Team India's Asia Cup squad was announced on August 8 (Monday) by the BCCI selection committee. The Rohit Sharma-led line-up saw the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and vice-captain KL Rahul but Jasprit Bumrah's absence stunned one and all as the premier pacer has sustained a back injury.&nbsp;

Thus, Rohit &amp; Co. will be without Bumrah for the forthcoming Asian championship, to be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The speedster is&nbsp;now undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru and no date has been set for his return. As per a report, it seems Bumrah's comeback won't be anytime soon, and might also miss the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Speaking to InsideSport, a BCCI official has claimed that Bumrah needs to be managed very carefully. "Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” an official told.

Needless to say, Bumrah will be missed in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be played in the shortest format for the second time in the tournament history. India kick off their campaign versus arch-rival Pakistan on August 28, in Dubai, and will hope to go the distance as the competition will be an ideal dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November.

With Pakistan's tour of the Netherlands fast approaching, team captain Babar Azam recently opened up about Shaheen Afridi's fitness, which has been a matter of great discourse after he was shackled to the sidelines due to an injury. He admitted that the team was hoping for him to find his way back to active contention sooner rather than later.

In addition to their tour of the Netherlands, the Pakistani squadron is also hurtling towards a clash against India in the Asia Cup. They are set to lock horns with each other on August 28th. Afridi, who played a vital role against&nbsp;India during their memorable win at the 2021 T20 World Cup, will most certainly be the biggest threat to the Men in Blue yet again.

He further admitted that he was hoping to offer the 22-year-old some game time to prepare him for the highly anticipated Asia Cup match against India.

“There are concerns over Shaheen's fitness. We are taking him along because the doctor and the physio are travelling with the team, so he can be looked after well. We are thinking from a long-term perspective. There is the Asia Cup and the World Cup as well. We are trying to ensure he can get ready as soon as possible. Ahead of the 2022 Asian championship, let us recall former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and veteran Pakistan keeper-batter Kamran Akmal's ugly spat during the 2010 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. In a tight contest, in Dambulla, Shahid Afridi-led Men in Green rode on Salman Butt's 74 and Kamran's 51&nbsp;to post&nbsp;267&nbsp;all-out in 49.3 overs.&nbsp;

In reply, Gambhir's 83, then Indian skipper MS Dhoni's 56, Suresh Raina's 27-ball 34 and Harbhajan Singh's 11-ball 15 not out propelled India to a stunning three-wicket win. However, there was a lot of action and drama during India's tense run-chase. At the time of Dhoni-Gambhir's 98-run third-wicket stand, the latter and Kamran got involved in a heated exchange following a caught-behind appeal from the Pakistani stumper. Here's the video:

From inaugural champions to woeful performers in 2021: Team India at T20 World Cup over the years

India and Pakistan are gearing up to meet each other in their opening game&nbsp;in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition&nbsp;being held in the UAE. The tournament will be played in the shortest format, as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup later this year, and India will enter as the defending champions.

For the unversed, India have won the Asia Cup on as many as seven occasions, winning the last two seasons, including the only edition held in the T20I format, whereas the Men in Green have won it only twice. Both teams have played each other on several occasions in the tournament's history but never locked horns in the summit clash.

In this year's edition, there are chances of an Indo-Pak clash on three occasions, including the final. Ahead of Pakistan's tour of Netherlands, Pakistan captain Babar Azam addressed a press conference where he was asked whether his side is ready to make it 3-0 versus India if they face them thrice in Asia Cup 2022 (including the group stage, Super Four round and final).

"Dekhe pressure kuchh nahi hai. Koshish yahi hoti hai ki match ko match ki tarah&nbsp;hi khelein.&nbsp;(We'll try to approach it like any other match)," Babar&nbsp;replied.

The group stage clash between the two Asian giants will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai,&nbsp;where India and Pakistan last played each other in the 2021 T20 World Cup. This time as well, our focus will be to give our best. Putting our best effort is in our hands, but results are not. If we give our best, then more often than not, results will also come," Babar further asserted.

Asia Cup: Will Pakistan make it 3-0 vs India on facing them thrice? Babar Azam answers journalist's query

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee has heaped praise on Virender Sehwag calling him one of the toughest batters he has bowled to. Lee recently recalled his fierce battles with Sehwag and said the former Indian opener was just too good with the bat. Sehwag was known for his swashbuckling style of batting during his playing days and used to go after the bowlers irrespective of the format.

