The drama around the Pakistan cricket team continues to unfold, with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) director of high performance, Aaqib Javed, now calling for an inquiry into batter Imam-ul-Haq. After losing the first two of three Tests, Pakistan sent back seven players from the squad and sacked red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed as well as bowling coach Umar Gul. The move came after Pakistan's 194-run loss in the second Test, which followed an innings defeat in the first Test. After the reshuffle, PCB selection committee member Misbah-ul-Haq also resigned from his post amid the ongoing meltdown over Pakistan's performance. PCB director of high performance Aaqib Javed lashes out at Imam In an interview with Pakistan-based broadcaster Geo, Aaqib called out Imam specifically for not batting in either inning of the second Test. Imam pulled out of batting due to a calf injury ahead of the second day's play. The PCB stated that the batter had suffered a calf tear and that his participation would be subject to a medical opinion. Imam, however, warmed up with the team on Day 4 and took some throwdowns, leading former England great Stuart Broad to call his actions "all for show" while talking on air. Pakistan's latest thrashing by India in T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday (Feb 15) at Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka isn't going down too well with either fans or Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. While the fans have brutally trolled them for an unspirited performance, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has also conveyed his displeasure to the team. Pakistan lost the match by 61 runs after being bowled out for 114 in a chase of 176. The 2009 champions now face Namibia in their last Group A fixture for a place in Super 8. If Pakistan lose against Namibia on Wednesday (Feb 18), they will have to depend on net run rate while vying with the USA for a place in the next round.
Naqvi leaves red-faced with Pak loss inevitable vs India
During the match, Naqvi was in the stadium and was visibly upset about how things were unfolding. Pakistan were unravelling like a pack of cards and the chief couldn't watch it at all. Naqvi eventually left the stadium before the Pak lost. "The Chairman left the match early at the Premadasa Stadium as it became obvious Pakistan were going to face another defeat to India," a source said as reported by the news agency PTI. With two wins in three matches, win against Namibia will give Pakistan two points required to advance to the next stage. Meanwhile, a loss against Naimbia will keep Pakistan at four points in maximum four matches - same as the USA. The two teams then will fight it out over net run rate and the team with better NRR will proceed to next stage. Currently, USA's NRR is 0.788 and Pakistan are at -0.403 which means a loss will most definitely see Pakistan out of the tournament.

The PCB, meanwhile, has also indicated no interest in responding officially to the ICC's statement, citing the decision to not play India match is not taken by them but the national government. The PCB's inability to overcome government's decision does put the ICC in a tricky position as far as the sanctions are concerned. Mani argued that the decision is taken by the Pakistan government and not the cricket board itself, which leaves ICC with the little room to sanction PCB. India were indeed outplayed by Pakistan in the U-19 Asia Cup final but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has still decided to complain to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has 'apologised' to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after being hit with a legal notice for breaching a clause in their franchise agreement. The Pakistan board demanded a public apology from Tareen, who has uploaded a video of the same which satisfies the board's demand. Tareen, however, used a very sarcastic tone in the video which could rather escalate the matters. Tareen had been vocally critical of the board in the past and now the matter seems to have gone out of hands with legal language involved.
What did Tareen say in his apology video to PCB?
"Only a big man apologises. I apologise for wanting to make the PSL better. I apologise for raising my voice when I saw problems. It is my fault, not yours, that I was dissatisfied with your mediocre mindset. I apologise for being unhappy that you give yourselves so much credit for doing so little," Tareen said as reported by ESPNCricinfo. PCB has also claimed support of other franchises for action against Tareen "for deliberately attempting to sabotage the marketing campaign and value of the PSL brand."

It is clear that the Sultans owner is clearly not happy how things are turning out between him and the board. Also Read - WWC 25: Who will India face in the semi-final after defeating New Zealand? What is the issue between PCB and Tareen? According to the notice by the PCB to Tareen, the Sultans owner has breached the franchise agreement by making "false, malicious, baseless, and defamatory allegations" against the board, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. The incident which led to this was Tareen's criticism of PSL 10 trophy unveiling, handing of PSL draft and lip-syncing rather then live singing in opening ceremony. What steps can PCB take against Tareen? The PSL franchises get revaluation done at the end of every year and the PCB can stop Tareen from rebidding for the the franchise he became owner of in 2018. PCB has also claimed support of other franchises for action against Tareen "for deliberately attempting to sabotage the marketing campaign and value of the PSL brand."

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Mohammad Rizwan as the ODI captain unceremoniously after less than two years on the job. Rizwan, who now has been replaced by Shaheen Shah Afridi, was appointed the ODI captain by replacing Babar Azam. The move had come after Babar was stripped of captaincy following Pakistan's failure to make it to the ODI WC's semi-finals. Afridi, who is now the new captain, was named T20I captain back then but was removed after one series. The reason for Rizwan's removal, as per a former Pakistan cricketer, is not performance related but a religious one.
Rashid Latif cites religious practice brought in by Rizwan as reason for loss of captaincy
Rizwan had been very vocal in his support of Palestine in the war Hamas-Israel war during his stint as the captain. He even dedicated their one of the wins in ODI WC against Sri Lanka to 'brother and sisters in Gaza.' According to Latif, "This mindset has come that a non-Islamic captain should come in an Islamic country."Also Read - Welcome back Pant! As a captain, Rizwan scored 625 runs in 20 matches at an average of 41.66 with one hundred, three fifties and a best of 122 not out. His stint brought some sort of stability in the ODI set up amid PCB's constant chopping and changing of the captains. Currently, Pakistan have three different skippers in all three formats: Shan Masood in Tests, Shaheen Afridi in ODIs, and Salman Agha in T20Is.

The drama on Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi walking off with the Asia Cup trophy and denying the silverware to India is not going to end very soon. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already said that the matter will be raised to the ICC in the upcoming meeting.
