<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the Team of the Tournament from T20 World Cup 2021. Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 crown after defeating New Zealand by eight wickets in the final at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (November 14). The champions have three players from their side in the star-studded XI of the tournament picked by the ICC.</p>

<p>Australia clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title after a dominant performance in the final where they chased down the target of 173 runs with seven balls to spare. David Warner, who slammed a match-winning 53 off 38 balls in the final, has been selected as an opener in the team of the tournament alongside England's Jos Buttler, who enjoyed a brilliant campaign.</p>

<p>The team of the tournament released by the ICC has been picked by a selection panel of commentators, international players and journalists. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been named the captain of the side. Babar had a fabulous tournament on the personal front as he finished as the highest run-getter with 303 runs from 6 matches and led Pakistan to five wins in five matches in the Super 12 before their exit from the semi-finals.</p>

<p>Warner, who was also named the Player of the Tournament, scored 289 runs and finished as the second-highest run-getter behind Babar. While his opening partner Buttler notched up 269 runs in the tournament. Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka was picked at no.4 for his heroics with the bat. Asalanka amassed 231 runs in the tournament including match-winning half-centuries against West Indies and Bangladesh.</p>

<p>South Africa's Aiden Markram slotted in at no.5 for his vital contributions in the middle-order for the Proteas. England's Moeen Ali and Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga are the two all-rounders who have been selected in the team of the tournament by the ICC. Hasaranga topped the wicket-taking charts with 16 wickets while Moeen picked up seven wickets and scored 92 runs for England.</p>

Babar Azam named captain of ICC's T20 World Cup 2021 Team of Tournament; No Indian makes the cut

<p>Australia's star spinner Adam Zampa has taken a dig at former England captain Michael Vaughan after Aaron Finch &amp; Co. won the T20 World Cup 2021 title on Sunday (November 14). Australia defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the final to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy and proved their critics wrong yet again. One of the most successful teams in the history of cricket, Australia had been written off by many ahead of the start of the tournament.</p>

<p>Finch &amp; Co. had lost their last five bilateral T20I series in a row in the run-up to the T20 World Cup in the UAE but stepped up when it mattered the most as they went on to clinch the title after a dominant performance in the final. Former England captain Vaughan was one of the experts who had predicted Australia won't last long in the tournament.</p>

<p>"I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament. But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, one of those four and maybe Pakistan because of the conditions,” Vaughan had said on BBC Test Match Special on October 19.</p>

<p>His prediction went horribly wrong as the Aussies dominated the proceedings in the tournament and were crowned champions. Zampa took to Instagram to share a picture of the Australian players celebrating their World Cup win and trolled Vaughan by using his quote as the caption of his post.&nbsp;</p>

However, Australia had a comfortable outing in the run-chase as they rode on David Warner's 53 and Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten 77 to chase down the target with seven balls to spare and win by 8 wickets.</p>

<p>Warner was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his 289 runs in seven matches for the champions. Zampa was the stand out performer with the ball as he finished as the leading wicket-taker for his side with 13 wickets from seven matches and bowled at an excellent average of 12.08. <p>There were moments of joy and heartbreaks throughout as the T20 World Cup 2021 spectacle came to a fitting end with Australia getting crowned as the deserving new champions on Sunday (November 14). Australia got the better of their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in the blockbuster final to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy.</p>

<p>It was an enthralling tournament in the UAE and Oman this year that concluded with Australia thrashing New Zealand in a one-sided final in Dubai to script a historic triumph. While the Aussies went on to shun their critics with a memorable campaign after being written off at the start of the tournament, some of the favourites struggled to make it count.</p>

<p>A number of teams rose above the expectations and performed exceptionally well to earn praise from all corners but there were those which significantly underperformed in the tournament and endured a forgetful campaign. Here is a look at three teams who flopped at the T20 World Cup 2021 -</p>

<p><strong>1) India (6 points, 3 wins, 2 defeats)</strong></p>

<p>Let's begin with the most obvious one. Team India had everything going their way in the run-up to the T20 World Cup 2021. With an incredible squad depth and the entire second leg of the IPL 2021 in the UAE to get acquainted with the conditions ahead of the World Cup, India were one of the firm favourites to end their ICC trophy drought and lift their second T20 World Cup title.</p>

<p>However, they got off to the worst possible start as Pakistan thrashed the Men in Blue by ten wickets in their opening game to end their winless streak against India in World Cups. The ten-wicket defeat at the hands of the arch-rivals saw India's campaign derail early in the tournament as they lost against New Zealand by eight wickets in their next game.</p>

<p>With back-to-back defeats in the first two Super 12 matches, India were on the brink of an early elimination from the tournament but they managed to stay in the fray till the end with three wins on the trot. However, six points were not enough as the favourites were dumped out from the group stages after finishing third in Group 2 behind table-toppers Pakistan and New Zealand.</p>

<p><strong>2) West Indies (2 points, 1 win, 4 defeats)</strong></p>

<p>No more the underdogs in the shortest format, West Indies headed into the T20 World Cup this year as one of the firm favourites. The two-time champions boasted of some exceptional all-rounders and brilliant batters in their star-studded squad. With a captain of Kieron Pollard's experience and calibre, not many wrote off a successful title defence for West Indies in the UAE.</p>

<p>However, the two-time champions had a forgetful campaign to forget as they managed only a solitary win in five matches in the Super 12 stage to finish fifth&nbsp;in Group 1. Nothing seemed to be going their way as the batters failed to fire as a unit while big-name all-rounders failed to make an impact&nbsp;with their performances.</p>

<p>England thrashed West Indies by six wickets in their opener before Pollard's men lost against South Africa by eight wickets. They pulled off a close win against Bangladesh by 3 runs in their next game which turned out to be their only win in the tournament as they lost their next two matches on the trot against Sri Lanka and Australia.</p>

<p>It was a reverting contest between the two teams with players from both sides under pressure. Warner's six off Mohammad Hafeez became one of the biggest talking points of the game as the ball had slipped out of the Pakistan spinner's hands before it was dispatched by the Aussie batter.</p>

<p>The incident happened in the eighth over of Australia's innings when the ball slipped out of Hafeez's hands and bounced twice before being hit for a six by Warner. The incident once again heated up the 'spirit of cricket' debate as many criticised Warner for going after the delivery despite knowing that the ball had slipped out of Hafeez's hands.</p>

'Bad take', says Aussie journo as Gautam Gambhir slams David Warner, R Ashwin responds

<p>Australia defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a high-pressure semi-final in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Thursday to secure a spot in the final. It was an entertaining encounter filled with drama as the two teams gave their all to set up a final date with New Zealand on Sunday. I'm going to highlight this, because now, you're thinking about the future. The players you select in T20Is, you should pick them for the slot which are available, and where the selected players have scored runs,” Chopra said on his official Twitter account. "You give preference to IPL performances which is good, but if you pick a player who has made runs as an opener for, say, number 5 spot in the international team, that won't work. He has scored all runs as an opener, how can you expect him to perform similarly lower down the order?” Chopra said. "We have 5 openers in the Indian team for the squad against New Zealand. We have only 3 matches; how many opportunities can you give? Rohit and Rahul are obviously going to play -- they are the captain and vice-captain respectively,” he added.
