IMD Mumbai scientist Sushma Nair said, “Since the strength of the easterly winds was very strong, the sea breeze set in very late. Furthermore, there was an anticyclone at 700 MPA. Owing to these factors, the day temperatures shot up.”

“Following the cyclone, there has been a low formation in the Arabian Sea which has resulted in moisture incursion. This brought rain to some pockets of the region,” said Sunil Kamble, IMD Mumbai director.

The Mumbai civic body has ordered a high-level probe into the death of a woman who fell into a stormwater drain during heavy rainfall in Andheri East, Mumbai. The tragic incident happened on Wednesday at 9:20 pm, the police said.

The 45-year-old woman, identified as Vimal Anil Gaikwad, was stuck in an open drain and drowned. She was taken to the Cooper Hospital after the local police and fire department were alerted. According to the authorities, she was declared brought dead to the hospital.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Thursday, September 26, that a probe is ordered into the incident.&nbsp;

A committee of three has been formed to look into the incident, which will be headed by deputy municipal commissioner (zone 3) Devidas Kshirsagar. Mumbai Fire Brigade Chief Ravindra Ambulgekar and Chief Engineer Avinash Tambewagh are also part of the committee.

One of the boys, Bisen fell into a water-filled pit on the roadside after getting close to it. Seeing this, Rahangdale rushed to save him, but he also lost his balance and fell into the same pit. &nbsp;

Police officials said that for a few hours, nobody knew about the incident.

"The third boy who was with them was quite shocked to witness all this right in front of him. So, it took him a while to inform others, as he was too shocked to talk about the incident at his home or with his friends. But after some time, when his parents observed his disturbed behaviour, he told them about the incident, and they informed the victims' parents,"&nbsp;added a police official from Rawanvadi police station. &nbsp;

The boys’ bodies were discovered when their families and locals began searching for them in the evening. &nbsp;

The bodies were handed over to the respective families after post-mortem. &nbsp;

Air India is offering full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for bookings confirmed for travel on 25th July 2024," the advisory stated. "Please check your flight status before heading to the airport."

Air India has also advised passengers to leave for the airport early as roads may be waterlogged and jammed causing travel delays.

SpiceJet also issued a similar advisory stating, "Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status."

Heavy downpours overnight lashed Mumbai and its suburbs early Monday morning, leading to waterlogging in major areas of the city. The low-lying areas were the worst hit causing traffic snarls and wreaking havoc on the daily life of city residents.&nbsp;

On Sunday night, the financial capital received over 300 mm of rain at various places in six hours from 1:00-7:00 am, according to the civic officials.&nbsp;

Several areas, including Andheri, Kurla, Bhandup, King's Circle, Vile Parle and Dadar, among other locations, reported significant water accumulation. The incessant rain overwhelmed storm drains, causing traffic to come to a standstill in many parts of the city.

"More than 300 millimetres of rain has been recorded at different places in the six-hour period from midnight yesterday to 7 am today. Now the water has receded a bit, so trains are restarting, but services are still affected," a senior official said at 8 am.

Heavy rain in Mumbai: City waterlogged after overnight downpour; IMD predicts more showers

After reeling under heavy rainfall for a week now, India's finance capital, Mumbai, will now get some relief, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest forecast.

The weather agency said that the city is expected to receive significantly light rainfall showers and "heavy to very heavy showers" at some isolated places on Thursday.&nbsp;

In a tweet, the Met Department said, "Moderate rainfall continues to occur over Mumbai. It is likely to continue for the next 3 hours (till 11:00 am on Thursday). Extremely Heavy rainfall has occurred at isolated stations and was very heavy at some stations during the last 21 hours."

The weather agency added that the heavy rainfall intensity is likely to continue till Thursday and is likely to decrease&nbsp;from Friday.&nbsp;

Thursday: Yellow alert, very likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.&nbsp;

Friday: Yellow alert, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

On Saturday and Sunday: Green alert.&nbsp;

<h2>Mumbai heavy rain&nbsp;triggers tree falls,&nbsp;short circuits</h2>

The Brihanmumbai Municipal&nbsp;Corporation (BMC) in its evening bulletin said that in the last 24 hours, Mumbai&nbsp;has witnessed some 26 incidents of tree falls, six incidents of house collapse and 15 incidents of electricity short-circuits.&nbsp;

