Debutant Venkatesh Iyer hit his first ball in international cricket for four before Rishabh Pant got the winning runs.

Suryakumar meant business from ball one and the most memorable shot of his innings was the pick up stroke off Lockie Ferguson to get to his third T20 fifty.

Both Rohit and Suryakumar should have gone on to finish the game but that didn't happen.

From a straight forward 23 off the last 24 balls, India made it complicated by making the equation to 10 runs off the last over.

Three big overs followed with Chapman and Guptill putting their foot on the pedal.

Chapman collected a four and six off Axar Patel in another 15-run over to bring up his first fifty for New Zealand, having played earlier for Hong Kong.

Guptill too looked in ominous touch at the other end as he deposited a slower one from Siraj over long-off.

Ashwin was brought back into the attack in the 14th and he struck twice at a timely juncture for his team with New Zealand getting to 123 for three in 15 overs.

With Guptill in full flow, even 200 seemed on the card but the opener was caught in the deep in the 18th over.

India did well in the last five overs to concede 41 runs besides taking three wickets.

I guess time flies, doesn't it? I actually remember Rohit even before the Ireland series when we were playing a challenger in Madras."

"We all knew that Rohit was going to be special. We could just see that he was a very special talent. That I would so many years later be working with him that I never thought about or envisaged... but honestly, the way he has grown as a leader, as a person over these last 14 years now. What he's achieved both as an India player and as a leader for the Mumbai Indians has been phenomenal," he added.

"Having to carry the legacy of obviously Mumbai cricket and Indian cricket is not an easy one and he's done it with a lot of grace and class," Dravid added. &nbsp;

It was a very brief chat and I was actually kind of very nervous and I never used to talk so much even with my age group people so leave alone these guys at that point," Rohit said.

"So, I was just quietly doing my things and getting a move on with my game. But yeah, in Ireland the first time when he came and told me that you will be playing this game. I was over the moon that, obviously felt like a dream to be part of the dressing room. It's been a long way since then. I have cherished all the moments that I've spent playing for India and also for my franchise, Mumbai Indians. And we look forward to many more," Rohit added.&nbsp;

"The board wants to relieve Kohli of the captaincy burden in limited-overs cricket so that he can focus on his batting and return to his dominant form," NDTV quoted sources as saying.

As per the report, Kohli can be asked to step down as the ODI captain of the Indian team as soon as the South Africa series which gets underway in January next year. KL Rahul is likely to be appointed as Rohit's deputy in the fifty-over format.

Rohit was named the captain of India's T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand series at home after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. Finalists New Zealand will travel to India for three T20Is starting from November 17. Rohit will lead the team while Kohli has been rested from the T20Is.

Senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was snubbed from the T20 World Cup squad has made his comeback while the likes of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy have been dropped from the team.

Along with Kohli, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya have also been rested for the New Zealand T20Is. Some of the young guns who performed exceptionally well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 have been rewarded for their performances.

The likes of Hashal Patel and Venkatesh Iyer have earned their maiden national call-ups after a stellar IPL campaign this year. Harshwal was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2021 with 32 wickets in 15 matches for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Venkatesh took the season by a storm with his impressive all-round performances in his debut season as he scored 370 runs and picked up three wickets in ten matches for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Apart from Harshal and Venkatesh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan, who had amazing campaigns in IPL 2021 have also been included in the 15-man squad for the New Zealand T20I series at home. Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar, who were in the reserves for the T20 World Cup 2021 have also made their comebacks in the original squad.

Gaikwad is likely to be tested out as an opener while Iyer might take Kohli's no.3 spot in the batting line-up. Axar Patel has been roped in as a like-to-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja while R Ashwin has retained his place in the team. Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are the two wicket-keepers in the squad.

Kohli cited workload issues as he explained his decision to quit T20I captaincy after leading India for one last time in their final Super 12 game against Namibia in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday.

India had a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 as they failed to reach the semis after suffering back-to-back defeats in their first two games. India ended their campaign with three wins and two defeats in five matches in what was Kohli's last tournament as captain in T20Is. He will continue leading the Indian team in ODIs and Tests.

After Kohli's departure as captain, Gavaskar has named the ideal replacement for him as India's next T20I captain. The former India captain believes India should not look at a long-term captaincy change at present and appoint Rohit Sharma as the skipper in T20Is considering the T20 World Cup 2022 is less than a year away.

"Long term is in case the next World Cup is maybe 2 years away or 3 years away. Next World Cup is just 10-12 months away. You don't have to really look long term now," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

"Right now, you have to look for the best man who can take India to an ICC trophy. And that is Rohit Sharma with his record for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, he is an obvious choice. I think he should be given the captaincy and maybe after next year's World Cup in Australia, maybe have a look at another T20 captain. But right, now it's only Rohit Sharma," he added.

Ahead of the semi-finals round, from November 10-11, India's veteran wicketkeeper-batsman-turned-commentator Dinesh Karthik made heads turn by sharing his team of the tournament. In the list, DK didn't include some big names such as India's Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, David Warner, Mohammad Rizwan, Aiden Markram, David Wiese, Anrich Nortje, etc.&nbsp;

Karthik's team of the tournament had Pakistan's Babar Azam as captain. While he has led the team exceptionally well as the Men in Green remain the only unbeaten side heading into the semi-finals, some would be surprised that England's Eoin Morgan didn't feature as captain in the XI.
