Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry recently offered fans his personal take on who is the better forward between Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Henry chose to back his compatriot and PSG's marquee attacker, Mbappe, over the rising Manchester City talent, Haaland.

Henry argued that while both Haaland and Mbappe are phenomenal in front of goal, it is the Frenchman's ability to build plays and create goal-scoring chances that sets him apart from the Norweigan forward.

He asserted that Mbappe is the more complete forward between the two, owing to his tendency to perform both aspects of attacking efficiently. Henry further admitted that Mbappe, as an attacker, is much more versatile, considering how he can play on either flank, while Haaland can only play down the middle.

"He is a magnificent player and with him they can win the Champions League last year against Real Madrid. If it was him at the end of those chances that they missed, they will have been focused on scoring one or two. For now, Mbappe is still my vote," said Henry while in conversation with CBS Sports.

Both Mbappe and Haaland have managed to thoroughly entertain and impress fans with their jaw-dropping performances on the pitch so far in the 2022-23 season.

The fresh-faced Manchester City star has already managed to rack up a whopping ten Premier League goals to his name across six games, in addition to netting two hat-tricks in as many games. Mbappe, on the other hand, has managed to find the back of the net seven times in five Ligue 1 fixtures so far.

Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland? Thierry Henry settles long-standing best forward debate

Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel as the manager of the club on Wednesday following their shock 1-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. It was an abysmal performance from Chelsea, who have not had the best of starts to the season and are currently sitting at the sixth spot on the Premier League table with three wins in six matches so far.

Tuchel reportedly was left shocked after he was told about his sacking on a brutal phone call with Chelsea owners on Wednesday. The German manager pleaded not to be sacked and wanted a second chance to improve the results at the club but was not spared by the club's hierarchy, who felt it was time for him to leave.

As per a report in The Sun, Tuchel turned up at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Wednesday to give the players a dressing down following their poor show in the game against Zagreb last night. However, he was in for a surprise as the German was greeted by none and was asked to attend a conference call with the club hierarchy.

As per the report, the call lasted ten minutes, during which Tuchel was informed his services were no more required at the club. The German manager pleaded no to being sacked and asked for a second chance to spark a turnaround at the club. However, the decision to sack him had already been made and there was no going back for the Chelsea owners.

Tuchel was left 'totally shocked' by the decision as he collected his belongings and bid his final goodbyes to the staff at the training complex before leaving. Chelsea then went on to announce the club have parted ways with the manager, who led them to a memorable Champions League triumph in 2020-21.

As per the latest reports, Chelsea have already drawn a shortlist of managers they are targeting to replace Tuchel as the new boos at the London club. Brighton's Graham Potter is the leading contender having impressed many with his tactical genius over the last couple of years.

However, Potter is not the only name on Chelsea's shortlist as they have also been linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers among others to take over as the new boss at Stamford Bridge.

French green party propose a 'PSG Bill' to limit the use of private planes: Report

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno recently offered fans some insight into the controversial circumstances under which his move to Fulham came about. He strongly asserted that athletic prowess, talent and performance were not the criteria under which goalkeepers were judged at the Emirates Stadium.

Leno declared that there was a lot of politics that went down behind closed doors, which eventually forced him to call time on his professional career with Arsenal and seek employment elsewhere, leading him to Marco Silva's doorstep.

The move to the newly promoted side marked the end of a four-year-long relationship with Arsenal, in a deal that was worth around £8m. The first three years of his tenure with Arsenal saw him enjoy a tremendous amount of play, which was drastically reduced after Aaron Ramsdale was brought in.

In fact, he merely made eight appearances across all competitions, forcing him to take drastic measures and move to a club where he would receive more first-team experience. He asserted that the decision to pick Ramsdale over him was influenced tremendously by the politics that goes on in a club.

"When I realised that it wasn't about performance or quality, I knew I had to go. During the preparation, I saw that it's not about performance, it's just about politics. It was clear to me: I have to get out of here,” said Ramsdale while in conversation with Sport BILD.

Leno, undoubtedly feeling slighted by the way Arsenal treated him, asserted that he was extremely excited at the prospect of playing at a club like Fulham."It feels amazing to finally be here.

