India's 1983-World Cup winner Roger Binny is likely to replace former captain Sourav Ganguly as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Binny was reportedly a frontrunner for the top post ever since the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) named him as its representative instead of the board's secretary Santosh Menon for the BCCI AGM.

Jay Shah is expected to retain his post as the secretary of the BCCI and might replace Ganguly as BCCI's representative in the International Cricket Council (ICC). This will be the second consecutive term for Shah as the BCCI secretary while treasurer Arun Dhumal is likely to take over as the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per a report in the news agency PTI, Binny will take over as the new BCCI president in the board's Annual General Meeting on October 18, sources in the BCCI informed. Sources also confirmed that Shah will continue as the board's secretary while Rajeev Shukla will remain the vice president of the Indian cricket board.

Ganguly, the former Indian captain who led the national side to the 2003 ODI World Cup final, took over as the BCCI President in late 2019. At the time of his appointment, the Bengal Tiger had said in his first address as BCCI chief, "It’s an honour that I have been asked to take this role by the members when it’s a new start for the BCCI. Things need to be brought back in place, reforms need to done, huge amounts of money to be paid to state associations.

“It’s a challenge and I’ll do it the way I know. The way which I feel is best for BCCI with no compromise on credibility, corruption-free and same-for-all BCCI. Under Ganguly, BCCI has continued its dominance in world cricket, successfully organising the IPL each year since the advent of Covid-19 virus. The IPL media rights auction was immensely successful, held early this year, whereas Women's IPL is set to kick off early next year. While some pointed fingers at how the domestic cricket was neglected in the tough times due to Covid-19, Ranji Trophy also returned to action after a two-year-hiatus in early 2022.

The BCCI will soon hold electoions for the post of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary as well as the treasurer.

Roger Binny frontrunner to replace Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president: Report

Jasprit Bumrah is doubtful to be part of India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 after sustaining a back injury ahead of the start of the ongoing T20 series against South Africa earlier this week. Bumrah missed the first T20I against the Proteas in Trivandrum due to his back issues before he was ruled out of the entire three-match series.

He was later replaced by pacer Mohammed Siraj in India's T20I squad. His back injury has resurfaced at the wrong time for the Indian team with the T20 World Cup starting month. Amid concerns over his availability for the tournament, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said Bumrah has not been ruled out of the T20 World Cup yet.

"Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet," Ganguly told Xtra Time digital channel in Kolkata on Friday, September 30.

The BCCI president further added that a decision on Bumrah's participation in the tournament will be taken in the next 'two-three days'. The BCCI president's comments have come as a huge relief for Indian cricket fans, who were desperately waiting for some positive news on Bumrah's injury.

Bumrah had made his comeback from injury in the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia. However, he bowled only six overs in the entire series and ended up conceding 73 runs in what was a disappointing outing for the pacer. He was expected to bounce back against South Africa but his back injury has once again hampered his progress.

Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru under the supervision of the medical staff and will undergo scans to determine the extent of his injury. He is reportedly unlikely to undergo surgery but can be out of action for months.

His absence will be a huge blow for India as Bumrah is arguably one of India's best fast bowlers at present. He has been a prolific wicket-taker in T20Is and has delivered with the new ball and in the death overs. Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj can be his likely replacement in case he is ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah not ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 yet, says BCCI president Sourav Ganguly

BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia from October-November, early this month. The main squad features some big names whereas they mentioned Md Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer in the reserves.

Sanju Samson's omission left many of his fans disappointed whereas some former cricketers backed the decision although some felt it was harsh on him. Recently, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly mentioned that Samson, who captains the Rajasthan Royals (RR), 'just missed' being a part of the squad.

"Sanju is playing well. He played for India but just missed the World Cup. He is in the Indian team's plans. He is now a part of the ODI team against SA. Also he has done well in the IPL franchise and he is the Captain also," said the former Indian captain ahead of India's T20I series versus South Africa at home.

Samson recently led India A in a three-match ODI series versus New Zealand at home. India A whitewashed the Black Caps whereas Samson also returned with scores of 29*, 37 and 54. He will look to remain consistent going ahead to break into the main squad and cement his place for a long period.

