The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released dates for the latest phase of ticket sales for the ODI World Cup as fans will have one more opportunity to attend the carnival of cricket. The BCCI is set to release a second lot of 400, 000 tickets for the upcoming ODI World Cup with the first phase getting sold out in minutes. The fans were disappointed for not getting the tickets in the earlier phase but will now have the opportunity to book their tickets for the premium fixtures.

<h2>400,000 tickets to go on sale</h2>

"The BCCI deeply acknowledges that fans are the heartbeat of the tournament, and their unwavering passion, engagement, and contributions are pivotal to the success of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023," the statement said.

“The general sale of tickets for all matches of the World Cup will commence from 8 pm IST on September 8, adding that fans will be notified of the further sale of tickets in the next phase in due course,” the statement further added.&nbsp;

The BCCI had seen a big backlash from the fans and the stakeholders for releasing the schedule of the ODI World Cup late while revealing the ticket details just weeks before the planned tournament. To add further embarrassment, BCCI and International Cricket Council (ICC) made further changes to the fixture list with India’s scheduled tie against Pakistan moving to Saturday, October 14.

The tickets were sold out in minutes when the first phase began, were made available for matches, except for the knockouts, by the BCCI in August. The original phased approach of online sales (except for the knockouts) ended on September 3. However, no clarification was provided on why these 400,000 tickets were not part of the first phase of sale.

<h2>Less than month to go&nbsp;</h2>

The ODI World Cup will kick start in less than a month when England take on New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 edition. The first match will take place at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5. India will kick start its World Cup journey on Sunday, October 8 against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Interestingly, the World Cup warm-up matches will get underway in the final week of September.

BCCI announces next date for ODI World Cup ticket sales; 400,000 tickets to be made available

India's star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been signed up by Kent Cricket for the remainder of the County Championship season "subject to regulatory approval".

"Kent Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of India international leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the Club’s remaining County Championship matches, subject to regulatory approval," Kent announced in an official statement.

A seasoned white-ball international, Chahal has 87 wickets to date in 33 first-class appearances, with best figures of 6-44 coming for his native Haryana against Hyderabad in India’s Ranji Trophy.

He will be available for selection in Kent’s remaining two home Championship matches against Nottinghamshire and Lancashire, as well as Kent’s away fixture against Somerset.

On joining Kent in first-class cricket until the end of the season, Chahal said, “This is an exciting challenge for me, playing in English county cricket, and one I’m very much looking forward to.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said, “We’re delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra’s quality for the last three Championship matches of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year, and Hami Qadri recently injured.”

“He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our squad," he added.

Yuzvendra Chahal set for County stint, signs up to play three games for Kent

Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin has lauded Ishan Kishan and hailed his versatility after the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was named in India's 15-man squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Kishan pipped Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson to be included in the provisional squad along with keeper-batter KL Rahul. The young batter has been in solid form in the 50-over format with four successive half-centuries and confirmed his WC spot following a fine 82 versus Pakistan in India's Asia Cup 2023 opener, on September 02.&nbsp;

Speaking on Kishan, Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, "This is not a competition between Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, because Kishan fills so many roles. When you pick a 15-member squad, you need to pick a backup wicket-keeper. Even when we pick a Ranji Trophy squad, we pick two wicket-keepers."

The 36-year-old Ashwin further highlighted that Kishan can bat anywhere and being a left-hander, he will add more variety to the line-up. It is to be noted that India have two left-handers in the form of Kishan and Ravindra Jadeja among their main&nbsp;batters --&nbsp;Kuldeep Yadav is also a left-hander down the order -- going into the mega event.&nbsp;

“Ishan Kishan is also a back-up opener along with being a back-up wicket-keeper, he is two-in-one player. Now that Ishan Kishan has succeeded at Number 5, it gives India two left-handers in the middle order. Everyone was going gaga over left-handers and they were saying Ishan Kishan cannot bat at No.5, but he has delivered now,” Ashwin added.

It will be interesting to see if India field both Rahul -- who is now fit and joined the squad in Sri Lanka -- and Kishan in the playing XI.&nbsp;

After the Asia Cup, India will host Australia in three ODIs before playing their WC opener versus Pat Cummins &amp; Co. on October 08 in Chennai. The World Cup kicks off in Ahmedabad with defending champions England taking on New Zealand on October 05.

He's a two-in-one player: Ashwin lauds Kishan's versatility after batter included in India's CWC '23 squad

Team India is all set to bid for its third ODI World Cup as they prepare for the final push before the tournament begins on October 5. With less than a month to go for the start of the ODI World Cup in their own backyard, India announced its 15-member squad with no real surprises. Ishan Kishan, named in the squad, has been knocking on the doors for a permanent spot in the Playing XI, but the question is does he deserve to start ahead of KL Rahul in the ODI World Cup?

<h2>In-form batter</h2>

Ishan, 25, has been in great form in the recent times that has seen him cement his place in the Playing XI, but with veteran Rahul set for a comeback in the team, his place could be in jeopardy. In the West Indies tour, he scored three consecutive fifties while he continued his best touch with another one in the opening Asia Cup 2023 contest against Pakistan. With four consecutive fifties, he is the most in-form player in the Indian side.

Since the tail end of last year, Ishan Kishan has scored runs left, right, and centre&nbsp;which earned him a&nbsp;place in the team. He scored a brilliant double hundred in the ODI against Bangladesh last December; however, Shubman Gill’s form saw him go down the pecking order. But injuries to players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer helped him claw back into the team.

<h2>Wicketkeeper option</h2>

Ishan’s formidability in the team also attracts a huge interest as the team has struggled since Rishabh Pant’s near-fatal accident last December. The key role initially saw three frontrunners in the form of Rahul, Ishan, and Sanju Samson in the race to take over the duties with gloves. The Mumbai Indians batter is already an established wicketkeeper while providing competition to Rahul and Samson. As things stand, Rahul (in the World Cup squad) has been struggling with injury issues while Samson (not in the World Cup squad) has failed to impress the selectors.

There are also concerns over Rahul’s ability to don the gloves for 50 overs as he is yet to take to the pitch since the final week of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With fitness playing a key role, Ishan looks a perfect fit in the side and has barely struggled with injuries.

<h2>Lack of left-hander options</h2>

The current Indian batting line-up lacks left-handing batting options, and Ishan provides relief on that front. As anticipated, if India put in a fully-strengthened side, the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel remain the only left-hand batting options. If KL Rahul gets the nod ahead of Ishan, in this case, the Men in Blue will have a left-hand batting option in the top six.

