Mohammad Sharifullah, a key suspect in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing who was extradited to the US on Tuesday night, made his first court appearance on Wednesday (Mar 5).&nbsp;The federal court&nbsp; in Virginia ordered him to be held in custody. A formal detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.
The Abbey Gate bombing, which happened amid the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan, killed 13 American soldiers and 170 Afghans.&nbsp;
&nbsp;"Mohammad Sharifullah, alleged co-conspirator in the murder of American soldiers at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan, apprehended and extradited last night &mdash; wheels down to face American justice," wrote FBI Director Kash Patel on X.
The extradition came after President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States had apprehended a &ldquo;top terrorist&rdquo; involved in the Kabul airport&rsquo;s Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan in 2021 that killed 13 American soldiers and at least 170 Afghan civilians.
Mohammad Sharifullah, a member of the terror group Islamic State in Afghanistan, ISIS-K, was allegedly involved in the planning of the terrorist attack. He has been charged with &ldquo;providing and conspiring to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization, resulting in death,&rdquo; according to the Department of Justice (DOJ)
During his joint address to Congress on Tuesday evening, Trump revealed that Sharifullah has been apprehended.
&ldquo;Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice,&rdquo; Trump said.

A statement by the DOJ said that Sharifullah was arrested and expected to appear in the Eastern District of Virginia on Wednesday (Mar 5).
&ldquo;This evil ISIS-K terrorist orchestrated the brutal murder of 13 heroic Marines,&rdquo; Attorney General Pamela Bondi said.
According to a CNN report, Trump thanked Pakistan for &ldquo;helping arrest this monster,&rdquo; as it acted on CIA intelligence that led to the arrest.
Trump added that the development was a &ldquo;momentous day&rdquo; for the families of victims. He said that he had spoken &ldquo;to many of the parents and loved ones,&rdquo; of those who lost their lives in the attack.
<h2>Who is Mohammad Sharifullah?</h2>
Sharifullah admitted to helping plan for the Abbey Gate attack. He also scouted a route near the airport for the attackers.
He joined ISIS-K in 2016 and was arrested in 2019. However, he managed to escape the prison during a jailbreak by the Afghan Taliban when they took over Afghanistan in 2021.
According to the DOJ, following his release, an ISIS-K member contacted him to seek help in planning the attack in Kabul.

Mohammad Sharifullah, key suspect in 2021 Kabul airport bombing, in US custody. Who is he?

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (March 5) tore into Democrats who heckled him during his Tuesday (March 4) speech to a joint session of Congress. Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the opposition leaders behaved so badly they deserve to lose the next congressional election &mdash; due in 2026.
<h2>What happened during Trump's speech to Congress?</h2>
On Tuesday, Trump addressed a joint session of the US Congress for the first time during his second term as president. During the one-hour and 40-minute speech, he touted his many radical policies and executive orders. While celebrating his administration's drive to dismantle swathes of federal democracy, he remarked that his administration was "just getting started".

While Republicans cheered almost every line Trump uttered, Democrats were for the most part silent - except when mid-speech, a congressman refused to stop heckling the Republican president, shaking his walking stick at him.
Just minutes into the speech, Al Green, the Democratic Party congressional representative heckling at Trump, was removed from the House for interrupting the president's speech.&nbsp;
That was not all. During Al Green's protest and even after, other Democrats were seen holding up placards that read "False," "Musk Steals," "Save Medicaid," "Protect Veterans," and "That's a lie!".
Others were seen wearing scarves, striped ties, or lapel ribbons in the yellow and blue colours of the Ukrainian flag in solidarity with the war-torn nation, a US ally they claim has been betrayed by the Trump administration.

<h2>How did Trump react?</h2>
Donald Trump was visibly annoyed at the interruptions and at one point even sought support from Democrats, asking them to work together "to Make America Great Again," to no avail.
Later, the White House released a statement titled "Democrats Showed Whose Side They&rsquo;re On &mdash; And it&rsquo;s Not the American People," in which it slammed the opposition. Listing exact moments (35 in total) where Democrats "refused" to applaud Trump, it claimed, "Congressional Democrats were too consumed by their own hatred of President Trump".

