Former England captain and all-rounder Andrew Flintoff met with a serious accident on Tuesday (December 13) in the United Kingdom while filming 'Top Gear', a BBC show that the 45-year-old has been presenting since 2019. The cricketer-turned-broadcaster was filming for the show at Dunsfold Aerodrome, in Surrey, when the mishap happened. As a result, he was soon provided medical assistance and airlifted to a nearby hospital.

According to a report by The Sun, Flintoff's injuries suffered are not life-threatening. “Freddie is in hospital after a crash on Top Gear. He was driving on the track as normal. He wasn’t going at high speeds - it was just an accident that could happen to anyone. All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Freddie was taken to the hospital by air ambulance shortly afterwards. His injuries are not life-threatening and he is receiving treatment. Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering," a source was quoted as saying to The Sun.

PAK vs ENG 2nd Test: England clinch historic series win after beating Pakistan by 26 runs

Chasing a historic Test series victory on Pakistani soil, England were given a huge filip after Saud Shakeel was adjudged caught behind in a controversial manner. Chasing a stiff 352-run target, Pakistan's hopes were pinned on Saud Shakeel (94) who had stabilised the innings and was nearing his century.

However, during the final hour of the first session, captain Ben Stokes attempted to shake things up. He brought James Anderson and Mark Wood back into the attack. A charged-up Wood during his second spell of the day resorted to short-pitch bowling.

Mohammed Nawaz who had joined Shakeel after the dismissal of Ashraf, earlier in the day, was strangled down the leg, whilst attempting a pull.

Wood persisted with the line and ensnared Shakeel in a similar manner as the southpaw feathered the ball behind to a diving Ollie pope.

As the English side appealed loudly, umpire Aleem Dar made his way to colleague and square leg umpire Marais Erasmus to discuss the dismissal. Dar concurred that there was an edge but remained suspicious regarding the catch and if it was taken cleanly by Pope.

However, after the consultation, both umpires gave the 'Out' soft signal. The third umpire, despite multiple replays, could not ascertain if the ball had spilled out of the gloves or not.

According to the laws, unless there is conclusive evidence to turn the on-field decision, the third umpire sticks with the original call. In this case, the soft signal was 'Out' and Joel Wilson decided to stick with the same.

Hamilton Masakadza, the former cricketer and current Zimbabwe’s director of cricket, welcomed Gary with open arms. Masakadza said having Gary playing at the domestic and international level for Zimbabwe will be a win-win situation for everyone. "We are elated to have Gary, an immensely talented and experienced cricketer, back home where it all started for him," Masakadza said. "He is a great addition to our domestic and international set-up and we are looking forward to him making a massive difference for us."

England impressed one and all with their bazball method in the entire Rawalpindi Test to beat Pakistan by 74 runs on Day 5 of the three-match series opener on Monday (December 05). Opting to bat first on an unimpressive track, with nothing for bowlers, England rode on four centuries -- from Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brooks -- to post 657 all-out in 101 overs.

In reply, Pakistan made 579 all-out with centuries from Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam. With a 78-run lead, England batters once again impressed and went all-out in their approach to post 264-7 in 35.5 overs, at over seven runs per over, to set up a challenging 343-run target. On Day 5, Pakistan were 259-5 but got dismissed for 268. Post the Test match, many have hailed Ben Stokes & Co. for their bazball method which lit up the Test, played on a dead wicket.

Nonetheless, ex-English cricketer David Lloyd feels that England's approach isn't new. He recalled the great teams such as West Indies and Australia which were aggressive and never played for a draw. Lloyd further mentioned that only India can play a similar brand of cricket in whites, despite their batters being obsessed with numbers, due to Virat Kohli. "It is not totally new, of course. The Australian team of the 90s were very positive and the great West Indian sides were full of exhilarating stroke-makers. I reckon a team capable of this style now is India. They have all the tools. There has been a suspicion that Indian batters are stats driven but Virat Kohli is one who could drive this," wrote Lloyd in the Daily Mail.

