<h2>Australia outclass India in final</h2>

India were outclassed on all fronts in the final of the ODI World Cup after their impressive batting line-up managed to put on only 240 runs in their 50 overs.

KL Rahul was the top scorer for India with 66 runs while Virat Kohli scored his ninth fifty in the ODI World Cup on Sunday.

In a fitting reply, the Aussies weathered the early pressure to clinch their sixth ODI World Cup after Travis Head scored a 137-run knock while Marnus Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 58.

The pair stitched a partnership of 192 for the fourth wicket that laid the foundation for the win.

Australia won their sixth World Cup, adding to their success stories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011.

In the last two years, they have won the T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship (WTC) and now rounded the success with the ODI World Cup in India.

The two teams will now play in a five-match T20I series which kickstarted on Thursday (Nov 23) in Visakhapatnam.

RECORD-BREAKING 300 million fans watched India vs Australia ODI World Cup final on TV, says Jay Shah

R Ashwin&nbsp;opened up on getting just one game in the recently-concluded ODI World Cup at home. Ashwin was not part of India's initial World Cup squad but an injury to spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel led to his inclusion just days before the tournament's commencement. Ashwin featured in India's opening game, where they met eventual winners Australia in Chennai, but never featured in the playing XI from there on.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 37-year-old Ashwin said, "Never thought that my run at the World Cup would end after playing one match in Chennai, because I was bowling with good rhythm."

In the game between India and Australia, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Oct 8, Ashwin ended with match figures of 1 for 34 as India dismissed the Aussies for 199 in 49.3 overs riding on Ravindra Jadeja's 3 for 28. Later, India chased down the score with ease, despite early jitters, thanks to Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's 97 not out.

From thereon, Ashwin lost his place to Shardul Thakur as India went for more pace options before Hardik Pandya's injury and eventual&nbsp;omission led to the wily off-spinner sitting it out.

Ashwin revealed that he was going to play versus New Zealand, in Dharamsala, however, Hardik's absence&nbsp;changed India's plans. After that, India went ahead with five bowlers -- Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.&nbsp;

"My return was supposed to come against New Zealand at Dharamsala, Hardik had a heartbreaking injury. Hardik Pandya was an important figure because we did not have an all-rounder to replace him," Ashwin further added.

Under Rohit, India played&nbsp;brilliant cricket to win ten games in a row to enter the tournament-final, where they faced Australia on Nov 19 in Ahmedabad. However, they had an off-day in the summit clash&nbsp;to lose by six wickets.

Reflecting on the hosts' campaign, Ashwin further added, "Both Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma said that they had well laid out, strong plans. This World Cup had us playing an exciting brand of cricket."

<h2>Rahul feels the pain</h2>

India, unbeaten in the entire tournament before the World Cup final, were restricted to 240 runs in their 50 overs which turned out to be an easy chase for the Aussies. Rahul was India’s top scorer in the final with 66 but never got going as India lost wickets at consistent intervals. Virat Kohli scored 54 runs in the final while Rohit Sharma made 47 before he was scalped.

In reply, despite having the Aussies at 47/3,&nbsp;the match-winning innings from Travis Head saw the Aussies through. Head scored 137 runs before he was scalped in the penultimate over of the World Cup.

Earlier, star spinner Kuldeep Yadav also opened up on the painful defeat. Kuldeep stated he and Team India have taken pride despite the defeat that saw India remain the second-best side in the World Cup.

KL Rahul pens emotional note after ODI World Cup final disappointment vs Australia, posts 'it hurts'

India lost to Australia by six wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup final on Nov 19 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, Team India was on a roll and won ten games on the trot before losing the finale after managing only 240 in 50 overs. In reply, Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out sealed the deal for the Aussies, who&nbsp;won their sixth ODI WC title overall.

While the pain of defeat lingers...: Kuldeep Yadav reacts, pens heartfelt note after India's ODI WC final loss

Former India player and 2011 World Cup winner Suresh Raina says that Pat Cummins' captaincy is something which worked in favour of Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final vs India. Raina shared his thoughts in his column for the ICC two days after Australia won its sixth 50-over World Cup title.

"What swung the game in Australia’s favour was Pat Cummins’ captaincy," wrote Raina in his column.

"I think Cummins showed real temperament in his captaincy. He changed his bowlers knowing he could put pressure on each India batter even though they were all in such good form. His tactics made all the difference, and his planning and execution were perfect," he added.

