In the last sequence, one nurse says that everyone is talking about Leopold and Taj, where people died, but no one talks about the lives saved at the Cama and Albless hospital. This pretty much sums up Manoj Tapadia's Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata

Starring Kangana Ranaut, the movie captures the smiles and soft moments of nurses who, despite being in the most tense place, found their own little moments in between. And this is what the movie perfectly captures before the nurses and hospital goes through the most terrifying night. 26/11 is one of the darkest days in India's history.

Over the years, many stories have been brought to the big screen from different perspectives, and this time, the movie brings the story of 25 nurses, the unsung warriors, who saved the lives of over 400 patients during the night when death in the form of humans roamed the streets of Mumbai, and two terrorists found their way to Cama Hospital.

Told with simplicity, smiles and courage, this two-hour long film celebrate the unsung warriors before going overboard, it balances the story with emotions, feelings and terror, delivering the movie that is a perfect tribute to the nurses and the hospital staff, who had no idea of what to do and how to do.

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata: What's the story about?

Starting two days after the horrific night unfolded, senior nurse Geeta Gandhare has been called to give a statement against terrorist Ajmal Kasab (Zahid Khan). In a flashback, we see the night as it unfolded. It starts on a bright Mumbai morning, with tea being distributed. Then Geeta, along with her four co-nurses Sheetal Revagade (Girija Oak), Trupti Takle (Smita Tambe), and Babita Adsule (Esha Dey), approaches the senior doctor regarding a junior nurse. The next 30-35 minutes offer a look at the simple, happy lives of these nurses, who work with all their emotion and honesty, doing overtime without any regret. Finding happiness in the tiniest things. Then comes the night when they hear shots fired. At first some mistake them for firecrackers, then for something else, before they finally learn it’s a terrorist attack. After opening fire at CST station, the two terrorists, Abu Ismail (Aditya Mishra) and Ajmal Kasab(Zahid Khan), walk toward Cama Hospital, which is only 400 meters away. Time was limited, and in the rush, with patients, newborns, and the critically ill, the way the group of 25 nurses and support staff acted cleverly and saved lives forms the plot.

Still from Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata: Kangana shines in this untold story

The first half and second half of the movie capture two different emotions. The first focuses on how important women are, their personal lives as nurses, and what they are losing and gaining. What feels different from other movies about this tragic day is that it doesn’t focus only on that portion, but also tells the backstories of the characters, which builds the connection. However, at moments it does feel stretched because, at the back of your mind, you have that feeling of urgency. But these moments still make you smile. Or if you have watched the trailer, then surely, your expectations are different.

Now come to the second part, which begins with the tension of the situation. The terrorists are in, and two security guards have already been killed. So, it begins with a tense situation, and it aptly maintains that throughout the hour. In simple terms, the movie relies heavily on tension and human emotions, rather than heavy action sequences, blood and dead bodies. The story is more focused on human side and instinctive reaction that they took during the crises. The movie does have the occasion when the dialogues go heroic, little bit of over emotions, and the melodrama in the climax act or when Ranaut as a nurse kisses a patient's head, but all in all, it still manages to stay grounded and calm enough for its message to resonate.

Led by Kangana, the movie is not solely or entirely about her. She’s there as the anchor, but the long sequences of the movie also focus on other actors. She has always been one of the finest actors and so has given the commendable performance, but unlike her last few films where the cameras were focused on her, this time the focus has shifted to other nurses, characters, and others.

Apart from Kangana, the other actors, most of them, are Maharashtrian and speak the language, so it also makes the movie feel more grounded with their native dialect, which helps you connect with them. Other characters such as Girija Oak as Sheetal Revagade, Smita Tambe as Trupti Takle, Amrutha Namdev as Divya Bansode, Esha Dey as Babita Adsule, and Priya Berde as Harshada Jorvekar, Asha Shelar as Dr. Maya Kadam (Medical Superintendent), SuhitaThatte as Deena Dange (Matron) and others have given decent performance.

Final Verdict

Tapadia brings the story of nurses to the big screen by understanding the gravity of the subject and the stories of people he's telling, capturing the fear that those women had. At moments, the movie goes overboard with dialogues and actions that may feel unnecessary or overdone. But that’s the little creative liberty that’s always demanded by a film. Having watched so many movies and documentaries on this incident, I can say this movie captures the events with both emotion and fear, alongside moments of warmth.

Apart from the title, (being a little over the top), Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata gains respect for topic it is on and the emotions that it had. This film will make you think about a story, which has remained largely hidden. Runtime is short and that's the best part.

Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is in cinemas near you.

Kangana Ranaut, after a long time, is back with the story that deserves applause. Based on the 26/11 Mumbai attack, the movie tells the untold story of nurses and the Cama and Albless hospital staff that saved the lives of more than 400 people.

