The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed plans for entry into the ODI World Cup venues as they will not use e-ticket entries for the showpiece event. Board secretary Jay Shah in the brass body meeting on Thursday, July 27 confirmed that there will be 7 to 8 centers for physical ticket redemption. The board is also in the final stage to finalise the ticket sale partner for the ODI World Cup as the countdown has already begun for the marquee tournament.

<h2>Jay Shah confirms plans</h2>

We can't use e-tickets this time around but will ensure to have physical ticket redemption at 7-8 centers well in advance. But physical ticket needs to be retained," Shah said on the entry procedure for the ticket sale.

"It will get difficult to manage e-tickets at high-capacity venues like Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Our plan is to start using e-tickets more in bilaterals first and then take it to multi-nation events like the World Cup," the BCCI secretary went on to add," he added.

According to the BCCI, it is difficult to manage the e-ticket entries into the stadium, especially for an event like ODI World Cup. The board plans to use the e-ticket entries in future bilateral series and tournaments when the procedure becomes less complex.

The BCCI faced criticism during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season when there was a lack of e-tickets at the venue. This led to overcrowding at the big venues as there were no redemption centers at the venues. The board aims to carry out a smooth fan experience with the World Cup 10 little over two months away.

BCCI also plans to resolve the issue of ticket sales as they are yet to be made available for the fans. The board will soon announce the dates for the ticket sale as they are in the final stage of finalising a ticket sale partner.

The ODI World Cup will kick start on Thursday, October 5 with a repeat of the 2019 final as defending champions England take on New Zealand. India’s first match of the tournament will take place on Sunday, October 8&nbsp;in Chennai while the match that is likely to attract the highest ticket sale will be the India vs Pakistan contest that will be contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 15.

Fans to collect World Cup 2023 tickets from counters, BCCI to avoid using e-ticket despite online bookings

England could be handed a major boost ahead of the ODI World Cup as star bowler Jofra Archer is “on course” for a return to the national side, according to his Sussex coach Paul Farbrace on Wednesday, July 26. Archer, pivotal in England’s 2019 World Cup triumph, has been out of the national set-up with several elbow operations and suffering a stress fracture of the back. However, according to the latest developments, he could be available for selection as the defending champions will head to India to defend their crown in October.

<h2>Archer to return?</h2>

"He is going well. I think he is on course for the World Cup, which is fantastic news,” Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace told the BBC.

Archer has been struggling with injuries in recent times and has spent more time on the treatment table than on the field. He was also ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2022 and played only five matches in the 2023 season. However, with nearly 10 weeks to go before the start of the World Cup in India, he will be a welcome addition to the side.

"He is going nicely," added Farbrace of the quickie who played the most recent of his 13 Tests in February 2021.

Archer last played for England in March during the Bangladesh tour in the limited-overs series while he has not played in the red-ball format since February 2021 against India in Ahmedabad. He has since been in and out of the side due to injury issues. However, he is now eyeing&nbsp;a place in the English team as they prepare to become just the third nation to defend the ODI World Cup after West Indies and Australia.

<h2>Archer’s dream 2019 World Cup</h2>

In the biggest moment of his cricketing career, Archer was tasked to lead England home in the Super Over of the ODI World Cup final in 2019. After the match ended in a tie, the Super Over finish saw Archer with the ball in hand as he helped England successfully defend the target in the one-over eliminator. Archer took Eoin Morgan’s side home with an inch-perfect Super Over as England won their first ODI World Cup in their own backyard.

The defending champions will start their World Cup journey on Thursday, October 5 in a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

ODI World Cup 2023: England handed major boost as Jofra Archer 'on course' for return, confirms coach Farbrace

After winning the two Tests 1-0, India will now face West Indies in the three-match ODI series opener on Thursday (July 27) in Barbados. Ahead of the series opener, captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media and opened up on the likely comeback of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah's last international match was in September 2022 and since then, he has been out of cricketing action due to injury concerns. He is at the National Cricket Acamdey (NCA) and is gearing up for a quick comeback, with the ODI World Cup to kick off on October 05 in India.&nbsp;

While Rohit mentioned that he is not aware of&nbsp;Bumrah's return, as per reports, he might feature in the Ireland T20Is next month. Rohit&nbsp;hopes he&nbsp;is able to play a few games before&nbsp;the ODI World Cup. Speaking to the reporters, he said, "The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he’s coming from a serious injury and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet."

<h2>'Hope he plays before the World Cup'</h2>

Hitman further added, "If he gets to play then it’s good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing. We’ll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment."

Along with Bumrah, India also awaits the return of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant before the 50-over showpiece event in India. While Pant is unlikely to feature in the mega event, Iyer and Rahul are expected to come back sooner than later as the duo are part of India's middle order.&nbsp;

Ahead of the ODI WC, India are set to play over ten games, including the Asia Cup and home ODIs versus five-time champions Australia. For now, they will aim to whitewash the Windies&nbsp;in the Caribbean.

We hope he plays before ODI World Cup: Rohit Sharma opines on Jasprit Bumrah as pacer eyes comeback

India vs Pakistan clash in the upcoming ODI World Cup could be rescheduled, according to the latest report, as both nations are in the final stage of their preparations. The clash is currently scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but could now face major changes as advised by the security officials. As per the report, the match will coincide with the Hindu festival of Navratri, which will begin on the same day as the India vs Pakistan contest.

<h2>What is the report?</h2>

The report was carried out by The Indian Express as it reported that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has called for a meeting on Thursday, July 27 where the issue will be discussed. Ahmedabad is one of the popular cities in India where Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

“We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,” a top BCCI official on conditions of anonymity was quoted as saying in the report.

The much-awaited clash between the two nations has been the focal point ever since the fixture list for the ODI World Cup was announced on June 27. The match is expected to be full-house, as a crowd of more than one lakh will be expected to flood the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, over-crowding could lead to security issues which the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI would want to avoid.

<h2>Jay Shah calls for a meet</h2>

It is reported that Jay Shah in a note to all the 10 host state associations for the World Cup has called for a meeting on Thursday to take stock of any issue, which needs to be taken care of or any decision that might be made. It is likely that the final call on the date of the India vs Pakistan match will be taken in the said meeting.

It will be expected that the match will remain in Ahmedabad as the state board has made all the necessary preparations for the contest. The fans have also booked their hotel rooms to witness the biggest cricket rivalry. As things stand, the Pakistan cricket team is yet to get clearance from their government to travel to India for the World Cup.

The ODI World Cup will start on Thursday, October 5 with England and New Zealand playing in the curtain-raiser.&nbsp;

ODI World Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan match likely to be rescheduled due to security reasons, reports say

Legendary former India captain Kapil Dev has termed Rohit Sharma’s men as favourites for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India as they prepare to add more trophies to their already impressive cabinet. Kapil on Tuesday, July 25 spoke on the Indian team’s approach while terming them favourites for&nbsp;the&nbsp;International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament. He also spoke on the fitness issue of the team and warned them to necessary precautions.

<h2>Kapil terms India favourites</h2>

"I don't know how it will pan out. They are yet to announce the team for the World Cup. India will always enter a tournament as favourites as it has been the case for a long time," Kapil said while in conversation with PTI.

India will be one of the favourites alongside Australia and defending champions England to win the World Cup that will get underway on October 5. Rohit Sharma will be tasked to take the Indian team home and could become just the third captain to lead the nation to a World Cup win after Kapil and MS Dhoni.

"It's all about how the team comes to terms with the expectations from all sides. We have won a World Cup at home, and I am sure the team, whoever gets selected, can do it again. A World Cup is coming in four years, and I hope the players will be fully prepared," Kapil added.