'Democrats should lose Midterms': Trump slams opposition for 'disrespect' during joint address, demands accountability

During his first presidential address to Congress since returning to the White House for a second term on Tuesday (Mar 4), US President Donald Trump hailed US asset management firm BlackRock for buying two Panama Canal ports amid his effort at &ldquo;reclaiming&rdquo; the canal.
BlackRock has agreed to buy the ports from their Hong Kong-based owner CK Hutchison as part of a $22.8bn deal, after facing pressure from Donald Trump over alleged Chinese influence over the crucial waterway.&nbsp;
The deal will allow the US consortium control of the major ports of the canal. Following the announcement, CK Hutchison stock soared nearly 25 per cent on the first trading day.

‘Reclaiming Panama Canal’: Trump praises BlackRock’s deal to buy major ports

Canada has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization against the United States over President Donald Trump's dramatic tariff increases, the WTO confirmed on Wednesday.
Late Tuesday, Canadian ambassador to the WTO Nadia Theodore wrote on LinkedIn that "the US decision leaves us with no choice".
She said she had, "on behalf of the government of Canada, requested WTO consultations with the government of the United States in regard to its unjustified tariffs on Canada".
A WTO official confirmed to AFP that "Canada initiated dispute proceedings yesterday against the US at the WTO on the additional tariffs", following a similar complaint filed by Beijing over fresh US levies on Chinese goods.
Shortly after Trump returned to office on January 20 he announced &ndash; and then paused &ndash; blanket 25 percent tariffs on imports from major trading partners Canada and Mexico, accusing them of failing to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
He pushed ahead with them Tuesday, citing a lack of progress on both fronts. And after Canada retaliated, Trump quickly threatened to hit Canada again.&nbsp;

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, however, said later that he thought Trump would "work something out" with Mexico and Canada.
Trump also inked an order Monday to increase a previously imposed 10 percent tariff on China to 20 percent &ndash; piling atop existing levies on various Chinese goods.
Shortly after the tariffs on Canadian goods took effect, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attacked Washington's "dumb" trade war, and accused Trump of trying to cause the collapse of Canada's economy to make it easier for the United States to annex his country.
In her message, Theodore said she had filed her country's complaint while wearing "my suit from Anishinaabe and Canadian fashion designer Lesley Hampton".&nbsp;
And she signed off with "Elbows up" &ndash; the rallying cry of Canada's national sport hockey.

‘Leaves us with no choice’: Canada files WTO complaint against Trump’s hefty tariffs

US President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump</a>'s administration on Wednesday (March 5) announced that it is considering selling hundreds of "non-core" federal properties across the country.&nbsp;
The properties include offices for the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and the US Mission to the United Nations.
&ldquo;GSA&rsquo;s decisive action to dispose of non-core assets leverages the private sector, drives improvements for our agency customers, and best serves local communities,&rdquo; the General Services Administration said in a news release, claiming that it could potentially save &ldquo;more than $430 million in annual operating costs.&rdquo;

Initially, a list of 440 "non-core" properties was posted on the GSA website including the FBI headquarters, the department of Justice, Veterans Affairs, Labor and Housing and Urban Development and the Old Post Office where the Trump organisation had a 60-year lease until it sold it to the Waldorf Astoria hotel in 2022.&nbsp;
Later on Tuesday, the list was quickly reduced to 320 properties, with all DC-based properties removed.
Most of the buildings flagged consist primarily of office space and selling them will &ldquo;ensure taxpayers no longer pay for empty and underutilized federal office space," according to the GSA.&nbsp;

Most of these properties removed from the inventory of "non-core" real estate assets were located in the Washington DC area.&nbsp;
This comes as Trump has been trying to cut short the number of federal employees and the need for office space.&nbsp;
However, Democrats have been seen criticising Trump's efforts, saying that the sale of federal buildings could affect small businesses, veterans, social security recipients and others who rely on in-person service from federal agencies.

