It's been a fantastic nine or 10 years in the Premier League. Hopefully, many more years to go. I always love scoring," Kane said about going past Sergio Aguero. Spurs were initially outplayed by Ruben Neves and his band of speedsters in the first half. However, Conte and Co. rallied together in the second half with Harry Kane pouncing on the opportunity to slot the ball in the back of the net in the 64th minute.

Wolves put on an absolute clinic in the first half, putting 12 shots on the card. They displayed an excellent counter-attacking game; however, they were unable to truly test Hugo Lloris and convert their chances into a meaningful opportunity to take the lead.&nbsp;

Manchester United have had a woeful start to their Premier League campaign as they find themselves reeling at the bottom of&nbsp;the points table after back-to-back defeats in the first two matches of the season. United lost their season-opener against Brighton 2-1 before getting thrashed 4-0 by Brentford in their next game.

It has been a disastrous start for new manager Erik Ten Hag, who finds himself under immense pressure with no points two show for after the first two matches of the season. Ten Hag is set to face an even bigger test in his third game in charge of the club as United will take on arch-rivals Liverpool next.

Manchester United will lock horns with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday (August 23). While Jurgen Klopp's side has not had the best of starts to the season, they remain a hungry unit who will be looking to go all guns blazing against United as they search for their first win of the season.

Amid United's struggles this season, former club captain Wayne Rooney has urged manager Erik Ten Hag to drop both Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford. While Ronaldo appears unsettled at United having already expressed his desire to leave the club this summer, Rashford has looked far from his best in the first two games.

Rooney believes Ten Hag should be focused on getting 'energy' on the pitch after United's lethargic show in their first two games and that he should not start Ronaldo or Rashford against Liverpool. “I wouldn’t play Cristiano Ronaldo, and I wouldn’t play Marcus Rashford. If I was in Ten Hag’s position my main concern would be getting energy on the pitch,"&nbsp;the Manchester United legend wrote in his column for the Times.

“And United’s failure to recruit a No 9 means they relied on Ronaldo against Brentford, even though he hadn’t trained a lot with the team. He looked like he needs time to get match fit," he added.

Rooney also questioned Rashford's intent on the pitch and claimed the England forward looks like he belongs anywhere but on&nbsp;a football pitch. Rooney insisted he wants the best for his former teammate but he has not seen Rashford perform and smile on the pitch for a long time.

"As for Marcus, I think he needs to do a lot of soul-searching and figure out what he wants, for his own good, before anything else. Because watching him is a real concern: he looks like he wants to be anywhere but on a football pitch," wrote the former Man Utd captain.

I haven’t seen him smile on the field for a long time. His performances have dipped - he hasn’t been selected by England for more than a year. I’m coming from a place of wanting the best for him. He’s a lovely kid and a local lad who came through the ranks at United, who everyone wants to see doing well.

"But you look at the difference between Marcus now and when he first came into the team: the passion he showed, the smile on his face when he scored. It’s night and day," he added.

Manchester United said on Friday they have agreed to sign Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro in a deal worth up to a reported £60 million ($70 million). United manager Erik ten Hag has been desperate to land a defensive midfielder since taking charge at Old Trafford and has finally settled for Casemiro after failing to sign Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.&nbsp;

Troubled United, who sit bottom of the Premier League after embarrassing defeats against Brighton and Brentford, are set to pay an initial £50 million. The overall fee would rise by another £10 million if certain clauses in the contract are met.

Casemiro has been offered a four-year contract with the option of a further 12-month extension, with the transfer subject to the agreement of personal terms. The 30-year-old joined Real from Sao Paulo in 2013 and has been a key figure in midfield for the Spanish club, winning five Champions League titles.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro," a statement from United said.

"The transfer is subject to the agreement of personal terms, UK visa requirements and a medical."

Ten Hag refused to discuss the transfer at his press conference earlier on Friday, but Real boss Carlo Ancelotti was more forthcoming when speaking to the media in Spain.

"I've discussed it with him this morning. He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity," Ancelotti said.

"The club understand it. With all he's done for this club and the person he is, we have to respect it.

"If he doesn't stay, we'll have an enormous sense of gratitude to him for all he's done. We have replacements within the squad."

Real Madrid said they will hold a "tribute and farewell" to Casemiro on Monday which will be attended by the club's president, Florentino Perez.

In a statement, the Spanish giants called him "one of the most transcendental players in one of the most significant and successful periods in our history."

"Real Madrid are and always will be his home, and we wish him and all his family the best of luck in this new chapter of his life," it added.

Casemiro played alongside current United stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in the Spanish capital.

His arrival will fill a void in Ten Hag's midfield after his prolonged pursuit of De Jong ended in failure. Casemiro's wealth of experience and success at the highest level will make him a certain starter instead of either Fred or Scott McTominay in central midfield.

