Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the England batting line-up as India thrashed the hosts by ten wickets in the 1st ODI of the ongoing three-match series on Tuesday (July 12). Bumrah was on fire with the ball as he ran through the English batting line-up and returned with his career-best ODI figures of 6/19 in his 7.2 overs. It was an exceptional spell from Bumrah, who single-handedly dismantled England.

Bumrah got rid of England opener Jason Roy on a duck to draw the first blood for India in the match before dismissing the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, David Willey and Brydon Carse to complete his six-wicket haul as England were skittled out for a paltry 110 runs.

Former England captain Nasser Hussian heaped praise on Bumrah during commentary and called him the best all-format bowler in the world. England captain Jos Buttler was asked about Hussain's comment on Bumrah by a reporter during the post-match presser after his team's loss.

Buttler went on to praise Bumrah before being left irked by the reporter's repeated question about the Indian pacer.

"There's no doubt that he's a fantastic bowler. He's been one of the leading bowlers in the world for a number of years now. And it looks like he's going from strength to strength. That's the great challenge of playing against India, you get to face these fantastic bowlers and batsmen," said Buttler when the reporter asked him to share his views on Hussain's 'best all-format bowler' comment for Bumrah.

"That's why you want to play international cricket to challenge yourself against the best. No doubt he's one of the best and we look forward to the challenge again on Thursday to try and get the better of him," he added.

However, the reporter was not satisfied with Buttler's answer to his query and asked him once again if he meant Bumrah is the best or one of the best in the world. Buttler was left irked by the second question and told the reporter to decide that himself.

"But you still didn't answer my question, is he the best or he's one of the best?" - the reporter asked Buttler. "You decide," responded the England captain leaving the reporters in the press conference in splits.

'You decide': England captain Jos Buttler irked by reporter's question on Jasprit Bumrah after 6-wicket haul

England cricket team's new approach in Test cricket has been hailed by many as it continues to deliver results for them on a consistent basis. England are currently unbeaten in their last four Test matches at home after thrashing India by seven wickets in the recently-concluded rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England were ruthless with the bat as they comfortably chased down the target of 378 runs to deny India a historic Test series win.

India were favourites ahead of the start of England's second innings in the game after handing them a tricky target of 378 runs. However, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root slammed unbeaten tons as the hosts dominated the proceedings to pull off their highest-ever run-chase in Test history.

England have been enjoying a dominant run in the whites ever since the arrival of new Test coach Brendon McCullum and star all-rounder Ben Stokes taking over as captain of the red-ball team. They have now chased down targets in excess of 250 runs in their last four Tests and their aggressive approach with the bat has wowed many.

England's new approach in Tests has been famously labelled as 'Bazball' in reference to head coach McCullum's nickname Baz. Recently, Australia batter Steve Smith was asked about 'Bazball' and he came up with an interesting reply while also issuing a warning to England.

Smith said he is intrigued to see how long will 'Bazball' work for England in the longest format and if their approach will be the same when they face Aussie quicks Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Star and Pat Cummins in tandem when facing Australia.

"It's been exciting, I'm just intrigued to see how long it lasts, if it's sustainable," Smith told on the eve of Australia's 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday (July 06)

"If you come on a wicket that's got some grass on it and Josh Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc are rolling in at you, is it going to be the same? We'll see what happens," he added.

Smith revealed that Australian players have been joking about 'Bazball' in the dressing room and that Australia's new head coach Andrew McDonald has already had enough of the term. The Former Australian skipper also admitted he has himself watched England's new approach and has been entertained by it.

"Guys just keep joking about it - I think Ronnie [McDonald] has had enough of hearing about Bazball to be honest, it's good fun to joke about," Smith said.

"I've watched a little bit of it, it's certainly been entertaining, they're coming out playing their shots. Even someone like Alex Lees started to come down the wicket when he was on nothing really, to play the way he played," he added.

England script history in Edgbaston: A look at records broken by Stokes & Co. with emphatic win over India

England defeated India by seven wickets in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston on Tuesday (July 05) to deny the visitors a historic Test series victory. England chased down a tricky target of 378 runs with ease riding on centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. Root and Bairstow slammed respective tons and shared an unbeaten stand of 269 runs for the fourth wicket to take the hosts over the line.

It was an action-packed encounter filled with a lot of drama and emotions as both India and England gave their all in the all-important game. While there were several instances of players sledging each other, England pacer Stuart Broad was on the receiving end of some harsh words from the umpire&nbsp;Richard Kettleborough during England's first innings.

The incident happened when Broad was facing Bumrah during England's second innings and the Indian pacer bowled two back-to-back bouncers against him. Broad ducked the second bouncer which went for a four after flying over Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant's head. He was then spotted having a discussion with the on-field umpire Kettleborough trying to find out if it was a second bouncer for the over.

WATCH: Umpire tells Stuart Broad to 'shut up' and get on with his batting after his antics against India

After four pulsating days of cricket in Edgbaston, Birmingham, India and England will gear up for the five-match Test series' final day on Tuesday (July 05). In a series which has lasted for a year, with the&nbsp;final Test being rescheduled by more than ten months, both sides still have all to play for with the scoreline 2-1 in favour of India.