"I can’t wait to join the team, to train and play with the team. I’m relieved that everything is done. I’m just happy to be here. It took a little bit of time but in the end we made it, and that’s the most important thing."

Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs will face a re-trial on domestic violence charges, a UK judge ruled on Wednesday, after a jury last month failed to reach a verdict. Judge Hilary Manley at Manchester Crown Court set a new trial date of July 31, 2023, after jurors were deadlocked following the initial four-week hearing. Ex-Wales international Giggs, 48, denied controlling and coercive behaviour against his former girlfriend Kate Greville as well as assaulting her and her younger sister.

Prosecutor Peter Wright told court Wednesday that "we do seek a re-trial in respect of Mr Giggs. "The matter has been considered at a senior level within the Crown Prosecution Service and also the willingness of the complainant to give evidence. "They indicate a preparedness so to do."

Giggs will remain on bail until next year's trial. Manley dismissed the jury of seven women and four men in the original trial, which had been given the option of delivering a majority verdict after she determined there was no "realistic prospect" of a decision following almost 23 hours of consideration.

If eventually found guilty, the three counts could lead to a five-year jail term. Prosecutors alleged that the ex-star headbutted Greville in the face as she tried to end their relationship, and had subjected her to a "litany of abuse, both physical and psychological".

Chelsea sack manager Thomas Tuchel in the immediate aftermath of Champions League loss against Dinamo Zagreb

Kylian Mbappe played chief tormentor as Paris St Germain started their Champions League campaign by beating Juventus 2-1 at home on Tuesday, their first victory against the Italian side.

Mbappe opened the scoring with a stunning goal and added a second in the opening half before substitute Weston McKennie reduced the arrears after the break as the French champions' level went down a notch.

Juve had chances to equalise but keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made several good saves to make up for a blunder for the visitors' goal, ensuring PSG beat the Italian side for the first time in nine meetings, having lost the last six.

Christophe Galtier's team are level on three points in Group H with Benfica, who beat Maccabi Haifa 2-0.

"We had a great first half, with big moments. We scored two beautiful goals and played as a compact team," said Galtier, leaving his Juve counterpart Massimiliano Allegri with regrets.

"We were too timid in the first half and it's not easy to recover from such a start against such a top team," the Italian said.

The heavy smoke from the pre-game flares and firecrackers was still in the air when PSG took the lead in stunning fashion, as Mbappe volleyed home from Neymar's brilliant flick over the Juve defence after five minutes.

Vitinha and Marco Verratti bossed the midfield, snuffing out counter-attacks as the home side made a strong start.

Juve struggled to handle PSG on the left flank but had a chance in the 18th minute when Donnarumma denied Arkadiusz Milik with a superb save.

PSG, however, doubled their advantage four minutes later, with Mbappe finishing from just inside the area after a quick one-two with Achraf Hakimi for his eighth goal in his last seven Champions League matches.

In just 22 minutes, Juve had conceded as many goals as in their first five Serie A games.

The hosts soaked up some mild pressure from the Italian side before pressing forward again after the break with Neymar forcing Mattia Perin to a save in the 49th.

Lionel Messi then set up Mbappe down the right flank but the France forward, instead of sending the ball across to the unmarked Neymar, took his chance with a shot that went well wide.

What should have been a 3-0 turned into 2-1 when McKennie headed home from Filip Kostic's cross, benefiting from Donnarumma's ill-timed intervention, as the keeper came out but got nowhere near the ball, leaving the goal unguarded.

The Italy international, however, pulled off a brilliant save shortly afterwards to deny Dusan Vlahovic and was at it again later to block Manuel Locatelli's attempt.

The hosts soaked up some mild pressure from the Italian side before pressing forward again after the break with Neymar forcing Mattia Perin to a save in the 49th.

Kylian Mbappe shines as PSG beat Juventus 2-1 to get off to a winning start in Champions League

Two heavyweights will lock horns in the UEFA Champions League group stage fixture when the Lionel Messi-starrer Paris Saint Germain (PSG) will take on the Italian giants Juventus in their first match on Tuesday as the 2022/23 season kicks off with a number of mega clashes in the opening week.