Kapil led India to the 1983 World Cup saw the country lift the prize asset at the expense of then world champions West Indies. Kapil’s army beat West Indies by 43 runs in the final and scripted history.

<h2>Fitness concerns</h2>

The 64-year-old however was concerned about the fitness regime and hopes there are not many complications as games will come thick and fast.

"My time was different as we hardly played so much cricket. Now, these players are playing some 10 months of cricket. So, managing your body is important to keep away from injuries. Everybody's body is different and they would require individual plans to preserve their fitness," the former skipper added.

India will start their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad. The final of the ODI World Cup will take place on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium with India hoping to add a third ODI World Cup title and first since 2011.

ODI World Cup 2023: Kapil Dev terms India 'favourites' for title, but raises concerns over fitness

England’s Adil Rashid has issued a stern warning to all the big teams before the start of the ODI World Cup as his side prepares to defend the title. Rashid, a member of the 2022 T20 World Cup winning squad, insists England’s cricket is at its peak and has more to offer before they take guard&nbsp;in India in October. England are the defending world champions in both T20 and ODI formats, but were unable to win the Ashes, having drawn the Manchester Test on Sunday, July 23.

<h2>Rashid throws warning</h2>

"We believe that this is not the end of it. We have that mindset of, yes, let's go beyond. Yes, we've created some kind of history, but we definitely want to push further on. Defending it and winning it again, that's the mentality,” Rashid said while in conversation during a press conference before the Hundred (premier competition in England).&nbsp;

"And we also know that there's more to come as well.”

England will step into the showpiece event with high ambitions under the captaincy of Jos Buttler as they try to become the third nation to retain the World Cup after West Indies and Australia. England won the ODI World Cup in 2019 in their own backyard beating New Zealand in the final.

Speaking about the team, Rashid insists the team has already cemented its legacy as one of the finest in history. According to him, even failure to win the World Cup in India won’t have any ramifications on the legacy of the current core.

<h2>Legacy still intact</h2>

"It already has, I reckon, has it not? I mean, two World Cup wins, back to back, holding both. In terms of World Cup squads, from 2015 to this day, I don't know if any England team has ever been any better in terms of winning series, in terms of going from No. 7 or 8 in the world, to No. 1.

"So as a squad, from 2015 until now, that era, I think we've definitely got the best England squad that's ever been,” Rashid added.

England in November 2022&nbsp;became the first nation to be the defending champions in both the T20 and ODI format. England won the 2022 T20 World Cup and added to their 2019 ODI World Cup success. Rashid scalped two wickets for 22 and was the best bowler in the final against Pakistan in Melbourne.

Rashid, a member of the 2022 T20 World Cup winning squad, insists England’s cricket is at its peak and has more to offer before they take guard in India in October. England are the defending world champions in both T20 and ODI formats, but were unable to win the Ashes, having drawn the Manchester Test on Sunday, July 23. Rashid throws warning "We believe that this is not the end of it. We have that mindset of, yes, let's go beyond. Yes, we've created some kind of history, but we definitely want to push further on. Defending it and winning it again, that's the mentality,” Rashid said while in conversation during a press conference before the Hundred (premier competition in England). "And we also know that there's more to come as well.” England will step into the showpiece event with high ambitions under the captaincy of Jos Buttler as they try to become the third nation to retain the World Cup after West Indies and Australia. England in November 2022 became the first nation to be the defending champions in both the T20 and ODI format. England won the 2022 T20 World Cup and added to their 2019 ODI World Cup success. Rashid scalped two wickets for 22 and was the best bowler in the final against Pakistan in Melbourne. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. ODI WC: England's Adil Rashid issues stern warning to opponents before big event, says 'there's more to come'

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star performer for Team India in their massive win over West Indies in the two-match Test series opener in Dominica. The left-hander started his Test career with an impressive 171 to become the 17th Indian to hit a century on Test debut, 113th overall. Jaiswal started on a promising note and never looked out of sorts to make a roaring start to his international career.&nbsp;

Ever since Jaiswal announced his arrival in style at the international level, talks are rife that he should be given a run in the white-ball formats as well. While India have only a handful of games left prior to the ODI World Cup's commencement, at home, some feel Jaiswal can still be tried in the 50-over format. Former Indian skipper and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has backed Jaiswal to be a part of the ODI WC squad. In conversation with the Telegraph on the young player, Ganguly heaped praise on the 21-year-old and feels he is a 'must' for the ODI WC squad.

“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” Ganguly emphasised.

It is to be noted that Jaiswal is not part of India's ODI squad for the West Indies tour. His name has been announced in the India squad for the 2023 Asian Games but looks unlikely to make the cut for this year's marquee ODI event on home soil. At present, the young batter is gearing up for India's second and final Test, to be held in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, which commences on July 20.

Rohit Sharma-led India will go for a series whitewash to also add vital points in their kitty in the new 2023-25 WTC cycle.

'Having him in ODI World Cup squad is a must': Sourav Ganguly calls for THIS young Indian star's inclusion

In a major development, the&nbsp;prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club's World Cricket Committee (WCC) has recommended the International Cricket Council (ICC) to 'substantially reduce' the bilateral men's ODIs following the conclusion of the 2027 World Cup.&nbsp;The committee has proposed the inclination towards bilateral ODIs only when they are within one year before every edition of the World Cup.

Over the years, a lot of questions have been raised about the plethora of bilateral ODI series being played across the globe. As not many of them draw much attention, the MCC feels there is a need to bring down the number of bilateral ODIs as it&nbsp;would&nbsp;mainly help in providing a much-needed&nbsp;space in the international cricketing calendar. The hectic international schedule has been the talk of the town for quite some time.

With Tests being prioritised by many current cricketers, along with the addition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the ever-increasing demand for T20Is, the onus has fallen on the ODI format; with several questioning its existence. In the recent past, many have questioned what exactly the format adds to an already-packed international calendar.

In this regard, the 13-member committee, led by former England captain Mike Gatting, is hopeful that "scarcity of ODI cricket would increase the quality&nbsp;achieved by removing bilateral ODIs, other than in the one year preceding each World Cup. This would, as a consequence, also create much-needed space in the global cricketing calendar."

<h2>'Test match financial audit'</h2>

Moreover, the MCC also raised concerns&nbsp;over the survival of Tests in nations outside the Big Three -- India, Australia and England. "The committee voiced particular concern for the survival of Test cricket in nations outside of India, Australia and England, with the associated impact brought about by a narrowing competition pool," mentioned the MCC release.

The committee has recommended that the ICC undertake a "Test match financial audit," which would, in turn, enable it to "identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme," after which "this need could be&nbsp;subsequently addressed via a separate Test match fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

The MCC further said, "The committee continues to hear of the growing unaffordability to host men's Test match cricket in many nations and concluded that the game currently lacks quantifiable data on the costs of hosting a Test match across its member nations. To address this lack of insight, it proposed a recommendation for the ICC to undertake a Test match financial audit to provide a clearer picture. This audit of operational costs versus commercial return would help the ICC identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme. This need could be subsequently addressed via a separate Test fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

<h2>Focus on developing women's cricket</h2>

On promoting women's cricket, the MCC release read, "It believes that the best way to support this objective is to establish a substantial and ring-fenced ICC Strategic Fund that can be allocated on a need-to-know basis to full member and associate nations that, amongst other key initiatives, fully commit to their women's pathway and national team."

MCC recommends ICC to cut down bilateral ODI series after 2027 World Cup

The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. An&nbsp;upcoming ICC meeting is set to take place in Durban, South Africa and the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is keen to push for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green to play their World Cup games at neutral venues. It is mainly because India didn't agree to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup&nbsp;to be held in August-September.