It is to be noted that Kohli remains India's greatest Test captain ever. Under Kohli, India beat Australia in the 2018/19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, had an unassailable 2-1 lead over hosts England in the 2021 series (which ended in a 2-2 stalemate with Jasprit Bumrah leading in the final match), were highly competitive versus South Africa in their own den in 2018 and 2022 tours and remained a dominant force at home.

India also played the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final under Kohli's leadership and remained No. 1 ranked side in the format for a long time. At present, Rohit is India's full-time captain after Kohli's resignation early this year.

What does a batter like Joe Root do when playing on an absolute flat deck where the ball has not shown signs of any movement or spin in eons and the team is miles ahead in the game? They bat left-handed to try to give themselves some sort of a challenge.

The former England captain took everyone by surprise on the fourth day of the ongoing Rawalpindi Test when he became a left-handed batter.

In the 23rd over of England's second innings, Joe Root facing leg spinner Zahid Mahmood took guard as a proper left-hander and swept a delivery on the pads to the left of short square leg.

While it was a catching opportunity, the diving fielder in Naseem Shah failed to pouch it as the batters trudged across to complete the single.

Coming to the shot, Root looked in perfect shape for a batter who is conventionally a right-hander. Most batters tend to remain in their natural stance before the ball is bowled before switching sides.

The likes of Kevin Pietersen and David Warner have been masters of the switch hit over the years. However, Root did nothing of that sort as he became a left-hander for the particular delivery.

WATCH | Joe Root invents a new method to shine the cricket ball during Rawalpindi Test

England created history on the opening day of the Rawalpindi Test versus hosts Babar Azam-led Pakistan. After opting to bat first, on a flat surface, Ben Stokes-led Three Lions didn't do anything wrong on Day 1 to go to stumps at 506 for 4. Thus, England has created a world record for scoring the most runs by a team on Day 1 of a Test. In 1910, Australia had ended the Sydney Test's opening day's play at 494-6 versus South Africa. Thus, their arch-rivals in England have surpassed them to break the record after 112 long years.

Coming out to bat, openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett made merry of the batting conditions versus the Shaheen Afridi-less bowling attack. England reached 174 for no loss at the lunch break, moving past India's 158/0 (27 overs) to have the most runs by a team in the first session. Crawley scored a 111-ball 122, Duckett departed for a well-made 107 whereas keeper-batter Ollie Pope scored a hundred (108) before Harry Brooks remained unbeaten on 101. Captain Stokes also joined the party and remains unbeaten on a 15-ball 34, laced with 6 fours and a six, as the visitors piled on the miseries versus Pakistan. Thus, England became the first-ever side to hit 500 runs on the opening day of a Test match.

The day saw as many as 73 fours and three sixes being scored by the English batters as Pakistani bowlers had no answers to their onslaught. While England's bazball approach has been hailed by many on social media platforms, many also slammed the dead wicket at Rawalpindi with bowlers having no say throughout the day.

Day Two will bring in a new challenge for Pakistan as they have a herculean task to stop England from running away from the game. Anything over 650 looks certain as of now unless a collapse takes place. In reply, Pakistani batters will have to bat very well and come close to England's first-innings score if they wish to stay alive in the game.

Rawalpindi Test: England create history! Ben Stokes & Co. become first team to hit most runs on Day 1

The FIFA World Cup 2022 edition finally kicked off in Qatar on November 20. While the mega event was eagerly awaited, a lot of things have made the headlines off the field en route to the tournament's commencement. A lot has been said and written about Qatar's human rights violations and many have slammed the Middle East country, with ex-FIFA President Sepp Blatter also admitting that it was a mistake to award the hosting rights to a country like Qatar.