Talking about the PSG line-up, they have a star-studded team in the form of Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and the likes. While they were eliminated in the Round of 16 in last year's UCL season, they are expected to go the distance this time around with enough firepower at their disposal. On the other hand, Juventus have also not been at their best in the marquee tournament in the last few seasons with them having reached the final way back in the 2016/17 season. Since then, all they have managed are quarter-final finishes on the last two occasions.

PSG are currently at the top of the Ligue 1 standings, with five wins in half a dozen games, Juventus are placed 7th in the Serie A standings having earned only two wins in 5 encounters.

VAR (Video Assistant Referee) was under the scanner once again for a controversial decision during Manchester United's 31- win over arch-rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday. United brought an end to Arsenal's winning streak in the competition by handing them their first defeat of the season.

However, it was not the most perfect start for United in the game against the Premier League table-toppers. The Gunners took lead after Gabriel Martinelli scored the opener in the 11th minute, however, the goal was ruled out after a VAR check.

It was deemed that United midfielder Christian Eriksen was fouled by Arsenal's Martin Odegaard in the build-up to the goal. After the goal was disallowed much to Arsenal's dejection, United piled on more misery on them as Antony scored on debut to put them ahead.

Arsenal equalised in the second half but two sensational goals from Marcus Rashford later in the game put the game to bed for United as they clinched a comfortable victory. While Arsenal fans are still complaining about the controversial VAR decision, shocking footage has emerged from the game which shows Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus deliberately kicking United defender Lisandro Martinez.

In some unseen footage from the game, a frustrated Jesus can be seen kicking Martinez in frustration while on the ground. It would certainly have been a red card for the Brazilian had the incident been caught by the referee. However, he managed to luckily escape one despite his clear kick out at Martinez. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.

In a shocking confession, Juventus star Paul Pogba admitted to having contacted a witch doctor but denied allegations that it was to cast a spell on his France teammate Kylian Mbappe. Pogba is at the centre of a massive controversy after his elder brother Mathias Pogba accused him of using witchcraft to hinder Mbappe's performances for France.

What appears to be a long-brewing family feud, kicked off after Mathias shared a weird video on social media vowing to make 'explosive' revelations against Pogba. The Juventus star's camp responded immediately by levelling allegations of extortion against Mathias. Pogba's team alleged Mathias was part of a syndicate which is trying to extort money out of Pogba.

As per France Info, Pogba admitted to paying a witchcraft doctor in his second police interview with French investigators last month. In the interview, Pogba said he got in touch with the witch doctor for the sake of a humanitarian organisation which helps children in Africa, not Mbappe.

Paul Pogba shockingly admits to using witchcraft but denies it was to cast a spell on Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe on Monday played down suggestions that his relationship with Paul Pogba could be impacted after his name came up in a blackmail affair engulfing his France teammate. Pogba says he is the victim of a multi-million euro blackmail plot to discredit him by claiming he asked a witch doctor to cast a spell on Mbappe. The claims about the witch doctor were revealed publicly by Pogba's elder brother Mathias. Paul Pogba, who left Manchester United in the close season to return to former club Juventus, denies the accusation.

"No because today as things stand I prefer to believe what my teammate says," Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe said when asked if there might be a problem with Pogba. Mbappe was speaking at a press conference ahead of Tuesday's Champions League game between PSG and Pogba's Juventus in Paris. "He called me and gave me his version of events. It is his word against his brother's word. I am going to trust my teammate," Mbappe said of his fellow 2018 World Cup winner. "I think it's in the interests of the national team as well with a big tournament coming up. "At the moment he already has certain problems and now is not the time to add to those problems. "We'll see what happens but I am quite detached from all that."

It might be time for Liverpool to start worrying about its slow start to the English Premier League. Jurgen Klopp's team dropped points for the fourth time in six games after an eventful 0-0 draw at Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah hitting the post in the 95th minute.

Chelsea has VAR to thank for not being in a similar position. Thomas Tuchel's team, having lost two of their previous three games, held on for a 2-1 victory over West Ham at Stamford Bridge after the visitors had an injury-time equalizer overturned in what Hammers manager David Moyes called a 'scandalous and rotten' decision.

Chelsea already has two losses and a draw in the opening six games, while Liverpool has three draws and one loss, having needed a goal in the eighth minute of injury time to beat Newcastle in midweek.

