India and New Zealand locked horns with each other in the third and final T20I at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday evening (November 21). After taking an unassailable lead in the three T20Is, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue gave opportunities to more players and tested themselves by batting first as the hosts do not have a great record when it comes to defending totals.

Batting first, Rohit's 56 and vital contributions from the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shreyas and Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar propelled India's total to 184-7 in 20 overs. In reply, the Mitchell Santner-led Black Caps folded for a paltry 111 in 17.2 overs as Harshal and Axar Patel combined to take five wickets and derail the T20 World Cup finalists' run-chase.

The Rahul Dravid-coached team, thus, ended the series on a high with sparkling performances from many, in the form of Rohit, KL Rahul, Harshal, Axar, Deepak, R Ashwin, etc. Nonetheless, the former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra isn't impressed with one Indian youngster post the NZ series. For the unversed, Rishabh Pant registered scores of 17*, 12*, and 4 in the three-match series against the Black Caps and, hence, Chopra pointed out that the 24-year-old didn't look at his usual best.

Chopra told speaking on his YouTube channel, "The middle-lower order is still a concern because Rishabh Pant hasn't really batted the way we wanted him to bat. He hasn't batted the way he can bat, you expect more from him. The runs come from his bat, he hits sixes as well but I feel he hasn't yet fully cracked the T20 code, which is a bit of a disappointment. He is absolutely sensational in Tests, it is the format he has cracked easily but he is still figuring out his ways in the other formats."

He hasn't batted the way he can: Aakash Chopra names Indian star who disappointed him in NZ T20Is

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made his comeback in the T20I side for the recently-concluded three-match series against New Zealand at home. One of India's most successful operators in T20Is, Chahal was surprisingly left out of the squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 as the likes of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakaravarthy made the cut over him.

However, the willy leg spinner is back in the squad and was seen in action during the third and final T20I against the Black Caps on Sunday (November 21). However, Chahal was not the star of the show for India on his return as Axar Patel grabbed the limelight with his bowling heroics.

Axar picked up a three-wicket haul to help India bundle out New Zealand on a paltry 111 runs in reply to India's total of 184 runs and power the hosts to a massive 73-run win. Chahal also bowled well and conceded only 26 runs in his 4 overs while picking up a solitary wicket.

After his return in the T20I squad, veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has backed Chahal to deliver consistently for India under Rohit's captaincy. Karthik also backed the spinner to make it to India's T20 World Cup 2022 squad and said Rohit trusts the leg spinner, who has 64 wickets in 50 T20Is for India.

"He's very good at bowling abroad as well so that is a very important attribute to keep in mind when India travels to play the World Cup in Australia. I have no doubt, to be honest, that he'll be there on that flight to Australia. He'll want to make amends and also I know Rohit trusts him a lot," Karthik told Cricbuzz.

Karthik also recalled an instance from the Nidahas Trophy in 2018 when Chahal had come up to captain Rohit and asked if he wanted him to attack or defend against Upul Tharanga, who was going hard at the bowlers. Rohit asked him to get his wicket and Chahal dismissed the Lankan batter with a tossed up delivery.

"I remember one instance in the Nidhas Trophy when Upul Tharanga was going hard at the spinners and Chahal came and asked him, 'Do you think I should bowl defensively or should I try and attack?" He (Rohit) said, "Definitely I want his wicket, if you get hit for five sixes I don't care, try and get his wicket." That's exactly what he did. He tossed the ball on the stumps, he (Tharanga) went for a wild slog and got bowled," Karthik recalled.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir feels Ajinkya Rahane is quite fortunate to still be part of the Indian Test team ahead of the start of the home series against New Zealand. India registered a 3-0 clean sweep against the Kiwis in the just-concluded three-match T20I series on Sunday and the focus will now shift towards Tests.

Gambhir argued that Rahane, who has not been in great form of late, has managed to retain his spot in the Test squad only because he will be leading the team in the first Test against New Zealand. With skipper Virat Kohli skipping the series-opener, vice-captain Rahane will be in charge of the team.

Senior opener Rohit Sharma, who has taken over as T20I captain of Team India and led the side to a 3-0 clean sweep against the Black Caps, will also miss the Test series and take a break. Rohit was in line to captain the team in the longest format as well in Kohli's absence but will miss the two-match series that gets underway from Thursday.

Gambhir recently picked India's batting line-up for the first Test against New Zealand and said he will open with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. He picked Shubman Gill to bat at no.4 with Rahane in the middle-order. Gambhir said the New Zealand series will be a chance for Rahane to cement his spot in the side.

"I am going to open with Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul because he opened in England and then probably Shubman Gill will bat at No. 4," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

"That's what I would want to see and plus Rahane is pretty fortunate that he's still part of this side because he's leading... But again he's got another opportunity now, hopefully, he can make that count," he added.

India beat New Zealand by 73 runs in the third and final T20I, in Kolkata, to inflict a clean sweep on the second-stringed Black Caps. While Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were also without some of their superstar cricketers, such as Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, the onus was on the youngsters and the uncapped players.

The likes of Ishan Kishan, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Venkatesh Iyer, etc. were expected to make a mark as Rahul Dravid-era (with the former Indian captain taking over as head coach) finally commenced in Indian cricket.

While many Indian youngsters and debutants impressed, the 30-year-old Harshal has been having a dream run in 2021. After ending with 32 scalps in IPL 2021, for the Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Harshal impressed as he returned with the Player-of-the-Match award on debut (in the second T20I) whereas also ended with a handy cameo with the bat and a two-fer in the final T20I.

However, Harshal made heads turn by getting dismissed 'hit wicket' during his 11-ball 18. The pace-bowling all-rounder became the second Indian, after KL Rahul, to get dismissed in this fashion in the shortest format. Here's the video of Harshal's 'hit wicket' dismissal:

WATCH: BIZARRE! Team India's Harshal Patel gets dismissed 'hit wicket' vs NZ during Kolkata T20I

Team India have already sealed the ongoing three-match T20I series against New Zealand with back-to-back wins in the first two matches and will be hoping to register a clean sweep against the Kiwis when they lock horns in the third and final T20I in Kolkata on Sunday (November 21).

India will be keen to test their bench strength in the dead-rubber as captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid are off to a winning start in their first major assignment. After a close 4-wicket win in the series-opener, India defeated New Zealand comprehensively by seven wickets in the second encounter to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Debutant Harshal Patel shone in the death overs and bowled an excellent spell conceding only 25 runs while picking up two wickets of his overs. While R Ashwin continued his impeccable run with the ball and delivered yet another stunning spell of 1/19 in his four overs. The duo helped India restrict New Zealand on 153 in 20 overs.