Meanwhile, India were dealt with a major blow on Thursday (September 29) as Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the T20 WC due to stress back fracture. With all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja already ruled out, Rohit Sharma-led India will need the bowling unit to stand tall incase Bumrah is officially sidelined. As per reports, Shami or Chahar might get a look-in the main squad with no Bumrah. On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj might replace Bumrah in India's squad for the ongoing T20Is against SA.

Here's India's final 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2022:

Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh

BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly names star player who 'just missed' a spot in T20 World Cup squad

Team India failed to defend 208/6 versus Australia in the opening encounter of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday evening (September 20). Being asked to bat first, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Rohit Sharma-led India rode on KL Rahul's 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46 and Hardik Pandya's scintillating 71 not out to post a mammoth score, their highest T20I score versus the current T20 champions, but lost the contest in the last over, with Australia emerging on top by four wickets.

Thus, Indian cricket fans continue to remain concerned by the team's performances as their graph has gone down since the start of the Super Four round in the Asia Cup 2022 edition. After dominating the group stage of the continental tournament in the UAE, India lost their opening two games in the Super Four round -- versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively -- to bow out of the race for the final and are now trailing Australia 0-1 in the home T20Is.

However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has backed Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team and isn't bothered by two or three losses. "India have lost the last two-three matches. But India has a very good graph. Look at Rohit Sharma's graph as captain. He has done well. His winning percentage is 82 percent. He had captained nearly 35 matches and had lost only 3-4 matches. I know Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid are really concerned about the team. I hope they will make a comeback at Nagpur. I am not at all concerned about 2 or 3 losses. They had a talk with a team, and hopefully, they will make a comeback soon," Ganguly told India Today.

Ganguly further breathed a sigh of relief with Virat Kohli returning to form and hopes for other key players to stand tall in the T20 World Cup, to commence from next month. "India will travel to Australia some weeks ago before the World Cup. I am hopeful that India will do well and that they are prepared enough for the tournament. Virat Kohli is an important part of India's team in the World Cup. But India has to play well. Everyone has to play well, starting with Kohli, Rohit, Pandya, and all. It's very good news that Virat is back in form. I hope it will continue," added the former Indian captain.

Rohit-led India will meet Australia in the second and penultimate T20I on Friday evening (September 23) in Nagpur and hope to level the series.

'I'm not at all concerned' - BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly backs Team India, 'not bothered with 2 or 3 losses'

In a major development, the Supreme Court allowed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to amend its constitution, allowing both Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah to continue as the President and Secretary, respectively. The former Indian captain took over as the BCCI chief in late 2019 along with Shah and are now set to extend their respective roles.

SC stated that the cooling-off period for office bearers will commence after two successive terms at either the BCCI or at the state association level. Thus, the office bearers can now have a maximum of 12 years at a stretch. This primarily means that they can have two three-year terms at the state association level and two three-year terms at the BCCI following which the cooling-off period will be applicable to them.

As per a report in the Indian Express, Shah is now the frontrunner to succeed Ganguly as the BCCI President. He has as many as 15 state associations backing him for the top post as they credit him for IPL being conducted in the Covid-era.

If Ganguly -- who led India to the 2003 ODI World Cup final in South Africa -- wins and claims the top post, he will become only the fifth Indian to do so. Jay Shah likely to take over as BCCI chief, Sourav Ganguly to compete for ICC Chairman's post: Reports

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday paved the way for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah to continue in their respective top posts. The court accepted the Indian cricket board's proposal to amend its constitution and relax the mandatory cooling-off period for an office bearer.

Agreeing to scrap off the three-year cooling period, a bench led by Justice D Y Chandrachud orally agreed that office bearers in the BCCI should be allowed to have a longer tenure. The court ruled that the cooling-off period should come into play only after an office bearer has completed two consecutive terms in either the board or a state association.

The office bearers can now hold a position in a state association and the BCCI for at least 12 years straight. They can complete two consecutive three-year terms at a state association followed by two three-year terms at the BCCI. The cooling-off period will be applicable post that.