He is unlikely to be available for United's next match against arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday. Instead, Casemiro's debut could come at Southampton in the Premier League on August 27.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson defended Ryan Giggs after he was called in as a character witness during the ongoing assault case against the ex-United player. Giggs has been accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, 38. He has also been charged with using controlling&nbsp;and coercive behaviour against Greville.

Recently, Greville had opened up on her nightmarish relationship with 48-year-old Giggs and accused him of throwing her out of their hotel room naked in Dubai in 2017. Greville also accused Giggs&nbsp;of sending threatening messages and emails to her and her employers about her sexual behaviour.

Ferguson, who played an instrumental role in Giggs' rise as a player at Manchester United, described the former Wales star as someone with a 'fantastic temperament'. The legendary former Manchester United manager also said everyone at the club looked up to Giggs as the 'number one' for the way he dealt with the criticism from Ferguson.

"To have a career as long as he had in a difficult position, in terms of energy, he fulfilled everything we ever wished for," Ferguson said about Giggs. "Everyone looked at Ryan Giggs as the number one," he added.

When asked if he ever saw Giggs lose his temper or behave aggressively, Ferguson said 'No'. The former Manchester United manager claimed Giggs was one of the players who would handle criticism well despite being on the receiving hand of some harsh words from the manager.

When I lost my temper, I would use Ryan as an example. He would get the sharp end of my tongue, but I knew he could take it. Other players would sit up and think, ‘If Ryan can take it, we can all take it.’”

“He was the best example I’ve had at any club. Everyone looked at Ryan as the number one,” Ferguson told the judges at the Manchester Crown Court where he stood in the witness box in the ongoing case involving his former player.

Soon-to-be former teammates Luka Modric and Toni Kroos recently penned their thoughts down in a letter that they sent to Casemiro ahead of his transfer to Manchester United to bid him farewell. In the letter, they also managed to send his would-be teammates at Old Trafford a warning about his work ethic, which they described as exhaustive.

Kroos hilariously recalled instances where Casemiro's infectious enthusiasm for exercise and work would weigh heavy on him and others the Brazilian managed to rope in. He fondly looked back at the time Casemiro was extremely close to turning a Turkish bath into a well-equipped gym. He also bid him all the best for his future as he prepares to&nbsp;turn&nbsp;over a new leaf in England.

Modric, on the other hand, harked back at the times he shared laughs and light moments with the Brazilian midfielder on the training ground. He waxed lyrical about Casemiro's ability to lighten the mood in the tensest situations.

"We have won a lot together, but I keep the moments that nobody sees. With the day-to-day work in Valdebebas (Madrid's training ground). And especially with the jokes, because you have always been in a good mood, even in moments of tension or when there were failures. Those laughs with you gave me peace of mind," he said.

In what comes as a huge setback for Indian football club Gokulam Kerala FC, they will not be able to take part in the upcoming AFC Women’s Club Championship due to FIFA's recent ban on the All India Football Federation (FIFA). FIFA imposed a ban on AIFF earlier this week due to third-party interference.

The Indian sports ministry was in talks with FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to allow Gokulam Kerala to take part in the tournament as the team had already landed in Uzbekistan ahead of their game against Sogdiana Women in Qarshi. However, their efforts have gone in vain as Gokulam Kerala will not be allowed to play in the tournament.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the Indian sports ministry on Saturday (August 20) informed the club that they should return home from&nbsp;Uzbekistan. The club are now looking to make arrangements to fly back to India later today. This is a huge blow for the club as they were hoping to make it to the competition despite the ban.

FIFA imposed a ban on AIFF for 'undue influence from third parties' while also suspending the country from hosting the upcoming Women's U-17 World Cup which was scheduled to take place in India later this year. FIFA's ban also means India won't be able to take part in any international competitions and the Indian clubs will be barred from participating in any FIFA or AFC-related events.

Gokulam Kerala's women's team had already reached Uzbekistan before FIFA announced the ban on AIFF earlier this week. The club had approached the Indian sports ministry seeking a solution following which the ministry wrote to FIFA requesting them to allow the team to participate in the competition.&nbsp;

“It has requested FIFA and AFC to therefore consider allowing the team to play in the AFC Women’s Club Championship (West region) in the interest of the young players,” the Indian sports ministry said in a statement. However, their request has been turned down.

Gokulam Kerala had also written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought his intervention in the matter after the team was left stranded in Tashkent. However, FIFA's decision remains final and no Indian clubs will be allowed to participate in any AFC-governed competitions.

The former Indian football team skipper Bhaichung Bhutia recently filed his nomination for the post of the president of All India Football Federation (AIFF)&nbsp;as elections inch closer.&nbsp;

Bhutia's name was put forth by one-time national team colleague Deepak Mondal. His nomination was seconded by Madhu Kumari, who is part of the 'electoral college' as an eminent player.

The Indian footballing icon recently issued a statement regarding his nomination, expressing a tremendous amount of interest in furthering the cause of the sport in the country.

