Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has called the comparisons between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) useless insisting that PSL should focus on doing the best with the available resources. IPL, which is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world has often been pitted against other T20 tournaments across the globe, including PSL.

Ever since its inception in 2008, IPL has gone on to become one of the best T20 leagues in the world attracting the best players from across the globe. In terms of both quality and finances, IPL stands tall among the best T20 leagues in the world. However, since the introduction of the PSL, several former Pakistan cricketers have made comparisons between the two leagues.

Butt believes the comparisons between IPL and PSL are useless as there is a vast difference in the quality of cricket and the finances involved. The former Pakistan captain also advised PCB to maintain their limits and try to make proper utilisation of whatever resources are available to them.

"To develop animosity with players or aspire to be like IPL, is useless and has no logic behind it. It's better to calm down and maintain your limits. The limits are whatever resources we have, we are doing our best. The franchises are trying their best and have given players extra money numerous times," Butt said in a YouTube video.

"I feel both leagues take care of their players well enough and nobody has complained about the PSL. PSL makes 70% advance payment. Hence, it is not short of any goodness. However, we can only spend so much and we should look at it that way. It makes no sense to compare it constantly," he added.

The 15th edition of IPL is currently underway in India with as many as ten teams taking part in the tournament. IPL 2022 has been a massive success as it has made the league more competitive after the introduction of two new teams. There have been a number of nail-biting encounters already with a number of Indian and overseas players doing well for their respective franchises.

'Better to calm down & maintain limits': Ex-Pakistan captain on 'useless' comparisons between IPL and PSL

MS Dhoni enjoys a massive fan base worldwide. On Sunday evening (May 01), Dhoni returned as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain -- after Ravindra Jadeja stepped down a day before -- as the four-time champions took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 46 of IPL 2022 edition, at the MCA Stadium, Pune.

Dhoni-led CSK were asked to bat first. Riding on Ruturaj Gaikwad's 99 and Devon Conway's 85 not out, the defending champions posted 202-2 and defended the total with Kane Williamson's SRH restricted to 189-6, courtesy of Nicholas Pooran's 64* and Williamson's 47. With this, CSK keep their playoffs hopes alive -- even though by the barest of margins -- and their loyal fans rejoiced seeing Dhoni return as the skipper.

Dhoni has a solid fan following across the globe. Apart from finishing off with 17,266 international runs, 16 tons, 108 half-centuries, 634 catches and 195 stumpings and leading India to all three major ICC titles and being their finisher, the 40-year-old is also the face of CSK. He has guided them to as many as four IPL trophies and two Champions League titles. In addition, he has most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in the cash-rich league and has amassed nearly 4,900 runs.

Thus, even former and active cricketers remain in awe of Dhoni's talent, skills and overall demeanour. Hence, after the SRH-CSK encounter, Hyderbad's pace bowling coach Dale Steyn -- a former No. 1 Test bowler -- asked for Dhoni's autograph. The 38-year-old South African went up to the CSK skipper and asked for his autograph as the picture has gone viral:

Seasoned Suryakumar Yadav and young Tilak Varma gave the best 35th birthday present to their skipper Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians finally opened their account, beating Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in an IPL match here on Saturday.

Chasing a victory target of 159, MI reached home in 19.2 overs, courtesy Surya (51 off 39 balls) and Tilak (35 off 30 balls) adding 81 for the third wicket.

It was MI's first win after eight successive defeats and even though the result bears little consequence but it is certainly going to keep the five-time champions in a good mind space.

Losing is also a kind of habit like winning, albeit a bad one, as with it self belief also goes out of the window. Rohit didn't look one bit of his cheery self when he was cutting his birthday cake and by the end of the day, a win must have felt like a healing balm.

Teams then manage to snatch defeat from jaws of victory and something of that order was happening on Saturday night before Surya and Tilak sang the redemption song with Tim David (20 not out off 9 balls) providing the finishing touch.