Openers KL Rahul and Rohit went all guns blazing in the run chase as the duo slammed half-centuries apiece to put on a 117-run stand for the first wicket and set up a comfortable win for India. While Rahul notched up a classy 65 off 49 balls, Rohit scored a quickfire 55 off 36 balls to help India get over the line with 16 balls to spare.

India will be hoping to produce a repeat of their performance from the second T20I in the dead-rubber at the Eden Gardens on Sunday as they aim to make it three wins in a row against the T20 World Cup 2021 finalists. But the hosts will be tempted to give chances to new faces having already sealed the series.

The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan might get a chance to showcase their skills and talent in the final encounter. Rahul might have to sit out if Gaikwad opens the batting while Avesh might come in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

IND vs NZ, 3rd T20I prediction: Who will win today's match between India and New Zealand in Kolkata?

'Absolutely, you need a break," said Jasprit Bumrah in the aftermath of India's loss against New Zealand in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021, when asked if the team would have preferred a bigger break between the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and the start of the World Cup in the UAE.

India's campaign got underway less than two weeks after the conclusion of IPL 2021 and it didn't take long for the players to realise the implications of having spent months playing continuous cricket in bio-bubbles across the world. In the past year, the 'new normal' as the bio bubble life has often been labelled as, has taken a massive toll on the mental health of cricketers.

It all started in August last year when the IPL got underway in the UAE after a long hiatus due to COVID-19. The challenges of living in a bubble were quite evident right from the beginning but the excitement of cricket returning after a long gap meant the ill effects were ignored.

But, as India's campaign derailed in the T20 World Cup, the mental health of the players took centre stage. As much as the form and priorities of each player were discussed in the aftermath of India's consecutive defeats in their first two Super 12 matches, mental health was one of the decisive factors in the team's poor start.

Mental health has never been taken as seriously in cricket as it has been in the past few months after the introduction of 'bio-bubbles' to combat the invisible virus. From Ben Stokes taking a break to Indian players and support staff talking openly of the fatigue caused by the bubble life, mental health has become one of the biggest talking points in cricket post COVID-19.

India's campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 was all but over after their back-to-back defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand in the first two games but they hung on till the end. Only to eventually bow out despite winning the remaining three matches comprehensively.

While they didn't bring home the second T20 World Cup trophy but the tournament did enough to awaken the senses of Indian cricket which has for long ignored mental health and the issues surrounding it. India are one of the most active teams in world cricket and excessive cricket in these tough times can easily become mentally challenging for even the toughest of characters.

Here is a look at how much rest did each of the Indian players got ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021:

Before we start looking at the amount of rest each of the 15 members of the Indian T20 World Cup 2021 squad got ahead of the tournament, we need to take into account the common break periods for the team since IPL 2020.

The IPL 2020 final was played on November 10 and the Indian team had almost no break ahead of the Australia tour which kicked off on November 27 and lasted till January 19 2021. India got a six-day break before the start of the England series at home.

The team then got a break of two weeks after the cancellation of IPL 2021 in May ahead of the England tour and a 21-day break in England in between the World Test Championship final and the start of the Test series. Each of the 15 players were part of the IPL bio bubble in April-May and then September-October.

Here is a look at how much rest did each of the Indian players got ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021: Before we start looking at the amount of rest each of the 15 members of the Indian T20 World Cup 2021 squad got ahead of the tournament, we need to take into account the common break periods for the team since IPL 2020. Too much cricket for Team India? Who got how much rest before T20 World Cup 2021

New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan has labelled the ongoing T20I series between hosts India and New Zealand 'meaningless'. McClenaghan made the remark while responding to a taunt from a fan, who reminded him that the T20 World Cup 2021 finalists have lost the series against India after back-to-back defeats in the first two matches.

India won a close encounter by four wickets to get off to a winning start in the series before clinching the second T20I comprehensively by seven wickets on Friday to make it two wins in a row. India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead and have sealed the three-match series with the third and final T20I being a dead rubber.

McClenaghan, who is quite active on social media and keeps engaging with fans on the micro-blogging site, seemed quite upset when a fan taunted him over New Zealand's series loss. "New Zealand lose series," a fan wrote in a tweet. Responding to him, McClenaghan said it is a meaningless series taking place 72 hours after a T20 World Cup final with the hosts getting more rest.

“Did they? You mean in meaningless series 72 hours after a WC final defeat with 3 games in 5 days playing a team with 10 days rest in their home conditions?” McClenaghan told the fan.

New Zealand had qualified for the final of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021. However, they lost the summit clash against eventual champions Australia, who went on to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title after earning a dominating 8-wicket win in the final.

New Zealand's lost only one game in the Super 12 stage against Pakistan and won the rest of their four matches to qualify as the second-ranked team from Group 2. They defeated favourites England in the first semi-final to become the first finalists of the tournament but couldn't lift the coveted trophy.

'Meaningless series': Mitchell McClenaghan responds as fan taunts him over NZ's loss against India

Rohit Sharma has had a fabulous start to his stint as India's full-time captain in T20Is with two back-to-back wins in the ongoing series against New Zealand at home. After clinching the opener, India defeated the Kiwis by five wickets on Friday to make it two wins in a row and seal the three-match series with an unassailable lead of 2-0.

Rohit led from the front in the run chase as he notched up a match-winning half-century to help India nail down the target of 154 runs with 16 balls to spare. Rohit seems to be enjoying the added responsibilities as captain as there seems no stopping to the Hitman when it comes to his batting. He slammed a quickfire 55 off 36 balls and got India off to a brilliant start along with KL Rahul, who scored 65 off 49 deliveries.

The duo added a 117-run stand for the first wicket to set up the stage for a comfortable win for the hosts. Rohit and Rahul took the Kiwi bowlers to the cleaners at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi in what was a clinical performance from the two openers. With the help of his brilliant 55, Rohit equalled Virat Kohli for joint-most fifty-plus scores in T20Is and also achieved a couple of other milestones during the game.

A look at records created by Rohit Sharma in 2nd T20I against New Zealand:

1) Most 100+ partnerships in T20Is

Rohit Sharma overtook Pakistan's Babar Azam and New Zealand batter Martin Guptill to go on top of the list of batters involved in most 100+ stands in T20Is. Rohit and Rahul registered their fifth 100-plus stand in the shortest format which means the Hitman has now been involved in 13 such partnerships. Both Babar and Guptill have 12 hundred+ stands to their name each.

Rohit Sharma equals Virat Kohli: A look at records created by Indian skipper in 2nd T20I against New Zealand

Since 2013, Team India have entered the knockouts in every ICC event. They won the Champions Trophy in 2013, ended as runners-up in 2014 T20 World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy and inaugural World Test Championship. Further, they lost the semi-finals in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup as well as in the 2016 T20 WC.