"I have filed my nomination&nbsp;as representative of eminent players. In the wake of the SC decision to allow players, I hope the players can have a chance to serve Indian football. We want to show we can be good not only as players but also as administrators," Bhutia told the media.

However, Bhutia is faced with stiff competition from a myriad of worthy rivals, all vying for the prestigious office, including&nbsp;Football Delhi president Shaji Prabhakaran and&nbsp;West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's brother Ajit Banerjee.

Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who is a former player also filed his nomination through&nbsp;the Meghalaya Football Association. It is interesting to note that Lyngdoh is currently serving as an MLA in the legislative assembly of Meghalaya.&nbsp;

Bhutia's strongest challenger will perhaps be former player&nbsp;Kalyan Chaubey, who is currently one of the front runners to take over the role at the helm of the AIFF. Keeping with its athlete-first approach, the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports has reached out to both the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to allow Indian club sides, Sree Gokulam Kerala FC and ATK Mohun Bagan, compete in the tournaments as scheduled.

Before the FIFA suspension of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) was announced, Sree Gokulam Kerala FC had already reached Uzbekistan, ahead of its scheduled matches against a team from Iran on August 23 and one from the host nation on August 26 in the southern Uzbekistan city of Qarshi, while ATK Mohun Bagan is slated to play the AFC Cup 2022 (Inter-Zone semifinals) on September 7 in Bahrain.

In its email to FIFA and AFC, the sports ministry has highlighted the fact that Sree Gokulam Kerala FC was already in Uzbekistan when FIFA's suspension of AIFF was announced. It has requested FIFA and AFC to therefore consider allowing the team to play in the AFC Women's Club Championship (West region) in the interest of the young players.

The ministry has also reached out to the Indian embassy in Uzbekistan to extend&nbsp;&nbsp; assistance to the team in all possible ways. The ministry is also in constant touch with the Gokulam team's management. The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing till August 22 on a plea relating to suspension by the international football governing body FIFA of the All India Football Federation based on a request by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who appeared for the central government.

Mehta told the apex court that considering several factors about what can be done, the Centre on Tuesday had taken up the matter with FIFA and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) also played a key role and there is some breaking of the ice. Supreme Court asked the Centre to take proactive measures to ensure the holding of the Under 17 World Cup and lifting the suspension of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Late Monday night, the world football governing body FIFA announced that it had suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect. FIFA cited "undue interference by third party", referring to a Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) to handle the daily affairs of the AIFF, as the cause for suspending India. The suspension means no Indian team, club or country, can play international matches.

"The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes," FIFA said in a statement.

This is the first time the All India Football Federation has been banned by FIFA in its 85-year existence, with the Bureau of the FIFA Council stating there have been "flagrant violations of the FIFA Statutes". Crucially, India will lose hosting rights of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, scheduled to kick off on October 11, 2022.

Liverpool frontman Jurgen Klopp recently called out former Aston Villa striker&nbsp;Gabby Agbonlahor for the way he criticised Manchester United for their humiliating 4-0 loss at the hands of Brentford F.C. He admitted he was extremely close to filing a complaint against the former attacker.&nbsp;

Agbonlahor offered a scathing review of United's 'amateurish' performance at the Brentford Community Stadium. He also questioned the athletic aptitude of players like Christian Eriksen, David De Gea and&nbsp;Lisandro Martinez. These comments, however, did not go down too well with Klopp, as he admitted that United had suffered a tough week and refused to take anything away from Brentford.

In addition, the former Barcelona and PSG star admitted that Jesus will lead Arsenal's charge in making a comeback to European football. He went as far as to declare that Jesus could lead the Gunners to make a sensational run at the Premier League title this season.

‘Never shown the love’- Ronaldinho on Gabriel Jesus’ experience at Manchester City compared to Arsenal

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Mike Dean, who was on-call during Chelsea's Week 2 clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, which ended in a stalemate at 2-2, accepted that he made the wrong call during the hair-pulling incident involving Cristian Romero and&nbsp;Marc Cucurella. He opted to let the incident pass shortly before Spurs slotted in their late equaliser, ensuring that the point haul was shared at the end of the match.&nbsp;

The veteran official admitted that he should have called upon the on-field referee Anthony Taylor to review footage of the incident on the pitch-side monitor to form his own opinion regarding the same.

"I could not award a free kick as VAR, but I could recommend to Taylor that he visit the referee review area to consider a possible red card. In the few seconds I had to study Romero pulling Cucurella's hair, I didn't deem it a violent act. I've since studied the footage, spoken to other referees and, upon reflection, I should have asked Taylor to visit his pitch-side monitor to take a look for himself. The referee on field always has the final say."

It is interesting to note that this incident was not the only controversial moment in the action-packed match. Tottenham's first goal, which was scored by&nbsp;Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, was also an extremely contentious matter, with several complaints suggesting that the goal should have been disallowed owing to the supposed foul on Kai Havertz in the build-up of the play. In addition, claims were made regarding a potential offside offence against striker Richarlison.