In the last sequence, one nurse says that everyone is talking about Leopold and Taj, where people died, but no one talks about the lives saved at the Cama and Albless hospital. This pretty much sums up Manoj Tapadia's Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata

Directed by Vikas Bahl, Queen, starring Kangana Ranaut, is one of the best female-led films ever produced in Bollywood. Released in 2013, the movie was a huge hit.

Actor Kangana Ranaut has been busy with her political career lately. However, she might be planning a comeback to acting, and this time, reportedly, she is set to step back into the role of Rani in Queen 2, the sequel to her highly acclaimed 2014 film. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the original film also starred Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon in supporting roles. Upon its release, the movie earned widespread acclaim for its story, Kangana’s performance, and its refreshing female-led narrative centred on self-discovery and personal growth. Is Kangana Ranaut returning as Rani in Queen 2? It seems that the long-discussed sequel is finally taking shape. According to Mid-Day, the film is gaining momentum. Bahl is expected to return to the director’s chair to tell a new story with a similar theme of self-discovery. Kangana Ranaut will reportedly return in the lead role; however, it is not yet confirmed whether she will reprise her role as Rani or play an entirely new character. While maintaining themes of self-discovery and self-reliance, the narrative will take a fresh direction. A source revealed, “In Queen 2, Kangana’s Rani will be a city girl unlike the small-town girl in the original. She will be smart, strong, and quirky, but a plot point will send her on the road of self-discovery. It will show how she conquers life through her individuality, self-realisation, and courage. While the first one saw her travelling to Paris and Amsterdam alone, this journey will take her across cities in India.” Also read: Filmmaker Ranjith remanded to 14-day judicial custody in sexual harassment case Who all will be returning for the sequel?
About Assi

The legal and courtroom-focused drama is directed by Anubhav Sinha. It features Pannu as Advocate Raavi, alongside Manoj Pahwa and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. The movie centres on Raavi, a fearless lawyer who fights for justice in a case of sexual assault, combating a corrupt system, patriarchy, and a society that often overlooks such crimes.

WION's review of Assi

WION's Nikita Toppo wrote in her review, "Assi brings out a harrowing and unsettling story that is gripping for sure. It is not an easy watch, and the performances of the actors are overall on point. However, while trying to address too many issues, including justice, trauma, parenting, and vigilantism, Anubhav Sinha’s film diverts from its original intention. But despite its flaws, Assi has the potential to keep the viewers stuck to their seats till the end."

Taapsee Pannu is currently making headlines for her recent courtroom drama, Assi, released in cinemas on 20th Feb. While promoting her recent movie, the actress has talked about her long-standing feud with Kangana Ranaut, who once labelled her as a "B-grade."

Tapsee Pannu and Kangana Ranaut's long-standing feud The feud between Pannu and Kangana Ranaut began in 2019, which stemmed from public criticisms by Kangana and her sister Rangoli Chandel, labelling the Tappad actress as a "sasti copy" (cheap imitation), "she-man," and "B-grade" actress amid the nepotism fight. Dismissing the reports of a rift with the actress, Panny said that she never fought. ‘’A fight happens when two people clash. I never clashed. You tell me, have I ever said even a single line against her? Her sister called me a ‘cheap copy.’ She said that since I don’t earn as much money here, that makes me cheap. If she is such a brilliant actress, I have no problem being called her copy. You can take out any statement of mine. I haven’t said anything against her,” Pannu said. When asked if their long-standing feud gave an extra benefit to the star kids, Taapsee stated, "I don’t know about them, but someone or the other must have benefited in some way. As I said, from my side, there was never any fight. But I do feel that someone must have gained from it." Whenever they mock Indian marriages remind them the most intelligent/ good looking actor/filmmaker / writer, so called the hottest man on earth Ben Affleck after many children many marriages still looking for that perfect wife. So is Jennifer Lopez, self made, the richest and one of the greatest pop stars ever, still looking for that perfect person. These two are so perfect that no one is good enough for them so after many trials and tests, children and families fed up by every one’s flaws, these two decided to be together many times. But last time they took double vows and then within few months ran in the opposite directions to save their lives, they are in their fifties and again divorced and still looking.” Indian classics Mother India, Devdas, Jodhaa Akbar and others to be screened at Academy Museum Kangana Ranaut also shared her personal experience, revealing that she has spent enough time in the West to observe people constantly searching for the perfect partner, often relying on various dating apps. “Whereas in India we get married to strangers in arranged marriages and go for walks holding hands even at 80. Never look up to western culture. Our culture is distorted a bit by many factors we must get it right and not look at west for inspiration,” she wrote. Kangana Ranaut’s films On the professional front, Kangana Ranaut’s last film, Emergency, was a disaster at the box office. She will next be seen with Tanu Weds Manu co-star R Madhavan for her next film.

