Skipper Virat Kohli talked about the shocking third Test loss as he opened up about India's middle-order batting collapse and praised opposition bowlers after England thrashed India by an innings and 76 runs to win the third Test at Headingley on Saturday (August 29) with more than a day to spare.&nbsp;

Joe Root-led team levelled the five-match series at 1-1 after India won the second match at Lord's by 151 runs and the first one ended as a draw.&nbsp;

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Virat said, "(It's) basically down to scoreboard pressure. Always up against it when you get out for under 80 and the opposition puts up such a big score," he said.&nbsp;

"But we did well to stay in the game yesterday, fight back as much as we could, and gave ourselves a chance. But the pressure today was outstanding from the England bowlers and eventually they got the results they wanted," Kohli added.&nbsp;

"The top order has to give enough runs for the lower middle-order to step up. We did pretty well in the first two games," he said.&nbsp;

"When you have a result like this, you can't take too much from it. As a batting group we need to stay close and confident; even after 36 all out (against Australia in Adelaide), we came back."&nbsp;

On being asked about the first innings collapse, Virat said, "Quite bizarre, it can happen in this country, batting collapses. We thought the pitch was good to bat on, coming on nicely."&nbsp;

"But the discipline forced mistakes and the pressure was relentless. Difficult to cope when you're not scoring runs. That caused the batting order to crumble," he added.&nbsp;

Virat also vowed to continue with five specialist bowlers but hinted at a rejig in attack for the fourth game by factoring in the workload of speed merchants. He also dismissed the idea of playing an extra batsman, something that the great Sunil Gavaskar has been constantly advocating on air.&nbsp;

"If your top six (including keeper) don't do the job there is no guarantee that the extra guy can bail you out. You have to take pride in taking responsibility and doing the job for the team."

Cheteshwar Pujara orchestrated India's spirited resistance with an unbeaten career-reviving 91 but England remained on course for a series-levelling victory in the third test at Headingley on Friday.

Under pressure to save his place in the side, Pujara added 82 runs with Rohit Sharma and 99 with Virat Kohli to steer India to 215-2 when bad light stopped third day's play.

India are still 139 runs behind but it was a much-improved performance by the tourists who had wilted for 78 in their first innings to be on the back foot.

Captain Kohli, who has had a subdued series so far, was batting on 45 and would hope to continue the good work when they resume on Saturday.

The 30-year-old surpassed the likes of Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook to guide his team to the most number of wins in Test cricket.

It took Joe Root 55 Tests to achieve this feat. He is followed by Vaughan, who won 26 matches out of 51 Tests. Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss won 24 Tests each.&nbsp;

Except for the third day, England dominated the match from the very first day, when they bundled India out for just 78 runs. England captain Joe Root scored his third consecutive ton in the series and guided hosts to a mammoth 432 runs, taking a lead of 354 runs.&nbsp;

Winning captain Joe Root was overjoyed with the win and during the post-match presentation, he said: "It was a fantastic and clinical performance from the bowlers. The two big lads put loads of pressure with three maidens, and we had a really good opportunity to take wickets and we took them ruthlessly."

"We controlled and hung in with the new ball, and we reaped the rewards. Anderson churns out performances like that and that's why he's the GOAT of Test cricket," he added.&nbsp;

With the series equalled, both teams will now head into the penultimate Test match of the series and will play each other at the Oval.

Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant was asked to take off the taping between the fourth and fifth finger of his keeping glove on day two of the third Test between England and India. The incident happened shortly before the start of the final session of the day. 
 
The MCC laws do not permit wicketkeepers to tape the fourth and fifth fingers on the glove. Umpire Alex Wharf was in conversation with Pant along with captain Virat Kohli. After that, Pant along with Kohli started to remove the brown taping from the gloves with third umpire Richard Kettleborough watching on. 
 
Law 27.2.1 of MCC Laws of cricket says, "If, as permitted under 27.1, the wicketkeeper wears gloves, they shall have no webbing between the fingers except joining index finger and thumb, where webbing may be inserted as a means of support." 
 
Former England captain Nasser Hussain, who was on commentary duties at that time, offered an explanation for the happenings on the field. 
 
"There`s a lot in the laws of the game about the webbing, but we`re hearing from the third umpire, Richard Illingworth, that he wasn`t allowed and he`s not allowed to tape his gloves like that, so they`ve asked him to take that tape off."

'I feel Team India must start rotating their players', says former Pakistan skipper

Virat Kohli-led India had a terrible opening day in the third Test, at Headingley, Leeds, versus England. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Team India fell like nine pins as they succumbed to their third-lowest score versus the hosts in whites after being all-out for 78 in 40.4 overs.

Day 2 was another&nbsp;stern test for Kohli &amp; Co, as England resumed from 120 for no loss. With half-centuries from openers Haseeb Hameed, Rory Burns, Dawid Malan along with Joe Root's 121, England ended the day's play on Thursday (August 26) being 423-8. With an overall lead of 345 runs, India remain on the back foot and have a herculean task to save the Test.

Unimpressed with Kohli's tactics and decision-making on the second day, former England captain Michael Vaughan said on Test Match Special Podcast, "You are looking at the start of the day’s play. Ishant Sharma was by far the worst Indian seamer yesterday. You start with him the next day, in an hour that you have to win, you (should) surely go to your best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Shami didn’t take the new ball yesterday for whatever reason. And Virat will have to answer it and he will have to answer it quite heavily."

“The best teams in the world adapt. This Indian team are a good team, but they can’t be up there with the great teams unless they are actually willing to accept that they need to arrive and do things differently,” added the former England captain.

From India, Mohammed Shami was their leading wicket-taker on Day 2, along with some support from Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja. While Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless but remained economical, Ishant Sharma conceded at over 4 per over and failed to provide any breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Kohli hasn't had the best of time in the third Test. He was out for a 17-ball 7 in India's first innings and his bowling changes haven't been impressive as well. India will have to find a way to remain alive in the contest on Day 3 and hope for their batsmen to come good in the second essay.

There's plenty of time left in the third Test and, hence, India will be tested in every way possible in order to avoid a defeat.

Root expects Malan to make an instant impact even though the southpaw has not played a lot of red-ball cricket of late.

"Dawid obviously offers a lot of experience in that top three, not necessarily in terms of experience in Test cricket, but he has played a huge amount of international cricket now, he's dealt with pressure situations.

"He's played a lot of red ball cricket over the course of his career and he's also had great successes in a massive series in Australia and was our leading scorer out there, so we know that he's capable of big things."

"I feel Saqib couldn't be in a better place to potentially play Test cricket, you look at how he's progressed over the last couple of years across all formats.

"But the opportunities, he's taken this year when I've been given them he's been exceptional," said Root. 
The skipper, who has been scoring the bulk of the runs for his team, is confident that under-fire batting line-up will come good.

"The most important thing about batting in Test cricket revolves around big partnerships, when two guys back for a period of time the game can look completely different. And that's got to be our focus as a batting group.
