Juventus star Paul Pogba's elder brother Mathias Pogba has made some shocking allegations against him, accusing him of using witchcraft among others. Mathias' accusations came after Pogba alleged his brother was involved in attempted blackmail of the Juventus footballer earlier this year.

Mathias had taken to social media on Sunday to share a video vowing to expose his younger brother while promising to make 'explosive' revelations against him. Pogba's brother, who is a professional footballer himself, also mentioned French striker Kylian Mbappe in his video and said he has some information to share about him as well.

Soon after his video went viral on social media, Pogba's camp released a statement hinting that Mathias was part of a syndicate trying to extort money from him. After Pogba's accusations, Mathias took to social media once again on Sunday to respond to the allegations against him and opened a can of worms against his brother.

Mathias claimed Pogba used a witch doctor to cast a spell on his France teammate Mbappe. He also called Pogba a 'traitor' and 'hypocrite' while claiming that he almost died because of the 2018 World Cup winner.

“Hahahaha, what I expected to happen has happened: my little brother is finally starting to show his true face. Since it was he who started talking, lying to the police and who brought out the information, you can’t blame me." Mathias said on Twitter, as per Get French Football News.

"Paul, you really wanted to shut me up completely to lie and send me to prison, I suspected it. Now it’s true, my version of the facts actually happened and unlike you, I have enough to prove my words and your lies.

"I'll tell you again: brother, manipulating people is not good! It’s not about money: You implicated me in spite of myself, I almost died because of you, you left me in a hole and you want to play the innocent one. When everything is said people will see that there is no bigger coward, bigger traitor and bigger hypocrite than you on this earth.

"Kylian, now do you understand? I have no negative feelings toward you, my words are for your good, everything is true and proven, and the witch doctor is known! Sorry about this brother, a so-called Muslim deep in witchcraft, it’s never good to have a hypocrite and a traitor near you," he went on.

Paul Pogba denies allegations, accuses brother of extortion

As per Get French Football News, Pogba had filed a police complaint earlier this year after he was intimidated by two hooded men carrying assault rifles in an apartment in Paris in March this year. The two men demanded 13 million euros from the Juventus star, who was at his former club Manchester United at the time.

Pogba reportedly told the authorities that he believed the men behind the blackmail attempt were some of his childhood friends and his elder brother Mathias. The men told him that they were entitled to the money for 'protecting him' over the years.

"The recent declarations of Mathias Pogba on social media are unfortunately not a surprise. They are coming after threats and attempts of extortion by an organised gang against Paul Pogba," Pogba said in a statement released by his team after Mathias' video went viral on Sunday.

"This has been referred to the appropriate authorities both in Italy and in France a month ago," he added.

Pogba reportedly also told the authorities during questioning that the blackmailers had turned up at Juventus' training ground in Turin, Italy last month following which he decided to report the matter to the club's legal team and the police. Pogba has denied the allegations of using 'witchcraft', which he alleged was a fake story used by the blackmailers to extort money from him.

Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the victim of a violent armed robbery at his home in the early hours of Monday, the Spanish club said.

"He is ok now, scared but ok," a Barcelona source told AFP, confirming press reports.

At least four men broke into his home in Castelldefels near Barcelona through the garden and threatened him and his wife with guns and iron bars, and hit him, daily El Pais reported. The thieves fled by car after forcing the Gabon international to open a safe and making off with jewels that were inside, the newspaper reported.

A spokeswoman for Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, confirmed they were investigating a violent robbery in Castelldefels but refused to identify the victim, citing privacy rules.

"The investigation remains open and we are gathering information," she told AFP.

The incident comes as Aubameyang is linked with a return to the Premier League after interest from Chelsea. He joined Barcelona in February from Arsenal after reportedly having fallen out with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta due to disciplinary breaches.

Several high-profile footballers in Spain have been subject to robberies though most of these break-ins occur while the stars are playing. In June police arrested six people in connection with the three-million-euro burglary at the house belonging to former Brazil forward Ronaldo.