Being the dominant force at home, winning bilateral series across formats while being on the road and having played the IPL 14 final leg in UAE, Virat Kohli's Team India entered the 2021 T20 WC as one of the strongest contenders. In addition, they entered the showpiece event as the second-best side in terms of ICC T20I rankings (still hold the same position) but failed to make it to the last four.

While such one-off blips are always inevitable, how did India manage to falter when they had all the boxes ticked? Or, did they really have all bases covered before entering the multi-nation tournament?

Before we analyse how India managed to fall like nine pins, let's go through the pros attached to the Men in Blue camp. For starters, India had a solid top three -- Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Captain Virat Kohli. In addition, they had power-hitters in abundance in the form of Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja. Moreover, all their power-hitters were able finishers as well. In the bowling department, India comprised ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, seasoned campaigner Bhuvneshwar Kumar and were bolstered by the return of R Ashwin in the spin department. 'Mystery bowler' Varun Chakravarthy and Mumbai Indians' (MI) wicket-taker Rahul Chahar also had enough experience in UAE conditions (courtesy their recent IPL stints).

The one-time winners were surely extra motivated to give a proper send-off to the outgoing coaching staff, led by Ravi Shastri, and Captain Kohli (who had already announced that the T20 WC will be his last assignment as India's skipper in the shortest format). Above all, the national side also comprised MS Dhoni -- the most successful international captain with all three major ICC titles in his cabinet -- as mentor.

HOW DID INDIA STILL MANAGE TO FALTER?

CONTINUOUS CRICKET, TIRED LEGS, BIO-BUBBLE ISSUES

For the unversed, Team India players have been super busy in the post Covid-19 era. Competitive cricket returned with IPL 2020 in the UAE. The gruelling 60 matches kept the Indian players on their toes as they returned to the 22-yard cricket strip after a long gap. In addition, they were acclimatising with the bio-bubble demands. The mega event was followed by an full-fledged Australia tour (from November 27, 2020 to January 19, 2021).

The Australia trip was followed by England's all-format tour of India in early 2021, from February 5 to March 28. Soon, IPL 14's first leg followed suit, from April 09.

The Covid-19's second wave led to this year's IPL season's postponement on May 4. Hence, it did serve as some respite for the Indian players, giving them more time before the United Kingdom tour. The original IPL 2021 schedule was supposed to end on May 30. On the other hand, India were scheduled to play the WTC final on June 18 at Southampton. Hence, their break would've been minimal given how teams have to report early for mandatory quarantines and entering a bio-bubble environment.

Let's get back to how things actually shaped up! Indian players got a break with IPL 14's postponement but had to enter the bio-bubble in Mumbai, on May 19, for UK tour. They left for the UK on June 2 and departed for the UAE, in mid-September, after the fifth and final England Test got cancelled on September 10.

Note: Indian players were given a 20-day bio-bubble break post the WTC final, before reassembling for the England Tests.

Coming to the UAE, Indian players reported to their respective IPL franchises, as the tournament lasted till October 15. Soon, India played their Super 12 opener in the T20 WC, on October 24, before they bowed out with their last league stage match on November 8.

India's cricketing schedule in post-pandemic era

India tour of Australia: Nov 27, 2020- Jan 19, 2021

England tour of India: Feb 5- March 28

IPL 14 first leg: April 9-May 4

India vs New Zealand, WTC final: June 18-23

India vs England Tests in the UK: August 4-September 10

IPL 14 final leg: Sep 19-Oct 15

T20 WC: Oct 24-Nov 8

Barring the WTC final, India dominated and enjoyed considerable success in the post Covid-era. Somewhere down the line, the law of averages was always going to catch up with them.

NOT MANAGING 'PROBLEMS OF PLENTY', QUESTIONABLE SELECTIONS, APPALLING STRATEGIES

Apart from the continuous cricket, it is important to note that India's main squad assembled for the first time in T20Is for the World Cup. They had last played together in the format during the England home series, which ended on March 28. Thus, there was a staggering gap of 201 days (counting till the IPL finale on October 15). One can argue that the Indian players were still in the T20 groove by playing in the IPL. TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE BROTH

Lastly, the whole of Indian cricket fraternity was in jubilant mood following MS Dhoni's appointment as team mentor for the mega event. After all, Dhoni had led India to their last ICC title in 2013 and enjoys huge respect among the current crop of players. As feared and already pointed out by Sunil Gavaskar, it seems it did lead to having several strong minds within the Team India dressing room, causing more ruckus in a 'problems of plenty' squad.

Undoubtedly, there is no question being raised about 'rift' issues. However, the tired minds and exhausted squad also couldn't gain much from Dhoni's presence.

Since 2013, Team India have entered the knockouts in every ICC event. They won the Champions Trophy in 2013, ended as runners-up in 2014 T20 World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy and inaugural World Test Championship.

ALSO READ | Ravi Shastri takes a dig at meme creators on social media: 'I would like to invite some of them for a drink' Before we analyse how India managed to fall like nine pins, let's go through the pros attached to the Men in Blue camp. CONTINUOUS CRICKET, TIRED LEGS, BIO-BUBBLE ISSUES For the unversed, Team India players have been super busy in the post Covid-19 era. India's cricketing schedule in post-pandemic era India tour of Australia: Nov 27, 2020- Jan 19, 2021 England tour of India: Feb 5- March 28 IPL 14 first leg: April 9-May 4 India vs New Zealand, WTC final: June 18-23 India vs England Tests in the UK: August 4-September 10 IPL 14 final leg: Sep 19-Oct 15 T20 WC: Oct 24-Nov 8 Barring the WTC final, India dominated and enjoyed considerable success in the post Covid-era. They had last played together in the format during the England home series, which ended on March 28. Thus, there was a staggering gap of 201 days (counting till the IPL finale on October 15). One can argue that the Indian players were still in the T20 groove by playing in the IPL. However, that they were performing different roles donning varied jerseys in the cash-rich league. How India under-performed in T20 WC? A quick look at the recipe that left a bad taste in our mouth

KL Rahul has been enjoying a purple patch for Team India in T20Is at present as he continues to pile on runs one game after another. Rahul slammed his fourth half-century in the last five T20Is for India as Rohit Sharma & Co. defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series in Ranchi on Sunday.

Rahul scored a magnificent 65 off 49 balls laced with six fours and two sixes to get India off to a flying start. He posted a 117-run stand with his opening partner Rohit Sharma to set up a comfortable victory for the hosts and played some brilliant strokes across all parts of the ground during his knock.