Interestingly, compared to previous World Cup squads, India always had a good left-right combination to play the mind games. In the 2011 ODI World Cup, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina were the guaranteed left-hand batting options in the squad while Shikhar Dhawan was another key member during the last decade.

Provided India could struggle with the rotation of strikes and play the mind games, Ishan could be the perfect fit in the team.

<h2>KL Rahul’s injury worries</h2>

While Ishan has been knocking on the doors for a place in the Playing XI, he has been helped in disguise by the injuries to KL Rahul and Samson’s inability to make the most of his opportunity. While Samson is no threat to Ishan since getting omitted from the ODI World Cup squad, Rahul could be his close compatriot in the team. However, with Rahul still struggling with injuries Ishan has become an automatic starter in the side.

31-year-old Rahul has missed cricketing action since May when he got injured against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He has since been on treatment and rehabilitation and only returned to the squad for the Asia Cup 2023. However, it was later revealed he won’t be available for the group stages of the Asia Cup and will participate when the Super Four stage begins.

<h2>Utility option in team</h2>

As things stand, the Indian team management will also have a decent headache if any player from the middle-order or opening slot goes missing. Ishan in this case could be a natural choice in the team as he can fill in at the top and the middle order. The wicket-keeper batter from Patna will be a good option if anyone from the middle-order gets injured and could also fill in for Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma if required.

India’s ODI World Cup campaign will get underway on October 8 against Australia, while also having a good warm-up during the Asia Cup. Interestingly, India will also face Australia in a three-match ODI series later this month, giving Ishan and Rahul a perfect opportunity to prove their worth in the Playing XI.

Explained | Why Ishan Kishan should be in the India Playing XI during ODI World Cup

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced India's 15-man squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir stated that he would prefer to have Ishan Kishan over KL Rahul in the playing XI for the marquee event. Kishan has been in top form, having scored four successive half-centuries, whereas Rahul is yet to get some match practice despite being named in the CWC squad. He will make his comeback in the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, which will give a clear picture of his fitness going ahead.&nbsp;

Analysing the World Cup squad, Gambhir made his preference known by backing Kishan and said on Star Sports, "Tell me something, what is more important to win a championship — name or form? If Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli) had scored something similar (four consecutive fifties), would you still say that KL Rahul would replace them?" He further pointed out. "The point is, when you're gearing up to win the World Cup, you don't see the name, you judge by their form. You choose the player who can perform and win you the World Cup."

Gambhir added, "I feel Ishan Kishan has done everything he needs to do to be a frontrunner," he further added. Just because he is Ishan Kishan and hasn't played a lot of international cricket, you're saying that KL Rahul should play before him," he said. "But if Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma were in place of Ishan Kishan, would KL Rahul be able to replace them? The answer is 'no'."

Kishan is riding high on his impressive 82 in India's Asia Cup opener versus arch-rivals Pakistan on September 02 in Kandy. Coming to bat at No. 5, the left-hander stitched a handy 138-run fifth-wicket stand with Hardik Pandya (87) to take India to 265 all-out in 48.5 overs. Meanwhile, Rahul has been superb for India in the middle-order since early 2020. At No. 5, he averages a healthy 53 with 742 runs in 18 innings along with a ton and seven half-centuries.

It will be interesting to see India's team combination going forward, with both Kishan and Rahul's availability. After the CWC squad announcement, captain Rohit Sharma did not rule out playing both the keeper-batters together in the XI. At present, India is gearing up for its first game in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup, where they once again take on Pakistan on September 10 (Sunday) in Colombo.

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced India's 15-man squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir stated that he would prefer to have Ishan Kishan over KL Rahul in the playing XI for the marquee event.

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced India's 15-man squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir stated that he would prefer to have Ishan Kishan over KL Rahul in the playing XI for the marquee event. Kishan has been in top form, having scored four successive half-centuries, whereas Rahul is yet to get some match practice despite being named in the CWC squad. He will make his comeback in the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, which will give a clear picture of his fitness going ahead. You choose the player who can perform and win you the World Cup." Also read: Former India opener Virender Sehwag calls for adding 'Bharat' to India's ODI World Cup jersey Gambhir added, "I feel Ishan Kishan has done everything he needs to do to be a frontrunner," he further added. Just because he is Ishan Kishan and hasn't played a lot of international cricket, you're saying that KL Rahul should play before him," he said. "But if Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma were in place of Ishan Kishan, would KL Rahul be able to replace them? The answer is 'no'." Kishan is riding high on his impressive 82 in India's Asia Cup opener versus arch-rivals Pakistan on September 02 in Kandy. Alex Carey and Josh Inglis have been named as the wicketkeeper-batters in the final 15 with the former expected to be the primary choice. The wily keeper was among the top scorers for Australia in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He ended with 375 runs at an average of 62.50 with a best of 82.

Australia name 15-man squad for CWC '23, Pat Cummins to lead as Nathan Ellis and two others miss out

India's ICC ODI World Cup squad raised a few questions about the host team being a bit conservative and giving batting depth a priority over wicket-taking options. The 15-man squad has only one specialist spinner in Kuldeep Yadav and three genuine fast bowlers - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

However, if the ongoing Asia Cup is any indication, India will only play two of their three fast bowlers in the match, with Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav bowling the rest of the 30 overs. While the squad looks balanced, a lack of out-and-out wicket-taking options in the middle overs could hamper India's chances.

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody, however, thinks that India have a balanced side and that 'home advantage' is going to be big for them. Moody also added that Bumrah and Shami's fitness is going to be the key for India in the quadrennial tournament.

“Yes, I think they have a side that’s good enough to win the World Cup. I think home advantage will be a big one for India, but I bring that point around the fitness. The fitness of Bumrah and Shami is absolutely key to me as both of them are high-quality new ball bowlers,” Moody said in a conversation on Star Sports.

“I think a lot of it depends on the fitness and longevity of Bumrah. I think he holds such an important key for India because he has such high quality and impacts the game early and also closes the innings. And I see that it’s basically going to be a difficult World Cup with regards to making sure that you keep your bowlers fit. It’s a long campaign, but India certainly have got the diversity in their side. It’s just the case of them making sure they have their key players fit, particularly their bowlers,” he added.

The marquee event starts October 5 with the final scheduled to take place on November 19.

