India have been handed a huge setback ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 as head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19. Dravid had not travelled to Zimbabwe with the Indian squad for the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against the hosts as the head coach was rested along with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour.

In Dravid's absence, another India legend VVS Laxman, who heads the National Cricket Academy (NCA), served as the stand-in head coach of the KL Rahul-led Team India on their tour of Zimbabwe. Dravid's last assignment with the team was their tour of the Caribbean where India defeated West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series and 4-1 in the T20Is.

Dravid's absence will be a big blow for India as the head coach has been instrumental in the team's success across formats since taking over last year. Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have instilled a new aggressive intent in the team and have changed the way India played T20 cricket.

India is set to leave for the UAE soon for the premier tournament which will serve as the perfect preparation ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is likely to miss the tournament due to his positive test. India will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on August 28 (Sunday).

India head coach Rahul Dravid tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Asia Cup 2022

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has come down heavily on Virat Kohli's critics amid his ongoing lean patch in international cricket. Underfire Kohli has been on the receiving end of intense criticism from all corners for his poor form as he has failed to score runs consistently across formats and has gone without scoring an international century for over 1,000 days now.

However, Shastri believes a player of Kohli's stature needs just one good game to turn things around. The former India head coach believes the chatter around Kohli's form will end if the senior batter manages to score a half-century in his team's opener against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Kohli is currently on a break and will return to action in the Asia Cup which gets underway in the UAE on August 27 (Saturday). India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-awaited clash at the Dubai International Stadium on August 28. Ahead of his return, Shastri backed Kohli to shut his critics with the willow.

"I haven’t spoken to Virat Kohli recently but the ‘big guys’ always wake up at the right time. The downtime for Kohli was good before the Asia Cup gave him a good chance to reflect. Kohli last featured for India during their tour of England earlier this year where the star batter flopped in all three formats. He opted for a break following the conclusion of the series amid significant criticism and calls for him to be dropped from India's T20 squad.

Mouths will be shut if Virat Kohli gets a fifty in 1st game against Pakistan at Asia Cup: Ravi Shastri

Virat Kohli's ongoing lean patch with the willow is a huge concern for the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year. Kohli has been backed constantly by the Indian team management but has failed to notch up big knocks consistently. He had a disastrous campaign during India's recently-concluded tour of England and has not returned to action since.

Kohli had opted for a break following the conclusion of the England tour and went on to miss India's tour of the West Indies and Zimbabwe. The senior batter is all set to make his comeback for the Indian team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway in UAE on August 28.

There has been a raging debate over Kohli's woeful form with several former cricketers and experts also calling for the superstar batter to be dropped from India's T20I side ahead of the T20 World Cup this year. However, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has backed Kohli to bounce back soon.

Pathan explained why Asia Cup 2022 will be an important tournament for Kohli stating that the Indian batter cannot head into the World Cup looking to still find his form. Pathan believes returning to top form in Asia Cup will be a huge boost for Kohli and the Indian team looking forward to the T20 World Cup.

You can't find form in the World Cup: Irfan Pathan explains why Asia Cup will be important for Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli's form continues to be a topic of discussion in the cricketing fraternity. The 33-year-old has been out of form for quite some time and hasn't been part of the action at the international level since India's tour of England, where he returned without a single half-century across formats. Thus, all eyes are on the former Indian skipper on how he returns to his best in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, to be held in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup, former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram has come out in support of under-fire Kohli. He labelled him as one of the greatest of all time and has backed him to overcome his rut in the upcoming Asian championship.

"Let me start off with from last year or so, whatever I have been seeing on social media, from Indian fans, against Virat Kohli... most of them, fans or press, or whoever they may be, having a go at him unnecessarily. He is only 33, he is one of the greatest of all time," Akram said during a press conference organised by Star Sports.

"He is extraordinary. He is averaging 50-plus in all formats, he is still fit as a fiddle, he is still one of the best fielders in the Indian squad and like they say, form is temporary, class is forever. That is Virat Kohli. I am sure he will come back and score runs. I hope he doesn't come back against Pakistan, but he will make a comeback," Akram added.