'Trying to dismantle government': Democrats warn as Trump plans to sell hundreds of federal properties

On Wednesday (March 5), US President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress for the first time since he assumed office. In his lengthy address, there were a couple of gratitude and appreciation notes he shared. He honoured many for their work and highlighted the grit and dedication of slain New York police officer Jonathan Diller, whose widow, Stephanie, was present in the audience.

He also made bold statements during his speech: "I've already signed an executive order requiring a mandatory death penalty for anyone who murders a police officer. Tonight, I'm asking Congress to pass that policy into permanent law. I am also asking for a new crime bill getting tough on repeat offenders while enhancing protection for America's police officers so they can do their jobs without fear of their lives being totally destroyed. We are not going to let them be killed."
While talking about officer Diller, Trump said, "One year ago, this month, 31-year-old New York police officer Jonathan Diller, an unbelievably wonderful person and a great officer, was gunned down at a traffic stop on Long Island. The vicious criminal charged with his murder has 21 prior arrests, and they were tough arrests too."

Trump assured the police force that he will keep them safe and protected, "Once again, we are giving our police officers the support, protection, and respect that they so dearly deserve, and they have to get it. They have such a hard, dangerous job, but we're going to make it less dangerous."
"The problem is that the bad guys don't respect the law, but they're starting to respect it and will soon respect it. This also includes our great fire department; throughout the country, our firemen and women are unbelievable people, and I will never forget them."
Trump was quick to add, "Besides that, they voted for me in record numbers, and I have no choice."

'I have no choice': Trump signs executive order to protect police force

In a press release that could be unprecedented, the White House on Tuesday (March 4) released a list of moments "Democrats refused to applaud" for US President Donald Trump during his speech to the joint session of Congress.
<h2>White House's petty move</h2>
Slamming Democrats for being "too consumed by their own hatred of President Trump," the White House, in the release that's nothing short of petty, listed the moments the opposition refused to show support.

"Tonight, President Donald J. Trump delivered bold, forward-looking remarks before a joint session of Congress &mdash; highlighting the historic accomplishments already achieved in his second term and setting the course for four years of prosperity and strength," said the White House in a statement.
"Unfortunately, Congressional Democrats were too consumed by their own hatred of President Trump, refusing to show support for lowering taxes, fighting childhood cancer, capturing terrorists, protecting women and girls in sports, or law and order &mdash; to name only a few."

Quoting former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, it added, "The Democratic Party still has no common sense. They have no ideas and they have no heart. They couldn&rsquo;t even stand for the most inspiring moments of the speech."
<h2>Why is this unprecedented?</h2>
The White House's press release lists exact moments from the one hour and 40 minutes speech when Democrats did not join the applause. In total, it listed 35 moments, including when Trump declared "America's youth are perfect as God made them," during his signature anti-transgender statements.

Usually, the White House avoids a free-for-all roast and attempt to keep things polished and "presidential". But it must be noted that the White House, regardless of administration, isn't exactly known for staying above the fray. Its releases typically reflect the administration's agenda, however, the detailed analysis of the exact moments where the opposition's leaders refused to applaud the US President is unusual.

White House gets 'petty'? Releases list of moments Democrats didn't clap for Trump

US President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night (March 4). The theme of Trump's speech was "the renewal of the American dream." As Trump took to the podium, Representative Al Green, a Texas Democrat, repeatedly heckled him, after which he was removed from the House of Representatives chamber.
House Speaker Mike Johnson warned Green several times to stop interrupting Trump. Green had previously filed articles of impeachment against Trump.&nbsp;
As Johnson ordered Green's removal from the House, Vice President JD Vance stood up and clapped as a few others joined in.
After Green was ejected from the House, Trump directed his words and glance towards the Democrats and said that he could do "nothing to make them happy".&nbsp;
&ldquo;I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realise there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do,&rdquo; Trump said.
After Green was removed, several House Democrats followed him out of the House chamber.
Notably, a similar incident happened three years back while former president Joe Biden addressed the House. Republican House members, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Colorado&rsquo;s Lauren Boebert interrupted him during his State of the Union address.