Explaining the reasons behind his observation, Raina said: "The way he brought Glenn Maxwell into the attack to get the wicket of Rohit Sharma with a brilliant catch from Travis Head was very smart.&nbsp;

"Adam Zampa was great too, as was Cummins himself in dismissing Virat Kohli.

"They outplayed India and were very solid in their planning."

Raina, who was a gun fielder during his playing days, also appreciated Australia's fielding and said that it made a difference of 30-40 runs.

"Another big factor was Australia’s fielding, I think they saved 30 to 40 runs," Raina noted.

"From ball one, they were saving a lot of singles and boundaries. There was Travis’ catch and some excellent work in the deep from David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne," he added.

The former India player, however, was confident of the team bouncing back and doing well in the future.

"We will see the Indian team doing well again because they know how to reach the latter stages of tournaments now," Raina said.

"It just takes a bit of time to understand how to manage those pressure situations, especially when you’re at home.&nbsp;

"Sometimes when there’s a lot of pressure you can lose your focus, and I think that’s a lesson they will learn from this."

Former India player Suresh Raina shares TWO REASONS for India's defeat in ODI WC final vs Australia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold a meeting with skipper Rohit Sharma in the coming days as the selectors prepare for the next challenge post-ODI World Cup. Rohit, appointed as ODI and T20I captain in 2021, took over the reins of the Test side in 2022 and led India to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in 2022 while also overseeing an unsuccessful bid to win the ODI World Cup. Rohit has not represented India in the T20I format since November 2022 when India were beaten by England in the World Cup semis.

<h2>Rohit’s future in limbo</h2>

Rohit Sharma’s future in limited-overs is all but over as the selectors look to infuse&nbsp;fresh blood into the national side. With Rohit likely to be 40 by the 2027 ODI World Cup, it is highly unlikely he will be available for selection then. The selectors are looking to move on from the aged players and looking to build a new fresh and younger squad. It is also likely that selectors are working on the process of appointing a new captain in the limited-overs format.&nbsp;

The sources also state that Rohit has conveyed to the Ajit Agarkar-led selectors panel his decision to stay away from the T20I format. He is fine with not being selected for the future series in the T20I format as the young guns like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and others are waiting to make their mark. Officially, Rohit is still the captain of the T20I side but could soon vacate&nbsp;to pave way for the next generation.

<h2>Who next for captaincy?</h2>

Hardik Pandya remains the front-runner for the T20I captaincy post in case Rohit decides to step down while Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer also hold good interest. Bumrah captained India in the T20I series against Ireland in July while Shreyas was vice-captain when India faced South Africa in limited-overs format in October 2022, before the start of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

India will start their five-match T20I series against Australia on Thursday (Nov 23) when they take on the ODI world champions in Visakhapatnam with Suryakumar Yadav appointed as skipper.

Rohit has not represented India in the T20I format since November 2022 when India were beaten by England in the World Cup semis. Rohit’s future in limbo Rohit Sharma’s future in limited-overs is all but over as the selectors look to infuse fresh blood into the national side. With Rohit likely to be 40 by the 2027 ODI World Cup, it is highly unlikely he will be available for selection then. The selectors are looking to move on from the aged players and looking to build a new fresh and younger squad. It is also likely that selectors are working on the process of appointing a new captain in the limited-overs format. ALSO READ | Gautam Gambhir feels India's timid batting in middle-overs cost them in CWC 2023 final vs Australia The sources also state that Rohit has conveyed to the Ajit Agarkar-led selectors panel his decision to stay away from the T20I format. He is fine with not being selected for the future series in the T20I format as the young guns like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and others are waiting to make their mark. Officially, Rohit is still the captain of the T20I side but could soon vacate to pave way for the next generation. Who next for captaincy?

BCCI set to discuss Rohit's future in white-ball cricket, skipper unlikely to return in T20I set-up: Reports

Australia's World Cup-winning hero David Warner has reflected on the team’s terrific decision to bowl first in the ODI World Cup final after his side emerged victorious. Playing against India, Australia opted to bowl first despite stats favouring the team batting first and then the Kangaroos went on to lift their sixth ODI World Cup title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Warner, who opted to rest for the T20I series against India claimed that they were prepared for the occasion and had lengthy conversations in the team meeting a night before the final.

