Mithali Raj-led India face one of the two unbeaten sides, i.e. Australia in match 18 of the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup, in New Zealand, on Saturday (March 19). With the race for the semi-finals heating up with each passing day, the two-time runners-up India have a herculean task to negate the Aussie threat, who have been demolishing oppositions so far in the eight-team tournament.

While India started their campaign with a spirited win over arch-rivals Pakistan, they lost the plot versus hosts New Zealand before returning to winning ways with a big win over West Indies. They had a chance to bolster their chances of reaching the semis had they won against England, however, all is far from over for the Women in Blue despite a four-wicket loss to the defending champions.

Talking about Australia, they edged past England in their opening game before thrashing the likes of Pakistan, New Zealand and West Indies. They will like to keep up with the winning momentum as South Africa are also unbeaten, after four games, and can end as the top-ranked side.

Mithali Raj-led India have their task cut out as they lock horns with one of the two unbeatable teams, i.e. Australia, in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup on Saturday (March 19). With two wins and an equal number of losses, India are in a tricky position as far as semi-finals qualifications are concerned. Thus, they cannot afford any further slip-up as it will further complicate their task of finishing in the top-four.

Talking about India's run so far, the two-time runners-up thrashed Pakistan in their opening game before losing to New Zealand by a convincing margin. They then returned back to winning ways with a big win over then-unbeaten side West Indies, in their third game, before going down to England, who was winless before the India face-off. Will India end another team's unbeaten run in the eight-team tournament? Without a doubt, Australia will be a totally different challenge as the Women in Yellow have four wins from as many encounters.

Match prediction for India vs Australia CWC 2022 face-off: Meg Lanning-led Aussies have been on a roll. So far, they edged past England before demolishing the likes of Pakistan, New Zealand and West Indies. Both teams have not played at the iconic Eden Park, Auckland, hence, that might test the two camps. Nonetheless, the Aussies are much more balanced, in a red-hot form to adapt and continue their winning run. For India, they need to click as the tournament is progressing towards the business end and the race for the semi-finals spot is heating up.

Given Australia and South Africa are very much likely to end as the top-two ranked sides, India are wary of the challenges with New Zealand, West Indies and England (who can still turn it around despite a solitary win from four games) battling it out for the remaining two slots.

At present, it seems Australia will continue their winning run unless India bring out their A-game.

IND vs AUS prediction: Who will win WWC 2022 match between India and Australia?

An inconsistent India paid the price for a shoddy batting effort but England infused a new life into their title defence with a four-wicket win in a league-stage game of the ICC Women World Cup, here on Wednesday.

Inconsistency returned to haunt Indian batters as they were bundled out for a meagre 134 by England, who chased down the target in 31.2 overs to record their first win in the tournament after a hat-trick of defeats.

India got some runs on the board, thanks to previous game's centurion Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored for the side with a 35-run knock while wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh made 33.

With wickets falling intermittently, England bowled out India in 36.2 overs.
England also made a stuttering start to their chase as they lost both their openers -- Danni Wyatt (1) and Tammy Beaumont (1) -- cheaply with the scoreboard reading four for two in the third over.

Wyatt was first to depart in the second over, courtesy a sensational diving catch by Sneh Rana off medium-pacer Meghna Singh (3/26).

Veteran Jhulan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament, then trapped Beaumont in the second over after India went for the review. It was 250th wicket for the pacer in ODIs.

England skipper Heather Knight (53 not out) and Nat Sciver (45 off 46) then steadied England innings, playing cautiously to reach 34 for 2 in 10 overs.

While Knight played a captain's knock by anchoring the chase, Sciver took the attack to the Indian bowlers, hitting as many as eight boundaries during her entertaining knock, in which she pulled off some pull shots.

With just 135 required for a win, what England needed was a decent partnership after the early blows and Knight and Sciver provided that by sharing 65 runs for the third wicket.

