Cristiano Ronaldo has shunned talks regarding his retirement from international football and said he wants to continue playing for a few more years. The Portuguese legend had earlier said the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 will be his final international tournament but has now expressed his desire to continue till the Euros in 2024.

One of the greatest footballers of all time, Ronaldo has been going strong despite turning 37 earlier this year. While he has lost pace and is not as effective on the pitch as he once was, Ronaldo is still one of the fittest footballers around and had proved his mettle once again after returning to the Premier League last season.

He scored 18 goals in the Premier League after returning to Manchester United and was the club's top scorer last season across all competitions. Ronaldo said he still feels motivated to continue playing at the highest level and is targeting the 2024 Euros after the FIFA World Cup this year.

'I hope to be a part of the Federation for a few more years. I still feel motivated, my ambition is high. My path in the national team is not over. We have many quality youngsters. I will be at the World Cup and I want to be at the European Championship," said Ronaldo at the Portuguese Football Federation's annual Quinas de Ouro awards ceremony.

Ronaldo was awarded an honorary accolade at the award ceremony for being the highest goal-scorer of all time for Portugal. The 37-year-old superstar forward has scored 117 goals for Portugal so far in his career and is currently the top goal-scorer in international football among active players.

Ronaldo will turn 39 by the time the Euro 224 arrive but he is willing to go the distance and work hard in maintaining his fitness to keep delivering at the highest level. Ronaldo led Portugal to a memorable Euro triumph in 2016 where he scored 3 goals in seven matches.

A clinical Real Madrid extended their perfect start to the LaLiga season when they beat city rivals Atletico 2-1 at the Metropolitano on Sunday.

Despite being second best for large periods of the first half, Carlo Ancelotti's side were ruthless in front of goal as strikes from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde put them in a commanding position. Mario Hermoso pulled a goal back for the hosts late on but they were unable to find an equaliser.

Victory means Real return to the top of the LaLiga table on 18 points from six games, two ahead of Barcelona in second. Atletico are seventh, eight points behind their neighbours.

"You're always very happy after winning the derby," Ancelotti said.

"We managed to double our lead and then defend really well. Our gameplan was to be solid at the back and to play direct with the ball between the lines.

"That's how we scored and we knew once we'd got 2-0 up that defending would be enough to get us over the line."

The match, however, was marred by Atletico fans chanting racist abuse at Real's Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr outside their Metropolitano Stadium ahead of the derby.

Diego Simeone's side started brightly and went close through defender Felipe and Yannick Carrasco but found themselves behind when Rodrygo emphatically finished the visitors' first attempt on target on 18 minutes.

It was a goal largely out of nothing, with Aurelien Tchouameni's pass over the top catching the home side's defence cold and allowing the Brazilian to fire home on the half-volley.

Antoine Griezmann forced a save from Real keeper Thibaut Courtois as the hosts looked to bounce back, but Madrid doubled their lead with their next effort on goal when Valverde fired in from close range after Vinicius's shot had rebounded off the post.

Atletico set up a grandstand finish through substitute Hermoso's header seven minutes from time following a rare mistake from Courtois who misjudged a cross, before the defender was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury time and Real held on to take the points.

Manchester United defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in the Europa League match on Thursday (September 15). It was a clinical display from the Erik Ten Hag-led Red Devils and the clash also made heads turn with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his first goal of the ongoing season, by converting a penalty to extend his side's lead in the recent face-off in Moldova.

It isn't everyday when a team as big as Man United travel to the small nation. Moreover, the people of the country went bonkers in the stadium seeing Ronaldo at his best. His goal sent the spectators into a frenzy as the 37-year-old finally opened his goal-scoring account this season. But it wasn't only the crowd present in the stands who went out of control seeing CR7's heroics. When the Man United players were coming out of the airport to take the team bus, many had gathered in large numbers to greet the star-studded line-up. The loudest cheer was for Ronaldo and just then a young fan -- donning a Man United jersey -- breached the security and ran towards the legendary footballer.

