Jab pehli baar Bharat ki Test jersey pehni thi, tab sirf ek sapna tha — apne desh ke liye kuch kar dikhane ka..

Uske baad har wicket, har sangharsh, har chot aur har comeback ne mujhe kuch na kuch sikhaya.

Test cricket mere liye sirf ek format nahi, meri zindagi ka ek behad khaas hissa raha hai.

Aaj bhaari dil aur anginat khoobsurat yaadon ke saath main Test cricket se retirement lene ka faisla kar raha hoon.

Is safar mein mera saath dene wale har teammate, coach, family aur un karodon Bharatiyon ka dil se shukriya, jinhone achhe aur mushkil dono waqt mein mujh par bharosa banaye rakha..

BCCI aur Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) ka bhi dil se shukriya, jinhone mere talent par bharosa kiya, mujhe aage badhne ke mauke diye aur mere cricket ke safar mein ek aham bhoomika nibhayi. Aapka saath aur vishwas mere liye hamesha khaas rahega.

'Why will I leave hope': Mohammed Shami remains optimistic about India return despite NZ tour snub

Former India coach Ravi Shastri shared his thoughts on three seasoned quicks, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. While Bhuvneshwar's well-earned call-up to the T20I side for the five-match series against New Zealand caught Shastri’s attention, the 1983 World Cup winner backed Shami for an Indian comeback. Following Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s T20I recall, Suresh Raina hints that veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami could be next in line to return to Team India.

India’s bowling attack could receive a massive boost ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, with former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina hinting at another surprise comeback to the Indian Team. Days after India’s swing king Bhuvneshwar Kumar was recalled to the squad for New Zealand T20Is, starting October 22, Raina hinted at Mohammed Shami’s inclusion soon after. Shami last played for India during the triumphant 2025 Champions Trophy campaign, and hasn’t been picked since. However, with Ajit Agarkar’s departure as BCCI’s chief selector, and with Pragyan Ojha taking over temporarily, Shami could be back donning the Indian jersey. While his ankle injury kept him on the sidelines following his 2023 ODI World Cup heroics, wherein he returned with 23 wickets in seven matches, questions around his fitness further dragged him away from a potential comeback. The right-arm seamer has, however, cleared the air about his match fitness several times before and even participated in domestic cricket across competitions to prove it. With India set to play five ODIs and two Tests against New Zealand, Shami’s return will boost the pace-bowling department. “Making it to the Indian team at the age of 36 shows character. He has been a very disciplined bowler and a very process-driven guy who has worked really hard on his body," Raina said while speaking at the jersey launch of the Indian Soft Ball Cricket League. “Absolutely, I think he (Mohammed Shami) has done well and played good domestic cricket too. He was was also part of India's 2025 Champions Trophy winning campaign but was not selected for Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia which preceded or India tour of England which followed. The selectors have cited his fitness as the reason for his exclusion on the couple of occasions but if the pacer continues to perform like he did on Sunday, he'll be hard to ignore for the place in the Indian team.

With the performance vs SRH, Shami reminded everyone once again of his prowess and that his experience is unmatched. The pacer revealed that playing all the domestic games helped him in keeping the rhythm to perform. That's why I kept in touch with the game and played all the domestic games. Without skill or experience, nothing happens. But you have to adapt," said Shami at the presentation after his POTM performance. Shami skillfully used slower balls to dismiss both the SRH openers, showing his skills and experience. Speaking on the same, he said: "I was here last year and used a lot of slower ones. Opponents use it a lot, I thought why not us too." Mohammed Shami last played an ODI for India early this year in the triumphant Champions Trophy campaign and hasn’t donned the Indian jersey since. Although he remains an integral part of India’s white-ball setup, Shami has regularly faced rejection despite his significant domestic performances; but not for long anymore, as the selectors have admitted keeping a close tab on his domestic showing, opening doors for his possible return to the Indian team, considering the 2027 ODI World Cup is less than two years away. "Mohammed Shami is being discussed on a regular basis.