The BCCI had sought the amendment of clause six in the board's constitution, which states that an official who has completed a term of three years each at a state cricket association and the BCCI will have to undergo a mandatory three-year cooling-off period before regaining a position in the board.

The amendment was sought in regards to the current tenure of BCCIs' office bearers, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, who would have completed their respective first three-year terms at the BCCI in October this year.

Both Ganguly and Shah were serving in a state cricket association before taking over as BCCI's president and secretary in October 2019 and have completed six years. But they will now be able to continue in their respective roles and have a second term at the BCCI after the Supreme Court's order.

"We are of the considered view that the amendment would not dilute the original objective. We accept the proposed amendment," said the bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud.

The 'cooling-off period' was one of the recommendations made by the Lodha Committee in 2018 for the better functioning of cricket's administrative body in India. However, Justice DY Chandrachud-led bench agreed that a cooling-off period after just one term in office will be 'too stringent'.

“A cooling-off period of three years after just one term of three years in office is really too stringent. Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah to continue on BCCI top posts as SC amends cooling-off provision

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently offered fans insight into his take on Virat Kohli's athletic prowess and prospects on the field.

Ganguly waxed lyrical about Kohli in a recently surfaced video on YouTube. He admitted that even though they had competed on the field in different generations, Kohli had the makings of surpassing Ganguly owing to his unique set of skills.

Ganguly also admitted that although he had featured in more matches than Kohli over the course of his lengthy career, the 33-year-old is well on his way to overcome him in that regard.

He subsequently went on to admit that he was counting on Kohli to make his way back to his former glory, which he seems like he has as the former Indian skipper managed to record his first international ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.

“Let him practice, let him play matches. He is a big player and has scored plenty of runs. I am hopeful that he will make a comeback. He is just not being able to score a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup,” said Ganguly.

Having recorded the international century that had remained extremely elusive for over 1000 days, Virat Kohli will hope to carry the same form into his upcoming outings alongside the Men in Blue.

Sourav Ganguly's social media gaffe answers Deepika Padukone, Kapil Sharma, Rashmika Mandanna's post

Pakistan suffered a huge setback ahead of the start of the Asia Cup 2022 as fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi had to pull out of the tournament due to an injury. Afridi has been one of the vital cogs in the Pakistan bowling attack for a few years now and his absence will certainly hamper Pakistan's chances in the competition.

Afridi was the destructor-in-chief for Pakistan when Babar Azam & Co. faced India at the T20 World Cup last year. The left-arm pacer ran through India's top-order bagging a three-wicket haul to set up Pakistan's first win against their arch-rivals in a World Cup match.

However, he is set to miss Pakistan's opening game against India in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (August 28). While many believe his absence is a huge advantage for India, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly feels one player cannot make much of a difference in a game between India and Pakistan.

The former India captain also pointed out India too will miss the services of their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. "I don't think one player can make a difference. It's teamwork. We also don't have Jasprit Bumrah,” Ganguly told India Today.

Afridi's absence from the tournament has been one of the major talking points in the Pakistan cricket fraternity ahead of the Asia Cup clash against India. The fast bowler has been a prolific wicket-taker for the Men in Green across formats over the last couple of years and could have made an impact for his team against Rohit Sharma's men.

While Pakistan will miss Afridi, India will miss their best fast bowler in Bumrah, who was left out due to back issues. Along with Bumrah, India are also missing the services of right-arm pacer Harshal Patel due to an injury and the onus will on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead India's pace attack against Pakistan.

Along with Bhuvneshwar, India have picked Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh in their pace battery and will be expecting the young duo to deliver on the big stage.

'We also don't have Jasprit Bumrah': Sourav Ganguly reacts to Shaheen Afridi's absence

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly on Friday said out-of-form India batter Virat Kohli needs to score runs not only for the team but "for himself" too and added that it doesn`t happen that a big player doesn`t score for such a long time.

Star India batter has been out of form for a very long time and was unable to slam a century in two years. Kohli`s final century came against Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series on November 23, 2019. Kohli scored a knock of 136 runs in that match.