Paris Saint-Germain player Marco Verratti was staying at Ronaldo's house in Ibiza but was not home when the burglars struck, taking jewellery and money. And earlier this month police recovered Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski's watch, which was stolen as the player signed autographs before a training session.

Veteran star strikers Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema both hit doubles on Sunday in contrasting victories for Barcelona and La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
Lewandowski scored twice for the second game in a row as Jules Kounde made his debut as Barcelona cruised past Valladolid 4-0. In the late game on Sunday, Real Madrid struggled for 88 minutes at Espanyol. With the scores tied and time running out, Benzema put Real ahead before sealing a 3-1 victory after 10 eventful added minutes.

Real saved their perfect start to the season and climbed back to the top of the table on nine points after three games, ahead of Real Betis on goal difference.
Barcelona rose to third, two points further back. "To have Lewandowski in your team is a blessing," said Barca coach Xavi Hernandez. In the late game, Vinicius Junior ran on to a sharp diagonal pass in the 12th minute to slide the ball into the far corner and give Real the lead.

Espanyol fought back. Joselu levelled after 43 minutes. He burst through and when Thibaut Courtois saved his first thump at goal and the ball bounced off Eder Militao, the Espanyol striker beat both Real players to the ball and scuffed it in.

Both teams had chances in the second half before Benzema, as so often in the last year, decided the game. After a quiet game, he found space at the far post with two minutes left, met Rodrygo's cross and volleyed home from cose range. Deep into frantic added time, Espanyol goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte, charged out of his box to stop a Real attack received a red card for a foul on Dani Ceballos. Benzema fired home the free kick.

"We were quite slow," said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti. "We had difficulty managing the intensity of the match." Villarreal dropped their first points of the season in a 0-0 draw at Getafe as Unai Emery's side saw the award of a penalty overturned following a VAR review in the dying stages.

Liverpool earned their first win of the season in stunning fashion after equalling the record for the biggest ever Premier League victory with a 9-0 thrashing of promoted Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.

Two goals inside the opening six minutes from Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliot put the hosts into a commanding position from the off.

A stunning strike from England full-back Trent Alexander Arnold which arrowed into the top corner gave Liverpool a three-goal lead in the 28th minute before Roberto Firmino got in on the act with a fourth three minutes later.

Not done there, Liverpool had a fifth before the interval, with Virgil van Dijk heading home from a corner -- the first time the Reds had netted five in the first half of a league game since 1958.

Chris Mepham's own goal had the visitors staring at the prospect of an embarrassing drubbing, with such worries heightening after a close-range finish from Firmino and substitute Fabio Carvalho's volley.

After Diaz headed in the ninth, Liverpool had five minutes to become the first side to score 10 goals in a Premier League match. But despite some late scares, Bournemouth did just enough to avoid suffering that ignominy.

Along with Manchester United twice and Leicester City, four teams have now scored nine in a Premier League match, while Liverpool equalled their own league win record with Saturday's thrashing.

"We had to prove a point to ourselves," Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said as he celebrated the biggest ever competitive win of his managerial career.

"We were not happy with how we played so far this season, but we had good moments in those games.

"We just had to give the game a proper direction and that's why I loved the start today. Two wonderful goals, everything about them.

"We kept going, scoring different goals but with the same purpose to keep up the pressure. In the end it was the perfect football afternoon."

The last time Liverpool failed to win any of their opening four games of a season was back in 2012-13, a feat never likely to be repeated once Diaz's third-minute header on the end of Mohamed Salah's cross had found the net.

It was the first time in eight league games that Liverpool scored first, and before long the hosts added a second in the Merseyside sunshine as young Elliot rifled home from the edge of the penalty area.

A third was quickly forthcoming, and worth the wait for an expectant Anfield, with Alexander-Arnold firing an unstoppable strike into the net, while there was more than an element of fortune about Liverpool's fourth finished off by Firmino.

In finding the net, the Brazilian became the first Liverpool player to be involved in four goals - three assists and a goal - in the Premier League.

