Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran hit centuries to propel the West Indies to a convincing 101-run win over Nepal at the World Cup Qualifier in Harare on Thursday.

Hope scored 132 while Pooran made a brisk 115 as the pair put on 216 for the fourth wicket to help the two-time champions post 339-7 after a bad start to the innings.

Kyle Mayers fell for just one and Johnson Charles was out for nought&nbsp;as the West Indies slumped to 9-2. Opener Brandon King made 32 before he was bowled by leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

"We were put on the back foot there," said Hope.

"The key was absorbing as much pressure as possible and then find a way to transfer that pressure in the back end.&nbsp;

"Pooran made it a lot easier for me. The aim was to take it as deep as possible give us the best chance towards the end."

Hope and Pooran joined forces in the 16th over and took the game away from Nepal, who were left to rue a dropped catch off Pooran early in his innings.

Wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh put down a Pooran edge off left-arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi when the batsman was on just three.

With Hope ticking along at a more sedate pace, Pooran took on the role of aggressor before both players reached their hundreds in the 40th over.

Hope completed his 15th ODI ton off 107 balls before Pooran carved Gulsan Jha to the boundary a few deliveries later to bring up his second one-day century off 81 balls -- four years after his first.

Dipendra Singh Airee eventually removed Pooran for 115 with a terrific catch off his own bowling but Rovman Powell kept the runs flowing with a quick-fire 29 alongside Jason Holder's 16 not out.

Hope holed out to long-off in the final over for 132 and Keemo Paul was bowled off the last ball as Rajbanshi finished with 3-52.

<h2>Nepal pursuit rocked</h2>

Nepal's chase began poorly with Alzarri Joseph uprooting Kushal Bhurtel's off stump in the second over. Bhim Sharki soon followed when he was caught behind off Holder trying a scoop shot.

Several Nepali batsmen made decent starts but only Aarif Sheikh passed fifty, reaching 63 before falling to a stunning Pooran catch in the deep as his team was bowled out for 238.

Holder took 3-34 for the West Indies with Joseph, Paul and Akeal Hosein all picking up two wickets.

The West Indies have won their first two matches and moved above tournament hosts Zimbabwe on net run rate at the top of Group A. The two nations meet in their next match on Saturday.

In Thursday's other game, the Netherlands bounced back from an opening loss to Zimbabwe by condemning the United States to a third straight defeat.

Shayan Jahangir top-scored with 71 as the USA scrapped their way to 211-8, but Dutch captain Scott Edwards led his team to a five-wicket victory with an unbeaten 67 after Teja Nidamanuru steadied the innings with his 58.

The USA are eliminated from contention while the Netherlands and Nepal face off Saturday in a contest that will likely determine which team advances to the Super Six stage.

The qualifiers continue on Friday with surprise Group B leaders Oman hunting a third successive win against Sri Lanka in Bulawayo, while Scotland play the United Arab Emirates.

ODI World Cup Qualifiers: Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran fire West Indies to 101-run win over Nepal

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have reportedly rejected the request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to alter the venues for the high-profile clashes in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The PCB had asked to alter the venues for the World Cup clashes at the start of the week, but it has now been reported that ICC has turned down the request of the PCB and will have to stick to the original schedule which is yet to be made public.

<h2>BCCI, ICC turn down PCB’s request</h2>

According to a report from Cricbuzz, the ICC and the BCCI, as hosts of the World Cup in October-November, held a meeting on Tuesday, June 20, and have officially informed the PCB about their joint decision. Pakistan had requested to switch venues for their clash against Afghanistan and Australia. Chennai had been offered for Pakistan’s clash against Afghanistan while Bengaluru was to host the clash against Australia.

The ICC and BCCI have reportedly stated that there is no reason to alter the venues for the World Cup on current grounds. A venue can only be changed if there are security concerns or the ground is not fit to host international matches. While BCCI ICC reserves the right to change the venue at the request of the BCCI as they are the hosts, they did not find suitable reasons to make changes to the venue.

<h2>Pakistan not entertained for India clash</h2>

Earlier, Pakistan had requested to change the venue for the India game which is to be held in Ahmedabad. However, the request was turned down as well, as there were no sufficient grounds to do so. Najam Sethi wanted the India vs Pakistan clash to take place away from the Narendra Modi Stadium but the ICC and the BCCI turned down the proposal.

As things stand, India and Pakistan are set to meet on October 15 with World Cup starting after the conclusion of the Asia Cup in September. The reported dates for the start of the World Cup are October 5 and the final will take place on November 19. The schedule is yet to be made public and is expected to come out in early July.

ODI World Cup 2023: ICC, BCCI reject PCB's request to change venues for high-profile clashes - Report

Sikandar Raza delivered an all-rounder's masterclass to help Zimbabwe to a convincing six-wicket win over the Netherlands in their Cricket World Cup Group A qualifier on Tuesday. After first bagging four Dutch wickets, Raza then hit an entertaining unbeaten 102 off just 54 balls -- the fastest ever hundred in one-day internationals by a Zimbabwe player. The Netherlands had posted 315 for six wickets thanks to 88 from Vikramjit Singh, 83 from skipper Scott Edwards and 59 from Max O'Dowd.

Saqib Zulfiqar chipped in with a run-a-ball 34 not out to boost the total off their allotted 50 overs at the Harare Sports Club.

Raza proved to be the pick of the bowlers, picking up four wickets for 55 runs off his 10 overs.

Zimbabwe's run chase never seemed in doubt as Sean Williams hit a 58-ball 91 after openers Craig Ervine and Joylord Gumbie had contributed 50 and 40 runs respectively.

It was left to Raza to strike the winning runs, however, hoisting Logan van Beek over mid-off and into the stands for his eighth six in a spectacular display of power batting that had earlier seen him strike three consecutive sixes off Shariz Ahmad.

