The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to add two new teams to the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 2022 season. The legal tenders for the auction of the two new teams are already on the table and the bidding war is expected to take place soon. Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Ness Wadia recently gave some insights on the addition of the two new sides in the cash-rich league.

Wadia claimed the new teams are expected to be sold at around 50 to 75% more of the current base price set by the BCCI. The Indian cricket board has set the base price of the new IPL teams at Rs 2000 crore (INR 20 billion) each. However, Wadia expects the price to go up to INR 30,000 to 35,000 crore (INR 30-35 billion).

"The value of each of the new teams should be 50 to 75% more than the base price of Rs 2000 cr. I think each team would go for a minimum of 3,000 to 3,500 cr," Wadia was quoted as saying in an interview with Times of India.

With the addition of the two new sides in IPL, the number of matches will increase significantly from the next season. The BCCI is also expected to receive a huge influx of cash through the auction of the new teams as well as the media rights which are set to be revised soon.

"I'm excited about two new teams coming in because it will add a new dimension to the league. It will bring in a much wider base of viewership. And it will strengthen the IPL, which is already the greatest cricket league in the world and one of the greatest leagues in world sport. I believe that it will add a lot of opportunity to not only several other cricketers, but will bring in a lot of income to coaching staff and owners. It'll be economically beneficial to all those who participate in the IPL. It will provide employment. More importantly, it will enhance the number of games in the IPL, so the fans will get a lot more cricket to watch," Wadia said.

BCCI will also stage the mega auction for all ten teams after getting the new sides on board ahead of the 2022 season. The mega auction will provide the perfect platform for all ten sides to build/rebuild their squads after assessing their strengths and weaknesses. Wadia expects the mega auction to take place in December this year.

"It (the mega player auction) should be fair and equitable, especially to the two new teams coming in. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens from that perspective," said the Punjab Kings co-owner.

The umpiring standards have once again come under the scanner in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after the third umpire made a huge blunder in the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal was handed a lifeline after a controversial decision by the third umpire at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Sunday.

The incident happened in the eighth over of RCB's innings after captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. Padikkal, who was struggling against spinner Ravi Bishnoi, tried to reverse sweep him but ended up edging the ball with his gloves in the process.

KL Rahul appealed straight away after hearing a slight noise but the on-field umpire was not interested which prompted the PBKS captain to ask for a review. The replays showed there was a spike on the ultra edge when the ball passed through the gloves of Padikkal. However, much to everyone's surprise, the third umpire - K Srinivasan adjudged the RCB batsman not out.

The third umpire was heard saying there was no bat involved despite there being a clear spike in the ultra edge which left fans, experts and former cricketers in shock as they slammed him on Twitter. PBKS skipper Rahul was also seen expressing his displeasure to the on-field umpires after the horrendous decision by the third umpire.

Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir slammed the third umpire after a crucial catch by Rahul Tripathi was not given in KKR's favour during their IPL 2021 match against Punjab Kings on Friday (October 1).&nbsp;

In match 45, KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings registered a five-wicket win over Eoin Morgan's KKR, but it is believed that the catch, which was given 'not out' by the third umpire, could have altered the final result of the clash.&nbsp;

During the match, Punjab required 11 off 10 balls for victory when KL Rahul played Shivam Mavi's delivery towards the mid-wicket boundary, where KKR fielder dived forward to take a "classy" catch.&nbsp;

Third umpire Anil Dandekar, after consulting several camera angles and watching the clip in slow motion, declared the batter not out.&nbsp;

Hardik smashed two fours and a six in the penultimate over bowled by Mohammed Shami as his 40 not out off 30 balls saw MI snap a three-match losing streak successfully chasing down a target of 136 in 19 overs.

Saurabh Tiwary (45 off 37) and Kieron Pollard (15 not out) also played their part as M survived some anxious moments before ending on a winning note.

Pollard who took two wickets in the Punjab innings hit a six and four off young left-armer Arshdeep Singh taking 13 off the 18th over which helped Hardik go for the jugular against Shami. It only helped that his final shot which ended as a maximum was a regulation catch that Deepak Hooda dropped at the fence.

After this victory, MI reached the fifth spot with 10 points from 11 matches, while Punjab slipped to sixth spot.