Former India cricketer and cricket expert Aakash Chopra lauded both the Indian openers for their batting exploits but reserved special praise for Rahul, who he termed the best Indian batter in T20s at present. Chopra went on to make a bold prediction regarding Rahul and said he will be the most expensive player in the upcoming IPL mega auction if the Punjab Kings captain makes himself available.

"Rohit and Rahul, what a tone they have. KL Rahul, I am saying it again - he is India's best T20 batsman. There is no better batter than him. He will be the most expensive player if he goes into the IPL auction, if the ceiling is not fixed because of the draft," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"If you see the last five matches, he has scored three-four fifties in that. I know he didn't score against Pakistan and New Zealand, but this player is of a different level," he added.

Rahul's score of 15 in the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday was the only instance in India's last five T20I matches where he failed to reach the fifty-run mark. He has been in sensational form and has looked in great touch with the willow.

Impressed by his stunning stroke play, Chopra said he was left in awe of Rahul's skill level. He lauded the right-hander's ability to take fast bowlers to the cleaners at ease and said he has become a fan of the star batter, who was recently appointed as India's full-time vice-captain in T20Is.

"The six he hits over the covers against the fast bowlers, however, fast you may bowl, it is kamaal and lajawab. Of course, I am a KL Rahul fan, you know it already. You should also be his fan because the skill level is unbelievable," Chopra said.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has reacted hilariously to Team India pacer Deepak Chahar getting an award for his stare down at New Zealand opener Martin Guptill during the first T20I between the two sides in Jaipur on Thursday. Chahar was awarded the 'Moment of the Match' award in the first T20I after he was involved in a staredown with Guptill during New Zealand's innings.

Harbhajan took to Twitter to react to the incident and hilariously pointed out that he would have been a billionaire had such an award existed during his playing days. Harbhajan's tweet tickled the funny bones of cricket fans on Twitter, who were left wondering how Chahar got an award of Rs 1 lakh just for an intense stare at Guptill.

“Knha tha yeh award pehle..Mai billionaire ho jaata. What a award (Where was this award before, I would have been a billionaire. What an award)," Harbhajan wrote in a tweet.

India got off to a winning start in the three-match T20I series as they won the opening encounter by five wickets after successfully chasing down the target of 165 runs with two balls to spare. Batting first, New Zealand rode on Martin Guptill's 70 and Mark Chapman's 63 to post 164 runs on the board in 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and R Ashwin were the pick of the bowlers for India as the duo picked up two wickets apiece. Chahar didn't have a great outing with the ball as he went on to concede 42 runs off his four overs while picking up a solitary wicket.

In reply, Suryakumar Yadav's 40-ball 62 and skipper Rohit Sharma's 48 off 36 balls saw India chase down the target comfortably at the end. India will be looking to make it two wins in a row in the second T20I on Friday to seal the three-match series with an unassailable lead of 2-0.

India will be looking to clinch the three-match T20I series 2-0 when they take on New Zealand in the second T20I in Ranchi on Friday (November 19). India won the opening encounter by five wickets in Jaipur on Wednesday to get off to a winning start and will be aiming to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in Ranchi on Friday.

Under newly-appointed T20I captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, Team India embarked into a new era with a close win against the Kiwis. Asked to chase the target of 165 runs, the hosts rode on a brilliant 62 off 40 balls from Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Rohit's 48 off 36 deliveries to get over the line with two balls to spare.

While the batters rose up to the occasion, it was a disappointing performance overall from the bowlers in the first T20I as the likes of Deepak Chahar, Mohammad Siraj and Axar Patel went for runs. While Chahar conceded 42 runs in his four overs, Siraj went for 39 and Axar conceded 31 runs while going wicket-less.

Martin Guptill (70) and young Mark Chapman (63) were the top scorers for the visitors and played two brilliant knocks to help them post 164 runs on the board in 20 overs. The Indian bowlers will be hoping to produce a more disciplined performance in the second T20I in Ranchi on Friday.

India are unlikely to make a change in their playing XI, but skipper Rohit and the team management might look at giving some game time to senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and explosive young batter Ishan Kishan, who can either open the innings or slot into the middle-order.

India vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I prediction:

India looked a strong unit overall in the series-opener against the Kiwis and will be looking to make it two wins in a row to seal the series on Sunday. The Black Caps are definitely missing their captain Kane Williamson in the middle-order but will look to give India a tough fight. India should come out on top and clinch the series in Ranchi on Friday.

IND vs NZ 2nd T20I prediction: Who will win today's match between India and New Zealand?

Team India's new head coach Rahul Dravid has asserted he will be prioritising players' mental health and workload management as he begins his stint with the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Dravid said he is not looking at building different teams for different formats but will rather effectively manage the workload of the players to ensure they are fresh for each major tournament.

Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri at the helm of affairs for Team India after their disappointing exit from the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021. India failed to qualify for the semi-finals as they bowed out of the T20 World Cup from the group stages after two losses and three wins in their first five matches.

The Indian team has picked up some new faces in the T20I squad for the New Zealand series that gets underway from Tuesday (November 17) but the management is not looking for a major overhaul. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel and Venkatesh Iyer have been roped in after their brilliant performances in the IPL while Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal among others have been recalled to the squad which will be led by newly-appointed T20I skipper Rohit Sharma.

Dravid said while there will be no separate teams for each format, he will always be in conversation with players to ensure their physical and mental being is taken care of.

"So we are not at that level, looking at separate teams for separate formats. Of course, there are certain players who only play a particular format. We need to have conversations with the players. Players' physical and mental health is the most important thing in these times. I will always be in conversation with them. I would like to work with them to ensure that whenever we are playing, we have them fresh, we have them fully switched on," Dravid said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

The likes of head coach Ravi Shastri, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and others had pointed out how playing excessive cricket and not getting a deserved break between IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup was one of the reasons behind India's poor show in the tournament.

Echoing their sentiments, Dravid said players are not machines and workload management is an important aspect of cricket.

"Workload management is an important aspect of cricket. We see that in football as well. The mental and physical well-being of players will be a priority. We need to do a balancing act, have to work towards having players fit for the big tournaments," said the legendary batter.

India's newly-appointed T20I captain Rohit Sharma has said Virat Kohli will remain a vital member of the Indian T20I squad when he makes his comeback after skipping the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Rohit had replaced Kohli as captain of the T20Is after the former skipper stepped down from his post following the conclusion of India's campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021.

There have been questions raised regarding Kohli's spot in India's T20I squad amid his lean patch with the willow and the team's disappointing performance under his captaincy in the T20 World Cup 2021. However, Rohit insisted Kohli will only strengthen the team when he returns. Kohli has been rested from the three-match T20I series against the Kiwis which gets underway on November 17.

