hander led to the two locking horns with each other during the drinks break. The situation seemed to have got out of hand when the two umpires and Dhoni had to intervene and calm things down.

5) Gambhir vs Shahid Afridi: This rivalry between the two former cricketers remains one of the most-talked about among the lot. The two have constantly passed statements on each other, making headlines in various cricket portals. Their heated exchange took place during the Kanpur ODI in 2007 when Pakistan toured India.

Gambhir took on Afridi and smacked him for a four when words were exchanged between the two. × While it wasn't a heated exchange, More got onto Miandad's nerves and the latter's imitation left everyone shellshocked. × ALSO READ | From India-Pakistan to England-West Indies: Reliving 5 humdingers in T20 World Cup 3) Harbhajan Singh vs Shoaib Akhtar: In the 4th encounter of the 2010 Asia Cup, tempers were flying all around as MS Dhoni-led India played a humdinger of a contest versus the Men in Green. × 4) Gautam Gambhir vs Kamran Akmal: During the same encounter, Gambhir was involved in a fierce dual with Kamran Akmal. Kamran's constant appeals versus the Indian left-hander led to the two locking horns with each other during the drinks break. The situation seemed to have got out of hand when the two umpires and Dhoni had to intervene and calm things down. × ALSO READ | Inzamam-ul-Haq explains why Virat Kohli-led India have 'great chance of winning T20 WC' 5) Gambhir vs Shahid Afridi: This rivalry between the two former cricketers remains one of the most-talked about among the lot. The two have constantly passed statements on each other, making headlines in various cricket portals. Their heated exchange took place during the Kanpur ODI in 2007 when Pakistan toured India. × Gambhir took on Afridi and smacked him for a four when words were exchanged between the two. The duo came close to each other and continued arguing in the middle of the 20th over when umpire Ian Gould had to separate them. India eventually went onto win the contest by 46 runs despite Salman Butt's 129.

Prior to England's T20 WC opener, versus West Indies on Saturday (October 23), Eoin Morgan & Co.'s swashbuckling opener Jason Roy named two teams that can be serious threats to his national side. Speaking at the virtual press-conference ahead of the fifth season of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he will represent Delhi Bulls, Roy told wionnews.com, "I think in our group, South Africa had a great warm-up game last night (versus Pakistan). You can never write them off. They have plenty of match-winners. India are playing some amazing cricket as well. You just can't write off any team as each other as ridiculous match-winners. I might have to sit on the fence and be boring but it will be an exciting tournament for sure."

On being asked if he would like to improve any aspect of his game in the T10 league (shortest format in the sport), Roy said, "Umm, I guess you have to be consistent with your ball-striking. In T20s, you can give yourself more time but in T10, you need to go hard after the word go. My last T10 tournament was few years back now. Obviously, Covid has messed that all up. I am intrigued to see what I can do this time around."

T20 WC: India, Pak or WI? England opener Jason Roy names two biggest threats to Eoin Morgan & Co.

After Team India thrashed England by 7 wickets, with an over to spare, in their first warm-up encounter, the Men in Blue will take on Aaron Finch-led Australia in their last practice game ahead of the main draw of the T20 World Cup 2021, in the UAE.

India ticked several boxes in their first warm-up game with R Ashwin being economical (4-0-23-0) whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were among wickets. However, their biggest concern is the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who conceded 54 runs in his quota of overs. Meanwhile, Rahul Chahar and Shami were expensive as well.

It will be interesting to see if India gives a chance to Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy and Shardul Thakur versus the Men in Yellow. In the batting department, the one-time winners are spoilt for choices with Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant going bonkers against Jos Buttler-led England. Nonetheless, they will want Captain Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to face more deliveries to attain more game time before the main draw kicks off.

Rohit Sharma is likely to return to the playing XI after being rested versus England. For Australia, they had a narrow win versus New Zealand, by 3 wickets, and will like their batters to convert their starts after their bowlers restricted Kiwis to 158-7. David Warner's form remains a concern whereas Glenn Maxwell is expected to get a look-in.