Since his last century, Kohli has played 18 Test matches and scored 872 runs across 32 innings at an average of 27.25. He has crossed the fifty-run mark six times with the best score of 79.

"Virat Kohli is a big player, playing for a long time. He has a different style of scoring runs. It doesn`t happen that a big player doesn`t score for such a long time. It is essential to score runs for India as well as himself," BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly in Kolkata.

The ongoing year 2022, is currently his worst year so far though not complete. He has represented India in 16 matches and across 19 innings, he had been able to score only 476 runs at a sub-par average of 25.05. Only four half-centuries have come off his bat, with the best score of 79.

This lack of centuries from the star batter who once used to hit them for fun has left many fans and players disappointed. The cricket fraternity has given a polarising response to Kohli`s lack of form over the years. While some have backed him to come good, some have responded negatively and even questioned his place in the Indian team.

India will take on Pakistan on August 28 in their opening game of the T20I tournament. Talking about the most-awaited clash between India and Pakistan, Ganguly said, "India and Pakistan matches are different.

"There is added pressure in these matches. Rohit (Sharma), (KL) Rahul and Virat (Kohli) know how to handle pressure. Nobody is less or more. Anything is possible in T20." Team India is looking for their eight-time Asia Cup victory. Asia Cup 2022 will be played in UAE, starting from August 27 through September 11.

Bhaichung Bhutia draws parallels with Sourav Ganguly to explain why he deserves AIFF presidential post

India and Pakistan will lock horns in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, on August 28. Over the years, both the Asian giants play each other only during ICC or multi-nation tournaments but the buzz and hype around every Indo-Pak clash remains extremely high.

Before Rohit Sharma's Team India and Babar Azam-led Pakistan lock horns in the Asia Cup, where they can meet each other thrice (including the final), former Indian opener Virender Sehwag recalled the two teams' 2003 ODI World Cup clash, held in Centurion.

Back then, the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team were asked to chase a challenging 274 -- after Saeed Anwar's 101 -- and rode on Sachin Tendulkar's majestic 98, off 75 balls, and crucial knocks from Md Kaif, Rahul Dravid (44 not out) and Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 50. However, Tendulkar had to fall back upon Sehwag to fill in as his runner due to Master Blaster's cramps. Recently, Sehwag revealed what happened when he joined Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid in the middle as the former's runner.

“We knew it was an important game. But Tendulkar was so experienced, he had played so many games against Pakistan.. he knew that he need to be prepared for it. If I have to consider his World Cup knocks, it was his best. I also came to run for him during the game because he was having cramps, and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi was abusing him a lot, kept saying something or the other. But he remained focused. He knew it was important for him to stay at the crease. He usually doesn't take a runner, but still he knew that if I come, I will run like he does. There won't be any misunderstanding," Sehwag said on a video posted by Star Sports.

Sehwag went onto add, "No matter what series it is (ICC tournament or bilateral), the match between India and Pakistan is always intense. And we will always see fights or incidents taking place between players of both the countries. And I remember there was a statement from Shoaib Akhtar that he will absolutely destroy the top order. I didn't read the statement, neither did Sachin, but Sachin did respond strongly to it in the first over of our innings. He hit 18 runs in that over."

In the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid era, India are shaping up really well ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, from October-November in Australia. The T20I line-up is playing with a lot of freedom and aggression whereas the ODI team has also done well. The Test squad, however, has lost some golden opportunities of winning a series in South Africa and England as they continue to rebuild post the staggering success achieved in the Virat Kohli-era.

Nonetheless, India have not looked out of sorts in any format post Kohli's captaincy tenure. One of the most-talked-about-aspects in the Rohit-Rahul era is that India have made multiple captaincy changes in 2022, with as many as seven players leading the side across formats. Thus, a lot has been said and written on India's multiple captaincy changes in the ongoing calendar year. This has primarily been done to give rest to senior players, along with regular captain Rohit, which has resulted in various future captaincy contenders auditioning for the top post whereas it has also led to the national team having a huge pool of players.