Sehwag enjoyed some fierce duels with Lee, one of the fastest bowlers of all time. The former Australian pacer used to bowl at over 150 kmph consistently and was a nightmare to face for even the best of batters. Lee is arguably one of the best fast bowlers the game has ever seen and he enjoyed great duels with Indian batters.

The former Australian pacer has always maintained he found the legendary Sachin Tendulkar the toughest to bowl to but he also holds his opening partner Sehwag in the same regard. Lee, who enjoyed some great battles with Sehwag, recalled how the former India opener was a character who just loved playing cricket and had the ability to get people hooked to their seats with his attacking strokeplay.

"The guy that looked a little bit like Sachin Tendulkar when he was batting. And I thought 'here we go again. Another Sachin Tendulkar. If one wasn't enough, we've got another one and he is opening the batting'. We in the Australian team had a ploy for Sehwag and even start the Test match with a third man, trying to suck him in to hit one down there. We tried that in an ODI match one day and he whacked it... he absolutely nailed it out of the ground. I just thought ‘this guy is too good," Lee said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"And he would give you that cheeky little wink. The best thing about Sehwag was that he was a character. He loved playing cricket and those little battle scars against the bowler. He got the ability to make people get hooked on to seats," he added.

Lee explained how Sehwag's unpredictable approach with the bat made him one of the toughest batters to bowl to. The two-time World Cup winner with Australia hailed Sehwag's intent and showered praise on the former India opener for his sensational batting skills.

"You think of the word cruel. You think of the word swashbuckling. Think of the world unpredictable, I think of none other than Virender Sehwag. He played with a smile on his face, with intent... the type of guy that would quite likely want to hit the first ball of a Test match for six... and he has done it," said Lee as he spoke highly about Sehwag.

"He is a guy that is so hard to bowl to because, as I mentioned, the unpredictability. You would bowl that beautiful line and length, thinking, I’ve got him… ball shaping away. And that big smile, Sehwag would go bang, hit you over cover for six," he added.

Sachin and Sehwag once formed the backbone of India's batting and the duo used to dominate the best bowling attacks in the world during their playing days. While Sachin remains the leading run-getter of all time in international cricket, Sehwag finished his career with&nbsp;8586 runs in 104 Tests and 8273 runs in 251 ODIs.

The BCCI selection committee announced a 15-member Team India squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition on Monday (August 08). The tournament will be held in the UAE with India, the defending champions, to begin their campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.

This time around, the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format — the second time in the tournament's history — as a rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, in October-November. India's squad sees the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and KL Rahul whereas Jasprit Bumrah missed out due to a back injury. Nonetheless, former chief selector and keeper-batter Kiran More was unimpressed seeing R Ashwin hold onto his spot, who was recalled for the West Indies T20Is.

“I was surprised. How can Ashwin even come in this team? And every time. Even in the last World Cup, he was picked in the team and then did not play. Look at his IPL record, it is not that good. I really felt Shami should have taken that role or Axar Patel. And Axar has performed very well. Shami is my player, and he will go to the World Cup. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” More said on Star Sports.

Ashwin's case has been a curious one. He was recalled into the T20I squad after a four-year hiatus right&nbsp;before the 2021 T20 World Cup. While he played three games in the showpiece event, he straightaway got his next game in the format during the recently-concluded WI tour. Reportedly, he was not part of the home white-ball series versus the Windies and Sri Lanka, held early this year&nbsp;due to an injury. Further, he also missed out on being&nbsp;part of the squad which&nbsp;won the three T20Is versus hosts England, 2-1, during the recent trip to the United Kingdom.

India's Asia Cup squad:&nbsp;Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal

Stand-by players:&nbsp;Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys.

Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” More said on Star Sports. He was recalled into the T20I squad after a four-year hiatus right before the 2021 T20 World Cup. While he played three games in the showpiece event, he straightaway got his next game in the format during the recently-concluded WI tour. Reportedly, he was not part of the home white-ball series versus the Windies and Sri Lanka, held early this year due to an injury. Further, he also missed out on being part of the squad which won the three T20Is versus hosts England, 2-1, during the recent trip to the United Kingdom. India's Asia Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal Stand-by players: Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys.