Van Dijk's header meant it was going to be a long second half for the visitors, with the feeling of dread even more prevalent after Mepham's own goal just after the break made it six.

A poor parry from Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers was then punished by Firmino, before Carvalho and Diaz again had supporters calling for 10, with Bournemouth looking decidedly panicked, but it was not to be.

Bournemouth have now conceded more goals (16) in their first four games of a Premier League season than any other side in the competition's history.

"It was a humbling experience what has happened today," Bournemouth coach Scott Parker said.

"We need to make a decision (in the transfer market) and give these players a break. They are struggling for air."

Liverpool equal Premier League record after demolishing Bournemouth with 9 goals

Manchester City's Erling Haaland struck a second-half hat-trick as the Premier League champions came back from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Norwegian, who averaged almost a goal per game in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund before his move to City in June, has now scored six times in his opening four league matches for Pep Guardiola's side.

The win moves City to the top of the table, level on 10 points with Brighton & Hove Albion. Palace are 13th with four points from their opening four games.

Haaland was given a standing ovation when he was substituted six minutes from the end but at halftime City were staring at a possible repeat of their 2-0 home loss to Palace last season.

An own goal from John Stones in the fourth minute put Patrick Vieira's south London side ahead and then the visitors doubled their lead when an unmarked Joachim Andersen powered in a header from an Eberechi Eze corner in the 21st minute.

City struggled to find their fluency but the almost inevitable comeback started in the 53rd when Bernardo Silva cut in from the right and his low shot took a slight deflection and beat goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Guardiola then made a double substitution and moved Phil Foden to left back and within a minute he had delivered a pinpoint cross which Haaland met with a fine glancing header.

The striker then turned the ball in from close range after a clever move inspired by Silva and saved the best for last -- showing Ilkay Gundogan the pass he wanted to run onto and then holding off Joel Ward as he fired into the bottom corner.

"It was a proud moment for me and my family and I'm so happy. Amazing feeling to score a hat-trick," said Haaland.

"It's about trying to continue what we are doing. It was about small adjustments and we did that and got results. We had to listen to the manager," said the Norwegian.

Haaland said it was important that City did not panic after Palace's early goals.

"It's a mentality that we trust each other and we know the chances will come. It's about keeping going. In the end we scored four goals and that's a really good thing.

"It's a warning that we have to become better, training hard and develop. When we play at home we shouldn't concede early goals. It's about working harder," he said.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo was shackled to the sidelines for the second consecutive time in Manchester United's most recent clash against Southampton, he did not let his frustrations become apparent as he was seen in a jovial mood ahead of the match.

The former Real Madrid ace shared a light-hearted moment with Rio Ferdinand as he was filmed pranking his former teammate while warming up for the match, which subsequently ended as 1-0 in United's favour.

Ferdinand was busy previewing the match with pundits Paul Scholes and Peter Crouch and presented Lynsey Hipgrave when he was pranked by Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d'Or was caught by the camera slyly ducking away after having sprayed Ferdinan's suede shoes with water from his water bottle, leaving everyone in splits.

Ferdinand subsequently took to Twitter to share footage of their brief interaction, hilariously suggesting that his suede shoes had been ruined.

"Not the suede bro," wrote Ferdinand in his post on Twitter.

Ferdinand subsequently took to Twitter to share footage of their brief interaction, hilariously suggesting that his suede shoes had been ruined. FIFA has seemingly lifted the ban that it had imposed on the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The ban was levelled on AIFF, citing undue third-party influence after the Supreme Court of the country moved to introduce a committee to oversee the functioning of the AIFF.

The ban forced Indian-origin clubs to pull out of continental tournaments that fall under the umbrella of FIFA. This exacted a heavy toll on clubs like Sree Gokulam Kerala FC and ATK Mohun Bagan, who were slated to compete in the AFC Women's Club Championship and AFC Cup 2022 (Inter-Zone semifinals), respectively.