Kane&nbsp;Williamson&nbsp;will captain New Zealand at next month's World Cup after making "sufficient progress" in his recovery from a knee injury, the country's cricket board said on Monday. Williamson&nbsp;underwent surgery after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the Indian Premier League in early April, which had cast doubt over his participation in the tournament.

The 33-year-old had been given two weeks to prove his fitness for the Oct. 5- Nov. 19 50-overs World Cup in India. "Williamson&nbsp;has made sufficient progress in his recovery to allow him to be included in the squad for the tournament starting in October," NZC said in a statement.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead praised&nbsp;Williamson's "phenomenal dedication", adding: "He's left no stone unturned in trying to get back playing cricket at the highest level. We are delighted to be in a place to select him.

"At the same time, he's also kept perspective about his recovery and hasn't wanted to rush or force his way back too early. As we've previously said, it's great he wants to play cricket for New Zealand in the long term." However, Stead stressed that there was no clear timeline for&nbsp;Williamson's return.

"As we've said throughout this process we want to give&nbsp;Kane&nbsp;every bit of available time to aid his recovery," Stead said. "The World Cup is not a short tournament and we will continue to monitor his progress over the next month ahead of the first tournament match."

The NZC added that the rest of the squad would be announced on Sept. 11. New Zealand play England in the final Twenty20 international of a four-match series on Tuesday, before facing the same opponents in a four-match one-day international series.

Kane Williamson set to captain New Zealand in CWC 2023 after progress in injury recovery

On Tuesday (September 5), India announced a strong 15-man squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition. After the squad was announced, Indian captain Rohit Sharma snapped at a reporter during the press conference, in the presence of BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar. I won't ask such questions. It doesn't make sense to talk about such things. Our focus is something else and we do not care about these things."

I won't answer those questions: Rohit snaps at reporter during press conference after India name CWC squad

On Tuesday (September 5), Team India announced a strong 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, which will be held in India starting on October 5. While India retained the majority of their players from the Asia Cup squad, they left out Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Varma whereas Sanju Samson -- who is the sole travelling reserve -- also failed to make the cut. Among the notable omissions Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin and Washington Sundar.

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar named India's final 15, in the presence of Indian captain Rohit Sharma during a presser in Sri Lanka, former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took to his official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared his reaction.&nbsp;

"Surprised not to see Yuzvendra Chahal in the World Cup squad for Team India. pure Match winner," Harbhajan said.

Chahal, a veteran of 121 wickets in 72 ODIs, was part of India's 2019 ODI World Cup squad where they bowed out in the semi-finals. In 2023, he&nbsp;played only two ODIs. Interestingly, India have only one specialist spinner in their final 15 in the form of Kuldeep Yadav. As all teams can make changes to their squad until September 28, it will be interesting to see if a late twist is in store for Chahal.

Meanwhile, Rohit told reporters, "There are no surprises and you can get only 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is best 15 we could get."

"I have not thought about plans yet. Problem of plenty is a good problem to have. We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team," Hitman further added.

At present, India are gearing up for their Super Four face-off versus arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup. They will host Australia in three ODIs later this month before stepping on to the ODI World Cup. The mega event kicks off on October 05 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad whereas Rohit &amp; Co. will lock horns with Australia in their tournament-opener on October 08 in Chennai.&nbsp;

Harbhajan Singh 'surprised' to see THIS 'pure match winner' snubbed from India's ODI World Cup squad

South Africa batter Quinton de Kock has called time on his ODI career on Tuesday (September 5), bringing to an end his 10-year association with the national side. The upcoming ODI World Cup will be De Kock’s last tournament for the ODI side. Having also announced retirement from the Test side in December 2021, he will bow out of the game with an opportunity to complete 6,000 runs in the World Cup where his team will start their adventure against Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 7.

<h2>De Kock hangs boots</h2>

"Quinton de Kock has been a really good servant to South African cricket," South Africa's Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe said.

"He set the benchmark with his attacking batting style and was a key member of the squad for a number of years. He also wore the captain's armband and that is an honour that very few people get to hold.”

At the time of writing, the 30-year-old has made 140 appearances in the ODI format with 5,966 runs at an average of 44.85. His ODI career also includes 17 hundreds and 29 fifties with a best of 178 against Australia at Centurion in 2016. He was the fourth fastest to reach 1,000 runs in the ODI format in just 21 innings.

"We understand his decision to step back from ODI cricket and we want to thank him for his service over the years. We wish him well for the future but still look forward to seeing him represent the Proteas in T20I cricket,” the South African cricket body said in its&nbsp;statement.

De Kock made his debut with the national side in 2012 against New Zealand in the T20I format at Durban and scored 28 runs in a one-sided contest. He would make his ODI debut against the same side in January 2013 at Paarl. He was part of the South African side during the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup.

After South Africa's squad announcement, Quinton de Kock reveals he'll retire after ODI World Cup

South Africa cricket team announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup on Tuesday (September 5) and there were no big surprises. The team led by Temba Bavuma has seen the inclusion of inexperienced pacer Gerald Coetzee as he makes the cut along with the likes of Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Rassie van der Dussen who will form the backbone of the squad. Interestingly, there was no place for young batting sensation Dewald Brevis in the squad.

The Proteas, set to make their ninth appearance at the ODI World Cup, went without too many surprises as they opted to keep the same core of players playing in recent times. Led by Bavuma in the World Cup, the team’s batting attack has seen the inclusion of experienced campaigners like De Kock, Hendricks, Klaasen, and others. On the flip side, the bowling department will be led by the likes of Kagiso Rabada and includes Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi.

Interestingly, the pace attack also sees the inclusion of inexperienced Coetzee who has five wickets in two ODI Matches. He made his debut earlier in the year and has been on the radar of the selector's panel since. South Africa boasts outstanding spinners in Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, who are well-equipped to excel in this role.

In an unfortunate news, young batting sensation Brevis saw his name trimmed out despite being in the squad for the Australia series. Brevis had been knocking on the doors of the national team ever since shining at the U-19 World Cup stage in 2022.

Temba Bavuma-led South Africa announce squad for upcoming ODI World Cup; no place for Dewald Brevis

Team India announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, at home, starting on October 5. From India's current 18-man Asia Cup squad, including a reserve player, the trio of Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma have been dropped as the rest 15 made the cut in the final squad. It is to be noted that all the teams have until September 28 to make any changes to the squad. Thus, some late changes might take place.&nbsp;

After BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar named India's final 15 in a press conference along with captain Rohit Sharma in Sri Lanka, the duo took some questions from the reporters.

