<p>Kumble while speaking on Jio Cinema said, "There are plenty of them; it’s difficult to pick just one. I can certainly look back and say probably a Chris Gayle, someone who is larger than life. The way he came across as a player! What he brought to RCB and the way he sorts of changed the whole powerplay and the power he brought to batting."</p>

<p>Gayle started his IPL career with the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but his fortunates changed when he was picked by the RCB camp in 2011. He went on to win the Orange Cap -- awarded to a player with most runs in a season -- in the 2011 and 2012 editions and became a regular in their line-up. In 2018, the swashbuckling batter joined the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), now known as the Punjab Kings (PBKS). During his run for the Punjab franchise, Kumble served as the head coach.</p>

<p>The left-handed batter scored a total of 4,965 runs in his IPL career, featuring in as many as 142 matches at a strike rate of 148.96. He remains the eighth-highest run-getter&nbsp;to date and has most centuries (six) under his belt in the tournament as well.</p>

<p>Bangalore's Chinnaswamy stadium once again welcomed its favorite Royal Challengers after a three-year COVID-19 hiatus. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) back to home-and-away format for the upcoming season, the fans flocked to see their favorite superstars in a practise session.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former India and RCB skipper Virat Kohli also got involved with the crowd to the fullest as he asked them to cheer louder while he shot a video of Bangalore legends AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. RCB have made the announcement to induct both the players in team's Hall of Fame list as the first two inductees.</p>

<p>RCB's full squad took a lap of honour around the stadium after the practise session and Gayle showed his dance moves afterwards. Kohli, who shot the video, can be seen asking the crowd to cheer louder for the West Indian great. Have a look at the video here:</p>

While Gayle stayed with the RCB till 2017, ABD remained with them till retirement after the 2021 season. <p>ABD, on the other hand, played in 157 matches for the team, scoring 4,522 runs - the second highest for RCB, behind Virat Kohli's 6,624 runs.</p>

<p>Bangalore, who have failed to win a single IPL trophy in 15 seasons of IPL, will try their luck once again to catch the elusive title with their quest beginning on April 2 against Mumbai Indians.</p>

<p>Top T20 batter in the world, Chris Gayle, has showered praises on his former IPL teammate Virat Kohli saying he loves his passion for the game but has also claimed that he is better than his Indian counterpart in dancing. Ahead of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League that starts in less than a week, Gayle revealed batting alongside Virat was fantastic and that Kohli needs to get credit for his performances over the years.</p>

<p>"Batting with Virat was just fantastic. I like the passion he has for the game. I like his passion and his work ethic, it's fantastic. You have to give him credit for that, and he wants to show it with his performances," Gayle said as quoted in TOI.</p>

<p>Gayle joined Virat at RCB in 2011, and till the time both played together, they accounted for ten plus century-stand partnerships – an IPL record in itself.</p>

<p>Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Chris Gayle, who was with the franchise from 2011 to 2017, has said that the reason behind the eam not winning a title is that a lot of players felt left out.</p>

<p>Speaking to JioCinema, official digital broadcaster of the IPL 2023, Gayle said he felt that only three players were in the focus at the time when he was with RCB.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Sometimes, being one of the main players, being the main man of the franchise, I am always in my own zone, pretty much. What I understand when it comes from an RCB point of view is that a lot of players felt left out. A lot of players did not feel like they were a part of the franchise," said Gayle.</p>

<p>RCB, despite being considered as one of the top teams in the league, hasn't been able to win a single title in last 15 years. It, however, reached the final in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Virat Kohli, RCB and India's star player, who has been with the team since its inception in 2008, captained the team for most years but couldn't get the team over the line despite holding many individual records.</p>

<p>Chris Gayle, on the other hand, has played 140 matches in the IPL, scoring 4,965 runs at an average of 39.72 and astonishing strike rate of 148.96.</p>

<p>Gayle has also scored six hundreds in the league with the highest being 175 not out - a T20 record still - while playing for RCB against now-defunct franchise Pune Warriors India.</p>

<p>Chasing 189, Devine and Smriti Mandhana (37 off 31) made a good start as they stitched together an opening partnership of 125 runs with the former contributing a chunk of those. While Mandhana departed in the 10th over, it was Ellyse Perry who helped Devine take RCB home. There was no real contribution from the bowlers for Gujarat as they were left stranded and clueless in the must-win match.</p>

<p>Earlier, top knocks from opener Laura Wolvaardt and all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner helped Gujarat Giants reach a total of 188/4 in the 20 overs. Electing to bat first, Gujarat Giants did not have a very good start as they lost opener Sophia Dunkley for 16 off 10 balls after a Sophie Devine delivery crashed into her leg stump. GG was 27/1 in 2.4 overs. Following this, the pair of Laura Wolvaardt and Sabbhineni Meghana started to rebuild the innings.</p>

<p>Just like every other season, the upcoming IPL edition is also keenly awaited. It will be the 16th edition of the tournament, which kicked off in 2008. Several records have been broken in the tournament since it's inception. Many captains have led the existing and now-defunct teams whereas only a handful of them have tasted success by winning the IPL championship.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from only one top franchise, every other team -- including only those who have been a part of the tournament since 2008 or more than five seasons -- have had an overseas captain for a brief or significant period. However, CSK is the only team to not have had a foreign captain in their rich history.</p>