While India will turn up on the 22-yard cricket pitch with only 119 more runs to defend, in defence of 378, Ben Stokes &amp; Co. will start as favourites being well-placed at 259-3 courtesy of an unbroken 150-run fourth-wicket stand between half-centurions Joe Root (76*) and Jonny Bairstow (72 not out). Here's how the weather is expected to hold up for the final day's play:

According to&nbsp;the&nbsp;AccuWeather, there's&nbsp;about only 4 percent chance of rain at Edgbaston during the day time. The sky would, however, be partly covered by clouds. Hence, if India are to win the contest, Jasprit Bumrah &amp; Co. will have to buckle up and be at their very best to trigger a collapse of the English batting line-up on Day 5

India have dominated the final Test in Edgbaston, Birmingham. After posting 416, they managed to dismiss England for 284. Bumrah &amp; Co., however, couldn't bat England out of contest after being dismissed for 245, setting up a challenging 378-run target. While it remains a big score, the visitors missed the chance of posting a target above 450 and apply more presure on the English batting line-up. Will Stokes-led hosts resorting to an aggressive approach with the bat nowadays, they have given India a lot to think about before the final day's play.

After four pulsating days of cricket in Edgbaston, Birmingham, India and England will gear up for the five-match Test series' final day on Tuesday (July 05). In a series which has lasted for a year, with the final Test being rescheduled by more than ten months, both sides still have all to play for with the scoreline 2-1 in favour of India.

While India will turn up on the 22-yard cricket pitch with only 119 more runs to defend, in defence of 378, Ben Stokes & Co. will start as favourites being well-placed at 259-3 courtesy of an unbroken 150-run fourth-wicket stand between half-centurions Joe Root (76*) and Jonny Bairstow (72 not out). Here's how the weather is expected to hold up for the final day's play: According to the AccuWeather, there's about only 4 percent chance of rain at Edgbaston during the day time. The sky would, however, be partly covered by clouds. The chances of rain are still fairly slim. England vs India, 5th Test: How will the weather hold up on Day 5 of series finale in Edgbaston?

There was a lot of drama and action during Day 3 of the ongoing Edgbaston Test between India and England. Resuming the day at 83-5, trailing India's 416 by 333 runs, England were on the back foot. With India well and truly on top in the series decider, former skipper Virat Kohli sledged Jonny Bairstow at the start of the day, which made heads turn, when the latter said something to him between overs.

Despite Bairstow slamming his third&nbsp;ton, in successive&nbsp;Tests, India ended up with a healthy 132-run lead. The onus fell on Kohli, who came out to bat in India's second essay at 43-2. The Barmy Army, England cricket's fans, were all set to settle scores with King Kohli and taunted him with 'Cheerio' chants after the right-hander fell for a 40-ball 20.&nbsp;

Jos Buttler has been appointed England`s new limited-overs captain following the retirement of Eoin Morgan, the country`s cricket board (ECB) said on Thursday. The 31-year-old, who had been Morgan`s deputy since 2015, has played 151 one-day internationals and 88 Twenty20s for England after making his international debut in 2011.

Morgan retired from international cricket on Tuesday after battling form and fitness issues in recent months.&nbsp;
"Jos has been part of our white-ball set-up for over a decade and was integral in the transformation of the way the team has played its attacking brand of cricket," said Rob Key, managing director of the England men`s team.

"I believe the extra responsibility will take his game to a new level and inspire those around him." Among the most-feared big hitters in the limited-overs game, Buttler has been in devastating form, smashing 248 runs in two innings in the recent 3-0 ODI series rout of the Netherlands.

He also finished top scorer in the Indian Premier League T20 competition, notching up 863 runs, including four centuries, for the Rajasthan Royals as the franchise made the final. "I would like to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to Eoin Morgan for his outstanding leadership over the past seven years. It has been the most memorable period for everyone involved," Buttler said in a statement.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has a big void to fill as he sets out to build on Morgan`s impressive legacy. His predecessor led the team to the 50-over World Cup title in 2019 and turned them into a white-ball powerhouse, ending as England`s most successful ODI captain.

"He has been an inspirational leader, and it has been fantastic to play under him. There are lots of things that I have learnt from him that I`ll take into this role," added Buttler. Buttler`s first assignment as skipper will be a three-match T20 series against India starting July 7. His first big test will come in the form of the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

Start of a new era! Jos Buttler replaces Eoin Morgan as England's white-ball captain

England defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the third and final Test on Tuesday (May 28) to complete a 3-0 whitewash against the Black Caps at home. It was a thrilling contest between the two sides as England chased down the target of 296 runs comfortably in the second innings riding on brilliant knocks from Ollie Pope (82), Joe Root (86) and Jonny Bairstow (71) to record their third win on the trot and clean sweep the three-match rubber.

While the cricketing action was intense and enthralling, the match was marred with controversy as a fight broke between a group of fans at Headingley. There was a brawl in the stands and the fans were seen throwing punches at each other. The incident happened on Day 4 of the Test match on Sunday on the Western Terrace at Headingley.

A man wearing a replica of England great Paul Gascoigne's jersey was seen throwing punches at another fan in the stands. Others too joined in and it turned into a full-blown fight soon as punches were exchanged from both parties resulting in police intervention. The fans had to be separated by the police as the fight was stopped.

On Tuesday evening (June 28), Eoin Morgan confirmed his international retirement. The 35-year-old was struggling with form for the past one year and fitness concerns had even raised question marks on his avaliability for England ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Thus, speculations were rife that the swashbuckling left-hander was set to call it quits soon before he himself confirmed all reports.

"To call time on what has been without doubt the most enjoyable and rewarding chapter of my career hasn't been an easy decision, but I believe now is the right time to do so, both for me, personally, and for both England white-ball sides I have led to this point," said Morgan in a statement issued by the England Cricket Board (ECB).