<h2>Warner opens up on World Cup final</h2>

“They were discussing it the night before for a good hour and a half or two hours about what to do,” Warner told South Africa great AB de Villiers on the latter's YouTube channel.

“All the stats coming through was saying, bat first and put runs on the board. But for once, when we got all got asked that question, I think a majority of us said let's just chase.”

“What Marnus did was absolutely perfect. You look at when we played India in the first game. I think they were (2/3) but then Virat did what he does, and KL Rahul did as well. They were nice and calm. When you know what to get, your best batters generally thrive. They will play the tempo of the game,” said Warner.

<h2>Australia outclass host India in final</h2>

The win saw Australia win their sixth World Cup adding to their success stories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. In the last two years they have won the T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship (WTC) and now rounded the success with the ODI World Cup in India.

'All stats said bat first': David Warner reflects on Pat Cummins' brave decision in ODI World Cup final

Former India skipper and 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev says that the team has to move on from the loss against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. The comments come after Australia beat India by six wickets to win their sixth 50-over title on November 19.&nbsp;

"Sportsmen have to move on. You can't cling on to one setback your entire life. Fans can do this, but not sportsmen. You have to plan for the next day. We can't undo what has happened but just keep working hard. That's what sportspersons are all about," Kapil told reporters on the sidelines of an event in New Delhi.

"I don't have to say anything. You have seen everything already. When you lose, people say all kinds of things, but when they win, everything becomes quiet. That's why let us appreciate the fact that they played wonderful cricket. Yes, we couldn't cross the final hurdle but the perfect sportsman learns from this experience," he added.

India were the hot favourites to win the prestigious trophy after being undefeated throughout the tournament but Australia and their habit of rising to the occasion didn't let India complete the whitewash.

Batting first after losing the toss, India could manage only 240 runs and hit just four boundaries from over 11 to 50. They needed quick wickets to create some pressure in the game. Australia did lose three wickets but after that Travis Head played a marathon innings of 137 off 120 balls while Marnus Labuschagne score 58 not out.

Together, the duo added 192 runs for the fourth wicket and took the game away from India. The loss reminded fans of 2003 ODI World Cup in South Africa where India were dominant like 2023 and lost to just Australia in both, league stage and the final. &nbsp;

Move on: Former skipper Kapil Dev after India's loss to Australia in 2023 ODI World Cup final

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels India were not brave enough with the bat in the middle overs which cost them dearly in the ODI World Cup final loss versus Australia on Nov 19 in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma-led India were asked to bat first at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. They were 82 for 3 after 10 overs but they went into a shell and only managed four boundaries (not even a single six) for the rest of the 40 overs. The middle overs, from 11 to 40, saw Indian batters hit only two fours and, thus, India ended with 240 in 50 overs, which was eventually chased down by Australia with&nbsp;six wickets in hand&nbsp;in 43 overs.

Thus, Gambhir believes India's timid show with the bat in the middle overs resulted in their big loss. Speaking to Sportskeeda, the 2011 ODI WC winner said, "It's a double-edged sword. But I have always said this, the most courageous team will go on to win the World Cup. I can understand that you need time to build a partnership but 11 to 40 overs is a very, very long time. Someone should have taken that risk."

Gambhir further pointed out, "I would have actually liked India going really aggressive with their top 6-7 batters even if they had been all out for 150. I would have been fine. But if you feel you can defend 240 in a World Cup final...that is not where you fight. It is either this way or that. Either we go 150 all out or 300. That is where India have lacked. That is where India have not gone on to win ICC tournaments. Rohit should have sent the message before the game that even if I get out we should go aggressive."

Gambhir felt that since Virat Kohli -- who ended with most runs in the 2023 edition (765) -- was playing the role of an anchor, other batters should have been more aggressive. "Kohli has played a role of anchoring the innings, but the rest all should have been aggressive. KL should have gone. What harm would it have caused? We would have been 150 all out. But had we been brave, we could scored 310 and India would have been world champions. This is not the 1990s. 240 is not a good score at all. You need 300-plus totals. India were not brave enough," Gambhir added.

