<p>Two months after actor Dhanush and his wife filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth announced their separation, the director dropped 'Dhanush' from her name on Instagram and Twitter.&nbsp;<br />

Earlier in both her social media profiles, she was known as Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Dhanush.&nbsp;<br />

The removal of Dhanush's name two months after the former couple announced their separation also quashed rumours of a reconciliation between the two.&nbsp;<br />

The couple who been together for 18 years and share two sons - Yatra and Linga.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dhanush posted a photo of himself and his son Yathra Dhanush as they share a sweet moment in Ooty. The actor is currently busy shooting for his upcoming psychological thriller ‘Naane Varuven’ directed by his elder brother and filmmaker Selvaraghavan.</p>

As soon as I heard the song, the words simply came to my mind spontaneously. I wanted the words to be understood by everybody regardless of whether they know English or not," he added.</p>

<p>The actor admitted to me that the song had overshadowed his wife’s film. "It seems the song has become bigger than the film. But the film has a solid and novel script. Dhanush teases first look of his Tamil-Telugu film 'Sir'

<p>Critics are &nbsp;either &nbsp;loving it or hating it Aanand Rai’s unconventional &nbsp;love story 'Atrangi Re'.He says&nbsp;he fine with the divided opinions. “As long as no one is indifferent to it, I am fine.When I &nbsp; set &nbsp;off to make this film I &nbsp;was not thinking &nbsp;of &nbsp;how people would react. I never do. I cannot be tied down &nbsp;to expectations, mine or others. I have to do what I &nbsp;have to do. I had to make a film about this girl who cannot be forced to conform.For the &nbsp;longest time, I wanted to do a film on the father-daughter &nbsp;theme. When my writer &nbsp;Himanshu Sharma came up with this idea I knew I had to make this film.”</p>

<p>As Rinku, Sara Ali Khan is &nbsp;all over the place.And that’s the way Aanand wanted &nbsp;it. “I wanted that uncontrollable personality. That’s why she was cast. I must say it was a delightful experience working with her and with Akshay Kumar and Dhanush who are quite easily among the best talent of Indian cinema. Incidentally, I didn’t know that Rinku was Sara’s grandmother Sharmila Tagoreji’s nickname. Sara told me during the shooting. She was &nbsp;very kicked about it.”</p>

<p>I suspect Aanand wrote Dhanush’s character as a Tamilian to accommodate Dhanush?</p>

<p>Aanand can’t stop singing Dhanush and Akshay &nbsp;Kumar’s praise. “Dhanush is &nbsp;a marvel of nature. What he has brought to 'Atrangi Re' is beyond anything I expected.As for Akshay, you know, like me , he doesn’t think about himself. He thinks &nbsp;only &nbsp;about the film.I didn’t have to convince him to do the role . He wanted &nbsp;to be part of 'Atrangi Re'. I wanted a certain magic in the &nbsp;character he &nbsp;played. Akshay has brought in that magic.”</p>

<p>People &nbsp;are wondering &nbsp;how and why Aanand has shown groom-kidnapping &nbsp;in Bihar &nbsp;in this day and age when it has long been abolished. Aanand &nbsp;in his defence says, “But where have I said that my film is set in present &nbsp;times? My films &nbsp;never follow a timeline. In my film the &nbsp;groom kidnapping &nbsp;and what follows, &nbsp;happens. This is &nbsp;the world I wanted to create with my writer Himanshu Sharma.You may &nbsp;have creative &nbsp;and historic quibbles with my world. But I &nbsp;think discussion is &nbsp;a healthy part of &nbsp;any creative endeavour. I am glad people are &nbsp;talking about 'Atrangi Re', good or bad. I’d be worried if they had &nbsp;nothing to say.”</p>