Sympathising with the dropped players, Rohit said, "There are no surprises and you can only get 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is the best 15 we could get."

It is to be noted that Rohit played his first 50-over World Cup in 2015 as he was left out of MS Dhoni-led India's victorious squad from the 2011 edition. Back in 2011, when India co-hosted the mega event with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Hitman was overlooked as his competitors Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina got a look-in.

However, Rohit revamped in style and had a decent run in 2015 whereas came to his best in the 2019 edition, ending as the highest run-getter (648 runs with five centuries) in England and Wales. Thus, the 36-year-old has gone through a lot of ups and downs and will surely lend a supporting hand to the players who failed to make the cut.

We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team."

India will open their campaign versus Australia in Chennai&nbsp;on October 8 whereas the CWC 2023 opener will be held on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

At present, the Men in Blue are gearing up for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023 edition, where they will take on Pakistan on Sunday (September 10).&nbsp;

On Tuesday (September 05), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's 15-man provisional squad for the forthcoming home ODI World Cup, which kicks off exactly after a month (October 05). BCCI announces India's 15-man squad for 2023 ODI World Cup, KL Rahul makes the cut

Former India captain and World Cup winner Sunil Gavaskar has raised question marks on KL Rahul’s inclusion in the squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in his native homeland. Rahul, in the Indian team for the Asia Cup squad, will not participate in the Group stage of the Asia Cup and will miss the clashes against Pakistan and Nepal. However, according to Gavaskar that could his World Cup spot in danger by not playing time before the squad announcement on September 5.

<h2>Rahul in big problem?</h2>

"You know, mostly, I think the fact that he's not gone is possibly because of the fact that he wants treatment to be continued at the heads of the same physios who have been treating him at the NCA. But then, yes, I think it's a tricky situation because if he's not playing any game before the fifth of September, how do you assess his situation? Because the perspectives about the match's weaknesses is another thing. So, I think it's gonna be a tough call for the selection committee,” Gavaskar said while in conversation with India Today.

Rahul won’t be in international action before September 5, which is the deadline set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to announce the squad for the ODI World Cup, while changes could still be made until the end of the month. Rahul’s first game for India in the Asia Cup will come after September 5 as he is still nursing his injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

The veteran star is an important part of the Indian team as he comes with the utility factor of the wicketkeeper option. However, if he does not impress and fails to recover from the injury it could open doors for Sanju Samson in the squad while Ishan Kishan could be given a Playing XI berth.

Kishan is also expected to start against Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener for India on Saturday when the two arch-rivals meet in Pallekele.&nbsp;

On the flip side, Pakistan have made the first move before the high-voltage clash against India as they announced their Playing XI on Friday, September 1. Babar Azam’s men have gone unchanged from their opening contest against Nepal where they won by 238 runs in Multan.

CWC 2023: Former captain makes big remarks on KL Rahul's inclusion, says 'that's gonna be sad, but...'

Bangladesh pace sensation Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI World Cup after sustaining a knee injury. The injury blow will be a major concern for Bangladesh who are already nursing former skipper Tamim Iqbal who will miss the Asia Cup 2023. The big news follows after the Tigers also had Litton Das ruled out of the Asia Cup having failed to recover from a virus. The pacer is required to go under the knife and would be unable to recover in time for the ODI World Cup in India.

<h2>Ebadot to miss World Cup</h2>

"He (Ebadot) will not be available for us in the World Cup," BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

"It's a big blow for us as he will require operation for his knee. Following the operation he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purpose, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for World Cup," he said.

Hossain’s initial injury occurred in the Afghanistan series where he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. This forced him to withdraw from the series with Tanzim Sakib being the replacement for Asia Cup. It was initially expected that the 29-year-old would make the squad for the World Cup, but latest reports have seen him get ruled out of the World Cup.

So far the right-arm pacer has played 20 Test matches along with 12 ODIs and four T20Is for Bangladesh. He has scalped 71 international wickets for Bangladesh and could have been a vital tool in the middle overs. In his absence, the bowling responsibilities will rest on the shoulders of Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam.

<h2>What next for Bangladesh?</h2>

Bangladesh immediate concern though will be the Asia Cup where they will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on Thursday, August 31. They are placed in Group B along with Afghanistan, whom they meet on Sunday, September 3. Interestingly, Bangladesh’s World Cup quest begins on Afghanistan on Saturday, October 7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

CWC 2023: Pace sensation Ebadot Hossain ruled out with knee injury as Bangladesh suffer major injury blow

Former West Indies legend Vivian Richards has named the bowler who he feels will end up as the leading wicket-taker in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition in India. The forthcoming edition will be held entirely in India and kicks off on October 05, in Ahmedabad, with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand whereas the Rohit Sharma-led home side will start their run on October 08 in Chennai. Richards, who was part of Clive Llyod-led West Indies' title run in 1975 and 1979, feels Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi will return with most wickets in the mega event.

Speaking to the ICC, Richards said, "The leading wicket-taker in the World Cup will be Shaheen Afridi because I have seen him in Pakistan. I spent some time in the PSL and I have seen his massive growth. He is a highly determined individual. He is my man."

Not Bumrah, Starc or Rashid! Richards names THIS pacer to become CWC 2023's leading wicket-taker

Virat Kohli is set to feature in his fourth ODI World Cup when the upcoming 2023 edition kicks off on October 5 in India. At 34, Kohli will leave no stone unturned to help India end their ten-year-long ICC title drought and win the 50-over showpiece event. It is to be noted that India last won the ODI World Cup when the ICC event was co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Thus, the home side will be eager to replicate their 2011 heroics. Kohli, who was part of the MS Dhoni-led victorious side in 2011, will aim to bring his experience into play and help Rohit Sharma and Co.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, which starts on August 30 (Wednesday), and will soon be followed by the CWC 2023, Kohli recalled the memories from the 2011 edition and claimed that winning the 50-over championship is his career's highlight.&nbsp;

<h2>'It was stuff from dreams'</h2>

In an event in Bengaluru, Kohli was quoted as saying by PTI, "My career highlight is obviously winning the World Cup in 2011. I was 23 at the time, and I probably didn't understand the magnitude of it. But now at 34, and has played many World Cups, which we haven't been able to win, So, I understand the emotions of all the senior players (in 2011)."

"All the more for Sachin Tendulkar, as it was his last World Cup. He had already played many World Cups by then and to win it in Mumbai, his hometown, was very special for him. I mean, it was stuff from dreams," the former captain opined.