Thus, Morgan has left a huge void in England cricket as the Irish-born cricketer revamped England's white-ball sides and led them to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019. Playing under him for a long period, the Three Lions' all-rounder Moeen Ali shed light on the captaincy styles of Morgan and MS Dhoni, who is regarded as one of the best captains in international cricket. Moeen plays for Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL.

"I have played under him (Morgan). I have played under MS Dhoni as well. There is not much difference between both of them in terms of the characteristics - very calm, very loyal to their players. Brilliant captain, brilliant player,” Moeen said in a chat with&nbsp;Sports Today.

Moeen also credited Morgan's fearless and attacking mindset which has now been adopted by the English Test line-up, under new captain Ben Stokes. "We were horrendous in white ball cricket before that. He changed the mindset of the players. Actually, the way England are playing now in Test cricket, I believe, is actually because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now,” added&nbsp;the all-rounder.

Morgan ended his illustrious career, playing for both Ireland and England, with&nbsp;700 runs in Tests and 7,701 and 2,458 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively, including 16 tons overall.

Morgan has had a stellar career at the international level. The Irish-born swashbuckling left-hander started his career playing for Ireland before he made a switch and joined the England cricket team. Since then, his career graph has only gone up, especially since he was named the permanent limited-overs captain in 2015. Under Morgan, England revamped their playing style in coloured clothings. The Three Lions ended as the semi-finalists in the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2021 T20 World Cup, and missed out on winning the title in the 2016 T20 World Cup before lifting the trophy in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Thus, he became the first-ever England captain to lead the national side to the elusive ODI WC trophy.

Morgan amassed 700 runs in Tests and 7,701 and 2,458 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively. The left-hander has ended with a total of 16 centuries&nbsp;and his destructive approach with the bat has been hailed by many over the years.

The veteran has been struggling with form and fitness since the last year and, hence, his retirement was always on the cards. With him stepping aside, Jos Buttler is a favourite to take charge of the white-ball sides. He has served as Morgan's deputy for long.

End of an era! England's ODI WC-winning skipper Eoin Morgan confirms international retirement

England cricket team's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan is reportedly set to retire from international cricket soon and might not lead the hosts in the upcoming T20I series against India next month. Morgan has been one of the best captains to have led England and is the only skipper to have guided the side to a World Cup triumph. He has also been lauded by many over the years for transforming the way England play white-ball cricket.

England had failed to make it to the knockout stages of the ODI World Cup in 2015 following which Morgan took over the reins. England adopted an aggressive and all-out approach in white-ball cricket under Morgan and tasted huge success as their performances on the field improved significantly.

Morgan also helped the likes of Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow among others to become world-beaters in white-ball cricket and form a strong core for England in both ODIs and T20Is. England have reaped rewards from Morgan's leadership and his retirement is set to mark the end of an era for the team.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain heaped praise on Morgan after reports of his retirement from international cricket emerged on Monday (June 27). Hussain said Morgan was ahead of his time in realising the value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for English cricket and helped English players become better by encouraging them to play in the premier T20 tournament.

"He was also ahead of his time, along with Kevin Pietersen, in realising the value to English cricket of the IPL. First, he helped make better players of the likes of Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone. Then he encouraged them to play in the IPL, where they learned to be even better," Hussain wrote in his column for Daily Mail.

Morgan along with former England captain Kevin Pietersen was among the first few English players to play in the IPL despite resistance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Morgan is also England's most successful ODI skipper of all time with 76 wins in 126 ODIs and a winning percentage of 65.25.

Talking about his replacement as England's white-ball captain after his retirement, Hussain believes Jos Buttle will be the ideal candidate to take over the reins. Buttler is one of the best white-ball batters in the world at present and has been in top-notch form recently.

"Buttler is the perfect replacement. He and Morgan are close friends, and he’s stepped in the Morgan way of doing things. He'll have no problem in replicating his style of play. And there's no greater compliment than that," wrote Hussain.

England's gung-ho approach was on display on the final day of the three-match Test series versus New Zealand in the Headingley encounter. Resuming their 296-run chase on Day 5, on Monday (June 27),&nbsp;Ben Stokes-led hosts defeated Kiwis by seven wickets to inflict a series whitewash over the World Test champions.

Ending Day 4 at 183-2, England was oncourse for a 3-0 scoreline with a settled Joe Root and Ollie Pope in the middle. The duo got together with the score of 51 for 2 after NZ set up another challenging target in the series. The script remained the same for England as they recovered after a poor start and continued their relentless attack to find the gaps and keep the scoreboard ticking. Thus, the unbroken third-wicket stand was expected to guide hosts to a comfortable win.

After a delayed start to Day 5,&nbsp;due to rain, England lost Pope for 82. Despite losing the right-hander as he was nearing a triple-figure score, Root got Jonny Bairstow's company as the two found the gaps with ease and the runs kept flowing in at regular intervals. Bairstow (71 not out off 44 deliveries) slammed the second-fastest fifty by an Englishman in whites and Root remained unbeaten on 86 as England completed a whitewash.

Talking about the contest, Kiwis had opted to bat first and rode on Daryl Mitchell's third consecutive ton of the series to post 329. With England reduced to 55 for 6, the visitors fancied their chances of attaining a healthy lead but Bairstow's stroke-filled 162, off 157 balls, and all-rounder Craig Overton's 97 propelled the Three Lions to 360 all-out, leading by 31 runs.

Tom Latham's 76, captain Kane Williamson's 48, Mitchell's 56 and keeper-batter Tom Blundell's 88 helped NZ post 326 in their second essay, setting up a challenging 296-run target. Despite having a competitive total to defend, the Black Caps&nbsp;faltered yet again and failed to run through England's middle and lower order, as was the case&nbsp;in the opening two games.