Virat Kohli's name continues to make heads turn. While the former Indian captain has been out of action from international cricket since India's tour of England, the 33-year-old is still making the headlines as there is a lot of talk regarding his form.

Kohli has been going through a lean patch for quite long. He ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 whereas his century-drought continus since late 2019. Ahead of his return in Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka legend and Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene opined on Kohli's poor form. The former right-handed batter feels it is 'unfortunate' what Virat is going through but has backed him to 'come out of it'.

Speaking on ICC Review show, Jayawardene said, "It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player. I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump). He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary."

<section>
Further, Jayawardene also opined on Rishabh Pant as an opener, who has opened the innings for India on a few occasions in the recent past in white-ball formats. "Even though he (Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)," Jayawardene stated.&nbsp;

India are yet to finalise their openers ahead of the T20 World Cup and there are now several contenders, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav who can open with captain Rohit Sharma.

On Monday (August 08), BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

Along with Virat, KL Rahul also made a comeback. He has been out of action since IPL 2022 and last played an international game in February. Thus, Jayawardene feels he needs game time before getting into his groove. "That (Rahul's lack of cricket) would be a concern for India. He has been out for a little while since the IPL, so having game time is quite crucial especially out there in the middle. The sooner he can get some game time and get that confidence back, is always going to help him, as well as the national team" the Sri Lankan concluded.

Team India's star batter Shikhar Dhawan has opened up on his absence from the T20I squad despite his consistent performances with the bat. Dhawan has not been part of India's T20I squad for quite a while now and played his last T20I for the Men in Blue against Sri Lanka in July last year and has since not been part of the squad.

Dhawan has been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 with 587 runs and followed it up with another impressive campaign for his new team Punjab Kings this year. He notched up 460 runs in IPL 2022 and was among the top performers with the willow.

However, despite his consistent run in the IPL, Dhawan has failed to impress the selectors, who seem to have closed the door on the veteran batter as far as T20Is are concerned. Dhawan was recently asked about his non-selection in India's T20I squad and said he had no idea why he is not selected.

“I honestly don’t know about it, maybe it could be the reason. I don’t want to go deep about it I have not played T20 for India for a long time now, I don’t know where I see myself. I look to make the most out of every opportunity I am getting. Be it IPL, domestic cricket, or ODI, I just want to do well, and that is the only thing under my control,” Dhawan told the Indian Express.

While he is no more part of India's T20I plans, Dhawan has also been not in the scheme of things of India in Tests. The prolific left-hander played his last Test match in September 2018 and has not managed to make a comeback amid the rise of youngsters like Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul among others.

Dhawan currently only plays ODI cricket for India and is focused on enjoying what he has on his plate rather than focusing on the formats which he has been discarded from.&nbsp;“I really enjoy playing ODI cricket. It’s an art and still has charm. I love playing it. Like Test and T20 have their values, ODI cricket is also exciting. I really like it,” said the India batter.

Dhawan will lead the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and other senior players on their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. India are scheduled to play three ODIs against the hosts before the Asia Cup 2022 later this month. Dhawan is not part of India's Asia Cup squad and is unlikely to be selected for the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

'I honestly don't know': Shikhar Dhawan on reason behind his absence from India's T20I squad

The Indian team has already begun their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 as they aim to go the distance this time around after enduring a disappointing campaign in the showpiece event last year. India failed to make it to the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE last year. With the World Cup just a few months away, India face a lot of selection headaches.

While the top four in the batting line-up is certain, there remain a lot of options to consider in the middle-order with the likes of Suraykumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja all in the fray. Karthik has been unstoppable as a finisher ever since making his comeback for the Indian team earlier this year and is one of the favourites to make the cut.

The veteran wicket-keeper batter had a sensational campaign for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and has continued his purple patch for the Men in Blue. While many believe he deserves a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja feels otherwise.

Jadeja believes Karthik should be in the batting line-up if India play&nbsp;both captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the playing XI as he will act like an 'insurance' down the order. However, if the duo aren't not playing together Karthik is not needed. The former India cricketer also said he won't pick Karthik in India's T20 World Cup squad but won't mind having him alongside him in the commentary team.