"It's not the start we wanted," Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. "It's not a dream, it's exactly 50% of the points available. But that's the points we got, and let's go from here. If we go through these really hard moments together we have a good chance to create better moments in the future."

Tottenham's start to the league has been more impressive, and Antonio Conte's team remained unbeaten after beating Fulham 2-1 at home in another London derby, with Harry Kane scoring his fifth goal of the season to take sole possession of third place in the Premier League's list of all-time top scorers.

In the highest-scoring game of the day, Ivan Toney had a hat trick for Brentford in a 5-2 win over Leeds, whose American manager Jesse Marsch was sent off in the second half for protesting a refereeing decision.

Bournemouth, still without a manager after Scott Parker was fired this week, came from 2-0 down in the second half to earn a 3-2 away win at Nottingham Forest in a game between promoted sides, while Wolverhampton earned its first victory of the season by beating Southampton 1-0.

Newcastle missed a host of chances as it was held at home by Crystal Palace to 0-0. Manchester City played at Aston Villa late, while leader Arsenal was traveling to Manchester United on Sunday.

GOALKEEPERS SHINE

Perhaps the only two players to be happy with the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park were the goalkeepers. Everton's Jordan Pickford and Liverpool's Alisson pulled off stellar saves while Liverpool also had three shots hit the woodwork.

That included Salah's shot in injury time which brushed the fingertips of Pickford before slamming against the near post. Everton also hit the post once in the first half while Alisson's best save came in the 85th when he was at full stretch to push Dwight McNeil's deflected shot over the bar.

Everton thought it scored in the 69th when former Liverpool player Conor Coady turned in a low cross-shot from Neal Maupay at the far post, but it was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

MOYES FURIOUS

Moyes didn't hide his anger with the decision to rule out West Ham's equalizer at Stamford Bridge. "It's a scandalous decision," the Scottish manager said. "Absolutely rotten decision."

Maxwel Cornet hammered the ball into an open net after Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy managed to only push the ball into his path, but referee Andy Madley ruled it out after a review. He judged Jarrod Bowen fouled Mendy when attempting to jump over him.

The decision bailed out Chelsea after an underwhelming performance that once again highlighted the team's lack of firepower up front.

With new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang watching in the stands, Chelsea didn't produce a single shot on target by the time Michail Antonio put West Ham ahead following a corner in the 63rd minute.

But defender Ben Chilwell equalized from a tight angle then teed up Kai Havertz to side-foot home in the 88th. Tuchel gave the United States international Cristian Pulisic his first start of the season alongside Raheem Sterling in attack but he was taken off after an hour.

These feelings were made extremely apparent by the managers and players concerned in the aftermath of their respective matches.

In the wake of these developments, the Premier League has now called for an investigation in tandem with the PGMOL to look into the circumstances surrounding critical moments at St. James Park and Stamford Bridge.

Shortly after the PGMOL were asked to look into the matter, the organisation admitted that the decisions that were taken during the matches were incorrect.

Fans will be able to raise a drink while celebrating the goals and victories of their favourite teams during the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar this year. Qatar has decided to allow beer sales during the tournament despite the strict restrictions on alcohol in the Muslim nation. However, there will still be limitations on alcohol sales during the showpiece event.

As per a report in Reuters, ticketed fans will be allowed to buy beer at the tournament three hours before kick-off and an hour after the full-time whistle. Beer will be sold within the ticketed perimeter surrounding the stadiums in Qatar, however, no alcohol will be served in the stands inside the stadiums.

Alcohol is not entirely banned in Qatar but as per the local law, access to alcoholic beverages is limited to only non-muslims in the country at present. Only a handful of bars and restaurants across the nation are permitted to serve alcoholic drinks, which are strictly banned for Qatari Muslims.

Qatar is set to be the first Muslim nation to host the FIFA World Cup and the organisers are expected to face major challenges when it comes to serving alcohol to the travelling fans from across the globe. Budweiser, the alcoholic beverage brand, is one of the major sponsors of the Qatar World Cup and it will hold the exclusive rights to sell beer at the tournament this year.

