Reiterating his commitment to expanding health facilities amid the raging coronavirus pandemic, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated two 500-bed COVID hospitals in Hisar and Panipat.

Both hospitals have been set up with assistance from the DRDO.

Khattar inaugurated Chaudhary Devi Lal Sanjivani Hospital at a school premises in Hisar.

The other one, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sanjivani Hospital, was inaugurated at Bal Jatan village near the Panipat refinery.

The Panipat facility was jointly inaugurated by the CM and Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On April 26, Khattar had visited Hisar and identified the campus of Jindal Modern School for the hospital.

The hospital was constructed in a record time of 17 days, an official statement said.

After inaugurating the Panipat facility, Pradhan in a tweet said Indian Oil Corporation has commenced the supply of 15 tonnes of oxygen to it every day.

He said the petroleum and steel industry is doing everything possible to save lives and better prepare for emerging health challenges.

"It is proposed that no fee will be charged from patients who will come to get treatment in this hospital,"&nbsp;he said.

"It accumulates in the virus-infected cells and prevents virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production. Its selective accumulation in virally infected cells makes this drug unique," the ministry said.

In terms of efficacy trends, the ministry said, patients treated with 2-DG showed faster symptomatic cure than the standard of care (SoC) on various endpoints.

"A significantly favourable trend (2.5 days difference) was seen in terms of the median time to achieving normalisation of specific vital signs parameters when compared to SoC," it said.

"Clinical trial results of the drug have shown that it helps in faster recovery of hospitalised patients and reduces supplemental oxygen dependence. A higher proportion of patients treated with 2-DG showed RT-PCR negative conversion in COVID patients," it added.

In a boost for the country`s surveillance capabilities to monitor activities of both military warships and merchant shipping in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the `Sindhu Netra` satellite developed by a team of young scientists from the Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was successfully deployed in space on Sunday.

The satellite was launched using the Indian Space Research Organisation`s (ISRO) PSLV-C51 which took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 10:30 am today.

The satellite, if required, can also help in carrying out surveillance in specific areas such as the South China Sea or the pirate-infested areas near the Gulf of Aden and the African coast, the sources said.

They added that the Sindhu Netra is one of the first in the series of satellites that would help the nation in enhancing its surveillance capabilities on land in areas such as the Ladakh region with China and the border areas with Pakistan.

Seeking to keep a closer eye on the activities of the Chinese military both near the Indian territory as well as in its depth areas all along the 4,000 kilometre Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Indian security agencies feel there is a requirement of four to six dedicated satellites which can help them keep a check on the adversary`s moves.

DRDO's 'Sindhu Netra' surveillance satellite deployed in space, will help to monitor Indian Ocean Region

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials on Friday said that four 'Helina' anti-tank missiles were launched from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv helicopter at Pokhran ranges in Rajasthan.

The helicopter launched Nag (Helina) anti-tank guided missile is ready for induction into the armed forces with the infra-red missile striking 100 per cent success at test-firing trials.

The scientists working at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) need to focus on the next generation needs of the armed forces in cybersecurity, space and artificial intelligence, its Chairman G Satheesh Reddy said on Friday.

In his speech at an event to mark the 60th foundation day of the DRDO, Reddy said academic institutes, research and development (R&amp;D) organisations and the industry need to work together on advanced and futuristic technologies to make India self-reliant in the defence sector.

A press statement issued by the defence ministry said, "In his speech, he (Reddy) called upon DRDO scientists to focus on next-generation needs, including cybersecurity, space and artificial intelligence."

According to the statement, Reddy mentioned that "a number of SMEs and MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises)" are being nurtured by the DRDO as these are supplying small components to subsystems for its projects.

He added that at least 30 startups should be supported every year to develop innovative products for the Indian armed forces.

Reddy declared "export" as the theme of DRDO for 2021 and mentioned that many products based on the DRDO's technologies have already been exported by the defence public sector units (DPSUs) and private companies.

He also highlighted the role of the DRDO during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that its 40 laboratories developed over 100 products on a war footing to combat the virus.

India on Wednesday successfully test-fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) from Odisha coast, defence sources said.

The missile was fired from a ground mobile launcher at launch pad number-1 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) near here at 3.55 pm, and it hit the target with accuracy, the sources said.

An unmanned air vehicle (UAV), 'Banshee', was first flown into the air, which was hit by the MRSAM.

The DRDO has jointly developed the missile in collaboration with Israel Aerospace Industries.

The MRSAM has been manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Ltd.

After its induction into the Indian Army, the missile will significantly enhance the combat effectiveness of the defence forces, they said.

The entire mission trajectory from the launch to plunging into the sea was monitored by various radars and electro-optico instruments, the sources said.

Prior to the test, Balasore district administration in consultation with DRDO temporarily evacuated 8,100 people residing within 2.5 km radius of the launch pad to the nearest shelter centres on Wednesday morning, a revenue department official said.&nbsp;

The NAG missile carrier NAMICA is an Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP2 II based system with amphibious capability. With this final user trial, NAG will enter into production phase.

The missile will be produced by Defence PSU Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), whereas Ordinance Factory Medak will produce the NAMICA.

Laser-guided Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) was successfully test-fired from MBT Arjun Tank at KK Ranges, Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&amp;S) Ahmednagar on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Defence Ministry on Wednesday.

The ministry said the ATGM successfully defeated a target located at 3 km during the tests.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO for the successful test-firing of the Laser-guided Anti Tank Guided Missile from MBT Arjun at KK Ranges.

The missile has been developed by Armament Research &amp; Development Establishment (ARDE) Pune in association with High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) Pune, and Instruments Research &amp; Development Establishment (IRDE) Dehradun.

"Laser-guided ATGMs lock and track the targets with the help of laser designation to ensure precision hit accuracy. The missile employs a tandem HEAT warhead to defeat Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) protected armoured vehicles. There are two variants of Ultra Swachh, one is Ozonated Space and second is Trinetra Technology. &nbsp;Trinetra technology is a combination of Ozonated space and radical dispenser. Treatment is optimised with automation for a quick disinfection cycle.&nbsp;

It operates on 15 Ampere, 220 Volts, 50-hertz power supply.&nbsp;

The ship had started its voyage from the port of Jiangyin in eastern China on January 17. The vessel was bound for port Qasim in Karachi but made a brief stop at the Kandla port on February 3 as Indian authorities conducted a detailed inspection.
