Delhi Metro said some thieves or miscreants stole the signalling cables, leading to damage to the metro line. Due to this, the trains will be running at a slower speed, leading to delays between the Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar Metro stations. The trains on the other sections will run normally.

Shortly after the first statement, DMRC said that the repair work would occur during the night hours after the closing of metro services to avoid any inconvenience to people travelling. However, in a recent update, DMRC said that the repair work may start soon.

In the latest update, DMRC informed passengers: “Delhi Metro shall make an attempt to repair the impacted section between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar from 12:45 PM onwards. During this period, single line operation will be done between Subhash Nagar and Kirti Nagar.”

The architecture firm that designed the master plan of the spruced-up Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is soon going to be part of two special events in the UK and Albania.

But before its Managing Principal Dikshu&nbsp;C Kukreja flew out, he sat down with WION’s Akul Baiju to answer some tough questions, about Ayodhya, Delhi’s Airport Express Line, and much more.&nbsp;

What do you think about monopolies in the architecture world?&nbsp; 
 
I do not certainly believe in any monopolistic actions. Still, I believe that projects of different natures which are built around the world and are being built in India require different levels of expertise. If it is a large complex project then it certainly requires the hands of a large experienced firm which has the knowledge sitting within them and the capabilities to deliver that project.

When the Ayodhya redevelopment project went through, there were reports that some shops and homes were demolished for road widening. How do you address that?

I think that is a very serious concern to me and I'm disappointed to read reports about that because, if you go back and see the vision plan which we created for the city of Ayodhya, [it] was centred around sustainability and it was also about being universally accessible and equitable.

When I talk about making an equitable design, it means that it has to be able to work for everybody and therefore I am disappointed when certain visionary aspects get diluted in the rush or maybe in the ignorance of how they must be implemented.&nbsp; 
 
Who was ignorant in this process?

I think that's something I would not comment on.&nbsp;

A lot of my sources have approached your firm to join as a prospective employee and they told me that CP Kukreja pays its architects very little. Is that true?

I am surprised to hear your observation because my understanding of this subject tells me that we are amongst the highest-paying.&nbsp;

I'm not even yet talking about permanent employees but we are one of the few architecture firms in India who are paying interns and I probably think we are paying our interns the highest in the country than any other architecture firm at all.

It is unfortunate that many firms, perhaps to my understanding, do not pay anything to the interns and some pay ludicrously.

If I was a young architect who was just beginning his career, what advice would you give me?

I would say that you have a very bright future ahead. You have a lot of learning that you can take from what has been done in the past by people who have walked this planet in your profession in the same shoes and wearing the same hat so there's a lot of learning but I would just say please tread with caution, tread with a sense of responsibility on your shoulders and also be passionate about what you do.

But before its Managing Principal Dikshu C Kukreja flew out, he sat down with WION’s Akul Baiju to answer some tough questions, about Ayodhya, Delhi’s Airport Express Line, and much more. Here is the interview: What do you think about monopolies in the architecture world? I do not certainly believe in any monopolistic actions. Still, I believe that projects of different natures which are built around the world and are being built in India require different levels of expertise. If it is a large complex project then it certainly requires the hands of a large experienced firm which has the knowledge sitting within them and the capabilities to deliver that project. When the Ayodhya redevelopment project went through, there were reports that some shops and homes were demolished for road widening. How do you address that? I think that is a very serious concern to me and I'm disappointed to read reports about that because, if you go back and see the vision plan which we created for the city of Ayodhya, [it] was centred around sustainability and it was also about being universally accessible and equitable. When I talk about making an equitable design, it means that it has to be able to work for everybody and therefore I am disappointed when certain visionary aspects get diluted in the rush or maybe in the ignorance of how they must be implemented. Who was ignorant in this process? I think that's something I would not comment on. A lot of my sources have approached your firm to join as a prospective employee and they told me that CP Kukreja pays its architects very little. Is that true? I am surprised to hear your observation because my understanding of this subject tells me that we are amongst the highest-paying. I'm not even yet talking about permanent employees but we are one of the few architecture firms in India who are paying interns and I probably think we are paying our interns the highest in the country than any other architecture firm at all. It is unfortunate that many firms, perhaps to my understanding, do not pay anything to the interns and some pay ludicrously. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), on Thursday (Sep 5)&nbsp;said it had taken&nbsp;into consideration the viral video allegedly showing&nbsp;an act of financial mishandling by a ticket operator working at the Indian capital's&nbsp;Nirman Vihar Metro station.

DMRC said&nbsp;that after being notified of the misconduct, they investigated the incident&nbsp;to identify the employee involved. The ticket operator, as per the DMRC,&nbsp;was a contractual operator employed by Nuvision Commercial &amp;&nbsp;Escort Services (NCES).

“A video is in circulation regarding an act of financial mishandling by a Ticket Office Machine (TOM) Operator at the Nirman Vihar Metro station. The operator who was responsible for the mishandling has been "removed from services with immediate effect"&nbsp;and asked to pay the penalty as per&nbsp;the Service Deficiency Memo clause of the contract, DMRC added.