Nonetheless, the West's reporting of Qatar has made heads turn at regular intervals prior to the FIFA WC's opener. It is to be noted that the BBC relegated the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony to the "Red Button" service and online.
It is known that England is taking a knee with regard to supporting the Black Lives Matter movement in the Qatar World Cup. In September 2020, former West Indies pacer Michael Holding slammed England and Australia for choosing when to take a knee. After the West Indies tour of England, where both teams took a knee before proceedings, the then Joe Root-led England didn't take a knee in their following home series versus Pakistan and Australia. Back then, Holding blasted at England Cricket Board (ECB) and Australian captain Aaron Finch while speaking his heart out in Sky Sports.

However, BBC One went ahead by not airing the ceremony live by maintaining its stance on Qatar's orthodox viewpoint on the LGBTQ community and notorious history of human rights violations. Is it Western hypocrisy? FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently slammed the West's reporting and said in his first press conference in Doha ahead of the World Cup, "This moral lesson-giving -- one-sided -- is just hypocrisy. The Western hypocrisy? Glaring instances which might prove FIFA president Gianni Infantino right

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the Indian cricket team to follow England's template for success in white-ball cricket. Vaughan lauded England for their winning mentality after their memorable T22 World Cup 2022 triumph and said they deserved to win for having the best side in the competition.

A superb bowling effort followed by Ben Stokes' unbeaten half-century helped England pull off a comprehensive victory in the final against Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. The victory saw England become the first team to hold the ODI and T20I World Cup trophies at the same time.

With the incredible feat, the reigning ODI and T20I world champions have proved they are the best white-ball team in the world at present. Lauding them for their mentality, Vaughan pointed out how England were in trouble in both the 2019 ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup this year after losing games early in the tournament but managed to bounce back strongly and go all the way.

"England should be winning World Cups because they have the best squad but we often see the best teams not living up to their billing. In the 2019 World Cup final, England had the rub of the green and they did this time as well. But they deserve that luck because they have done things right for so long by committing to a style," Vaughan wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has slammed England all-rounder Moeen Ali for his recent comments criticising the 'horrible' scheduling in international cricket. Ali called out the tight schedule after England defeated Pakistan in the final to win the T20 World Cup 2022 title on Sunday (November 13).

England are already gearing up for their next international assignment in less than a week after playing the T20 World Cup 2022 final as they will take on Australia in a three-match ODI series starting from Thursday (November 17). England players have a break of just three days before they return to action once again post the recently-concluded World Cup.

Calling out the packed schedule, Ali said it becomes difficult for the players to give their hundred percent in every game if they have to play so frequently with no time for rest and recovery.

"Having a game in three days' time, it's horrible. But it's better than two days' time. If it had rained on Sunday, it would have been two days (if the reserve day came into play)," Ali said after England's T20 World Cup triumph.

"As players, we're kind of getting used to it now. But to give 100 percent all the time is difficult when you're playing every two, three days," he added.

Moeen further pointed out how it was the same situation after England had won the ODI World Cup in 2019 as the team had little time to celebrate with their next assignment lined up shortly after the tournament. The England star said it's a shame that they don't have enough time to celebrate their T20 World Cup victory.

"Those kind of things are a shame. As a group we want to enjoy and celebrate and have that [time] because you put so much into it. It's not just while the tournament is going on, there's the pre-tournament, the build-up and all that," said Moeen.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes lauded captain Jos Buttler after the team's memorable triumph in T20 World Cup 2022. Stokes was England's hero in the final against Pakistan as he slammed an unbeaten half-century to help his team chase down the target of 138 runs with an over to spare and register a comfortable five-wicket win.

Heaping praise on Buttler, Stokes credited him for England's victorious T20 World Cup campaign and said the star batter has now created his own legacy as captain. Buttler had taken over as England's captain in T20Is in June This year after Eoin Morgan decided to retire from white-ball cricket.

Stokes praised Buttler for taking control of the team in a short time and blossoming into the great leader that he already was. The star all-rounder said the current England skipper has now created his own legacy by winning the T20 World Cup crown.