Most notably, however, the ban placed on the AIFF made it impossible for the country to host the upcoming Under-17 Women's World Cup. However, all these embargoes have since been repealed as FIFA moved to lift the ban, they conveyed the same to AIFF in a letter, which was subsequently shared by AIFF on social media shortly thereafter.

"The Bureau of the Council decided on 25 August 2022 to lift the suspension of the AIFF with immediate effect. As a consequence, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 can be held in India as planned.

"Finally, as foreseen in the decision of the Bureau of 14 August 2022, a further communication to the AIFF will follow shortly with respect to the next steps to be taken towards holding elections. Kindly take note that FIFA and the AFC will continue to monitor the situation and will support the AIFF in organising the elections in a timely manner," read the letter that FIFA sent to AIFF.

Europa League draw: Arsenal and Manchester United rejoice as they seemingly bag relatively easy clashes

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has been named the 2021-22 UEFA Men`s Player of the Year, beating team-mate Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne to the gong. The France international solidified his status as the frontrunner for this year`s Ballon d`Or with victory over the pair, with the award bestowed following the Champions League group-stage draw in Istanbul on Thursday, reports DPA. Benzema, top scorer in both the Champions League and La Liga last term as he guided Madrid to a double, netted 44 goals in 46 games across all competitions.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti also was feted at the ceremony, beating Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Liverpool`s Jurgen Klopp to be awarded the UEFA Men`s Coach of the Year Award. But the headline prize was that handed out to Benzema, who will now be targeting the most notable individual prize in football. The 34-year-old was named among the 30 Ballon d`Or nominees earlier this month, with the long-time Madrid star seemingly the outstanding favourite.

Cristiano Ronaldo made heads turn when he gatecrashed Sky Sports' pre-match show ahead of Manchester United's home encounter versus Liverpool in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022/23 season on Monday (August 22), at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who was not named in the starting XI for the Red Devils, came over to the touchline to interact with Sky Sports' star-studded team. While the Portuguese captain shook hands with former United skipper Gary Neville, he completely blanked ex-Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher. It is to be noted that the former English player has been vocal in criticising Ronaldo over his recent actions at Man United. Thus, the superstar striker brutually ignored him and left after having a few words with Roy Keane. Carragher, on the other hand, was completely taken aback by Ronaldo's behaviour.

Thus, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has lashed out at the 37-year-old Ronaldo's actions. “Keane and Gary(Neville) they have been killing him on Sky Sports as well so I’m sure is not because of that. Someone that played football for that long and made so many appearances for Liverpool at least you say hi out of respect. Another thing why I will never like Cristiano Ronaldo and when football finish let’s see who he will have around being like this,” the former Liverpool wrote on Twitter.

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo's recent cameo on Sky Sports' pitch-side interaction featuring the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher sent fans into a frenzy after they caught wind of their conversation ahead of United's match against Liverpool.

In what was a rather brief exchange of words at the commentary huddle on the outfield, Ronaldo and Keane discussed how he was left out of the starting lineup for the match. In a most curious moment, Keane said, "Benched?" when approached by Ronaldo, who responded by saying, "What do you want me to do?".

Keane beamed, "Get in the team." To which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner retorted by saying, "I know." He subsequently walked away from the huddle to resume his warm-up with the rest of his team.

It is interesting to note that shortly before his exchange with Keane, Ronaldo also blanked Jamie Carragher as the former Liverpool star tried to interact with the Portuguese icon. Ronaldo refused to shake hands with Carragher, preferring to greet and hug Neville before going around him to interact with Keane. The snub could possibly be attributed to the fact that Carragher has been vocally critical of Ronaldo in recent times.

Shortly after their pre-game interaction, the Erik ten Haag-led Manchester United went on to record a crucial 2-1 win against Jurgen Klopp's band of speedsters, bouncing back from two opening losses on the trot. Manchester United signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid earlier this week to bolster their squad under new manager Erik Ten Hag. One of the best defensive midfielders in the world, Casemiro's arrival has created significant buzz among United fans after their disastrous start to the season.

