Former India captain Virat Kohli helped Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in taking a successful review during the first ODI against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (February 06). The incident happened during the 22nd over of West Indies' innings after India won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.

On the fifth delivery of the 22nd over, West Indies batter Shamarh Brooks edged the ball to Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal. The on-field umpire was not convinced and adjudged the batter not-out. However, Chahal and other Indian players managed to convince Rohit to go for the review.

The conversation between the Indian players and skipper Rohit was caught on the stump-mic. While wicket-keeper Pant, who had a good view of the situation, said he was unsure if the ball had hit the bat, Kohli stepped in and convinced Rohit to go for the review. Kohli told the Indian captain the ball had definitely hit the bat.

"Rohit bat bhi laga hai and bat pad pe laga hai. Mere ko toh laga out hai (Rohit ball has hit the bat and the bat has hit the pad, I think it's out)," Kohli can be heard telling Rohit on the stump-mic. The video of the incident soon went viral on social media.

Rohit opted for the review and the replays confirmed the ball had clearly hit the bat of Brook before landing in Pant's gloves. The batter was sent packing on 12 off 26 balls as West Indies lost their sixth wicket in the game.

Ishan Kishan, Shahrukh Khan added to India's ODI squad for first game against West Indies

India's limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma is gearing up to lead the team in his first ODI series as full-time captain of the Indian team. India will lock horns with West Indies in the series-opener of the three-match ODI series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (February 06). Rohit had to miss India's tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury but has now returned to the squad after recovering fully.

Ahead of the start of the three-match ODI series against Kieron Pollard & Co., the Indian captain answered reporters' questions during a virtual pre-match press conference on Saturday. Rohit spoke on a range of topics from the COVID-19 situation in the Indian team to the team's vision in limited-overs cricket going forward.

Rohit was also asked about the lack of opportunities in the Indian team for the young openers Ruturak Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan. While Kishan was initially not part of the ODI squad and had been picked only in the T20I side, he was selected in the ODI squad after Shikhar Dhawan, Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

Rohit came up with a cheeky response to the question and asked the reporter if he wanted him to bench himself and senior opener Dhawan to give chances to the likes of Kishan and Gaikwad. "You are saying I and Shikhar should sit on the bench and give Ruturaj and Ishan chances at the top?"- Rohit responded.

"The top 3 batters in Indian ODI team have done very well. Young batters will get opportunities. Ishan is getting one. There are a lot of matches. The ones who do well will get opportunities. Dhawan did well in SA but is now affected by Covid. Ishan is getting the opportunity now," he added.

Apart from Gaikwad, Dhawan and Iyer, pacer Navdeep Saini has also tested positive for the virus and is currently in isolation. All four players are likely to not feature in the ODI series against West Indies. Vice-captain KL Rahul, who also plays as an opener, will miss the first ODI due to personal reasons which will see Kishan get an opportunity at the top.

However, Rahul will be available for selection from the second ODI. Mayank Agarwal has also been added to India's ODI squad after COVID-19 cases in the team but the batter is currently in quarantine and will not feature in the first ODI of the series.

'You want me & Shikhar Dhawan on bench?': Rohit Sharma stumps reporter after question on Kishan, Gaikwad

The Indian team was dealt with a huge blow ahead of the start of the upcoming ODI series against West Indies as three players tested positive for COVID-19. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer have tested positive for the virus and are unlikely to feature in the three-match ODI rubber that gets underway on Sunday (February 06).

With Dhawan and Gaikwad down with COVID-19 and KL Rahul unavailable for selection in the first ODI due to personal reasons, the Indian team had to rope in Ishan Kishan and Mayank Agarwal as reserve openers ahead of the start of the series.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday confirmed his opening partner for the first ODI against the Kieron Pollard-led side. Rohit said Kishan will open the batting with him in the series-opener as Mayank is still in quarantine after joining the rest of the Indian squad in Ahmedabad.