<h2>'Want neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup'</h2>

“Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. I want our World Cup matches at neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI.&nbsp;

Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The&nbsp;final decision&nbsp;will be taken by their&nbsp;government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

Only four matches&nbsp;of the Asia Cup 2023 edition will take place in Pakistan, allowing Babar &amp; Co.&nbsp;to take the field in front of their home fans only once. Thus, this has not been well received by the PCB, whereas their demands with regard to the venue changes for the ODI World Cup have&nbsp;also not been entertained.

Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are&nbsp;set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues&nbsp;in India.

Pakistan's schedule at CWC' 23

October 6: Pakistan vs Netherlands, Hyderabad
October 12: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Hyderabad
October 15: Pakistan vs India, Ahmedabad
October 20: Pakistan vs Australia, Bengaluru
October 23: Pakistan vs Afghanistan, Chennai
October 27: Pakistan vs South Africa, Chennai
October 31: Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Kolkata
November 4: Pakistan vs New Zealand, Bengaluru
November 12: Pakistan vs England, Kolkata

It remains to be seen if there will be any change with regard to the Asia Cup whereas Pakistan's participation in the ODI WC is also subject to clearance by their government.

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf to push for Pakistan to play ODI WC games at neutral venues during ICC meeting

Former India player Mohammad Kaif has backed the Indian team to shine in the upcoming ODI World Cup as they try to win their third world title under the stewardship of Rohit Sharma. The Indian team will walk into the ODI World Cup as one of the favorites as they host the tournament for the second time in 12 years. According to Kaif, the Indian team has all the tools in their arsenal to go all the way in the tournament.

<h2>Kaif asserts India’s favorites tag</h2>

“India's chances are quite bright because playing at home, we know the conditions better compared to other teams. Spinners might be able to play a bigger role. We have the players to win the tournament,” said Kaif while speaking on 'Virtual Encounters' on DD India.

The former India player was part of the golden generation of Indian cricket where he reached the final of the 2003 World Cup. India finished runners-up to Australia in that tournament where Kaif and company enjoyed a great run till the final. He however thinks India will have a good chance of lifting the coveted trophy as they also are hosts of the tournament.

“The challenging part for India will be that you need to have all the senior players ready, fitness-wise and form-wise. Bowling should be okay I guess. If we can bat well, we will be a tough side to beat. If we talk about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, all these senior players have to stand up and win matches,” Kaif added.

<h2>India to rely on big boys</h2>

India will have the services of great players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma going into the World Cup while they will be sweating on the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. India will also hope for the availability of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who both have missed action for the national side and in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

India will start their World Cup campaign on October 8 against Australia while they will play Pakistan in the high-voltage clash on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

India is the only team who will be playing in as many as nine venues, a different one for each game. Thus, the home side will have their task cut-out to meet the expectations of their ardent fans and go the distance in the tournament amid regular travel.&nbsp;

Rohit &amp; Co., who occupy the third spot in ICC ODI Rankings, will not play any day game. Thus, they will also have to take into consideration the dew factor at some venues. Overall, the Men in Blue are set to face a stern test in the league stage in order to enter the top four and go for their third title in the showpiece event.

The last time India hosted the ODI World Cup was back in 2011, when MS Dhoni-led co-hosts won the tournament. Indian fans will be desperate to see the national team replicate their 2011 success this time around as well. Given India's last ICC title win came in 2013, the pressure will be on Rohit &amp; Co.

Defending champions England will face New Zealand in the tournament-opener in Ahmedabad on October 05. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma-led India will open their campaign versus Australia, the five-time winners, in Chennai on October 08. They will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 15 and also have some tough battles ahead versus England, the Black Caps, etc. Also Read: OTD, in 2019: Rohit Sharma became first-ever batter to slam five tons in single edition of ODI World Cup Here's India's full schedule at the CWC'23 after SL, NED qualify Dates Fixtures Venues 08/10/2023 India vs Australia (D/N) Chennai 11/10/2023 India vs Afghanistan (D/N) Delhi 15/10/2023 India vs Pakistan (D/N) Ahmedabad 19/10/2023 India vs Bangladesh (D/N) Pune 22/10/2023 India vs New Zealand (D/N) Dharamshala 29/10/2023 India vs England (D/N) Lucknow 02/11/2023 India vs Sri Lanka (D/N) Mumbai 05/11/2023 India vs South Africa (D/N) Kolkata 11/11/2023 India vs Netherlands Bengaluru India is the only team who will be playing in as many as nine venues, a different one for each game. Thus, the home side will have their task cut-out to meet the expectations of their ardent fans and go the distance in the tournament amid regular travel. Rohit & Co., who occupy the third spot in ICC ODI Rankings, will not play any day game. Given India's last ICC title win came in 2013, the pressure will be on Rohit & Co. The decision comes after Tamim met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday, July 7 in the national capital and has now vowed to continue for the national side. He had earlier announced his retirement on Thursday after the senior team lost to Afghanistan by 17 runs in a rain-curtailed contest in Chattogram on Wednesday.

"Today afternoon, the Prime Minister invited me to her house. She admonished me and asked me to play again, so I have decided to come out of retirement at this moment," Tamim after a meeting with the prime minister.

Tamim Iqbal reverses retirement decision after meeting with PM Sheikh Hasina

Ahead of the marquee India-Pakistan clash in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, in India, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi feels that equal importance should be given to all other games as well and not just the one versus Team India. Afridi, who was the Player-of-the-Match in Pakistan's only World Cup win over India&nbsp;during the 2021 T20 World Cup, stated that his countrymen should treat the India game as only one match and their aim is to win the ODI World Cup title.&nbsp;

"We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that’s just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim," Afridi was quoted as saying in a report by&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan. Speaking about the India-Pak battle, the two teams will face off at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 15.

The tournament will kick off with defending champions England facing New Zealand on October 05, in Ahmedabad, whereas India will meet Australia in their opening game, on October 08, in Chennai. On the other hand, Pakistan will meet Qualifier 1 (either Netherlands or Scotland) on October 06 in Hyderabad.

Afridi, 23, is one of the most important players in Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. In the recent past, the speedster has been injured -- since the 2022 T20 World Cup final -- but is now fully fit and put on a splendid show in the Vitality Blast. He is now gearing up for Pakistan's two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka&nbsp;in the island nation, which starts on July 16. Ahead of the series opener, Shaheen revealed that he is fully fit.

Stop concentrating on India vs Pakistan: Shaheen Afridi says winning CWC'23 is Babar & Co's main aim

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, later this year in October-November. So far, India have been unbeaten versus their arch-rivals in the 50-over mega event. They enjoy a 7-0 winning streak over the Men in Green and Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be eager to keep their record intact as the two teams will meet at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October on October 15.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee clash, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly opined on the India-Pakistan games and made a big statement. Speaking to on Star Sports, Ganguly said, "There is a lot of hype in this match but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai."

Ganguly's remark made heads turn but he probably was talking about the Indo-Pak World Cup clashes. In both ODI and T20 WCs, India have been at their dominant best versus Pakistan. They lead Pakistan 7-0 in ODI WC and have a 6-1 lead in T20 WC history. However, Pakistan have made amends in the previous few face-offs. They beat India by 180 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy final and thrashed them by ten wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Moreover, the two sides met in last year's Asia Cup where both won a game each. The two encounters saw a last-over finish.

In addition, India and Pakistan played a humdinger in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where Virat Kohli's masterclass led to Men in Blue's thrilling win. Thus, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now reacted to Ganguly's remark.&nbsp;

<h2>'Ganguly is trying to play mind games'</h2>

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "I don't agree with him saying that India vs Pakistan matches are one-sided in favour of India. No doubt you have beaten us a lot in ICC World Cups before but that hasn't been the case since 2017. We beat India at the T20 World Cup in UAE and last year in the Asia Cup, won one, lost one. Yes, India defeated Pakistan at the T20 World Cup in Australia but that was purely because of Virat Kohli. He won it single-handedly. Clearly the best-ever T20 innings."