While beer will be sold around the ticketing perimeter at the stadiums, it will also be available at the FIFA fan zone in Doha. As per Reuters, fans will be able to buy beer at the fan zone from 6:30 pm to 1:00 am every day during the 29-day event.

"Beer will be available when gates open, which is three hours before kick-off. Whoever wants to have a beer will be able to. And then when they leave the stadium as well for one hour after the final whistle," a source was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Raise a drink! Qatar to allow beers sales at FIFA World Cup 2022 matches 3 hours before kick-off

Indian cricket team's head coach Rahul Dravid hilariously avoided using a four-letter word that starts with 's' while trying to praise the Pakistan bowling attack ahead of the Super Four meeting between the two teams in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (September 04). Dravid was all praise for the Pakistani bowlers but also lauded Indian bowlers for their performances in the tournament so far.

India are without the likes of fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel in the tournament but have done exceptionally well with the ball so far, picking up 15 wickets out of a potential 20 to clinch back-to-back victories in their first two matches.

When asked about the comparison between current India and Pakistan bowling attack, Dravid admitted Babar Azam & Co. had a great attack but also lauded his bowlers. Trying to put across his point, Dravid got stuck as he hesitated in using a particular world that he said had four letters and started with 's'.

"Yes, they bowled well, I won't deny that. Of course they are a good bowling side. But we also bowled well to restrict them to 147. Yes, sometimes in the numbers, it will show that someone bowled at 145 kmph, someone at 147 kmph, but at the end of the day, bowling analysis is most important," Dravid said.

"Whether you are bowling at 135 or 145 or 125, whether you are swinging the ball or not, you are judged by the results. And bowling analysis of our fast bowlers was also pretty good. So I respect their bowling, certainly, but I am very confident that we have a very good bowling attack as well," he went on.

The India head coach then started his next sentence by saying - "Might not be as.." before stopping in the middle. He tried finishing his sentence before admitting he can't use the word that came to his mind. "Wanted to use the word, but I can't use that word, the word in my mind is coming out of my mouth, but I can't use it," Dravid said leaving the reporters amused.

A reporter then tried to help the India head coach by asking if the word he wanted to use was "exuberant". However, Dravid was quick to say no and revealed it was a four-letter word that starts with 's'.

"No, not 'exuberant'. It's a little bit... four letters, starts with 'S', but ok," Dravid said, leaving the reporters in splits.

"We might not look glamorous, but we have got some guys who produce results," he concluded.

Liverpool and Everton recently locked horns with each other in the infamous Merseyside Derby, where Jordan Pickford managed to hold the Reds off to a goalless draw at Goodison Park.

Jurgen Klopp reviewed his team's performance while in conversation with the media in the aftermath of the game. While he admitted that the Reds had put on an impressive display, he did not fail to offer credit where it was due, hailing Pickford for his performance.

However, the goal was correctly disallowed after a VAR check adjudged it offside, naturally sparking outrage from fans in the stadium.

'He is a top player'- Steven Gerrard admits Aston Villa will be wary of the threat Erling Haaland presents

French midfielder Paul Pogba's elder brother Mathias Pogba recently levelled some shocking allegations against the Juventus star. Mathias accused Pogba of using witchcraft to cast a spell on his France teammate Kylian Mbappe among others.

Mathias' shocking revelations came after Pogba alleged his brother was part of a blackmail attempt to extort money out of him. Pogba's camp had released a statement about him being blackmailed after Mathias shared a bizarre video on social media where he claimed he had some serious explosive revelations to make about his brother.

Mathias' accusing Pogba of using witchcraft is not the first time sorcery has been discussed in football. There have been several instances in the past when people have claimed to use black magic in football. Ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, a Ghanaian witch doctor had claimed to have caused Cristiano Ronaldo a knee injury.

When a Ghanaian witch doctor said he caused Ronaldo's injury

Ronaldo was at the peak of his powers and had enjoyed a stellar season with Real Madrid heading into the World Cup in 2014. He was the reigning Ballon d'Or winner and had also helped Real Madrid claim the Champions League title last season. He was establishing his credentials as one of the best in the world and was expected to set the stage on fire at the World Cup.