As per the department, residents complained about landslides as well.&nbsp;

Two people lost their lives this week. Two men, Premlal Nirmal, 30, and Kaushal Doshi, 38, died due to injuries caused by tree&nbsp;falls.&nbsp;

Additionally, a 36 years old woman in Thane,&nbsp;and a teenager named Rehan Shaikh were reported injured due to a building collapse.&nbsp;

Mumbai received an average rainfall of 93mm, while the eastern and western suburbs experienced 127mm and 123mm of rainfall respectively.&nbsp;

The department also said that Dahisar received 154.5mm, Bhayander in Thane district experienced 128.0mm, and Juhu Airport and Ram Mandir recorded 71.5mm and 76.5mm&nbsp;respectively.

The IMD earlier issued an orange alert, predicted heavy to hefty rainfall in six districts of Maharashtra, and said that Mumbai is expected to witness relatively less intense showers.&nbsp;

The department also issued an orange alert for the districts of Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Nashik, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places.

Mumbai rain update: City to experience light showers from Friday this week, says IMD

Officials told news agency PTI that two people have been washed away in flood waters and one person was injured after a portion of his house collapsed.

An official from the district administration said that at least 32 houses were also partially damaged in different talukas of Palghar due to the heavy showers.

It comes after Mumbai's civic body banned people from visiting beaches on the days for which the weather forecasting agency has predicted heavy rainfall.

Life has come to a standstill in Mumbai with waterlogging leading to huge traffic and adversely impacting bus and train services as well.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that state authorities have taken all necessary precautions, with heavy rains predicted in vast swathes of Karnataka.

“NDRF and SDRF deployed in Kodagu, Karwar, and Udupi,” he told news agency ANI.

Amid incessant rains, flood alerts have also been issued for the southern state of Kerala and parts of the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh by IMD.

Officials told news agency PTI that two people have been washed away in flood waters and one person was injured after a portion of his house collapsed. × An official from the district administration said that at least 32 houses were also partially damaged in different talukas of Palghar due to the heavy showers. It comes after Mumbai's civic body banned people from visiting beaches on the days for which the weather forecasting agency has predicted heavy rainfall. Life has come to a standstill in Mumbai with waterlogging leading to huge traffic and adversely impacting bus and train services as well. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that state authorities have taken all necessary precautions, with heavy rains predicted in vast swathes of Karnataka. “NDRF and SDRF deployed in Kodagu, Karwar, and Udupi,” he told news agency ANI. Amid incessant rains, flood alerts have also been issued for the southern state of Kerala and parts of the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh by IMD. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/six-trains-cancelled-diverted-as-heavy-rains-continue-to-lash-mumbai-240537">rainfall intensity in Mumbai</a> is very likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

"The rainfall intensity is very likely to continue for the next 24 hours. Decrease thereafter over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during next 2 days is likely," the IMD said.

According to IMD, "Intermittent rain with heavy to very heavy falls are likely to occur at isolated places in city and suburbs. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 27 and 24 degrees respectively."

IMD has issued 'red alert'&nbsp;for Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Nasik, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts for August 4.

A red alert denotes likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

It also advised fishermen not to venture out in the sea. Overnight heavy rainfall inundated several areas in the city.

Streets were waterlogged in the city from Sion. Kalyan railway station was waterlogged following incessant rain which affected the daily commuters in the capital.

The Central Railways on Sunday said six trains have been cancelled, six diverted and one short terminated due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging in Mumbai.

"Train number 22101 Mumbai-Manmad Rajyarani Express, 22102 Manmad-Mumbai Rajyarani Express, 12118 Manmad-LTT Express, 12117 LTT-Manmad Express, 51033 Mumbai-Sainagar Shirdi Fast Passenger, 51044 Sainagar Shirdi-Mumbai Fast Passenger have been canceled for journey date of August 4," said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway.

"One train was short terminated with train number 12140 Nagpur-Mumbai Sewagram Express and one train was short originated with train number 12139 Mumbai-Nagpur Sewagram Express for August 4 at Nashik Road," he added.

Six trains on the affected route in the region were diverted through alternative routes by the Central Railway.

"Due to very very intense rainfall throughout, there is an accumulation of water in different sections of Central Railway Suburban section of Mumbai. We are reviewing the situation every 30 minutes," said Udasi.