US President Donald Trump has made history with record-breaking low approval ratings. These abysmal ratings come after the Republican's recent jibes over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's poll numbers. &nbsp;
<h2>What are Trump's latest approval ratings?</h2>
A poll by Gallup, conducted between February 3 and 16, shows that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Trump just weeks into his chaotic second term. The survey found that 51 per cent of the people disapprove of Trump, while only 45 per cent approve.

With this, Trump has notched history as the only US president to have a majority of Americans disapprove of him and his tenure just weeks into taking office. As per Mirror UK, his approval ratings are the lowest in comparison to US presidents going back to Harry Truman (1945 to 1953).&nbsp;
According to the Gallup polls, Trump has the lowest approval ratings of any US president following the end of World War II.
However, despite this, he enjoys more favourability than he did in his first term. A survey conducted between February 13 and 19, 2017 &mdash; during his first term &mdash; found that he had only 40 per cent approval rating, while 54 per cent of Americans disapproved of him.

Donald Trump breaks record with lowest approval ratings in US history

The US President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China has dramatically affected relations with three of America&rsquo;s key trading partners.
But Trump's obsession with tariffs is not new, it dates back to when he was just a young businessman.
In the 1990s, when <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/donald-trump" rel="dofollow noopener" target="_blank">Donald Trump</a> had financial troubles and needed money quickly, he took his 282ft (85m) superyacht, the Trump Princess, to Asia to attract wealthy Japanese buyers.
This was not his first time looking for Japanese investors. During this time, he formed his views on trade and America&rsquo;s relationships with other countries, leading to his strong belief in tariffs: taxes on imports.
<h2>Trump's tremendous resentment for Japan</h2>
Barbara Res, a former executive vice president at the Trump Organisation, told the BBC that Trump had "a tremendous resentment for Japan." She said he disliked how Japanese businessmen were seen as smart and felt the US was not getting enough in return for protecting Japan.
Trump often complained about how hard it was to make deals with large groups of Japanese businessmen. "I'm tired of watching other countries ripping off the United States," he said.

<h2>Allies should 'pay their fair share'</h2>
After releasing his 1987 book, The Art of the Deal, Trump spoke out against America's trade policies in various interviews. On The Oprah Show, he told Oprah Winfrey that America&rsquo;s allies should "pay their fair share" and accused Japan of "dumping" products into the US while making it "impossible to do business" there.
At the time, Japan was becoming a big competitor in manufacturing, especially in electronics and cars. As US factories closed and Japanese brands grew, some experts believed Japan might overtake the US as the world&rsquo;s biggest economy.

Before his interview with Oprah, Trump spent nearly $100,000 on full-page ads in three major US newspapers to publish an "open letter." The ad, titled "There's nothing wrong with America's Foreign Defense Policy that a little backbone can't cure," claimed Japan and other nations were taking advantage of the US. He wrote, "The Japanese, unimpeded by the huge costs of defending themselves (as long as the United States will do it for free), have built a strong and vibrant economy with unprecedented surpluses."
Trump thought the solution was simple: tax these wealthy nations. "The world is laughing at America's politicians as we protect ships we don't own, carrying oil we don't need, destined for allies who won't help," he wrote.
This ad showed Trump&rsquo;s approach to foreign policy, believing that America&rsquo;s allies were taking advantage of the country. He rejected the idea that the US should support other nations without getting something in return and instead pushed for a tougher trade policy.
Clyde Prestowitz, who worked with Japan during the Reagan administration, said Trump&rsquo;s views were not supported by serious experts. "Tariffs are kind of a showy thing that you can say, look what I did, I banged those guys&hellip; so you know, you can be a tough guy. Whether or not they are effective in any way is really open to discussion," he told the BBC.

Prestowitz argued that the real issue, both then and now, is that the US lacks a solid manufacturing strategy, even though it complains about unfair trade.
Till now, Trump&rsquo;s economic beliefs remain the same. He still sees tariffs as a way to push other countries to open their markets and reduce trade deficits. Joseph LaVorgna, a former chief economist of the National Economic Council during Trump&rsquo;s first term, told the BBC, "I think that President Trump understands something which is very important, being a businessman and being transactional, and that is free trade is great in theory but in the real world you need to have fair trade and that's a level playing field."