Kohli will like to come to his best in India's Asia Cup opener, where they face Babar Azam-led Pakistan in Dubai. Virat Kohli one of the greatest of all time, they are having a go at him unnecessarily: Wasim Akram

A lot of former and active cricketers continue to opine on Virat Kohli. Kohli remains the topic of discussion despite last playing an international game on July 17. After India's tour of England, the 33-year-old star Indian batter had been given rest for the national side's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now return in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

Talking about Kohli's form, the right-hander's last international century came in the pre-Covid era. He had a forgettable 2020 tour of New Zealand before the Covid-19 pandemic struck and shocked the whole world. Following that, he scored a lot of half-centuries but a century continues to evade him. Even in India's 2022 tour of England, Kohli ended without a single half-century across formats whereas he had an ordinary run in IPL 2022, for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Many expect Kohli to start afresh in the forthcoming Asia Cup and regain his form before the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia, in October-November. Before the tournament, his good friend and former RCB teammate AB de Villiers lavished praise on him. "Virat [Kohli] is one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Virat remains world-class. Virat and I remain in regular contact. We are friends, and he certainly does not need me to tell him the importance of working hard during a bad patch," said De Villers in interaction with NDTV.

Virat Kohli's return to international cricket is keenly awaited. Rohit Sharma-led India play their first game in Asia Cup 2022 edition, to be held in the shortest format, versus arch-rival Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai.

Team India batter Shubman Gill finally brought an end to his century drought in international cricket as he slammed his maiden international century for India in their ongoing 3rd ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. Gill, who made his debut for India in 2019, had come close to scoring his maiden ton on a few occasions but ended up missing the triple-figure mark by a whisker.

Gill came out to bat at number three for India after the departure of skipper KL Rahul. He took little time in settling down and went on to notch up his first ODI hundred off just 82 balls. Gill finished with 130 off 97 balls laced with 15 fours and a six. The stylish right-hander looked in sublime control and played some brilliant strokes around the ground.

Despite India losing wickets regularly on one end, Gill looked in flawless touch as he took the Zimbabwe bowlers to the cleaners. He combined with Ishan Kishan (50) to share a solid stand of 140 runs for the third wicket to help India post a total of 289 runs on the board in 50 overs.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj recently offered his take on the freshly minted skipper, KL Rahul, and the style of captaincy that he has adopted of late. He credited Rahul for the amount of freedom being afforded to the Indian bowlers, revealing how it has benefited him personally.

"The atmosphere is extremely good. KL Bhai (Rahul) gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers, so the atmosphere is very good. I am enjoying my bowling a lot because I had the outswing from earlier but I was not too confident about it.

"Now I have worked more on the seam and I have got the confidence as well, and you must have been seeing that it is releasing nicely from my hand. I was bowling with that rhythm only," exclaimed Mohammed Siraj.

Having racked up 40 wickets over the course of 13 Test matches, Siraj has truly impressed with his skills when it comes to red-ball cricket. However, his form has somewhat dwindled in the realm of white-ball cricket. Siraj was only able to pick up five wickets across five T20Is. As far as the one-day format is concerned, he has managed to accumulate 13 wickets in 10 ODIs.

When asked whether he's made any changes to his game to suit white-ball cricket, Siraj said, "I just kept belief on myself, because ups and downs are part of everyone's life, so I just kept belief that I can do it no matter if it is a white ball or red ball.

"So just wanted to keep hitting the right areas and bowl dot balls to build up pressure on the opposition. Starting with the new ball, I went for wickets a few times but as you know white ball doesn't swing much, so I was planning to consistently hit one area and bowl maiden overs."

Yuzvendra Chahal recently offered fans some insight into the role that Hardik Pandya plays in the Indian cricket team, admitting that he was one of the most talented players of the team with his ability to bowl and bat.

He admitted that Pandya was one of the most versatile batsmen in the squad. He also commented on how Pandya has improved as a bowler. Although Pandya was previously utilised as a lower-order batsman, Chahal believes he has matured enough to bat higher up in the order.

"Hardik has changed completely, we saw him batting at No.7 earlier. I think when he went to Gujarat Titans from Mumbai Indians, he realised he can bat higher up the order. Any batter who can hit right from the crease, it is difficult to bowl to him. He is batting like a proper batter, which has given us more strength."

Although batting has always been Pandya's forte, Chahal believes he has truly come into his own as a crucial addition to the bowling team. He admitted that his bouncers are rather deceptive.