While discussing the matter, Dean stood resolute in favor of his decision, claiming that Rodrigo Bentancur's potential foul on Kai Havertz took place outside the attacking phase of play. He further dismissed claims, suggesting that Richarlison was interfering with&nbsp;Edouard Mendy's field of vision from an offside position, declaring that the Chelsea goalkeeper had a view of the ball.

Under Bruno Lage, Wolves have become a major threat for the big teams, often causing upsets. However, it is Lage's solid playing style that relies on defensive solidity that has brought critical acclaim.&nbsp;

Nunes is expected to play the crucial number eight role and his quality on the ball is expected to help the wolves dictate games from the midfield.

Apart from being good with the ball on his feet, Nunes is an excellent ball-carrier, something that the Wolves had been missing last season. His defensive capabilities are second to none and he could slot easily into the first playing XI.&nbsp;

For a long time, Nunes was expected to move to Merseyside. The plethora of injuries at Liverpool further added fuel to the rumours that Jurgen Klopp might finally authorise the signing of a midfielder, expected to strengthen a squad where a quality no. 8 has been missing.&nbsp;

However, after Liverpool didn't further their interest, Wolves swooped in and within a few days completed the deal.&nbsp;

'Of 100 news I made...': Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence over his situation at Man United, to expose 'lies'

Former footballer Ryan&nbsp;Giggs&nbsp;admitted Tuesday to being unfaithful in all his past romantic relationships but denied ever being violent towards partners, as he gave evidence over charges of assault and coercive control of an ex-girlfriend.

Taking the stand for the first time in his week-old trial, the Manchester United legend denied physically assaulting former partner, PR agent Kate Greville, nearly two years ago or controlling her during their rocky years-long relationship.

But under questioning from his own lawyer, the 48-year-old admitted to a lifetime of infidelity, agreeing that he was "a flirt by nature" and unable to "resist" pursuing attractive women despite being married or in a relationship.

Giggs&nbsp;is on trial at Manchester Crown Court over claims he subjected 36-year-old Greville to a "litany of abuse, both physical and psychological" which included headbutting her in the face as she tried to end their relationship.

The former coach of the Wales national team, whose career has been upended by the charges, faces a five-year jail term if convicted.

As the prosecution rested its case Tuesday morning, jurors heard details from a hand-written prepared statement he gave to police after he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Greville and her sister, Emma, in November 2020.

In it, he described a tussle between the trio over a mobile phone during which&nbsp;Giggs&nbsp;said he "may have caught her and her sister".

"But at no time was there any attempt to harm either of them," the statement added.

<h2>- 'Rollercoaster-type relationship' -</h2>

Giggs&nbsp;said the pair's more than four-year relationship -- which began while he was married to the mother of his two children -- had its "ups and downs". "Despite allegations of violence, I often walk away from incidents," the former footballer insisted in the police statement, adding: "I would never react with violence".

He also told officers in another later statement, which was also read in court: "I will not accept that my behaviour towards my former partner has been in any way controlling or coercive".

During several hours of afternoon testimony from the witness box which charted the course of their "rollercoaster-type relationship",&nbsp;Giggs&nbsp;denied threatening to release certain images or video of Greville in a bid to emotionally blackmail her.

He told the court he had "never" shared any private photos or videos, insisting that he would never share such material. The trial continues Wednesday.&nbsp; A dazzling teenage talent,&nbsp;Giggs&nbsp;ended his career at Old Trafford as the most-decorated player in English football history.&nbsp;

As a player, he made a club-record 963 appearances over 23 years for Manchester United, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies. He then began his coaching career at Old Trafford, taking temporary charge at the end of the 2013/14 season after David Moyes was sacked, before working as an assistant to Louis van Gaal for two years.&nbsp;

Giggs&nbsp;was appointed Wales boss in January 2018 and helped them secure qualification for Euro 2020, just their second major tournament appearance since the 1958 World Cup.&nbsp;

In it, he described a tussle between the trio over a mobile phone during which Giggs said he "may have caught her and her sister". "But at no time was there any attempt to harm either of them," the statement added. "Despite allegations of violence, I often walk away from incidents," the former footballer insisted in the police statement, adding: "I would never react with violence". He also told officers in another later statement, which was also read in court: "I will not accept that my behaviour towards my former partner has been in any way controlling or coercive". During several hours of afternoon testimony from the witness box which charted the course of their "rollercoaster-type relationship", Giggs denied threatening to release certain images or video of Greville in a bid to emotionally blackmail her. He told the court he had "never" shared any private photos or videos, insisting that he would never share such material. The trial continues Wednesday. A dazzling teenage talent, Giggs ended his career at Old Trafford as the most-decorated player in English football history. As a player, he made a club-record 963 appearances over 23 years for Manchester United, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies. He then began his coaching career at Old Trafford, taking temporary charge at the end of the 2013/14 season after David Moyes was sacked, before working as an assistant to Louis van Gaal for two years. Giggs was appointed Wales boss in January 2018 and helped them secure qualification for Euro 2020, just their second major tournament appearance since the 1958 World Cup.