"Ishan will open with me. Mayank is still in isolation although he has come into the squad. So, Ishan will open," Rohit told the reporters during the pre-match virtual press conference on Saturday.

Rohit himself will be returning to the field for the Men in Blue after a gap of nearly two months as he had missed India's tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury. The Hitman has fully recovered and is raring to go in what will be his first ODI series as India's full-time captain.

The first ODI between the two sides will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. While Kishan will open the batting, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda are likely to feature in the middle-order along with Rishabh Pant.

All-rounder Washington Sundar is also likely to be included in the playing XI given the absence of some of the top batters in the team.

The first ODI between the two sides will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Rohit Sharma confirms his opening partner for first ODI against West Indies in absence of Dhawan, Rahul

The Indian cricket team has been dealt with a huge setback ahead of the start of the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. The Men in Blue will lock horns with Kieron Pollard-led visitors in the first ODI of the series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (February 06).

Ahead of the series opener, three Indian players have tested positive for COVID-19 and are unlikely to feature in the three ODIs. Opening batters Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer have all tested positive for coronavirus. Team India is facing a crunch in terms of the opening slot after Dhawan and Gaikwad's positive reports.

Vice-captain KL Rahul could have opened the batting with captain Rohit Sharma in the duo's absence. However, he is set to miss the first ODI due to personal reasons. As per a report in PTI, young wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been added to India's ODI squad ahead of the start of the series.

Kishan, who also plays as an opener, has reportedly joined the Indian team in Ahmedabad and is likely to be the reserve opener in the squad. There are chances that the left-hander might open the batting with Rohit in the first ODI against West Indies on Sunday.

Apart from Kishan, Mayank Agarwal has also reportedly joined the Indian team in Ahmedabad amid COVID-19 infection to three players. While Kishan was only part of the T20I series against West Indies, Mayank was not a part of either of the two squads for the limited-overs series against West Indies.

Ishan Kishan added to India's ODI squad as Dhawan, Gaikwad test positive for COVID-19 - Report

The Indian cricket team is all set to become the first team in history to complete the milestone of playing 1,000 ODIs. India will be taking the field in their 1000th ODI when they lock horns with West Indies in the first ODI of the upcoming three-match series against Kieron Pollard-led side.

The first ODI of the series will be played on February 06 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India have so far played a total of 999 ODI matches having won 518 games while losing 431. Ahead of the Men in Blue's historic 100th appearance in the ODI format, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar said it is an achievement that the entire nation should be proud of.

Sachin said the historic achievement was possible only because of the contributions of the past and present cricketers of the Indian team. He also credited the BCCI for making India a force to reckon with in world cricket. The Master Blaster also lauded the fans, who have constantly been behind the Indian team over the years.

"India playing the 1000th ODI is a huge milestone. The first ODI was played in 1974, it was only possible because of the past cricketers, current cricketers, the past and current board members," Tendulkar said, as quoted by 100 MB.

"And not to forget the most important people, our Indian cricket team well-wishers, from the past generations and the ones who are today with us.

"I want to say it is an achievement for all of us and the entire nation should be proud of this and hope Indian cricket continues to grow from strength to strength. I wish them all the very best for the coming series and especially for the 1000th ODI," he added.

"No, nothing as such as everything is being held in the bubble. We have to maintain the COVID-19 protocols so yes elaborate celebrations won’t be possible and in any case matches are being held closed doors," Ganguly told PTI.

India to play 1000th ODI: From Kapil, Dhoni to Ganguly - Captains who led Men in Blue in historic ties

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remain the biggest two names in Indian cricket at present. While the captaincy baton has been passed from Kohli to Rohit in the white-ball formats, Indian cricket is set to enter a new era under Hitman in the forthcoming three-match ODI series versus West Indies at home.

Prior to the start of the India-WI series, in Ahmedabad, Rohit-Kohli are on the verge of joining former batting stars Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly in an elite list.