Being all-out for 240 in 50 overs, India had Australia reeling at 47 for 3 before Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out took their side home with seven overs to spare. With the win, Australia lifted their sixth ODI WC trophy.&nbsp;

Being asked to bat first, India only managed 240 in 50 overs before Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out took Pat Cummins-led Australia past the finish line in 43 overs. Despite having a brilliant run throughout the World Cup, Rohit Sharma-led India couldn't win the trophy. Nonetheless, there were several memorable performances from India throughout the edition.&nbsp;

Mohammed Shami, who didn't play in India's first four games, ended with most wickets in the tournament (24). Shami ended with two five-wicket hauls, including a 7 for 57 in the semi-finals. In a recent interaction with PUMA, Shami opened up on Pakistan's former player Hasan Raza's absurd claims against India. During India's dominance in the league stage, Raza had come up with several bizarre claims on India's performance. He alleged that&nbsp;the International Cricket Council (ICC) was giving different balls to India following the pacers' superb show versus England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, etc. Shami had first slammed such claims on Instagram before talking about it once again in the recent interaction.

"I know I can be bitter while speaking the truth but if I don't open my mouth after all this then it won't be right," Shami said in a podcast with PUMA.

Legendary Australia former captain Allan Border hailed the impact of Pat Cummins after he masterminded his side’s sixth ODI World Cup win on Sunday (Nov 19). Australia won the World Cup final by six wickets after they beat hosts India by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. According to Border, Cummins made a brave choice by opting to field first against an Indian side that was unbeaten until the final of the World Cup.

<h2>Border hails Cummins’ impact</h2>

"Pat Cummins’ “bowl first’’ call in the World Cup final was one of the bravest decisions I have seen from a cricket captain. I must be honest, when I heard Pat say “we will bowl’’ I thought “oh no, Patrick, you have lost the plot, you blokes. When Rohit Sharma was going hard early, I thought “what are we doing?’ Those first half a dozen to 10 overs I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, The decision to bowl first has just backfired," said Border.

Australia won the World Cup final by six wickets after they beat hosts India by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. According to Border, Cummins made a brave choice by opting to field first against an Indian side that was unbeaten until the final of the World Cup. Border hails Cummins’ impact "Pat Cummins’ “bowl first’’ call in the World Cup final was one of the bravest decisions I have seen from a cricket captain. 23-year-old Indian man ends life after India’s loss to Australia in ODI World Cup 2023 final

David Warner has opted out of Australia's T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series versus hosts India, starting on Thursday (Nov 23) in Visakhapatnam. The squad comprises seven players from the Pat Cummins-led Australia's World Cup-winning squad. It is to be noted that Warner has withdrawn from the series after a 'demanding' yet successful WC campaign and he will now prepare for Australia's home Tests series versus Pakistan.

"Selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign," a statement from Cricket Australia read. Warner had another great run in this year's ODI WC, scoring 535 runs in 11 games including two fifties and equal number of hundreds, at an average of&nbsp;48.63. Thus, he silenced his critics in style and now will shift his focus on his farewell Test series, where Australia will host Pakistan starting on Dec 14.

India vs Australia: David Warner opts out of T20I series after ‘demanding’ ODI WC campaign

After Australia's dominating win over hosts India in the ODI World Cup&nbsp;final on Sunday (Nov 19), the Indian team will now look to reflect on what went wrong for them in the summit clash. Australia beat India by six wickets in the final and clinched their sixth title at the grandest stage. While it was a tough day at the office for Team India, WION’s cricket expert and former World Cup-winning coach Dav Whatmore reflected on the key reason why they lost in the final.

<h2>Whatmore explains India's defeat</h2>

“It was a difficult wicket to bat on, they probably faced the toughest task of the tournament at the wrong time. I was shocked to see that the ICC did not prepare a fresh wicket for such an occasion. I did not understand why they used an already-used pitch for the final. The dew factor also played a crucial role in the outcome of the final,” Whatmore said in WION’s sports podcast with Aditya Pimpale.

“Pat Cummins had a plan and he executed it to perfection that has seen him work the magic. His captaincy skills improved as the tournament went on. I am impressed with the way he used the resources at his disposal, particularly in the final. With the short experience he had managing the Australian 50-over team, it was remarkable,” Whatmore added.

You look at their structure, the money for players, the well thought out programs and the back up talent and they really just need to continue doing these things. Indian cricket is in good place, says Pakistan legend Wasim Akram after India's ODI WC final loss

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi feels 'overconfidence' led to India's downfall in the ODI World Cup final, where they lost to Australia by six wickets in Ahmedabad on Sunday (Nov 19). Entering the final on the back of ten wins on the trot, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were favourites to lift the title. However, they fell flat as Australia clinched their sixth ODI WC trophy.