Casemiro was presented as a United player on Monday (August 22) ahead of the club's clash against Liverpool. The Brazilian brought some luck with him as Ten Hag's men went on to beat Liverpool 2-1 to bag their first three points of the season after losing their first two matches in a row.

While the Brazilian's arrival in Manchester has brought optimism to the United faithful, his departure has upset millions of Real Madrid fans around the globe. Casemiro spent almost a decade at Real Madrid making a total of 336 appearances across competitions and played an instrumental role in helping the club win as many as five Champions League titles.

According to Marca, Real Madrid star Federico Valverde's girlfriend Mina Bonino was left disappointed after hearing the news of Casemiro's transfer to United and pleaded with the Brazilian to not leave the Spanish club. Bonino sent an expletive text in Spanish to Casemiro on Whatsapp which read — "Don't leave, you sh** bas***d". She shared the screenshot of her text to Casemiro on Twitter.

I want to win the Premier League with Manchester United: Casemiro

Casmeiro won everything there was to be at Real Madrid and said he is looking forward to a new challenge at Manchester United. Bidding an emotional farewell to his former club, the Brazilian admitted he felt like an 18-year-old kid on joining United and said he wants to win the league with the Red Devils.

It’s a club with great history, I will have to work hard to make a name for myself because there, I have won nothing yet. At Manchester United, first of all, what I want is to transmit the way I feel about the club, my respect," said Casemiro during his Real Madrid farewell.

“Everything I did here [at Real] I want to do there, too. I want to show my fighting spirit, capacity to work hard and professional attitude. I want to win the league. I am going through one of the best moments of my career. I feel I’m really fit, mentally I feel great, and I want to continue to enjoy. It’s a great moment to take this decision," he added.

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy is said to have asked a police officer “How many stories like this do you have?” when he was arrested for rape. Mendy is currently accused of a total of eight counts of rape along with allegations of attempted rape and sexual assault by different women.

The Manchester City defender's career has gone downhill ever since he was arrested by the police from his Chesire mansion in November 2020 after being accused of raping a woman thrice in his 'locked' bedroom during a party. The incident happened in October 2022, however, the woman reported it to police a few weeks later in November the same year.

Mendy is currently facing a trial on a total of eight counts of rape and has denied all the charges. During a court hearing, police officer Luke Browczuk, who went to arrest the 28-year-old Manchester City star after allegations of rape were levelled against him, revealed he cautioned the French footballer before Mendy asked how many stories he had.

“I understand what you are doing, your job and stuff. How many stories like this do you have?" - Mendy told the officer. The officer's statement was read out in the Chester Crown Court by prosecutor Timothy Cray.

The woman, who alleged Mendy raped her thrice in his locked bedroom, presented evidence to the judges in the court last week. The woman claimed she was forced to have sex with the Man City footballer despite repeatedly telling him she didn't want to.

“Well the door’s locked anyway," Mendy allegedly told her while asking her to strip down. The woman further claimed that Mendy boasted about having sex with '10,000' women and called it a 'privilege'.

Erik ten Hag secured his first win as Manchester United manager as goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday. United had started the weekend bottom of the Premier League, but moved above Liverpool on a massive night for their new Dutch manager.

Liverpool's expected title challenge is fading fast with Jurgen Klopp's men yet to win three games into the new season. United fans began the evening by marching on Old Trafford in protest at the decade of decline overseen by the club's owners, the Glazer family.

A social media movement encouraging supporters to boycott the game in the wake of an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Brentford last weekend failed to materialise. But even amid the jubilation of a first league win over Liverpool since 2018, chants of "we want Glazers out" persisted throughout the 90 minutes.

Ten Hag responded to the concession of four goals inside 35 minutes at Brentford by dropping Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire among four changes.

After becoming the first United manager in more than a century to lose his first two games, the former Ajax manager got the response he desired in an explosive opening half hour that rocked Liverpool back on their heels.

"We can talk about tactics but it is all about attitude," said Ten Hag.