<p>The &nbsp;film addresses &nbsp;the very serious issue of schizophrenia.And yet nowhere is that word mentioned. Aanand says he &nbsp;wanted it that way. “If as &nbsp;you &nbsp;say it is schizophrenia(that one of &nbsp;the protagonists suffers from) &nbsp;then &nbsp;the people &nbsp;around her &nbsp;do &nbsp;not recognize it &nbsp;by &nbsp;that name.Her grandmother,played by Seema Biswas,calls it madness. &nbsp;The &nbsp;characters in the &nbsp;film &nbsp;have probably never heard of schizophrenia. I &nbsp;wanted it to be that way. Early when I had &nbsp;just started shooting Atrangi I showed some rushes to &nbsp;a friend who laughed &nbsp;and cried.He confessed &nbsp;he felt guilty &nbsp;about laughing at the &nbsp;mental disorder of &nbsp;a &nbsp;character. &nbsp;But the laughter is not meant to &nbsp;take &nbsp;away &nbsp;from seriousness of &nbsp;the situation. &nbsp;It is &nbsp;meant to take away the sting from tragedy.”</p>

<p>As for &nbsp;charges of trivializing mental &nbsp;disorder, Aanand shrugs, &nbsp;“I am &nbsp;used &nbsp;to such accusations. When my Raanjhanaa was &nbsp;released I was accused of legitimizing stalking.These things &nbsp;don’t bother me. I won’t stop making the &nbsp;films I want to. I won’t live in &nbsp;the fear of failure. For half my life I was frightened. &nbsp;I am not going to be &nbsp;frightened as a filmmaker.I want to make the &nbsp;films that will be discussed &nbsp;long after I am gone.”</p>

<p>In the end-credits of 'Atrangi Re' Aanand has paid his team members A R Rahman, Irshad Kaamil,(cinematographer) Pankaj &nbsp;Kumar,(editor) Hemal Kothari &nbsp;and writer Himasnhu Sharma a tribute by designating &nbsp;'Atrangi Re' as their film?</p>

<p>Aanand says he hadn’t planned this as a &nbsp;gimmick &nbsp;to impress the audience on how generous he was. “I genuinely feel the film couldn't have been made without them. Rahman Sir’s music takes my film to another level.I told him I didn’t want &nbsp;single songs that &nbsp;would go up the charts. I never do. I cannot be tied down to expectations, mine or others. I have to do what I have to do. I had to make a film about this girl who cannot be forced to conform.For the longest time, I wanted to do a film on the father-daughter theme. When my writer Himanshu Sharma came up with this idea I knew I had to make this film.” As Rinku, Sara Ali Khan is all over the place.And that’s the way Aanand wanted it. “I wanted that uncontrollable personality. That’s why she was cast. I must say it was a delightful experience working with her and with Akshay Kumar and Dhanush who are quite easily among the best talent of Indian cinema. Incidentally, I didn’t know that Rinku was Sara’s grandmother Sharmila Tagoreji’s nickname. Sara told me during the shooting. She was very kicked about it.” I suspect Aanand wrote Dhanush’s character as a Tamilian to accommodate Dhanush? Aanand can’t stop singing Dhanush and Akshay Kumar’s praise. “Dhanush is a marvel of nature. What he has brought to 'Atrangi Re' is beyond anything I expected.As for Akshay, you know, like me , he doesn’t think about himself. He thinks only about the film.I didn’t have to convince him to do the role . He wanted to be part of 'Atrangi Re'. I wanted a certain magic in the character he played. Akshay has brought in that magic.” People are wondering how and why Aanand has shown groom-kidnapping in Bihar in this day and age when it has long been abolished. Aanand in his defence says, “But where have I said that my film is set in present times? My films never follow a timeline. In my film the groom kidnapping and what follows, happens. This is the world I wanted to create with my writer Himanshu Sharma.You may have creative and historic quibbles with my world. But I think discussion is a healthy part of any creative endeavour. I am glad people are talking about 'Atrangi Re', good or bad. I’d be worried if they had nothing to say.” The film addresses the very serious issue of schizophrenia.And yet nowhere is that word mentioned. Aanand says he wanted it that way. “If as you say it is schizophrenia(that one of the protagonists suffers from) then the people around her do not recognize it by that name.Her grandmother,played by Seema Biswas,calls it madness. The characters in the film have probably never heard of schizophrenia. I wanted it to be that way. Early when I had just started shooting Atrangi I showed some rushes to a friend who laughed and cried.He confessed he felt guilty about laughing at the mental disorder of a character. But the laughter is not meant to take away from seriousness of the situation. It is meant to take away the sting from tragedy.” As for charges of trivializing mental disorder, Aanand shrugs, “I am used to such accusations. When my Raanjhanaa was released I was accused of legitimizing stalking.These things don’t bother me. I won’t stop making the films I want to. I won’t live in the fear of failure. For half my life I was frightened. Andy McKay satirical film is full of absurdities yet seems very real. In WION's review, Shomini Sen writes, " Michigan state scientist Dr Randall Mindy(DiCaprio) &nbsp;and PhD student Kate Dibiasky (Law) are suitably excited one night when they discover a comet. Their excitement in hours turns into fear as they realise the comet is coming straight at Earth which can lead to the destruction of mankind. &nbsp;With the help of the NASA chief, they manage to get an appointment with the President of the United States Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep), who after making them wait for a day, finally is willing to devote 20 minutes of her time to the concerned scientist. '83', 'Atrangi Re', 'Don't Look Up' and 'Matrix 4' releases this week: Which one should you watch