"Jos, obviously you know, when the great man (Eoin Morgan) stepped down and Jos took over, you look how quickly he has managed to take control of the team and progress it from the legacy that Morgs has left. And Jos has now created his own legacy - a T20 World Cup-winning captain," Stokes said on Sky Sports.

Stokes also took a dig at himself during his interview on Sky Sports after his heroics in the final.
"He (Eoin Morgan) had the chance to become the T20 World Cup winning captain but someone blew that up," Stokes said leaving everyone in splits.

And Jos has now created his own legacy - a T20 World Cup-winning captain," Stokes said on Sky Sports. Stokes also took a dig at himself during his interview on Sky Sports after his heroics in the final. The England all-rounder said Morgan could have won the T20 World Cup as captain but someone blew the chance up referring to Marlon Samules' exploits against him in the 2016 T20 World Cup final. "He (Eoin Morgan) had the chance to become the T20 World Cup winning captain but someone blew that up," Stokes said leaving everyone in splits.
Ben Stokes slammed a gritty half-century to help England beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final and lift the T20 World Cup 2022 title. After the bowlers did well to restrict Pakistan to a low-key total of 137 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the summit clash, Stokes bailed his team out of trouble in the run-chase and took them home with an unbeaten 52 off 49 balls.

England shattered a few records with their memorable triumph as they lifted their second T20 World Cup trophy having won their maiden title back in 2010. They equaled West Indies' record for most T20 World Cup titles with both teams now having won the trophy twice each.

England also scripted history by becoming the first team to hold both T20 and ODI World Cup trophies at the same time in men's cricket. England won the ODI World Cup crown back in 2019 after defeating New Zealand in a thrilling final, and are the reigning world champions in the 50-over format.

With their T20 World Cup victory on Sunday, they became the first team to hold both titles simultaneously. England had headed into the tournament in Australia as one of the favourites and lived up to the expectations by going all the way to lift the coveted trophy.

UK PM Rishi Sunak sends special message to England team ahead of T20 World Cup final

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar lauded the England batters for their terrific performance in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against India but warned them not to expect anything similar against Pakistan in the final. England and Pakistan are currently locking horns in a blockbuster final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with the T20 World Cup trophy on the line.

England demolished India in the second semi-final where they chased down the target of 169 runs without losing a wicket to hand Rohit Sharma & Co. a devastating ten-wicket defeat. Openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales went all guns blazing at the top as they slammed half-centuries apiece to stay unbeaten and take England home.

It was a stunning batting performance from England as they booked a spot in the final against Pakistan. While Buttler & Co. will be hoping to replicate their semi-final performance in the summit clash, Akhtar has urged them to be wary of Pakistan's quality pace attack.

"The difference [in the final as compared to the semi-final] is that England are in a comprehensive position, their confidence will be sky-rocketing. England know Pakistan bowlers are not like India. They will have to work hard to win, they won't get a walkover," Akhtar said in a video speaking about the T20 World Cup 2022 final.

Pakistan have the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Wasim Jr who have delivered the goods with the ball for them in the tournament so far. All four pacers are part of Pakistan's playing XI in the ongoing final and will be hopeful of winning the game for their team.

Pakistan's fast bowlers have played an instrumental role in their journey to the final in the T20 World Cup. They have the best economy rate among all teams in the tournament and have managed to be among the wickets to help Pakistan bounce back from their sluggish start in the competition.

It remains to be seen if England, who have an incredible batting depth, will be able to counter Pakistan's pace attack in the final to lift the trophy for the second time.

As plenty of matches have been impacted by rain in the ongoing T20 WC in Australia, there are high chances of weather playing spoilsport at the MCG for the finale as well. If rain hampers the proceedings with no play possible on Sunday, then the match will be held the next day; i.e. on Monday (November 14). However, if rain leads to no play in the reserve day as well, then Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners.