"I just wanted to go out there," said the 37-year-old Pakistan-born all-rounder, who sealed victory with 55 balls remaining.

"The&nbsp;platform was already set, I just wanted to stay humble and respect every ball but it was there, I went for it.

"As long as we win the game, we are happy and we are happy for each other's performance."

Group A's other match saw Nepal, who lost their opener to Zimbabwe, beat the United States by six wickets.

Karachi-born wicketkeeper Shayan Jahangir&nbsp;hit an unbeaten 100 to help the US team reach 207 all out off 49 overs after recovering from being 18 for four wickets.

Sushant Modani&nbsp;chipped in with 42 and Gajanand Singh&nbsp;26, but the next best score was 12 and seven batsmen failed to make double digits as Karan Khatri Chhetri and Gulsan Jha shared seven wickets between them.

Bhim Sharki hit an unbeaten 77 while Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee&nbsp;pitched in with 39 runs apiece as Nepal sealed the victory with ease, ending on 211/4 with 42 balls remaining.

It was a second defeat for the Americans after they went down to the West Indies in their opening game.

The action continues Wednesday, with Ireland facing Scotland and Oman taking on the United Arab Emirates in Group B matches at Bulawayo.

Only two of the 10 teams taking part in the three-week qualifier will make the World Cup to be played in India in October and November.

ODI World Cup Qualifier: Sikandar Raza masterclass helps Zimbabwe smash Netherlands in Harare

India locked horns with Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final and lost by 209 runs at The Oval, London earlier this month. With another failure in an ICC event, India's trophyless run continues in mega tournaments since 2013. Ever since Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, he was expected to take the national side to some big wins in ICC events. But India have failed twice under his leadership. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, India were hammered by eventual winners England by ten wickets and now lost to Australia in the WTC finale.

India's ICC title drought continues since 2013 when they won the ICC Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. Thus, a lot of questions are now being raised about Rohit's captaincy. He has a herculean task ahead as Hitman not only needs to win the next ICC tournament, i.e. the 2023 ODI World Cup at home later this year&nbsp;but find an able successor for a smooth transition. While many are calling for his removal as captain, especially in whites, former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has backed him.

<h2>'I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach'</h2>

Speaking to&nbsp;RevSportz&nbsp;after India's&nbsp;WTC final loss,&nbsp;Clarke stated, "I would be keeping the faith with Rohit. I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach, he looks to be as positive as he can be. He has had a lot of success as a leader. Look at his IPL record for Mumbai (Indians). Just because India didn’t win the Test World Championship doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right guy to lead India. The fact that India qualified again, they are the only team to make consecutive finals, says a lot about how they have played their Test cricket over the past four years. It is also a very important time for stability with the One-Day World Cup right around the corner."

Clarke added, "He has done well as a batter as well. Think of his hundred in the last series. Losing a one-off final doesn't make him a bad captain and nor does it make India a bad team. To make consecutive finals isn't easy. What it means is that India was the only team to play consistently well over a period of four years. To do so in Test cricket is commendable and I would urge you to look at that as well before making any kind of judgment call."

Team India have a lot on their plate going forward. They need to start the 2023-25 WTC cycle on a positive note, start looking at the future, groom young leaders and aim to end their ICC title drought later this year with the ODI WC to be held at home. Will Rohit deliver as captain? Only time will tell...

'Just because they didn’t win WTC final...': Former Aussie skipper backs Rohit Sharma to remain India captain

Day Two of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers saw Sri Lanka thump UAE, whereas Oman completed a record run-chase to stun Ireland on Monday (June 19). After posting a mammoth 355 for 6, Dasun Shanaka &amp; Co. rode on Wanindu Hasaranga's 6 for 24 to dismiss UAE for 180 in 39 overs. Oman, on the other hand, achieved their first-ever ODI win over the Irish line-up and saw them complete their highest successful run-chase in the shorter format.

<h2>Hasaranga's 6/24 help SL thrash UAE</h2>

Taking on the hapless UAE at the&nbsp;Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, everything clicked for the Dasun Shanaka-led Islanders after being asked to bat first. The one-time ODI champions rode on&nbsp;Pathum Nissanka's 57, Dimuth Karunaratne's 53, Kusal Mendis' 78, Sadeera Samarawickrama's 73 and Charith Asalanka's 48* (23) along with Hasaranga's 12-ball 23* to post a healthy 355 for 6 in 50 overs. Ali Naseer (2 for 44) and Aayan Khan (1 for 52) were the top performers for UAE but their side was in for a huge run-chase.

In reply, UAE batters struggled to compete as Hasaranga trapped them with his spin to return with 6 for 24. He rocked their batting order with regular strikes, especially dismissing their middle order in a flash, as only captain&nbsp;Muhammad Waseem and keeper-batter Vriitya Aravind were UAE's top run-getters with 39 apiece.

<h2>Oman complete a record run-chase</h2>

Talking about Oman-Ireland's face-off at the&nbsp;Bulawayo Athletic Club, the Andy Balbirnie-led side were put into bat. Losing wickets at regular intervals, Ireland were 107 for 4 but&nbsp;Harry Tector (52) and George Dockrell's 93 propelled their side to a challenging 281 for 7. In reply, Oman batters stood tall as they took charge of proceedings with vital stands to take the game deep.

Kashyap Prajapati's 72, Aqib Ilyas's 52, captain Zeeshan Maqsood's 59 and Mohammad Nadeem's 46 led to Oman's stunning five-wicket win.&nbsp;

Kashyap Prajapati's 72, Aqib Ilyas's 52, captain Zeeshan Maqsood's 59 and Mohammad Nadeem's 46 led to Oman's stunning five-wicket win.