However, Ronaldo suffered a knee injury in the build-up to the World Cup in Brazil which put his participation in the showpiece event in doubt. A Ghanaian witch doctor claimed he cast a spell on the former Real Madrid star to ensure he either missed the entire World Cup or didn't play against Ghana.

The Ghanaian witch doctor named Nana Kwaku Bonsam - which translates to 'Devil of Wednesday', had claimed he was 'working on' Ronaldo to make him miss Portugal's last group stage clash against Ghana at the 2014 World Cup. As per a report in The Guardian, the witch doctor claimed he had formulated a special powder from his gods and mixed it with some leaves to place it around an image of Ronaldo.

“I know what Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury is about, I’m working on him,” Bonsam had told a local radio channel in an interview at the time.

“I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam.

“I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World up or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out through injury. This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else," he further claimed.

However, the witch doctor's claims proved to be baseless as the FIFA World Cup kicked off in Brazil. Though Ronaldo faced continuous troubles with his fitness, he went on to play all three games for his country in the group stage, including their final encounter against Ghana.

Portugal suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss against Germany in their opening game before drawing 2-2 against the USA as Ronaldo remained goalless in both games. The superstar forward scored an 80th-minute-winner against Ghana in their final group game but the win was not enough to take Portugal to the knockout stages as they bowed out of the tournament.

While Giggs may breathe a sigh of fleeting relief as he seems to be in the clear, albeit temporarily, his former teammate and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville may be knee-deep in murky waters himself.

Neville is currently facing potential charges of contempt of court after making certain remarks on social media on the morning of the opening day of Ryan Giggs' assault and compulsive and coercive behaviour trial.

However, Neville has maintained his innocence throughout this ordeal, claiming that the comment that was made was not in relation to Giggs' trial but the way the Glazer family is running his former club, Manchester United.

Judge Manley, who was alerted to the issue early in the trial, has since decided to refer his case to the top lawyer in the government, the Attorney General.

"Both the prosecution and defence agreed with me, in the absence of any comment from the jury, and given my clear direction, the trial could properly continue," she said.

Winds of change were blowing over the All India Football Federation on the eve of its polls as the sports body braced up to elect a former player as its president for the first time in its 85-year-old existence.

In Friday's elections for the post of AIFF president, 45-year-old Bhaichung Bhutia, one of the biggest legends in Indian football, will have a straight fight with former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey.

While Bhutia's candidature has got the election more traction than it would have got if he was not in the fray, Chaubey, also 45, is believed to be the front-runner for the top job with backing from politically important state associations like Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.

To put it on record, Chaubey is a BJP leader from West Bengal and there would be no marks for guessing that he does enjoy a fair amount of political currency, which is a must in these kinds of sports body polls.

There has been a lot of noise as Chaubey is believed to have the "blessings" of one of the most influential political heavyweights from the North East with an active interest in Indian sports.

And many people connected to Indian football see this as the reason why Bhutia's home state association Sikkim isn't supporting his candidature. Elections to the other two top posts -- general secretary and treasurer -- will also see straight fights between two candidates.

Rajasthan Football Association president Manvendra Singh, a Congress politician (also the son of former defence minister Yashwant Singh of BJP), entered the fray against N A Haris for the lone vice-president's post.

Haris is the president of Karnataka FA and a sitting Congress MLA from the state. Manvendra's state association had seconded the candidature of Bhutia. Andhra Pradesh state association president Gopalakrishna Kosaraju and Kipa Ajay of Arunachal Pradesh are the two candidates in the fray for the treasurer's post.

Kosaraju, who had proposed Bhutia as the presidential candidate, had on August 26 written a letter to withdraw his candidature. But sources said he had not filled up a form to withdraw and hence, his candidature remained.

The new AIFF dispensation will have lots on its plate, the foremost task among them being the smooth conduct of the FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup in October. After the deadline for withdrawal of candidature ended at 1 pm on Tuesday, returning officer Umesh Sinha released the final list of contestants for each post for the polls.

The electoral college of 34 representatives from the state associations has been issued by the returning officer. Elections are to be held for the posts of one president, one vice president, one treasurer and 14 executive committee members.

Six former players -- four male and two women -- will be co-opted later as executive committee members with voting rights. As only 14 candidates are in the fray for as many posts of executive committee members, all of them are set to be declared elected.