Ronaldo hugged the youngster and even signed an autograph for him while taking him to the team bus. Here's the video of the entire episode as many have hailed Ronaldo for his heartfelt gesture towards his young follower:

Bengaluru FC beat Mumbai FC 2-1 in the Durand Cup final at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday (September 18). However, the match made heads turn for all the wrong reasons when a West Bengal Governor pushed Bengaluru skipper Sunil Chhetri for obstructing his view during the presentation ceremony. The video of the shocking incident has gone viral with the politician being trolled massively for his behaviour towards the Indian captain. Interestingly, this wasn't the only such incident during the presentation ceremony. Another chief guest pushed aside Sivasakthi Narayanan, the opening goal-scorer for the victorious Bengaluru side at the iconic stadium. Here's a look at both the videos, which have led to massive trolling of the politicians for disrespecting the country's football stars: Ladies & gentlemen, bringing you Shri La. Ganeshan, honorable Governor of West Bengal. #DurandCup The high-headedness is audacious. Not expected of a respectable figure, @LaGanesan. Monza took a surprising but deserved 1-0 home win over Juventus on Sunday, their first Serie A victory of the season, as the visitors struggled after being reduced to 10 men.

Juve key player Angel Di Maria's return from injury was cut short when he was sent off five minutes before the break after elbowing Armando Izzo in the chest.

"We need to do better, certainly. The red card affected the game; Angel was a bit harassed by Izzo, a player who is known for using these tactics, and he fell for it. I didn’t see the replay but was told it was the right decision to send him off," Juve's assistant manager Marco Landucci told DAZN.

Juventus had half-chances in the first half but were struggling to create momentum, while Monza were effective in breaking down the play in midfield.

Dusan Vlahovic had several attempts on goal but none of them were difficult for Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to stop.

Newly-promoted Monza smelled blood in the second half and pressured the opposition defence to make mistakes, while Juve tried to look for counter-attacking chances.

Substitute Christian Gytkjaer became the hero when he slid in the winner from Patrick Ciurria's cross in the 74th minute.

Moise Kean came close to equalising for Juventus in the 81st minute when his header was on target, but Di Gregorio was alert and held it firmly in his grip.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri was not allowed on the bench for Juve's first Serie A loss of the season, after being sent off last Sunday in the 2-2 home draw against Salernitana for protesting about a disallowed VAR goal.

"Obviously, nobody is happy right now, but in order to emerge from this situation we can only work hard and do better," Landucci said.

"We started well and then stopped playing, so the only method is to work and everyone raises their game to work in the same direction."

Serie A: Monza pull off stunning 1-0 win against struggling Juventus to bag first win of the season

Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League with a dominant 3-0 win at Brentford, while Everton beat West Ham 1-0 to get their first victory of the season on Sunday.

Injuries to captain Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko had stretched Arsenal's squad to the extent that 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench late to become the youngest player in Premier League history.

However, the Gunners showed no sign of weakness at a ground where they were beaten 2-0 last season to move back one point above Manchester City and Tottenham at the top of the table.

William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus headed in before half-time and Fabio Vieira marked his first Premier League start with a stunning strike after the break. Brentford boss Thomas Frank said he believes Arsenal will be title contenders and they played like it to blow away the Bees in the first 45 minutes.

"We have a different mentality this season," said Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka. "We are training like we play and have class with the players that can make a difference."

The match had been moved forward two hours to help ease police pressures around Queen Elizabeth II's funeral and Britain's longest-serving monarch was remembered in a minute's silence before kick-off.

Once the action did get underway, it was one way traffic as Arsenal bounced back in style from their sole defeat of the season away to Manchester United two weeks ago.
It took just 17 minutes for Mikel Arteta's men to make the breakthrough when Saliba flicked Bukayo Saka's corner in off the far post.

Jesus also used his head to score his fourth goal in seven Premier League games since joining from Manchester City as he powered home an enticing delivery from Xhaka.

The absence of Odegaard also made room for Vieira and the Portuguese midfielder made his mark with a sumptuous strike from outside the box to kill off any doubt over the outcome four minutes into the second half.

An easy day for Arsenal was rounded off a minute from time when Arteta was able to hand Nwaneri his debut as just 15 years and 181 days, breaking Harvey Elliott's record as the youngest player in Premier League history when he appeared for Fulham as a 16-year-old.