It was Daniel Sams who hit the winning six to send the spectators into a frenzy.

Rohit's run of poor scores continued as he tried a slog sweep off Ravichandran Ashwin (4-0-21-1) and offered an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at square leg.

The price tag of Rs 15.25 crore is increasingly seeming like a noose around Ishan Kishan's (26 of 18 balls) neck as he started well but in desperation to over-compensate mis-timed a pull-shot.

Surya was once again smooth in his strokeplay and so was MI's most consistent player of the season Tilak, whose lofted six was a delightful watch.

The duo took its own time to first settle down, taking the team's score to 75 in first 10 overs and set an ideal platform to knock off the remaining 82 off back-10.

Since there wasn't scoreboard pressure, Surya and Tilak were able to keep the momentum going with singles and doubles while waiting for the occasional loose ball.

Surya brought up his fifty with a muscular six over wide long-on off Ashwin's last delivery off his spell.
Tilak followed suit with his second six but soon after both the batters fell going for unnecessary big shots when it wasn't the need of the hour.

From 122 for two, MI slumped to 122 for 4 with Pollard and David at the crease.
Earlier, Buttler threatened to hit six sixes in an over but managed four on the bounce in his 52-ball-67 as

Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 158 for six by Mumbai Indians in a what was a below par batting show.

Buttler wasn't in his element for the better part of the innings before launching into rookie off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen, hitting him for four consecutive sixes between the long-on to long-off arc.

He holed out in the deep in the final ball of the 16th over as MI prevented the England marauder to cause more damage at the death.

Shokeen, who had bowled flat and tight in the previous games, looked like a lamb for slaughter conceding 47 in 3 overs which included half a dozen of sixes, forcing him to come round the wicket but that was of little benefit.

In nine games so far, Buttler has already amassed 566 runs at an average which is northwards of 70 and a strike-rate of 155 plus.

But on the day, MI attack performed way better than they have in the initial games with new inductee left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya being extremely impressive in his first outing on the big stage.

The best bowler on the day for MI was Aussie pacer Riley Meredith, who had best figures of 2 for 24 in stipulated quota of four overs, cleverly mixing variety of slower deliveries during couple of spells. He gave only three runs in the 20th over.

Debutant Kartikeya (4-0-19-1) had nine dot balls, the prize wicket of rival skipper Sanju Samson, who had by then hit a couple of sixes off Shokeen and more importantly in 24 deliveries conceded just a single boundary which spoke volumes about his temperament.

Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets to register first win of IPL 2022

Rajasthan Royals will be looking to continue their winning run while Mumbai Indians will be in hunt for their first win of the season as they face each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Saturday. RR are currently second in the points table while MI are struggling at the last spot.

Head-to-head

The two sides have faced each other 25 times in total and Mumbai Indians hold a slim 13-12 lead over Rajasthan Royals. However, the record has been completely one-sided since 2018 as RR have won six out of nine encounters against MI – the best show by any side against the five-time winners.

Stats

The spin partnership of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin can be bad news for Kieron Pollard as he averages below 20 against both of them and the duo has dismissed him five times each. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has a brilliant record against the destructive RR opener Jos Buttler who averages just 12.25 against the Indian fast bowlers with four dismissals.

Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2022: Head-to-head, stats, trivia and predicted XIs

When Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided to retain young fast bowler Umran Malik ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, a lot of experts were not convinced by the move. But the youngster from Srinagar has proven his mettle with brilliant performances in this year’s competition.

Umran has been enjoying an impressive run of form and against Gujarat Titans, he claimed his first five-wicket haul of the tournament as batsmen struggle to negotiate his express pace. The 22-year-old ended with figures of 5/25 and entered history books with a number of accolades to his name.