Lack of runs from their top-order and having no answers to England's all-out approach with the bat resulted in Kiwis' downfall in each and every game, despite them being on top on various occasions. Stokes &amp; Co. will now gear up for the rescheduled fifth and final Test versus India, in Edgbaston, which commences on July 01. The Brendon McCullum-Stokes pair will be eager to prevent India from winning the incomplete five-match series, where they have conceded an unassailable lead to Rohit Sharma &amp; Co., and end it with a 2-2 scoreline.

England's all-out approach results in series whitewash over New Zealand, win 3rd Test by 7 wickets

Eoin Morgan, England's white-ball skipper, is considering international retirement. The veteran English captain, who led to the Three Lions' resurgence in white-ball formats, has been contemplating hanging his boots ahead of England's white-ball series versus Rohit Sharma-led India, which kicks off on July 07.

As per a report in The Guardian, Morgan has been considering stepping aside from international cricket citing poor form and injury concerns. For the unversed, the 35-year-old Irish-born cricketer has had a dismal run since the last year. In 2021, Morgan had a poor run in T20Is, averaging only 16.67. This year, he averages 15 in two T20Is. Even in the England-Netherlands three ODIs, where the English batters had a ball, Morgan returned with two ducks on the trot before missing the final match due to a groin injury. The injury seems to have been the final nail in the coffin as Morgan is now contemplating retirement.

Morgan has so far amassed 700 runs in Tests and 7,701 and 2,458 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively. The left-hander has 16 hundreds overall and is known for his destructive approach with the bat in white-ball formats. Since taking over as England captain after Alastair Cook, he has played a humongous role in revamping the playing style of the English camp in shorter formats. England's gung-ho&nbsp;approach, under Morgan, led to a lot of success for the national side in the run-up to the 2019 ODI World Cup, which they won ultimately in a riveting final.&nbsp;

Under Morgan, England also reached the semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy and ended as runners-up and semi-finalists in the last two editions of the T20 World Cup. If he retires, Jos Buttler -- serving as Morgan's deputy for long -- is likely to take charge of the white-ball sides ahead of this year's T20 World Cup, in Australia.

As per reports, Morgan is set to call it quits before England's home white-ball series versus India, which gets underway on July 07.&nbsp;

An advertisement starring late Australian cricketer Shane Warne, which continues to be used during the three-Test series between England and New Zealand, is causing dismay to several of the legend`s legion of fans, with many of them terming it "distasteful".

Warne had passed away on March 4 in Thailand, where he was vacationing, following a suspected heart-attack and his fans are nonplussed with the fact that his advertisements continue to be shown nearly four months after his demise.

The legend was given a state memorial service at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last month, which was attended by several past and present cricket legends and close friends.

"...they have also continued to use Warne, who was 52 when he died, in an advert for Advanced Hair Studio. The Aussie icon had never hidden his association with the company, but TV bosses have been slammed by viewers for their apparent ignorance," the report said.

England were without regular captain Eoin Morgan when they locked horns with a hapless Netherlands side in the third and final ODI at the&nbsp;VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on June 22 (Wednesday). Despite being without Morgan, the Jos Buttler-led side continued their merry run versus the hosts and won the series finale by eight wickets, in pursuit of a moderate 245.

After fifties from&nbsp;Max ODowd, Bas de Leede and keeper-captain Scott Edwards propelled the Netherlands to 244 all-out in 49.2 overs, England chased down the target in just 30.1 overs courtesy of Jason Roy's unbeaten 101 and stand-in skipper Buttler's 64-ball 86*. Earlier, David Willey had shined with the ball, returning with 4 for 36.

During the run-chase, Roy and Buttler shared an unbeaten 163-run third-wicket stand. While Roy struck at 117.44, Buttler was at his attacking best. He struck 7 fours and 5 sixes, with one of his maximums making heads turn. Facing pacer&nbsp;Paul van Meekeren in the 29th over, Buttler smacked a delivery for a six despite the ball landing outside the pitch. Meekeren tried a slower one but the ball got stuck in his hands and after release, Buttler pounced on the white cherry&nbsp;by showing no mercy.

England smash world record: A look at teams with highest ODI totals

England batters launched absolute carnage against Netherlands in the first ODI between the two sides at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen on Friday (June 17). It was an emphatic batting performance from Eoin Morgan's men as they shattered the world record for the highest ever score in ODI history. England posted a mammoth total of 498 runs in 50 overs against Netherlands to earn a comprehensive 232-run win in the series opener.

Jos Buttler was once again the destructor-in-chief for England as he continued his red hot form with the willow against Netherlands. Buttler came out to bat at number four and slammed a sensational knock of unbeaten 162 runs off just 70 deliveries laced with a staggering 14 sixes and seven fours.

England saw a total of three centurions in the game as opener Phil Salt and David Malan also notched up a hundred apiece. While Salt scored 122 off 93 balls Malan slammed 125 runs off 109 balls with the duo adding 222 runs for the second wicket after losing opener Jason Roy cheaply on just 1 run off 7 balls.

Livingstone took no time in launching an all-out attack against the Dutch bowlers and slammed 6 sixes and 6 fours en route to his 66 off 22.

England went on to post a humongous total of 498/4 on the board in 50 overs to smash the record for the highest ever total in ODIs. England held the record previously for their 481 runs against Australia in 2018. Following their win, England skipper Morgan hailed Buttler as the best white-ball player in the world.

