I can only imagine the pressure that each player must have gone through at that time, and then the semi-finals against Australia. It was a brilliant finish by Yuvi and Raina at the end," he added.</p>

<p>Even during the tournament that many thought to be his last as a professional cricketer, Dhoni decided to keep his cards (retirement plans) close to his chest and instead gave his beloved fans a glimmer of hope of watching him return to the field for one last time next season in IPL 2024.</p>

<p>Virat Kohli will become the tenth player to enter the 500-match club in international cricket when India face West Indies on Day One of the second and final Test at Port-of-Spain in Trinidad. Among Indians, he will become only the fourth player to reach the coveted 500-mark. <p>Little Master Sunil Gavaskar recently took a dig at modern-day Indian captains and how they enjoy enough security despite not being able to win ICC titles or facing heavy defeats. Gavaskar feels there should be more accountability to be taken by the captains and coaches of the team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Whether you win or lose, the captain knows that he is going to be there. This has not been a recent case, mind you. This has been happening since 2011. There have been results where we have been wiped out in the series 0-4, 0-4 but the captain hasn't changed," said former India captain Gavaskar while speaking to&nbsp;the Indian Express Idea Exchange.</p>

While Dhoni enjoyed good success as a white-ball captain, India were miserable during their away tours of England (in 2011/12 and 2014), Australia (in 2011/12) and South Africa&nbsp;and New Zealand (in&nbsp;2013/14) under the former Indian wicketkeeper.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Dhoni retained the Test captaincy until he retired from the format in late 2014 during the Australia tour. From thereon, Virat Kohli took over and led India to the No. 1 ranking (with the team faring well in away tours as well).</p>

<p>Similarly, the likes of Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not led India to an ICC title&nbsp;after the end of Dhoni's successful era as the white-ball skipper. However, Kohli remained Test and T20I captain till the time he decided to step aside, but was sacked as the ODI skipper.</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced a second-string squad for the upcoming Asian Games. With ICC ODI World Cup starting on October 5, a young Indian team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad will take part in the regional multi-sports tournament. The BCCI handed a lot of fringe players their maiden call-up in the T20I side and Rinku Singh is one of them.</p>

<p>Rinku shot to fame during the last IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders when he smashed five sixes off the last five balls of the match to take his team home. Speaking to RevSportz on his selection, Rinku said he'll dedicate his India debut to his family who has watched his struggles from close quarters.</p>

<p>“I know for a fact that my family, my parents will be happier than me to see me wear the Indian jersey. They have been waiting for this for years now. They have seen my struggle, they have helped me, been with me through all my ups and downs. The day I don the jersey will be a day dedicated to them,” he added.</p>

<p>The southpaw also revealed how talking to former India skipper MS Dhoni during the IPL 2023 helped him.</p>

<p>"The chatter with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) was really productive. He has also batted in similar numbers as I do – at 5 or 6 – and he has done it for the majority of his career and knows the position in and out. I simply asked him how to better my game, and his advice was very simple: You are batting really well. Continue whatever you have done so far,” said Rinku.</p>

<p>The Asian Games start September 23 with the cricket tournament starting a day later.</p>

<p>Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the 2011 World Cup winning team, celebrates his 42nd birthday on Friday, July 7. Dubbed the greatest white-ball leader ever, let alone in Indian cricket history, MS Dhoni tasted success in global events like none other.</p>

<p>He, to date, remains the only skipper in cricketer history to win all major white-ball events - including T20 World Cup (2007), 50-over World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013).</p>

<p>Under his leadership and a star-studded squad at the helm, India ended the 50-over World Cup drought, winning the final against Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chasing 275 against a potent Sri Lankan attack, India lost two wickets inside the Powerplay. While Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir steadied the innings with an 83-run stand for the third wicket, it was a match-winning partnership of 109 runs that saw India cross the winning line.</p>

<p>Though Gambhir ended with the highest score of 97 runs, it was an unbeaten 91 from the captain Cool, which sealed the deal for India.</p>

<p>Dubbed by many as the greatest Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, fondly known as MS Dhoni, turned 42 on Friday, July 7. The beloved 'Thala' lately tasted success in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his Chennai Super Kings team winning the title for the fifth time equaling Mumbai Indians.</p>

<p>His teammates, best friends and even colleagues took to social media to send birthday greetings to the legend.&nbsp;</p>

<p>From Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja to some of the young guns, Dhoni received ample love and best wishes from all quarters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To date, the only captain to win all white-ball ICC trophies, including the T20 World Cup (2007), 50-over World Cup (2011) and the Champions Trophy (2013), Dhoni is regarded among the game's finest strategists and perhaps one of the best wicketkeepers of all time.</p>

<p>From being the ultimate finisher that he was, having won a plethora of games on his own for both India and his IPL franchises, CSK and Rising Pune Supergiant, Dhoni's ability to produce a stumping in a fraction of seconds gave him the name of 'the quickest man in the east'.</p>

<p>Other than winning three ICC titles as Indian captain, Dhoni also clinched two Asia Cup trophies (2010, 2016) and was also the first Indian captain to win the ODI series in Australia (2008).&nbsp;</p>

<p>As it often unfolds in life, he has had many low moments as a captain throughout his career, but Dhoni's ability to rise from the ashes and deliver with what is at his disposal separated him from the rest.</p>