Four out of Umran’s five dismissals were bowled and this was only the third instance in IPL history that a bowler has achieve this feat. Lasith Malinga was the first one to achieve this for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals in 2011 and the very next year, Rajasthan Royals medium pacer Siddharth Trivedi became the second bowler to do it against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

It has also the second-best bowling figures by a Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler in the tournament second only to veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The top spot belongs to a magical spell by Bhuvi as he claimed five wickets after conceding just 18 runs in four overs against Punjab Kings in 2017.

This has been a sensational season for Umran till now as he has already claimed 15 wickets in the competition, and he is currently the second highest wicket-taker against RR’s Yuzvendra Chahal.

However, the five-wicket haul was not enough to grab the win for SRH as Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia played blinders towards the end of the encounter to grab the victory for Gujarat Titans.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh recently picked his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) playing XI consisting of some of the biggest names to have played the game. Harbhajan, who himself is one of the best spinners in the history of the league, named the legendary MS Dhoni as the captain of his star-studded XI.

Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in IPL history having led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to four titles and a staggering nine finals since the inception of the tournament in 2008. The 40-year-old stepped down from captaincy at CSK ahead of the start of the ongoing IPL 2022 and is currently playing as a wicket-keeper batter for the four-time champions.

Dhoni had handed over the baton to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after signing off as one of the greatest leaders of all time in the IPL. Apart from Dhoni, Harbhajan also picked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - the two Indian batting giants in his all-time IPL XI. Both Kohli and Rohit are among the top five run-getters in the league.

Harbhajan named Rohit as his second opener along with the legendary Chris Gayle, who is also one of the greats of the IPL and has an incredible record in the league. Gayle, who is not part of the ongoing IPL 2022, has amassed 4965 runs in 142 IPL matches at an average of close to 40 and a strike rate of over 148.

In the middle order, Harbhajan picked another IPL great in AB de Villiers along with former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson and Dhoni. He also picked his former CSK teammate Jadeja at the no.7 spot. Jadeja has been one of the best all-rounders in the league since its inception and is currently leading CSK.

Harbhajan also picked Kieron Pollard in the finisher's role while naming Jasprit Bumrah and the legendary Lasith Malinga as the two pure fast bowlers in his team. Malinga was the leading wicket-taker of all time in IPL before his record was surpassed by Dwayne Bravo this season. Sunil Narine is the lone spinner in Harbhajan's all time IPL XI.

The cricketing action will continue in IPL 2022 as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will lock horns with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 39 of the ongoing season. The match is set to be held at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune. The venue will return as host in IPL 15 after a long gap ever since the Covid cases rose up in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp (shifting two games from Pune to Mumbai).

This will be the third reverse fixture of the season as RCB and RR have already squared off with each other earlier in IPL 15. Back then, the match went down to the wire before Dinesh Karthik-Shahbad Ahmed's finishing knocks propelled RCB to an emphatic four-wicket win in pursuit of a competitive 170. The game was held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Talking about their current form, RCB are coming into this fixture on the back of a disastrous outing versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where they were bundled out for 68. Thus, they will like to start afresh and come hard against RR, against whom they have been unbeaten in the last five face-offs. RCB still have a solid chance of qualifying for the playoffs, with five wins from eight games. However, they cannot afford to lose grip in the crunch phase of the league stage. They occupy the fifth spot at present.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan are in the third position with five victories from seven outings. While they have had a good run so far, they will like to find answers against Bengaluru to stop the three-time runners-up's dominance over them.

Sameen Rana, who is the owner of Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Qalandars, praised the young fast bowler and compared his rise to Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf.

"I am very happy that Lahore Qalandars have not just impressed Pakistan cricket but also Indian cricket. If you look at Umran Malik's story, you will see that it has been a Haris Rauf-inspired story. Maybe they had followed Haris' story and must have thought if it can happen in Pakistan, then why not in India. Because there are a lot of similarities. Both started from tennis-ball cricket, are from Jammu and Kashmir, no background in first-class cricket," Rana told Paktv.tv in an interview.

Malik said that both Malik and Rauf did not have any first-class cricket experience before making it big and hinted that the story of Rauf may have inspired India to try out a similar experiment.