"The last couple of days have been great. Feels good to be among this group. To post a big score like that and then Jos coming in at the end and he is a world of his own, it is absolutely amazing - probably the reason why he is the best white-ball cricketer in the world," said Morgan as he lauded Buttler.

When the guys come in and play with the mantra that we have been playing for the last six years, it's great. We have not played a lot of 50-over cricket recently, and it's important to have such situations going into the World Cup in India next year," he added.

'Best white-ball cricketer in the world': Morgan lauds Buttler as England register highest-ever ODI score

England created a world record by slamming the highest-ever ODI score on Friday (June 17) as Eoin Morgan &amp; Co. hammered the hapless Netherlands bowlers in the three-match series opener, at the&nbsp;VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen.

Being asked to bat first, Morgan-led Three Lions displayed their attacking style of cricket despite being 1-1 after Jason Roy's early dismissal. Phillip Salt, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler were the three centurions as England reached a mammoth 498-4 in 50 overs, achieving the highest ODI total in history. Their innings was filled with as many as 26 sixes, most by any team in an ODI inning. Apart from the three centurions, big-hitter Liam Livingstone -- coming from an excellent IPL 2022 -- was also at his best as he slammed an unbeaten 22-ball 66, studded with 6 fours and an equal number of sixes at a strike rate of 300.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Courtesy his blistering knock, Livingstone broke a plethora of records. In the 46th over of the innings, the right-hander smacked Dutchman Philippe Boissevain for 32 runs -- including 4 sixes and two fours. This became&nbsp;the best over in ODI history for England as Livingstone went past Dimitri's Mascarenhas tally of 30 runs in 2007 off&nbsp;Yuvraj Singh's bowling at the Oval.

<section>
Further, Livingstone reached the 50-run mark in just 17 balls. In the process, the 28-year-old all-rounder registered the fastest half-century by an English batter in the history of the game. He went past his skipper Morgan's record, who had reached a fifty off just 21 deliveries&nbsp;in an ODI versus Australia at Trent Bridge in 2018. It was the same match when England had amassed 481/6, which is now the second-highest ODI total in men's cricket. In addition, Livingstone's fifty&nbsp;is&nbsp;the joint second-fastest in ODI cricket history alongside former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya, Martin Guptill, and Thisara Perera. He, however, missed overtaking AB&nbsp;de Villiers' all-time record by just one ball.

Meanwhile, keeper-batter and vice-captain Buttler&nbsp;also created history by reaching triple-figures in&nbsp;just&nbsp;47-balls ton; registering the second-fastest hundred by an English batter in ODIs. Later, the 31-year-old&nbsp;got to the 150-run mark&nbsp;in 65 deliveries, becoming&nbsp;the second-fastest ever to reach the milestone in the format.

Thus, England's attacking and all-out approach continues to yield&nbsp;rich dividends. The current ODI world champions have surely gone a long way ahead in the white-ball formats.

NED VS ENG: Big-hitter Liam Livingstone breaks plethora of records with entertaining 22-ball 66*

Eoin Morgan-led England have etched their name in history books by registering the highest ODI total on Friday (June 17), at&nbsp;VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen. Being asked to bat first on a batting-friendly track,&nbsp;England big-hitters made the most of the Netherlands' inexperienced bowling line-up as the current ODI champions have broken their own record and put on a mammoth total of 498/4&nbsp;in 50 overs.

Thus, the world champions fell agonisingly short of the 500-run mark by just two runs. The foundation was laid for a big score, despite Jason Roy felling for 1, with an unbelievable 222-run second-wicket stand between centurions Phillip Salt (125) and Dawid Malan (122). The former struck at 131.18, with 14 fours and three sixes, whereas the left-hander Malan returned with a strike rate of 114.68. What followed was more mayhem for the hosts as in-form Jos Buttler and big-hitter Liam Livingstone -- both coming from a splendid IPL 2022 season -- smacked the bowlers to all parts of the ground.&nbsp;

With as many as 26 sixes overall, England also created a record for hitting most maximums in an ODI innings. Interestingly, the next two slots also belong to Morgan-led Three Lions.

Buttler ended with a mouth-watering 162 not out, with seven fours and 14 sixes at a strike rate of 231.43, whereas Livingstone was unbeaten on 66 off just 22 deliveries, striking at 300 with six fours and an equal number of maximums. This also became the third-such instance where a team saw three batters reaching the triple-figure mark in an ODI inning.

En route to the highest ODI score&nbsp;of 498, England leapfrogged the record of the highest total of 481&nbsp;in 50-over cricket. In 2018, Morgan &amp; Co. had gone berserk by scoring 481/6 in an ODI versus Tim Paine's Australia, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This time around, they have gone past their own total and are very much in line to touch the magical 500-run mark in the format.

James Anderson added another feather to his illustrious hat during the fourth and penultimate day of the second Test between England and New Zealand. On Monday (June 13), the 39-year-old claimed his 650th Test scalp by dismissing NZ skipper Tom Latham with a peach of a delivery.

After Trent Boult's 10th five-fer enabled NZ a vital 14-run first-innings lead, Latham &amp; Co. went out to bat in their second essay and were jolted soon with the stand-in skipper being dismissed for 4. The left-hander left a delivery that angled in and hit the stumps as Anderson attained his 650th wicket in the purest format. Here's the video of the unplayable delivery by the veteran pacer:

There was total error in judgment from Latham as NZ were stunned early in their second essay after managing a slender lead in the second and penultimate Test, with the series on the line. On the other hand, here's a look at the top-five wicket-takers in Test cricket after Anderson claimed his 650th victim:

Muttiah Muralitharan - 800

Shane Warne - 708

James Anderson - 650*

Anil Kumble - 619

Glenn McGrath - 563

Thus, Anderson remains the highest wicket-taker in the format among pacers with the second-best -- among active bowlers -- being his teammate Stuart Broad (who has accounted for 543 scalps so far).