They are G P Palguna, Avijit Paul, P Anilkumar, Valanka Natasha Alemao, Maloji Raje Chhatrapati, Menla Ethenpa, Mohan Lal, Arif Ali, K Neibou Sekhose, Lalnghinglova Hmar, Deepak Sharma, Vijay Bali and Syed Imtiaz Husain.

The polls were earlier scheduled to be held under the aegis of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on August 28. But, in a verdict on August 22, the SC terminated the mandate of the CoA, disallowed the inclusion of 36 former players in the electoral college and postponed the polls by a week in order to salvage the Women's U-17 World Cup whose hosting was jeopardised after FIFA suspended the AIFF.

The world football governing body though lifted the ban on August 26, clearing the decks for India to host the Women's U-17 World Cup in October. Known as 'Sikkimese Sniper' during his playing days for his goal-scoring prowess, Bhutia alleged meddling from some ruling Sikkim Krantakari Morcha (SKM) party leaders by way of pressurising the state football body president Menla Ethenpa to vote against him.

During his illustrious career, Bhutia made a total of 104 appearances for the Indian team, and retired from the sport as a player in 2011, with a then-record 40 goals to his name. In 1999, Bhutia became the first Indian footballer to sign with a European club, after he was roped in by English team Bury.

His career also included successful stints at prominent Indian clubs like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Selangor and United Sikkim. Following his retirement as a player, the former India captain managed teams like United Sikkim and also headed the AIFF's technical committee.

Bhutia's opponent in the polls, Chaubey is a graduate of the renowned Tata Football Academy (TFA) and a pass-out of its golden batch of 1996. Some of Chaubey's batch-mates include Dipendu Biswas, Renedy Singh, Lolendro Singh, and former Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty to name a few.

Chaubey made his senior club football debut in 1996 with Mohun Bagan and went on to represent East Bengal, JCT and Salgaocar among others from 1997 to 2003. The former goalkeeper is remembered for being a part of the SAFF Championship winning squad thrice and representing five different states in the national championship during his career.

During his professional career spanning 15 years, Chaubey became a five-time runner-up in the I-League/National Football League. He had been to Germany for trials in Bundesliga clubs like Karlsruher SC and VfR Heilbronn.

After his retirement as a player, he served many football associations and also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Krishnanagar Constituency, where he lost to Trinamool Congress' Mohua Moitra. Chaubey is married to former Mohun Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra's daughter Sohini.

Chaubey has represented the Indian team in the U-17 Asian Youth Championship held in Tehran, Iran, 1994, U-20 Asian Youth Championship held at Suwon/Seol, South Korea in 1996, Pre-Olympic Qualification 1999-00 and in the senior Indian national team 1999-2006.

The 48-year-old was charged with assault after he head-butted Greville and elbowed her younger sister in the face during a violent skirmish at his Greater Manchester residence back in November 2020. In addition to assault, Giggs was also charged with the use of controlling and coercive behaviour over the course of three years from 2017 to 2020.

The incident that took place at Giggs'mancunian residence, brought an end to an on-and-off relationship that lasted for six years. However, the Welsh footballing sensation categorically denied all the charges that were brought upon him during the trial that lasted for weeks. Although Giggs maintained his innocence regarding violent assault over the course of the entire trial, he did admit that he had indulged in infidelity.

A jury that was made up of four men and seven women was recently discharged after it was revealed that there was 'no reasonable prospect' of the jury reaching a verdict even if they were given more time. This comes after a deliberation period of 23 hours.

The Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga has remained in the headlines for a long period. While Ronaldo remains desperate to leave Manchester United, his agent Jorge Mendes is working hard to fulfill his client's demand of finding him a new and suitable club. As per reports, the Portuguese striker wants to make a move as he is eager to play the Champions League (CL) and, thus, remains adamant about exiting the club at Old Trafford.