"I have never seen that happen in IPL before. And it happened until Haris, who became a success and gave others a new pathway. I hope it doesn't happen to Umran, but we were criticised a lot when Haris was in our team that we killed domestic cricket and affected the sport. But today, he is Pakistan's pride. When he goes abroad and plays for teams like Yorkshire, they call him 'Pakistani superstar'. So, we have given cricketers a new pathway and I want to take credit for that," he added.

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds recently recalled how his huge contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) strained his relationship with teammate Michael Clarke. Symonds revealed he used to share a great bond with Clarke but the relationship between the duo went downhill after the inception of IPL in 2008.

Symonds was the second-most expensive player in the IPL 2008 auction where he was roped in by now-defunct Deccan Chargers for USD 1.35 million at the time. His price was only behind MS Dhoni, who was sold to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Symonds was one of the star players bought by Deccan Chargers, who had also signed the likes of Adam Gilchrist, VVS Laxman and Shahid Afridi among others. The former Australian all-rounder believes jealousy cropped up in his relationship with Clarke after he was sold for a big amount at the IPL 2008 auction which strained their bond.

“We became close. When he (Clarke) came into the side, I used to bat with him a lot. So when he came into the side, I really looked after him. That built a bond,” Symonds was quoted as saying on the Brett Lee podcast.

“Matthew Hayden said to me — when the IPL started, I got a pretty penny to go and play in the IPL — he identified it as there was a bit of jealousy that potentially came into the relationship (with Clarke) there," added the former Aussie all-rounder.

Symonds further stated that money in the IPL poisoned his relationship with Clarke who used to be his good friend but he is comfortable with the fact that they don't share the bond anymore and said he doesn't want to dig up the past. Symonds and Clarke were part of the Australian dressing room for quite a few years.

“Money does funny things. It’s a good thing but it can be a poison and I reckon it may have poisoned our relationship. I’ve got enough respect for him to probably not go into detail about what was said. My friendship with him is no longer and I’m comfortable with that, but I’m not gonna sit here and start slinging mud,” Symonds added.

While Symonds was the second most expensive player at the IPL 2008 auction, Clarke was not a part of it. Symonds later also went on to play for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He played a total of 39 matches in the T20 league, amassing 974 runs at an average of 36.07 with the help of a century and five fifties.

Clarke, on the other hand, made his IPL debut for now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2012. He played only six matches in the season before being dropped. Clarke, however, went on to achieve success at the international stage as he led Australia to a ODI World Cup triumph in 2015.

Match 34 of the IPL 2022 edition will see the one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) take on the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday evening (April 22). The match has been shifted from MCA Stadium, Pune to Mumbai in the wake of the Covid crisis in the Delhi camp.

Talking about the fortunes of both sides so far, the Rajasthan franchise have won four out of six games and are sitting at the third position in the points table. On the other hand, Delhi have won and lost three games each to be languishing at the sixth position. However, both sides are coming into this fixture on the back of a win in their last outings.

The RR franchise have been impressive so far. Their top order has been on fire, particularly due to Jos Buttler's red-hot form. Buttler already has two centuries and a half-century and, thus, will be desperate to move on in a similar stead in the remaining season. Skipper Sanju Samson was again blown hot and cold but has looked in good touch mostly. Shimron Hetmyer has been excellent as a finisher whereas they also have enough firepower in the bowling department.

Here's predicting RR's XI for DC encounter:

Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal will continue to open the innings with captain Samson at No. 3. Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag will follow suit. Playing Karun Nair at No. 6 doesn't make much sense as he is more of a top-order batter. It will be interesting to see if they continue with him at the same position or shuffle the batting order (or bring back Yashasvi Jaiswal). The rest of the line-up will be followed by the bowlers, such as R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, Yuzvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna.

