Former Australia pacer Brett Lee recently recalled his first on-field encounter with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The duo shared one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket during their playing days. While Sachin is regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time, Lee is one of the fastest bowlers to have played the game.

Sachin, who is the leading run-getter of all time in international cricket, owns a plethora of other major records. The Master Blaster enjoyed great duels with some of the best bowlers of his time during his playing days, including Lee. The duo came up against each other on several occasions and managed to get the better of each other a few times.

On Sunday (April 24), Lee had taken to social media to send birthday wishes to Sachin, who turned 49. The former Australian pacer also paid tribute to the Master Blaster on his YouTube channel Brett Lee TV. The former speedster recalled his first meeting with Sachin and revealed he had thought of asking for an autograph from the batting legend.

“I met Sachin for the first time way back in 1999 in Canberra. I was playing in the Prime Minister's XI against the touring Indian team, which of course had Sachin in it. It was a practice match when he came out to bat and I'm bowling to the great Sachin Tendulkar. I actually thought, 'I might get an autograph. Get the ball and say, 'Hey mate, can you please sign this'. I thought that would look cool as my first impression,” Lee said in the video.

As a young kid growing up, I watched the wonderful Tendulkar and here I was, bowling to him. I managed to nick him off and we shook hands at the end of the game. I was in absolute awe of this wonderful man," Lee added.

Lee recalled how the Master Blaster would receive applause from home fans even in Australia which was not the case with other batters who came out to bat when touring Down Under.

“Most players who are not from Australia receive a fair bit of flak. They normally get booed. The crowd appreciate the players but doesn't want to show it... that's the Australian culture. But every time Sachin walked out to bat, there was massive applause, not only from the Australians but also from the touring Indians who were a part of fans that flew in from around the world to watch Sachin," said Lee.

Wriddhi (Wriddhiman Saha)&nbsp;bhai&nbsp;did all the keeping."

"We went for a scan and it was bone bruise. It wasn't a major injury, but it was very painful. We were talking to the physios because I had to bat, by hook or by crook. So we decided to take injection to help with the pain. We have to see in the nets obviously, at first. So, I took the painkiller injection during the game, went to the nets and I was trying to hold the bat but it was paining. I couldn't hold my bat properly. After this there's Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood and they will be bowling a lot faster," he pointed out.

Pant opined, “I was just telling myself, 'you have to do this, there is no choice.' Firstly, there was no intention of winning the match. First goal was to draw, because it was the last day and we needed 400 runs. Then there was an idea of making me bat at No.5 because I was injured and even if I got out then the batters to come could still look to remake. It was still paining and on top of that I took a painkiller pill too."

"Rahane got out before lunch and I got tensed. I went inside, I couldn't get my way, pressure was building, Aussies were sledging and because they were up in the game and they wanted to win. Then it was my threshold, mid on was up and he bowled me there and I hit him over mid on for a boundary. Next ball he bowled there, after a few overs, and I hit him for a six. Next over the long on was back and I was playing my normal game and I was getting runs," he revealed.

He recently revealed after the Australia Test series, Virat Kohli told him something that he would never forget in his career. The announcement was made jointly by the International Cricket Council and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) following Sri Lanka's victory in the Commonwealth Games Qualifier in Kuala Lumpur last week and the subsequent CGF ratification of the island nation's entry.

Australia, Barbados, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan have already qualified as women's cricket makes its first entry into the Commonwealth Games.

It will only be the second time that cricket features in the multi-discipline event after a men's competition was part of the Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and is considered a massive opportunity to bring the game to new audiences.

A Shaun Pollock-led South Africa had won the gold on that occasion, beating Steve Waugh's Australian side by four wickets in the final.

ICC Hall of Famers Sachin Tendulkar of India, Jacques Kallis of South Africa and Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka were among the many stars featuring in the 1998 Games.

Barbados and Pakistan are in Group A along with Australia and India while England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka form Group B.

The ICC, CGF and Commonwealth Games Sri Lanka congratulated Sri Lanka for their qualification and looked forward to an exciting tournament.