"He is bowling his four overs also, with him coming back, it has really helped our side. He bowls a quick bouncer, if you see it from square off, his bouncer is really deceptive. It shows how much he worked hard when he was out due to injury."

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has highlighted the disparity between India and Zimbabwe when it comes to cricket. While India remains a superpower in world cricket, Zimbabwe has been slowly finding its feet in international cricket after recovering from the ICC ban in 2019. Zimbabwe cricket is back on track and the team has been doing well.

Zimbabwe have played a number of matches so far this year and are currently taking on heavyweights India in a three-match ODI series at home. While they have already conceded the series 2-0 having lost the first two games on the trot, the hosts have shown some promise with both the bat and the ball.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin spoke about how the Big 3 - India, Australia and England continue to dominate world cricket and minnows like Zimbabwe have a lot to do to catch up. Once a prominent cricketing nation, Zimbabwe cricket has suffered a lot over the last few years.

Citing the example of Shahbaz Ahmed, who earned his maiden India call-up for the Zimbabwe series after impressing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Ashwin said the prize money in Zimbabwe's local T20 league is lesser than the base price of a single player in IPL.

The prize money in Zimbabwe's National Premier League (NPL) is $10,000 (Rs 8.50 lakh) while the base price of players in IPL starts at Rs 20 lakh ($25,000 approx). Meanwhile, Ahmed was roped in by RCB for a sum of Rs 2.40 crore (around $3,00,279) in the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year.

"Read an amazing article on the world cricket scenario. It says that wherever there is more money, employment opportunities are better, and there are better chances of players flourishing. For example, India has sent a 15-member squad to Zimbabwe. Washington Sundar got injured, and Shahbaz Ahmed has been sent as a last-minute replacement," Ashwin said in his video.

“Shahbaz Ahmed is sitting on a good contract at RCB. I don’t know his exact salary details, but he must be definitely earning in crores. On the other hand, the entire prize money of Zimbabwe’s T20 league, which is called the National Premier League (NPL) is $10,000 (₹8.50 lakh). Even the base price of Indian players for the IPL is more than ₹8.5 lakh,” he added.

Ashwin also spoke about the struggles of Zimbabwe players in the past when they were not being paid salaries by the board due to a financial crisis and explained why it is important for them to perform well against India. Ashwin believes if Zimbabwe do well against India it will be good for their cricket.

“At one point in time, Zimbabwe were unable to pay salaries to their players. But after the new administration took over, they cleared past dues. There has been some kind of resurgence in Zimbabwe cricket. So, if Zimbabwe does well in this series, they will get accolades, and it will be good for their cricket," Ashwin explained.

Pakistan have been dealt with a huge blow ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 as fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Afridi sustained a right knee ligament injury while playing in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka last month and has been advised 4-6 weeks rest by the Pakistan medical team.

His absence will be a big blow to Pakistan's chances in the tournament. Afridi has been a force to reckon with the ball across all three formats for the Men in Green and has been a prolific wicket-taker over the last couple of years. Afridi was the Man of the Match for Pakistan in their last meeting against India at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

He delivered a sensational spell with the new ball, sending back Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma in quick succession before accounting for the wicket of former India skipper Virat Kohli to set up a thumping ten-wicket win for Babar & Co. against their arch-rivals.

Reacting to the news of his injury, Pakistan pace legend Waqar Younis took to Twitter to add more fuel to the fire ahead of the much-anticipated meeting between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 on August 28. Younis said Afridi's absence will be a big relief for India's top-order batters.

India will enter Asia Cup 2022 as the defending champions. The Men in Bue remain one of the favourites to win the title having won the tournament under Rohit Sharma's captaincy in 2018. They will open their campaign against Pakistan in Dubai on August 28 before facing the sixth qualifying team in their second encounter.

While Pakistan will be without their pace spearhead Afridi, India too will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. In Bumrah's absence, the onus will be on the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh to deliver the goods for India with the ball.

'Big relief for Indian batsmen': Pakistan legend on Shaheen Shah Afridi's injury ahead of Asia Cup 2022

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes the huge hype surrounding clashes between India and Pakistan made it difficult for the Men in Green to come out on top against their arch-rivals in World Cup matches. Akhtar recently spoke about the fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan while also explaining why the Men in Green have failed to impress against India in the World Cup.