Further, Basit also responded to Ganguly claiming that India versus Australia games have better quality. Ganguly had stated, "India vs Australia tends to be a better game in the World Cup because the quality is better'. To this, the former Pakistani cricketer said, "He also said that India vs Australia is a bigger crowd puller than India vs Pakistan. To that, I would just want to say that 'Brother, when India plays Australia, are roads in your country empty? No. They are empty whenever there's an India-Pakistan match - both in India and in Pakistan. Everyone is glued to their TV screen and are praying. Look at the ticket prices for the World Cup; India-Australia costs are nowhere close to India-Pakistan's. So I feel that Ganguly - DADA ji - is just trying to play mind games."

It will be interesting to see what happens when the two sides meet in this year's ODI WC in India. Before they, they will also meet in the Asia Cup (possibly on three occasions). Overall, the arch-rivals have a chance to lock horns on five instances this year. Thus, some blockbuster games are on the cards.

He's playing mind games: Ex-Pak batter on Sourav Ganguly's 'IND-PAK matches are one-sided' remark

"We cannot come here and expect to be an elite team without preparation. You can't expect to wake up one morning and be a great team," said West Indies ODI skipper Shai Hope after his side's shocking seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Scotland in their first game of the Super Sixes of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers in Zimbabwe on July 01. With this loss, their third in a row, the two-time world champions succumbed to a new low. West Indies, the winner of the first two 50-over World Cups, bowed out of CWC'23 qualifiers. Thus, they have failed to grab a place in this year's ODI World Cup&nbsp;in India.

All the 90s kids heard innumerable tales of West Indies' envious bowling attack, who left the cricketing world in awe by mastering the Bodyline Bowling, as their predecessor generation took pride in sheding light on the Caribbean dominance. The late 70s saw West Indies become a formidable force that won the ODI World Cup twice in a row, under Clive Lloyd. A large part of their success was due to Sir Vivian Richards' mavericks. The ball left the bat in a jiffy from Richards' willow with him nonchalantly chewing gums and making a mockery of several bowling attacks.&nbsp;

In the following years, West Indies gave plenty to the world of cricket by introducing the likes of Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, etc. Later, the Kieron Pollards, Sunil Narines, Dwayne Bravos and more took the mantle forward as the Windies mastered T20Is, the most unpredictable format.

Slowly and steadily, the likes of Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes were replaced by Lara, Gayle, Pollard, etc. as West Indies remained relevant in white-ball format; although becoming a T20I specialist team from a once-dominant ODI force.

Sadly, nothing is clicking for them at present. Surely, West Indies cricket is at its lowest and their miraculous downfall has left cricket lovers in disbelief of their overwhelming success in the past,&nbsp;especially in ODIs. As the Windies have dominated the 50-over game in the past, it is shocking to see their downfall in the shorter format. However, their CWC'23 qualifiers' debacle has just put more light on their longstanding negligence to the format. Let us decode their CWC'23 qualifiers' struggles:

<h2>EXPLAINED: HOW WI's CWC'23 qualifiers' debacle was always on the cards</h2>

One of the main reasons for the West Indies' failures was their sloppy fielding. After the Scotland loss, Hope said, "The fielding is an attitude according to me, catches will be dropped and misfields will happen, that's part of the game and I feel that we did not give 100% effort every time, we did it in patches." Meanwhile, head coach Daren Sammy remained critical of his side's poor fielding efforts from the start of the tournament. Not the one to mince his words, Sammy labelled his side as the "worst fielding team".&nbsp; In their game versus Zimbabwe, Hope &amp; Co. dropped as many as five catches. Unacceptable!

Shamarh Brooks' illness along with&nbsp;Yannick Cariah's injury added to West Indies' woes. They were forced to tinker with their team combination and strategies. Cariah's absence meant they were without their only leg-spinner and couldn't capitalise on his pre-tournament form.

Some of West Indies' tactics made little sense to many. For example, Hope's decision to resort to Jason Holder in the Super Over versus Netherlands made heads turn. Holder's match figures were a decent 10-0-59-0. However, he has often been taken to the cleaners in the death overs. As a result, Dutchman&nbsp;Logan van Beek slammed him for 30 runs as the two-time winners lost the game.

Most importantly, the preparations in the run-up to the qualifiers, in Zimbabwe, were never up to the mark.&nbsp;As many as six out of&nbsp;the 15 that travelled to Zimbabwe - Kyle Mayers, Holder, Powell, Alzarri Joseph, Shepherd and Akeal Hosein - were not part of the Windies' series versus hosts UAE ahead of the qualifiers. Thus, it also meant that they interacted with their newly-appointed coach Sammy for the first time during the ICC tournament.&nbsp;

Moreover, West Indies' last bilateral ODI series win versus the current top seven teams -- notably India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England -- came way back in 2014. Their inability to be calculative with the bat, lack of match-winning spinners and dwindling fielding standards have forced them to fall as low as they have. Thus, the writing was on the wall for a long time. 2023 simply became the year where they made it official.&nbsp;

It is to be noted that West Indies have failed to make any mark in ICC events since their T20 World Cup 2016 triumph in India. In 2017, they could not participate in the Champions Trophy in England and Wales. In 2019, they won only two out of nine games in the ODI World Cup. They have failed miserably in the two cycles of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) in 2019-21 and 2021-23 respectively. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, they bowed out of the Super 12 round with a sole win (over Bangladesh). In the following edition, in 2022, Nicholas Pooran &amp; Co. were out of the qualifiers and the script remained the same in this year's ODI WC qualifiers.

Phew! West Indies' appetite for ODI success has gone down drastically. It still remains a tough pill to swallow but is one that was always coming.

Moreover, West Indies' last bilateral ODI series win versus the current top seven teams -- notably India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England -- came way back in 2014. Their inability to be calculative with the bat, lack of match-winning spinners and dwindling fielding standards have forced them to fall as low as they have. Thus, the writing was on the wall for a long time. 2023 simply became the year where they made it official. In the following edition, in 2022, Nicholas Pooran & Co. were out of the qualifiers and the script remained the same in this year's ODI WC qualifiers. Phew! West Indies' appetite for ODI success has gone down drastically. It still remains a tough pill to swallow but is one that was always coming.

Explained: How West Indies failed to bag an ODI World Cup ticket with debacle in the qualifiers

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team management to keep an eye on leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the ODI World Cup 2023. Chahal was part of Team India for the T20 World Cup held in Australia last year but did not get to play a single match. India were eliminated from the ICC tournament after losing to England in the semi-finals. Ganguly said that while India have good wrist spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, Chahal could play the key role for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

<h2>Sourav Ganguly on the importance of wrist spinners</h2>

“Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav are good spinners, but somehow Yuzvendra Chahal misses out on playing in a big tournament. He has been a consistent performer in the shorter formats of cricket, be it 20 overs or 50 overs. It is important to keep an eye on him,” Ganguly said during an interview.

The former BCCI president also said that SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia — find it difficult to face wrist spinners. Especially, when the match is in Indian conditions, it becomes more difficult for them. So, Chahal being a part of the playing XI will be important.

“When you go out to play against Australia, England or South Africa, a wrist spinner can make a difference in these conditions, as Piyush Chawla did in the 2011 ODI World Cup. He bowled really well,” Sourav Ganguly said. The former India captain also emphasised that whenever spinners have taken wickets in a World Cup, India has done well in the tournament.

Sourav Ganguly added that when India went to South Africa to play the T20 World Cup in 2007, it was the wrist spinners, who bowled well in tandem with fast bowlers. “Harbhajan Singh was in the playing eleven and I think in Indian conditions, retaining the wrist spinner will be crucial,” said Ganguly.