Sciver's innings was cut short by Pooja Vastrakar. It was a soft dismissal and against the run of play as Sciver spooned a length ball to Goswami while looking to work the ball on the on-side.

Amy Jones (10) then stitched a 33-run stand for the next wicket with Knight before the former fell to a stunning backward running catch by India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-on off Rajeshwari Gayakwad's bowling.

By then it was all over for India by then as England needed just 32 more runs.

The Indians picked up two more wickets in the 30th over before England completed the formality.

Meghna dismissed Sophia Dunkley (17) and Katherine Brunt (0) within a span of three balls in identical fashion -- caught behind by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh.

Earlier, in sharp contrast to India's performance against the West Indies in their last match when they rode on centuries from Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur to post 317 for 8, their highest total in the history of the showpiece event.

Charlie Dean (4/23) was the pick of the bowlers for England while Anya Shrubsole also chipped in with two wickets as the Indians failed to build a decent partnership.

Having suffered three defeats from as many matches so far, it is a must-win match for title holders and four-time champions England.

The defeat failed to dislodge India from the top four as the Mithali Raj-led side is occupying the third spot in the eight-team standings with four points from two wins and as many losses.

England, on the other hand, opened their tally and are placed seventh with two points from four matches.

Harmanpreet Kaur creates a new record

Harmanpreet now has most hundreds by an Indian in the history of the Women's World Cup. The 109-run knock against West Indies is her third hundred for India in the Women's World Cup. She has now gone past both Mithali and Mandhana, who have two centuries each to their name in the World Cup.

Harmanpreet also became the first Indian to hit 20 sixes in the Women's World Cup. She is the highest six-getter in the history of the World Cup with 20 maximums to her name. Mandhana is at the second spot with seven sixes to her name in the Women's World Cup.

Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur slammed centuries apiece as Indian batters tormented the West Indies bowling attack in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022 on Saturday. After a disappointing show in their last game against New Zealand, the Indian women's team produced an emphatic performance with the bat against West Indies. After opting to bat first, India got off to a good start as openers Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia (31) added 49 runs for the first wicket. The Women in Blue then lost quick wickets in the middle as the likes of captain Mithali (5) and Deepti Sharma (15) were sent back cheaply with India in a spot of bother. Mandhana and Harmanpreet then combined to post a mammoth stand of 184 runs for the fourth wicket. While Mandhana slammed 123 runs off 119 balls laced with 13 fours and 2 sixes, Harmanpreet scored 109 runs off 107 balls with the help of ten fours and two sixes. The duo took the West Indies bowlers to the cleaners throughout their partnership and helped India post a strong total of 317/8 in 50 overs. Harmanpreet also went on to achieve an elusive milestone with her stunning hundred as she surpassed Mithali and Mandhana in an elite list. Haramanpreet Kaur pips Smriti, Mithali to achieve elusive milestone with stunning ton against West Indies

Records broken by Smriti, Harmanpreet & others in India's emphatic win over West Indies in Women's WC

After a spirited 107-run win in their tournament-opener, Mithali Raj-led India lost their second encounter in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup on Thursday (March 09). Facing home side New Zealand, Indian eves faltered with the bat to lose by 62 runs and now they will have to regroup ahead of their clash versus the Stafanie Taylor-led Windies line-up (who are unbeaten so far after two games).

Coming to India's run so far, they have fared well with the ball, spearheaded by Jhulan Goswami. While India managed to dismiss an average Pakistani batting line-up for a paltry 137. On the other hand, India claimed an early wicket versus the White Ferns, but couldn't get rid of the top and middle-order before staging a mini-comeback towards the end of the innings to restrict the New Zealanders for 260/9. At one stage, it seemed the hosts would've surpassed the 280-run mark.

With the bat, India need to buckle up. In their opening game, they were 114-6 before Sneh Rana-Pooja Vastrakar bailed them out. In the game versus the Kiwis, India were never in the hunt in pursuit of 261 as their timid approach with the bat was heavily criticised and remains a big concern going forward. The likes of Smriti Mandhana, Mithali, Shefali Verman, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, etc. need to up the ante to not add pressure towards the end of the innings.