"It was a pure gut feeling," said Arteta on handing Nwaneri a debut.

"Yesterday he had to come because we have injuries, especially the injury of Martin and then I had that feeling from yesterday that if the opportunity could come that I was going to do it."

At the other end of the table, West Ham will spend the upcoming international break in the bottom three after Neal Maupay's first Everton goal gave the Toffees a much-needed win. Frank Lampard's men are now unbeaten in five league games but had just four points on the board before kick-off from four consecutive draws.

An injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin forced Everton to seek more firepower in the final weeks of the transfer window and Maupay delivered on just his second appearance since a move from Brighton. The Frenchman spun onto Alex Iwobi's pass and fired in from the edge of the area to lift Everton up to 13th in the table.

William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus score as Arsenal thrash Brentford 3-0 to regain Premier League top spot

Arsenal thrashed Brentford 3-0 on Sunday to reclaim the top spot on the Premier League table and continue their magnificent run this season. Mikel Arteta's men were dealing with injuries to some of their key players ahead of the game but managed to clinch all three points after a clinical display away from home.

Arteta handed out a special Premier League debut to talented young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri during the game as he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League. 15-year-old Nwaneri came on as a substitute in injury time to replace Fabio Vieira and set a new record in the league.

At 15 years and 181 days, he is the youngest player to have graced the Premier League, surpassing Harvey Elliott's record, who made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 years and 30 days for Fulham in 2019. Nwaneri has grown through the ranks at Arsenal's academy and has played for the club's U-18 team before making his senior-team debut on Sunday.

Who is Ethan Nwaneri?

Nwaneri, who is still in school, had to change on his own and was not allowed to do that with the rest of the Arsenal team on Sunday as he is still 15. Born in 2007, as per reports, Nawneri joined the Arsenal academy at the age of nine and has since developed into a brilliant midfield prospect.

Nwaneri made his debut for the Arsenal U-18s when he was only 14 and scored on his debut against Reading. He is an attacking midfielder, who has creativity and pace going forward. Nwaneri is touted to become one of the key members of the Arsenal squad in the future, joining the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Speaking about his talent, Arteta said he was really impressed by what he saw from Nwaneri in training and wanted to hand his dream debut if there was an opportunity against Brentford.

“I met the boy, I really liked what I saw. He has trained a couple of times with us. And I had a feeling from yesterday that if the opportunity could come, I was going to do it. He deserves it and it sends a really strong message about who we are as a club," Arteta said after Arsenal's 3-0 win over Brentford.

A Pakistani reporter has been slammed online after he raised an objection to the Pakistan women's football team payers wearing shorts during their matches in a tournament. The Pakistan women's team recently returned home after the end of their campaign in the ongoing South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Cup in Nepal where they earned their biggest in against Maldives.

Pakistan recorded a forgetful campaign in the SAFF Women's Cup but managed to end their tournament on a high by beating Maldives comprehensively by 7-0 in their last game. It was their first win in the tournament in eight years and the team was lauded by many for their superb performance.

They received a warm reception back home after recording their biggest win in the tournament but things soon turned sour for the players and the members of the support staff during the press conference back home. A reporter decided to focus on the kits of the Pakistani players instead of their performances and went on to ask an absurd question.

Raising an objection to the female players wearing shorts during the tournament in Nepal, the reporter asked head coach Adeel Rizki why the players didn't wear leggings during their matches in Nepal.

“As you know we belong to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan which is an Islamic country, I want to ask why are these girls wearing shorts, not leggings,” the reporter asked Rizki during the presser.

Clearly taken aback by the question, the Pakistan women's team head coach responded, "one has to be progressive".

“We have never tried to stop anyone as far as the uniform is concerned, it’s something we don’t control,” he explained.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski continued his insatiable run of form in front of goal by scoring twice and Memphis Depay also got on the scoresheet as the Catalans cruised to a 3-0 win at home to struggling Elche in LaLiga on Saturday.