India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. India and Pakistan will clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

A gusty half-century by Dhananjaya de Silva and all-round efforts from Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga helped Sri Lanka overcome a valiant effort by the Netherlands in their ICC Cricket World Cup Super Six match on Friday.

Sri Lanka won by 21 runs and are at the top of the Super Six stage points table with six points. Netherlands are in fourth place with two points. Sri Lanka opted to bat first and did not have a good start, losing opener Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball.

They lost two more wickets in less than five overs. Ryan Klein trapped Kusal Mendis for 10, while van Beek removed Sadeera Samarawickrama in the very next over for just one run.

Van Beek picked up his third wicket in the seventh over and removed in-form Charith Asalanka for just two.

Sri Lanka lost half their team for 67. It was the big wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne, who was looking to rebuild and had put up a 33-run fifth-wicket stand with Dhananjaya de Silva. Dimuth managed 33 runs in 51 balls.

From that point, De Silva was the lone man standing for Sri Lanka as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Wanindu Hasaranga showed some promise with a couple of lofty blows but he too perished for 20. Maheesh Theekshana scored valuable 28 runs.

De Silva continued to resist and looked to up the ante smashing a six and couple of fours in one Shariz Ahmad over. He took Sri Lanka's score past the 200-run mark but fell just seven runs short of a hundred. His 111-ball knock had eight fours and two sixes.

The Netherlands bowled the Lankans out for 213 in the 48th over. This was Sri Lanka's second-lowest total against an Associate team.

van Beek (3/26) and Bas de Leede (3/42) were the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands struggled in the chase of 214 and lost their openers Vikramjit Singh and Max o'Dowd for a duck.

Wesley Barresi and Bas de Leede began the work of rebuilding for Netherlands and brought up a half-century stand for the third wicket. Barresi got his 7th ODI fifty as well.

The Dutch faltered after the wicket of Barresi (52 in 50 balls, with six fours and a six) and were soon five down, needing 87 runs to win. Leede also scored 41 in 53 balls, with three boundaries.

Maheesh Theekshana picked up two wickets in his fifth over to hit Netherlands further. But captain Scott Edwards refused to go down without a fight. He shared crucial stands with the lower order to give his team hope.

However, he was left stranded at the other end on 67* in 68 balls as the team fell 22 runs short of the desired target. The Netherlands were bowled out for 192 in 40 overs.

Theekshana (3/31) and Hasaranga (2/53) were the pick of the bowlers for SL.

Dhananjaya got the 'Player of the Match' for his fifty.

CWC Qualifiers: Sri Lanka overcome valiant Netherlands, win by 21 runs

Following his side's win over Oman in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine said 280-290 runs looked really good on the pitch when they came to bat and lauded centurion Sean Williams for helping the team get some more extra runs.

A century by Sean Williams and powerful bowling performances by Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara helped Zimbabwe overcome a valiant effort from Oman in the first match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 qualifiers at Bulawayo on Thursday as they defeated the visitors by 14 runs. "It was a tough game of cricket for us.

(On the score) When he started batting, we felt 280-290 was going to be a good score. When we started our bowling innings, we figured out the pitch was good to bat on. Thankfully Sean Williams produced a special innings to get us up to 330 (332). (On the bowling display) The wicket did seem quite a bit different to the morning. Our bowlers missed our lengths and our lines a little bit and made it easier for Oman," said Ervine in a post-match presentation.

It is quite tough to say (On what is a good score). You lose the toss and you get put into bat, the first 10 overs were quite a touch. We thought 280 was a good score. Obviously bowling second, we have to look at around 300-320. If the wicket is going to get better, you need a little bit extra to defend that. (Message to the team) We have been playing some really good cricket. I do not think we need to change too much. I thought today we still did our job extremely well. Two days to bounce back before we face Sri Lanka," he added.

Coming to the match, Zimbabwe was put to bat first by Oman. Sean Williams struck his third century of the tournament, scoring 142 in 103 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes. Luke Jongwe (43* in 28 balls, with four boundaries) and Sikandar Raza (42 in 49 balls, with six fours) put on good scores for Zimbabwe. The hosts put on 332/7 in their 50 overs. yt

Fayyaz Butt (4/79) was the pick of the bowlers for Oman.

In the chase of 333, an 83-run stand for the second wicket between Kashyap Prajapati and Aqib Ilyas (45 in 61 balls, with five fours) helped Oman keep up with the required run rate. Ayaan Khan (47 in 43 balls, with five fours), skipper Zeeshan Maqsood (37 in 40 balls, with three fours and a six), Mohammad Nadeem (30* in 18 balls, with four boundaries and a six) helped Oman pose a fight, but they fell 14 runs short, finishing at 318/9 in 50 overs.

Blessing Muzarabani (3/57) and Tendai Chatara (3/73) were the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe.

Sean won the 'Player of the Match' for his century.

With this, Zimbabwe has six points in their tally on the Super Six table and are at the top, while Oman is at the bottom. This was Zimbabwe's seventh ODI win in a row.

CWC Qualifiers: 280-290 looked good on this pitch, says Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine after win over Oman

On Tuesday (June 27), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, to be held in India in October-November. After the schedule was made official, the Pakisan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it requires clearance from the government to take part in the mega event in India. Now, the ICC has responded to PCB's statement and stated that they are confident of the 1992 winner's participation in the showpiece event in the subcontinent.

<h2>'We are confident Pakistan will be in India for CWC'23'</h2>

"Pakistan have signed a participation agreement to compete and we expect them to be there and have had no indications to the contrary," an ICC statement said on the matter. "All members have to abide by the rules and the laws of their country and we respect that. But we're confident Pakistan will be in India for the Men's Cricket World Cup," added the statement.

It is to be noted that the PCB&nbsp;statement came following the schedule announcement. "The PCB requires the Government of Pakistan's clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues. We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear something from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This position is consistent with what we had told the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared with us the draft schedule and sought our feedback," said the PCB statement.

The ODI World Cup schedule came out only 100 days before the tournament's commencement. As per reports, one of the main reasons for the delay was PCB's requests for venue changes. The Pakistani board wanted venues to be shifted for their games versus Afghansitan (Chennai) and Australia (Bengaluru). They wanted the venues to be swapped for the two games whereas they also raised concerns on playing India in Ahmedabad on October 15.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, none of PCB's reported requests were accepted as ICC and BCCI released the schedule earlier this week. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad on October 06 and meet arch-rivals India on October 15.&nbsp;

CWC'23: 'They have signed...' - ICC on Pakistan's participation in mega event in India

The ICC released the full schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (June 27). The schedule was revealed only 100 days prior to the tournament opener, which is set to take place on October 05. As per reports, a reason for the delay was due to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it raised concerns over playing at certain venues. For instance, it was reported that the Pakistani board wanted the venues for their games versus Afghanistan (in Chennai) and Australia (in Bengaluru) to be swapped and also objected to playing against India in Ahmedabad&nbsp;on October 15.

Nonetheless, the final schedule saw none of PCB's reported requests being taken into account. After the schedule was out, PCB made it clear that they are yet to get clearance from their government to play the ODI World Cup in India and they will inform the ICC once they get the nod. In this regard, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reacted to all the developments and slammed the board for asking for venue changes. In addition, he feels that Pakistan should stick to the venues offered -- as it can work to their advantage -- and are confident of the Men in Green's participation in the mega event.

<h2>'ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan'</h2>

"I am hearing on news channels and YouTube that Pakistan may not be willing to play their matches in Ahmedabad and one more venue. Why not? ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan. If 1,25,000 come to attend the match in Ahmedabad, the pressure is on India, and not Pakistan. If India was to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan, then the pressure would have been on Pakistan.