Kohli and Rohit are just 94 away from completing 5,000 runs in the ODI format, where both the superstars have excelled over the years. Currently, the duo have accumulated 4,906 runs, from 81 innings at 64.55 comprising 18-century stands. Thus, they can become only the third Indian batting pair to complete the milestone and join the two stalwarts -- Ganguly and Tendulkar -- who compiled a total of 8,227 runs in 176 innings. Rohit features in the list along with opening partner Shikhar Dhawan. The two have amassed 5,023 runs in 112 innings after becoming a daunting opening pair since the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Overall, the Rohit-Kohli will become the eighth batting pair to enter the 5,000-run milestone. In addition, the two have had a staggering run versus the Kieron Pollard-led West Indies. They have piled up 982 runs versus the Caribbean team and, thus, are 78 away from becoming the first-ever Indian pair to reach the 1,000-run club versus the Men in Maroon.

By virtue of this, they will once again join Tendulkar-Ganguly in becoming the second batting pair from Team India to have two or more partnership tallies of 1,000 runs, or, more, against a more than one opponent. Kohli-Rohit have over 1,000 runs as a pair versus Australia.

India vs WI ODIs: Here's why KL Rahul is not part of series opener in Ahmedabad

Rahul Dravid has served Indian cricket probably like no other cricketer. Over the years, the 49-year-old has donned various roles; i.e. being a makeshift opener, middle-order batter to a finisher, part-time keeper, taking over as captain, coaching U-19 and India A side, heading the NCA before taking over as the senior men's cricket team's head coach in late 2021. Apart from 13,288 and 10,889 runs in Tests and ODIs, respectively, Dravid has done a lot for Indian cricket and continues to be a role model for many aspiring cricketers worldwide.

Thus, Dravid -- known as The Wall -- has never been short of fans and followers worldwide. During an interaction with Vikram Sathaye, in 2016, the current head coach Dravid revealed a hilarious, or rather 'scary', interaction with a female fan who turned up at his house in Bengaluru and refused to leave.

It ended quite well but it was a wake-up call for my parents that you don’t let anyone in just like that," the legendary cricketer revealed while laughing. I'm not going to leave: When Rahul Dravid was gobsmacked after a female fan refused to leave his house

On January 15, Virat Kohli gave up Test captaincy. This came a day after India lost the three-match Test series versus South Africa 2-1, in the rainbow nation. While Kohli had already resigned as the T20I captain and was sacked as the ODI skipper, he was expected to carry on as the leader in whites for a few more years.

Thus, Team India is set to enter a new phase in the upcoming white-ball home series versus West Indies where Rohit Sharma will completely take over as the limited-overs skipper. Many eyes will still be on Kohli, who will play his first-ever home series without captaincy responsibilities on his shoulders. Ahead of the India-WI ODIs, which gets underway on February 6, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir opined on Kohli the player. The 2011 World Cup-winning member Gambhir feels nothing changes for Kohli and the Rahul Dravid-led team management's approach towards him following his captaincy tenure.

"Nothing changes," Gambhir told Sports Today. He opined, "When you are growing up as a kid you want to try and win games for the country and that is all that matters. You don't dream of captaining the side from day one so for me nothing changes. If it does then there is something seriously wrong. Captaincy is just a honour and responsibility and I'm sure Virat would be thinking the same way."

It is just an honour: Gautam Gambhir feels nothing changes for Virat Kohli post captaincy tenure

Team India is set to start a new era in the forthcoming white-ball series versus West Indies, at home. Rohit Sharma-led India will be eager to move past the horrific ODI series versus South Africa, in the African nation, where they were whitwashed 3-0 and will now look to come to their very best on home soil.

The upcoming India-West Indies series will also be of great significance to Virat Kohli, who will play his first-ever series at home after giving up captaincy altogether. While he had resigned as the T20I captain in mid-2021 and sacked as the ODI skipper in December, he gave up Test captaincy early this year.