After Pakistan's win over NZ, skipper Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation, "Thanks to the crowd. We feel like we're playing at home. Got a good start with the first 6 overs with the ball. Later on the ball didn't come on well. Fast bowlers finished well. We planned before going that we'll utilise the powerplay. He's a young guy and showing his aggression (Haris). He's playing very well. We're going to enjoy this moment. But at the same time have focus on the final."

Following a big win in the second semi-final, England's captain Buttler stated, "I think the character we have shown since then (England's loss against Ireland) - it has been amazing. We came here very excited, there was a very good feeling. Everyone from 1 to 11 - stood up today. We always want to start fast and aggressively. Rashid was batting at 11, that's incredible to know that we have such depth. Hales used the dimensions well and he has shown his form. He was brilliant today. It's important to enjoy this, it was a brilliant performance from us. I think we need to give special credit to Jordan, to bowl 3 overs at the death coming into the semi-final, it was a tough job. He handled the pressure towards the end pretty well, especially bowling against a world-class player like Hardik Pandya."

Jos Buttler, Alex Hales create new T20 World Cup record with stunning partnership against India in semis

On Thursday (November 10), India is set to take on England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition. India topped Group 2, with four wins from five games, whereas Jos Buttler-led England won three, lost one whereas one game was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. The marquee India-England battle will see some superstar players rub shoulders against each other but majority of Indians will hope for another rollicking performance from in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav.

SKY has lit up the T20 WC 2022 edition with his batting heroics. In five games, the right-hander has amassed 225 runs at an impressive strike rate of 193.97, including three half-centuries. In India's 71-run win over the Netherlands, he struck a 25-ball 61 not out and played some outrageous shots. Speaking of SKY, England all-rounder Ben Stokes lavished huge praise on him while speaking to the reporters ahead of the India-England semis.

Stokes was all praise for Surya and said, “Suryakumar obviously came in and set the world alight. He’s a fantastic player and plays some shots where you sort of are scratching your head sometimes."

Stokes added, “He’s is in great form, but on Thursday, hopefully we can try and shut him down and not allow him to get on one of his rampages." He also mentioned that facing any team in the semis can be tricky. In this regard, he pointed out, "Whoever you face in the semi-final of the World Cup is always going to be tough because both groups were very tough to get through. Finishing in top two of either group was going to be a challenge."

He’s a fantastic player and plays some shots where you sort of are scratching your head sometimes." Stokes added, “He’s is in great form, but on Thursday, hopefully we can try and shut him down and not allow him to get on one of his rampages." He also mentioned that facing any team in the semis can be tricky. In this regard, he pointed out, "Whoever you face in the semi-final of the World Cup is always going to be tough because both groups were very tough to get through. Finishing in top two of either group was going to be a challenge." × India and England will meet in an ICC semi-final for the first time in 35 years, in men's cricket, following the 1987 50-over World Cup. T20 World Cup 2022: England batter Dawid Malan doubtful for semi-final clash against India

England defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in a must-win clash in Sydney on Saturday (November 05) to confirm their spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Their victory also sealed Australia's fate in the tournament as the defending champions were knocked out on the basis of net run rate. Despite having the same number of points as table-toppers New Zealand and second-placed England, Australia failed to make the cut for the knockout stages.

How the defending champions were knocked out

Australia needed to win by a huge margin against Afghanistan in their final Super 12 clash on Friday to safeguard their spot in the semi-finals. However, the defending champions could only manage to pull off a close 4-run victory which dented their hopes of making it to the knockout stages as their net run rate of -0.173 was lower than England's +0.547.

The equation was a simple one for England as they locked horns with Sri Lanka in the do-or-die clash on Saturday. They needed to win to make it to the next round and a defeat would have ended their campaign in the tournament this year.

Explained: How England's victory against Sri Lanka confirmed Australia's exit from T20 World Cup 2022

Alex Hales and Ben Stokes helped England beat Sri Lanka by four wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday (November 05) to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Hales and Stokes produced crucial knocks of 47 and 42 runs respectively as England chased down the target of 142 runs with two balls to spare against the Asia Cup champions.