"I don't know why people can't understand this simple thing. And Afghanistan is a weak team - yes, they have good spinners - but wherever the schedule has been finalised, just play. This is nonsense. I keep hearing that Pakistan may not get the permission. Of course, they will. Boss, it's not some local tournament. It's a bloody World Cup," Basit said on his Youtube channel.&nbsp;

"Now the second part… the advantage which Pakistan has. Normally, each team will be playing two warm-up matches, but in Pakistan's case, they will technically be playing 4 – two practice games and one each against the two qualifying teams – before they face India in Ahmedabad. If Pakistan go into the India tie on the back of a formidable show against the four teams previously, it will be a huge boost for them and the players.

"Imagine Babar Azam scoring a century or Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah picking a five-wicket haul. Just imagine what it will do to their confidence against India. So it is my heartfelt request. Please play your matches as per the schedule."

Pakistan's schedule for ODI World Cup

September 29 - vs New Zealand in Hyderabad
October 03 - vs Australia in Hyderabad
October 6 - vs Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad
October 12 - vs Qualifier 2 in Hyderabad
October 15 - vs India in Ahmedabad
October 20 - vs Australia in Bengaluru
October 23 - vs Afghanistan in Chennai
October 27 - vs South Africa in Chennai
October 31 - vs Bangladesh in Kolkata
November 4 - vs New Zealand Bengaluru (Day match)
November 12 - vs England in Kolkata

Pakistan does have an easy schedule for the marquee event. They will play their two warm-up games in Hyderabad. In addition, their first two matches in the main draw are at the same venue before the mega face-off versus India on October 15&nbsp;in Ahmedabad. Overall, Babar Azam &amp; Co. will play their nine league matches across five venues – Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. On the contrary, India will play their nine league fixtures in as many different venues -- most by any side -- and, thus, will have to manage the workload of their players wisely.

For instance, it was reported that the Pakistani board wanted the venues for their games versus Afghanistan (in Chennai) and Australia (in Bengaluru) to be swapped and also objected to playing against India in Ahmedabad on October 15. 'ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan' "I am hearing on news channels and YouTube that Pakistan may not be willing to play their matches in Ahmedabad and one more venue. "I don't know why people can't understand this simple thing. And Afghanistan is a weak team - yes, they have good spinners - but wherever the schedule has been finalised, just play. This is nonsense. I keep hearing that Pakistan may not get the permission. Of course, they will. Boss, it's not some local tournament. It's a bloody World Cup," Basit said on his Youtube channel. Also Read: CWC'23: 'They have signed...' - ICC on Pakistan's participation in mega event in India "Now the second part… the advantage which Pakistan has. Please play your matches as per the schedule." Pakistan's schedule for ODI World Cup September 29 - vs New Zealand in Hyderabad October 03 - vs Australia in Hyderabad October 6 - vs Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad October 12 - vs Qualifier 2 in Hyderabad October 15 - vs India in Ahmedabad October 20 - vs Australia in Bengaluru October 23 - vs Afghanistan in Chennai October 27 - vs South Africa in Chennai October 31 - vs Bangladesh in Kolkata November 4 - vs New Zealand Bengaluru (Day match) November 12 - vs England in Kolkata Pakistan does have an easy schedule for the marquee event. They will play their two warm-up games in Hyderabad. In addition, their first two matches in the main draw are at the same venue before the mega face-off versus India on October 15 in Ahmedabad. Overall, Babar Azam & Co. will play their nine league matches across five venues – Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. On the contrary, India will play their nine league fixtures in as many different venues -- most by any side -- and, thus, will have to manage the workload of their players wisely. Ex-Pakistan player slams PCB's ODI WC requests, confident of Men in Green's participation

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be held in October-November in India. The schedule came out only 100 days before the commencement of the showpiece event. As per reports, the delay was mainly because of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asking the ICC and Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) to change the venues for two of their games. PCB wanted the venues for the games versus Afghanistan (Chennai) and Australia (Bengaluru) to be swapped.

In addition, PCB wanted Ahmedabad to be removed from hosting their marquee face-off versus India. Nonetheless, the draft schedule was approved with no tweaking.&nbsp;Now, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has lashed out at PCB for their unusual ODI WC request.&nbsp;

<h2>'You shouldn't say such things and instead, pull down the level of your cricket'</h2>

“Conditions, venues shouldn't be a concern for teams anymore. These things shouldn't happen in international cricket. Today, India beat Australia, South Africa, New Zealand on their own turf. We shouldn't be making excuses like why we are playing against Afghanistan in Chennai, or India in Ahmedabad. Your focus should be on cricket only,” Akmal said during an interview with&nbsp;paktv.tv.

“It's my request to board members, stop making such low-standard requests. The level of international cricket has advanced now. Players should be proud of their achievements, they should know what the fans and the board expect from them. You shouldn't say such things and instead pull down the level of your cricket,” Akmal added.

Pakistan will open their campaign versus Qualifier 1 on October 06 in Hyderabad whereas they are set to face arch-rivals India on October 15 in Ahmedabad. In the last edition, Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Men in Green ended fifth and failed to reach the semi-finals.&nbsp;

Under Babar Azam, the one-time winners will hope to go the distance and clinch their second title after 1992.

'Stop making low-standard...': Former Pakistan wicketkeeper lashes out at PCB for ODI WC requests

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since September 2022. He was part of India's home T20Is versus Australia, before the T20 World Cup, where his back injury recurred and, hence, he missed the remainder of 2022. Bumrah has missed all the cricketing series in 2023 as well and is now racing against time to recover ahead of Team India's ODI World Cup campaign, to be held in October-November this year on home soil.

As per a report in news agency PTI, Bumrah is recovering slowly and steadily and is now bowling seven overs per day at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Earlier, it was reported that Bumrah is eyeing to make his international comeback during India's three T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, in August before the Asia Cup. Nonetheless,&nbsp;nothing is known regarding the exact timeline for his comeback.

<h2>Bumrah is bowling seven overs per day at NCA</h2>

A source tracking Bumrah's development told PTI, "For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But it can be said that Bumrah is recovering well and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets. It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period. He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then."

"He should not be hurried. Playing practice matches at the NCA is a good step as it will help tune his body to the demands of a match. But he should be made to play in some actual (domestic) matches before bringing him to top level cricket. The demands of international cricket are different and the body should be absolutely ready to take that amount of workload. Recovering from stress fracture is a delicate exercise and Bumrah should be allowed maximum recovery time," he told the news agency.

At present, Rohit Sharma-led India have been dented with injury concerns. The likes of Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are recovering from their respective injuries. India open their campaign in the forthcoming ODI World Cup on October 08 versus Australia, in Chennai, whereas defending champions England will lock horns with New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad on October 05.

India face Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad whereas Mumbai and Kolkata will host the two semi-finals, respectively. Ahmedabad will host the final on November 19.

Jasprit Bumrah starts bowling as Team India pacer eyes return ahead of ODI World Cup: Report

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday (June 27), released the full schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year. As soon as the schedule got revealed, former cricketers and experts shared their take on it, predicted the top four, etc. Talking about Team India, the home side will kick off their campaign versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 08 with the tournament opener to be held on October 05, in Ahmedabad, between defending champions England and New Zealand.&nbsp;

At present, India have plenty of their star cricketers recovering from injuries -- such as Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Nonetheless, India still have a lot of firepower in their line-up with stars including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, etc. The two-time winners will hope to get off to a fine start in the ten-team tournament and go the distance with an aim to win the ODI World Cup after 2011, when MS Dhoni-led India won the championship on home soil.