Intravenous drips, which were previously considered to be the last resort for those athletes suffering from anaemia and/or severe hydration issues,&nbsp;are seemingly threatening to become the norm among athletes in&nbsp;world sports. Medical experts and physiologists have come out in hordes to warn athletes against placing their trust in a practice that may not have any&nbsp;benefits as there is hardly any strong evidence to back the same.

Some footballers, basketball players and baseball players playing for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and the Americas have taken up the practice of intravenous drips, using them multiple times a week as part of their pre or post-game routine.

However, there is currently no evidence to support this theory.&nbsp;

The excessive use of this practice forced a legion of doctors, some belonging to Premier League bigwigs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, to urge players to maintain a healthy diet before pricking themselves with needles for nutrition.

While there are no hard stats revealing exactly how many athletes rely on IV drips, anecdotal evidence accumulated by the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that some players use them before or after every match, with blood work of a myriad of athletes revealing an excess of nutrients associated with the said drips.

"IVN [nutrition] products are often used as a means of addressing tiredness, fatigue, or recovery, but the evidence is sparse and not supportive. The long-term effects of supratherapeutic doses of B vitamins and other nutrients are unknown in athletes. It does not appear to be worth the risk, especially given the lack of evidence-based benefits," read the study conducted by the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

The practice which was once exclusive to costly clinics is now readily available, with some companies offering the service of home delivery. Medical experts have warned of multiple side effects that can be caused by extensive use of IV drips, including but not exclusive to, long-term liver and nerve damage.

Manchester United have had a disastrous start to the ongoing Premier League season under new manager Erik Ten Hag, who arrived at the club from Dutch side Ajax earlier this summer. Ten Hag has signed up for arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career so far, but finds himself in troubled waters just a couple of games into his first season at the club.

The Dutch manager had massive optimism surrounding his arrival after United showed glimpses of brilliant football Ten Hag is known for, during their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. But the buoyancy was a short-lived one as back-to-back losses against Brighton and Brentford in the first two games of the season pushed United to the bottom of the table.

United were shambolic in defence and far from clinical in attack as the lack of quality in the squad was crystal clear on the pitch during their defeats against Brighton and Brentford. While they were expected to kick off the new season with new vigour after a dismal campaign last season, Ten Hag's men looked completely out of sorts in the two defeats which have served as an eye-opener.

But the problems at United are clear and obvious. They are far beyond Ten Hag's reach as the club's owners — The Glazer family — are to be blamed for bringing down the English football giants. Deservingly, the Glazers find themselves at the receiving end of massive criticism from fans, experts and former players alike after United's terrible start.

In their 17 years of ownership of United, the Glazers have made some awful footballing decisions; they have failed to install a proper hierarchy at the club to run the footballing side of their ‘commercial’ venture, and instead of pumping in money to strengthen the squad over the years, have put the club under mounting debt while also enjoying annual dividends.
&nbsp;

The Glazers have been accused of leaving Manchester United&nbsp;'to rot' while they continue to milk money out of the most successful club in the history of English football. So much so, that the fans, former players and experts have had enough and have called out the owners for 'destroying' the club in recent days.

Who are the Glazers? How did they buy Manchester United?

Avram, Joel, Bryan, Kevin, Edward and Darcie - the six Glazer&nbsp;siblings currently own Manchester United, one of the most popular clubs in the world with a staggering fan following across the globe. Their father Malcolm Glazer, an American business tycoon, had entered the sports business for the first time when he bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in America's National Football League (NFL).

After running the Buccaneers, Glazer&nbsp;siblings Joel, Edward and Bryan set their sights on buying Manchester United. It was in 2003, that Malcolm Glazer made his first move and bought 2.9% shares of United for around $4.7 million. He kept increasing his stake and reached the coveted 30% mark which was enough to launch a full takeover bid.

The Glazers increased their stake to 58.7% after United's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson had a fall out with John Magnier and J. P. McManus, who collectively owned 28.7% shares of the club. Glazers sensed an opportunity and made the most of it as they bought the entire 28.7% stake from the duo to increase their stake while retaining Ferguson as the manager.

Their ownership soon rose to 75% before Glazers took full control of the club in 2005 for a sum of around £790 million. However, there was a catch, the Glazers didn't spend their own money to buy Manchester United and instead opted to finance the move through loans. The Glazers only spent £270m on their own financed the rest by placing the club into debt.

It was for the first time since 1931, that United, a debt-free club, was put into debt. It was the beginning of what has panned out to be a disastrous stint for the Glazers as the owners of United with success eluding the club for a number of years and fans growing impatient with every passing season as they witness their beloved football club being brought down to the ground.

One of the most profitable football clubs in the world, United had to pay interest payments of around £62 million every year after the Glazers financed their purchase of the club with a loan and put it on the United brand. Instead of hoping for new investment into the club, United found itself spending millions to pay off the debt.

