Batting first, Rohit-led India posted a competitive 184-7&nbsp;in 20 overs riding on Captain Rohit's 56 and contributions from Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar's finishing knock. While New Zealand was never in the run-chase, despite Martin Guptill's attacking 51, the Kiwis folded for a paltry 111 all-out in 17.2 overs as Axar Patel's 3-fer and Harshal's 2 for 26 thrashed the visitors.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nonetheless, the Kiwis did have their moments during India's batting. After a solid start from Rohit-Ishan, India did lose quick wickets and were reduced to 83-3, from 69 for no loss, when Rohit and Shreyas stitched a partnership for the third-wicket. Against the run of play, Rohit tried to take on Ish Sodhi but the leg-spinner managed to dismiss the dangerous Hitman with a splendid and effortless one-handed stunner.&nbsp;

The ball didn't bounce as expected and Rohit couldn't get the desired timing, as the ball hit his bottom of the bat, to give Sodhi a catching opportunity. While the ball still raced towards the leg-spinner, he responded in style to pluck a stunning return catch. Here's the video:

'Not easy for NZ to...' - Rahul Dravid sympathises with Black Caps after India whitewash T20I series

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made his comeback in the T20I side for the recently-concluded three-match series against New Zealand at home. One of India's most successful operators in T20Is, Chahal was surprisingly left out of the squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 as the likes of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakaravarthy made the cut over him.

However, the willy leg spinner is back in the squad and was seen in action during the third and final T20I against the Black Caps on Sunday (November 21). However, Chahal was not the star of the show for India on his return as Axar Patel grabbed the limelight with his bowling heroics.

Axar picked up a three-wicket haul to help India bundle out New Zealand on a paltry 111 runs in reply to India's total of 184 runs and power the hosts to a massive 73-run win. Chahal also bowled well and conceded only 26 runs in his 4 overs while picking up a solitary wicket.

After his return in the T20I squad, veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has backed Chahal to deliver consistently for India under Rohit's captaincy. Karthik also backed the spinner to make it to India's T20 World Cup 2022 squad and said Rohit trusts the leg spinner, who has 64 wickets in 50 T20Is for India.

"He's very good at bowling abroad as well so that is a very important attribute to keep in mind when India travels to play the World Cup in Australia. Karthik also recalled an instance from the Nidahas Trophy in 2018 when Chahal had come up to captain Rohit and asked if he wanted him to attack or defend against Upul Tharanga, who was going hard at the bowlers. Rohit asked him to get his wicket and Chahal dismissed the Lankan batter with a tossed up delivery.

"I remember one instance in the Nidhas Trophy when Upul Tharanga was going hard at the spinners and Chahal came and asked him, 'Do you think I should bowl defensively or should I try and attack?" He (Rohit) said, "Definitely I want his wicket, if you get hit for five sixes I don't care, try and get his wicket." That's exactly what he did. He tossed the ball on the stumps, he (Tharanga) went for a wild slog and got bowled," Karthik recalled.

Rohit asked him to get his wicket and Chahal dismissed the Lankan batter with a tossed up delivery. "I remember one instance in the Nidhas Trophy when Upul Tharanga was going hard at the spinners and Chahal came and asked him, 'Do you think I should bowl defensively or should I try and attack?" He (Rohit) said, "Definitely I want his wicket, if you get hit for five sixes I don't care, try and get his wicket." That's exactly what he did. He tossed the ball on the stumps, he (Tharanga) went for a wild slog and got bowled," Karthik recalled.

India locked horns with New Zealand in the third and final T20I on Sunday evening (November 21) with an aim to whitewash the Black Caps after entering the match with an unassailable 2-0 lead. The Rohit Sharma-led side wanted to experiment and add some new faces to the line-up with the series already in their grasp.

Following the coin toss, Rohit decided to bat first as India wanted to test themselves while defending a score. In recent times, India have done exceedingly well while chasing totals but haven't been comfortable while setting up a target, which resulted in their T20 World Cup failures as they lost both their opening games (to Pakistan and New Zealand, respectively) when asked to bat first.

However, Rohit kept on going all guns blazing and he brought up his half-century in the 11th over of the innings. As soon as he brought up the landmark, Rohit (56) was dismissed by Ish Sodhi, owing to a remarkable caught and bowled.

Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer then got together at the crease and the duo did not let the momentum drop for the hosts. The duo put on 36 runs for the fifth wicket, however, this stand was broken by Trent Boult as he dismissed Venkatesh (20).

In the very next over, Adam Milne got the better of Shreyas (25) and India was reduced to 140/6. In the final three overs, the Men in Blue managed to add 36 more runs, taking the score past the 180-run mark.

Deepak Chahar played a cameo of 21 runs off just 8 balls as India posted more than a competitive total on the board.