Mendes has reportedly been in talks with many top clubs such as Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, Athletico Madrid, etc. for Ronaldo's transfer. However, nothing emerged out of these discussions. As per a report, he has once again reopened talks with Chelsea after they failed to acquire the services of Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Pierre-Emerick reportedly isn't keen on signing a one-year contract being offered by the Blues and wants a longer deal. Hence, the Man United striker Ronaldo has once again come into the picture for the Thomas Tuchel-led club, who are in need of an aggressive striker post the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Earlier, Mendes had first held talks with Chelsea about signing Ronaldo. Back then, Tuchel had his apprehensions and decided against it after unimpressive feedback about the superstar striker from Erik Ten Hag, manager at Old Trafford. Despite Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly being interested in acquiring the Portugal captain's services, the deal went down the drain. Nonetheless, it seems with Aubameyang's deal getting stalled, Ronaldo has a chance to make a switch and enter Chelsea.

Manchester United on Tuesday (August 30) confirmed they have agreed a deal with Dutch club Ajax to sign highly-rated Brazilian winger Antony. The Brazil star was continuously pushing to join United and reunite with his former manager Erik Ten Hag, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax earlier this year.

Antony has been one of the most exciting players in the Eredivisie - the Dutch top flight since joining Ajax from Brazilian club Sao Paulo in 2020. He scored a total of 25 goals in 82 appearances for Ajax across competitions and showcased glimpses of his talent and skills throughout the last two seasons.

Ten Hag had made Antony one of his priority targets after the club missed out on signing ‎Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, who joined Premier League rivals Liverpool. Antony was desperate to join United and had gone on strike at Ajax as he missed training and also didn't feature in the Dutch club's last game against Utrecht on Sunday (August 28).

United on Tuesday announced they have agreed a deal to sign the Brazilian and the deal remains subject to a medical, player terms being finalised, and international clearance.

Antony reportedly had already expressed his desire to leave Ajax in February this year and was pushing to join United in the summer. However, the club didn't approve his sale after already selling a host of key players in the form of Lisandro Martinez, Sebastian Haller and Nicolas Tagliafico among others. However, Antony had his heart set on a move to United.

As per BBC, Manchester United are set to pay a staggering fee of £81.3 million for the Brazilian winger, making him the club's second-most expensive signing after Paul Pogba, who left for Juventus earlier this summer. It is also a record fee for any player sold by any club in the Eredivisie.

Antony becomes Manchester United's fifth signing of the summer after the club signed Christian Eriksen, Martinez, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia. He is expected to take the right-wing spot while Jadon Sancho might shift to the left-win position with Marcus Rasfhford currently playing as a number nine in Anthony Martial's absence.

Manchester United agree deal to sign highly-rated Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax

Cristiano Ronaldo isn't having the best of time at Manchester United. Reportedly, he is desperate to move out of the Old Trafford club, however, his agent Jorge Mendes has still not been able to find a suitable club for his superstar client. While the superstar striker has no option but to continue with the Red Devils till the time his agent finds him a new club, the 37-year-old has started most of his game on the bench for Man United in the ongoing EPL 2022/23 season.

Ronaldo started on the bench in two of the last three games for the Erik Ten Hag-led Man United in the current EPL season. The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar was made to warm the bench and wasn't named in the starting XI by the new manager in Man United's clash versus rivals Liverpool and minnows Southampton as well. Thus, the premier club's icon and former England defender Rio Ferdinand opined on Ronaldo's situation at the club.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said, "Whether he stays or not, none of us know. But knowing Cristiano, I know for a fact that he will be absolutely fuming right now. You don't get to do what he's done in his career over this amazing amount of time at the levels he's been playing by being someone who's going to accept not starting for a team that isn't in the UEFA Champions League,"

"Ronaldo is not built like that. You can't expect him to change at 37. He'd have been the same at 21. We were talking before the game with [Paul] Scholes – I remember when [David] Beckham got dropped a couple of games, he [was] fuming. Superstars are built differently. They don't believe they have bad games, they don't believe they don't play well [and] they don't believe they get things wrong in their game because they are so hell-bent on success and their belief in their skills and themselves that they don't see failures," the 43-year-old further added.

As far as Ronaldo's transfer saga is concerned, the Portugal captain's agent has reportedly got in talks with Chelsea once again to sign the superstar footballer after Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was unwilling to pen a one-year-contract being offered by the Blues. Not getting enough game time at Man United, Ronaldo will be eager to make a move at the earliest.