Recently, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly also opined on India's multiple captaincy changes in 2022 and explained how it has been beneficial. "Rohit Sharma is now the all-format captain. And they play so much, injuries are bound to happen and hence they do need injury-breaks. This gives the advantage that there are a lot of new players who have come up. And we won in West Indies and in England with these new bunch of players. India now have a pool of 30 players who can now play for the national team anytime,” Ganguly told India Today.

Sourav Ganguly opines on Team India's multiple captaincy changes in 2022, explains how it has been beneficial

Senior batter Virat Kohli's form is a huge concern for the Indian team ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE. The premier tournament is all set to get underway on August 27 with India locking horns with Pakistan in a marquee clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on August 28.

Kohli, who is currently on a break, will return to action for the Men in Blue in the tournament and will be hoping to bounce back to form. Kohli has endured a lean patch in international cricket for a while now and has not scored a century for the Indian team for almost three years now.

Kohli was last seen in action for the Indian team during their tour of England earlier this year. He had a disastrous run with the willow as the former India skipper flopped across all three formats of the game.

Amid his poor form, Board Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has backed the senior batter to roar back to form. Ganguly urged Kohli to practice more and play more matches while expressing confidence in his abilities.

“Let him practice, let him play matches. He is a big player and has scored plenty of runs. I am hopeful that he will make a comeback. He is just not being able to score a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

Kohli has been a prolific run-getter in the Asia Cup over the years, averaging over 60 in the tournament. The former India skipper had missed the last edition of the tournament in 2018 when Rohit Sharma led India to a memorable title triumph after a win over Bangladesh in the final.

India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan and will be hoping to get off to a winning start. The Men in Blue had lost against Pakistan in the last meeting between the two sides at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and will be hopeful of avenging their defeat this time around.

While the players will undoubtedly be under massive pressure in the high-profile clash, Ganguly believes the much-awaited encounter should be seen as just another game.

"I am seeing it as the Asia Cup. I do do not see any tournament as India vs Pakistan. When I used to be in my playing days, India vs Pakistan was just another match for me. I always looked to win the tournament," said the former India captain.

Sourav Ganguly to lead India vs World Giants in 75th year of Indian Independence special match

Since the early 2010s, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the mainstays of Team India. While both the cricketers have a huge following, their fans often engage in a tussle on social media platforms regarding who is the best among the duo.

However, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer was asked to comment on the Kohli vs Rohit debate on social media, Arun Dhumal gave an interesting take.

"We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that. And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think it persists. We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true," Dhumal stated in a video posted on senior journalist Vimal Kumar's YouTube channel.

Dhumal also spoke about the much-talked about Kohli vs BCCI captaincy saga. "As far as the issue of captaincy is concerned, it was his call. He decided that mujhe ab nahi karni hai captaincy (that I don’t want to captain). It is possible that someone feels it’s best to do it after the World Cup, but that is their point of view. But he wanted to quit, and it was purely his decision. And we respected it. He has contributed so much to Indian cricket that everyone in the cricket board respects him. We would like to see Virat in action on the ground," he added.

Both Rohit and Kohli are indispensable to the Indian cricket team and are expected to reunite for India's upcoming Asia Cup 2022 campaign. At present, Kohli has been rested for India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies.

India are set to host South Africa and Australia for three T20Is each before heading to the forthcoming T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November. BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly confirmed the development after the board's Apex Council on Thursday (July 21).

Virat Kohli-led India had a disastrous campaign in last year's T20 World Cup, held in the UAE. Hence, the board is keen to leave no stone unturned this time around to ensure Men in Blue's success in the upcoming showpiece event Down Under. Hence, two more home series have been confirmed now in the shortest format in the run-up to the marquee tournament.

"We will host SA and Australia for three T20Is each before going for the T20 World Cup. South Africa will come to India after concluding their ongoing England tour (in September). All those venues which didn’t get to stage a game against SA- Ranchi, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Indore, Mohali- will host T20Is against SA and Australia,” Ganguly told the media.