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since India's home T20Is versus Australia in September 2022. Since then, a recurring back injury has kept him out of action and he was not part of India's T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, home Test series versus Pat Cummins &amp; Co. early this year, IPL 2023 and the recently-held WTC final.

Indian cricket fans are desperately waiting for Bumrah's return to action as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. have a litmus test waiting ahead with the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup to take place in the latter half of 2023. As per reports, the veteran pacer is eyeing an international return during India's three-match T20I series versus hosts Ireland prior to Asia Cup and ODI WC on home soil.

<h2>'It will be a big boost to Indian cricket team'</h2>

“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take the field,” a senior BCCI official told News18 in a recent interaction.

“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,”&nbsp;the official further added.

Bumrah -- who has 128, 121 and 70 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively -- has been a crucial part of Team India since his international debut in early 2016. Of late, injuries have dented his progress but he will be eager to return to action after attaining full fitness and help India end their ten-year-long ICC title drought with an ODI WC triumph later in 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah to return during Ireland T20Is before Asia Cup and ODI World Cup: Report

Pakistan Cricket team’s participation in the ODI World Cup could be in limbo after the latest comment made by their board President Najam Sethi on Friday, June 16. Sethi, President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has opened up on his country’s stand regarding involvement in the mega event and said that any participation in the World Cup is subject to the&nbsp;government's approval. Pakistan are due to travel to India for the ODI World Cup despite India’s refusal to play in the Asia Cup in their backyard, which has now created a scene of limbo for the 1992 World Cup champions.

<h2>Pakistan’s participation in limbo?</h2>

"We have written to the ICC that we can't give approval or disapproval to this (World Cup schedule)," Sethi was quoted as saying by Espncricinfo.

"It's our government who has to decide, just like when it comes to India, it's their government that decides when they go to play. There is no point asking us if we will play in Ahmedabad. When the time comes, first it will be decided whether we are going or not, then the government decides where we will go. Our decision will rest on these two important conditions."

<h2>Asia Cup format impact?</h2>

As things stand, Pakistan are already on the back foot after they lost the rights to host the majority of the Asia Cup matches in coming August and September. The PCB is considered to be disappointed by the now official hybrid model of the Asia Cup where official hosts Pakistan is to host four matches while unofficial hosts Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches, including the final if India enter the showpiece.

While India remains clear on their stand on not travelling to Pakistan, Sethi previously stated that Pakistan might not travel to India and would propose a hybrid model for the World Cup. However, the approach has been turned down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Since India has confirmed it will not travel to Pakistan, a similar stand was expected to be taken by the PCB which has put Pakistan’s involvement in jeopardy for the ODI World Cup. The PCB also has opposed the idea of staging the India vs Pakistan league contest in Ahmedabad and wants it to be staged in another location.

Pakistan's involvement in ODI World Cup in LIMBO after Najam Sethi's latest comment

The century-old cricket bat industry of Kashmir Valley has become the biggest competitor for the famous English willow cricket bats. The number of cricket-playing nations picking up bats from Kashmir Valley has risen tremendously. And this year Made in Kashmir Bats will debut in the One Day International World Cup.&nbsp;

Since the 2020 World Cup in Australia, more and more cricket-playing nations are choosing cricket bats made in the Kashmir Valley. In 2023, Teams from six countries including Afghanistan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Oman, West Indies and Bangladesh will be using cricket bats made in the Kashmir Valley. This could mean a new dawn for the cricket bat industry in the Valley.&nbsp;

Fawzal Kabeer, who is the owner of GR8 Sports, Kashmir, said,&nbsp;"Last year when we took it to the T20 World Cup, the whole world came to know that we have an alternative in the form of Kashmir willow. The biggest six of the tournaments was hit with our bat. Now we have made our debut in one-day internationals. And as players are tested more in One-Day cricket instead of T20, the same test will be of our bat too."&nbsp;

"In one day, our bat performance will be judged. We were not recognised for 100 years now. We are giving the world an alternative that is economical but will also help our economy to boost. The Omani cricketer used our bat just two days ago. The capability of our bat is such that it's better than the English willow. We have proved to the world about the quality of the bats and have kept extremely low pricing for these as compared to others," Kabeer added.&nbsp;

GR8 Sports, a local company in the Halmula- Sangam area of Anantnag, has helped change the fate of the cricket bat industry in the Kashmir Valley. The company managed to get their manufactured bats used by the Oman cricket team during the T-20 world cup last year. And now the same company bats are making a debut in the prequalifying 50 over International Cricket World Cup.&nbsp;

And since the quality of the cricket bats from the Kashmir Valley is at par with the English Willow, more and more countries are ordering their cricket bats from Kashmir. The pricing remains one of the main factors too as English willow bats in the market cost around Rs one&nbsp;lakh ($1,216),&nbsp;while Kashmir willow bats are ten times lesser. Around a dozen cricket-playing countries have placed orders with Kashmir Bat manufacturers. And this year GR8 bat manufacturing company has received so many orders that they are working day and night.&nbsp;

A decade ago, around 300 thousand bats were made in Kashmir Valley and these numbers now have gone up to three&nbsp;million bats per year. There are around 400 bat factories in the Kashmir Valley and over 100 thousand people associated with the industry.

''After last year, our bat was able to hit the biggest six of the tournaments in Australia. Many orders poured in, and we were able to supply around 1.5 lac bats last year. That was only exports. &nbsp;We are right now producing 3 million bats in Kashmir annually. This year we are hoping to get more orders from the international market after making a debut in the one-day international. And once you are into exports that means money is coming into your country and you are helping the economy of the country. This will further help the economy of Kashmir, They have already replaced English Willow with the Kashmir willow bats,'' Kabeer further said. &nbsp;

The domestic cricketers are also now using Kashmir willow bats. Many cricket academies are trying their hands in Kashmir willow bats to train their students they feel is cheap and best quality bat.&nbsp;

Kashmir willow bats set to feature in ODI World Cup after successful trial in qualifying campaign

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has warned the International Cricket Council (ICC) bosses about his team’s stance in the ODI World Cup in the coming winter. According to the latest reports, Sethi has warned ICC bosses that his country won’t play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad until they are forced to play in the knockouts. The winter edition of the ODI World Cup is likely to start on October 5.