England lost the toss and were invited to bat first in their must-win clash with Sri Lanka getting off to a good start. Opener Pathum Nissanka slammed a brilliant 67 off 45 balls and set the stage for a strong total, however, Sri Lanka's middle-order collapsed as they were restricted to 141/8 in 20 overs.

Mark Wood continued his fine form with the ball and ran riot as he picked up a three-wicket haul and finished with excellent figures of 3/26 off his 3 overs. In reply, England never looked in a hurry in their run chase and steadily cruised to the target with the help of some sensible batting from Hales and Stokes.

England were off to a flyer in the run-chase as openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales combined to post 75 runs on the board for the first wicket. While Hales took the destructive route, Buttler was more conservative in his approach. However, the England skipper couldn't convert his start into a big score as he was dismissed on 28 off 23 balls.

England then went on to lose wickets in a cluster with the likes of Harry Brook (4), Liam Livingstone (4), Moeen Ali (1), and Sam Curran (6) all falling cheaply. However, Stokes kept his composure and held his crease firm on one end to remain unbeaten on 42 off 36 and take his team home.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Group 1 qualification scenario explained:

New Zealand: New Zealand are currently sitting on top of the points table after two wins and a no-result in their first three games. They have five points to their name and are favourites to top the group. The Kiwis need just one win in their remaining two matches to make it to the semi-finals. Even if they lose one of their two games, they have a superior net run rate which will see them finish as table toppers.

England, Australia, Ireland: All three of England, Ireland, and Australia are currently tied on three points each with one win, one loss and a no-result game each. While England are in the second spot with the highest net run rate, Ireland and Australia are in the third and fourth spot respectively. All three teams can reach a maximum of seven points each which will be enough to secure a spot in the semi-finals. They can't afford any slips ups in their remaining two matches to ensure they can qualify without depending on favours from other teams.

Explained: What New Zealand's win against Sri Lanka means for Australia & England's T20 WC semi-final chances

On Wednesday (October 26), England faced Ireland in the Super 12 clash at the T20 World Cup (T20 WC) 2022 edition, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne. In a rain-marred contest, Ireland had England on the back foot during their run-chase before weather played its part and awarded the match to the lowly-ranked Irish side, who were five runs ahead as per DLS score at the time of the final rain interruption.

After rain led to a delayed start, England opted to bowl first at the MCG, Melbourne. Despite the rain, there were no overs lost as Ireland commenced their innings with a bang courtesy of Paul Stirling's early strikes. Against the run of play, he was removed by Mark Wood. Skipper Andrew Balbirnie (62) and George Tucker (34) got together and stitched an impressive 82-run second-wicket stand to take the innings forward. The partnership was broken with Liam Livingstone removing the Irish captain as a collapse followed suit.

From 112 for 2 in 12 overs, the Irish innings went nowhere as Wood and Livingstone chipped in with regular strikes whereas Sam Curran, who returned with a five-fer in England's tournament opener versus Afghanistan, ended with 2 for 31. Wood and Livingstone got three scalps each as Ireland was dismissed for 157 in 19.3 overs, from 103/3 in 12 overs. They scored only 30 runs and lost seven wickets in the last five overs.

In reply, England's run-chase started off on a dismal note. Captain Jos Buttler departed without troubling the scorers whereas Alex Hales went for cheap as well. The left-arm seamer Joshua Little troubled the Englishmen with his angles and got some movement and good carry whereas others also chipped in with England not being able to score freely. At the halfway mark, England was 63-3 and needed 96 off the last 60.

Moeen Ali got Livingstone's company and began taking on the Irish bowlers before rain made its presence felt in the middle of the 15th over, with England still five runs behind as per the DLS method. With no further play possible, with England 105 for 5 in 14.3 overs, the match went in Ireland's grasp.

Thus, it is a famous day for the Irish camp after getting the better of the 2010 champions.