How Donald Trump's 'tremendous resentment for Japan' fueled his tariff obsession

US President Donald Trump is set to address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday (March 4), delivering his first speech before both chambers since returning to office. The event, typically an opportunity for a president to outline their vision for the country, is happening amid heightened political tensions, with Democrats preparing various forms of protest, according to reports from CBS News and Axios.
<h2>White House dismisses protest concerns</h2>
Despite reports that some Democrats are planning to go further than ever before in their demonstrations, the White House has downplayed the issue. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital that Trump is prepared for any disruptions. "Democrats behaving like children would be the least surprising news of the night," Leavitt said.

<h2>Democrats plan protests, boycotts</h2>
Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers are actively preparing ways to express their opposition to Trump&rsquo;s policies. Some members of Congress plan to boycott the speech altogether, while others are expected to bring guests, including fired federal workers and Medicaid recipients.
Freshman Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin, who won her Michigan seat in November despite Trump carrying the state, will deliver the official Democratic response immediately after the president&rsquo;s speech.

"This is not business as usual, and we would like to find a way&mdash;productively&mdash;to express our outrage," one House Democrat told Axios.
However, there is no consensus among Democrats about the best way to demonstrate their opposition.
<h2>Planned demonstrations</h2>
A range of symbolic gestures and props have been proposed to make statements against Trump&rsquo;s address:
<ul>
<li>Signs with anti-Trump or anti-DOGE messages</li>
<li>Eggs or empty egg cartons to highlight inflation has driven up food prices</li>
<li>Pocket-sized copies of the US Constitution</li>

Additionally, some Democratic groups plan to use coordinated wardrobe choices as a visual protest:

<li>Pink: The Democratic Women's Caucus will wear pink</li>
<li>Black: Female members of the Congressional Black Caucus have discussed dressing in black</li>
<li>Blue and yellow: Members of the Ukraine Caucus will wear ties and scarves in Ukraine&rsquo;s national colours to show support for President Volodymyr Zelensky.</li>
</ul>
Others plan to sit in silence, refusing to applaud for the duration of the speech, a traditional form of silent protest by opposition parties.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has encouraged Democratic lawmakers to&nbsp;be present for the address. In a letter to House Democrats, he stressed the importance of showing that the opposition party remains "ready, willing and able to serve as a check and balance."

‘Will find a way’: Democrats plot to disrupt Trump’s Congress speech; White House calls it ‘childish behaviour’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that it was an &ldquo;incredibly refreshing&rdquo; moment to watch US President Donald Trump shout at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the Oval Office meeting last week.
Leavitt told Fox News&rsquo; Sean Hannity on Monday (Mar 3), &ldquo;President Trump wants to end this war. He campaigned on this. He talked about it at every single rally across the country, and unfortunately, President Zelensky is not in the mindset to negotiate peace.&rdquo;

&ldquo;And I think, frankly, it was incredibly refreshing to watch the president and the vice president stand up for America,&rdquo; she added.
Leavitt said that Zelensky appeared &ldquo;ungrateful to the American taxpayer.&rdquo;
&ldquo;It was incredibly profound to watch our president actually stand up for us, for the taxpaying American, law-abiding citizen, who was sick and tired of seeing hundreds of billions of dollars go out the door every single year when we had real problems in our country here,&rdquo; she said.

Leavitt&rsquo;s remarks come days after the meeting happened on Friday (Feb 28) to discuss a crucial deal over mineral resources as part of the efforts to end Ukraine's war with Russia.

However, the plan went sideways when the two leaders engaged in a tense war of words and Trump accused Zelensky of refusing to make peace with Russia. Subsequently, the Ukrainian president was made to leave the White House early without signing the deal and their joint press conference was cancelled.
Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused Zelensky of being &ldquo;disrespectful&rdquo; and not showing enough gratitude for US assistance when he questioned Trump&rsquo;s recent talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin that did not include Ukraine.