Recalling his entire experience, Kohli said, "I remember the amount of pressure there was on all the players when we were travelling. Thankfully, there was no social media back then. It would have been a nightmare, honestly. But through the airports, it was always just one thing -- we need to win the Cup."

Kohli had a decent run in his first-ever World Cup in 2011. He ended with 282 runs -- including a century and a vital fifty -- and made a crucial 34 in the final where India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets on April 2 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Back then, Dhoni &amp; Co. beat teams such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, etc. to win the coveted title for the second time in Indian cricket's history.

Talking about the CWC '23 edition, Rohit-led India will open their campaign on October 08 in Chennai where they face Australia. They will go hard for their third 50-over mega title and Kohli will be desperate to lead the batting department with aplomb. The 34-year-old, with over 25,000 international runs in 501 games, along with 76 hundreds, will be the go-to batter for the Men in Blue.

My career highlight is winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, says Virat Kohli ahead of Asia Cup, CWC '23

The ICC ODI World Cup is coming to India after a gap of 12 years and India skipper Rohit Sharma wants to make full use of the opportunity, unlike last time. Rohit was left out of the 15-man squad that played the World Cup in 2011. During the last edition, however, Rohit topped the run charts as he amassed 648 runs but India failed to reach the final.

With the 2023 edition just about over a month away, Rohit wants to get back to the 2019 phase when he was in a 'great frame of mind' which showed in his numbers. Rohit, notably, averaged 81 in the 2019 edition in nine matches and had hit five hundreds as well with a high score of 140.&nbsp;

"For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or not negatively," Rohit told news agency PTI in a recent interview. "I want to shut out everything. I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup. I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament."

"I was in good shape, good mindset," he said. "I want to bring that back and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine," he added.

Speaking about what does he think about the legacy he might leave behind, Rohit said, "I am not the person who thinks about what kind of legacy I will leave behind. My legacy will be for people to judge and talk about, not for me to say. I am not a firm believer in numbers. You should be happy and enjoy the time you have in front of you and try to live in that moment."

The ODI World Cup will be played from October 5 to November 19 and India, being the home team, are considered one of the favourites alongside defending champions England.

CWC '23: India skipper Rohit wants to get back to '2019 frame of mind' ahead of quadrennial event

Team India, under Rohit Sharma, is set to kick off their Asia Cup 2023 campaign on September 02 when they face arch-rivals Pakistan in Pallekele, Sri Lanka. The continental tournament gets underway on Wednesday (August 30) with co-hosts Pakistan locking horns with Nepal in Multan. After the Asia Cup, to be held in the ODI format, the 50-over World Cup will take place, in India, starting on October 05.

Prior to the Asia Cup and CWC '23, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on Virat Kohli and pointed out where he becomes 'valuable' for Rohit &amp; Co.&nbsp;

<h2>'I expect Virat to have a great World Cup'</h2>

Speaking to&nbsp;Star Sports&nbsp;in the lead-up to the 50-over Asia Cup, Manjrekar was optimistic of Kohli having a great run in the upcoming World Cup.&nbsp;"Great player who has had a great journey. But people change, players change and skills change as well. At this stage, you see that Rohit Sharma, his greatest skill and impact is visible in Test cricket. I expect Virat to have a great World Cup," Manjrekar mentioned.

Further, Manjrekar added, "With his current state of play, you would think that 50-overs is just the right format for him. On the big stage, he has done it for India on many occasions. You get excited about many young and rising players. But on a big night, we need a player, who has been there, done that. That is where Virat becomes so valuable for India."

To back Manjrekar's claims, the two-time ODI world champions India will bank on Kohli's experience as they aim to lift the forthcoming ICC event, to be held on home soil. Back in the 2011 edition, co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and eventual runners-up Sri Lanka, the MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue ended as the champions with a young Kohli part of the historic squad.&nbsp;

Thus, Kohli's experience of having won an ODI World Cup will be essential not only for captain -- who was snubbed for the 2011 edition -- but for the entire Indian unit. At present, the 34-year-old will hope for a miraculous campaign in the continental tournament, which kicks off on Wednesday.&nbsp;

A good run in the Asia Cup will keep Kohli in terrific mindset before the World Cup commences.

This is where he becomes so valuable: Manjrekar on Virat Kohli ahead of India's Asia Cup, CWC '23 campaigns

Rohit Sharma-led India are gearing up for a litmus test in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be hosted jointly by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The continental tournament gets underway on August 30 with Pakistan hosting Nepal in Multan whereas the Men in Blue will open their campaign versus arch-rivals Babar Azam-led Men in Green on September 02 in Pallekele in the Island nation.

The Asia Cup holds a lot of significance as it will soon be followed by the 50-over ODI World Cup&nbsp;on home soil, which starts on October on 05 in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;Thus, the upcoming two multi-nation events will certainly define Rohit's captaincy tenure.

While India have a strong squad for the Asia Cup, Rohit-led Indian team management have a lot of decisions to make. The comeback duo, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be closely monitored in the Asia Cup and their run will help the team decide whether to include them in the CWC '23 edition or not. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if Yuzvendra Chahal makes the cut in the World Cup squad, having been overlooked for the Asia Cup.&nbsp;

Recently, Rohit stated that it's not about his favourite or coach Rahul Dravid's&nbsp;favourite to be in the squad but to get the players who will fit the&nbsp;conditions and team combination. Speaking to PTI, Hitman said, "Me, coaches, and selectors, take into account all factors like opposition, surfaces, our strengths, their weaknesses, and then reach a common ground. There is every chance that we will not be perfect always. At the end of the day, few individuals make decisions, and we are bound to make mistakes as humans. We won't always be right."

Hitman further opined, "'We have tried to communicate with the players after every selection and playing XI that has been announced. We talk to them face to face, one-on-one why they have not been picked. Sometimes, I try and put myself in their shoes. When I wasn't picked in 2011, it was such a heart-breaking moment for me and I felt what was left after being dropped from a World Cup squad?"

<h2>'I remember Yuvraj calling me to his room and....'</h2>

Rohit recalled the time when he was dropped for the 2011 ODI World Cup. He revealed how former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh helped him overcome the slump. "I was sad and sitting in my room and didn't know what to do next. I remember Yuvi calling me to his room and taking me out for dinner," Rohit asserted.

''He explained to me how it feels when you are left out. He told me, 'the best thing is that you have so many years in front of you. As we play in the World Cup, you take this chance to work hard on your game, and skills and make a comeback. There is no way that you won't play for India or not get a chance to play in the World Cup'."