<p>The lead pair of Anand L Rai's latest 'Atrangi Re' are stark opposites. He is a medical student, she is a vagabond. He is from the south, she is from up north. He is polite, caring, she only listens to her heart. They both are in love with other people but fate forces them to get married.</p>

<p><strong>* This review may contain spoilers.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Both Vishu (Dhanush) and Rinku (Sara Ali Khan) &nbsp;come to an agreement that they will go their separate ways once they reach Delhi. Post their forced wedding, the two have been packed off to Delhi on a train. Vishu has to head to Chennai to get engaged to his college sweetheart and Rinku is waiting for her lover Sajjad (Akshay Kumar) to get back to India from a work trip in Africa. He is a magician, claims Rinku to Vishu.</p>

<p>Things go awry when Vishu's fiance finds out about his secret wedding and he finds himself defending his wife, Rinku in front of his future in-laws. As they head back to Delhi, Vishu realises he is in love with Rinku. But unsettling secrets tumble out and issues of mental health crop up as Rinku realises she is drawn towards Sajjad and Vishu at the same time.</p>

<p>Filmmaker Anand L Rai' and writer and producer Himanshu Sharma, have earlier worked together in films like 'Tanu Weds Manu', 'Zero', Ranjhana. In all these films, female characters are usually rebels, feisty and bossy. 'Atrangi Re' is no different. Rinku is not an easy person to be around which perhaps makes her more attractive for the opposite sex. But the problem in 'Atrangi Re' lies in its treatment of mental health and symptoms related to the various diseases. One of the main characters in the film has symptoms of schizophrenia and instead of treating it with sensitivity, it almost makes it comical, making the writers appear tone-deaf about issues related to mental illness.</p>

<p>At one point in the film, Vishu and his psychiatrist friend Madhukar (Ashish Verma) are shown seated in a small theatre packed with people, aimlessly clapping at Sara Ali Khan who is on stage supposedly aiding Kumar in performing magic tricks. When Vishu asks his friend who are the people in the audience, Madhukar replies 'they are my patients, all suffering from some ailment like Alzheimer, dementia etc. They will surely clap without questioning much.'The scene may infuriate mental health practitioners. It's is quite cringe-worthy to be fair. That's not all, the absurdities lie in the entire story. How is Rinku allowed to stay with Vishu for days at his college hostel? Why does Vishu and his friends- all final year medic students- indulge Rinku and her whims so much? So many plot points remain sketchy throughout 'Atrangi Re'.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
That has been a problem in several of Rais films. They trivialize issues or glorify them in the name of true love or unintentionally (I hope) end up offending a certain section of society.</p>

