Kohli added, "I am really honoured and fortunate to be here for so long, in a place where I absolutely love coming to every year and start the IPL journey all over again. So, it's always very exciting."&nbsp;RCB have not won the IPL title yet but the superstar cricketer's loyalty remains as it was.

Former India batter Sunil Gavaskar was mighty impressed with his ability to find gaps and praised him for that.

"SKY was toying with the bowlers. He gives you a feeling of gully cricket when he's batting like that. He's just gotten better with practice and hard work. His bottom hand is so powerful that he uses it to perfection. Against RCB, he started with hitting towards long-on and long-off and later agricultural shots all around the park," said Gavaskar on Star Sports' Cricket Live.

Nehal Wadhera was on the crease with Surya most of the time and the duo added 140 runs in just 64 balls to shut the doors on RCB. Wadhera remained not out on 52 off 34 and Gavaskar appreciated the young lad for his composure.

"When you are batting with SKY your confidence is boosted, but the best thing about Nehal Wadhera's innings was that he wasn't looking to play shots like SKY. The best thing about him is that his balance was superb," he said.

Speaking on his innings after the match, Surya said, "They came up with a plan here. They knew they had to bowl slow, make me hit towards the bigger boundary and not give me pace."

The batsman, however, credited his knock to the practice sessions and said that he knows the game and where his runs are. "Your practice has to be the same as to what you want to do in the matches. I do proper practice. We have open net sessions and I keep the fielders on and come out of my comfort zone ... I know my game, I know where my runs are and I don't do anything different," said Yadav.

With the win, Mumbai now sit pretty at number three with 12 points in 11 games while RCB are in seventh place with 10 points in 11 matches.

IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar terms Suryakumar Yadav's innings vs RCB as 'Gully Cricket'

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis scored yet another fifty in the Indian Premier League (IPL) - his fifth this season - but got out playing a strange shot to a catch caught &nbsp;in three attempts.

Mumbai's Cameron Green came on to bowl the 14th over of the RCB's innings and Faf tried to act cute as he premeditated to play a ramp shot and got in position quickly. While playing the shot though, Faf looked in two minds as he looked to play the ball over third man instead of fine leg but eventually played over fine leg only in a rather unbalanced way.

The substitute fielder standing there got the hands on the ball quickly but the ball popped out of his hands and then he tried again but the ball again bounced and hit the fielder's cap after which he finally caught it, ending Faf's fabulous innings of 65 off 41. Have a look at the video here:

IPL 2023: RCB's Faf du Plessis gets out playing STRANGE ramp shot against MI - WATCH

Virat Kohli's stature always has him in the limelight whether it's for his loss of form or scoring centuries for fun. While the star India and Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman has&nbsp;come back to form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL ) 2023 season, it is his strike rate which has seen experts raise eyebrows at him more often than not.

Virat, however, has been scoring runs at more pace than the last two IPL seasons, but such is his class that even 135, six more than his overall IPL strike rate of 129, isn't a good enough number for the experts.&nbsp;

Tom Moody, the former Australian cricketer, especially has been critical of Virat Kohli's style of playing. After Virat's last innings against Delhi Capitals in which the batsman scored 55 off 46 at 119, Moody didn't hold back.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo after Virat's innings, Moody said, "It's an interesting one. We will always have this debate because it is the Virat Kohli template. It's the way he bats. His career strike rate is around 130. His ability to continue to churn out runs is quite extraordinary. But did they get as many as they could have? If he took his foot a little off the brake and went with Lomror, and tried to target a boundary an over himself, we will never know."

Adding further, Moody commented, "But maybe he also felt that whilst the other end was flying along, his role was to feed that other end. But in my view, particularly with the impact player, the game has really moved on from that style of cricket. That's why we are seeing so many totals go to 200+. There is no such role. We all need to be going here at 150+ without a doubt because we have the comfort of depth."

The batsman has scored 419 runs in 10 matches this season, batting in every single one of them and remaining not out once. While Virat's average has been an effective 46.56, he has hit the runs at 135.16 and managed to hit 56 times with a high score of 82 not out. Kohli has scored all the runs as an opener for RCB.

During LSG's 127-run chase, Kohli and Lucknow pacer Naveen exchanged some words and were seen having an argument during the post-match handshake as well. Afterwards, Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir also clashed and were separated by players from both camps.

Kohli and LSG captain KL Rahul were seen having a chat after the match when Naveen crossed by and once again the duo had an animated discussion. It was also his 100th wicket in the Indian Premier League.

RCB then promoted Shahbaz Nadeem at number three in a strange move but Boult took him out too. Maxwell and du Plessis then joined forces and added 127 for the third wicket. Du Plessis was the third wicket to fall after scoring 62 off 39 balls. Maxwell departed soon on a team score of 156, having scored 77 off 44 balls. RCB's innings lost the steam after that as they could score only 189/9 in their 20 overs.

For Royals, Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma took two wickets apiece while spinners Ravi Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal took one each. RR effected three run outs in the RCB's innings.