Despite not being part of Dhoni-led India's victorious campaign in 2011, Rohit has redeemed himself in style and was the leading run-getter in the 2019 edition (648 runs with five hundreds). He will look for another prolific campaign in the forthcoming edition and help India lift the mega title at home.

It is to be noted that the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selectors have to name India's&nbsp;provisional World Cup squad&nbsp;in a week's time.&nbsp;

'The best thing is....': Indian captain Rohit Sharma recalls Yuvraj Singh's words after CWC '11 snub

With Asia Cup 2023 around the corner, Pakistan have taken the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings after beating Afghanistan 3-0 in the ODI series. Being one of the two hosts, Pakistan have good chances to going all the way in the Asia Cup. The ICC ODI World Cup is also shortly after the regional tournament and Men In Green would like to carry their form in the quadrennial event as well.

Speaking after the match, Pak skipper Babar Azam said that the momentum they have gotten here will give them confidence in the Asia Cup.

"We are excited going into the Asia Cup. The manner of our series victory over Afghanistan will serve us well in the tournament. It wasn't as easy against Afghanistan as some people think. Everyone is aware of their spin prowess. The momentum we gained in this series will give us confidence in the Asia Cup. We are hopeful of producing good cricket for our fans," Babar told PCB Digital.

"When you achieve the number 1 position, it gives you a lot of joy and satisfaction. This is the result of the efforts that the entire squad, including the support staff, put in. We were on top of the ODI rankings earlier but dropped to Number 2 after losing a game," he added.

The regional tournament, which is being played in 50-over format as a precursor to ODI World Cup, will start from August 30 when Pakistan take on Nepal. Another continental giant, India, will start their campaign against Babar Azam's men on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup: Pak skipper Babar Azam hopes momentum from Afghanistan series helps them in regional tournament

England cricket team’s preparations have suffered a major setback as star bowler Josh Tongue has suffered an undisclosed injury that has seen him ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand. Tongue, hopeful for a debut in the New Zealand series has joined John Turner on the casualty list as they miss out on the shortest format of the game. Chris Jordan has been drafted in as a replacement for Tongue as he continues his recovery.

<h2>Josh Tongue misses out</h2>

"The T20 squad has been picked with a view to having a look at a few other guys. England's white-ball captain. That's been communicated [to Mills and Jordan] as well. We want to try and broaden that talent pool and expose some people to international cricket to see where they're at,” said England captain Jos Buttler.

Tongue had a promising start to his international career when he made his debut in the Test setup. He featured in the only Test against Ireland in June while also earning a surprise call-up to the Lord’s Test against Australia in the Ashes 2023. He has 10 wickets in two matches for the national team and his impressive spell in the Test and The Hundred saw him in the reckoning for the T20I set-up.

"Death bowling is obviously a big focus in short-form cricket and we want to see where certain people are at, and give them a chance. Of course, no one's ever ruled out, but in terms of needing extra motivation, every player should always be motivated in my eyes."

The injury comes at the wrong time for the talented bowler as it will keep him away from The Hundred’s Eliminator clash against Southern Brave for Manchester Originals. He had an impressive stint with the team in The Hundred but now faces time out before he can feature.

<h2>ODI World Cup plans</h2>

Although the signs have been encouraging for Tongue, he is unlikely to make the ODI World Cup squad. The selectors panel led by former all-rounder Luke Wright has shown faith in Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes. They have opted not to pick up Jofra Archer for the New Zealand series, which is a prime indicator that England are focusing on the future.

ENG vs NZ T20I Series: Josh Tongue ruled out through injury, Chris Jordan roped in as replacement

England’s limited-overs skipper Jos Buttler has urged Harry Brook to not give up for a place in the national team for the ODI World Cup despite his omission from the squad. Brook, dropped for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, smashed a 41-ball ton in The Hundred as he made a statement to the selectors on Thursday, August 24. The sensational all-rounder was dropped from the England squad in favour of Ben Stokes, with the expectation of the same 15-member team set to feature in the World Cup.

<h2>Buttler urges Brook</h2>

"There's still a long time before everyone is meant to get on the plane, so we'll wait and see what happens," Buttler said after Brook’s statement hundred.

"We all know Harry's a fantastic player and we saw what he can do the other night. It's not like it's a surprise: we know what a brilliant player he is, he's just the unfortunate one at the moment to not be in that squad at the moment,” Buttler added.

Brook was a surprise exclusion from England’s team for the New Zealand series that could see him miss out on the World Cup. However, Buttler thinks there is still time for the Northern Superchargers man to come into the team as he has great potential to make a mark. The 24-year-old scored an unbeaten 105 from 42 deliveries against Welsh Fire.

Stokes has returned to the England side for the time in a year after initially announcing his retirement from the game. He will be part of the England squad for the New Zealand tour while he is all but guaranteed a place in the squad for the World Cup.

<h2>Ben Stokes in contention</h2>

"Of course, Ben Stokes coming back and being available just as a batter sort of changes the dynamic a little bit. Ben's a fantastic player to be able to welcome back, so it's a really tough selection."

England are hopeful of naming the same 15-member squad for the World Cup before the September 5 deadline. If this is the case Brook will miss out on a place in the team, having featured prominently in the T20 World Cup success in 2022 in Australia.

England’s limited-overs skipper Jos Buttler has urged Harry Brook to not give up for a place in the national team for the ODI World Cup despite his omission from the squad.

Buttler urges Brook "There's still a long time before everyone is meant to get on the plane, so we'll wait and see what happens," Buttler said after Brook’s statement hundred. Ben's a fantastic player to be able to welcome back, so it's a really tough selection." England are hopeful of naming the same 15-member squad for the World Cup before the September 5 deadline. If this is the case Brook will miss out on a place in the team, having featured prominently in the T20 World Cup success in 2022 in Australia. Jos Buttler urges Harry Brook not to give up on ODI World Cup berth, says 'there's still a long time to go'

Former India coach Sanjay Bangar warned Team India to consider KL Rahul in the Playing XI only if he is fit to play as a wicketkeeper-batter. The veteran Indian star returned to the team for the Asia Cup 2023 as he tries to prove his fitness for the upcoming ODI World Cup. However, there are doubts over Rahul’s fitness as few predict he won’t be able to keep wickets.

