Rahul Dravid has put an end to speculations regarding replacing Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the senior national side post-T20 World Cup as he reapplied for the position of Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy.&nbsp;

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) had to invite applications after Dravid's tenure in NCA came to an end because there is no provision for extension for the post as per the new constitution.&nbsp;

“Yes, Rahul has reapplied for the post of Head of Cricket. You don’t need to be a genius to guess that he is going to continue after the tremendous work he has put in to change the face of NCA, which is now truly a centre of excellence,” a senior BCCI source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“In fact, as of now, save Rahul, there are no other prominent names of stature who have applied for the post.”

“BCCI brass has decided to extend the deadline from August 15 by a few more days. When Rahul is in fray, everyone knows that there is little meaning in applying for the post. It’s more of a formality but yeah to be fair, a few more days are there if anyone feels that he would like to throw his hat in the ring,” the source added.

The source further added that Varun Chakravarthy and Kamlesh Nagarkoti, along with Shubman Gill are back in the NCA for a rehab after sustaining injuries.&nbsp;

“Yes, Chakravarthy and Nagarkoti are here at the NCA doing their rehab cum fitness routines. I guess once NCA gives them the fit certificate, they will be flying with the rest of the KKR team to the UAE. Gill is still training here,” the source said.

Dravid said, "Early on in our careers, we've all had those struggles and we've all had to fight our way through that. None of us have been perfect when we started, whether it's my generation or any generation for that matter. It needs experience."

"To be honest, some of them were under-prepared. But I don't think the talent is missing, either in spin bowling or in the batting. We just need a little bit more experience in being able to figure out a few more different kinds of shots when we're challenged with these kind of pitches. We just need to figure out a couple of more options. It was tough batting for them (Sri Lanka) as well," he added.&nbsp;

"I just think the balance of our team in the last couple of games meant we had a couple of batsmen short, which was always challenging. But the great positive for me was the way the guys have fought," Dravid said.

"He is going as a coach of this Indian team to Sri Lanka. I'm sure those youngsters will benefit a lot. I personally feel that he shouldn't push to become the coach of the national team. I feel that he needs to work with these India u-19 players and India A players at the NCA. I think the international players who play in the Indian team are a finished product," Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.

Rahul Dravid will coach the Sri Lankan contingent of the Indian team that will play under captain Shikhar Dhawan in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Whereas, Ravi Shastri is managing Virat and Co. in England who are set to face Root and co for the five-match series.&nbsp;

"But Rahul Dravid's mentorship and guidance are more needed at the u-19 and India A level. His guidance is crucial for them to achieve the next level. So I think he needs to stay at the NCA for a longer period of time for our bench strength so that it keeps growing stronger," Jaffer added.

"The amount of good players that are coming, the credit definitely goes to the BCCI, the way they have developed the infrastructure and pathway. India now has a strong supply line. Even more credit goes to Rahul Dravid, the way he is working as head coach at the NCA and the way he guiding u-19 players, India A and fringe players. There can't be a better role model or better mentor than Rahul Dravid," Jaffer said.

I had seen during my playing days, the captain respected the seniors, who gave it back by supporting their leader.

“Dravid obviously has organizational skills. Add to it, his technical expertise. Dravid has proved himself in the toughest conditions. So, he knows what to teach the youngsters since he has gained that experience,” he added.