Afridi, who was live on&nbsp;Pakistan channel&nbsp;Samaa TV, criticised India's batting effort as they fell for 240 in 50 overs, with captain Rohit (40), Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) being the only performers. The likes of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja couldn't add much to the total. Afridi, thus, slammed India's batting,&nbsp;Iyer's shot selection in particular, and mentioned that overconfidence could have been a factor in India's fall.

Afridi said, "Jab aap continue game jeete ja rahe ho toh overconfidence bhi zyada ho jati hai. toh woh cheez aapko marwah deti hai&nbsp;(When you have won all the games continuously, the 'overconfidence' is too much. So, this could lead to their downfall)."

The former Pakistan all-rounder also slammed the Ahmedabad crowd for not applauding Travis Head when he reached his ton. He&nbsp;recalled his playing days and said, "I think we all have experienced this at some point in our career. Whenever we hit a boundary or score a century or take a wicket, there is never any response from the (Indian) crowd. Yesterday when Travis Head scored a century, then the crowd was silent. Why? A sports-loving nation always appreciates every athlete and their efforts, but not getting that from the Indian crowd, which is a so-called educated crowd was surprising."

He added, "It was such a massive hundred, at least a few could have stood up to applaud. And the way the team's body language kept dropping, the crowd had the same thing going."

Shahid Afridi feels 'OVERCONFIDENCE' led to India's downfall in ODI WC final, remark goes VIRAL

After the disappointment&nbsp;of the ODI World Cup final loss, the BCCI announced India's 15-man squad for the forthcoming five T20Is versus Australia at home. With Hardik Pandya injured, Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead the young side in the upcoming series, which kicks off on November 23. As soon as the squad was announced, Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson's omission made heads turn.

Chahal, who last played a T20I in the West Indies series in mid-August, has not made the cut and the 33-year-old reacted to his snub. Taking to his official account on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Chahal shared a cryptic post:

Chahal is not having the best of times in international cricket. He was not part of the Rohit Sharma-led India squad for the just-concluded ODI WC at home. Thus, the experienced campaigner's white-ball career is on the decline.

India vs Australia: Yuzvendra Chahal reacts after being overlooked for Men in Blue's T20I squad

India coach Rahul Dravid acknowledged that there were a lot of 'emotions' in the dressing room after the loss against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final on November 19. India, who were undefeated in the tournament, were handed a&nbsp;six-wicket loss&nbsp;by&nbsp;Australia who clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title.

“Yeah, of course, he's (skipper Rohit) disappointed, as are many boys in the dressing room. It wasn't, yeah, there were a lot of emotions in that dressing room," Dravid said at the post-match presentation in Ahmedabad.

The coach, who was part of the team which had lost the 2003 ODI World Cup final against Australia, agreed that it was tough to see the boys hurting.

"It was tough to see as a coach, because I know how hard these guys have worked, what they've put in, the sacrifices they've made. So, it's tough. I mean, it's tough to see that as a coach, because you get to know these boys personally. You get to see the effort they put in, the hard work that we've put in over the last month, the kind of cricket we've played. But yeah, but that's sport," added Dravid.

Dravid, under whose captaincy India crashed out of the&nbsp;group stage during the 2007 ODI World Cup, also said that the team will keep moving on.

“That happens. It can happen. And the better team won on the day. And I'm sure that the sun will come up tomorrow morning. We'll learn from it. We'll reflect. And we'll move on, as will everyone else. I mean, that's what you do as sportsmen. You have some great highs in sports, and you have some lows in sports. And you keep moving on. You don't stop. Because if you don't put yourself on the line, you don't put yourself in games like these, you don't experience the great highs. And neither do you experience the great lows. And if you don't do that, you don't learn,” he said.

Batting first, India could manage only 240 runs which Australia chased down in 43 overs on the back of Player of the Match Travis Head's 137 off 120.

ODI World Cup 2023: India coach Rahul Dravid opens up on dressing room EMOTIONS after loss in final

Former India spinner Murali Kartik has backed the Indian team to bounce back after their disappointing defeat in the final of the ODI World Cup on Sunday (Nov 19). The final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium saw Australia win by six wickets and condemn India to their only defeat of the tournament. The loss was heartbreak for the Indian fans as it ended on a sorrowful note. However, Kartik has backed the team stating there is no shame or disrespect in losing a World Cup final.