Leavitt told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday (Mar 3), “President Trump wants to end this war. He campaigned on this. He talked about it at every single rally across the country, and unfortunately, President Zelensky is not in the mindset to negotiate peace.” Also read | Arab League Summit: Egypt’s Sisi says 'Trump can bring peace' as leaders meet to oppose his Gaza plan “And I think, frankly, it was incredibly refreshing to watch the president and the vice president stand up for America,” she added. Leavitt said that Zelensky appeared “ungrateful to the American taxpayer.” “It was incredibly profound to watch our president actually stand up for us, for the taxpaying American, law-abiding citizen, who was sick and tired of seeing hundreds of billions of dollars go out the door every single year when we had real problems in our country here,” she said. White House Press Secretary calls Trump-Zelensky showdown an ‘incredibly refreshing’ moment

On Monday U.S. President Donald Trump officially confirmed his decision to implement 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico starting tomorrow which will create further trade tensions between the three United States' neighboring countries and cause substantial market instability. &nbsp;
Stocks suffered a rapid market decline when Trump issued his announcement and bond yield rates decreased. Market participants panicked because they foresaw economic challenges for both Mexico and Canada which led to a depreciation of their national currencies. &nbsp;
Trump declared at the White House that Mexico and Canada "will have to install a tariff system." The companies must construct their manufacturing facilities including car plants within U.S. territory because this option eliminates all tariffs. &nbsp;

The president declared America had no further negotiating space for a trade agreement because of Mexico's inability to stop fentanyl narcotics from entering the United States. As part of this stance Trump confirmed plans to boost Chinese import tariffs from 10% to 20% because Beijing was responsible for the opioid epidemic affecting the US. &nbsp;
US business leaders together with economists predict severe disruptions will occur to North America's tightly integrated economy because of the impending tariffs which target USD 900 billion worth of annual U.S. imports. Automobile companies experience substantial supply chain interruptions because their operations extend between Canada, Mexico and the US. &nbsp;
Starting at 12:01 a.m. EST on Tuesday (0501 GMT) U.S. Customs and Border Protection will implement a 25% duty on Canadian and Mexican goods and Canadian energy exports will be subject to a 10% tariff. These new Chinese export duties will enter into effect at precisely the same moment. &nbsp;
Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau decided to impose equivalent tariffs of 25% on all U.S. goods worth CAD 155 billion (CAD 107 billion). The Prime Minister of Canada expressed support for Washington to reconsider but advised immediate Canadian trade measures worth CAD 30 billion would stay in force until U.S. actions are removed. &nbsp;
Mexico's government remained tight-lipped ahead of President Claudia Sheinbaum&rsquo;s scheduled press conference on Tuesday, though she has vowed a firm response. &nbsp;
Meanwhile, Ontario Premier Doug Ford issued a stark warning, calling the tariffs a potential "absolute disaster" that could force Michigan auto plants to shut down within a week. He also threatened to halt nickel shipments and cross-border electricity supplies. &nbsp;
China&rsquo;s commerce ministry condemned the move, calling it &ldquo;unreasonable and groundless&rdquo; and vowed countermeasures, likely targeting U.S. agricultural exports.

‘Don’t underestimate Donald Trump’: US president shares warning post for Zelensky

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday (March 2) that he does not "trust" Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing that a ceasefire without a security guarantee would be dangerous and "he would come again" if given the chance.&nbsp;
Hence the critical need for &ldquo;security guarantees&rdquo;, the UK prime minister said. Starmer has been insisting that without a security guarantee, the Russian president could attack Ukraine again and the situation could blow up into a wider war.
On the other hand, he said that he trusts Zelensky and Trump. When asked if Zelensky had done anything wrong, Starmer said, "he didn't", adding that the Ukrainian president has bravely served his country as a wartime leader since Russia&rsquo;s full-scale invasion was launched in February 2022.&nbsp;

<h2>'Felt uncomfortable'</h2>
Starmer said that he felt "uncomfortable" watching the argument between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.&nbsp;
The UK PM insisted that the focus has to be a "lasting peace" in Ukraine, adding that it is crucial for the security of Europe.&nbsp;
While talking to the BBC, when he was asked about the fiery conversation between Trump and Zelensky, Starmer said, "Nobody wants to see that", adding that he spoke to Trump and Zelensky on the phone after the heated exchange.