"What he has been doing for the team, his role will remain the same. He is very important. He is an impact player, he leaves an impression whenever he plays. He is a very important player from the team's point of view," Rohit said during a presser ahead of the first T20I against New Zealand.

Kohli might have left T20I captaincy but he will continue to lead the ODI and Test teams. He is undergoing a rough patch across formats at the moment but Kohli is India's best batter as far as T20s are concerned as he is the all-time leading run-getter in the format with 3227 runs at an average of over 52 in 95 T20Is.

"Everybody will have a different role, batting first and bowling first, roles will be different. Everyone is open to that. I am sure when Virat comes back, he can only strengthen our team because of the experience and the kind of batsmen he is. It's only going to add up to our squad," Rohit added.

Team India will embark on a new era when they lock horns with New Zealand in the upcoming T20I series under Rohit's captaincy and the guidance of new head coach Rahul Dravid.

India's newly-appointed T20I captain Rohit Sharma has said Virat Kohli will remain a vital member of the Indian T20I squad when he makes his comeback after skipping the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli's woes don't seem to be ending anytime soon as the Indian cricket team's ODI and Test captain has landed in a soup after his team's disappointing campaign in the just-concluded T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli's restaurant has been accused of discriminating against the LGBTQIA community on social media.

Kohli owns a restaurant chain called One8 Commune which has branches across some of the major cities in India. The Pune branch of Kohli's restaurant chain has stirred up a fresh controversy after being bashed by an advocacy group for unfair treatment against the LGBTQIA community.

Advocacy group 'Yes, We exist' took to social media to allege that One8 Commune's Pune branch confirmed that they do not allow entry for those from the LGBTQIA community. The group further stated that the restaurant's listing on Zomato says 'stags are not allowed'.

“We DM’ed (direct messaged) them 2 weeks ago, got no response. We called the Pune branch, they confirmed that entry is allowed only for cisgender heterosexual couples or groups of cisgender woman; gay couples or a group of gay men are not allowed; trans women allowed subject to their clothing,” the group 'Yes, We exist' wrote in a post on Instagram.

The group further wrote that the Kolkata branch of Kohli's restaurant said 'stags are allowed', however, alleged that their Zomato booking page said otherwise.

"@virat.kohli you are probably not aware of this, but your restaurant @one8.commune in Pune discriminates against LGBTQIA+ guests. The other branches too have a similar policy. This is unexpected and unacceptable. Hope you make necessary changes asap," the group captioned the post, urging Kohli to take cognisance of the matter.

Virat Kohli lands in trouble after his restaurant accused of discrimination against LGBTQIA community

There were moments of joy and heartbreaks throughout as the T20 World Cup 2021 spectacle came to a fitting end with Australia getting crowned as the deserving new champions on Sunday (November 14). Australia got the better of their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in the blockbuster final to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy.

It was an enthralling tournament in the UAE and Oman this year that concluded with Australia thrashing New Zealand in a one-sided final in Dubai to script a historic triumph. While the Aussies went on to shun their critics with a memorable campaign after being written off at the start of the tournament, some of the favourites struggled to make it count.

A number of teams rose above the expectations and performed exceptionally well to earn praise from all corners but there were those which significantly underperformed in the tournament and endured a forgetful campaign. Here is a look at three teams who flopped at the T20 World Cup 2021 -

1) India (6 points, 3 wins, 2 defeats)

Let's begin with the most obvious one. Team India had everything going their way in the run-up to the T20 World Cup 2021. With an incredible squad depth and the entire second leg of the IPL 2021 in the UAE to get acquainted with the conditions ahead of the World Cup, India were one of the firm favourites to end their ICC trophy drought and lift their second T20 World Cup title.

However, they got off to the worst possible start as Pakistan thrashed the Men in Blue by ten wickets in their opening game to end their winless streak against India in World Cups. The ten-wicket defeat at the hands of the arch-rivals saw India's campaign derail early in the tournament as they lost against New Zealand by eight wickets in their next game.

With back-to-back defeats in the first two Super 12 matches, India were on the brink of an early elimination from the tournament but they managed to stay in the fray till the end with three wins on the trot. However, six points were not enough as the favourites were dumped out from the group stages after finishing third in Group 2 behind table-toppers Pakistan and New Zealand.

2) West Indies (2 points, 1 win, 4 defeats)

No more the underdogs in the shortest format, West Indies headed into the T20 World Cup this year as one of the firm favourites. The two-time champions boasted of some exceptional all-rounders and brilliant batters in their star-studded squad. With a captain of Kieron Pollard's experience and calibre, not many wrote off a successful title defence for West Indies in the UAE.

However, the two-time champions had a forgetful campaign to forget as they managed only a solitary win in five matches in the Super 12 stage to finish fifth in Group 1. Nothing seemed to be going their way as the batters failed to fire as a unit while big-name all-rounders failed to make an impact with their performances.

England thrashed West Indies by six wickets in their opener before Pollard's men lost against South Africa by eight wickets. They pulled off a close win against Bangladesh by 3 runs in their next game which turned out to be their only win in the tournament as they lost their next two matches on the trot against Sri Lanka and Australia.

3) Bangladesh (0 points, 0 wins, 5 defeats)

Once considered minnows in world cricket, Bangladesh have shunned the tag a long way back and have established themselves as one of the most competitive teams in white-ball cricket. The expectations were not too high from the Mahmudullah-led side but not many would have expected Bangladesh to end their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign winless.

Bangladesh failed to even open their win account in the tournament as they lost all five of their Super 12 matches in a row to finish at the bottom of the table in Group 1 with zero points. Despite having the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mustafizur Rahman among others in their squad, Bangladesh flopped massively in the showpiece event.

Bangladesh's campaign got underway with a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka before they slumped to a heavy loss against England by 8 wickets. Bangladesh ended up losing their next three matches straight to finish last in what was a woeful campaign for them.

Here is a look at three teams who flopped at the T20 World Cup 2021 - 1) India (6 points, 3 wins, 2 defeats) Let's begin with the most obvious one. However, six points were not enough as the favourites were dumped out from the group stages after finishing third in Group 2 behind table-toppers Pakistan and New Zealand. 2) West Indies (2 points, 1 win, 4 defeats) No more the underdogs in the shortest format, West Indies headed into the T20 World Cup this year as one of the firm favourites. Also Read: 'I was not dropped in 4 years': India star says he was down for 2-3 days after T20 WC snub 3) Bangladesh (0 points, 0 wins, 5 defeats) Once considered minnows in world cricket, Bangladesh have shunned the tag a long way back and have established themselves as one of the most competitive teams in white-ball cricket.