India to host South Africa, Australia for three T20Is each prior to T20 World Cup, reveals Sourav Ganguly

The Supreme Court on Thursday appointed senior advocate Maninder Singh as an amicus curiae to assist it in the matter related to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and fixed the hearing on the plea of the cricket body for amending its constitution concerning tenure of office bearers on July 28.

A bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli took note of the fact that an earlier amicus curiae has now been elevated as a judge of the apex court. "We will appoint senior advocate Maninder Singh as an amicus in place of P S Narasimha (now Justice P S Narasimha)," said the bench and fixed the plea of BCCI for hearing on July 28.

The plea of the cricket body seeks to amend its constitution concerning the tenure of its office bearers including its President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah by doing away with the mandatory cooling-off period between tenures of office bearers across state cricket associations and the BCCI. Earlier, the Justice RM Lodha-led committee had recommended reforms in the BCCI which have been accepted by the top court.

From Rohit Sharma to Babar Azam: How cricket fraternity has reacted to Virat Kohli's poor form

Virat Kohli has been making the headlines due to his poor returns with the bat. While his century-drought continues, since late 2019, the right-hander is now even struggling to cross the fifty-run mark in India's ongoing tour of England.

In the Edgbaston Test, Kohli returned with scores of 11 and 20. He was rested for the T20I series opener before he returned for the last two games, scoring 1 and 11, respectively. In the first ODI, Kohli was not part of the playing XI due to groin injury before he made a comeback in the second and penultimate ODI, at Lord's on Thursday (July 14), where he only managed a 25-ball 16 in Men in Blue's moderate 247-run chase.

Before the 2nd ODI, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly opined on Kohli's poor run of form and lavished praise on the former Indian captain.

BCCI chief Ganguly has, thus, backed Kohli to come good very soon. “Of course, look at the numbers he has got in international cricket that doesn’t happen without ability and quality. Yes, he has had a tough time and he knows that. He has been a great player himself. He himself knows by his own standards it has not been good and I see him coming back and doing well. But he has got to find his way and become successful, which he has been for the last 12-13 years or more and only Virat Kohli can do that,” said the former Indian skipper while speaking to news agency ANI.

A lot of former cricketers, such as Kapil Dev and Venkatesh Prasad, have now even questioned Kohli's place in the Indian team. In this regard, the 50-year-old Ganguly said, "These things will happen in sport. It has happened to everybody. It has happened to Sachin, It has happened to Rahul, it has happened to me, it has happened to Kohli. It is going to happen to future players. That’s part and parcel of sport and I think as a sportsman you just need to listen, be aware of what it is and just go and play your game."

'He has got to find his way and....' - BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly reacts to Virat Kohli's poor form

Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has slammed Team India's recent policy of resting out-of-form players and not dropping them from the team based on their reputation. Prasad believes giving breaks to players like captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would not help them in regaining their form while also stating that there are a number of talented youngsters waiting in the wings to get opportunities for Team India.

Prasad's comments came after India's 17-run loss against England in the 2nd T20I where the likes of Kohli and Rohit failed to deliver yet again on top of the order. Both the batters were dismissed on 11 runs each as India's top-order crumbled under pressure in the 216-run chase. Suryakumar Yadav slammed a stunning knock of 117 runs in the game but it was not enough to take India over the line.

Prasad's remarks have come at a time when Kohli, in particular, is facing criticism from all corners over his ongoing lean patch. The star batter has struggled across all formats in international cricket for a while now and his recent failures have led to former cricketers and experts questioning his spot in India's T20I team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 this year.

Prasad too took to Twitter to take a dig at India's selection policy under captain Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid, pointing out how some of the legends of the game have also been dropped by Team India in the past for not performing well at the highest level. Prasad said players cannot play on reputation when talented youngsters are waiting in the wings.

"There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag,Yuvraj, Zaheer, Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs and staged a comeback," Prasad wrote in a tweet.

"The yardsticks seem to have changed drastically now, where there is rest for being out of form. This is no way for progress. There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winner, Anil Kumble sat out on so many occasions, need action’s for the larger good," he added.