“Now if you want to play the way I have heard them...aggressive then you have to pick differently. If Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma walks in, you need Dinesh Karthik at all cost. He is your insurance. But if you don't have either of them then Dinesh Karthik has no work here. But yes I would not put Karthik there, he can have a seat beside me. He is very good as a commentator. But there, in the team, I would not pick him," Jadeja said during a discussion on FanCode.

Karthik, however, has been picked in India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 later this month with the selectors indicating that he remains in their plans for the T20 World Cup 2022. While he snubbed Karthik, Jadeja wants fast bowler Mohammed Shami to be in India's squad for the World Cup despite him not being in the scheme of things in T20Is.

“I have added Shami to the team. So for me, I select bowlers first. So Shami is a certainty. Bumrah, Arshdeep and Chahal. These are the four certainties. In batting, four are certainties for me - Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda. For this bowling attack, you have powerplay, middle overs and death overs sorted," said Jadeja.

Shami has not played a T20I match for India since his last appearance for the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. He is also not part of India's squad for the Asia Cup 2022 and is unlikely to make the cut for the T20 World Cup in Australia this year.

Virat Kohli's form remains a big topic of discussion. The former Indian captain was rested for India's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now make a return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the forthcoming Asia Cup, to kick off in August 27 in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made a bold claim. Kaneria feels a struggling Kohli will be able to move past his poor form and revive his career courtesy of the Asian championship, which will be played in the shortest format (for the second-time in tournament-history).

"The Asia Cup will change Virat Kohli's career. The tournament is crucial for him to prolong his career and I feel he will come good. However, many former cricketers have said that Kohli is just heavy baggage on the team if he doesn't score runs. So he needs to think carefully about how he can make a comeback. This is because there are other dynamic batters like Iyer, Samson and Gill waiting in the wings," Kaneria shared his views on his YouTube channel.

'It will change his career' - Ex-Pakistan spinner makes BOLD claim, says Asia Cup will benefit Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, who was rested for the white-ball tour of West Indies, is all set to return to action for Team India during the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition. The upcoming showpiece event will be held in the UAE, with Sri Lanka as hosts, and will be played in the shortest format -- for the second time in the tournament history -- as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (from October-November).

The Indian cricket loyalists will be desperate to see Kohli return to form, who has been struggling for quite a while. He didn't score a single half-century in the England tour, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 and his century-drought continues since late 2019. However, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels Kohli will benefit from India's new-found aggressive batting approach in T20Is.

"Doesn’t matter if he (Kohli) scores a 40 or 70 because everybody has a role to play. There’s synergy in every player; regardless of the position he bats at, you are just going hell for leather. If that’s the mindset, then it’s going to be a lot easier for Kohli," said Chopra on Star Sports.

"It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team doesn’t expect Kohli to score 70 or a 100 or finish the game. You just come and play your game, that’s more than enough," added Chopra.

The 33-year-old Kohli will still be eager to get a big score under his belt to ease some pressure on his shoulders ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia. Meanwhile, India will begin their Asia Cup campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. The tournament will kick off on August 27 and the finale will be held on September 11.

Squad:&nbsp;Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal

Stand-by players:&nbsp;Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys.

The shocking news of South African umpire Rudi Koertzen's tragic demise left the cricket fraternity mourning on Tuesday (August 09). Koertzen was one of the respected umpires in the game and stood in a total of 331 international matches in his umpiring career. He passed away on Tuesday after a car accident near Riversdale in South Africa's Cape Town.

The 73-year-old was reportedly on his way back home after enjoying a golf weekend with some of his friends when his car met with an accident. Several former cricketers took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late umpire, who is among the only three umpires to have officiated in over 100 Test matches alongside Pakistan's Aleem Dar and West Indies'&nbsp;Steve Bucknor.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag also took to Twitter to pay homage to the late umpire and shared an interesting anecdote about him. Shewag revealed Koertzen used to enjoy watching him bat and would often scold the former India batter for playing a rash shot while he was umpiring.

Arshdeep Singh has been climbing up the ladder for Team India ever since his international debut. After impressing one and all with his skills, a steady head and ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as during the death overs, the 23-year-old has been able to replicate the same so far while donning the India jersey.