The Indian team entered the final with high motivation having not lost a single contest throughout the tournament. However, their 10-match unbeaten run came to an end in the decisive contest of the World Cup. The India batters fell flat before they were reduced to 240 in their 50 overs. This proved to be an easy chase for the Australians despite them being 47/3 in their innings while Travis Head was the star of the show.

The win saw Australia win their sixth World Cup adding to their success stories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. In the last two years they have won the T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship (WTC) and now rounded the success with the ODI World Cup in India.

India will now have the opportunity to avenge the defeat when they take on Australia in a five-match T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead the side in the absence of big-name players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah. Hardik Pandya will as be out as he recovers from an injury suffered during the World Cup.

Batting first, India put a below-par total of 240, primarily due to tight bowling from the Australian bowlers and some ordinary shots from the batters. Defending the target, India were off to a great start, picking three wickets inside the first powerplay.&nbsp;

Here's how much prize money each team earned at the end of ODI World Cup 2023

Suryakumar Yadav is all set to lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Australia as the Men in Blue look to put behind the disappointment of losing the ODI World Cup final on Sunday (Nov 19). India who are expected to be without top stars for the series will have to deal with the injury of Hardik Pandya, who was the designated captain of the side. However, his unavailability will now see his former Mumbai Indian teammate Suryakumar wear the captain’s armband against the Aussies in the T20I series.

According to the reliable cricketing site Cricbuzz, Suryakumar Yadav was the obvious choice as India won’t field any top-ranked senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Jasprit Bumrah in the series. Both Virat and Rohit have not played in the T20I format since India lost to England in the T20 World Cup semifinal last November. Bumrah who has led India in Tests and T20Is in the past was also amongst the ranks to take the role, but it is understood he will also be rested for the T20I series.

The five-match T20I series will start on Thursday (Nov 23) with the hosts taking on Australia in Visakhapatnam before staying in South India for the second T20I. The teams will also travel to Guwahati, Nagpur, and Hyderabad for the rest of the series with the final set to take place on Sunday (Dec 3). It is expected that India will field a young side consisting of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. Prasidh Krishna, unused during the World Cup is also expected to be in the side.

India had earlier beaten Australia 2-1 in the three-match ODI series before the World Cup and will now look to exact revenge on the opposition. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh are also expected to make the cut for the T20I series while Rituraj Gaikwad and Shardul Thakur will also don the Indian colours. Tilak Varma will be another player who look to get on the team bus having impressed in the build-up to the World Cup, but was unfortunate to not make the cut.

Suryakumar Yadav set to lead Team India in T20I series against Australia after ODI World Cup setback

Australian World Cup-winning hero Travis Head was full of praise for skipper Pat Cummins after they lifted their sixth title on Sunday (Nov 19) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Powered by the terrific 137-run knock and aided by Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten 58 runs, Australia beat India by six wickets. However, Head pointed out that the decision to bowl first was the crucial factor in his team winning the World Cup.

“It was a great decision to bowl first after winning the toss. I felt the wicket got better as the day went on. It took a little bit of spin, it paid dividends. Nice to be a part of it, nice to play a role in all of that. He’s (Rohit Sharma) probably the unluckiest man in the world.

“Again, it's (fielding) something that I worked hard on. I couldn't imagine getting a hundred, couldn't probably imagine holding onto that one. Was great to hold on to that catch. Important to look after your team-mates, to be able to do that on the big stage in front of a full house is a nice thing,” Head said during the post-match.

<h2>Australia beat India in final</h2>

India were outclassed on all fronts in the final of the ODI World Cup after their impressive batting line-up managed to put on only 240 runs in their 50 overs. KL Rahul was the top scorer for India with 66 runs while Virat Kohli scored his ninth fifty in the ODI World Cup on Sunday. In a fitting reply, the Aussies weathered the early pressure to clinch their sixth ODI World Cup after Travis Head scored 137&nbsp;while Marnus Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 58. 'It was a top decision': Virender Sehwag reflects on Aussies' decision to include Travis Head despite injury

Rohit Sharma-led India were demolished by Pat Cummins' Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition's final on Sunday (Nov 19) in Ahmedabad. Being asked to bat first&nbsp;at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, India only managed 240 in 50 overs with skipper Rohit (40), Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) being the top-performers. The target was always&nbsp;below-par and Australia chased it down in 43 overs with six wickets in hand.