Why the&nbsp;Glazers have been called 'leeches' by Manchester United fans?

Manchester United was a debt-free club till the Glazers took over in 2005 by taking a loan of around a staggering £525 million and put it on the club to pay it off. The Manchester United fans had sensed what was to come in the future and protests outside Old Trafford, the club's home ground had begun even before the Glazers' takeover was complete.

However, the protests were not as fierce as they have been in the last few years as the fans still hoped the American owners would take the club in the right direction. However, that has clearly not been the case as United, one of the top clubs in the world, has been far from challenging for major titles since the departure of Alex Ferguson.

In 2010, United's debt rose to a staggering £716.5 million which forced the club to issue bonds of around £500 million to pay it off. As per reports, United's current debt sits at around £627 million. The club has paid around £855m alone in interests which could have easily been invested into infrastructure, stadium and in improving the quality of the squad that is currently crying for reinforcements.

If the debt was not enough, from 2016 the Glazers started taking out more money as dividends for the shares they own. They have&nbsp;taken out around £154 million in dividends in the last six years and continue to fill their pockets with millions of pounds annually despite the club needing a complete rebuild from top to bottom.

All this, while not investing properly in the squad and not having a proper structure at the club to run the footballing side of it, has left the fans exhausted but louder than ever. The Glazers have been termed&nbsp;'leeches' with&nbsp;calls for the American&nbsp;owners&nbsp;to sell the club growing&nbsp;louder in the last few years than ever before due to their sheer inability to properly run one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

Have Glazers not spent money on transfers?

The Glazers had their faces saved by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in their initial years after buying United as the former manager delivered success on the pitch to paper over the cracks. However, United have not managed to win a single Premier League title ever since his departure in 2013 when the club won their last league title.

From 2005 to 2013, Manchester United had a net spend of just £164m which averages just over £20 million per season over eight years. At the same time, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and other top European clubs were spending big money in the transfer market to get the players they wanted to achieve success.

With Ferguson in charge, United's transfer howlers were majorly covered over as the legendary manager still was able to help the club win titles one after another. However, the Glazers were left exposed once Ferguson left the club as United's inability to track the best talents and bring them to Old Trafford ended up costing them on the pitch.

United have spent over £1 billion in transfers since Ferguson's departure but they have little to show for the money spent as a number of signings over the years have flopped and flopped massively at the club. The likes of&nbsp;Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku among others have all flopped at Old Trafford, exposing United's below-par recruitment and transfer strategy.

While many might argue the Glazers still have paid money, the over&nbsp; £1 billion spent on transfers since 2013 is the money generated by the club. The Glazers have not put in any investment into the club but have rather taken money out in dividends while the debt remains over&nbsp;£600 million even 17 years after the takeover.

As per Sky Sports, the Glazers' takeover of United has ended up costing the club an unbelievable&nbsp;£1.5-2 million pounds, the majority of which could have been utilised in the proper functioning of the club and ensuring it remains as successful as it was under Ferguson, who won a stunning 13 Premier League and 2 Champions League titles during his glorious stint and is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time.

Elon Musk's bluff

Amid their continuous efforts to force The Glazers to sell their beloved club for its own good, Manchester United fans saw a ray of hope when Tesla COO Elon Musk put out a tweet on Wednesday (August 17) saying he was buying the English club. Twitter was soon flooded with reactions as United fans saw light at the end of the tunnel.

However, their joy was short-lived as it was yet another bluff from Musk, who is known for his pointless tweets. The world's richest person was quick to clarify in another tweet&nbsp;that it was just a joke and that he is not planning on buying a sports team. However, Musk insisted if he were&nbsp;to buy a sports team it will be United, as the club was his favourite in childhood.

"No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams," Musk said in his tweet replying to a user, who asked him if he was serious about buying the English club.&nbsp;

"Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid," he said in another.

There is no question&nbsp;that Musk has all the resources that he would need to buy Manchester United, but the club's problems run deeper and it is in dire need of an owner, who would be willing to be invested in sorting out the underlying issues at Old Trafford. And as of now, Musk isn't United's saviour as he is not interested in buying the Premier League giants.

Musk, who had recently pulled out of a deal to buy social media giant&nbsp;Twitter after being denied information he sought, would be in for an even bigger challenge at United if he opts to buy the sleeping giants of English football, who might be up for sale sooner rather than later as the Glazers, who value the club at&nbsp;£4 billion might give in one day amid&nbsp;the mounting pressure from all corners.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville had perfectly put in on Sky Sports last week when he called out the Glazers urging them to sell the club while slamming them for their awful ownership.

“There is a family in America that is letting its employees take the blame. They need to get on a plane to Manchester and explain what the plan is. We never will have the Glazers here," said Neville, who played a staggering 602 matches for United.

“The only money that has been spent on players has been generated by the club. The Glazers have borrowed and used the revenue the club generates through its amazing fanbase.”