After Anderson's early strike, NZ went to lunch at 27/1, with an overall lead of 41. Earlier in the morning session of Day 4, England were dismissed for 539 courtesy of Joe Root (176), Ollie Pope (146) and Ben Foakes' 56. Kiwis have to bat well in the second session to prevent a collapse and then look for setting up a challenging target.

Former England Test captain Alastair Cook was once again involved in an on-air argument with all-rounder Moeen Ali during the ongoing second Test between England and New Zealand at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The duo had earlier had an on-air spat during the Ashes 2021-22 where England lost 4-0 against Australia Down Under. Moeen had then taken a shot at Cook's captaincy and praised former England captain Joe Root.

The incident had happened during the Ashes when Ali was commentating with Cook during a game and went on to praise Root by stating that he had more emotional attachment with his players compared to Cook. His comments didn't go down well with the former England captain, who responded by saying -&nbsp;"Are you just criticising my captaincy?"

In response, Moeen went on to admit he did criticise Cook's captaincy 'a little bit' before the former England captain reminded him how he had been frequently dropped from the English Test side by Root. Ali was in no mood to hold back and reminded Cook how he played him across all batting positions from 1 to 9 during his first year in international cricket and also insisted he was a better bowler under Root.

"That’s true, but you also batted me from 1 to 9 in my first year of international cricket," Moeen told Cook during the on-air argument between the duo. While it was expected, the duo had buried their differences post the argument, it happened once again during Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between England and New Zealand on Saturday.

Moeen was once again sharing the commentary box with Cook, who decided to bring up their argument last time around and said Moeen had already told everyone in the studio that he was not a very good captain and that Cook would also not make a very good coach.

"I was coming back from a holiday, walking straight back to the studio at midnight. I met the all-smiling Mo (Moeen), as he always is, very happy. Anyway, half an hour into the shift, he basically told everyone who is watching and listening, 'I wasn't a very good captain and I wouldn't be a very good coach'. That's kind of how it went. England pacer Stuart Broad has rubbished the speculations of a rift with former Test skipper Joe Root over his omission from the tour of West Indies earlier this year, remarking that it would be pathetic if he was to fall out with someone over not being picked in the squad. Leading English pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad were left out of the squad for the three-Test series against the Windies. The series ended in a 1-0 defeat for the English and led to Root resigning from his role as Test captain.

"Joe and I spoke at length when he stood down as captain and I said to him how much he has meant to me as a captain, and what a privilege it was playing under him. I told him I hope he really enjoys the next few years. All that pressure has gone now. He is already a legend of the game, so he can just go out there and enjoy it," Sky Sports quoted the pacer as saying.&nbsp; "Joe and I are great friends. And I have always been someone who can distinguish between business and pleasure. I cannot fall out with someone because they do not pick me in a team, that would be a bit pathetic," he added.&nbsp;

The pace duo made its return to the squad for the home series against New Zealand and was pretty instrumental in England`s five-wicket win in the first Test at Lord`s in Ben Stokes` first assignment as Test skipper. The 35-year-old Broad picked up four scalps in the match, including two in one over in the second innings that turned the match in England`s favour. "It`s been one of the most fun weeks we have had as a team. I started this season not knowing if I would pull on the England shirt again, I was just enjoying every day for what it was. Jimmy [Anderson] turns 40 this year, four years ago was he thinking 2018 might be his last at Old Trafford? Probably not. I will attack this week with the same mindset: I will walk out on that first day, look around the stands, and know how lucky I am to be there," he said.

Broad remarked that starting the Stokes and McCullum era with a win is huge for the side. Coming to the first Test, England won the match by five wickets, chasing down the target of 277. England finished at 279/5 in 78.5 overs. Root`s unbeaten 115 took the team to a victory. Earlier, batting first, New Zealand was bowled out for 132. Only all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme (42*) and Tim Southee (26) could offer some resistance as debutant Matty Potts (13/4) and James Anderson (66/4) shook the NZ batting lineup with their pace.

In the second innings, England became victims of the pace of Boult (3/21) and Southee (4/55) and was bundled out for 141, gaining a thin nine-run lead. In the third innings, NZ looked in trouble at 56-4 but Daryl Mitchell (108) and Tom Blundell (96) turned the match on their head and performed a brilliant rescue act to help their side reach 285/10. This helped set up a target of 277 for England. England will take New Zealand in the second test on June 10 in Trent Bridge Cricket Stadium.

England speedster Stuart Broad dismisses speculations of rift with ex-Test captain Joe Root

England and New Zealand were involved in a humdinger of a clash when both sides met each other in the series opener of the three-match Test series at Lord's last week. In a riveting clash, Kane Williamson-led New Zealand set up a challenging 277-run target for the Ben Stokes-led hosts, after being dismissed for 132 in the first essay, and had reduced the home team to 69/4 before former skipper Joe Root's sublime 115 rescued England and took them to a memorable five-wicket win over the Kiwis.

Despite giving up the captaincy in the format, Root continued to lead the charge with the bat and his 26th Test ton also helped him reach the 10,000-run mark in Tests. He became the second Englishman, after Sir Alastair Cook, and 14th batsman overall to achieve the illustrious feat. Such has been Root's form that he has amassed&nbsp;2192 runs including 9 centuries in the last 18 months, whereas his competitors such as Virat Kohli, Williamson and Steve Smith haven't hit a single ton since early January 2021.