The 33-year-old Kohli will have all eyes on him as the former captain has had an indifferent run with the bat since late 2019. He hasn't scored an international hundred since India's first day-night Test in late November, 2019. While his form in white-ball cricket still remains decent, it isn't as per the standards set by him. Thus, former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar opined in this regard and feels the quicker Kohli rediscovers his form, the better it would be for newly-appointed white-ball captain Rohit.

Speaking on Star Sports' show Game Plan ahead of the India-WI ODIs, Agarkar pointed out saying, "At the end of the day you’re only successful as successful your team is and if you don’t win, it eventually doesn’t matter how great a player you are out on the field, it’s not enjoyable playing in the team."

“We talk about different combinations before - Virat Kohli would be a key factor because of the kind of the player that he is but at the moment he isn’t at his best, which is a fact and the quicker he discovers his form it’s going to be that much easier for Rohit Sharma to then manage that thing because of what he can do on his own, Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli’s form is a concern, but we all know what a player he is. So, hopefully, he discovers his form sooner rather than later,” quipped Agarkar.

Rising T20 sensation M Shahrukh Khan and his state-mate, orthodox left-arm spinner Ravi Srinivas Sai Kishore, will be joining the Indian white-ball team as stand-by players for the upcoming six-match series against the West Indies.

Both Shahrukh and Sai Kishore played a huge part in Tamil Nadu's victorious campaign and their call-up is more of a precautionary measure in COVID-19 times when there is every possibility of a player from the main squad testing positive.

"Yes, Shahrukh and Sai Kishore have been called as stand bys for the Windies series. They will also enter the bubble with main team players," a senior BCCI official confirmed the development to PTI.

The limited overs series starts in Ahmedabad on February 6 with a three-match ODI rubber followed by three T20 Internationals in Kolkata.
For Sai Kishore, this is the second opportunity in an Indian team set-up after he was part of the net bowlers' group during a tour of Sri Lanka under Rahul Dravid last year.

Shahrukh, who was in contention to make it to the main squad, has been in the news this season for scoring runs at critical stages, including a last ball six against Karnataka, to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.

It was the same match where his colleague Sai Kishore got three wickets.
Similarly, against the same opponents in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final, he smashed 79 off 39 balls and his contribution in the final against HP was 42 off 21 balls.

While he might have to wait for his turn as head coach Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma give enough chances to the men who are above him in the pecking order of finishers, he can fancy an opportunity when the big guns are rested as the season progresses.
Ditto for Sai Kishore, who will be joining more as a net bowler with Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel in the set-up.

Shahrukh Khan and R Sai Kishore to join Team India as reserves for West Indies series

Team India is now gearing up for the white-ball series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies at home. The national side ended a disastrous tour of South Africa, where the senior team lost the three Tests 2-1 but were whitewashed in the preceding three ODIs.

During the ODIs, the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, KL Rahul (who was the stand-in captain) and the middle and lower-order failed to do anything extra ordinary. After the flop show in South Africa, the Men in Blue will now look to return back to winning ways versus the West Indies team.

Prior to the series, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has issued warning to key bowler Yuzi Chahal to be among wickets after the flop show in SA. "You expect Chahal to take wickets in the middle overs but he wasn't as successful. As a captain, I would expect this from Chahal because he's playing for so many years. These are wickets where there is spin and bounce (talking about the ODI series in South Africa),” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.

“Chahal will be under pressure. If he doesn't take wickets, there are players like Rahul Chahar who was picked ahead of him in the T20 World Cup, and Ravi Bishnoi as well, who has been producing consistent performances. I believe both, India and Chahal will have to think about this because his main role in the team is to take wickets in the middle overs. If he doesn't even bowl 10 overs on a wicket that assists spin (Cape Town ODI), it shows that he didn't meet the expectations," he added.