<h2>Bangar opines on Rahul’s role</h2>

"I think keeper batter because no one bowls in the top 5 of Team India, so it means if you want 6 bowling options you should have a player in your top 5 who can bowl or he should be a wicket-keeper batsman. So, I feel if KL Rahul plays the role of a wicket-keeper batsman, I believe then only he should be considered in the playing XI because in that way the team's balance will be maintained," Bangar told Star Sports.

According to Bangar, India should consider players with utility roles in the Playing XI who offer batting and bowling options. The Indian team’s utility factor could play a major role in determining the team’s success during the World Cup. For Rahul, he thinks he should come into the team as a wicketkeeper-batter and offer more to the team.

India have the services of Ishan Kishan, who is most likely to make the ODI World Cup squad as a backup if not first-choice wicketkeeper. Kishan is in great form for the team and offers batting along with donning the keeping gloves. India already have players like Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli as only batting options and are not relying on their bowling services.

<h2>Who could miss out on World Cup squad?</h2>

Currently, the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup will have to prove their worth before it is trimmed to 15 players for the ODI World Cup. The deadline to announce the World Cup squad is soon approaching as the selectors are keeping a close eye on the developments of Shreyas Iyer and Rahul. The selectors are likely to drop one batter and one bowler from the Asia Cup squad to make the final World Cup contingent.

If both Rahul and Iyer prove their fitness in the Asia Cup, Tilak Varma looks to be the natural option to be dropped for the World Cup while Prasidh Krishna could also have to sit at home for the big event in India.

CWC 2023: Former coach worried over batting balance in middle order, says 'if KL Rahul plays the role...'

Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has predicted the highest run-getter in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023&nbsp;being held in India. The forthcoming mega event will kick off in the subcontinent on October 05 with the defending champions Jos Buttler-led England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad whereas hosts Rohit Sharma-led India face Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.

Kallis, a legend who represented South Africa in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is, feels England captain Buttler will end up as the leading run-scorer in the upcoming edition. In the last edition, in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma ended with 648 runs -- most by any batter.

"I think Jos Butler will be the leading run scorer. An outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions. Along with England having a good World Cup, I think, um, me, he's going to be the one guy that stands up," said Kallis while speaking to the ICC.

Buttler has played 165 ODIs for the Three Lions, scoring&nbsp;4,647 runs at a strike rate of&nbsp;117.97 along with 11 tons and 24 fifties. He has a lot of experience of playing in India, thanks to his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he plays for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Overall, he&nbsp;has scored 3,223 runs from 96 IPL matches, at an impressive strike-rate of 148.32.&nbsp;

However, Buttler doesn't have a good ODI record in India -- having managed&nbsp;83 runs in eight matches so far at an average of&nbsp;11. Thus, he has a task to improve his record and help England successfully defend their title. The one-time winners have a plethora of superstars in their line-up, such as Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, etc. Having already led England to the championship in his only ICC event as captain, during the 2022 T20 World Cup, Buttler will feel confident leading the English line-up in the upcoming big-ticket event.

Other batters who can end up as the highest run-getter in CWC '23 are Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Babar Azam, Quinton de Kock, David Warner, etc.

CWC '23: SA legend Jacques Kallis predicts THIS English star to be the leading run-getter

Former India player Saba Karim has backed Sanju Samson for a place in the ODI World Cup despite his omission from the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The Indian team selected for the Asia Cup on Monday, August 21 saw the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer in the squad. Samson's omission&nbsp;paved the way for the return of Rahul, but according to Karim, he is still in the reckoning for the ODI World Cup owing to any fitness issues surrounding Rahul.

<h2>Karim backs Samson</h2>

"Sanju Samson remains in the reckoning. In case KL Rahul is not fit, then who do the selectors look at? So Samson comes in as a replacement for KL Rahul," Karim said. "So that is why those 40 valuable runs in the 2nd T20I outing at number four was a huge positive for India."

Samson has endured a mixed fortune in recent times that has seen him score one fifty since his return to the national side for the West Indies. He has been unfortunate not to have batted at times while he missed out on scoring big during the West Indies and Ireland tour. However, with competition for a regular wicketkeeper, Samson remains in the reckoning for a spot in the team. The Indian team has three options in the wicketkeepers department Ishan Kishan, Rahul, and Samson.

Currently, Samson is down the pecking order behind Ishan and Rahul, but the latter’s fitness will remain a key factor. If Rahul is not fully fit for the ODI World Cup, Samson remains the obvious choice to make the Indian team. However, if both Ishan and Rahul make the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup, Samson will probably miss out on the plane.

<h2>Prasidh Krishna to miss out on ODI World Cup?</h2>

Karim has also not ruled out Prasidh Krishna from the ODI World Cup as he thinks he has a better chance of making the squad. Unlike Samson, Krishna is in the Asia Cup squad, but close sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suggest he and Tilak Varma will be trimmed to finalise the ODI World Cup squad.

"Plus Prasidh Krishna, as we have always talked about, good to see him come back. I think this season, this series performance compared to last year when India toured Ireland was much better," said Karim.

The selector’s panel led by Ajit Agarkar will have to announce the ODI World Cup squad before the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) deadline of September 5.

CWC 2023: Former India player backs Sanju Samson for ODI World Cup berth despite Asia Cup omission

Rohit Sharma-led India&nbsp;will start their campaign in the 50-over World Cup on October 08, in Chennai, when they play Australia. India is&nbsp;hosting&nbsp;the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which gets underway on October 05 in Ahmedabad. Rohit &amp; Co. have a herculean task to end India's ten-year-long ICC title drought and replicate MS Dhoni-led India's historic run in the 2011 edition when they won the coveted title after 28 years.&nbsp;

Recently, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir -- who played a pivotal role in Dhoni-led India's title run in 2011 -- schooled the social media users for being individual-obsessed as they don't give the entire Indian team enough credit for the championship win on home soil. During a freewheeling chat with RevSportz, Gambhir said, "Do we celebrate Yuvraj Singh enough for what he did in the 2011 World Cup with all the health concerns he had? Do we celebrate Zaheer Khan’s opening spell enough? To start off a World Cup final with four maiden overs is incredible, and yet he isn’t given enough credit."

"Do we celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s efforts enough? Yes, we celebrate him and the win, but how many remember he was the highest scorer in the World Cup with two hundreds to his name? Do we celebrate Harbhajan Singh’s spell against Pakistan in Mohali, or Suresh Raina’s innings against Australia in Ahmedabad and Pakistan in Mohali? Both these innings were match-winning efforts,"&nbsp;Gambhir further stated.