<h2>Pakistan not to play in Ahmedabad?</h2>

"Sethi has conveyed to Barclay and Allardice that Pakistan doesn't want its matches to be scheduled in Ahmedabad unless it is a knock-out game like the final. He requested ICC to schedule their games in Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata if national team gets clearance from the Pakistan government to travel to India for the global event scheduled in October and November," a senior PCB source said according to PTI news agency.

ICC General Manager Geoff Alardice and Barclay recently traveled to Pakistan to seek assurance on their participation in the ODI World Cup. Currently, the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are in hot water over the organisation of the Asia Cup. India will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament while the idea of a hybrid model has been proposed to carry the smooth passage of the Asia Cup.

"Sethi pointed out that it was unfair that Pakistan should get a lesser share of the ICC revenues in the new cycle compared to Australia and England. Sethi argued that Australia and England regularly get to play bilateral series with India and their players also take part in the Indian Premier League, which means extra revenues for the two boards from the IPL management," the source added.

<h2>PCB at fight with ICC</h2>

As things stand, the PCB chief is also unhappy about the revenue share Pakistan will get from the ICC tournaments after the latest meeting. Pakistan is to get a share lower than Australia and England while India will get the majority share in the revenue which ICC will gain in its upcoming tournaments.

On the flip side, the Asia Cup model is still in limbo as the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) is set to finalise the venues in the coming days. The ACC is headed by the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and will have a big say in the outcome when the Asia Cup venues will be decided.

ODI World Cup 2023: PCB chief Najam Sethi warns ICC bosses, says 'Pakistan doesn't want to play in Ahmedabad'

In the second segment of Wion's exclusive with former Indian stumper Saba Karim, he opined on India's playing XI for WTC final vs Australia. In addition, he opened up on the Men in Blue's chances for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, at home, and named their key player.

Exclusive | WTC Final: Former Indian stumper in favour of KS Bharat's inclusion in India's playing XI

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a fairytale end to IPL 2023 as they defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in a rain-marred summit clash by five wickets. CSK's win also marked the end of Ambati Rayudu's career as the veteran had already announced that IPL 2023 finale would be his last game in the cash-rich league. Thus, Rayudu ended his career in a fitting way by contributing with a crunch 8-ball 18 in CSK's stiff chase of 171 versus GT. His&nbsp;international career includes&nbsp;55 ODIs and six T20Is for India, scoring&nbsp;1,694 and&nbsp;42 runs, respectively.

Many believe Rayudu was one of those cricketers who could not play for India for a long time despite having immense potential. He enjoyed a long run in India's ODI squad ahead of the 2019 ODI World Cup but was dropped from the final squad for the mega event in England and Wales. His omission shocked many as Rayudu did a reasonably good job at No. 4 before the BCCI selectors opted for Vijay Shankar in place of him. During IPL 2023, when rain halted proceedings in the second half, former India head coach Anil Kumble recalled Rayudu's omission and said 'it was a huge blunder'.

<h2>'It was a huge blunder'</h2>

"Rayudu should have played the 2019 World Cup. Oh yes, there's no doubt about it. It was a huge blunder. You prepared him for that role for so long and his name just disappears from the squad. It was surprising nonetheless," Kumble said on Jio Cinema during the rain break in the IPL 2023 finale.

Talking about Rayudu's numbers in the IPL, the right-hander ended with&nbsp;4,348 runs in 204 games at an average of&nbsp;28.23 and a strike rate of&nbsp;127.54. The 37-year-old ended with as many as six IPL titles, joint-most along with Rohit Sharma. He won three during his run for MI and an equal number of trophies for CSK.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a solid squad for the IPL 2023 edition. Despite a strong start, they lost the way in the second half of the tournament to bow out from the playoffs race. The one-time winners finished second and many believe their poor usage of the Impact Player rule, silly mistakes in crunch situations and below-par returns of two premier batters such as Jos Buttler and skipper Samson led to their elimination.

Samson ended IPL 2023 with 362 runs in 14 matches, at a strike rate of 153.38, including three half-centuries. Over the years, Samson has created a huge fanbase for himself, including several former cricketers. But many believe he often does not do justice to his overall talent and skills. During IPL 2023 league stage, former India pacer S Sreesanth revealed that Little Master Sunil Gavaskar gave a suggestion to Samson, however, the latter followed his own style of batting. Talking to Star Sports, Sreesanth backed Samson but revealed he wasn't pleased with the latter's response to Gavaskar.&nbsp;

"I support Sanju because he played under my captaincy in U-14. In the past 4-5 years, when I see him as a cricketer, I've always told him to perform in first-class cricket, not just IPL. Produce consistent performances. Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant -- both were and still are ahead of him. Pant is not there, but he will make a comeback. I met him recently, he firmly believes he can come back within 6-to-8 months."

“But in this IPL, the way Sanju got out in 2-3 matches straight... Gavaskar sir told him, 'give yourself at least 10 balls. Read the wicket. We know you have a lot of talent, even if you have 0 runs in 12 balls, you can score 50 in 25'. When RR lost in one of their last matches in the league phase, Sanju said, 'no, my style is to play like this only'. I couldn't digest that,” Sreesanth added.

Given Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant injured with the ODI World Cup only few months away, Samson still has a chance to feature in India's ODI squad. However, he will need to be more consistent to be in India's white-ball scheme of things.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a solid squad for the IPL 2023 edition. Despite a strong start, they lost the way in the second half of the tournament to bow out from the playoffs race.