India enjoy a dominant 12-1 record against Pakistan when it comes to World Cup matches having lost just once against them in ODI and T20 World Cups so far. India's first and only loss against Pakistan came during T20 World Cup 2021 when Babar Azam & Co. ended their losing streak.

Akhtar, who featured against India in as many as four World Cups, revealed Pakistan used to play against India under massive pressure in World Cup matches. The former fast bowler said the media was partially responsible for the hype as most players used to watch TV and would give in to the unnecessary hype.

“We, as (the) Pakistan team, used to play against India, why don’t you just play it as a normal match? We had come (into the 1999 World Cup) beating India in ODIs as well as Tests in their backyard. (It was) just the added pressure of the World Cup as well as the huge hype," Akhtar said on Star Sports.

“Pakistan team used to get pressurized by that hype. This hype was created by TV (media) and we all used to watch TV," he added.

Akhtar, who is one of the quickest bowlers to have graced the game, also went on to make a bold claim. The Rawalpindi Express said all Indian batters were scared of his pace during the 1999 World Cup clash between the two teams barring Sachin Tendulkar, who played him the best.

“This Pakistan team used to get to the ground against India with unnecessary pressure. We even choked in the 2003 World Cup. But Sachin played me the best during the 1999 World Cup. All the other batters were scared of me at that time. Many batters of the world used to stop moving their feet against me," Akhtar said.

Sachin played me best, all others were scared: Shoaib Akhtar's bold claim about India-Pakistan 1999 WC clash

Sanju Samson produced a responsible unbeaten 43 after a clinical bowling display, led by pacer Shardul Thakur, as India sailed to a five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series here on Saturday.

It was not quite a domination unlike the first ODI but the paltry 162-run target meant that the KL Rahul-led side did not have to sweat much despite a mid-innings jolt. Sent into bowl, comeback man Thakur (3/38 in seven overs) brilliantly set it up and became the wrecker-in-chief as the Indian bowlers once again came out on top to skittle out Zimbabwe for 161.

In the absence of Deepak Chahar who missed out after his exploits in the last ODI, Thakur made his presence felt and rocked the Zimbabwe top-order with his double blow in the 12th over.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill then showed their same flair and authority, even as the duo batted in different positions this time, posting identical scores of 33.

But the duo could not steer the team home this time as India endured some anxious moments in the middle following the departure of Dhawan.

Luke Jongwe (2/33) produced a double blow, dismissing Ishan Kishan (6) and a well-set Shubman Gill in successive overs, to reduce India to 97 for four at the drinks break.

But with just 65 runs needed from 36 overs, Deepak Hooda and Samson produced a sensible stand of 56-run together to virtually seal the fate of the match.

With nine runs to win, Hooda was yorked by Sikandar Raza but Samson remained unbeaten on 43 (39 balls; 2x4, 4x6) and wrapped it up with a six off legspinner Innocent Kaia in the 26th over.

Having posted a 192-run unbroken stand in their previous win, Dhawan and Gill did not open together this time with the skipper Rahul opting to go alongside the former.

In the first ODI, Rahul, who was returning to action after nearly three months following a sports hernia surgery and a bout of COVID, chose to go with Dhawan and Gill as the two openers.

The duo posted a 192-run unbroken stand to fashion India's 10-wicket win. But Rahul got back to his usual slot on Saturday, only to get out LBW by pacer Victor Nyauchi after missing the line of the ball.

This was Rahul's first International match since his 49-run outing against the West Indies in an ODI in Ahmedabad on February 9. After Rahul's brief stay, it was once again business as usual for Dhawan and Gill as the duo started from where they left in the first ODI here two days' back.

Earlier, Sean Williams played a counter-attacking knock and top-scored for the hosts with a run-a-ball 42 (1x6, 3x4) after his side was reduced to 31/4 in the 13th over.

India brought in part-time off-spinner Deepak Hooda to give the much-needed breakthrough in the form of Williams who went for a pre-meditated pull to be taken at the deep square leg by Shikhar Dhawan.

Ryan Burl made a 47-ball 39 with three boundaries and one six but he ran out of partners as Zimbabwe could not stage a comeback. Their last three wickets fell in just eight balls that included the run-outs of Victor Nyauchi and Tanaka Chivanga.