The 33-year-old from Barbados has been a regular in West Indies test squads but played the last of his 92 one-dayers against India at Port of Spain in August 2019. "Kemar Roach is one of our leading fast bowlers and we believe we need bowlers upfront to get early wicket," newly-appointed chief selector Desmond Haynes said in a statement. "...Kemar, with an economy rate of five, is certainly good enough to play."West Indies also recalled opener Brandon King and middle-order batsman Nkrumah Bonner in their 15-member squad led by all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Kemar Roach recalled as West Indies announce a strong 15-man squad for India ODIs

The BCCI announced 18-member ODI and T20I squads for Team India's white-ball series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies on Wednesday (January 26). As it was reported earlier that Rohit Sharma had passed the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bengaluru, Hitman has returned to the squad after missing the entire South Africa tour. Rohit was appointed as the white-ball captain in early December 2021, however, he missed leading the side in the three ODIs in South Africa due to hamstring injury. Nonetheless, he has returned as Rohit will gear up to play his first ODI series since early 2021.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, however, remained unfit and couldn't return to the line-up, failing to recovering from his knee injury. Selectors didn't include Hardik Panya as well, in any of the squads, as they aren't fully confident of his ability to deliver as an all-rounder due to fitness concerns. R Ashwin, meanwhile, is not in any squads for being unavailable for selection and the offie is undergoing treatment. Bhuvneshwar Kumar held onto his T20I spot but isn't in the scheme of things for ODIs.

Sources close to the development have already confirmed that members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee are set to conduct a meeting to announce the Indian squad for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies on Wednesday. KL Rahul is expected to remain Rohit's deputy across all formats. On the other hand, the selectors are expected to rest ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah for the West Indies series. The WI series will be followed by Sri Lanka's tour of India, comprising two Tests and three T20Is.

BCCI revises schedule for India's home series against West Indies, ODIs shifted to Ahmedabad

India beat West Indies by 107 runs in the second one-day international to level the series at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Batsmen Rohit Sharma(159) and KL Rahul(102) were the stars of the show putting on a record breaking 227-run opening partnership followed by Kuldeep Yadav who took a hat-trick as the visitor's crashed to defeat.

Earlier, West Indies opted to field first for the second game in succession but unlike the first ODI there was no Indian top-order collapse instead Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul shared a mammoth 227-run partnership for the first wicket at better than a run-a-ball despite largely batting within themselves.

Rahul was the aggressor early on, but Rohit caught up - as he usually does - later in the innings and brought up his 28th one-day century from 108 balls. Two overs later, Rahul got to his third one-day ton to continue a rich recent vein of form but was dismissed by al-zari Joseph for 102.

Captain Virat Kohli then fell to a rare first-ball duck to the bowling of his opposite number Keiron Pollard - but it did not dent India's momentum.

The hosts scored 137 runs in the last 10 overs, 93 of them in the last 6 as Rishabh Pant and half-centurion Shreyas Iyer smacked the Windies bowlers all over the park to lead India to 387 for 5.

West Indies started well, reaching 56 for no loss after the first 10 overs, but fell away after Evin Lewis fell to Thakur. Hope(78) and Pooran(75) were the only stand-out batsmen along with Paul who scored 46 as the West Indian innings folded at 280 in just 43.3 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav's hat-trick propped up the hosts as India closed the match on a high. Rohit Sharma was declared the man of the match.

2nd ODI: India thrash West Indies, level series

Centuries from Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope powered West Indies to an eight-wicket win over India after chasing down a target of 288 in the first one-day international on Sunday.

Hetmyer, who hit a career-best 139, and Hope, unbeaten on 102, put on a key 218-run second-wicket partnership as West Indies eased to victory with 13 balls to spare and lead the three-match series 1-0.

The left-handed Hetmyer completed his fifth ODI ton in 85 balls to take control with Hope, a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, after the early fall of Sunil Ambris for nine.

Hetmyer, who hit his second hundred against India and survived a dropped chance on 106, smashed 11 fours and seven sixes in his 106-ball knock to pulverise the Indian bowlers.

Mohammed Shami finally broke through to get Hetmyer back in the pavilion but Hope stood firm to complete his eighth ODI hundred.