Thus, Arshdeep's stocks have risen in the recent past. In the just-concluded India-West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island, the left-arm pacer returned with the Player-of-the-Series award, with seven wickets at an average of&nbsp;16.14. He was exceptional in the death overs and has been included in the Asia Cup 2022 squad. Former Indian cricketer-turned-expert Sanjay Manjrekar feels Arshdeep is slightly above Avesh Khan in the pecking order at present with regard to the T20 World Cup squad selection.

"So, a race going on to clamour to get those seats on business class to Australia. And that's where I think you would have to say Arshdeep Singh has overtaken Avesh Khan. Avesh Khan is slightly behind there and that is something that's very interesting. You know this is a real competition going on for sports. Arshdeep Singh has certainly taken a little lead over Avesh Khan because he's doing exactly what is what Avesh Khan's role is - to go with the new ball in the middle and in the death as well,” Manjrekar told&nbsp;Sports 18.

On the other hand, former keeper-batter Kiron More said&nbsp;on Star Sports show Follow The Blues. "I’m also happy for Arshdeep Singh (for his Asia Cup selection). He has been performing well in the IPL, against West Indies, where he was the Player of the Series and bowled well. We were in search of a left-arm bowler, who we have found in Arshdeep Singh."

Arshdeep will surely like to repeat his heroics in the forthcoming Asian championship to seal his T20 WC spot as the mega event will kick off later this year, in October-November.

'He has little lead over Avesh Khan' - Manjrekar on young pacer ahead of India's T20 WC squad selection

During MS Dhoni's captaincy era, there were several reports of an alleged rift between his deputy Virender Sehwag and him. Before the commencement of the 2009 T20 World Cup, there was a lot said and written about Dhoni-Sehwag's equation in the media.&nbsp;

Thus, prior to the then defending champions India's opening clash -- versus Bangladesh -- in the second edition of the T20 WC, in England, Dhoni pulled off another unorthodox move and attended a press conference with the entire Team India players.&nbsp;

While Sehwag and the other&nbsp;members remained standing, Dhoni took a seat&nbsp;and read the official statement of the team, clearing the air&nbsp;regarding the alleged rift.

“Recent reports in the Indian media of a rift between myself and Sehwag amounts to nothing but false and irresponsible media reporting,” the statement read. “Our fans and supporters can take confidence from the wonderful unity that continues to exist in the team," it further added.&nbsp;

The entire rift rumours had got elevated when a reporter had inquired about Sehwag's fitness to Dhoni prior to the 2009 showpiece event. "Whatever is related to the fitness, you will get from the BCCI", Dhoni had replied. On being&nbsp;probed further, the keeper-batter replied,&nbsp;"I am not saying anything on that”,&nbsp;while even admitting he was very aware of the status of the injury.

For the unversed, Sehwag didn't play a single game for India in the 2009 T20 WC, where the Men in Blue bowed out in the Super Eight round.

Throwback! When MS Dhoni walked into press conference with entire team to leave reporters stunned

MS Dhoni remains a big name in international cricket. The former Indian captain retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, but remains a darling of the masses due to his rich contribution to Indian cricket.&nbsp;

In his international career, spanning from late 2004 to 2019, Dhoni ended with 17266 runs, 16 centuries, 108 half-centuries, 643 catches, 359 sixes, and 195 stumpings. In addition, he led India to all three ICC titles along with the No. 1 ranking in Tests. He became a household name for his big-hitting prowess, smart and unorthodox keeping skills, and calm and composed nature as captain.&nbsp;

Recently, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Khan made a big claim on Dhoni. According to Rashid, Dhoni's dropping percentage was as high as 21.

“Dhoni was a batsman-wicketkeeper. Obviously, Dhoni is a very big name. But if I go into stats, his dropping percentage is 21 percent, which is huge, huge,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.

"You can't use my record because this particular record came into being from 2002 or 2003. We had already played by then. Adam Gilchrist had percentage of only 11, Mark Boucher was very good. Australia's Tim Paine started well but towards the end dropped a lot of catches,” Latif asserted.

Rashid also named the best wicketkeeper-batter of the past 10-15 years. “If you look at the best in last 15 years, then I would say Quinton de Kock is superb, has kept in all three formats and batted at the top of the order in white ball cricket,” the Pakistani added.