It would have been worse for the hosts had India were not sloppy on the field as keeper Samson missed one stumping and dropped a difficult catch against Axar Patel, while Kuldeep Yadav missed a sitter off his own bowling.

Mohammed Siraj (8-2-16-1) and Prasidh Krishna (6.1-1-28-1) troubled the struggling Zimbabwe top-order after KL Rahul opted to field, which denied the batters some much-needed practice ahead of the Asia Cup. But the bowlers did not mind.

On a Harare SC surface with nice carry and bounce, the duo worked up good pace, swing and troubled the openers with some good length deliveries as the hosts managed just one run from the first three overs.

Siraj effected a breakthrough in the eighth over before Thakur and Krishna got into the act. Sikander Raza and Wiliams put on a 40-run partnership before Kuldeep struck. Raza tried to attack, but only managed to slice the ball for Ishan Kishan to complete a well-judged catch to trigger a collapse.

Sanju Samson, Shardul Thakur shine as India beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in 2nd ODI to clinch series

Shoaib Akhtar and Rahul Dravid have enjoyed several duels against each other during their playing days. While Akhtar never shied away from expressing himself on the field, Dravid was the completely opposite and rarely tried to get involved in on-field clashes with the opposition players.

The two have completely different personalities and the battels between the were mostly low-key affairs. However, there were times when Akhtar tried to rile up Dravid and get on to his nerves when the two crossed paths. One such instance was recently recalled by the former Pakistan pacer, who revealed how Dravid lost his cool on him during a game.

Akhtar, who has on several occasions in the past admitted Dravid was one of the toughest batter he has bowled to, revealed Dravid ran into him during India's innings and the two ended up colliding. Akhtar then exchanged a few words with the batting great, who was in no mood to back off and got into a heated argument with the former Pakistan pacer.

"It was the first time I saw this gentleman of cricket behave… in that match, he wanted to have a word with me. We ran into each other and we collided. Before that, as I ran in to bowl, and before I took my jump, Mohammad Kaif moved away. I did not say anything to him but I was very angry. So, I got him and Yuvraj out," Akhtar said in a video posted by Star Sports.

"We were close to winning that game, and Rahul Dravid ran into me. I told him you run on your side and I will run on mine. Rahul got flared up. I told him 'Rahul, why are you getting so aggressive? I know the climate is changing but the thing is I can't understand that 'tu bhi ladh sakta hai' (you too can fight)," he added.

While he didn't mention the details, the match Akhtar is referring to can possibly be the 5th ODI between India and Pakistan during the series between the arch-rivals in 2004. Dravid and Akhtar had to be separated by Pakistan players after their heated on-field clash during the game.

Akhtar, however, termed the heated argument with Dravid a one-off thing and lauded the Indian legend for being a gentleman. Dravid is one of the most humble cricketers to have played the game and always remained calm and composed on the field even in high-pressure situations.

"But it was a one-off thing. Rahul is a gentleman. But coming back to the match, I had bowled really fast in that spell. I made sure that after 2003 WC, I left an impact on the Indian team. It was always in my mind to bowl fast after the 2003 World Cup," said Akhtar.

Rohit Sharma is all set to face his next big test as Team India captain in the Asia Cup 2022 starting from August 27-September 11. The Hitman has an extraordinary record as T20I captain, winning 29 of the 35 matches he`s been in charge.

Since being handed the captain`s role, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have dominated teams across the T20I format and gained many plaudits for their performances.

With the countdown for the Asia Cup 2022 and the Greatest Rivalry between India and Pakistan on August 28 underway, the stakes will be higher than ever for the Hitman and the team to become the Champions of Asia for the eighth time.

Speaking on Star Sports show `Follow The Blues`, Team India captain Rohit Sharma detailed his captaincy mantra and how he and the squad handle pressure before marquee tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2022, "For me as a captain, it is very important that we create an environment for the players where they don`t feel that it`s a very high-pressure environment.

"We try and create (an environment) for the guys to come out in this team and try to have fun and enjoy each other`s company. Because I strongly feel that it`s important not to allow the pressure to creep in too much. When you`re playing, obviously, there will be pressure because when you are holding the ball in your hand, there is pressure on you as a bowler.