Samson ended IPL 2023 with 362 runs in 14 matches, at a strike rate of 153.38, including three half-centuries. Over the years, Samson has created a huge fanbase for himself, including several former cricketers. But many believe he often does not do justice to his overall talent and skills. England's 2019 ODI World Cup winner Jason Roy is considering negotiating a release&nbsp;from his England Cricket Board (ECB) contract. The swashbuckling right-hander is looking to&nbsp;take up a lucrative offer&nbsp;to play in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States, most likely for Los Angeles Knight Riders.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo,&nbsp;Roy is planning to cancel his contract in order to play in the league. Not only Roy but English pacer Reece Topley is also mulling&nbsp;a move. However, his final decision will depend on his injury. It is to be noted that Topley was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp in IPL 2023 but bowed out with a shoulder injury after their tournament opener.

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in match 65 of IPL 2023 on Thursday evening (May 18) in Hyderabad. Chasing 187, RCB got off to a flier courtesy of centurion Virat Kohli (63-ball 100) and skipper Faf (47-ball 71)'s majestic 172-run opening stand.

With another win, RCB inched closer to the playoffs and have lots to cheer for. Their skipper Faf has been in unreal form, scoring 702 runs (currently the Orange Cap holder) in 13 games including eight fifties, and has been leading the charge with the bat in every game. Thus, his RCB teammate Dinesh Karthik feels South Africa will be 'missing a trick if they don't take Faf to the ODI World Cup'.

Speaking on the latest edition of the ICC Review, Karthik said, "I'm not at all surprised with Faf’s form because I think he's a terrific player. He's a very good leader as well."

He further opined, "In the last four, five years of IPL, he's been very consistent and he's just had another year where he's been even more consistent, even more effective, even more powerful. I think South Africa will be missing a trick if they don't take him to the World Cup. I think he is ready. He is somebody who can make a difference as a leader, as a batter."

"So I genuinely wish Faf says yes, when South Africa asks him because he will make an impact at that World Cup if he's there," Karthik added.

Du Plessis led South Africa in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He has played for the Proteas in early 2021 and recently indicated that he remains open to representing the national team in white-ball formats. The forthcoming ODI World Cup will be held in India later this year.

BCCI likely to make major announcement on ODI World Cup after SGM; WTC final squad to travel in three slots

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has backed Ravi Shastri's recent claims that Team India should move on from the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20I format. In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, ex-India head coach Ravi Shastri said, "I wanted the selection committee to "start blooding them right now". He then added: "Players like Rohit, Virat Kohli, they are proven, you know what they are all about. I would go in that [good performers in the IPL] direction so that they get the opportunities, they get the exposure."

Now, Chopra has joined the bandwagon and made a big claim. The former Indian batter-turned-commentator feels the trio of Rohit, Kohli and KL Rahul won't feature in India's T20I plans this year with the ODI World Cup being the main agenda, to be held after a few months, in October-November. Chopra added that if India are determined to adapt to a new and more aggressive style of play, then the senior batters won't be able to adjust smoothly and following the superb performances of a plethora of youngsters in ongoing IPL 2023, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, etc., it is an apt time to try out the youngsters in the shortest format.

Chopra told Hindustan Times, "I won't see his (Rahul's) case to be in isolation in any way, to begin with. I feel the next generation of cricketers for this format is almost getting ready and the previous generation of players will find it increasingly difficult to be a part of the new template. If India, as they said in the last T20 World Cup that they are looking for a new template to play T20 cricket in, continue to play in the same fashion, you will see a lot of the previous generation players not being part of the T20 scheme of things."

"This is an ODI World Cup year so anyway India will be playing fewer T20I games in the remaining year, but whatever matches they play, I don't think you will see Kohli, Rohit or Rahul play. You don't even know when Rahul will actually be available. That is why I'm saying, things will change in the next 90 days," he asserted.

'I feel in the next 90 days...'

Chopra further asserted, "For Yashasvi I have in fact kept a timeline. I feel he will be in the Indian team in the next 90 days. The other one I feel is Rinku Singh and it is time to take him a lot more seriously. Those five sixes weren't a fluke. He has scored around 400 or more runs and the strike rate at which they have been scored and from that batting position, there is no other option available. Remember, these two aren't just a T20 phenomenon."

Rinku has a first-class average of 60 while Yashasvi has scored over 1000 runs in his short domestic career so far. So they have been performing in other formats as well it is just that the world tends to focus more on a player when it happens in the IPL," the former opener concluded.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi vowed that Pakistan may not travel to India in the ODI World Cup if their high-voltage clash takes place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It is suggested that Pakistan are reluctant to travel to India if they avoid coming to their land for the Asia Cup 2023 in September.

"When I heard that the Pakistan match was to be in Ahmedabad, I smiled and said to myself – ‘this is one way to make sure we don’t come to India’. I mean if you’d said Chennai or Kolkata, it might have made sense," Sethi told Indian Express.

"I don’t want to go into the politics of it but certainly there seems to be a political angle to this because if there’s one city where we might have security issues, it’s Ahmedabad. And therefore, I think the less said about that, the better. It gave the impression that this was a red herring that was thrown in our way to tell us, ‘hey, we are going to play you in Ahmedabad and you watch out. You know who rules Ahmedabad," he added.

<h2>Hybrid model rejected</h2>

According to the latest reports, the hybrid model is set to be rejected by the BCCI and other member nations of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), giving a big blow to Pakistan as they prepare to host the Asia Cup. With India not traveling to Pakistan and the hybrid model rejected, the speculations of the Asia Cup moving outside the current host nation have intensified.