Interestingly, the former cricketer didn't delve into the details regarding the statistics he came up with. Nevertheless, Dhoni's keeping skills have been admired and hailed by many former cricketers and he has inspired many&nbsp;emerging wicketkeepers in the country&nbsp;over the years. He will next be seen in action on the 22-yard cricket strip during IPL 2023, once again representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

'MS Dhoni's dropping percentage was 21' - Former Pakistan captain's big claim on India legend's keeping skills

Pakistan batter Sohaib Maqsood believes overexcitement is the reason behind Pakistan's poor record against India in World Cup matches. Pakistan had never won a World Cup match against India until October 2021 when the Babar Azam-led side defeated the Men in Blue by ten wickets in their meeting at the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

It was a dominant performance from Pakistan in what was their opening match of the T20 World Cup, against India last year. Babar Azam &amp; Co. bundled out India for 151 runs before chasing down the target without losing a wicket to register a comprehensive 10-wicket win.&nbsp;

Before the victory last year, Pakistan had lost all their 12 matches against India in the ODI and T20I World Cup combined. Explaining the reason behind their poor record against India in World Cup matches, Maqsood said Pakistan players used to get overexcited ahead of the India game which ended up costing the team.

Pakistan lose against India in World Cup matches due to overexcitement, says Sohaib Maqsood

After India's successful white-ball tour of West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will now shift their focus towards the forthcoming Asia Cup, in UAE, which will be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (to kick off later this year in Australia).

While India are ticking a lot of boxes, they do have some issues to sort out while finalising their T20 WC squad. Along with problems of plenty, India also need Virat Kohli to return to form at the earliest. The former Indian skipper has looked out of sorts for long and even ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats. His century-drought also continues since 2019 whereas his similar sort of dismissals -- chasing the ball on the fourth or fifth-stump line -- have led to his criticism.

A lot has been said and written about Kohli's batting slot. Should India open with Kohli and Rohit or is the former best suited at his preferred slot, i.e. No. 3? Or, can he be demoted? Amid all this, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel suggested that Kohli should be promoted as an opener, to play freely and not as per the situation.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said ahead of India's squad selection for Asia Cup,&nbsp;"I would want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open. I want Kohli to open, so that he can just go out and unleash himself. He's taken a break, but we all know there's no shortage of ability in his batting style.

"As an opener, you start the game at 0-0. Whereas at No.3, you have to play according to the situation. Kohli can play the way he wants and can still play at a strike rate of 170, and if two wickets have fallen early, he can also play at 130," he stated.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said ahead of India's squad selection for Asia Cup, "I would want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open. Hardik Pandya reveals why captain Rohit Sharma is not playing in 5th T20I against West Indies

Team India have witnessed several captaincy changes already this year with as many as seven captains leading the team across formats so far in 2022. While Rohit Sharma is India's permanent captain across all three formats, there have been multiple captaincy changes this year due to COVID-19, injuries and giving rest to players.

The Indian team started 2022 with KL Rahul captaining the side in the first Test match of the year against South Africa before Virat Kohli came back to lead the team in the next game. Kohli then quit all three formats as captain allowing Rohit to take over as India's all-format captain. However, Rohit missed India's ODI series against South Africa due to an injury and Rahul again lead&nbsp;the team.

Rohit then made a comeback from injury and led India against West Indies and Sri Lanka at home. Following the conclusion of IPL 2022, Rohit was rested from the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home where Rahul was supposed to lead the side again. However, Rishabh Pant took the captaincy baton due to an injury to Rahul.

India then headed to Ireland for a&nbsp;T20I without a number of senior players, who were busy preparing for the one-off Test against England at the same time. Hardik Pandya led India against Ireland becoming the 5th captain to lead the Indian team in 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah then was asked to captain India in absence of a COVID-positive Rohit in the one-off Test against England before Shikhar Dhawan led the team in the recently-concluded ODI series against West Indies in the absence of the Hitman.

When asked about the multiple captaincy changes for India so far in 2022, skipper Rohit Sharma said it is important to have leadership in the squad. Rohit said it was a positive sign that India have so many players who can be relied upon for the captaincy position.

"I think it's very important to have that leadership, but obviously, you know, we play the IPL and it's a 10-team tournament. So, there will be 10 captains who, at some stage, will be a part of the Indian team as well," Rohit said on Star Sports' show "Follow The Blues".

Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan shine as India thrash West Indies by 59 runs in 4th T20I, seal series

Virat Kohli has been going through one of the worst lean patches in his international career so far as he has struggled to score runs consistently across formats for team India. The former India captain has not scored a century since November 2019 and has endured a woeful run with the bat recently.&nbsp;

Kohli was part of India's Test and limited-overs squad during the recently-concluded tour of England where he flopped massively and failed to get going. The lack of runs from his bat also led to several former cricketers and experts questioning the senior batter's place in India's T20I squad ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year.

While he has been criticised by many for his poor form with calls to drop him from T20Is, Kohli still retains the confidence of captain Rohit Sharma and the Indian team management. The senior batter will be backed by the team management despite his current poor form.&nbsp;

In the wake of Kohli's disastrous run for the Indian team, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez shared his views on India's decision to rest Kohli from the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. While Hafeez insisted Kohli has lost his impact over the last couple of years, the decision to rest him is a good one from&nbsp;the Indian team.

Virat Kohli has been going through one of the worst lean patches in his international career so far as he has struggled to score runs consistently across formats for team India. The former India captain has not scored a century since November 2019 and has endured a woeful run with the bat recently. 'He has lost his impact': Former Pakistani all-rounder makes bold comment on Virat Kohli's poor form

Since the early 2010s, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the mainstays of Team India. While both the cricketers have a huge following, their fans often engage in a tussle on social media platforms regarding who is the best among the duo.

However, when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer was asked to comment on the Kohli vs Rohit debate on social media, Arun Dhumal gave an interesting take.&nbsp;

"We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that. And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions. That is why people think it persists. We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true," Dhumal stated in a video posted on senior journalist Vimal Kumar's YouTube channel.

Dhumal also spoke about the much-talked about Kohli vs BCCI captaincy saga. "As far as the issue of captaincy is concerned, it was his call. He decided that&nbsp;mujhe ab nahi karni hai captaincy&nbsp;(that I don’t want to captain). It is possible that someone feels it’s best to do it after the World Cup, but that is their point of view. But he wanted to quit, and it was purely his decision. And we respected it. He has contributed so much to Indian cricket that everyone in the cricket board respects him. We would like to see Virat in action on the ground," he added.

Both Rohit and Kohli are indispensable to the Indian cricket team and are expected to reunite for India's upcoming Asia Cup 2022 campaign. At present, Kohli has been rested for India's ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies.

Mohammed Shami remains one of India's finest pacers in the modern era. A regular in the Test and ODI line-up, Shami hasn't played a lot of T20Is prior to and even before the last year's World Cup, held in the UAE. Before represting India in the 2021 T20 WC, Shami's last appearance in the format came in December 2020.

Before the 2022 T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia, Shami has reportedly been informed by the BCCI selection committee that he isn't in consideration for T20Is. As per a report in Inside Sport, the selectors want to continue with Shami in Tests and ODIs, however, they want to try youngsters in the shortest format of the game.

“Shami isn’t getting any younger and we need him fresh for Tests. That is why he is not being considered for T20s. We have had a chat with him post-T20 World Cup on his workload management. This is how it is going to be now. For now, he is not in plans for T20s and the focus will be on youngsters,” a member of the selection committee told the portal.

Shami last played T20 cricket during IPL 2022, where he was part of the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) camp. The 31-year-old returned with 20 wickets in 16 games, at an average of 18.30, and ended with sixth-most wickets overall.&nbsp;

The Indian seamer has so far played just 17 T20Is in his international career since 2014. Shami's case is similar to that of opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has also been sidelined from Tests and T20Is but remains in the scheme of things in ODIs. The idea behind such a decision also has to do with the players' workload management.

Mohammed Shami not part of Team India's T20I plans, confirms BCCI selection committee member

The cricketing fans are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The forthcoming mega event in Asia will be held in the shortest format of the game and will see India and Pakistan face each other at least twice and are most likely to also clash in the final.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee tournament, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif opined on the upcoming Indo-Pak clash and feels Babar Azam-led Men in Green are better placed than their arch-rivals Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. He also revealed India's flaws while speaking on his official YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’.

"Win or loss is different. But I think Pakistan's strategy is looking much better. There are not many changes in the Pakistan side, whether it's T20I, ODI or Test. When you look at India, they have had around 7 captains in the past year, which is quite inappropriate in present situation," Latif said.