Three teams that flopped in T20 World Cup 2021: Virat Kohli & Co. headline list

Rahul Dravid has taken over as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team and is all set for his first major assignment with the Men in Blue. India will take on New Zealand in a three-match T20I series at home starting from November 17 (Wednesday) which is all set to be their first big challenge under Dravid's guidance.

While Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the captain of the T20I side after Virat Kohli stepped down as captain in the shortest format, KL Rahul will be his deputy. The newly-appointed vice-captain of the Indian T20I side said he has been fortunate enough to know Dravid for a long time and is looking forward to working with him.

Rahul, who plays for Karnataka in the domestic circuit and has been on India A tours in the past, lauded Dravid for being a team man and creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable. He also said Dravid has a great understanding of the game and can help the current members of the Indian team become better cricketers in the future.

"Rahul Dravid comes in as well, really looking forward to working with the new coaching staff over the next 2 weeks," KL Rahul told the reporters on Monday.

"Look, I have been fortunate enough to know him for a very long time. As a youngster, I did try to pick his brain. He was very helpful to all of us back home in Karnataka. He has helped the boys across the country. Having him here with us as a part of that setup will give us an opportunity to learn.

"We all know how big a name Rahul Dravid is, we have a great opportunity to learn from him and get better as cricketers. When it comes to coaching, I have played a couple of games with India A setup. He is somebody who has a great understanding of the game and creates an atmosphere where everybody is comfortable. He has always been a great team man," he added.

Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of the Indian team after his contract expired post the end of India's campaign at the T20 World Cup 2021. India had a disappointing tournament as they failed to qualify for the semi-finals and bowed out of the group stages after two losses and three wins in the Super 12.

Under Dravid, a new era is set to begin in Indian cricket with Rohit taking charge of the T20I team. Dravid and Rohit's immediate challenge will be to build a settled unit with a focus on T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next year. The likes of Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Rishabh Pant among others will miss the upcoming T20I series against the Kiwis.

Team India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has opened up on being snubbed from India's T20 World Cup 2021 squad. His exclusion from the 15-man squad had come as a surprise to many given his experience. Chahal was leading India's spin attack in white-ball cricket over the last few years and was shockingly left out of the T20 World Cup squad after a dip in form as the selectors went with Rahul Chahar while R Ashwin was recalled in the shortest format after as many as four years.

Chahal didn't even make the cut in India's revised squad which was announced days before the start of the tournament despite doing well for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. He was also not named in the reserves and was left disappointed after being dropped for the first time in many years in a major event like T20 World Cup.

Chahal said he was down for a couple of days after being snubbed from the squad but knew the second leg of IPL was around the corner which might give him a chance to redeem himself. However, despite his brilliant performances in the second leg of the IPL in UAE, he was not recalled in the team.

“I was not dropped in four years and then I got dropped for such a marquee event. I felt really bad. I was down for two-three days. But then I knew the second leg of the IPL was still around the corner. I went back to my coaches and spoke to them a lot,” Chahal was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently claimed he and captain Virat Kohli had no say in the team's squad selection for the T20 World Cup 2021. In an interview, Shastri claimed he was only responsible for selecting the playing XIs for every match during the World Cup but not the 15-man squad that was selected for the tournament.

India endured a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 as they bowed out of the competition from the group stages after losing two out of their first five matches in the Super 12. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has been left baffled by Shastri's claims and refused to believe that he and captain Kohli had no inputs in picking India's squad for the showpiece event.

Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Butt wondered if it was possible for the selectors to pick the squad without keeping the coach and captain in the loop. The former Pakistan cricketer insisted a coach and captain can't help the team play the brand of cricket they want f they don't have the players of their choice.

"How is it even possible? Can't believe that there were no inputs from Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli regarding India's team selection, who have been at the helm of the side for close to five years? The coach and captain decide the brand of cricket the team will play. If they do not have players of their choice, then they will not be able to do that," said Butt.

Can't believe there were no inputs from Shastri, Kohli in India's T20 WC squad selection: Ex-Pakistan skipper

Team India were strong contenders going into the T20 World Cup 2021 edition. Having played in the final leg of IPL 14, in the UAE, and comprising several star performers in the 15-man squad, the one-time winners were expected to go the distance in the marquee event.

However, Virat Kohli & Co. fell like nine pins in the seventh edition of the T20 WC, won by Aaron Finch-led Australia on November 14 (Sunday). Kohli-led Indian team saw their unbeaten streak end versus Pakistan in World Cup history, lost to New Zealand and missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals despite bowing out with three wins in a row. Reflecting on their dismal campaign and the road ahead, with the next T20 WC scheduled in late 2022, former Australian coach John Buchanan spoke at length on how India can recover and expressed full faith in the Rahul Dravid-era.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) staged a remarkable turnaround in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as they qualified for the playoffs despite having managed only two wins in their first seven matches of the Indian leg of the tournament. KKR won five of their seven matches in the UAE leg and finished four before entering the final by winning the Eliminator and the second Qualifier.

Though they ended up on the losing side in the final with Chennai Super Kings lifting their fourth IPL title, KKR had the campaign to remember. Uncapped Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was one of the revelations for KKR in the second leg of IPL 2021 and played an instrumental role in their resurgence.

Iyer, who has earned his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, takes inspiration from England superstar Ben Stokes and wants to become like him for Team India. The all-rounder said he would like to be an all-format player like Stokes for the Indian team.

"What Ben Stokes does for England or any other team he plays for, that is quite inspiring. He is a match-winner in every format. He contributes in all three departments equally and he is such a big asset for the team," Iyer told Sports Yaari.

"Watching him play I feel like this is something that I really want to become... Contribute in every format and in every position, take wickets with the ball and become a safe slip fielder like Stokes. Which team wouldn't want a player like Stokes? I am inspired by Ben Stokes," he added.

India's Ben Stokes? KKR star says he wants to become like England all-rounder and contribute in all formats

Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team after the departure of Ravi Shastri. Shastri's tenure as the head coach of the team came to an end after India's exit from T20 World Cup 2021 and Dravid will take charge from the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who had previously revealed Dravid had to be convinced to take over as the head coach of the national team, joked about how he influenced his former teammate to get on board. Dravid was working as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before taking over as the head coach of the Indian team.

Speaking at the 40th Sharjah International Book Fair, Ganguly spoke about Dravid's appointment as the Indian team's head coach and jokingly said he had got a call from his former India teammate's son, who complained that his father was being too strict with him and needs to be taken away.

"I got a call from him saying his father was being too strict with him and that he needed to be taken away. That's when I called Rahul (Dravid) and told him that it was time for him to join the national team," joked Ganguly.