He said that the purpose has been to "bridge" tensions to get everyone back to the "central focus" of supporting Ukraine to "stop the fighting" in the long run.
While talking about lasting peace, Starmer said that the worst of all outcomes is for Russia to break the terms of an agreed ceasefire deal.&nbsp;
"What I am clear about is that if there is to be a deal, if there is to be a stopping of the fighting, then that agreement has to be defended, because the worst of all outcomes is that there is a temporary pause, and then Putin comes again," he stressed.&nbsp;
Calling it a "real risk", the UK PM said that this has happened in the past. "That is why we must ensure that if there&rsquo;s a deal, it&rsquo;s a lasting deal, not a temporary pause."

WORLD | TRENDING | This came after a heated argument between the Ukrainian president and Trump with Vance being an inseparable part of it. On February 28, Zelensky visited the White House to discuss a mineral deal with the US.

US Vice President JD Vance was welcomed by angry protestors during a family ski trip in Vermont on Sunday (March 2) after his heated argument with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House. People were seen booing him and holding posters that read - "Vance is a traitor. Go ski in Russia," and "JD Vance, Zelensky is 10X the man you are". Some were even seen alleging via posters that the US President Donald Trump "serves" Putin (Russian president). Also read: What exactly happened? This was moments after Zelensky and JD Vance were embroiled in a conversation where the latter dominated, not letting the President of Ukraine speak. Vance asserted, "You should be thanking the president for bringing an end to this conflict." While Zelensky kept reiterating the fact that Russian President Putin annexed Crimea in 2014 and has been violating ceasefire agreements despite having norms clearly laid out. Justifying the need for a security guarantee, which Trump said was only 2% of the entire deal in discussion.

War of words: Trump ends meeting with Zelensky, warns 'make a deal or we're out'

US President Donald Trump is planning to sign an executive order that would make English America's official language, the Wall Street Journal reported citing White House officials.&nbsp;
In its history of 250-year, the US has never had an official national language at the federal level. As it is home to many immigrants from across the world, more than 350 languages are spoken across the country.&nbsp;
The order will establish a national language for the first time in US history.&nbsp;

It would also rescind former President Bill Clinton's August 2000 directive, which requires agencies and other recipients of federal funds to provide services for those with limited English proficiency.&nbsp;
The government agencies will still be able to provide documents and services in languages other than English.&nbsp;
<h2>'To promote unity'</h2>
Moreover, the summary of the executive order stated that the goal of making English the national language is to promote unity, establish efficiency in the government and provide a pathway to civic engagement.&nbsp;

Although the country does not have an official language, the applicants who are seeking to become naturalised citizens have to pass a test demonstrating an ability to read, write and speak English.&nbsp;

World: The US has never had an official national language at federal level. It is home to many immigrants and over 350 languages are spoken across the nation.

US President Donald Trump is planning to sign an executive order that would make English America's official language, the Wall Street Journal reported citing White House officials. In its history of 250-year, the US has never had an official national language at the federal level. As it is home to many immigrants from across the world, more than 350 languages are spoken across the country. The order will establish a national language for the first time in US history. The government agencies will still be able to provide documents and services in languages other than English. 'To promote unity' Moreover, the summary of the executive order stated that the goal of making English the national language is to promote unity, establish efficiency in the government and provide a pathway to civic engagement. First time in US history: Trump to sign executive order making English the official US language

Both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump have confirmed that the former will visit the White House on Friday (Feb 28) to sign the minerals deal.&nbsp;
Trump is demanding to strike a deal with Ukraine to give access to its rare earth minerals as compensation for receiving aid of billions of dollars from the US under the presidency of former president Joe Biden amid war.
Zelensky said that revenues generated under the resources deal would be deposited in a fund shared by Ukraine and the US. He added that Kyiv would not be &ldquo;a debtor&rdquo; over war aid provided to his country under the Biden administration.
Ukraine also said it wants security guarantees. However, the US president said that he will not be making &ldquo;security guarantees to Ukraine beyond very much,&rdquo; suggesting European nations take that responsibility because of geographical proximity.
<h2>What does the deal include?</h2>
The draft agreement seeks the establishment of a &ldquo;reconstruction investment fund&rdquo; that will be managed by both the US and Ukrainian governments.
According to the deal, Kyiv would contribute 50 per cent of the revenues from the future state-owned natural resources projects into the fund, and the money will be reinvested in other developments.
The deal will exclude existing &ldquo;deposits, facilities, licenses and royalties&rdquo; related to Ukraine&rsquo;s natural resources, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
&ldquo;We are only talking about future licenses, developments, and infrastructure,&rdquo; he said.
The draft agreement not only includes minerals and rare earths but also covers Ukraine&rsquo;s other natural resources, including oil and gas. It will also include other infrastructure linked to those sectors, like ports or LNG terminals.