To avoid such incidents in the future, certain measures have been taken by Delhi Metro officials, which include allotting personnel at the station to observe and monitor as well as&nbsp;conduct unplanned inspections.

DMRC also suggests that passengers check whether the exact amount is returned to them before exiting the counter.

“A penalty under the ‘Service Deficiency Memo’ clause of the contract was imposed on the contractor. Subsequently, the operator was also removed from service with immediate effect. DMRC personnel posted at stations have been instructed to closely monitor and conduct surprise checks at the TOM counters to ensure such acts are not repeated. The passengers are also requested to check the exact amount returned to them before leaving the counters,” DMRC wrote.

The DMRC said Saturday (Mar 23) that deep fake technology may have been used to create the video. However, it warned commuters not to shoot videos inside trains to avoid causing inconvenience to fellow passengers. The DMRC was analysing the video for possible policy violations.

“Prima facie, the authenticity of the shooting of this video inside the metro also seems doubtful as deep fake technology may have been used to create this content,” the DMRC said in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet approved two new Metro corridors in New Delhi in another boost to urban connectivity in the national capital. The two new corridors will connect Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said on Wednesday while sharing details of the decisions taken in the Union cabinet meeting held earlier in the day.&nbsp;

The cost of the two new Metro corridors is estimated to be ₹8,399 crore or nearly $1 billion. The budget will be sourced from the Union government and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led government as well as international funding agencies.&nbsp;

The new Metro corridors are scheduled to be completed by March 2029, the Union minister added.&nbsp;

"Today, two new metro corridors have been given permission, on which ₹8400 crore ($1 billion) will be spent. There will be about 8.4-kilometre metro line from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. <h2>Delhi Metro expansion: What does it mean?</h2>

The aggregate length of the two new Metro corridors will be a little over 20 km. The first line, between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G-Block, will integrate the southern part of the national capital with major commercial hubs and popular markets. The commuters will no longer have to take long detours to reach their specific destinations.

The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block Metro corridor will be about 8.4 km in length. The corridor will be entirely elevated and will have eight stations -&nbsp;Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G-Block.&nbsp;

The second Metro corridor between Inderlok and Indraprastha will be about 12.4 kilometres. The 11.35 kilometers of this corridor will be underground and 1.028 kilometres of elevated stretch comprising 10 stations. They are Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, LNJP Hospital, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya and Indraprastha. &nbsp;

In a statement, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said, "More than six million passenger journeys are being performed every single day on the Delhi Metro making it one of the largest mass transit systems in the entire world. In fact, the Delhi Metro is also one of the fastest-expanding Metro networks anywhere in the world." The Delhi Metro was inaugurated on Dec 24, 2002, with the then Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee flagging off the first stretch of the network from Shahdara to Tis Hazari on the Red Line. "In the last 21 years, more than 380 kilometres of additional lines have been laid in the NCR, which is a staggering feat and probably, the biggest infrastructure marvel created in the country. In addition, presently another 65 kilometres of new lines are being laid across the national capital, which will take the network length beyond 400 kilometres in the days to come," the DMRC said. A look at the achievements in 2023 The DMRC mentioned a list of achievements of the Delhi Metro this year. On Sept 4, the network recorded over 7.1 million passenger journeys in a single day, which is the highest ever for the mass transit system. Thirteen days later (on Sept 17), the network started to operate the Airport Express Line at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour (kmph) compared to the earlier 90 kmph. "This historic increase in speed of India’s fastest Metro corridor gradually from 90 KMPH to 120 KMPH was made possible by meticulous planning and time-bound implementation by DMRC’s engineers in consultation with a number of other government agencies and domain experts," the statement said. A 35-year-old woman died Saturday (Dec 16) after getting severely injured during an accident on the Delhi Metro.

The woman suffered brain and chest injuries on Thursday after her saree got stuck in the door of the Metro train. The woman got dragged for several metres at the Inderlok Metro Station.

She was immediately rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday.

The commissioner of Metro railway safety said an enquiry was launched into the incident.

The woman had entered the train but she later turned back to get her child who was left behind&nbsp;as observed in the CCTV footage seen by the officials.

In the meantime, her saree got stuck in the closing doors.

"She had diffused axonal injury (which occurs due to a blunt injury that causes the brain to rotate and shift rapidly inside the skull) and also a fracture on the right side of the head,” the doctors said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also officially unveil Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), known as Yashobhoomi in Dwarka.

The nearly 2-kilometre-long ‘Yashobhoomi line’ of the Delhi Metro will connect Dwarka Sector 21 and India International Convention Centre.

"With the addition of this section, the total length of the Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 will become 24.9 km," the DMRC said in a statement.

From Sunday the Delhi Metro will also increase the operational speed of Metro trains on Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr reducing the travel time. The total journey from New Delhi to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 will take about 21 minutes.

PM Modi also launched the 'Vishwakarma' scheme for the benefit of traditional artisans.&nbsp;

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 77th Independence Day, PM Modi had announced that the government will soon launch a scheme for individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship.

His vision extends beyond providing financial assistance; it aims to preserve age-old traditions, culture, and the rich heritage embodied in local products, art, and crafts, the release said.