<h2>'While we celebrate MS Dhoni’s innings, we should celebrate these other efforts too'</h2>

Gambhir schooled the social media fans and pointed out their individual obsession and added, "While we celebrate MS Dhoni’s innings in the final, we should celebrate these other efforts as much. Not one innings could win India the trophy. It was a collective effort, and should be celebrated as such. It is because of social media that we don’t do it. Social media is biased and we all know that."

"But social media doesn’t make it the truth. There is always a tendency on social media to celebrate individuals more than the team. In doing so, what happens is we don’t celebrate key performers who had as much a part to play. And that’s an issue for sure. All I will say is we should celebrate the entire team. While we celebrate Dhoni, we should also celebrate the others who all played very important roles in the Indian win," he concluded.

Talking about the CWC '11 edition, India beat teams such as Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka (in the final), etc. to win the championship at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 02. Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj (Player-of-the-Series), Virat Kohli and Raina played a solid part with the bat whereas Zaheer Khan, R Ashwin, Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra, etc. also had an important part to play with the ball. Dhoni, who struggled throughout the tournament with the bat, saved his best for the summit clash as he came up with a match-winning 91 not out in India's chase of 272 versus the Islanders.

Gambhir recalls Dhoni's CWC '11 final knock, schools social media users for being individual-obsessed

Pakistan cricket team is riding high on their massive win over Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series opener, where they won the first game by 142 runs. Babar Azam-led Men in Green are taking the ongoing ODIs versus the Afghans as an ideal platform to test themselves ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup,&nbsp;which commences on August 30, and the continental tournament will be followed by the ODI World Cup in India, starting on October 05. Many former cricketers believe Babar &amp; Co. are one of the strongest contenders for both the upcoming multi-nation events.

Ahead of Pakistan's run in the Asia Cup and CWC '23, former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif backed his national side but also issued a warning.

"Pakistan have a great chance (in the World Cup). They have a very potent fast bowling unit. However, it gets neutralised on turning pitches. When it comes to batting, the performances of Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, and Babar Azam have been very good. Then there are Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz. These guys seem to be automatic choices for Pakistan," Latif told&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan.

The former Pakistani cricketer further took a dig at India but feels Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can give an edge to their team over Pakistan. "When you look at India or the other teams, they are struggling. India are struggling with their middle order. I believe Pakistan have a wonderful chance, and they should win the tournament by giving others a tough fight," Latif opined.

<h2>'Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are capable of playing big knocks'</h2>

He added, "Out batters are a bit slow during the powerplay, and we don't have power hitters for the death overs. While we are very good with the ball in the powerplay, the main issue is the phase between the 11th and the 40th over. Our spinners haven't been able to take wickets in that period, be it Shadab Khan or Mohammad Nawaz. India, on the other hand, are very strong in the middle overs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are capable of playing big knocks, and they play at a better strike rate than our top-order batters, which gives India an advantage."

At present, Pakistan are playing Afghanistan in the second and penultimate ODI, in the series being held in Sri Lanka, on Thursday (August 24) at Hambantota. They are the second-ranked ODI side at present and have a chance to create history by winning the Asia Cup as well as the ODI WC in India. They kick off their Asia Cup campaign on August 30 in Multan, Pakistan and will lock horns with Rohit-led India on September 02 in Pallekele as the tournament will be jointly held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

In the 50-over World Cup, Babar &amp; Co. commence their campaign on October 06 when they face the Netherlands in Hyderabad.&nbsp;

Pakistan cricket team is riding high on their massive win over Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series opener, where they won the first game by 142 runs. Babar Azam-led Men in Green are taking the ongoing ODIs versus the Afghans as an ideal platform to test themselves ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, which commences on August 30, and the continental tournament will be followed by the ODI World Cup in India, starting on October 05. Many former cricketers believe Babar & Co. are one of the strongest contenders for both the upcoming multi-nation events. These guys seem to be automatic choices for Pakistan," Latif told Cricket Pakistan. While we are very good with the ball in the powerplay, the main issue is the phase between the 11th and the 40th over. Our spinners haven't been able to take wickets in that period, be it Shadab Khan or Mohammad Nawaz. India, on the other hand, are very strong in the middle overs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are capable of playing big knocks, and they play at a better strike rate than our top-order batters, which gives India an advantage." At present, Pakistan are playing Afghanistan in the second and penultimate ODI, in the series being held in Sri Lanka, on Thursday (August 24) at Hambantota. In the 50-over World Cup, Babar & Co. commence their campaign on October 06 when they face the Netherlands in Hyderabad. 'Rohit, Kohli capable of big knocks': Ex-Pak captain warns Babar & Co. ahead of Asia Cup and CWC '23

Former India chief selector Kris Srikkanth has hailed the potential of talented youngster Tilak Varma after a mature showing in his debut series against the West Indies in July and August. However, the legendary former opener feels Varma should not be in the Playing XI for the World Cup as he lacks experience and should be groomed in the ODI series against big teams. Varma scored 173 runs in five T20I matches during the West Indies tour before getting a reality check in Ireland with just one run in two innings.

<h2>Kris Srikkanth’s take on Tilak</h2>

"Tilak Varma, the point that I'm making was also conveyed by Ganguly. Don't give him a debut in a big tournament. First, let him play a few ODI series. Ganguly also had the same point of view."

"Tilak Varma has fantastic potential. Tilak Varma is a brilliant player. But don't let him be in the playing lineup for the World Cup. Let him play in a few ODI series and then the upcoming T20 World Cup and groom him till the next ODI World Cup. There is something called grooming a youngster."

After bursting onto the scene during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, Tilak Varma has attracted the attention of the cricketing fraternity. He was a surprise inclusion in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 and is also in the fray to be a part of the ODI World Cup.&nbsp; The Mumbai Indians star was touted for a call-up to the Indian team after impressing in IPL 2023 as well.

<h2>Could Varma make World Cup squad?</h2>

Currently, the southpaw is down the pecking order and is likely to miss out on a place in the squad for the Asia Cup. The selectors'&nbsp;panel led by Ajit Agrakar is likely to go with the same Asia Cup squad for the World Cup, with a couple of players missing out. Varma looks like the likely option as he comes in as a third-choice backup&nbsp;in the middle order.

Varma along with Prasidh Krishna are likely to miss out on the ODI World Cup squad, but&nbsp;any injury to any player from the proposed squad could see the doors open for them. India’s squad for the ODI World Cup will be announced before September 5.