Ganguly said it was easy for him to convince Dravid and get him on board as he had spent a lot of time with the former India batter in the dressing room during his playing days. Dravid and Ganguly made their India debuts around the same time and went on to become legends of Indian cricket with their brilliant performances across formats.

"We grew up together, started around the same time, and spent most of the time playing together. So it was easy for some of us to make him feel welcome and wanted," said Ganguly on a more serious note.

Dravid is currently in Jaipur with the rest of the Indian support staff ahead of his first major assignment as the head coach of the team. India will play the first T20I of the three-match series against New Zealand in Jaipur on November 17. India are scheduled to play two Tests against the Black Caps after the T20Is.

Dravid is reportedly set to be replaced by former India batter VVS Laxman, who will take over as the new head of the National Cricket Academy.

Also Read: Should Virat Kohli step down as India's ODI skipper after quitting T20I captaincy? John Buchanan opines Dravid is currently in Jaipur with the rest of the Indian support staff ahead of his first major assignment as the head coach of the team.

Virat Kohli's leadership credentials were questioned by many after Team India's disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian team failed to make it to the semi-finals as the Men in Blue bowed out of the group stages after two defeats and three wins in their five games. While Kohli has already stepped down as the captain in T20Is, there have been reports stating that he might be asked to step down as the ODI captain as well.

Kohli had announced that he will be quitting the T20I captaincy ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. Rohit Sharma has been appointed as his successor in the shortest format and is reportedly in line to take over in ODIs as well. Former Australia head coach John Buchanan, who guided the Aussies to back-to-back ODI World Cup titles in 1999 and 2003, believes Kohli will be a leader in the side whether captaining or not.

In an exclusive interaction with WION, Buchanan, who oversaw the golden era of Australian cricket, helping them dominate world cricket for several years, said Kohli is an influential leader and has the right to decide if he wants to continue leading the Indian team in ODIs and Tests or not.

"I think he is still in his province to make that call. He is a person who can play a significant leadership role whether he is captain or not. If he chooses to be the captain, I think he is a very influential captain and I do think that he is the only person that understands his career at the moment and the things that are going on in his life. And in what direction does he see the things going," Buchanan told WION in an exclusive interaction.

Kohli has been one of India's consistent run-getter across formats and is the only batter in the world at present to average over 50 across all three formats of the game. While he is yet to win a major ICC trophy as captain, he has already surpassed MS Dhoni to become India's most successful skipper in Tests.

Buchanan believes Kohli would want to be leading the Indian team in both Tests and ODIs unless he has decided to step aside as a player from both formats.

"I think from his point of view, I don't think he is ready not to play ODIs and Tests and if he is to play both, he would like to be leading in both formats for the time being and make an assessment how he is handling all of it," said the two-time World Cup-winning coach.

Should Virat Kohli step down as India's ODI skipper after quitting T20I captaincy? John Buchanan opines

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Sunday confirmed that former India batter VVS Laxman will be taking charge as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). When ANI contacted Ganguly about whether Laxman will be taking charge as NCA head, he replied: "Yes".

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has always spoken about the need to have former cricketers in the system to help the game grow. And as BCCI President he worked towards getting Rahul Dravid to agree to become the head coach of the Indian team.

Earlier, speaking to ANI, sources in the know had said not just the BCCI chief, but even secretary Jay Shah and other senior officials want Laxman to take up the NCA role as the BCCI has in the last few years seen the NCA head work closely with the Team India head coach.

"Sourav and Jay both would love to have Laxman take up the NCA role. But yes, the final call obviously lies with the former India cricketer as he has a young family also. He is undoubtedly a front runner for the role and not to forget how he has been known to share a special bond with now coach Dravid. It will be the perfect combination to have those two work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. Nothing like having former cricketers coming on board to help produce the next generation of stars," the BCCI source had said.

Commenting on his appointment as head coach, Dravid has already mentioned how he is looking forward to building on the base that has been created by current coach Ravi Shastri.

"It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential," he said.

India opener Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin have also gone ahead and spoken highly about Dravid and said they are looking forward to working with the former India skipper.

VVS Laxman to take charge as NCA head, confirms BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has taken a dig at meme creators on social media who often target him in their quirky posts and have a laugh at his expense. Shastri said he finds some of the memes quite enjoyable and would like to invite some of the creators for a drink someday.

The former head coach was blamed for India's losses on social media on several occasions during his stint with the team. However, Shastri said at least his memes made people laugh even during difficult times. Shastri's tenure with the Indian team came to an end last week after India's exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.

"I quite enjoyed some of them (memes). That's talent also. When they suddenly make me have a paunch, then it disappears the next day," Shastri was quoted as saying by India Today.

"There are bottles everywhere, it is a laugh at my expense. So at least in tough times you kept people in good humour. I would like to invite some of them for a drink," he added.

India headed into the T20 World Cup 2021 as one of the favourites but endured a disappointing run in the tournament as they suffered back-to-back defeats in their first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. The Men in Blue did bounce back to win their next three games in a row by big margins but six points were not enough to seem them make it to the semi-finals.

Shastri, who had taken over as India's full-time head coach in 2017, ended his stint without a major ICC trophy. However, under his guidance, India became a force to reckon with across formats and came close to winning an ICC trophy on a couple of occasions.

Virat Kohli had announced, in mid-September, that the T20 World Cup 2021 edition will be his last assignment as India's captain in the shortest format. He cited workload issues for stepping aside as the T20I skipper. Now, Ravi Shastri -- whose tenure as the national side's head coach just ended following the T20 WC campaign -- has hinted that Kohli might also step aside as the ODI captain.

Under Shastri-Kohli, Team India were a force to reckon with across formats as they became a daunting line-up while being on the road whereas also managed to dominate oppositions at home. Nonetheless, with Kohli not being at his usual best with the bat and being deprived of the three-figure mark in international cricket since late 2019, the 33-year-old stepped aside as the T20I captain. Now, he can also follow the same route in ODIs.

As per a report in NDTV, the BCCI top brass is planning to have a conversation with the right-hander regarding his future as the ODI captain. 'Might happen in ODIs' - Ravi Shastri hints at Virat Kohli leaving 50-over format's captaincy after T20Is

India endured a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 as they bowed out of the tournament from the group stages after managing just three wins in five matches in the Super 12. India lost their first two big matches against Pakistan and New Zealand in a row to be pushed on the brink of elimination from the tournament before staging a fightback.

The Virat Kohli-led side went on to win their next three matches on the trot but six points were not enough as they failed to qualify for top four. India's batting woes were left exposed in the first two games as only skipper Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant managed to impress in the opener against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, against New Zealand, India produced a woeful performance as they could only manage 110 runs on the board in 20 overs and were crushed by eight wickets. While some of the middle-order batters did do well in some games, they failed to produce impactful performances which could inspire India into the semis.