WWC 2022 match prediction between India vs West Indies: Given that West Indies have been on a roll, by delivering both with bat and ball and holding their nerves in tight situations, India will feel the heat ahead of the face-off. The momentum and form is with West Indies -- who beat hosts New Zealand and defenders England -- and, thus, Mithali & Co. will have to bat smartly to not lose two in two.

NZ vs IND WWC 2022 live streaming: Where and when to watch New Zealand vs India match?

Mithali Raj-led India kicked off their campaign in style in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2022 edition, being held in New Zealand. Facing arch-rivals Pakistan in their tournament-opener, Indian eves stormed past the Bismah Maroof-led side by 107 runs to commence their journey in the showpiece event in an emphatic manner.

In their next game, i.e. match 8, Mithali & Co. will face Sophie Devine-led New Zealand cricket team in a bid to remain unbeaten in the tournament. The mega event has already thrown in a few surprises and has witnessed some close contests and the same is expected between the two big teams on Thursday (March 10). India have faced New Zealand in the run-up to the tournament. While India lost the one-off T20I and also the following five ODIs, 4-1, they managed to win the final and inconsequential 50-over fixture. Thus, India will be confident while facing the home side.

On the other hand, New Zealand have already had a topsy-turvy start to their campaign in the World Cup. While the hosts lost to West Indies by three runs in the tournament-opener, they bounced back and returned to winning ways with a 9-wicket win (DLS method) over Bangladesh. They will also be upbeat while facing Mithali & Co. due to their recent performances against the Women in Blue. However, another loss will dent their confidence and, hence, the home side might feel some pressure.

Match prediction of match 8 between India-NZ: It is difficult to predict a winner at this time. So far, both sides have not played a single game at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The only game played at the venue in the tournament was a high-scoring affair. If the track favours the batters, India's middle and lower order -- along with their strike-rates -- will be crucial. Momentum-wise, India have the edge whereas recent records tilts the equation towards NZ.

India have faced New Zealand in the run-up to the tournament. While India lost the one-off T20I and also the following five ODIs, 4-1, they managed to win the final and inconsequential 50-over fixture. Thus, India will be confident while facing the home side. ALSO READ | Women's ODI Rankings: Mithali Raj slips to fourth, Meg Lanning rises to second spot On the other hand, New Zealand have already had a topsy-turvy start to their campaign in the World Cup.

From Smriti Mandhana to Jhulan Goswami: 5 players who hold key for Mithali Raj's India in ODI World Cup

Half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj helped India avoid a series whitewash by registering a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the fifth and final ODI here on Thursday.

Mandhana (71 from 84 deliveries) and Harmanpreet (63 from 66) helped pace India`s run chase and Mithali (54 not out from 66) provided the finishing touches, as the visitors successfully chased down New Zealand`s handy total of 251/9 with four overs remaining.

It was India`s only victory of the five-match ODI series, with New Zealand claiming a 4-1 series triumph ahead of the ICC Women`s Cricket World Cup next month, according to a report on ICC`s official website.

With skipper Sophie Devine (34) and in-form batter Amelia Kerr (66) scoring with ease early in proceedings, it looked like the Kiwis were on track to set India an even larger target for victory.

But India`s spinners helped put the clamps on the hosts during the middle overs, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/61), Deepti Sharma (2/42) and Sneh Rana (2/40) picking up six wickets between them to ensure the home side could only scramble past 250 in their final over.

Smriti got on top of the New Zealand bowlers early in the reply, putting the loss of fellow opener Shafali Verma (9) behind her to ensure India stayed well inside the required run rate.

When Smriti fell in the 29th over it provided New Zealand a glimmer of hope, but Harmanpreet steadied the ship with an excellent knock that put the victory target within sight.