Rohit, at 36, and Kohli -- who is 34 -- are in the twilight of their respective careers and, thus, the 2023 ODI WC is expected to be their last in the showpiece event or overall. In this regard, it is expected that the rest of the team will gear up to give their all for the superstar duo Rohit and Kohli. Sourav Ganguly, India's former captain and BCCI President, shared his take on Rohit and Kohli's future after the schedule announcement.

"I don't believe too much in last time, first time. I believe in performances. I think they are 34-35, I don't know what's going to happen in the next World Cup. There are world tournaments every year - T20 cricket, 50-over cricket. It's not like as in the past when we started - one every four years and then the Champions Trophy came in. So it's about performances and I am sure Rohit as captain and Virat will be wanting to make it a big one not from a personal point of view but from winning it. I think that's the biggest," Ganguly told&nbsp;Star Sports.

Rohit and Kohli have been the backbone of Team India's batting order across formats for over a decade. The two will be desperate to lead the charge once again and take India to the title later this year in the ODI WC.&nbsp;

Will it be curtains for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma after 2023 ODI World Cup? Sourav Ganguly shares his take

On Tuesday (June 27), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the much-awaited full schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, to be held in India in October-November. Defending champions England will open their campaign versus New Zealand whereas hosts India will face Australia, in Chennai, on October 08 in their opening encounter. After the schedule was out, former cricketers and experts opined on every team's chances and Kris Srikkanth, part of Kapil Dev-led India's 1983 ODI World Cup win, made a big statement.

Srikkanth believes India will miss Rishabh Pant's services, who is unlikely to regain full fitness after a horrific car accident on December 30, 2022. "We don't know the real truth about Rishabh Pant. Because Rishabh Pant, if he was playing, I would have straightaway said that India are the real favourites for the World Cup. But I think obviously, Rishabh Pant's fitness is questionable. Nobody knows how fit will he be before the World Cup. I doubt it. Many people doubt if he will play the 2023 World Cup. Otherwise, the Rishabh Pant factor would have been very crucial," said Srikkanth while speaking to India Today.

However, Srikkanth was quick to add that Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have enough firepower to go the distance in the showpiece event in India. "So I believe guys like KL Rahul (who is recovering from a thigh injury) should be back in the middle order. KL Rahul has been fantastic. We have Rohit Sharma opening with Shubman Gill. Then we have Virat Kohli, who has been fantastic in this format and he has been in form. I believe India has got the capabilities of winning the World Cup," said Srikkanth.

At present, Indian players such as Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are recovering from their respective injuries. While Pant is very much out of contention, as India would certainly not risk playing him soon even if he recovers fully, Rahul, Iyer and Bumrah are expected to regain fitness just before the ODI WC. In such a scenario, India will be in a tough spot as the trio won't be having enough game time heading into the World Cup.

India will open their campaign versus Australia, face Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad, New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamshala, England on October 29 in Lucknow and South Africa on November 05 in Kolkata apart from also facing Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the other two teams from the qualifiers.

If he was playing, would've said India are real favourites for ODI WC: Former Indian opener on star player

Two-time champions of the ODI World Cup, India will start their campaign against Australia on October 8 while their high-voltage clash against Pakistan will take place on Sunday, October 15. <h2>Rohit gears up for the World Cup</h2>

“It's going to be a great experience playing in the World Cup at home. India won here 12 years ago, and I know fans nationwide can't wait for us to take the field this time.

“This World Cup is going to be very competitive as the game has become faster and teams are playing more positively than ever before. All this augurs well for fans worldwide, promising them many thrilling moments.

“We look forward to preparing well and being at our best this October-November,” Rohit said while in conversation with bcci.tv.

India will be playing at nine different venues at the ODI World Cup this October and November with nine league matches on offer. The round-robin format will see India as one of the favourites to clinch the tournament. The last three editions of the ODI World Cup have been won by the host nations, including India in 2011. Rohit Sharma will look to replicate his form from the 2019 World Cup where he led the nation to the semifinal of the tournament.

<h2>Rohit’s incredible 2019 World Cup</h2>

In the 2019 edition of the World Cup, Rohit will be seen enjoying the form of his career as he struck five hundreds before India were eliminated in the semifinals stage by New Zealand. Rohit scored hundreds at four different grounds and ended as the tournament’s highest scorer with 648 runs in nine matches. The Mumbai Indians skipper missed one league match but still ended as the top scorer with an average of 81 and a best of 140 against Pakistan in Manchester. He also scored a fifty as well in the tournament to take his tally of fifty-plus scores to six.

<h2>Rohit Sharma's hundreds at 2019 World Cup</h2>

122 not out vs South Africa in Southampton

140 vs Pakistan in Manchester

102 vs England in Birmingham

104 vs Bangladesh in Birmingham

ODI World Cup: Rohit underlines big challenge before showpiece event - 'it is going to be very competitive'

A monstrous century by opener Paul Stirling followed by exceptional contributions from bowlers helped Ireland end their disappointing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 campaign with a 138-run consolation win over UAE at Bulawayo on Tuesday.

With this win, Ireland ends their group-stage campaign in fourth place in Group B, with one win and three losses. They have a total of only two points. UAE is at the bottom, having lost all of their four matches. In the chase of 350, UAE started off well with a 58-run opening stand between Muhammad Waseem (45 in 32 balls, with six fours and two sixes) and Aryansh Sharma (18). After the dismissal of Waseem, UAE lost some wickets quickly. They were reduced to 109/6 in 20.3 overs.

Then came a 70-run stand for the seventh wicket between Basil Hameed (39 in 52 balls, with three sixes) and Sanchit Sharma (44 in 54 with a four and three sixes). With the required rate getting higher, it did not keep them in the game, but atleast put UAE in a position to bow out of the tournament with a respectful score.

But their dismissals left UAE with very little firepower and they were bundled out for 211 in 39 overs.

Andy McBrine (2/34), George Dockrell (2/32), Josh Little (2/30) and Curtis Campher (2/14) were impressive with the ball for Ireland.

Earlier, put to bat first by UAE, Ireland posted a massive 349/4 in their 50 overs.

Paul Stirling's powerful century, a knock of 162 in 134 balls, with 15 fours and eight sixes largely powered the Irish innings.

He had a 183-run third wicket stand with skipper Andy Balbirnie (66 in 88 balls, with five fours and a six).

Harry Tector, the top-ranked Irish batter, continued his rich run of form with a knock of 57 in 33 balls. His knock had four boundaries and two sixes.

Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker and George Dockrell fired small, but impactful cameos in the end to take Ireland to a big score.

Sanchit Sharma (3/46) was the pick of the bowlers for UAE.

Stirling was given the 'Player of the Match' award for his century.

Earlier, half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka and an all-round effort from Maheesh Theekshana helped Sri Lanka defeat Scotland by 82 runs in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers match by 82 runs on Tuesday to end their group stage on high.

With this win, Lanka end at the top of Group B with four wins in four games and a total of eight points. On the other hand, Scotland ends in second place with three wins and a loss in four matches, which combines to total of six points.

Chasing 246 set by one-time champions, Scotland lost their wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 99/7 in 20.5 overs.

Christopher McBride (29) and skipper Richie Berrington (10) were the only players from top/middle-order to touch double figures. Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Theekshana did majority of the damage, including some help from skipper Dasun Shanaka, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara.

A 55-run stand between Chris Greaves (56 in 41 balls, with seven fours and two sixes) and Chris Sole (17) kept Scotland's hopes alive temporarily, but the experience of the former champions was just too much.

Scotland was bundled out for 163 in just 29 overs.