Former India batter Yuvraj Singh took to Instagram on Saturday (November 13) to share a hilarious meme featuring Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma. The 'thinking about other girls' meme also involved Yuvraj and highlighted India's middle-order woes in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Kohli was shown to be thinking if Yuvraj was still playing for India, the team's middle-order would have been strong.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi believes Virat Kohli should step down from captaincy across formats and enjoy his batting for Team India going forward. Kohli has already stepped down as the T20I captain of the Indian team post the conclusion of their campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli had announced that he will be leaving captaincy in the shortest format even before the start of the T20 World Cup in UAE this year.

Rohit Sharma has been appointed as Kohli's successor in T20Is and will be leading Team India in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand at home. While he has already left the T20I captaincy, questions have been raised on Kohli continuing as captain in ODIs. Recent reports have also stated that BCCI is planning to ask Kohli to step down as ODI captain as well with Rohit being the frontrunner for the top post.

Former Pakistan skipper Sahid Afridi has come up with a piece of bold advice for Kohli and has urged him to relinquish captaincy from ODIs and Tests as well. Afridi believes Kohli is one of the best batters in the world and should enjoy his game without the burden of captaining the side.

"I think he has been a wonderful force for Indian cricket but I think it would be best if he decided to retire as captain in all formats now," Afridi said on Samaa TV.

Afridi, who had shared the dressing room with Rohit during his stint with the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), believes Rohit has the ability to stay calm under pressure and can also be aggressive as per the situation. He backed Rohit to succeed as captain of the Indian team and said the change was bound to happen.

"As far as Rohit is concerned, this was on the cards. I have played with him for a year (at Deccan Chargers). He is an outstanding player with terrific shot selection. He stays relaxed where required and shows anger when needed to as well. We will see both sides. Like I said, this captaincy move was bound to happen. He should definitely be given a chance," said Afridi.

"I think Virat should step down as captain and just enjoy his remaining cricket which I think is aplenty. He is a top batsman and he can play freely without any other pressures on his mind. He will enjoy his cricket," Afridi further elaborated on Kohli's future as India's captain.

As per reports, BCCI might ask Kohli to step down as ODI captain ahead of the team's tour of South Africa next year. However, it remains to be seen if India will continue with split captaincy in limited-overs cricket or will Rohit take charge in both ODIs and T20Is.

Also Read: BCCI wants Kohli to focus on batting, likely to replace him with Rohit as ODI captain - Report "I think Virat should step down as captain and just enjoy his remaining cricket which I think is aplenty.

No Rohit, Pant as India announce squad for New Zealand Test series; Shreyas Iyer makes the cut

Virat Kohli had announced his decision to step down as T20I captain of the Indian team even before the Men in Blue began their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli had confirmed he will relinquish captaincy in the shortest format post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. While he has stepped down as the T20I captain of the side, there remain doubts over his future as ODI captain of Team India.

Kohli has stepped down from the T20I captaincy but will continue to lead the team in ODIs and Tests for now. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to relieve Kohli of the burden of captaincy in white-ball cricket and replace him with Rohit Sharma as captain in ODIs as well. Rohit was recently confirmed as Kohli's successor in T20Is.

As per a report in NDTV, the BCCI top brass is planning to have a conversation with Kohli regarding his future as ODI captain of the Indian team. "The board wants to relieve Kohli of the captaincy burden in limited-overs cricket so that he can focus on his batting and return to his dominant form," NDTV quoted sources as saying.

As per the report, Kohli can be asked to step down as the ODI captain of the Indian team as soon as the South Africa series which gets underway in January next year. KL Rahul is likely to be appointed as Rohit's deputy in the fifty-over format.

Rohit was named the captain of India's T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand series at home after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. Finalists New Zealand will travel to India for three T20Is starting from November 17. Rohit will lead the team while Kohli has been rested from the T20Is.

Kohli will also miss the first Test of the two-match series against Kane Williamson & Co. but will return to lead the team in the second Test. BCCI announced India's Test squad for the New Zealand series on Friday, providing rest to the likes of Rohit, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Kohli (for 1 Test).

Kohli's captaincy in limited-overs formats came under the scanner after India's disappointing run in the T20 World Cup 2021 as the team failed to qualify for the semi-finals with two straight losses against Pakistan and New Zealand in the beginning of their campaign.

It remains to be seen BCCI will continue with split captaincy in limited-overs or Rohit will be handed over the charge in ODIs as well.

BCCI wants Virat Kohli to focus on batting, likely to replace him with Rohit Sharma as ODI captain - Report

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir questioned David Warner for his unsportsmanlike act in the semi-final between Australia and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Thursday. Australia chased down the target of 177 runs with an over to spare to secure a spot in the final against New Zealand.

It was a reverting contest between the two teams with players from both sides under pressure. Warner's six off Mohammad Hafeez became one of the biggest talking points of the game as the ball had slipped out of the Pakistan spinner's hands before it was dispatched by the Aussie batter.

The incident happened in the eighth over of Australia's innings when the ball slipped out of Hafeez's hands and bounced twice before being hit for a six by Warner. The incident once again heated up the 'spirit of cricket' debate as many criticised Warner for going after the delivery despite knowing that the ball had slipped out of Hafeez's hands.

While Gambhir slammed Warner over his actions, he also targeted former Australian cricketers like Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting, who have been very vocal about the spirit of cricket in the past. Gambhir took to Twitter to share his views on Warner's act and also tagged Indian spinner R Ashwin asking him if the Aussie batter was right or wrong.

Ashwin had been targeted by the likes of Warne and Ashwin in the past over Mankading Jos Buttler in IPL 2019 before Warne slammed him yet again after his spat with Eoin Morgan during IPL 2021.

"What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful What say @ashwinravi99?" - Gambhir wrote in a tweet. An Australian journalist responded to Gambhir's tweet and wrote - "Bad take Gautam".

Ashwin replied to the Aussie journo's tweet and explained Gambhir's point of view while possibly referring to his Mankading act in IPL 2019 and his spat with Morgan this year. "His point is that if this is right, that was right. If that was wrong, this is wrong too. Fair assessment?" - Ashwin wrote.

Talking about the semi-final, batting first, Pakistan posted a challenging total of 176 runs on the board in 20 overs riding on Mohammad Rizwan's 67 off 52 balls and Fakhar Zaman's unbeaten 55 off 32 balls. In reply, Australia chased down the total with an over to spare.

Warner scored a brilliant 49 off 30 balls while Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade slammed unbeaten 40 and 41 respectively to take Australia over the line comfortably and helped them reach the final.