Anthony Elanga should have opened the scoring when he curled off the base of the post after two passes from Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes carved Liverpool wide open. Defensive disorganisation has been a repeated failing of Liverpool's winless start to the season and they failed to learn their lesson for the opening goal on 16 minutes.
A neat one-two between Elanga and Christian Eriksen opened up the Liverpool defence once more and when the ball was cut back to Sancho, he left James Milner on the floor before coolly slotting home.

Milner bounced back up to confront Virgil Van Dijk for his role in the goal as the Dutch defender sat off Sancho.

"The start of the game was exactly what everyone expected, what United fans expected, they were after us," said Klopp.

"They started slightly more aggressive than us. After the goal, they could more play the game they wanted."

Liverpool's reluctance to refresh Klopp's midfield options will face more scrutiny in the final days of the transfer window.

With Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita out injured, the 36-year-old Milner showed his age and Klopp had precious few options to turn to on the bench with new 75 million euro (£64 million, $77 million) striker Darwin Nunez serving the first of a three-match ban for being sent off on his home debut.

Liverpool's lack of energy in midfield was exposed for United's second goal as Jordan Henderson's poor touch presented possession to Anthony Martial and his perfect through ball set Rashford free to score his first goal since January.

Restoring Rashford's confidence is one of the many tasks that still lie ahead for Ten Hag. But the England attacker looked more like his old self and only a fine save from Alisson low to his left denied Rashford his second and United's third.

"For me it is about my mentality," said Rashford. "When I am happy and feel happy I will play well, score goals and help the team."

United goalkeeper David de Gea's error opened the floodgates at Brentford but the Spaniard also played his part in a night of redemption with a point-blank save from Luis Diaz.

Mohamed Salah's header set up a grandstand finish 10 minutes from time, but United summoned a steel rarely seen in recent seasons to see out the closing stages and secure a much-needed boost for their new boss.

Premier League: Sancho, Rashford score as Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 to give Ten Hag lift off

Cristiano Ronaldo isn't having the best of time of late. While reports have been floating around that the superstar striker isn't very keen to continue at Manchester United, he currently has no other option but to stay put while his agent Jorge Mendes is continuously searching for a new club. Amid all this, the 37-year-old Portuguese star is having a tough time at the Erik Ten Hag-led Man United camp in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022/23 season.

Ronaldo has so far not been named in the starting XI in any of the three games for Man United in EPL 2022/23. He has only made brief appearances in all three encounters -- versus Brighton, Brentford, and Liverpool respectively. While United finally got off the mark in the new season -- following disastrous defeats in their opening two clashes -- with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on August 23, Ronaldo once again appeared in the second half (in the 86th minute) and failed to create any impact. No one knows what the future holds for Ronaldo at Man United, however, many feel he isn't fitting in Erik Ten Hag's scheme of things.

When asked about the same, while speaking to the press after United's stunning 2-1 win over Liverpool, the Dutchman made an interesting reply. "I think he can. In his whole career, he, under several managers, he did in several styles and systems," Ten Hag said.

The Dutch tactician further asserted on big names such as Ronaldo, captain Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Fred starting on the bench versus Liverpool. In this regard, he said, "He always performed, so, why he can't do this? For me, his age is not an issue. If you are young, you are good enough, and when you are old and you still deliver the performance, you are also good enough. We have a squad and then we have a way of play, a style, but also, a game-plan, and you look what is the best approach to the game, and that is what we did today. We do it every game, so, today we picked those players but can be Saturday (at Southampton), and it can be different."

"We need a squad, because we have many games to cover, and so, if we make a team out of the squad and we stick together as a squad then we can achieve a lot. I'm convinced about that."

After their first-ever win over Liverpool since 2018, Man United will now lock horns with Southampton on Saturday (August 27), which will be an away clash.

Over there I didn’t win nothing, so I have everything still in front of me. It was the hardest decision of my life but I’m excited to what’s ahead of me."

Casemiro also answered the burning question with regard to Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain's future at Man United remains a mystery. While the superstar striker is reportedly desperate to part ways with the Old Trafford club, he is currently stuck there as his agent continues to find a suitable club for him.