RR remain a bowler-short and will benefit immensely by adding an all-rounder at the expense of Karun Nair. Nonetheless, their foreign players seem more or less certain at the moment (which took the field versus KKR). Hence, they are more likely to go unchanged and will expect their main batters and bowlers to continue to do the job.

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday (April 19).

Kohli, who is struggling with a poor form with the bat as compared to what he is capable of, lost his wicket to Dushmantha Chameera. Credits to a simple catch by Deepak Hooda.

A ball before, Chameera dismissed opener Anuj Rawat, who scored four runs before KL Rahul took a fine diving catch in the first over.

IPL 2022: Updated points table after Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal was the star performer for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the Sanju Samson-led franchise beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by three runs to end the debutant team's three-match winning streak, on Sunday evening (April 10) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

As RR were asked to bat first, they were struggling at 67-4 before Shimron Hetmyer's 59 propelled the team score to 165-6. While Trent Boult's opening spell put RR ahead in their defence of 166, Yuzi Chahal rose to the occasion to strike at regular intervals and leave LSG behind in the contest. While Chahal had a memorable day with his performances making a mark, his anger at the umpire also made heads turn.

The incident took place when the 31-year-old wrist-spinner came onto bowl the 18th over. The RR spinner resorted to a leg break which was pitched outside off-stump, with Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera going for a slog sweep and missing it completely. While it seemed fairly evident that the ball was within the marker when it passed the stumps, it was adjudged a wide by the on-field umpire. Thus, this left Chahal lose his cool and argue with the umpire:

IPL 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal loses his temper at the umpire during RR vs LSG encounter – Watch

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently made a shocking revelation about being bullied by a teammate during his stint with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013. Chahal had made his IPL debut for the Rohit Sharma-led side back in 2013. The leg-spinner revealed he faced a near-death experience during a team geat-together.

Recalling the horrific incident, Chahal revealed a Mumbai Indians teammate dangled him from the balcony on the 15th floor after "getting drunk". Chahal opened up about the incident during a freewheeling chat with his current Rajasthan Royals and India teammate R Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

Reacting to Chahal's shocking revelations, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has demanded strict action against the offender. Shastri said there was 'no laughing matter at all' in what Chahal revealed and that such a person should be sent to rehab, and not allowed on a cricket field.

"No laughing matter at all. I do not know who the person involved is, he was not in a conscious state of mind. If that is the case, then it is a big worry. When you are in such a state trying something like that, the chances of mistakes are even more. It is not acceptable at all," Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo.

"It is the first time I am hearing such a drastic thing like this. It is not funny at all. If such an incident happens today, a life ban for that person involved and send that person to a rehab centre as quickly as possible. Life ban, better not come near to a cricket field then he will realise how funny is it or not funny," he added.

IPL 2022: Former Pakistan skipper praises Dinesh Karthik for Royal Challengers Bangalore heroics

Veteran Indian batter Robin Uthappa has revealed he was completely into depression and was not at all in the right mental space during his first season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Uthappa was part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 but was later transferred to RCB.

During a conversation with Indian spinner R Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Uthappa revealed he didn't want to go to RCB from the Mumbai Indians but someone at MI told him that he is unlikely to get a chance to play for the franchise if he decided to stay and not opt for the transfer.

Uthappa revealed he battled depression during IPL 2009 which was his first season with RCB and his mental space also affected his performances on the field. Uthappa recalled how he had a mediocre season for RCB and was able to do well in just one game for his side.

"I was going through something in my personal life and I was completely into depression during my first season with RCB. I didn't play well even for one game that season. The only game in which I did well was when I was dropped and picked again. I played thinking that I really needed to do something in this match. Someone from MI had told me that if I didn't sign the transfer papers, I'd not get to play in the XI for MI," Uthappa told Ashwin.

"I feel like I played during the best phase of RCB. It was a phase in IPL where the first year was a lot of fun because everyone was finding ground. I think from the second year onwards, it became really big.

