Dhawan (62 not out off 53 balls) scored his third half-century of the season and got good support from Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksa (40 off 28), who entertained with five fours and a six. As one of the senior batters in the team, Dhawan took the responsibility of finishing the game for his team and he did that with elan.

Skipper Mayank Agarwal dropped himself down the order to accommodate Jonny Bairstow (1) at the top of the order but the move did not work. However, the 87-run stand between the left-handers, Dhawan and Rajapaksa, ensured Punjab got home comfortably.

Liam Livingstone (30 not out off 10) displayed some brutal hitting towards the end of the chase and smashed premier India pacer Mohammad Shami for four sixes including a monstrous 117m hit over deep square leg. The 16th over going for 30 runs also gave a big boost to PBKS' net run rate.

It was a much-needed win for Punjab, who have struggled for consistency this season with five wins and as many losses. Earlier, Sai Sudharsan's unbeaten 65 off 50 balls was the saving grace in Gujarat's innings as Punjab bowlers conceded only 11 fours and two sixes. Sudarsan managed to hit five boundaries and a six but ran out of partners as Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya's decision to elect to bat backfired.

They lost openers Shubman Gill (9) and Wriddhiman Saha (21) cheaply. Gill, who had struck two boundaries, was dismissed courtesy a direct hit from Rishi Dhawan from cover, in the third over.

In the next over Saha, who started aggressively, gave a sitter to rival captain Mayank Agarwal at mid-off, giving Rabada (4/33) his first wicket. Saha, who had hit three boundaries and a six, was undone by the extra bounce, as he tried to play a lofted shot, but mistimed it and paid the price.

Gujarat further slipped to 44/3 as pacer Rishi Dhawan (1/26) removed Hardik (1) early. Hardik tried to drive an outside the off length ball, but ended it nicking to wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma leaving his team in all sorts of trouble.

Then Sudharsan and David Miller (11) tried to rally the innings but managed to add only 23 runs in 30 balls. It became 67/4 after Liam Livingstone (1/15) dismissed Miller, who miscued a lofted drive to be caught by Rabada at long-off.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bounced back to winning ways as MS Dhoni made his return as captain of the side against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday. Dhoni took over captaincy once again after Ravindra Jadeja decided to step down from his post following CSK's disastrous run in the tournament.

CSK rode on brilliant knocks from Ruturaj Gaikwad (99) and Devon Conway (85*) to post a strong total of 202 runs on the board and went on to defend the total successfully to bag their third win of the season. It was CSK's first win under Dhoni after his return as captain of the side this season.

The atmosphere was electric at the MCA Stadium in Pune as CSK fans thronged the stadium in huge numbers to see Dhoni return as skipper of the four-time champions. Dhoni had received a huge reception from the fans when he walked out to bat at number three after the dismissal of Gaikwad during CSK's innings.

The cheers didn't die down even when CSK were out on the field defending the 203-run target during SRH's run chase. SRH superstar Nicholas Pooran was left in awe of the unreal love that Dhoni gets from his fans across India. The West Indies batter said it was one of the moments he would never forget in his career.

It has been a musical chair when it comes to captaincy in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp in IPL 2022 edition. Just two days prior to IPL&nbsp;15's commencement, MS Dhoni resigned as captain and Ravindra Jadeja was named his successor. After eight games, with CSK losing six of them and languishing at the penultimate position in the points table, Jadeja gave up captaincy and requested Dhoni to take over once again.

With Dhoni back at the helm, CSK returned to winning ways and claimed their third game of the season with a 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 46 of IPL 2022, at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday evening (May 01). Being asked to bat first, CSK rode on Ruturaj Gaikwad's 99 and Devon Conway's 85 not out to post 202/2 on a batting surface.

In reply, SRH posted 189-6 with a blistering 33-ball 64 and skipper Kane Williamson's 47 but lost the plot in the middle overs with the ball turning and gripping a bit. One stand-out thing was that Jadeja played and bowled with a free mind, returning with 3-0-15-0, whereas Dhoni also looked at his usual best by guiding his bowlers and remaining proactive behind the stumps as captain.

When asked about the change of captaincy in the CSK camp, Dhoni explained the entire scenario and shared how the added responsibility took a toll on Jadeja. At the post-match presentation, he said, "Between me and Jadeja, he knew last season itself that he will be given a chance to captain this year. He knew and got enough time to prepare, what is important is you want him to lead the side and I wanted that transition to happen. In the first 2 games, there was information going in towards 'Jaddu' and after that I left it to him to decide which angle to bowl and all that," Dhoni opined.