The victory took Barca top of the standings on 16 points from six games although Real Madrid, on 15, can return to the summit if they win away at Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Barcelona's coach Xavi Hernandez rotated his squad for the visit of the league's bottom side, making five changes to the team that lost 2-0 at Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

His side's task was made easier when Elche centre-back Gonzalo Verdu was sent off in the 14th minute for pulling Lewandowski's shirt as the striker was about to reach the area. From that moment on a fifth consecutive league win for Barca looked inevitable, and so it proved.

"We have a big squad, everyone is training well and prepared to play when the team needs them, and that's the important thing," said Xavi.

"This is an atypical year with the compressed calendar so we need all our players and we need to make sure that whoever plays, they are up to the task. We have a lot of players to choose and squads win titles, not starting 11s."

Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 34th minute, arriving deep in the area to knock in a cross from Alejandro Balde and score for the fifth consecutive game in LaLiga.

Memphis scored a magnificent goal to double Barcelona's lead in the 41st minute, receiving the ball with his back to goal and a defender right behind him but swivelling at speed and blasting into the roof of the net.

Moments later the hosts thought they had scored a third when Pedri netted a pass from Lewandowski but the effort was ruled out for offside. The decision, however, could not placate Elche's furious coach Francisco, who was sent off for dissent.

Lewandowski grabbed his second goal of the game early in the second half, pouncing inside the area after Memphis had fought hard to win back the ball.

It was the Polish striker's eighth league goal this season and his 11th in all competitions, and he nearly completed a hat-trick later on, firing just over the crossbar.

Battling racism in and around the realm of football has become the prime focus of the stalwarts in the field. Dani Alves recently opened up about the pervasive issue that still exists in all corners of the sport.

Alves took to social media to express his frustrations regarding the matter, admitting that racism was a huge issue in the community. This came shortly after Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior found himself at the receiving end of racist slurs.

Not all is well between Brazilian superstar Neymar and French striker Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The duo has been often spotted at odds during PSG's matches this season and there have been reports of a rift between the two stars. However, the club have denied the speculations so far.

Mbappe and Neymar were spotted arguing over penalties at the start of the season which led to rumours of a fallout between the two. Later in the season, the Brazilian was also seen getting frustrated when the French striker refused to pass him the ball for a clear open goal during PSG's Champions League clash against Juventus.

While PSG's head coach Christophe Galtier has already denied the rumours of a rift between the two stars, PSG's football advisor Luis Campos also responded to the speculations. Campos was asked about the reports stating that Mbappe wanted Neymar out of the club earlier this summer after signing a fresh three-year deal at PSG.

Neymar was also linked with a move away from PSG after his average performances last season and reports claimed Mbappe too had a role to play in trying to push the Brazilian out. However, Campos has denied the rumours and said Neymar was never on his way out of PSG.

"No. I even heard that Kylian had demanded that we take Neymar out. No. We count on all three. Last year, Kylian was the best player in the world. Messi was adapting, Neymar was injured and Kylian held the team together. He is a huge player," said Campos.

"But Neymar is a very good player, there is no doubt about that. And above all, everything I heard before about him, I must've listened wrong because he always arrives on time. I see a Neymar involved in the team project, in the club project," he added.

Spain unveiled their lineup for the upcoming UEFA Nations League ahead of the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar. Some of the most notable names that are missing from the lineup are Sergio Ramos, Ansu Fati and more. The exclusion of the former Real Madrid skipper has come as a surprise to a number of fans and pundits all over the world.

It is interesting to note that Ramos has featured in every game that Paris Saint-Germain have played this season and he has looked in uber impressive shape, with his age being the only factor casting a shadow on an otherwise bulletproof performance.

Thiago Alcantara, who was a vital cog in Premier League bigwigs Liverpool's side ever since his move to Anfield from Bayern Munich back in 2020, has also been omitted from the lineup. However, it is an injury that has forcibly shackled Alcantara to the sidelines. He suffered the injury early on in the season.

‘Messi changed a generation’- Dani Alves picks the Argentine over Pele as best player in history

Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the first time this season as Manchester United got their Europa League campaign back on track with a 2-0 win at Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday. Ronaldo had gone seven games without a goal before the United striker converted a first half penalty against the Moldovan champions. It was the 37-year-old's 699th club goal, but Ronaldo's low-key celebration was in keeping with the comfortable nature of United's third successive away victory. This was the kind of unglamourous fixture Ronaldo seemed desperate to avoid when he launched his unsuccessful bid to quit Old Trafford for a Champions League club in the summer.