Despite reeling at 47 for 3 at one point, Australia came back resolutely and went past India comfortably due to Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out. After the game, many Indian players were emotional as the fans were also left shattered. As the dust has settled down on the heavy defeat, many Indian cricketers have reacted to the lost opportunity and opener Shubman Gill also joined the bandwagon.

Talking about Gill's campaign, the right-hander amassed&nbsp;354 runs in nine matches at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of&nbsp;106.94. He managed four fifties but fell cheaply in the summit clash, getting out for 4.

By the time the next ODI WC comes, in 2027 in South Africa, Gill is expected to be having more responsibilities on his shoulders and the star batter will hope to&nbsp;guide the team to the coveted title.

<h2>'We were not good enough today'</h2>

At the post-match presentation of the final, Indian captain&nbsp;Rohit opened up on the loss. He said, "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse."

This became Australia's sixth men's ODI WC triumph; most by any team. Meanwhile, India's wait for an ICC title continues with their last major success coming in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy, under MS Dhoni,&nbsp;in England and Wales.

Shubman Gill shares HEARTFELT post, vows for strong comeback after India lose World Cup to Australia

The whole nation is fretting over India's six-wicket loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final on Sunday (Nov 19) in Ahmedabad. Given Rohit Sharma-led India entered the final on the back of a flawless run, winning all their 10 games, the home side were the hot favourites to lift the coveted trophy in front of a packed Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, however, Pat Cummins-led Australia proved their mettle once again in an ICC final to walk away with their sixth ODI WC title.

Being asked to bat first, India were dismissed for 240 in 50 overs with Rohit (47), Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) being the top performers. Mitchell Starc (3 for 55), Cummins (2 for 34) and Josh Hazlewood (2 for 60) restricted the Indians on a slow batting surface before Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne (58) weathered the storm for the Aussies, after their initial struggle which saw them reeling at 47 for 3, to go past India's score in 43 overs.&nbsp;

After missing out on another opportunity to win an ICC title, Indian players are shattered whereas the entire country is&nbsp;also in sheer disappointment. Amid all this, a student also made heads turn, requesting his institution to give a day off from classes collectively to recover from the huge setback.&nbsp;

'Cancel class for emotional recovery': Student's appeal goes viral after India's CWC loss to Australia

India were thoroughly outplayed in the ODI World Cup 2023 final by Australia as the Kangaroos added another 50-over title to their world-record tally of five. The Indian batters, who were as dominant as anybody throughout the tournament could manage only 240 runs on a pitch which they probably misread completely.

On a sunny afternoon in Ahmedabad on November 19, they hoped for the pitch to become difficult to bat as the day wore on but that didn't happen. Even a little peak in the four games prior to the final would have told them that it won't be happening. Yet, Rohit Sharma said he 'would have batted first anyway.'&nbsp;

Australia, on the other hand, were spot on as their skipper decided to bowl first as they had done their homework. They had studied the ground, the players, the pitch and the players. And, the results are out for everyone to see.

The toss is something which isn't in anyone's control, but batting is.

Rohit was once again the trendsetter - scoring 47 off 30 at a strike rate of 156. He then decided to play a big shot - even though he had hit last two balls for a four and a six - and got out. But he can't be blamed as he has batted like that in the whole tournament - scoring 401 of his 597 runs in the powerplay at a strike rate of 135.

The question is, after taking 10 runs off the two balls - was it required to go big again the&nbsp;same&nbsp;over? His dismissal changed the game for India and after that just four boundaries were hit in the next 40 overs - just four.

Anyway, Virat Kohli, who amassed 765 runs in the World Cup - the most ever in an edition, was on the crease. He tried his favourite shot to rotate strike - guiding the ball towards third man,&nbsp;but misread the ball and it hit the stumps.

India managed 92 runs more in the next 21.3 overs - which is 129 balls - if they had rotated the strike a bit more and got those 20 extra runs - may be it would have made the difference or may be it wouldn't have but that was some timid batting from them.

And as it often happens, the side which is braver, wins the match - in this case - Australia - who won their record sixth title.

