DRDO scientists have been working on an upgraded version of the missile with an extended range of 140 km. The trials for Astra-2 were likely to be completed by 2026, sources said.&nbsp;Astra’s homegrown seeker means India controls the core technology, which shields supply chains from sudden export bans or price spikes. In time, Astra will join more squadrons and could even equip other fighter jets like the Tejas Mk-2 and Rafale.

India has entered into a new quantum era by successfully demonstrating an experimental advancement through DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), IIT Delhi.&nbsp;The free-space quantum secure communication using quantum entanglement over a distance of more than one km was achieved via a free-space optical link established on the IIT Delhi campus.&nbsp;The experiment attained a secure key rate of nearly 240 bits per second with a quantum bit error rate of less than 7%.&nbsp;&nbsp;This entanglement-assisted quantum secure communication paves the way for real-time applications in quantum cyber security, including long-distance Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), the development of quantum networks, and the future quantum internet. These efforts align with India’s broader objectives to advance quantum technologies for national development.&nbsp;Under the project ‘Design and development of photonic technologies for free space QKD’, sanctioned by Directorate of Futuristic Technology Management (DFTM), DRDO, the demonstration was given by Prof Bhaskar Kanseri’s research group in the presence of several dignitaries, including the DRDO DG (MED, COS &amp; CS), Director SAG, Director DFTM, Dean (R&amp;D) IIT Delhi, Director (DIA-CoE) and DRDO laboratory scientists.&nbsp;Quantum entanglement-based QKD offers several significant advantages over the traditional prepare-and-measure method by enhancing both security and functionality.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even if devices are compromised or imperfect, the use of quantum entanglement ensures the security of key distribution. This missile has been indigenously developed by the laboratories of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad along with various other DRDO laboratories and Industry Partners.

The flight trial was carried out in the presence of senior scientists of DRDO and the Armed Forces.

BrahMos Aerospace has become the first company in the country to announce reservations for Agniveers under the Agnipath Scheme. BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia.&nbsp;The company was established in 1998 and is headquartered in New Delhi, India. India holds a 70% stake in the company.

According to the new policy, at least 15% of technical and general vacancies within BrahMos Aerospace will be filled by Agniveers. While 50% of vacancies in administrative and security roles, including outsourced functions, will be reserved for Agniveers. The company will ask its industry partners to allocate 15% of their workforce to Agniveers for roles that meet the requirements of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL).&nbsp;The reservation is also for contractual jobs up to 15%.

Dr&nbsp;Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Deputy CEO, of BrahMos Aerospace said, "Agniveers, after four years of service in the armed forces, will emerge with a deep sense of discipline and nationalism, alongside expertise in their respective fields.&nbsp;This skill set is exactly what we need to mould them according to the requirements of BAPL. The Agnipath scheme serves as a valuable filter, ensuring that individuals possess the requisite skills to join our workforce."

The development increases the opportunity for Agniveers and aims to integrate them into civilian careers.

Dr Joshi further emphasised the need for a more dedicated and professional workforce in key roles and the scheme can provide that. He explained, "After the Agnipath scheme, the same can be ensured by reserving the contracts to companies fulfilling the 50% Agniveer criteria.&nbsp;I am sure this aspect of the government's Agnipath scheme will be helpful to other corporate houses and other defence industries."

The Agniveer Scheme was introduced by the Indian government in June 2022 with a focus on the creation of a youthful and agile military force.&nbsp;Under the scheme, young Indians aged between 17.5 and 21 years are enrolled for a time frame of four years.

According to the new policy, at least 15% of technical and general vacancies within BrahMos Aerospace will be filled by Agniveers. While 50% of vacancies in administrative and security roles, including outsourced functions, will be reserved for Agniveers. The company will ask its industry partners to allocate 15% of their workforce to Agniveers for roles that meet the requirements of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL). The reservation is also for contractual jobs up to 15%. Dr Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Deputy CEO, of BrahMos Aerospace said, "Agniveers, after four years of service in the armed forces, will emerge with a deep sense of discipline and nationalism, alongside expertise in their respective fields. This skill set is exactly what we need to mould them according to the requirements of BAPL. The Agnipath scheme serves as a valuable filter, ensuring that individuals possess the requisite skills to join our workforce." The development increases the opportunity for Agniveers and aims to integrate them into civilian careers. Dr Joshi further emphasised the need for a more dedicated and professional workforce in key roles and the scheme can provide that. He explained, "After the Agnipath scheme, the same can be ensured by reserving the contracts to companies fulfilling the 50% Agniveer criteria. I am sure this aspect of the government's Agnipath scheme will be helpful to other corporate houses and other defence industries." The Agniveer Scheme was introduced by the Indian government in June 2022 with a focus on the creation of a youthful and agile military force. Under the scheme, young Indians aged between 17.5 and 21 years are enrolled for a time frame of four years.