ODI WC 2023: Najam Sethi on Pak tie in Gujarat, ‘this is one way to make sure we don’t come to India’

Yashasvi Jaiswal was in sublime touch when Rajasthan Royals (RR) came out to bat in pursuit of a moderate 150 versus hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 56 of the IPL 2023 edition, on Thursday (May 11). After losing some close games, during the end phase of the league stage, RR came out all guns blazing versus Nitish Rana-led KKR as they defeated them by nine wickets, with 41 balls to spare, courtesy of Jaiswal's 47-ball 98.

Jaiswal slammed 26 runs in the first over of the run-chase and went on to hit the fastest IPL fifty (in 13 balls). His knock was laced with 13 fours and five sixes at a whopping strike rate of 208.51 as RR completed the run-chase in a jiffy to get to 12 points and bolstered their Net Run Rate (NRR) with two games to play. After his whirlwind inning, former Team India all-rounder Suresh Raina, who was part of India's victorious 2011 ODI World Cup campaign, made a big statement.

“If I was the Indian selector, I would have signed him today itself for the World Cup because he is in a very fresh mind. He reminds me of Virender Sehwag. I'm sure Rohit Sharma will be watching this because he will be searching for batters like him for the World Cup,” said Raina while talking to JioCinema.

Seeing Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed shine bright for the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023, former England spinner Graeme Swann made a glaring remark. Swann believes every nation should be jealous of India for the number of wrist spinners they have except Afghanistan. Citing Noor and Rashid's success, as the duo have together accounted for 30 scalps so far for GT in this year's IPL, Swann spoke highly of the two and even claimed Afghanistan can win the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup due to their spin department.

During a media interaction, the Englishman said, "Every nation should be jealous that India have so many good wrist spinners in the country. The only nation that shouldn't be jealous is Afghanistan. Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad are possibly the best two bowlers in the world currently. Afghanistan can win the World Cup if they keep going. It is to be noted that the former England spinner is an IPL expert with Jio Cinema - the official digital broadcaster of IPL 2023.

At present, Rashid has accounted for 19 wickets -- second-overall -- for the Hardik Pandya-led defending champions whereas Noor, who is in his debut season, has claimed 11 wickets at an economy rate of&nbsp;6.94. Thus, Noor can well be in the reckoning to be a part of Afghanistan's ODI World Cup squad, to be held in India later this year. So far, he has only played one ODI and a solitary T20I but given his run in the ongoing IPL season, his experience can come in handy for his national side.&nbsp;

Hardik-led Gujarat occupy the top-spot in the IPL 2023 points table, with 16 points from 11 games. They next face the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (M) in match 57 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Another win will confirm them a spot in the playoffs and also a top-two finish.

The ODI World Cup is set to be held in India later this year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is busy in preparations while also conducting the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition in the country. While it is being reported that the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad can host the India-Pakistan clash, it is noted that Team India have also asked for spin-friendly venues for some big games in the league stage.

Spin-to-win mantra for Rohit Sharma-led Team India?

“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage,” a source in the BCCI said.

It is believed, as per the same report, that the BCCI will be announcing the forthcoming ODI&nbsp;World Cup schedule at a grand launch following the conclusion of IPL 2023.

This will be the first time that India will host the 50-over showpiece event entirely on its own. In 2011, India co-hosted the mega event, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and won the championship after 28 years. In the following two editions, the Men in Blue bowed out in the semi-finals.

The Asia Cup 2023 edition is only months away but the mystery surrounding the host&nbsp;for the continental tournament continues. Pakistan have been named as the host for the tournament but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear, last year, that the Indian team won't travel to their neighbouring Asian country due to the strained political relations between both nations.&nbsp;

Since then, a lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023 edition. Pakistan cricket board (PCB) responded by saying that it won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, to take place soon after the Asia Cup. Later on, it was revealed that the PCB offered a hybrid model where India will play their games at another&nbsp;venue while Pakistan will host the remaining games.

But this could also cost Pakistan the hosting rights. As per Cricket Pakistan, Pakistan will lose the hosting rights even if a hybrid model comes into place. Thus, the PCB is prepared to see the cancellation of this year's event. The report in&nbsp;cricketpakistan.com has further revealed that Team India might play a five-nation tournament in the vacant window following Asia Cup's cancellation.

Coming to Pakistan's threat to boycott this year's ODI WC, it is highly unlikely that they won't participate. The Men in Green travelled to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. They, however, might play their games in one or two venues only.&nbsp;

The Asia Cup was held last year, in the T20 format, in the UAE with Sri Lanka having the hosting rights. The Islanders won the tournament, beating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final.

India to feature in five-nation tournament with Asia Cup 2023 unlikely before ODI World Cup: Report

Pakistan Cricket Board’s interim chairman Najam Sethi could opt for a ‘hybrid model’ for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 while also narrating that the same should be implemented for the ODI World Cup. Sethi, who is handed an extension to his interim tenure earlier, suggested that they could allow India to play at a neutral venue in the Asia Cup while the same should be implemented for the ODI World Cup later in the year.

"We have been advised to play the Asia Cup at a neutral venue and also go to India for the World Cup,” Sethi said while not hinting at where the proposal came from.

"We feel this hybrid experiment can also be applied when it is time for the World Cup," Sethi said.

"Our stance is that everything should be on a reciprocal basis. In the old times, yes, there were security issues in Pakistan. But now there are no issues, so what is India's excuse for not playing in Pakistan?"

India has strongly hinted that they will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup later in the year and have asked for a neutral venue to stage their matches. The diplomatic relations between the nations have been in hot water in recent years, with India’s last visit to Pakistan coming in June 2008 in the Asia Cup.

Sethi, whose tenure was set to expire as the interim boss on Saturday, will be given an extension of two to four weeks. While could succeed as the new permanent head, he still feels India could come to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

"We have been told that, maybe, the ice will keep on melting - if this happens when the Champions Trophy is held in Pakistan in 2025, India would consider playing in Pakistan," Sethi said at a press interaction.

