What started as merely an actor dropping out of a major project has now become a full-blown industry war. After the success of Dhurandhar 2, Ranveer Singh opted to step away from Don 3, directed by Farhan Akhtar, leading to a professional tiff. The latest update is that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has issued a non-cooperation directive against him over the ongoing Don 3 dispute.

As the dispute takes a major turn, here's the full timeline

Don 3 announcement

Don 3 is one of the most loved franchises in the Indian film industry. From Amitabh Bachchan in the 1978 film to Shah Rukh Khan in Don 2, it was Ranveer Singh who was set to play the role next. In August 2023, Farhan Akhtar announced Singh as the new Don with the tagline “A new era begins.” A teaser was released showing the director sitting in a chair.

Announced in 2023, the movie has continually faced delays, with rumours of the project being shelved. However, in November 2025, Akhtar himself clarified in an interview that the movie was set to go on floors in 2026.

Don 3 delay

Since its announcement by Farhan Akhtar, Don 3 has encountered repeated delays. Despite generating significant buzz after its announcement, the film has undergone script revisions, production delays, and a change in its lead actress.

In early 2024, FWICE reportedly intervened over the uncertainty faced by crew members involved in the project. This led the film body to step in regarding labour issues and the film's production. However, several sources asserted that everything was being taken care of and Don 3 was still in development.

Months later, Farhan himself addressed the rumours and said, “We start filming next year. Producers of Don 3 are seeking compensation of around Rs 45 crore from Ranveer Singh after his alleged sudden exit from the film. Also Read: Ranveer Singh responds to FWICE ban: 'Professional discussions best handled with dignity' FWICE officials stated that multiple notices were sent to Ranveer Singh asking him to appear before the body and explain his side. However, the federation alleges that the actor failed to attend the meetings, following which the non-cooperation directive was announced. FWICE President BN Tiwari reportedly said that affiliated workers would refrain from working with the actor until discussions take place and the dispute is settled. The federation also argued that abrupt exits from large-budget productions directly affect daily wage workers, technicians and junior artists dependent on film shoots for their livelihood. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh has now responded to the controversy through his spokesperson. His team stated that the actor has immense respect for the film industry and prefers handling professional disagreements privately and respectfully. Reports also suggest that Ranveer’s legal team questioned FWICE’s authority in the matter.

Although reports described it as a “ban”, FWICE has only asked its affiliated members and technicians not to work with Ranveer Singh until the issue is resolved.

Dhurandhar is the kind of film that comes around only once every few decades. Starring Ranveer Singh as Hamza Ali Mazari, the two-part movie has cemented its place in Indian cinema history. The success it has achieved feels like something out of a dream, something director Aditya Dhar and the entire team once only hoped for from a distance, but it has now become a reality. As Dhurandhar continues to dominate conversations, actor Arjun Rampal has opened up about how the team is handling its overwhelming success. The two-part film boasts a powerhouse cast. Alongside Singh in the lead, it features Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, among others. Arjun Rampal reveals how the Dhurandhar team is handling its success. In December 2024, Aditya Dhar unveiled the world of Dhurandhar. More than six months later, with the second part also released, the buzz around the film refuses to die down. Speaking to NDTV about how the cast is processing the success, Rampal said he’s still pinching himself. Arjun said while talking about the success of the movie. "I think for the whole team it has been phenomenal. Way, way, way beyond anybody's wildest dreams or imagination. It just throws you into a sense of gratitude," he added. Both parts of the movie have done a business of reportedly more than Rs 2,500 crore, and despite all the celebrations the team has done, everyone is in disbelief.