He got company from Nicholas Pooran who hit the winning boundary to stay unbeaten 29.

Indian batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant made half-centuries to guide India to 287 for eight after they lost early wickets following West Indies' decision to bowl first.

Iyer, who made 70, and Pant, who hit 71, put on 114 for the fourth wicket after India were left struggling at 80 for three.

Pace spearhead Sheldon Cottrell struck twice in one over, including nabbing skipper Virat Kohli for four with a slower delivery that the star batsman inside edged on to his stumps.

Iyer completed his third successive ODI fifty while Pant -- a wicketkeeper-batsman who is often criticised for throwing away his wicket -- raised his first during a 69-ball knock laced with seven fours and one six.

Kedar Jadhav played a useful cameo of 40 during his 59-run sixth-wicket stand with Ravindra Jadeja, who made 21, to boost India's scoring in the final few overs.

Keemo Paul broke through with the wicket of Jadhav, and there was drama on the very next ball with Jadeja run out after a delayed umpire call.

Roston Chase hit the stumps at the bowler's end where Jadeja was running and South African umpire Shaun George did not call for the third umpire.

But replays suggested Jadeja was short of his crease, prompting the on-field official to refer it to the TV umpire who then gave it out, as an angry Kohli shook his head in disapproval in the dressing room.

West Indies beat India by 8 wickets in first ODI

Lendl Simmons' stylish 67 ensured that West Indies defeat India comprehensively to level the three-match series here in Trivandrum on Sunday.

Chasing a stiff target of 171, West Indies remained flawless throughout the second innings. Simmons and Evin Lewis opening partnership of 73 runs laid a solid foundation as the visitors won the match with nine balls to spare and eight wickets in hand. Simmons remained not out as Nicholas Pooran (38) struck a boundary against the bowling of Deepak Chahar to finish off the proceedings.

Washington Sundar was the only Indian bowler who restricted West Indies' scoring rate and ended up with one wicket by giving only 26 runs in his four overs. Ravindra jadeja also claimed one wicket but was smacked for 22 runs in his two overs.

Simmons was awarded Player of the Match trophy for his unbeaten 67 runs which included four sixes.

Earlier West Indies captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and elected to field first. Pollard's decison to bowl first was rewarded as the Indian openers were unable to provide a good start to the team.

However, Dube's maiden T20 international fifty ensured that the hosts continued scoring at a brisk pace. Dube, who was promoted to crucial number 3 spot, struck four sixes and three fours before getting dismissed on 54 off 30 balls.

West Indies' disciplined bowling attack ensured that India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Most of the Indian batsmen failed to convert their starts into a big score and Rishabh Pant's quickfire 33, in the end, gave the impetus to India to put up a fighting total of 170 for the loss of seven wickets.

Kohli, who single-handedly pulled off the last match, was unable to repeat his performance and was caught on 19. However, Kohli surpassed his fellow mate Rohit Sharma in the battle of scoring most runs in T20 international cricket.

Kesrick Williams and Hayden Walsh picked up most wickets (2) for the Carribean.

Shimron Hetmyer played the lead role in his 41-ball stay at the crease hitting two boundaries and four sixes before falling to Chahal's guile for 56. Hetmyer fell in the 18th over after West Indies reached 172 for the loss of four wickets as the Indian bowling attack wilted.

Pollard came good in the latter half of the innings hitting a quickfire 37 in just 19 balls with one boundary and four sixes and was ably supported by Holder who scored 24 in 9 balls with one boundary and two sixes.

Medium pacer Deepak Chahar had a tough day in the office as the West Indies batsman feasted on his bowling as he gave away 56 in four overs.

Jadeja and Chahal kept a lid on the batsman picking up three wickets between them giving away 66 runs in their allotted 8 overs but West Indies batsmen managed to still cross the 200-run mark.