So, I was along with Zaheer Khan and Manish Pandey. I was one of the first people to be transferred in IPL. For me, it became extremely difficult because my loyalties were completely laid out with MI at that point. It happened a month before the IPL and I refused to sign the transfer papers," he added.

Uthappa managed to score only 175 runs in 15 matches for RCB in IPL 2009 at an average strike rate of 102.94. However, he bounced back to form next season with 374 runs in the campaign. Uthappa enjoyed his best time at Kolkata Knight Riders under Gautam Gambhir.

He was part of the KKR squad which won the IPL title twice in 2012 and 2014. Uthappa moved to Chennai Super Kings last year and went on to win the title with the MS Dhoni-led side. He is currently part of the CSK squad under their new skipper Ravindra Jadeja and has done well so far in IPL 2022.

Match 13 of the IPL 2022 edition saw the one-time winners and table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday (April 5). In a game that went down to the wire, Sanju Samson-led RR franchise lost their first game of the 15th season, to lose by four wickets in defence of 170.

Riding on in-form opener Jos Buttler's 47-ball 70* and Shimron Hetmyer's unbeaten 42, RR posted a competitive 169-3 after being asked to bat first. In reply, RCB were on the mat, at 87 for 5, before Dinesh Karthik's 23-ball 44 not out and Shahbaz Ahmed's 45 took the Bengaluru franchise home in a crunch encounter.

Reflecting on the match, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar questioned RR skipper Samson's tactics for his field placements for in-form finisher DK. "You have to ask questions of Sanju Samson. He's just brought that man in, the man who was there at deep mid-wicket. Knowing that this is one of Dinesh Karthik's strengths, going across outside the off-stump and playing the ball in," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

"Okay, not sweetly on the middle of the bat. But still, if you swung the bat hard enough, even if you get an inside edge, it's gonna race away to the boundary. That is not good captaincy. If you don't have fielders protecting you over there and you bowl this delivery on the middle and leg, a slower delivery halfway down the pitch, to such an experienced, such an innovative batsman like Dinesh Karthik, it's going to go," he opined.

"As a bowling unit you like to take your time and set your fields. Lot of positives to take, and we can learn a lot of things, too. We would like to take our time as a bowling unit. But there was nothing, no confusion on the field, I can say that," added Gavaskar.

Many former cricketers and experts of the game also slammed Samson for not wisely rotating his bowlers and bringing back Yuzvendra Chahal (who returned with 2 for 15) early during the DK-Shahbaz match-winning 67-run sixth-wicket stand.

Despite the defeat, RR remain atop in the points table.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best T20 league in the world at present. It's also become one of the most popular sporting tournaments in the world and the media rights for the upcoming 2022-27 cycle are set to fetch the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a staggering amount of money. IPL media rights for the next five-year cycle are set to be auctioned in the second week of June this year.

The BCCI has already released the Invitation-To-Tender (ITT) for the sale of IPL 2023-27 media rights and several big names have expressed interest in joining the battle for the broadcast rights. Star currently holds IPL's media rights for the 2018-22 cycle which was bought for Rs 16,347.5 crore (Approx 2.1 billion USD) back in 2018.

As per a report in the Times of India, companies like Disney, Amazon, Sony, Zee and TV18-Viacom have already bought the ITT document as they look set to join the battle for the IPl 2023-27 media rights deal. The report also adds that American tech giant Apple is also expected to pick the ITT next week and compete with others for IPL's media rights.

May 10 is the deadline for the companies to purchase the ITT following which the BCCI will spend a month in evaluating the tender documents. The IPL media rights will be sold via an e-auction in the second week of June and the Indian cricket board is expected to fetch a revenue of a staggering 7.2 billion USD from the deal.

The BCCI is likely to earn almost three times the amount it had when IPL media rights were sold for the ongoing 2018-22 cycle. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the revenue coming from the media rights deal will be invested to improve the domestic cricket infrastructure in India.