The star of the show is undoubtedly Dhanush. He plays Vishu, a man conflicted because of his feelings but also someone righteous. Dhanush is known for his acting prowess (he has won the prestigious Best Actor National Film Award twice) and Vishu is not that complex a character to play. But the actor brings in effortless charm, a certain vulnerability to his role which stays with you much after the film is over. You know that the story is vague and illogical but you want to play along just like Vishu because you want him to be happy.</p>

<p>Some of the scenes though pull your heartstrings. When Vishu professes his love to Rinku in his mother tongue and minutes later Rinku runs off to welcome her lover while Vishu wipes his tears and walks away is a very special moment in the film and performed very well by the principal cast. Then the climax scene- where there are no dialogues but so much is explained about Rinku and Sajjad's past is a powerful scene.&nbsp;<br />

The film has AR Rahman churning out some melodious tunes. 'Rait Zarasi' and 'Little little' particularly stand out. Shot by Pankaj Kumar, the film is visually very pleasing. Some silhouette shots, the 'Chakachak' song are so well shot. So are the scenes featuring Akshay Kumar in a circus, performing magic tricks.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
In the end 'Atrangi Re' is an indulgent story. Takes ample liberties, leaves several questions unanswered and misses the conversation around mental health by a mile. It deserves a watch only for Dhanush and Rahman's music.</p>

Both Vishu (Dhanush) and Rinku (Sara Ali Khan) come to an agreement that they will go their separate ways once they reach Delhi. Post their forced wedding, the two have been packed off to Delhi on a train. Vishu has to head to Chennai to get engaged to his college sweetheart and Rinku is waiting for her lover Sajjad (Akshay Kumar) to get back to India from a work trip in Africa. He is a magician, claims Rinku to Vishu. Things go awry when Vishu's fiance finds out about his secret wedding and he finds himself defending his wife, Rinku in front of his future in-laws. As they head back to Delhi, Vishu realises he is in love with Rinku. But unsettling secrets tumble out and issues of mental health crop up as Rinku realises she is drawn towards Sajjad and Vishu at the same time. Filmmaker Anand L Rai' and writer and producer Himanshu Sharma, have earlier worked together in films like 'Tanu Weds Manu', 'Zero', Ranjhana. In all these films, female characters are usually rebels, feisty and bossy. 'Atrangi Re' is no different. Rinku is not an easy person to be around which perhaps makes her more attractive for the opposite sex. But the problem in 'Atrangi Re' lies in its treatment of mental health and symptoms related to the various diseases. One of the main characters in the film has symptoms of schizophrenia and instead of treating it with sensitivity, it almost makes it comical, making the writers appear tone-deaf about issues related to mental illness. At one point in the film, Vishu and his psychiatrist friend Madhukar (Ashish Verma) are shown seated in a small theatre packed with people, aimlessly clapping at Sara Ali Khan who is on stage supposedly aiding Kumar in performing magic tricks. When Vishu asks his friend who are the people in the audience, Madhukar replies 'they are my patients, all suffering from some ailment like Alzheimer, dementia etc. They will surely clap without questioning much.'The scene may infuriate mental health practitioners. It's is quite cringe-worthy to be fair. That's not all, the absurdities lie in the entire story. How is Rinku allowed to stay with Vishu for days at his college hostel? Why does Vishu and his friends- all final year medic students- indulge Rinku and her whims so much? So many plot points remain sketchy throughout 'Atrangi Re'. <p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="44">While we've recently seen a number of Hindi films that have been praised for their excellent performances, storylines, and technical perfection, it's the South Indian regional films that are currently at the forefront of this shift.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="45">Somewhere along the line, Hindi cinema in general has gotten stuck in a rut.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="46">The biggest production houses seem to be playing it safe and sticking to the same old formula of song, dance, and romance, in the same way that they neglect to push the envelope when it comes to creativity and novelty.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="47">This mantle has clearly been taken over by storytellers and film-makers in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi.</p>