Emergency Movie Review: Kangana Ranaut's much-talked-about film Emergency finally hits theatres across the country where Ranaut directs and acts as former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi and retells an era considered one of the darkest phases in the Indian democracy. But re-telling the era of Emergency (1975-77) authentically, without bias, is not easy and Ranaut's film slips ever so often, making Emergency the movie quite a passable affair.

Emergency Film Review

While the film primarily focuses on the 21-month-long emergency period, it also tries to showcase Indira Gandhi's rise to power. From being termed as Gungi Gudiya (dumb doll) who grew out of her father, Pandit Nehru's towering shadow to becoming the megalomaniac, despondent leader who saw nothing wrong in imposing arbitrary bans on the basic rights of citizens during the emergency, Indira Gandhi had quite a journey.

Emergency tries to capture all this and tries to even humanise the authoritative leader, making her look flawed and even vulnerable at times- unsure of her own decisions. But Ranaut, who also serves as the writer of the film, never really delves deeper into the incidents and loosely strings important political events into a 2.5-hour-long film.

Emergency loosely strings together important historical incidents

For many who have studied or followed Indian politics for years, Emergency does not serve anything new. Sure, some of the incidents stand out but in totality, it is a story well known. It also obviously plays to the gallery with everyone talking about Desh Bhakti (love for the country) as casually as breathing.

The laughable portions are also in plenty. The Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, when Mrs Gandhi's intervention led to the formation of Bangladesh, is over-dramatised. At one point, a young Vajpayee (Shreyas Talpade), Sam Maneckshaw (Milind Soman) and Mrs Gandhi all sing a battle song (I am not making this up) as India prepares to wage a war against Pakistan.

During the Emergency era, the PM keeps seeing her own distorted reflection in the mirror, which looks like a scene straight out of Stree 2. Some portions beautifully glorify the opposition leaders but make the Congress veteran and her party men look bad.

What works in Emergency

Some moments stand out. Gandhi's meeting with US President Richard Nixon ahead of the Indo-Pak War in 1971 is well-executed. As Nixon dismisses her and warns her against helping East Pakistan, she responds, "You have weaponry, we have courage." Then when she rides an elephant to reach an obscure village in Bihar to meet its starving occupants, she hits the right spot. The song Ae Meri Jaan (Arko featuring Hariharan) is also beautifully utilised in the film.

Emergency takes meticulous efforts to make the opposition leaders look positive. No harm there as these leaders played an important role during the emergency. But the narrative is lopsided which tends to only focus on the negatives of the Congress and its veteran leaders and glorify the struggle of the then Jan Sangh party leaders.

The film features prominent faces in the supporting cast and they do a credible job. Anupam Kher plays Jaiprakash Naryan effectively. Shreyas Talpade plays the young Atal Bihari Vajpayee while Milind Soman plays Sam Maneckshaw well. Mahima Chaudhary as Pupul Jaykar is an empathetic friend to the Nehru family but her back story like many others is never fully explained. Special mention for actor Vishak Nair who plays Gandhi's younger son, the controversial Sanjay Gandhi who was instrumental in making Indira Gandhi a larger-than-life leader. I wish there were more scenes between Ranaut and Nair - the two complement each other and field of the extremities of their characters well.

Emergency ultimately fails to create an impact because it has a biased approach towards its storytelling. The film should be given credit for not whitewashing the protagonist and her deeds, but at the same time, it feels like a lopsided narrative that seems to have an agenda.

In her career, Kangana has delivered some memorable performances in films like Gangster, Queen and Panga. But in the last few years, the actress seems to have lost her sheen, delivering middling performances in most of her films. I had serious problems with the way she kept pursing her lips at regular intervals throughout the film. One could almost start a drinking game at the number of times she purses and pouts her lips throughout the film.

I came out of Emergency learning nothing new. It was a film about a Congress veteran that predictably glorified its opposition.

If only it was that easy to purse one's lips, wear a prosthetic nose, and a Cruella de Ville wig to look like former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Sigh.

Emergency Review: Kangana Ranaut's film about Indira Gandhi glorifies opposition leaders of the time

With just a week left for the release of her ambitious project Emergency, Bollywood actor and politician Kangana Ranaut organised a screening of her film in Nagpur. She invited Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for the special premiere. The event was also attended by Kangana’s co-actor Anupam Kher.

In a video from the event, Kangana can be seen talking about the film Emergency with a lot of enthusiasm. She can be heard saying: "Today, we are actually having the first screening of the film. Before this, no one has seen the film. The censor board was extremely strict, and they conducted thorough scrutiny. We had to provide so much proof and documentation. After six months of struggle, the film is finally ready.”