“Kohli isn't there, Rohit and Rahul were injured. Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant came as captains, Shikhar Dhawan (ODI) also came as a captain. They would have some problem making their best team. It is no doubt that India have the best players but they can't make their best-16, and I think they would have problems even forming their best XI,” the ex-Pakistani&nbsp;stumper further asserted.

“Pakistan won because of India's mistakes last year, and I think this time, Pakistan will benefit from India's mistakes again,” added Latif.

There is a strong chance for India and Pakistan to face each other thrice as the two heavyweights are expected to meet in the tournament-finale. Even if that doesn't happen, the two Asian giants are set to lock horns in their respective T20 World Cup openers, at MCG, Melbourne.

Asia Cup: Ex-Pakistan captain feels Babar Azam & Co. better placed than India, points out Men in Blue's flaws

KL Rahul, India's vice-captain, has been out of action since end of IPL 2022. Rahul played the entire IPL 15 edition, where he led debutants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the playoffs, before a groin injury led to him missing the home T20Is versus South Africa and the entire England and Ireland tour. After recovering from the injury, he tested positive for Covid-19 and missed out on the ongoing white-ball tour of West Indies as well.

Thus, Rahul's last international appearance came in February 2022. Thus, the 30-year-old is facing a tough period whereas the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue are preparing hard for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, to be held in October-November. Recently, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris shared his take on Rahul and fears that the dashing opener might not reclaim his spot so easily as his absence has led to many other players getting opportunities and making the most of their chances (such as Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, etc.)

“I know as a player myself, you never wanted to give somebody else a chance to take your spot. So with the fact that he's out injured and he's away from the team at the moment, it just means that other players are able to do what Suryakumar is doing, what Rishabh Pant is doing, getting in there, taking the chance scoring runs and really posing the selectors some questions saying, do we actually need KL Rahul?"

'He has....' - Former NZ all-rounder fears for KL Rahul's comeback in Team India ahead of T20 WC

After the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE, Indian cricket was at its bottom. Following India's Super 12 round exit, Virat Kohli left captaincy in the shortest format -- a decision he had already taken and announced prior to the tournament. However, what followed was total mayhem.&nbsp;

Kohli was sacked as the ODI captain before India's departure for the tour of South Africa, in early December 2021. After the three-match Test series versus the Proteas, the star batter resigned as the red-ball skipper as well. This led to many speculating that all is not well between Kohli and the BCCI. Recently, BCCI treasurer Amul Singh Dhumal told a senior journalist that it was Kohli's decision to leave captaincy altogether and the board had no role to play.

"As far as the issue of captaincy is concerned, it was his call. He decided that&nbsp;mujhe ab nahi karni hai captaincy&nbsp;(that I don’t want to captain). Ever since Kohli left captaincy altogether, his form has been very poor. In the England tour, he failed to register a single half-century whereas his century-drought continues since late 2019.

In this regard, Dhumal said, "See… as far as Virat is concerned, he is not a simple player. He is a great and his contribution to Indian cricket is unparalleled. It is outstanding. So, such conversations (board is trying to sideline Kohli) keep taking place in the media and it does not affect us. We want him to return to form soon, and as far as team selection is concerned, we leave it to the selectors. It is their call as to how they want to go about it."

'I don't want to lead': BCCI treasurer reveals it was Virat Kohli's decision to leave India captaincy

Team India is preparing hard for the forthcoming 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia from October-November. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. are finalising their squad and have a new headache, i.e. to finalise their opening slot with captain Rohit set to be one of the openers.&nbsp;

In regular vice-captain KL Rahul's absence, India have tried the likes of Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav at the top. In the England T20Is, Pant accompanied Rohit whereas SKY is currently opening the Indian innings with Hitman in the ongoing West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island.&nbsp;

While the opening combination is still to be finalised, former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar recalled MS Dhoni's brilliant move where the then captain zeroed in on his two opening batters ahead of India's unbeaten run in 2013 Champions Trophy.&nbsp;

"There was one decision made by Dhoni in 2013 Champions Trophy to send Rohit to open. Dinesh (Karthik) was batting so well in the practice games but Rohit had to play... so the management then, mostly captain Dhoni, found a spot for Rohit at the top of the order. That was a brilliant move," Sridhar told cricket.com.