<p>The 67th National Film Awards ceremony finally took place today in New Delhi as top acting honours were awarded after the ceremony was pushed back due to the pandemic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Madras High Court has lashed out at actor Dhanush for having sought Entry tax exemption on a Rolls Royce car that he had imported in 2015. The Court questioned the rationale behind super-rich actors importing ultra-luxury cars and seeking tax exemption, while the common man pays taxes on everything from fuel to soap, without seeking any exemption. This case bears resemblance to that of actor Joseph Vijay who had been called “anti-national’ by the Court for having sought tax exemption on his imported Rolls Royce. Like Vijay had done in his petition, Dhanush too hadn’t revealed his occupation before the Court.</p>

It is understood that the Commercial taxes department had asked Dhanush to pay Entry tax amounting to Rs.60.66lakhs, against which the actor had approached the Court for an exemption in 2015. Back then, the Court had instructed the Regional Transport Office to permit registration of the vehicle, on receipt of 50% of the Entry tax. Later, following the actor’s submission that Rs.30.33lakhs had been paid, the Court permitted the registration of the vehicle as per rules and regulations. Since then, the writ petition has been pending.</p>

When this case came up for hearing before Justice S.M. Subramaniam on Thursday, he said that actors are entitled to buy even helicopters, but they have to pay taxes. He also added that Actors maybe entitled to file cases against tax demand, but they must have paid taxes in full, immediately after the Supreme Court settled the issue a couple of years ago. He also urged actors to act as responsible citizens, rather than continuing to ply their cars on roads laid with public money(taxes), without themselves paying taxes in full.&nbsp;</p>

When the Dhanush’s counsel informed that the actor was willing to pay the taxes in full and sought permission to withdraw the plea the judge refused, as the matter was pending since 2015. The Judge also made a mention of the Vexatious Litigations, where a case is filed without any serious purpose or meaning(to abuse the Judicial process). He said that cases of this kind prevented the Court from allotting time to genuine cases and issues.&nbsp;</p>

In 2020, actor Rajinikanth (who is also Dhanush’s father-in-law) had approached the Madras High Court over a Property Tax demand by the Chennai Civic Body. The issue pertains to a Property tax demand of Rs.6.5 lakhs made by the Greater Chennai Corporation for the months April-September on the Raghavendra Marriage hall, which the actor owns.&nbsp;</p>

His counsel had stated that once the pandemic broke out and lockdown restrictions were imposed by Central and State Government, Rajini’s marrige hall had remained vacant and was not rented out since March 24th.&nbsp;</p>

It was mentioned that the actor had cancelled all bookings at the marriage hall after March 24th (Lockdown 1) and even refunded the advance money in line with government instructions. The first look of the film was released a while ago where Sara is seen wearing a yellow salwar kameez and Dhanush is dressed in a striped shirt and both seem to be in the middle of the market. Normally, in order to qualify, a foreign language films must have been released in their country of origin during the prior 15-month period, from October 1 to December 31 before the awards. This year, in light of the disruption caused by the pandemic, several changes were made to the qualification rules.</p>

<p>To be eligible this year a foreign language film had to be commercially released in any country (not limited to the country of origin) and on any format, including theatrical, TV, VOD, streaming platforms and DVD. Qualifying release dates this year must fall within October 1, 2019 and February 28, 2021.</p>

<p>This year an unprecedented 139 Foreign Language Films were eligible for Golden Globe consideration from 77 countries (of which 37 directed or co-directed by women). Different from the Academy Awards rules, the HFPA does not limit submissions to one per country – multiple submissions from any country are allowed as long as the films follow the qualification requirements.</p>