"Our government has imposed no restrictions about playing against India," Sethi said.

"But I can say right now that the public mood is: we are not needy and we can stand on our own feet financially and we want to play cricket with India honourably. We are also negotiating with the ACC."

The Asia Cup 2023 will get underway in Pakistan in September with six teams participating in the continental event. While the format will remain the same for groups, the fixtures will be played in 50 overs. Both India and Pakistan will be grouped together and could meet three times while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and one team will be identified after the qualifiers, which are currently underway in Nepal.

Asia Cup 2023: Najam Sethi hints at 'hybrid model' for IND-PAK venue issue, suggests THIS solution

A lot has been said and written about the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the continental tournament and remain firm on their stance. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are also adamant&nbsp;to host the event and many of their former cricketers have suggested for the Men in Green to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if their Asian neighbours do not visit them for Asia Cup.

Recently, multiple reports have suggested that talks are on for India to play their games elsewhere while Pakistan can continue to host the whole tournament. Amid all this, Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has come out with an absurd remark on the entire matter.

"Forget security. We believe that agar maut aani hai toh aani hai. Zindagi aur maut toh allah ke haath mein hai..(If death is your destiny, it will come for sure. Life and death are in the hands of the Almighty)," Miandad said in the podcast hosted by Nadir Ali.

Meanwhile, PCB chairman Najam Sethi recently said, as quoted by India Today, "We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play."

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi added.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for this year's Asia Cup. It is set to be held in September ahead of this year's ODI WC in India, in October-November.

'Forget security...': Wait, what? Javed Miandad makes ABSURD remark on India's reluctance to tour Pakistan

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have so far played three games and won two of them in IPL 2023. The MS Dhoni-led Yellow Army occupy the fifth spot at present and will host the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai in match 17 on Wednesday evening (April 12). While CSK have got off to a decent start, there are many injury concerns for the Dhoni-led franchise. While Moeen Ali was unwell and missed their previous game, versus Mumbai Indians (MI), Ben Stokes is also not fully fit and set to miss a few more games.

In addition, Deepak Chahar somehow managed to bowl just one over in CSK's seven-wicket win over MI on April 08, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He suffered a hamstring injury and is set to miss CSK's upcoming games. In IPL 2022, he missed the entire season due to back injury and has been out of action for Team India as well since December 2022. Injuries -- mainly back and hamstring issues -- have dented Chahar's run in the past few years and former India head coach Ravi Shastri blasted the CSK pacer.

Ahead of CSK versus RR, in Chennai, Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo's T20 Time Out, "Let us put it this way: There are quite a few players who have become permanent residents of the NCA. Soon they will get a residence permit there, allowing them to walk in any time they want. And it is not a good thing. It's unreal. I mean, you are not playing that much cricket to be injured again and again. You can't even play four matches on the trot. Then why are you going to NCA for? I mean you come back and after three matches you are back there."

While nothing is known about Chahar's injury right now, he is set to miss more than a couple of games for CSK and is participation in the remainder of IPL 2023 is also under dark clouds.&nbsp;

Former Australia great and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has made a huge claim on India’s star prospect and Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav and the potential impact he could have at the ODI World Cup later this year. According to Ponting, Surya can win India the World Cup, despite having been out for three golden ducks in the recently concluded ODI series. The India batter will look to return to form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), where MI lost their opening match to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"Everyone around the world knows what Surya [Suryakumar] can do in white-ball cricket. They should stick with him, I feel," Ponting told the ICC Review.

"Because he is I think the kind of player that can win you a World Cup.

"He might be a little bit inconsistent but he's the sort of guy who in big moments can win you something," Ponting said.

The former Aussie captain drew Surya’s comparison with late all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who tragically lost his life in 2022. According to Ponting, Surya is playing a similar role to that of his former teammate.

"A bit like the late great Andrew Symonds did for Australia.

"When you invest in these guys, you give them an opportunity, you give them a pretty clear direction and get some clarity around the role you want them to play, they've got so much talent that they can single-handedly win you games.

Talking on the prospect of match-winning players, Ponting reckons India should use all the players at their disposal. The Indian team will have the privilege of using Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, with the latter still nursing an injury.

"That's definitely the way that I'd look at it for India. I wouldn't be playing it safe, I'd be going with match-winning players and I think he's a match-winner," he said.

Suryakumar, in 21 ODI innings, has scored 433 runs at an average of 24.05 with two half-centuries but was dismissed for three consecutive ducks in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. He will next take the field on Saturday, April 8 against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and will look to return to form.

IPL 2023: DC boss Ricky Ponting makes huge claim on Suryakumar Yadav, says he can win you ODI World Cup

Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) are off to a flying start in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition. PBKS have started off on a winning note, emerging on top in their first two games of the new season under the new captain. Dhawan led the charge with the bat in his side's last outing, versus the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on Wednesday (April 05), with a fine 56-ball 86* as Punjab beat Sanju Samson &amp; Co. by five runs in a high-scoring thriller.

The 16th edition of the IPL is a vital season for Dhawan. The senior Indian player has been dropped from the ODI side, having lost his T20I place back in late 2021, and needs a memorable run with the bat in IPL 2023 to have any chance of featuring in the Indian squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. After his splendid knock versus RR, former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Dhawan and questioned 'why he is not getting a chance in the Indian team'.

'You gave Rohit, Kohli and KL&nbsp;plenty of chances but there is no place for&nbsp;Dhawan'

"Shikhar has also led the Indian side in many tours but suddenly we saw that after the role of Shikhar was over he was sidelined as if he is not needed anymore. I felt bad on seeing this because the treatment for everyone should be the same. He is a big player and has given too much to Indian cricket," Harbhajan&nbsp;shared his views on YouTube.