"Transparency will be the key and the revenues coming from sale or rights will be directed to India's domestic structure, better infrastructure and welfare of the cricketing fraternity," BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said.

The BCCI has packaged the IPL media rights deal into four separate buckets this time around. The package has been divided into the following categories - A) Television rights for India subcontinent; B) Digital rights; C) A cluster of 18 matches (season opener, four playoffs and evening matches of the double-headers on weekends); D) Rest of the world.

All eligible companies will have to bid separately for each category and the base price of the overall package has been set at Rs Rs 32,890 crore (Approximately 4.2 billion USD) by the BCCI. However, the bidding war between the big names is likely to earn the Indian cricket board significantly more than the base price.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja broke his silence on opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after the side's loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their third game of the season on Sunday. Punjab Kings thrashed CSK by 61 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to hand the defending champions their third straight loss of the season.

Gaikwad's poor run with the bat continued against Punjab Kings as he once again failed to get his side off to a great start. Asked to chase a big target of 181 runs, CSK got off to the worst possible start as Gaikwad departed on just 1 off 4 balls and was dismissed in the second over of the game.

His opening partner Robin Uthappa too departed cheaply on 13 off 10 balls in the next over as CSK suffered a top-order collapse. Gaikwad has managed to score only 2 runs in the first three matches of CSK this season and his struggles at the top have cost the defending champions dearly.

Speaking about his rough patch, CSK skipper Jadeja said Gaikwad needs to be given confidence and backed by the team as he is a talented batter.

"We lost too many wickets in the powerplay, we didn't find the momentum from ball one. We need to find a way to get better and come back stronger. We need to give him confidence, we need to back him, we all know that he's a very good player. We'll definitely back him and I am sure that he'll come good," Jadeja said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

After a top-order collapse on Sunday, CSK never managed to get back into the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shivam Dube (57) and MS Dhoni (23) made a desperate attempt to get their team back into the hunt but their efforts were not enough as CSK were bundled out for a paltry 126 runs.

CSK have now lost their first three matches in a row this season and are yet to secure their first two points in what has been a disastrous start to their title defence campaign.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Lasith Malinga: A look at bowlers with most maiden overs in IPL history

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja had recently shared his views on revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by introducing an auction system like the Indian Premier League (IPL) to ensure it can be put in the same bracket as the Indian league.

Raja had also claimed that no player would prefer IPL over PSL once the auction-based model is adopted in Pakistan's domestic T20 tournament. The PCB chief had faced ire from Indian fans on social media after his "we'll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL" comment.

IPL which got underway in 2008 is currently the best T20 league in the world in terms of both quality of cricket and the finances involved. The cash-rich league is into its 15th edition and has been witnessing immense growth with each passing season. Several former Pakistan cricketers have often tried to pit PSL up against IPL and made comparisons between the two tournaments.

In order to make PSL compete against IPL, PCB chief Raja plans to bring in changes in the rules of the competition. Speaking about the same in an interview last month, Raja had said - "This is a game of money. When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL."

He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Raja said he has plans to improve PSL but was misquoted on the other part.

"I was misquoted. I know where economy of India is and where is Pakistan's. We have plans to improve the PSL. We will bring in the auction model but I was misquoted on the other part," said the PCB chief.

Raja is also set to formally present the proposal of a four-nation T20I series involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England. Raja had first shared the idea of the four-nation series after the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and believes India and Pakistan should play at the international level more often.

"I don't know how the ICC members will receive it but how long can we allow ourselves to be dictated by politics between countries," Raja told Cricbuzz. "Star Sports had made a presentation at the last ICC board meeting where it said the India-Pakistan game at the Twenty20 World Cup broke all viewership records. Why don't we have more of what the fans want," said Raja.

India and Pakistan have not played against each other in a bilateral series since 2013 due to the political tensions between the two nations. The two countries have continued to meet only in major ICC competitions since 2013.

The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL." He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present.