The visitor finished the last over ripping apart medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who conceded 17 runs giving away a six and boundary as captain Virat Kohli dropped a sharp, running catch which eventually rolled over the boundary line.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 94 hitting six boundaries and an equal number of sixes in just 50 balls take India home as the hosts chased 207 for victory. Opener KL Rahul provided the momentum earlier in the innings even as Rohit Sharma fell early to Pierre for just 8 as India lost their first wicket on 30. Thereafter it was a Rahul-Kohli show with West Indian bowlers unable to stem the flow of runs. Rahul looked in immaculate form to take the lead scoring all round the wicket. The Indian opener hit five boundaries and four sixes in his 40-ball stay at the crease to take the game away from the visitors. Wicketkeeper Rishab Pant provided the final flourish hitting two sixes as the Indian captain hit a six to finish off the game. Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against West Indies due to a knee injury. Sanju Samson will replace Dhawan in the squad.

Dhawan suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Maharashtra in Surat. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team assessed him on Tuesday to review the healing of his wound. The medical team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely.

The selectors had announced the Indian ODI and T20I squad for series against West Indies on November 21. Samson's exclusion from the squad did not go down well with many supporters as they criticised the selectors for not giving him a chance.

Samson was a part of the T20I squad for series against Bangladesh, but he was not given a chance in the playing XI as Rishabh Pant was preferred over him.

Sanju Samson to play in T20 series after four years, will replace injured Dhawan

India completed another crushing victory over the West Indies, demolishing the home side by 257 runs on the fourth afternoon of the second and final Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Monday.

Set the improbable target of 468 late on day three, the home side tumbled in the post-lunch session, losing their last six wickets for 51 runs as they were dismissed for 210 to hand Virat Kohli's side a clean sweep of a Test series in the Caribbean for the first time ever.

This result also completed a 100 percent record for the tourists in all completed matches played on this tour. The 2-0 Test series triumph followed a 3-0 success in the T20 Internationals and a 2-0 victory in the One-Day Internationals, with one match ruined by rain.

Pacer Mohammed Shami and spinner Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each as the Indians once again had too many varied weapons for the home side.

Shamarh Brooks completed a maiden Test half-century but it was little consolation for West Indies captain Jason Holder who was last out, bowled by Jadeja for 39 to trigger the Indian celebrations.

"This was pretty comprehensive again for us," said Kohli in assessing his team's dominant performance yet again. "We played good cricket and getting the result in the manner you want is crucial as a team. This is a real collective effort."

Amid the jubilation there was concern for the welfare of key West Indies batsman Darren Bravo, who retired hurt on 23 just 15 minutes into the day's play. He was eventually replaced by Jermaine Blackwood in the team according to the game's new concussion protocol.

Resuming his innings in partnership with Brooks with the score at 45 for two, Bravo appeared to be feeling unwell and was attended to and subsequently led off the field on his own steam.

He was struck on the back of the helmet by fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the final over of the third day's play and continued batting for the remaining three deliveries of the day after receiving treatment.

Australian Marnus Labuschagne was the first concussion replacement in the history of the game last month when he replaced Steve Smith during the second innings of the second Test against England at Lord's after Smith was struck on the neck by fast bowler Jofra Archer.

Blackwood was called into duty within minutes of being drafted into the team after Shimron Hetmyer fell to yet another poor shot, caught at extra-cover to give fast bowler Ishant Sharma his second wicket of the innings.

With Bravo and Blackwood both batting in the same innings, it gave West Indies the first 12-batsman Test scorecard under the protocol.

Earlier Roston Chase was the first wicket to fall in the day after coming to the crease when Bravo went off, being trapped leg-before by Jadeja.

Blackwood dominated a 61-run fifth-wicket partnership with Brooks but when the attacking right-hander became Bumrah's only wicket of the innings via a catch at the wicket, it signalled the beginning of the end of the West Indies resistance with Brooks' own carelessness contributing to his demise as he was run out by a direct hit from the effervescent Kohli.