"You can not treat him like this. He played a good knock of 86 in 56 balls. I will not name anyone here. For instance, let's take Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli, or KL Rahul who are big names. You gave them plenty of chances but on the other hand, there is no place for Shikhar Dhawan in the team now. He has always contributed for the team. Then why he is not getting a chance in the Indian team? Talking about fitness, he is as fit as Virat Kohli," Harbhajan further added.

The senior Indian batter has been replaced by Shubman Gill who has had a remarkable run across formats. Dhawan will still hope for a good IPL season with the bat and pray for a return to the national side for the ODI WC.

Dhawan-led PBKS will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on Sunday evening (April 09) and hope to keep their winning run going in IPL 2023.

'You gave Rohit, Virat & Rahul plenty of chances': Harbhajan Singh questions Indian star player's omission

Team India players are currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition. Nonetheless, all the focus is on this year's ODI World Cup (ODI WC), which will be held in India in October-November. India will gear up to face Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, soon after IPL 16 in early June, before the 50-over showpiece event kicks off later this year.

It is to be noted that India remains one of the top teams across formats but have not won an ICC title since 2013. Under MS Dhoni, India last won an ICC event during the 2013 Champions Trophy. Since then, they have reached the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup (T20 WC), semi-finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI WCs and semis of the 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 WC. In addition, they played the inaugural WTC final where they lost to New Zealand.&nbsp;

Thus, all eyes are on Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. to replicate Dhoni-led India's 2011 batch's ODI WC success later this year. Ahead of the showpiece event, Indian team is preparing and gelling well -- with several positives -- but are dealing with regular injury concerns and questions have also been raised on the frequent rests given to key players. In this regard, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar issued a stern warning to the Men in Blue.

"In a World Cup year any match missed means preparation gets hampered as the balance of the team gets affected. Another failure to win a World Cup will have repercussions that could possibly end a few international careers and that should be a red flag for those talking burnout and missing games for India." Gavaskar recently wrote in his column for Mid-Day

Tell me if there is any company whose CEO, or MDs get so much time off? I feel that if Indian cricket is to become more professional, a line needs to be drawn. If you want to be rested, you need to reduce your guarantees. Then you take rest, because you don't want to play. But how can anyone say that I don't want to play for the Indian team. Which is why I do not agree to the concept," Gavaskar has previously stated.

Another failure to win a World Cup could end few international careers: Gavaskar's stern warning to Team India

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) stand on playing in India for ODI World Cup took another twist on Thursday after the latest report. According to a report from Asian News International (ANI), PCB wants its cricket team to play in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup with their stand still not clear. The stand of Pakistan came into the limelight after India refused to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

“Yes, we are thinking that we will not travel to India for World Cup matches if BCCI didn’t send their team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. We want Sri Lanka or Bangladesh to host our matches, we want to play there, and not in India,” a PCB source told ANI.

<h3>ICC clear air on Bangladesh option</h3>

After reports from ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday, Pakistan is exploring the option of using Bangladesh as a neutral venue for the ODI World Cup. According to the report, Bangladesh possesses perfect conditions similar to India and could help organise Pakistan’s matches.

However, International Cricket Council (ICC) officials said that Bangladesh was not an option for the showpiece event as a neutral venue. There were no discussions in the recently concluded ICC meetings on using Bangladesh as the neutral venue while India are exploring the option of using a neutral venue for the Asia Cup 2023 where Pakistan is the host.&nbsp;

"Bangladesh was not discussed at all at the Board meeting and full backing for the event [World Cup] in India was given by the Board. We're focused on that," an ICC official told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Earlier, Wasim had said that Pakistan might end up playing their 2023 World Cup matches at a neutral venue instead of India.

“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their World Cup matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim told a local news channel.

The ODI World Cup will begin in India on October 5 with the final likely to take place on November 19. The final of the competition is likely to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

ODI World Cup 2023: PCB open to neutral venue after Sri Lanka emerges as another potential option - Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to explore their options of playing at a neutral venue in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The idea which has been initiated after India’s refusal to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 has left PCB to explore their chances with the World Cup now just a little over six months away. If this is the case according to a report, Pakistan could be seen playing in Bangladesh despite India being the sole host of the showpiece event.

<h3>What is on agenda?</h3>

In a recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting, one of the agendas discussed was an option for India’s potential neutral venue for the Asia Cup. This comes after India refused to visit their neighbours for the Asia Cup 2023, raising further friction between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

With India, all set to play Asia Cup at a neutral venue in UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka, or England, the Pakistan cricket team is also determined not to visit India for the ODI World Cup according to a report from Espncricinfo. If this is the case, Pakistan like India in the Asia Cup will use a neutral venue to play their World Cup matches.

The meeting in Dubai was in place to resolve the matter surrounding future scenarios as well with the 2025 Champions Trophy also a point of discussion. India are determined not to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in February 2025 and thus leaving an option of hosting both India and Pakistan matches at a neutral venue albeit of the competition.&nbsp;

In this scenario, Bangladesh will likely host Pakistan's matches as they remain in the geographical radius of the World Cup host India while also allowing the integrity of the game to be on agenda, Bangladesh possesses the same weather and atmosphere as India and could suit them if they opt for a neutral venue.&nbsp;

This will include India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup and potentially the World Cup and Champions Trophy matches as well. However, considering BCCI’s own stand, they may still allow Pakistan to play their league matches away from India, but due to sponsorship and broadcasting reasons, their World Cup clash against India and the knockout stage matches look unlikely to move away from the original host.

While there is no official word on the report, India and Pakistan look no closer to renewing their rivalry in a bilateral series. Not since December 2007 have the great rivals played in a Test series while their all recent meetings have come in continental and international competitions. The last meeting between the sides came in October 2022 at the T20 World Cup in Australia and are likely to meet at the ODI World Cup as well.