The Indian batters, who were as dominant as anybody throughout the tournament could manage only 240 runs on a pitch which they probably misread completely. On a sunny afternoon in Ahmedabad on November 19, they hoped for the pitch to become difficult to bat as the day wore on but that didn't happen. Even a little peak in the four games prior to the final would have told them that it won't be happening. Yet, Rohit Sharma said he 'would have batted first anyway.' Australia, on the other hand, were spot on as their skipper decided to bowl first as they had done their homework. They had studied the ground, the players, the pitch and the players. And, the results are out for everyone to see. ODI World Cup 2023: India found short of insights at home against well-prepared Australia

Australia Deputy Prime minister and Defence minister Richard Marles has termed India as the centre of 'global cricket' even as he pointed that the game is 'emblematic of the relationship.' The Deputy PM was present at the Ahmedabad stadium during the 2023 ODI World Cup final, representing his country. Speaking to WION's diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, he&nbsp;shared his views on what cricket means for both countries and how it binds the two nations together.

Sidhant Sibal: First question on cricket, Australia won and India obviously played well throughout the ODI World Cup, but how was it at the Narendra Modi stadium on Sunday, the electrifying atmosphere?

Richard Marles: It was an incredible, extraordinary experience for me. I was not expecting that. The teams played an amazing game on just the most extraordinary stage. It is the biggest cricket ground in the world, completely full and never heard the noise like that. When the first few Australian wickets fell, we were getting a bit nervous there and noise of the crowd was astounding. I spoke to the Australian cricketers after that in the dressing room, if they had heard something like before. What is clear now that for Australia Cricket, India is so familiar. All players play here in the IPL. They all said that they have heard noise like that in various IPL games. It's there second home in so many ways. It does speak through cricket, how relationship between the two countries has evolved so significantly.

Sidhant Sibal: Cricket has been the heart of the relation, team India visited Australia for the test match in 1947-48.

Richard Marles: They did and Bradman was the captain on that tour. My father saw Bradman play once and it was in that tour against India. It was a very iconic moment and since then, Indian tours of Australia have been significant. &nbsp;I t remember watching India play in 1977-78 and Bishan Singh Bedi, who sadly just passed away, he was the captain in that tour. It was my first time watching the two sides play in what was a great series. But I think now you know, global cricket has become centred on India. For us, it was really beating India in India and Australia. India matches are becoming really the pinnacle of the game. We obviously (Australia vs England) have a lot of tradition but I think increasingly we see top matches and series against India. And you're right that it really is emblematic of the relationship. We share a passion as two countries for this sport and we obviously have a very significant relationship with the United States. But you can't have a conversation with a taxi driver in Washington or New York, which you'll have with the taxi driver here in Delhi, where you feel passionately about the topic. And it binds us very closely together.

The defence minister is in Delhi for key India Australia 2+2 at foreign and defence ministers level. He said, Australia shares 'huge strategic alignment with India' and also 'comfort, the trust', pointing to increased interoperability between the militaries of the two sides.&nbsp;

Australia's Deputy PM Richard Marles talks about cricket ties with India after ODI World Cup final

India lost to Australia by six wickets in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup final on Sunday (Nov 19) at the&nbsp;Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Being asked to bat first, India rode on captain Rohit Sharma's 47 (31), Virat Kohli's 54 and KL Rahul's 66 to post a below-par 240 in 50 overs. In reply, Pat Cummins-led Aussies rode on Travis Head's majestic 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58* to win in 43 overs.

After the game, emotions were high as Indian players were shattered after missing out on winning an ICC title at home. India were excellent throughout the competition, winning ten games on the trot, before falling apart in the final. Thus, the likes of Rohit, Virat and many others were emotional and carried a dejected face at the post-match award ceremony. Just then, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar --&nbsp;Global Ambassador for the mega event -- came to the players' aid and consoled Rohit &amp; Co.

Tendulkar met each and every Indian player&nbsp;who was waiting for the commencement of the award ceremony and went to coach Dravid, Kohli, and Rohit as well. He was later seen having a brief chat with skipper Rohit.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation, a dejected Rohit opened up on the loss in the summit clash. He said, "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne who stitched together a big partnership and put us completely out of the game. We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse."

Head-Labuschagne stitched a match-winning 192-run fourth-wicket stand after Australia were reeling at 47 for 3 in a chase of&nbsp;241. The pair gave India no chance to come back into the contest with Head dominating every bowler whereas Labuschagne held one end firmly.

This became Australia's sixth ODI WC triumph and their&nbsp;men's team's 10th ICC title overall.&nbsp;