“My point is there has been a toxic culture at this club for the last 10 years since Alex Ferguson and (CEO) David Gill left. It’s a mess. And it cannot continue to go on. The embedded failure over a ten-year period has to come back to the owner. I blamed (CEO Ed) Woodward for a long time but the Glazers left him in situ," he added.

Also Read: Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence over his situation at Man United, to expose 'lies' The Glazers have been accused of leaving Manchester United 'to rot' while they continue to milk money out of the most successful club in the history of English football. So much so, that the fans, former players and experts have had enough and have called out the owners for 'destroying' the club in recent days. Who are the Glazers? How did they buy Manchester United? Avram, Joel, Bryan, Kevin, Edward and Darcie - the six Glazer siblings currently own Manchester United, one of the most popular clubs in the world with a staggering fan following across the globe. Their father Malcolm Glazer, an American business tycoon, had entered the sports business for the first time when he bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in America's National Football League (NFL). After running the Buccaneers, Glazer siblings Joel, Edward and Bryan set their sights on buying Manchester United. Also Read: 'Not buying any sports team' - Elon Musk clarifies after claiming he is going to buy Manchester United Why the Glazers have been called 'leeches' by Manchester United fans? They have taken out around £154 million in dividends in the last six years and continue to fill their pockets with millions of pounds annually despite the club needing a complete rebuild from top to bottom. All this, while not investing properly in the squad and not having a proper structure at the club to run the footballing side of it, has left the fans exhausted but louder than ever. The Glazers have been termed 'leeches' with calls for the American owners to sell the club growing louder in the last few years than ever before due to their sheer inability to properly run one of the biggest football clubs in the world. Indian football suffered a big dent on Monday (August 15) as the sport's apex governing body, FIFA, suspended&nbsp;the Indian federation with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties. Thus, this is a major setback for Indian football as the decision means that they won't be able to&nbsp;host the 2022 Under-17 Women's FIFA World Cup, to be played in the country from October 11-30.

"The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes.' said the body in its statement.&nbsp;

"The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs." added FIFA.&nbsp;

What does the ban mean for India?

Losing&nbsp;the hosting rights for the forthcoming U-17 Women's World Cup is a huge blow in itself. However, there are more woes for Indian football following FIFA's latest ban. Whether it the Indian men's or the women's national teams, none of them can play against other national football teams even at the age-group levels. In addition, the decision makes the Indian football clubs not eligible to take part in AFC Women Club Championship, AFC Cup and&nbsp;the&nbsp;AFC Champions League competitions.

The only breather is that&nbsp;domestic competitions such as the Indian Super League and the I-League&nbsp;can proceed as per&nbsp;schedule.

How can the ban be lifted?

Following the big decision, FIFA has explained the due process to the AIFF. Thus, the ball is in AIFF's court as the&nbsp;ban will be lifted once the Indian football federation falls in lieu of the FIFA Statutes.

FIFA suspends AIFF with immediate effect: All you need to know about the ban and how it can be lifted

Crystal Palace star Joachim Anderson has been receiving disgusting abusive messages and death threats on social media after he was headbutted by Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez in the Premier League clash between the two sides on Monday. Nunez received a red card and was sent off after headbutting Anderson in the 57th minute of the game.

Anderson and Nunez were involved in some heated duels on the field during the game. The duo clashed on several occasions before Nunez decided to headbutt the Crystal Palace defender to receive his marching orders. While Anderson was clearly successful in rattling Nunez, who is still adapting to the Premier League after joining the club from Benfica this summer, he was clearly wrong in head-butting the defender.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also agreed Nunez was at fault and should not have reacted the way he did.&nbsp;“A little provocation here and there – and definitely the wrong reaction. A clear red card, I cannot deny that," Klopp said. The situation could have easily been avoided had Nunez maintained his calm.

Joachim Anderson receives death threats online after getting headbutted by Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez

Tuesday (August 16) will go down as the 'Black Day' in the Indian football folklore after the All India Football Federation (AIFF)'s embarrassing crisis finally turned into a nightmare with decisive action from FIFA. The interference of the Supreme Court of India proved costly for the Indian football board as the apex world governing body FIFA decided to ban AIFF with immediate effect due to 'undue influence from third parties'.

FIFA has always maintained a strict stance against any third-party interference in the running of a national football federation and it had issued a prior warning to the AIFF before putting the final nail in the coffin on Tuesday. However, the Supreme Court-appointed committee of administrators (CoA) probably underestimated the gravity of the situation leading to the ban.

The threat of a potential ban from FIFA was looming ever since the ouster of former AIFF president Praful Patel, who was removed after he held the office despite completing his term. SC appointed a CoA to run the day-to-day affairs at the board which was a violation of FIFA's statutes.

The ban can prove to be catastrophic for Indian football and the ripple effects can be felt in the long term as well. It can cause way more damage than anticipated as India stands at not only losing the hosting rights of the upcoming FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup but also all clubs from the country will be barred from participating in any AFC or FIFA-governed competitions.