While Harmanpreet fell to Hannah Rowe in the 43rd over, it was too little too late as Mithali ensured the visitors cruised home to avoid an embarrassing series whitewash.

Brief scores:

New Zealand Women 251/9 in 50 overs (Amelia Kerr 66, Sophie Davine (34); Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/61), Deepti Sharma (2/42), Sneh Rana (2/40) lost to India Women 252/4 off 46 overs (Smriti Mandhana 71, Harmanpreet Kaur (63) and Mithali Raj 54 not out; Hannah Rowe 1/41) by six wickets.

NZ v IND: Smriti, Harman, Mithali's fifties help India avoid series whitewash, win 5th ODI by 6 wickets

Mithali Raj-led Indian team will face New Zealand in the fifth and final ODI on Thursday (February 24). So far, the visitors have been winless in their tour Down Under ahead of the forthcoming ODI World Cup. Thus, Mithali & Co. will be eager to sign off on a high and prevent a series whitewash prior to the mega event.

The Indian women's team have looked good in patches, however, they have failed to keep up the momentum throughout a single game and are starring on the brink of a 5-0 scoreline. In the rain-marred fourth and penultimate ODI, India invited the hosts to bat first in a 20-over aside contest. Chasing 192, India were all-out for 128 to lose by 63 runs.

Thus, the fifth and final ODI will give the Indian eves another chance to revamp and put up a good show before the focus shifts to the World Cup. Meanwhile, the White Ferns will aim to go for the kill and also test some other players who have not appeared in the first four games.

Former captain Shantha Rangaswamy believes Smriti Mandhana is the best contender to lead India once ODI and Test skipper Mithali Raj retires after the Women's World Cup in New Zealand next year.

Harmanpreet Kaur has been the T20 captain since 2016, but her inconsistency as a batter makes her an unlikely replacement for Mithali in the longer forms. Mandhana, on the other hand, has established herself among one of the world's top batters.

Mandhana, who has played four Tests, 62 ODIs, and 84 T20s, was last seen in Australia during the Women's Big Bash. In the cash-rich league, she also got a century against the Melbourne Renegades.

Harmanpreet, who has struggled with form and fitness over the previous year, also performed well in the Big Bash, and it remains to be seen if she can maintain that form at the top level.

Australia vs India: Would want team to take more responsibility, says Harmanpreet Kaur

In a pre-match press conference, the 32-year-old said she has figured out how to set herself up in less time and would have liked to exhibit the outcomes in the series.

"I am someone who likes to train every day, work hard every day but because of Covid and injuries, I didn't get that much time to prepare. This is not an excuse because I am someone who needs a lot of time to prepare on the ground because at the international level you can't just come and get things easily. It's not that easy to face everybody's mindset here and their approach towards the game but after five innings I have understood where and how I have to improve myself and in this series you'll definitely see a new approach from me."

"We didn't even get a single practice game. We were also struggling for open nets. I usually prefer more open nets and practice games than nets. Because in the latter you don't get much idea, you are facing the same bowlers every day and you can't analyze your batting much. These are not excuses but this is the reality which I faced. India women's T20 captain accepts the T20I series against England Women will likewise be important for the groundwork for the 2022 women's World Cup to be played in New Zealand.

Harmanpreet Kaur is content and additionally accepts there has been a lot of progress in their presentation. One such consideration that she especially spoke about was that of all-rounder Sneh Rana.

"Every series is important to us. Whenever we play any series, the main purpose is always building the team towards the World Cup. At this moment, our team is looking very balanced. We were struggling for runs in the last few overs but the addition of Sneh Rana has given us that balance with both bat and ball."

Despite the fact that there is a great deal of ability in the India women's team, Harmanpreet Kaur feels handling is one region where the team needs to improve. Another region that she figures they need to focus on is the power-hitting, particularly in the death overs.