"When you`re batting in the middle, there is pressure, and that is what you have to handle on your own. The captain or coach or anyone, no one can do anything about it, but yourself. So, I think those aspects - Of course, it is your responsibility, but there are so many other factors that come into play and I feel I need to take care of it."

Rohit further spoke about his role as captain to build a rapport with every individual in the team and assist every individual to improve their performances, especially while going through rough patches.

Making him understand what we expect from him, his role in this team, and all those kinds of things. So, I don`t go with any particular mantra when I play the game.

"Obviously, for me it`s just to quickly adapt to certain individuals and then understand what they need, what are their strong points, where they are weak, try and you know give them feedback and work with them; be very specific in what the team is expecting from that individual.

"That is where the individual can blossom because when we give them the clarity of what the team is expecting from you, I think he will be able to work towards that direction and he can work on his game in many ways and then improve his game as well. So, I think those are the things that I always keep in mind."

Rohit Sharma believes creating a no-pressure environment is key ahead of Asia Cup clash against Pakistan

Mental health issues are the bane of any athlete. Considering the expectations and responsibilities that those competing in international settings shoulder, the onset of such issues is effectively inevitable. The case of Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli is no different. He recently offered fans unadulterated insight into the problems that he has faced while playing at the highest level for years.

In response to his comments, representatives of his management company released a statement. Kohli's agent Bunty Sajdeh admitted that the Indian star has faced his fair share of problems prompted by mental health issues over the course of his career. However, he expressed disappointment in the fact that significant terms like depression were being thrown around a bit too casually.

"The representation of a severe condition like depression is very well understood by Virat. He's spoken openly on the mental challenges of playing the sport at the highest level and he hasn't shied away from admitting them. Having said that, he's mentioned that he's experienced mental challenges at only a certain stage in his career," said Sajdeh during a recent interaction with the media.

The CEO of Cornerstone Sport, the company that manages a deep roster of talent and athletes, including Virat Kohli himself, also offered his two cents on the recently emerged comments attributed to Kohli.

"Virat for one will never feel alone when he's around people who love and support him. That's where he has got his mental strength from. Every top athlete has gone through mental challenges of dealing with pressures and expectations that come with the positions they are at. Depression is too big and significant a term to be used so loosely," Sajdeh said.

The case of Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli is no different. He recently offered fans unadulterated insight into the problems that he has faced while playing at the highest level for years. ALSO READ: Have experienced times when I felt alone in a room full of people who love me: Virat Kohli on mental health In response to his comments, representatives of his management company released a statement. ALSO READ: '14 years ago'- Virat Kohli takes a trip down memory lane, celebrating his stint in international cricket The CEO of Cornerstone Sport, the company that manages a deep roster of talent and athletes, including Virat Kohli himself, also offered his two cents on the recently emerged comments attributed to Kohli.

While some have backed him to come good, some have responded negatively and even questioned his place in the Indian team.

Kohli will make his return to cricket after a short break, which saw him miss the tour of the West Indies during the Asia Cup 2022. His first match on comeback will be against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. Fans will hope that Kohli regains his form during the tournament and hopefully hits his much-anticipated 71st international ton soon and raises his bat and helmet while roaring his lungs out to the delight of his fans.

Sharma broke down his leadership technique in a video compilation that was recently shared by Star Sports on Twitter. In the video, he admitted that he emulated the same strategy that he used in the uber-popular IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, which bolstered their charge to lay claim to the mantle of the most successful IPL team in the history of the league.

"What I have done over the years with the Mumbai Indians franchise and also the time that I have led India, it's just keeping it very-very simple and not complicate things too much. Making sure that... Whatever I have spoken of before about giving the guys that freedom. Making them understand what their role is. That is what I will be expecting of myself, that's what I want to do for the team, for the players to make sure there is no confusion," asserted Sharma.

"That (confusion) is the last thing you want, especially when you are playing a high-profile tournament. We want to make sure all of that is taken care of and that's where my role becomes very, very crucial along with Rahul (Dravid) bhai. We will try and keep our focus on that. But for me, It's very simple. I try and keep things literally very, very simple," he added.