While former players and experts have demanded Kohli be dropped from the T20I team, Indian skipper Rohit backed the out-of-form superstar following India's 17-run defeat in the 3rd T20I against England on Sunday. Rohit said the team management believes in Kohli's quality and will continue to back him as highs and lows are part of a player's career.

Ganguly, Sehwag all have been dropped: Venkatesh Prasad slams India's decision to rest out-of-form players

It is Sourav Ganguly's 50th birthday on Friday (July 08). The former Indian captain and current BCCI President turns 50 as the whole cricketing fraternity joined in to wish him on his special day. Ganguly was instrumental in the rise of Indian cricket post the shambolic match-fixing saga, which rocked the national team in the early 2000s, and led the Men in Blue from 2000-2005.

Under Ganguly, India revamped and produced a host of talented cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Mohammed Kaif, etc. whereas seniors such as Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble and Sachin Tendulkar also enjoyed a long and successful run. Ganguly retired from international cricket in 2008, with over 7,212 and 11,363 Test and ODI runs, respectively. He is serving as the BCCI chief since late 2019 and currently is in London with his family and friends for his 50th birthday.

On his birthday, Ganguly made heads turn by grooving to famous Bollywood songs in the streets of London with his family -- daughter Sana and wife Dona -- friends and a group of fans. Here's a video where Ganguly can be seen enjoying himself and dancing all-out in celebrations:

Here's a video where Ganguly can be seen enjoying himself and dancing all-out in celebrations: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Satadru Dutta (@satadrutravel) × × ALSO READ | Sourav Ganguly built a new team, doubt if Virat Kohli did the same as captain, says Virender Sehwag A lot of Ganguly's former teammates have also wished him on his 50th birthday. Following the end of the IPL media rights auction, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had made a big revelation that the board plans to extend the window for the cash-rich league from the next season, in order to have more international players available throughout an edition. Following this, reports were flowing in that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is unhappy with this development and is set to discuss the matter at ICC's board meeting, to be held later this year in Birmingham.

"From the next FTP cycle, IPL will have an official two-and-a-half-month window so that all the top international cricketers can participate. We have had discussions with various boards as well as the ICC," Shah had told PTI.

Thus, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has now reacted to the proposed plan of extending the IPL window from next year. In this regard, the former Pakistan captain said during a media interaction on Friday (June 24), "There has been no announcement or decision as yet on the IPL window being increased. I will give my views on this issue at the ICC conference."

Ramiz has also opined on his plans of seeing India-Pakistan lock horns on the 22-yard cricket strip outside ICC tournaments. In this context, he had suggested for a multi-team tournament several times in the recent past. He revealed, "I have spoken to Sourav on the sidelines on this, and I told him that presently there are three former cricketers heading their cricket boards and if they can't make a difference, who will? Twice Ganguly has invited me to attend the IPL finals last year and this year, and cricketing-wise, it made sense to go, but then, because of the situation, we had to look at the fallout of accepting the invitations," he further added.

The IPL media rights auction was a huge hit as many had their eyes glued on how the proceedings would eventually end. After a three-day auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) laughed its way to the bank by earning a staggering INR 48,390.52 crore from the media rights auction for IPL 2023-27, i.e. more than two and a half times the amount it earned for the previous cycle in 2018.

IPL media rights auction: Disney Star, Viacom18 among winners as BCCI earns UNIMAGINABLE amount

The Indian Premier League (IPL) in a span of just 15 years has managed to become one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world. The inaugural edition of the IPL was played in 2008 and there has been no looking back ever since as the T20 league continues to witness a massive growth in its popularity across the globe. IPL is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world and has the best players from across the globe playing their trade in the competition.

IPL is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is the richest cricket board in the world. While there is no doubting IPL's popularity and its staggering growth over the years, the T20 league has still some distance to cover to become the most popular sporting league in the world.

However, BCCI president and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly recently made a bold claim stating that the IPL earns more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL). The English Premier League is the top-tier tournament in English football and is one of the most-watched sporting leagues globally.

But speaking at the India Leadership Council event, Ganguly said IPL earns more revenue than EPL and it gives him immense happiness to have witnessed cricket grow from strength to strength over the years.