Thus, former Indian stumper Saba Karim lavished huge praise on Root. In a discussion on India Ahead, Karim stated that Root's consistency has brought him way ahead of the other three batters in the Fab Four. "He has gone far ahead. Joe Root has left the other three batters far behind in the last two years. Whether we talk about consistency, technique or temperament, in all these aspects Joe Root is above everyone at the moment."

"And we are not discussing one more thing, that if we see England's batting, other than Root, we are not seeing any other name coming to the forefront. It means Joe Root has single-handedly scored runs and hit centuries, he has not got any support from the other end," Karim added.

Root will be eager to continue in a similar stead and guide England to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series when the second and penultimate Test starts on June 10 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Joe Root has left other three batters from Fab Four far behind, reckons former India stumper

Joe Root recently became only the second English batter to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket after former England captain Alastair Cook. Root slammed a brilliant century on Day 4 of the recently-concluded first Test against New Zealand at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London to help his side win the game by five wickets and create history by becoming the joint-youngest batter to achieve the milestone of 10,000 runs in the longest format.

Chasing a target of 277 runs, England were under massive pressure in their second innings at Lord's having lost four wickets inside just 69 runs. However, Root combined with captain Ben Stokes to steady the ship for the hosts. The duo added 90 runs for the fifth wicket before Stokes was dismissed on 54.

Root then went on to wrap up the run chase comfortably for England on Day 4 and also brought up his 26th century in the longest format. He now has 10,015 runs in 118 Tests for England is among a handful of active batters who can challenge the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of most runs in Test history.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes Root is England's best batter of all time and has the ability to surpass Sachin on the list of highest run-getter of all time in Tests. Root&nbsp;is just 31 at present and has a number of years left in the tank at the highest level. He would need another 5,907 runs to go past Sachin, who has 15,921 runs to his name in 200 Test matches.

"Joe Root is England's best ever - now Sachin Tendulkar should watch out. For me Joe Root stands alongside Graham Gooch as England's greatest batsman and the way he is going he could surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most Test runs," Vaughan wrote for the Telegraph as he made a bold claim about Root.

"He is still 6000 short of Sachin’s total but he is only 31 and if James Anderson can play until he is 40 then I think Joe can too. He loves batting that much. He is driven. He is a cricket badger. You have to have it in you to wake up every morning and think about batting," he added.

Root has been one of the most consistent performers in Test cricket over the last couple of years and has scored runs for England in all sorts of conditions. He averages 49.57 in his Test career so far and will be looking to create history by becoming the leading run-getter of all time if he can continue with the same consistency and remain injury-free in his career.

'Sachin should watch out': Michael Vaughan makes bold claim as Joe Root breaches 10,000-run mark in Tests

Joe Root has been enjoying a purple patch in Test cricket over the last couple of years. Despite being sacked as captain of the England Test team, Root's performances with the willow have remained unaffected in the longest format. Root slammed a match-winning unbeaten century in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday (June 05) to help the hosts win the game by five wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

It was a brilliant knock from Root under pressure and helped England chase down the target of 277 runs comfortably at the end. Asked to chase 277 runs in their 2nd innings, England got off to a shaky start as the Kiwis reduced them to 69/4 inside 20 overs on Day 3.

However, Root combined with new captain Ben Stokes to steady the ship for the hosts and add a 90-run stand for the fifth wicket. Stokes scored a crucial 54 off 110 balls taking England closer to a win at Lord's. However, it still was not entirely in control of the hosts with New Zealand bowlers hoping to wreak havoc on Day 4.

Nonetheless, Root stood tall at the end and notched up a stunning 4th-innings century to take his team over the line comfortably. In the process, he also became only the second English batter to go past the 10,000 run-mark in Test cricket after the great Alastair Cook. Root also equalled Cook's record for being the youngest to achieve the feat.

Cook lauded Root for his tremendous achievement and said the 31-year-old is the most complete England batter he has seen. The former England skipper also backed Root to break his record and become England's all-time highest run-getter in Tests in the future. Cook is currently England's leading run-getter in the whites with 12472 runs in 161 matches.

"He is a pleasure to watch, the most complete England batsman I have seen. The person who could play the most incredible innings was Kevin Pietersen, but for the most complete batsmen in all three forms, it's Root. His consistency is incredible. He was a very good player of spin, as good as anyone," Cook said while speaking about Root's batting on BBC.

"He was ready to play international cricket. You knew he could handle the occasion. Barring injury, he'll go miles past my record," he added.

Cook, who decided to quit cricket at the age of 33, was once touted to break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in Test history. However, the former England captain decided to part ways from the game at an early age due to mental strain and the toll on his body from the pressure of scoring runs consistently. However, he believes Root might not face such issues and can certainly have a longer career.

"I would never have said I would finish at 33, but the time felt right for me. The mental strain I felt to score runs took a toll on me. I'm not saying it's easy for him, but he doesn't seem to have that problem," said Cook, who is 37 now.

"He is so hard to tie down. I had to grind my way to 30, it always took me what felt like two hours. Because Joe has got so many low-risk scoring options, pretty much through 360 degrees, he will often get to 30 off 40 balls," he added.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain lauded Joe Root after his unbeaten century helped the hosts thrash New Zealand by five wickets in the first Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Sunday (June 05). Root slammed his 26th Test century to help England chase down the target of 277 runs on Day 4&nbsp;of the Lord's Test and secure a comfortable win to go 1-0 up in the three-match Test series.