Regular skipper Du Plessis was facing a rib issue and was not a match fit but was still called up to the initial squad to play. RCB opted to make use of the ‘Impact Player’ rule which saw Du Plessis being employed as a substitute player and was consequently subbed by Vijaykumar Vyshak. With the former South Africa skipper not available for the entire match Virat took over the charge as full-time skipper for the PBKS clash.

The decision proved to be noteworthy as Du Plessis scored 84 runs off 54 deliveries and missed out on a hundred. His exploits saw RCB put 174/4 on the board while Virat Kohli also scored 59 runs before he returned to the pavilion.

On his captaincy return, Virat also reached two milestones as he scored his 50th fifty for RCB in the IPL. On the horizon, he also joined the 600 fours club in the IPL and looked in great touch before getting out.

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) occupy the seventh spot in IPL 2023 points table after their narrow loss over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at home, on Monday evening (April 17). Bowling first, RCB was in for a leather hunt as they conceded 226/6 and while they were on course to chase down the target, they lost by eight runs after being restricted to 218 for 8.

RCB are expected to make a strong comeback in the season and will rely on their captain Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis has hit the ground running in IPL 2023 and is the current Orange Cap holder (259 runs) after his splendid 33-ball 62 versus CSK. Ever since the former South African captain joined the RCB camp, he has been one of their top performers and is expected to revamp his side's campaign in this year's IPL season.

In IPL 2022, Du Plessis represented the RCB franchise for the first time -- after they bought him for INR 70 million (INR 7 crore) -- and he didn't disappoint; leading the side to the playoffs and also ending as RCB's highest run-scorer. Recently, RCB's Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson explained why the veteran cricketer was chosen as the RCB captain ahead of IPL 2022.

Speaking on the RCB podcast, Hesson said, "I guess it’s really difficult coming into a group when the previous captain (Virat Kohli)&nbsp;is still there. So we needed somebody that could come in, would have respect within the group instantly because if he comes in a lot of people can be intimidated by the ex-captain being near and potentially aren’t confident enough to make your own decisions."

“I was quite disappointed that I got out to a full toss. I’ve been playing really well. I wanted to make sure that after fifty, I was targeting 30-35 runs off the next 10 balls. That’s how I play. That would’ve helped us get past 200," said Kohli at the post-match presentation.

The batsman, however, judged the pitch correctly as he informed his teammates in the dugout, saying it slowed down considerably.

“One thing I mentioned to the guys in the change room was that 175 was enough on this pitch. It slowed down considerably when the spinners came on. Even the balls to hit off the back foot off Kuldeep were holding up, unlike the other games we played. We did well to get to that score and had the belief it was enough,” Kohli said at the presentation.

“When I’ve played my best cricket, those are the balls I’ve put away consistently (length balls on the up). That helps me to put pressure on the bowlers. When I put away their best balls, they’re going to try to do something else. I back myself to hit good balls and the best bowlers in the opposition," he added.

This was RCB's first win post two consecutive losses after winning their season opener against Mumbai Indians. Kohli also admitted that they let it slip last couple of matches but happy to get two points.

Kohli, in a recent interview published by Jio Cinema, official digital broadcaster of IPL, talked about his strike rate in the conversation with Robin Uthappa.&nbsp;

"Yeah for sure (important anchor role). I completely agree with that, There are many people who because they have not been in that situation themselves, they look at the game differently," Kohli said to Uthappa.

Kohli also explained on why the scoring rate goes down a bit after the powerplay and said, "Suddenly when the powerplay is done, they will be like 'oh, they have started rotating the strike'. When you haven't lost a wicket in the powerplay, usually the best player comes on to bowl, you are trying to figure out what to do against him in the first two overs, so that you can get big ones in the last two overs of that guy and then rest of the innings becomes much easier."

Questioning Kohli's batting, Doull had said, "Kohli started off like a train. He was going hammer and tongs as he was playing a lot of shots. From 42 to 50, he took 10 balls. Concerned about a milestone. I don't think there's room for that in this game anymore. Just got to keep going, especially with wickets in hand at that stage. You got to keep going."

In the match, RCB went on to score 212 runs in 20 overs but LSG, thanks to an unbelievable innings played by Nicholas Pooran, who scored 64 off just 19 balls, won the match in a dramatic manner on the last ball.

Former Pakistan player and captain Salman Butt blasted commentator Simon Doull for criticising Virat Kohli during the latter's knock for RCB against Lucknow Super Giants.

"Young players often play like this as getting to milestone might secure their place in the team. Why would Kohli do that? This is RCB we are talking about. He is not fighting for his place in the Indian team. He is a world class player. Get a life. Get out of this narrow-minded thinking. All the big players like Babar, Virat and Williamson are not power-hitters. They put value on their wicket. Maybe he's trying to get attention," Salman Butt said on his YouTube channel.

Notably, Kohli had scored 61 off 44 balls against LSG. Doull, however, wasn't impressed with Kohli slowing down after scoring 42 runs.
