Consecutive Test, Twenty20 and One-Day series defeats would be enough for most cricket nations to ring the changes, but not England, according to team stalwart Jos Buttler.

India captain Virat Kohli said after claiming the ODIs with a seven-run win in a tense decider on Sunday that it had been "sweet" to beat old rivals England in every contest on the three-month tour.

Kohli predicted "exciting times" ahead for his side who are now expected to depose England as the world's top one-day side in the ICC rankings before they host the Twenty20 World Cup this year.

The Tests, won 3-1, saw India showcase a devastating new spinner in Axar Patel, while Prasidh Krishna was unleashed as a new pace threat in the ODIs.

Buttler, who stood in for injured captain Eoin Morgan, said however that England's rivals should not read too much into the defeats.

"We have been a brilliant side for a long period of time now."

Buttler and Morgan believe that exposing new players to India's bedevilling sun-baked pitches will benefit England at the T20 tournament in October and again in 2023 when they defend their 50-over World Cup title in India.

The unbeaten 95 by number eight Sam Curran and two aggressive innings by one-day debutant Liam Livingstone caught the eye of England's management.

"Any time we expand the player pool, that creates competition, that creates better performances and that creates the upward trajectory we are always after," said Buttler.

The England wicketkeeper-batsman said Curran had been put in a unique position coming in so low in the order and nearly securing an unlikely win.

"Many guys are never really exposed to that situation in their whole career so he will take great learning from that," said Buttler.

"He is still only 22 and the scope of where he can take his game to is massive so we are all very excited for him."

Livingstone also impressed with his unbeaten 27 in England's emphatic six-wicket win on Thursday followed by his 36 on Sunday.

"Liam coming in and playing in those two games the way he has, it shows that we are doing things right," said Buttler.

"Liam is obviously a very attacking, aggressive batsman and we want him to play in exactly that fashion when he comes in," he added.

"It is brilliant to see someone like Liam come in and play straight away in the fashion that we would like people to play in.

"That shows that we are doing things right, the message is getting through to people and we will continue to play in that way."

England may not have won a series in India but Buttler said: "We are in a really good place as a side."

"What we do in IPL, it's not like we tell them all the things and I think that is very important. Yes, we have played a lot of cricket together, but when you represent the country, it is all about how best you can give individually and as a team," Rahane said.

Rahane went on to talk about the balance in England's squad.&nbsp;

"Ben Stokes and (Jofra) Archer, they are really good players. They did really well for England, so it is not about any individual. I think it is all about a team, England team, they are a very balanced outfit which did really well recently against Sri Lanka.

"So for us, what is important is that we plan against all their guys and just play as a team here and back our strengths."

Team India will return to action as they host England in the first Test match that is set to begin on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Ben Foakes believes he deserved a long run after his spectacular debut in Sri Lanka but has accepted his role as Jos Buttler`s understudy as England`s test wicket-keeper. 
 
Foakes smashed a century on his test debut at Galle and was adjudged man-of-the-series but has played only two more tests, both in West Indies, since that heady tour of Sri Lanka in late 2018. 
 
With Buttler set to return home after the opening test against India, Foakes is expected to don the keeper`s role in the last three matches against Virat Kohli`s men. 
 
"The way I started in Sri Lanka, I did expect to play for longer," Foakes told a video conference from Chennai, which hosts the opening test from Friday. 
 
"I did expect to get more of a run at that stage. I guess it`s tricky to control your emotions... with everything going on then and then having to get it taken away from me because I didn`t get runs in West Indies. 
 
"I know that competition among the keepers is so high that there are going to be times when I`m not playing. And that`s something I just have to accept and be at peace with." 
 
Foakes described Buttler as a "world class player" and hailed the "healthy competition" among England`s wicket-keeping trio, which also includes Jonny Bairstow. 
 
"As a keeper, you never know what`s going to happen... you always have to be on your guard, ready (for opportunities)," Foakes said. 
 
"It`s not the most fun place to be as a back-up keeper but it`s one of those things where you have to always expect them to happen." 
 
The Surrey player accepted however well he might fare in India, Buttler would reclaim the place behind the stumps as and when he is available. 
 
"I would expect it to be the case. Jos is the number one and I`m just seeing these three games as a chance to try and stake my claim and do as well as possible," added Foakes.

Buttler, who will only feature in the opening Test in Chennai, was the wicketkeeper during team's Sri Lanka series.&nbsp;

"I certainly enjoyed being in Sri Lanka and the ball turning past the bat, it's exciting," the 30-year-old said.

"I think the ECB has been very forward-thinking," Buttler said, praising the board for recognising the challenges of living in bio-bubbles following the COVID-19 pandemic.