India's powerlessness to post large scores in the ODI series against England obviously demonstrates that they should work more diligently on clearing the limit rope reliably at the back finish of their innings.

"Usually our concern has been fielding and power hitting. We do work out the basic things in fielding with the fielding coach. Power hitting in the last five-six overs is also something we are working on and will need to improve on. This the right time for us to try a few things and after today's net session we will sit and think the best possible XI," she concluded.

We were struggling for runs in the last few overs but the addition of Sneh Rana has given us that balance with both bat and ball." Despite the fact that there is a great deal of ability in the India women's team, Harmanpreet Kaur feels handling is one region where the team needs to improve.

Cricket: Harmanpreet Kaur promises different 'approach' ahead of England series

Harmanpreet Kaur opened up on her association with head coach Ramesh Powar. She asserted her relationship with Ramesh Powar is like how it was last time, as the India Test deputy said she generally takes something back at whatever point they talk about the game.

Ramesh Powar returned as Team India head coach in May, succeeding WV Raman. He gets back to the job he last held in 2018 when India arrived at the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup under his direction.

Harmanpreet addressed the media from England and examined whether her relationship with Ramesh Powar had gone through any change throughout the most recent couple of years.

“It is similar to the last time he was with us. He is someone who is always involved in the game and wants other players to do that as well. He always creates a scenario whenever you are talking to him, you feel like you are in a match. He asks you to put yourself in a scenario and then discusses how to react during that. I always get a lot of information while talking to him. He has played a lot of cricket, including T20 cricket. We are repeating the things we did in 2018.”

India Women and England Women will participate in the one-off Test at Bristol, with the much-anticipated game to start on June 16.

The series is important for a long England visit for India Women. Following the Test match, India Women will take on England Women in three ODIs and three T20Is approaching mid-July.

The Hundred: Smriti Mandhana to play for Southern Brave, Harmanpreet to represent Manchester Originals

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the first women's T20I of the three-match series against South Africa, set to start from March 20 in Lucknow, due to the hip-flexor injury she picked up in the final ODI against the same outfit on Wednesday. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana confirmed the development on Friday ahead of the first T20I.

"She (Harmanpreet) is out of tomorrow's match and the rest of the update on her condition will be given by the medical team," Mandhana, a left-handed opener, said during a virtual pre-match press conference.

India were completely dominated by South Africa in the women's ODI series as the visitors won it 1-4. However, Mandhana said that the players will not keep the ODI series in mind when taking the field for the T20Is.

"We will try to forget the ODIs and focus on the T20 series. Yes, the ODI series was a disappointment but we need to forget that and move ahead. Some new faces have come in the team, so we need to think fresh," Mandhana said.

"We had a discussion on how to go about our preparation, what went wrong in the ODI series and how to go forward. We now need to concentrate on the T20s. We are now looking at the ODI series as a preparation for T20 series."

Mandhana further said that the team is working hard to improve their fielding following a sloppy show in the field during the five-ODI series.

"We have been in the process in the last 3-4 years. Few catches have dropped in the ODIs, but we need to get on with a fresh mind in the T20 series and leave behind the ODI series disappointment," she said. She also pointed out that the spinners, India's biggest strength, need to pull up their socks in the T20 series.

"Spinners are our biggest strength. Definitely, they (spinners) were not bad but inconsistent in their bowling (in the ODI series). But if we keep pitching the ball in the same areas, it will become difficult for batters," Mandhana said.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the first women's T20I of the three-match series against South Africa, set to start from March 20 in Lucknow, due to the hip-flexor injury she picked up in the final ODI against the same outfit on Wednesday.

We now need to concentrate on the T20s. We are now looking at the ODI series as a preparation for T20 series." Mandhana further said that the team is working hard to improve their fielding following a sloppy show in the field during the five-ODI series. "We have been in the process in the last 3-4 years. Few catches have dropped in the ODIs, but we need to get on with a fresh mind in the T20 series and leave behind the ODI series disappointment," she said.