But the Portugal star will be relieved to have got on the scoresheet, after Jadon Sancho put United ahead with a well-timed response on the day he was left out of the England squad. Ronaldo missed United's pre-season tour for "family reasons" and, while Ten Hag was pleased with his contribution against Sheriff, he says the forward needs more work to reach peak fitness.

"We could expect this when you miss pre-season so he has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness, then he will score more goals," United boss Erik ten Hag said. "You can see he is really close and when he gets fitter he will finish them. I think he is totally committed to this project and to this team. He needed that goal. He was close many times. You see connections coming around him. We're happy for him and the team wanted him to bring the goal, so that's good."

United lost their opening Group E match 1-0 against Real Sociedad last Thursday. That gave Ten Hag's men no margin for error in Chisinau and they were up to the task against a Sheriff side who beat Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage last season.

United's first trip to the far-flung outpost of Moldova served as a painful reminder of their diminished status following last season's failure to qualify for the Champions League. But, showing respect for Sheriff, Ten Hag named a strong side and Sancho, one of five changes, struck with United's first meaningful attack in the 17th minute.

- Sancho strikes -

Taking Christian Eriksen's pass in his stride, Sancho cleverly switched direction inside the Sheriff area, giving himself room to plant a cool finish into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Ronaldo doubled United's lead in the 39th minute, easily stroking in his spot-kick after Diogo Dalot was brought down by Patrick Kpozo. United remain three points behind group leaders Real Sociedad, who won 2-1 against Omonia Nicosia.

Sociedad took the lead through Ander Guevara in the 30th minute and former Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth bagged the 80th minute winner after Bruno equalised eight minutes earlier. Andrea Belotti scored his first Roma goal to cap their 3-0 win against 10-man HJK Helsinki at the Stadio Olimpico.

Jose Mourinho's side suffered a shock 2-1 loss against Ludogorets in their Group C opener, but they were always in control after HJK captain Miro Tenho was sent off in the 15th minute for a professional foul on Belotti. Paulo Dybala took just 69 seconds to break the deadlock after coming on at half-time as he fired home from the edge of the area.

Lorenzo Pellegrini chested in the second goal after 49 minutes, with former Torino forward Belotti tapping home in the 68th minute. In Group A, Bodo/Glimt beat FC Zurich 2-1 to take top spot with Arsenal's game against PSV Eindhoven postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Surprise Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Braga as Vitor Oliveira's 77th minute goal settled the Group D tie. In Group F, Midtjylland powered to a stunning 5-1 rout of Lazio, while Feyenoord's Iran winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh hit a hat-trick in their 6-0 demolition of Sturm Graz.

Antonio Conte has warned his Tottenham stars that no one is undroppable in the aftermath of their sloppy Champions League defeat at Sporting Lisbon. Conte's side crashed to their first loss in eight games in all competitions this season as Sporting scored twice in stoppage-time to win 2-0 on Tuesday.

Although Tottenham had been in good form before their trip to Portugal, there have been concerns over the form of South Korea forward Son Heung-min. Son has failed to score a single goal this term after finishing as the Premier League's joint top-scorer last season.

Harry Kane also missed several chances in the Sporting defeat and Conte was quick to make it clear he won't tolerate sustained periods of poor form, even from his best players.

"There are no players that are undroppable. This has to be very clear," Conte told reporters on Thursday. "If I am telling this it is only to protect my players and to give them the possibility to be, in every moment, at the top.

"Then you know very well you can play one game well, another you can score, another not, but my task is to try to protect my players and to protect the team. In the Champions League they are always massive games and for this reason I need to have all my players available.

"I need all my players available for rotation to be in every moment ready when I call them to play and to play well for the team, for the club, for the fans, for everybody."

Conte was pleased to see Tottenham's players were so angry after the loss and he called on them to use their frustration to fuel a bounce-back result when Leicester visit north London for Saturday's Premier League clash.