CWC Qualifiers: Stirling's ton powers Ireland to consolation win over UAE, Sri Lanka end group stage on high

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday (June 27), released the full schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 edition, to be held in India in October-November. Defending champions England will kick off the ten-team showpiece event by facing New Zealand in the tournament opener on October 05 in Ahmedabad, whereas hosts India will clash with Australia in their tournament opener on October 08 in Chennai. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will lock horns at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 15.

Rohit Sharma-led India will be looking to end their ten-year-long ICC title drought with a win in the ODI World Cup. They have a herculean task as India will play all their games at nine different venues. Speaking at the launch event on Tuesday, Virender Sehwag -- former Indian opener and 2011 ODI World Cup winner -- spoke at length about the 50-over mega event and called it the 'Olympics of cricket'.

<h2>'Nothing bigger than the World Cup'</h2>

Sehwag said, "For me, the World Cup is the best moment. I have reached the final once, won it once and crashed out without qualifying. So the journey has been up and down."

"The best were certainly 2003 and 2011, which we won. Everyone was telling us, you have to win and we were like the host nation had never won it. If you score 500-600 runs in a bilateral series, no one will remember it. But if you contribute 300 odd runs in the World Cup or pick up 10 wickets and you win the crown, that will be remembered throughout your lifetime. Dhoni's six, Kapil Dev's 175, still gives us goosebumps. There is nothing bigger than the World Cup, it is the Olympics of Cricket," he opined.

"Because representing India in the Olympics is a big thing, but if you win a medal there, it is widely celebrated in the country. No one might know the athlete before they go to the Olympics, but once they come back after winning, the whole country applauds them. So when we won the World Cup, the fans were on the roads celebrating," Sehwag added.

Sehwag was part of MS Dhoni-led India's historic triumph in the 2011 ODI WC. Back then, India defeated the likes of Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland and Sri Lanka -- in the final -- to lift the coveted title. The former Indian opener returned with 380 runs, including a best of 175.

India will be eager to replicate their 2011 ODI WC success this time around as well. The semi-finals will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata whereas Ahmedabad will host the final on November 19.&nbsp;

Nothing bigger than ODI World Cup, it is the Olympics of cricket, says former Indian opener Virender Sehwag

The poster boy of the Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli has reacted to the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the CWC schedule in an event organised in Mumbai today, June 27. Interestingly, the ODI World Cup 2023 Trophy, which was unveiled on Monday, had a twist. It was launched into the space stratosphere, at an altitude of 1,20,000 feet above the Earth. The 50-over World Cup tournament will be hosted by India solely and will be played among 10 countries from October 5 to November 19, 2023.

<h2>Virat Kohli picks Wankhede</h2>

While talking to ICC, former India skipper Virat Kohli said that playing at Wankhede will be the most exciting. For the unversed, it’s the same venue where MS Dhoni had hit the winning six and lifted the 2011 World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli played an important knock in the match as when he walked in to bat at number 4, veterans like Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag were dismissed. He stabilised the Indian innings by building a partnership of 83 runs with Gautam Gambhir.

While talking about the same, Kohli said that he is looking forward to playing at Wankhede as it will have the feels. "I was quite young then. I saw what it meant to the seniors. I can understand what they went through and how special it is to play a home world cup and how excited they are going to be. So personally, I'm looking forward to playing in Mumbai. It'd be great to experience that atmosphere again," Kohli told ICC.

<h2>A decade-long drought</h2>

This ODI World Cup 2023 is very significant for the Indians, that too for various reasons. India won its last ICC trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Even after having the largest bench strength in the world, India has not been able to win an ICC trophy for the last 10 years. BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world, hence, they are expected to have world-class amenities.

Moreover, this World Cup can be the last one for many players. Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, or even Virat Kohli might say goodbye to the 50-over format before the next ODI World Cup.

Virat Kohli reacted to the lately announced ODI World Cup schedule and also chose his favourite venue for the ICC tournament. And it is none other than Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

The International Cricket Council, on Tuesday (June 27), announced the full schedule of the ODI World Cup 2023 edition, which will be held in India in October-November. After a long delay, the schedule was revealed and it has created a huge stir on social media platforms and in the cricketing fraternity. Defending champions England will take on the last edition's runners-up New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 05, whereas India will open their campaign versus Australia in Chennai on October 08.&nbsp;

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium&nbsp;in Ahmedabad. By all means, it will be the biggest clash of the World Cup. Apart from the Indo-Pak face-off, the cricketing fraternity will also await the battle between England-Australia, New Zealand-Australia, Australia-South Africa, Pakistan-Bangladesh, etc. For Muttiah Muralitharan, he is looking forward to India's face-off versus England in Lucknow on October 29.&nbsp;

Not India vs Pakistan! Muttiah Muralitharan names the match he is looking forward to in ODI World Cup

During the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition, Kane Williamson injured himself while fielding for defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), in their home game versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Such was the seriousness of the injury that he was ruled out of the entire edition and, since then, questions have been raised about Williamson's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

Recently, Williamson opened up on his right knee injury and didn't rule himself out of the ODI WC.&nbsp;The New Zealand white-ball skipper&nbsp;ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in match one of IPL 2023 and underwent a surgery in New Zealand as he is now in the early stages of rehabilitation.&nbsp;

<h2>'I'm making progress, but I'm not putting a timeline on anything'</h2>

"I'm just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment," Williamson was quoted as saying by India Today.

"I'm making progress, but I'm not putting a timeline on anything. I haven't had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead it can probably become a little bit daunting.

"Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won't be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate," he added.

Williamson was a vital cog in New Zealand's journey in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup, where they ended as runners-up. He returned with 578 runs in the previous World Cup, including two fifties and an equal number of hundreds (also winning the Player-of-the-Series award), and led the side to the final where they lost to England in the Super Over (on boundary count).&nbsp;

He will be desperate to regain fitness before the commencement of the 2023 ODI WC. In the draft schedule, the Black Caps are set to kick off the tournament by playing defending champions England in the first game in Ahmedabad on October 05.

NZ captain Kane Williamson opens up on knee injury, chances of featuring in ODI World Cup

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has highlighted a key area for Team India to strengthen as they prepare for the ODI World Cup which is less than four months away. Shastri, at the helm of team India as coach in the 2019 edition of the World Cup has indicated the use of at least two left-handers in the top six. India are facing a tough task to deploy a left-hander in the Playing XI after first-choice wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is injured while Ishan Kishan is yet to cement his place in the team.

<h2>Shastri highlights key area</h2>

"You need to strike the right balance. Do you think a left-hander will make a difference at the top? It does not have to be opening, but in the top three or four. You have to weigh all those options. Ideally, in the top six, I would like to see two left-handers," Shastri told The Week.

The Indian team has been blessed with talented left-handed youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma. While Kishan has played and proven his worth, competition for places has seen him sit on the bench while both Varma and Jaiswal are yet to make their debuts as the tournament might come early for them. The other option in the department is Ravindra Jadeja but lacks experience in the top order.

"You have Ishan Kishan. In the wicketkeeping department, you have Sanju [Samson]. But the left-handers, you have [Yashasvi] Jaiswal, Tilak Varma. There is enough left-handed talent that can replace any senior player at the moment."

"There are so many youngsters. There is Jaiswal and, I might miss out a few here, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera. There is [Sai] Sudharsan, who played so well in the [IPL] final. There is Jitesh Sharma," Shastri added.

<h2>India sweating on Rishabh Pant’s fitness</h2>

With less than four months to go before the start of the World Cup, India will be awaiting good news on a few names on the treatment table. As things stand, Rishabh Pant is likely to miss the World Cup as he has not made enough progress to be a match fit. He was the only untouchable left-hander player in the top six, but having gotten injured in a car crash in December 2022, he will be a big miss.

The other key players part of the treatment room include KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah. The World Cup is likely to start on October 5 while the build-up tournament Asia Cup begins on August 31.