It was Ben Stokes' first Test as the new captain of England in the whites and Root's first after stepping down as the Test skipper of the team earlier this year. The duo combined to help their side get over the line after being left reeling on 69/4 in their second innings.

Stokes slammed 54 off 110 balls and added 90 runs for the 5th wicket with Root on Day 3 before Ben Foakes joined the former England skipper in the middle. Root took control of the run-chase along wth Foakes on Day 4 and the duo helped England chase down 277 runs in 78.5 overs without losing a single wicket on the penultimate day.

Root completed his century in the morning session on Day 4 and added an unbeaten partnership of 120 runs with wicket-keeper batter Ben Foakes (32) to help England chase down the target comfortably and win the game by five wickets.

En route to his knock, Root became the second England batter after the legendary Alastair Cook to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He also joined Cook in becoming the joint-youngest to the feat. Root, who was born on December 30, 1990, has completed the feat of 10,000 runs at the age of 31 years, 5 months and 5 days. Cook was also 31 years, 5 months and 5 days old when he went past the 10,000 run mark in Tests.

At 31, Root has been absolutely phenomenal in Test cricket and has been churning out runs consistently for England in the whites. He has already breached the 10,000 run mark and is among the few active batters in the world at present who can eaye Sachin Tendulkar's record of most runs in Test cricket history.

'An all time great': Ganguly, Vaughan & others hail Joe Root as he completes 10,000 runs in Test cricket

Joe Root made a superb unbeaten century to guide England to an impressive five-wicket victory over New Zealand on a gloomy fourth morning of the first test at Lord’s on Sunday. Former captain Root became the 14th batsman to pass 10,000 test runs and finished on 115 not out after sharing a sixth-wicket partnership of 120 with Ben Foakes, whose 32 not out was also crucial for England to reach their victory target of 277.

New Zealand’s seamers, previously so potent through the test, found no swing on a cold morning and failed to test the batsmen as the pair picked off the runs with little alarm after England had resumed at 216 for five, needing 61 for victory.

England captain Ben Stokes celebrated victory in his first test in charge and will be targeting a series win when the second of three matches gets underway at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Friday.

Root compiled his 26th test century, and first in the fourth innings, a reminder of the crucial role he still has to play for the side after reluctantly resigning the captaincy this year.

"Scoring a hundred and 10,000 runs, what a player, what a man," Stokes said at the post-match presentation, before cautioning that the side will not be getting carried away with their success having won only one of their previous 17 tests before this one.

"We`re happy leaving here with a win but one thing that everyone needs to take into account is that it`s a change of mindset for everyone and it`s not something that`s going to happen overnight," Stoles added.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson had hoped the overcast conditions would provide movement for his seamers, but was disappointed by the lack of swing.

"The game ebbed and flowed, both teams came out and fought hard," he said. "We saw how difficult it was when the ball was hard. We came here today with high hopes.

"Definitely a lot of learnings. We`ll reflect on this and look forward to the next one."

Joe Root slams ton to help England thrash New Zealand by 5 wickets in 1st Test at Lord's

England`s cricket team are in desperate need of a lift and new coach Brendon McCullum vowed on Friday to bring some enthusiasm into the camp as he starts his role ahead of the first test against New Zealand at Lord`s next week.

McCullum replaced Chris Silverwood who left the role in February after England were thrashed 4-0 in the Ashes in Australia. The 40-year-old, who scored 6,453 test runs for New Zealand in his playing career, only has coaching experience in the Indian Premier League but was confident he could kickstart a turnaround for a side who have managed one win in their last 17 tests.

"My job will be to try to take away some of the pressures initially, bring in some enthusiasm. Naturally, when there`s some change, guys kind of get a bit of a lift anyway, so hopefully that will translate to performances early as well," McCullum told a media roundtable at Lord`s. "But first I`ve got to have a look around and see where things sort of sit currently and try and identify some areas where we might need to make some changes at times too, but I`m very much looking forward to the challenge."

There has already been a change in hierarchy on the field as Ben Stokes takes over as captain, succeeding Joe Root, who led the side in a record 64 tests over five years but stepped down after the March 1-0 series defeat in West Indies. McCullum captained New Zealand in 31 tests and was part of the resurgence that led to them becoming a real force in the long game, eventually culminating in their winning the World Test Championship last year under his successor Kane Williamson.

With Stokes being such a talisman for England, McCullum said their relationship would be key in dragging the team up the test rankings from sixth. "I think the captain-coach relationship in cricket is vital. I think there needs to be a really tight bond there," he said.

"You don`t have to be the best of mates, but I think you have to have a real clear sort of vision of where you want the team to go and you both align with that, and then when you have that, then you can try and just fill the gaps. "It`s my job as a coach to fill the gaps for Stokes. I want him to be the most authentic person that he can be, lead the way that he wants to be. There`ll be times where I might have to pull him back and times where I might have to push him forward."

One problem has been how to blend youth with experience, with veteran fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad recalled to the side following their absence from the West Indies series. McCullum said he would sit down and chat to both about their future plans but that they would still be valuable assets on and off the field.

"We should enjoy the fact we`ve got 280 test matches sitting in our bowling unit and guys who have been there and done it before. It would be great if they were at the forefront of the next kind of development on the side," he said. Asked if he could lead England to being the number one test side in the world, McCullum pleaded for patience. "Yeah, definitely. That`s what we`re all aspiring to do. I think it`s going to take a bit of time and we should hopefully get a natural uplift and results straight away and New Zealand`s a good cricket team, but if we play properly, we`ll give ourselves a good chance," he said.

After New Zealand, England will host South Africa in another three match series in August-September and also play a one-off test against India in July.