Zelensky to sign Trump’s mineral deal. What we know so far

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (Feb 26) launched an attack on the European Union, claiming it was born to "screw" the United States, as he announced new tariffs targeting the longtime US partner.
Hitting back, the EU said it was "the world's largest free market" and has been nothing but "a boon for the United States."
<h2>Trump on European Union</h2>
"Look, let's be honest, the European Union was formed in order to screw the United States," Trump told reporters during his first cabinet meeting since returning to the White House.

"That's the purpose of it, and they've done a good job of it. But now I'm president," he added.
The US President alleged that the European Union has "really taken advantage of us."
When asked if he has made a decision on how much tariff the US will impose on the EU, he said "We'll be announcing it very soon, and it'll be 25 percent, generally speaking." According to Trump, cars would be among the items to be hit with the taxes.
Last year's US trade deficit with the 27-nation bloc reached $235.6 billion, according to official figures.

Trump's remarks come as tensions between Washington and its European allies continue to mount. Since Trump's inauguration, the US has dramatically shifted its stance on Ukraine and Germany's likely new leader, while also pushing for Europe to take greater control of its own defence.
<h2>European Union responds</h2>
Responding to Donald Trump's claims and threats, the European Union described itself as a "boon for the United States.
An unnamed source in the European Commission told AFP, "The European Union is the world's largest free market. And it has been a boon for the United States."
"We should work together to preserve these opportunities for our people and businesses. Not against each other".
The 27-nation bloc would respond "firmly and immediately" to new tariffs, added the report.

On X, former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt also blasted Trump and said he had a "seriously distorted view of history" as the EU was "actually set up to prevent war on the European continent."
For decades, Washington supported European integration, seeing the bloc's formation in 1993 as a safeguard against conflict after two world wars. Trump, however, has taken a different stance, cheering Brexit and pushing his "America First" agenda.

Trump goes after European Union, claims it was formed to 'screw' US

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday (Feb 26) that he hoped to visit Washington on Friday to meet President Donald Trump and discuss striking a minerals deal with the United States.
Trump is demanding to strike a deal with Ukraine to give access to its rare earth minerals as compensation for receiving aid of billions of dollars from the US under the presidency of former president Joe Biden amid war.
A senior Ukrainian official told AFP on Tuesday (Feb 25) that Kyiv agreed on the terms of the deal with the US to jointly develop the mineral resources of the country. According to the official, Zelensky could sign the agreement as early as Friday (Feb 28) in Washington.
&ldquo;I would like to have this visit very much,&rdquo; Zelensky told reporters on Wednesday (Feb 26).
&ldquo;This is just a start, a framework, it can be a big success. The success will depend on our conversation with President Trump,&rdquo; the Ukrainian president added.
<h2>Kyiv would not be &lsquo;a debtor&rsquo;</h2>
Zelensky said that revenues generated under the resources deal would be deposited in a fund shared by Ukraine and the US. He added that Kyiv would not be &ldquo;a debtor&rdquo; over war aid provided to his country under the Biden administration.
&ldquo;This would be unfair to us,&rdquo; Zelensky said.
He also expressed that he would ask Trump whether Washington would stop the aid and whether Ukraine could still purchase weapons from the US.
Kyiv hopes the deal will improve relations between the two nations, which have recently become sour amid the war of the world between the two presidents.
Ukraine also said it wants security guarantees, although the current proposal of the deal does not include any specific security commitments to the United States, according to a senior Ukrainian official, reported AFP.