But that doesn’t stop me from being excited every year. That’s all I can do. That’s the effort I can put into every game and every tournament that I play. If we win, great. If we don’t, then I am not going to go to my grave thinking that if only I had won an IPL, I would be a happy man. It doesn’t happen like that. So always think about the opportunity that you have rather than how bad it is right now."</p>

<p>He added, "There is always a flip side to it, and it could always be worse than this. And the fact that we haven’t won the IPL, but I still feel that we have the best fans in the world. <p>As of now, it looks highly likely that MI and DC will end at the top two with UPW holding onto the third spot. However, anything can still happen if RCB and GG come to the party. <p>RCB face UPW in their next outing, on Wednesday evening (March 15) at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The last time both sides faced each other saw the UP franchise demolish RCB by ten wickets. Mandhana &amp; Co. batted first and only managed 138 all-out, which was chased down by UP with ten wickets and seven overs in hand.</p>

<p>RCB go into this match after a last-over loss&nbsp;versus the DC unit, on Monday (March 13), where the latter won by&nbsp;six wickets while chasing 151.</p>

<p>A confident DC unit won the toss and opted to bowl first at the&nbsp;Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. Mandhana fell early for RCB as her poor form continued. She has only managed scores of 35, 23, 18, 4, and 8 so far in the five-team competition. Ellyse Perry's 67 and Richa Ghosh's 16-ball 37 not out propelled the team to 150 for 4. However, it was just a par score.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, DC&nbsp;were&nbsp;made to work hard in their run-chase. Alice Capsey, Jemimah Rodrigues, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen (15-ball 29 not out) stood tall to take their side home. Jonassen returned as the Player-of-the-Match for her rapid knock and whereas her teammate Shikha Pandey (3 for 239) also played a vital role in the victory.</p>

<p>At the post-match presentation, Smriti said, "Really good effort by our bowlers to take it till the 20th over. Definitely a lot of improvements but a lot of things to work on still. The partnership got us into the game, they both batted brilliantly. They used their experience to get us to a defendable total. Not the best of the starts, including my batting. The first 14 overs really hurt us, even 10-15 runs more would have helped. Towards the fag-end of the tournament, the wickets are going to get slower. Even in the last game, spinners got the ball to turn and pace-off and slower balls were working."</p>

<p>After the game versus UPW, RCB will face two more games to play; against GG and MI respectively.</p>

Smriti Mandhana, bought for a whopping INR 3.4 crores at the WPL auction, has failed to guide&nbsp;her side to a win so far in the maiden edition of this tournament. Following RCB's fourth straight loss the other night in Mumbai, Smriti has found herself in hot waters but has backing from her teammate Ellyse Perry.</p>

<p>Perry, another star all-rounder in the team full of big names, has come out in support of Smriti saying the way she has led so far, it appears she is great at it,&nbsp;but she puts too much pressure on herself for doing well for the team – which certainly isn’t going her way.</p>

<p>Speaking after yet another humiliating loss in WPL – this time going down against UP Warriorz by ten wickets, Perry addressed the media and said it’s not easy for someone to manage a team full of new faces.</p>

<p>“Knowing Smriti and how proud and responsible she is for her own game, there’s probably no more pressure on her than what she is putting on herself. It’s a ginormous task to come into a brand-new competition and play with a group of players that she has never played with before and try and make that all gel in a matter of a couple of days since she joined the group,” Perry said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>From playing against her to playing under her, Perry knows a thing or two about Smriti and feels Smriti still has a long way to go in the tournament. She added saying&nbsp;it’s about time before Mandhana&nbsp;finds her Mojo and let herself loose. The recently-crowned T20 World Cup winner with Australia, Perry adds that looking at the bigger picture, she knows Smriti is going to make it big in WPL.</p>

<p>“I think she’s a great captain too. She just needs a chance to find her feet in the tournament and she will no doubt. But the bigger picture (is), it's just going to mean we are going to see an even better version of Smriti after this. There’s so much that she has learned from this competition already, both as a captain and as a batter, to make her even better in the future. She’s only a youngster right,” the Aussie all-rounder added.</p>

<p>Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star all-rounder Ellyse Perry gave an epic reply when asked to choose her opening partner between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Both Kohli and Dhoni have been superstars of Indian cricket. Perry, who is currently involved in the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 edition, gave a witty response to the question in a recent interaction.</p>

After two games, Bengaluru remain winless and will face Gujarat Giants (GGT) -- who are also without a victory after equal number of encounters --&nbsp;on Wednesday evening (March 09). The two teams will lock horns&nbsp;at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.</p>

<p>The decision comes on the back of BCCI's announcement to give free entry to women and girls in all WPL matches to promote women's cricket in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Coming to&nbsp;Monday's match, MI-W beat RCB-W by nine-wickets, picking up their second consecutive win and handing Smriti Mandhana-led RCB their second straight loss.</p>

<p>&nbsp;Earlier, Bangalore won the toss and elected to bat first. RCB were off to a flyer as Mandhana and Sophie Devine added 39 runs in 4.1 overs for the first wicket. The proceedings for RCB soon hit the break as the lost four wickets in eight balls to be left four down inside the powerplay.</p>

<p>Small cameos from Richa Ghosh, Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil and Megan Schutt though, helped RCB post a competitive total of 155. The Challengers, however, could not play their quota of overs as they folded in 18.4 overs with Hayley Matthews being pick of the bowlers.&nbsp;</p>