The Brazilian, thus, sent a message to Ronaldo over his wish to leave Man United and said, "I haven’t spoken with Cristiano Ronaldo yet, but I’m excited to play with him again. I’m so keen to get started, with the biggest club in England. If it was up to me, I’d play for them already tonight against Liverpool. But, I know I haven’t won anything there yet."

With this, it is certainly the end of a magnificent run for Casemiro in Real Madrid camp, whose tenure ends with five UEFA Champions Leagues, three FIFA Club World Cups and three La Liga titles with the premier club. As a new and exciting journey awaits him in the Erik Ten Hag-led Manchester United camp, the 30-year-old Brazilian Casemiro bid an emotional farewell to his club. Speaking to the media prior to his move to the Red Devils camp, who is struggling in the ongoing 2022/23 EPL season, as quoted by Reuters, the Brazilian mentioned that the greatest honour for him was to work for Los Blancos every day. "When I got here, my wife and I knew nobody. We were alone and we built our life story here in this city together. I arrived at the reserve team and I had to fight my way to the first team. I learned the values of this club, while working at their academy, to be the purest part of football. I have won a lot here but I've always felt that the greatest honour was to come here to work everyday," Casemiro stated as broke down during his farewell speech. Netherlands are one of the most successful teams in world football and have a rich history in the FIFA World Cups having made ten appearances in the premier competition. Widely recognised as one of the best national teams of all time, Netherlands have played three World Cup finals but are yet to clinch their maiden title.

Netherland made their last final appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 2010 before securing a third-place finish at the showpiece event in 2014. However, the team struggled in its transitional phase from 2014 onwards and eventually ended up missing out on a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2018.

After failing to qualify for the Euros in 2016, Netherlands' poor run continued during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers where they finished third behind France and Sweden in Group A and failed to make the cut for the tournament in what was a huge disappointment for the Oranje.

Dutch legend and a World Cup hero for his country, Johan Neeskens, who played two World Cup finals for Netherlands in 1974 and 1978 opened up about the country's struggles in an exclusive interaction with WION. Neeskens put it down to the team losing a host of senior players following their retirements and the younger players being introduced steadily.

Neeskens, who holds the record for scoring the fastest goal in a World Cup final, believes Netherlands are not the only major football nation to have undergone a transition and that many teams face similar situations. However, he believes the country now has a great team ready to challenge for titles again with some brilliant young players.

"Of course, there is always a situation that you don't like. Thet you don't want to see. But I think that is not only the case with Holland, I think there were more countries over the past who were really successful and then comes a time when the players age and they are not there anymore," Neeskens said when asked about Netherlands' recent struggles.

"But maybe in one time 5-6 of those players (are not there) and that makes a huge difference. Then younger players have to come in but they don't have the same experience and the same level as the players who left. And that needs time, so give younger players the time to get this experience. And maybe they were also not playing in the biggest teams in the biggest leagues so you cannot expect them that they are standing right away.

Over 6-7 years, these players had the quality and then all of a sudden you have to build a new team with 5-6 younger players. Don't expect that they are standing and are responsible on the field. That needs time. This period between 2016-2020 that was the case with Holland. Now you have fantastic young players who are already playing on the higher level so I think now things have changed. But you don't see that only with Holland but a lot of other teams," he explained.

After failing to qualify in 2018, Netherlands made no mistakes as they dominated World Cup 2022 qualifiers and secured their return to the tournament by topping their qualification group on the final day with a 2-0 win over Norway. Netherlands have been placed in Group A alongside Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

With some of the top talents like Virgil Van Dijk, Frenkie De Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, and Donny Van de Beek among others in their ranks, Netherlands remain favourites to top their group. However, Neeskens has warned topping the group won't mean they can reach the final comfortably.

"That's statistics but if you say I am on a roll, and you win three in a row and everybody is expecting this team to go straight to the final. Then no because you also have other opponents who analyse you. Every time you play, you have to be 100 per cent as a team, as an individual to reach these goals. But of course, you have opponents also," said the former Netherlands star.