What FIFA's ban on AIFF means for Indian football?

The ban from FIFA means all Indian football teams across age groups won't be able to take part in any tournament at the international level. The Indian men's team was set to play two friendlies against&nbsp;Vietnam (September 24) and Singapore (September 27)&nbsp; later this year but the matches stand cancelled unless the ban is revoked.

India has also lost the hosting rights of the upcoming FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup 2022. After successfully delivering the men's U-17 World Cup in 2017, the country was expected to stage another spectacle this year. However, with just two months left for the tournament, the ban has cost India the hosting rights.

None of the Indian cubs will now be allowed to take part in any FIFA or AFC-related tournaments. Indian club Gokulam Kerala women are scheduled to play their AFC Women's Club Championship opener against Sogdiana-W in Qarshi in Uzbekistan. However, the match stands suspended if AIFF's ban is not revoked at the earliest.

ATK Mohun Bagan are also likely to face a huge setback as they were scheduled to play the AFC Cup Inter-Zonal semi-finals on September 7. However, now they won't be able to take part in the competition due to the ban from FIFA. India can continue conducting its domestic leagues ISL and I-League without any issues but they won't be recognised by AFC or FIFA.

"AIFF representatives and club teams are therefore no longer entitled to take part in the international competition until the suspension is lifted.This also means that neither the AIFF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA and/or the AFC," FIFA said in its letter to AIFF.

The ban will also see AIFF lose on the financial front as the Indian football body will no more be eligible to receive any grants from FIFA. The world body reportedly issues a grant of around USD 50,000 annually for AIFF which will be revoked if the ban stays for long.

Dire consequences! What FIFA's ban on AIFF means for Indian football

Manchester United are now reportedly open to letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave this summer after having maintained for weeks that the Portuguese forward was not for sale. Despite Ronaldo having expressed his desire to leave the club, United's stance was that he was not for sale and would see out the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

However, as per a report in BBC, United could let the Portuguese star leave in the ongoing transfer window as his mood is affecting the morale of the rest of the squad. Ronaldo is said to be a 'negative presence at the club and he hardly communicates with his teammates in the canteen.

As per BBC, sources suggest that United might be willing to let him go even if they were not to find any replacement for him in the current transfer window as many at the club believe his departure will uplift the morale of the players. This comes after United suffered two humiliating defeats in their first two games of the season against Brighton and Brentford, respectively.

While Brighton beat United 2-1, Brentford handed the Red Devils a proper thrashing in a comprehensive 4-0 win at home. United looked clueless in the remainder of the first half after a mistake from David de Gea saw Brentford take the lead in the 10th minute before scoring three more inside the next 25 minutes to extend their lead to 4-0.

It was a dismal show from the United players, who clearly struggled against Brentford's energetic and intense high pressing. The back-to-back defeats in the Premier League have quickly wiped out any optimism United had regained after a good pre-season and the majority of the blame has been put on Ronaldo.

Earlier this summer, there were reports that Ronaldo had informed United of his desire to leave citing the lack of Champions League football and their inactivity in the transfer market. The Portuguese is still actively looking for a move away from the club as he wants to spend the final few years of his career fighting for major titles.

Ronaldo had rejoined United from Juventus last summer and went on to notch up 18 goals for the club in the Premier League. However, his heroics were not enough to help United finish in the top four as they ended up finishing a lowly sixth to miss out on a spot in the Champions League. While Ronaldo has expressed his desire to leave, no top club in Europe has shown any interest in buying the 37-year-old.

Cristiano Ronaldo 'negative presence' at Manchester United, club open to letting him leave - Report

The Centre on Tuesday sought an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court on the All India Football Federation matter in the wake of FIFA suspending India for "undue influence from third parties" and stripping the country of the right to host the Under-17 Women's World Cup.

The country is scheduled to host the FIFA tournament from October 11-30. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna was told by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, that "important development"&nbsp;has taken place and FIFA has sent a letter suspending India which is in public domain and needs to be brought on record.

The bench told Mehta that the matter is listed for Wednesday and it would try to take it up as a first matter.
Mehta said FIFA was in Geneva and it has taken certain decisions which are important developments for the country and need to be brought before the court.

"I request that the AIFF matter pending before the court be urgently heard", he said.

India was on Tuesday suspended by world governing body FIFA for "undue influence from third parties" and stripped the country of the right to host the Under-17 Women's World Cup, scheduled for October.

This is the first time that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been banned by FIFA in its 85-year-old history.
A ban on India was on the cards after the Supreme Court removed Praful Patel as AIFF president on May 18 for not holding elections due in December 2020.

The court had appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), headed by former apex court judge AR Dave, to manage the affairs of the national federation.

&nbsp;The CoA, which has former Chief Commissioner of India SY Quraishi and ex-India captain Bhaskar Ganguly as other members, also had to frame its constitution in line with the National Sports Code and model guidelines.