"We've got lots of problems with the batting," said a despondent Holder. "It's a tough question as to how we fix this situation. There is quite a bit of time before our next Test so it's up to the players to take ownership of the situation."

Despite the dominance of the Indian bowlers, it was batsman Hanuma Vihari who earned the "Man of the Match" award for his maiden Test hundred in the first innings, which he followed with an unbeaten half-century in the second to help hasten Kohli's declaration on the third afternoon.

India beat West Indies by 257 runs, win Test series 2-0

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said he owes his maiden test hat-trick to captain Virat Kohli, who successfully reviewed a leg-before decision which was initially turned down in the ongoing second match against West Indies.

After dismissing Darren Bravo and Shamarh Brooks in consecutive deliveries at Kingston's Sabina Park, Bumrah's timid lbw shout against Roston Chase was initially turned down by on-field umpire Paul Reiffel.

A confident Kohli, however, decided to review and replays showed the ball would have struck the leg stump. The decision was overturned, with Bumrah becoming the third Indian bowler to claim a test hat-trick.

"I was not very sure of the appeal," Bumrah told Kohli in an interview to bcci.tv.

"I thought it was bat (first), so I didn't appeal so much. But it was a good review in the end, and I think I owe the hat-trick to the captain."

Bumrah finished with 6-27 as West Indies were bowled out for 117 in reply India's 416 in the first innings.

It followed the 25-year-old's blistering second innings spell in the opening test where he finished with 5-7. Ishant Sharma took eight wickets in that match and Mohammed Shami chipped in with four as India recorded a convincing 318 runs victory.

Bumrah put down his recent success on pace-friendly tracks to his camaraderie with senior bowlers in the squad.

"There's a lot of communication that goes on the field as well," Bumrah told reporters.

"When I'm getting wickets, it's somebody else's job to create pressure, and when somebody else is getting wickets, (it's) my job is to create pressure.

"We got a good relationship all of us, we want to get better every year."

India's Jasprit Bumrah thanks skipper Virat Kohli for review call after hat-trick

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah recorded his first hat-trick in his international career on day two of the second Test of the two-match series between India and West Indies.

With this hat-trick, Bumrah became only the third Indian to achieve the feat in the longest format of the game. Previously Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan had taken hat-tricks in Test matches for India.

Harbhajan had achieved the feat against Australia in 2001 whereas Pathan had taken a hat-trick against Pakistan in 2006.

Bumrah dismissed Darren Dravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase in successive balls in the 9th over of the Windies innings.

Bravo was sent back to the pavilion as Bumrah had him caught at the second slip. Brooks and Chase were caught plum in front and both were adjudged leg-before wicket.

Chase was originally given not-out but Kohli had opted for a review and the ball tracker showed that the ball was clearly hitting the stumps.

Earlier in the day, India was bowled out for 416 in the first innings.

Resuming day two at 264/5, India got off to the worst start possible as the side lost Pant (27) on the first ball of the day. Windies skipper Jason Holder bowled an inswinger to dismantle the stumps of Pant.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja next came into bat and he provided support to the overnight batter Hanuma Vihari. The duo played cautiously and stitched a 38-run stand, but their resistance was cut short by Rahkeem Cornwall as he dismissed Jadeja (16) to reduce India to 302/7.

Holder had one decision going his way as the umpire ruled Vihari leg-before wicket, but the batsman reviewed the call, and the DRS saved him as the ball was missing the stumps.

The team did not lose any more wicket and India went to the lunch break with a score of 336/7.

After the lunch break, both Ishant and Vihari scored at a brisk pace and their partnership saw Ishant bringing up his half-century and Vihari bringing up his maiden ton. Looking for big shots, tailender Ishant (57) perished as he was sent back to the pavilion by Kraigg Brathwaite, and the 112-run partnership came to an end between Ishant and Vihari.

After Ishant`s dismissal, India`s innings folded for 416 runs. Holder sent Vihari (111) back to the pavilion to scalp his fifth wicket in the innings.