KL Rahul and Co. outperform Zimbabwe in the first clash of their ODI series, winning the match by 10 wickets

Deepak Chahar etched his name in international cricketing folklore as he recorded his personal best bowling figures by absolutely demolishing the Zimbabwean top order during the first edition of their three-match ODI series with India. Chahar came away with 3/27, improving his previous best tally of 2/37, which he recorded against Sri Lanka back in 2021.

Chahar returned to the fold only recently after a lengthy stint on the sidelines, which was prompted by a series of injuries injury. He was initially ruled out of active contention in the IPL due to a back injury. He was subsequently slated to return right after the IPL; however, he picked up a hamstring injury, further delaying his return.

Regardless, Chahar looked extremely strong in the opening spell. He hardly took any time to find his rhythm as he made his way back to international cricket after a six-month-long hiatus. The fact that the Harare Sports Club pitch offered a steep bounce in addition to the summery morning conditions only worked to strengthen his charge against The Chevrons.

Chahar started off slow in the first three overs before setting off on a rampage and cleaning up the Zimbabwean top order from his fourth over. He can very well be credited for making Zimbabwe crumble under the first ten overs as they truly struggled to make a dent on the scoreboard.

India's charge was further supported by bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, who returned with 1/36. The likes of Prasidh Krishna (3/50) and Axar Patel (3/24), also got their fair share of wickets in the middle and lower order of the Zimbabwean lineup. The Men in Blue will hope to replicate the same results in the forthcoming matches against Zimbabwe as they are expected to emerge triumphant from the series.

The same was displayed by a young schoolboy in a recent interaction with Indian cricketing icons KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan.

Team India's skipper for the three-match ODI series with Zimbabwe and Kishan were recently offered a glimpse into the passion that flows within the Indian fans during a recent meet-and-greet, which was filmed by journalist Vimal Kumar and shared on his YouTube channel.

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma said the team's approach in T20 cricket has changed from the time they last locked horns with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. India had lost against their arch-rivals at the showpiece event to suffer their first defeat against the Men in Green in a World Cup encounter.

India had never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan before the meeting between the two sides in the UAE last year. India had won all 12 encounters between the two teams in ODI and T20 World Cups. However, Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak with an emphatic ten-wicket win in Dubai last year.

Pakistan produced an excellent effort with the ball to restrict India to a moderate total of 151 runs before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan combined to chase down the target with ten wickets to spare. The duo slammed half-centuries apiece to take Pakistan home comfortably and secure the country's first win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup game.

Ahead of the meeting between the two sides in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in his team's chances citing the change in their approach.

"Asia Cup is happening after a long time, but we played Pakistan last year in Dubai, where obviously the result did not go our way. But the Asia Cup is different now. The team is playing differently and has prepared differently, so a lot of things have changed from then," said Rohit during a promotional event.

Much has changed for India since their defeat against Pakistan last year. India had failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 following which Virat Kohli stepped down as captain to hand over reign to Rohit. Former head coach Ravi Shastri has also been replaced by the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm.

Under Rohit's captaincy, India have been phenomenal so far in T20Is and are yet to lose a T20I series having won seven on the trot. The team has also adapted an agressive approach in their batting while the bowling line-up has also undergone some notable changes.

Explaining his strategy for the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit said India won't focus on a single opposition but will be aiming to go the distance as a team. Rohit had led India to a memorable triumph during the last edition of the tournament in 2018 and will be hoping to repeat the feat this year.

"My thought has always been that we will not focus on the opponent, but we will continue to play our game. We played against West Indies, England and in both cases, we did not think about who our opposition was, but we focused on things that we had to do as a team and what we had to achieve," said Rohit.

"Similarly, in the Asia Cup, our focus will be on what to achieve as a team and not think about who we are facing - be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka," he added.

"But for us, we need to assess the conditions, keep in mind the fact that we will be playing in 40-plus degrees. We need to assess all those factors and prepare accordingly," he added.

"For an athlete, the sport can bring the best out of you as a player but at the same time, the amount of pressure that you are constantly under, can affect your mental health negatively. It is definitely a serious issue and as much as we try to be strong at all times, it can tear you apart," Kohli told The Indian Express.

"You need to learn how to compartmentalise your time so that there’s balance. It takes practice like anything else in life, but it’s something worth investing in, that’s the only way to feel a sense of sanity and enjoyment while doing your work," he added.