Rich clubs getting bigger and bigger not good for football: Neeskens

Neeskens also spoke about the shift of power in European football and how the Dutch league - Eredivisie has been undermined by the likes of Premier League and La Liga when it comes to financial strength. While top English clubs and a handful in Spain and Italy have been dominant in the transfer market, thanks to their rich influential owners, even the best clubs in the Dutch league have struggled to keep a hold of good players.

Ajax, who are the most decorated Dutch club having won the European title five times, are currently seen as a 'selling club' among the European elites and find it difficult to keep hold of their best players despite enjoying success on the pitch.

Neeskens believes not just Ajax, but a lot of other Dutch clubs too struggle to keep hold of their top players as they eventually have to bow down to the financial might of the big clubs from England, Spain and Italy, who can offer player lucrative salaries and attract them comfortably. Neeskens believes richer clubs getting bigger is not a good sign for football.

"There is not only Ajax but a lot of teams. If you see what they pay in salary to these players in this country, maybe Italy, Spain and England but the rest cannot afford it. If you have a good team like Ajax, and you have a couple of English teams who offer a player a salary 4-5 times or sometimes even ten times higher than you are then you cannot hold the players," said the two-time World Cup finalist.

"So you are more of an institution that brings talented players and in the future, when they have played 1-2 years in the team they will say bye because clubs with a lot of money are going to buy them. So only the rich clubs can go on and get bigger and bigger and that is not good for football," he added.

Kylian Mbappe latched on to a magical assist from Lionel Messi to score the fastest goal in Ligue 1 history. The PSG duo was in sublime form as they combined well to run riot against Lille in the Ligue 1 clash between the two teams. It took Mbappe just 8 seconds after kick-off to find the back of the net and equal the record for the fastest goal in Ligue 1.

After the kick-off whistle, Neymar laid one for midfielder Leandro Paredes, who passed the ball back to him before the Brazilian found Messi with his second pass. Messi produced a stunning defence-splitting assist to find Mbappe up front and the French striker made no mistake as he slotted it home inside just eight seconds.

It was a brilliant finish from Mbappe, who was ready on the edge of the box and found himself in a one-on-one situation with Lille goalkeeper Leo Jardim. The young striker scooped the ball over Jardim's head to give PSG the lead in the game and equal former French footballer Michel Rio's record, who had also scored in 8 seconds for Caen against Cannes in 1992.

FIFA's ban on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) can be lifted soon after the Supreme Court of India on Monday (August 22) dissolved the three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) to hand back the charge to the current administration of the board led by acting general secretary Sunando Dhar.

FIFA had imposed a ban on AIFF due to third-party interference last week and said it won't lift the ban until the board's administration is once again completely in charge of the national football body and the CoA is repealed. FIFA's key demand has now been met by the AIFF after CoA's dismissal by the Supreme Court.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the Supreme Court of India bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud passed an oral order on Monday demanding the CoA to hand over the baton back to the AIFF administration. “The day-to-day management of AIFF shall be looked after by the AIFF administration led by the acting secretary general exclusively," the SC bench said.

"As a consequence, the CoA will cease to be in charge," the bench added confirming CoA's ouster from AIFF. The SC had appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators to run the daily affairs at AIFF after dismissing former president Praful Patel, who illegally continued to hold his position despite completing three four-years terms.

However, FIFA has a strict stance against third-party interference in the running of a national football federation. The world governing body issued a warning to the AIFF after CoA's appointment before imposing a ban last week. However, the Supreme Court's latest order can see FIFA revoke its ban on Indian football.

FIFA had said it will lift the ban on AIFF only after the ‘repeal of the CoA mandate in full’ and when the board's administration is fully in charge of its day-to-day affairs. FIFA's ban has already had a catastrophic impact on Indian clubs as Gokulam Kerala's women's team was last week ruled out of the AFC Club Championship due to the ban.
