<p>After reaching the venue, the BJP leader, in his speech mentioned the metro journey and said he came to the campus "chatting" with his friends.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PM Modi lauded the central university as a 'premier centre of learning' and reminisced about the old days when DU only had three colleges.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Delhi University has completed 100 years when the nation celebrates 75 years of independence... Delhi University is not just a university, but a movement. This university has lived every movement and has brought life to every movement," said PM Modi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The University of Delhi was established on 1 May, 1922 and has expanded to have 86 departments, 90 Colleges, and more than 600,000 students in the past 100 years.</p>

To improve the quality of educational institutes, we are working continuously. There were around 100 startups in India before 2014, today the number has crossed 1 lakh."</p>

<p>India's Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reiterated its appeal as it urged the passengers to not&nbsp;film reels and dance videos for social media platforms inside the metro trains in the capital region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Urging people to follow guidelines and not cause trouble to fellow passengers, DMRC stated in a release: "Filming reels, dance videos or any other such activities that may cause inconvenience to the passengers is strictly prohibited inside the Delhi Metro."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Delhi metro has issued such advisories multiple times, asking people to refrain from making videos inside the trains as several passengers often complain about the inocovience caused.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While reflecting on the same issue, a DMRC official told Hindustan Times: "Organised shooting inside the metro is strictly prohibited, prior permission needs to be taken even for film shoots. If we do grant permission, some amount is also charged as a token of apology for the inconvenience caused to the commuters."&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, "The viral videos on social media might be fun to watch, but the faces of other passengers reveal their discomfort and shock at being included. That should not happen."&nbsp;</p>

Urging people to follow guidelines and not cause trouble to fellow passengers, DMRC stated in a release: "Filming reels, dance videos or any other such activities that may cause inconvenience to the passengers is strictly prohibited inside the Delhi Metro." The reel fever is spreading in India. More and more youngsters are shooting reels, turning public spaces into filming sets. Seeing the rise, Delhi Metro has prohibited filming dance reels inside metro coaches. Mohammed Saleh reports.

<p>According to reports, around 30 fire tenders are still at the spot and ambulances are stationed for the rescue work even as officials are in the process of recovering more dead bodies.</p>

<p>More than 40 people sustained burns and have been hospitalised. Around 60 to 70 people have been rescued from the building, the police said.</p>

<p>According to fire department officials, information about the blaze was received at 4.40 pm, following which 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, reported news agency ANI.</p>

<p>Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sameer Sharma has said that the fire started from the first floor of the building, which houses the office of a CCTV camera and router manufacturing company.</p>

It was the Mandi House metro station- one of the busiest in Delhi. Not many paid heed to the commotion. Finally, Bhardwaj's father intervened to pacify the situation. Her family boarded the train but one of her brothers was almost left behind at the platform in the disarray.</p>

<p>In a striking symbolism, Bhardwaj's family was not actually present at the station yet her story was unfolding in front of the commuters through an exhibition put up by non-for-profit '1947 Partition Archive'.</p>

<p>The organisers say that the exhibition draws parallels between a metro and a railway station since millions of people mainly used trains as the mode of transportation during the Partition.<br />

Bhardwaj is among the nine women whose photos replete with texts give the first-hand accounts of Partition.</p>

<p>Women were among the worst victims of the Partition violence and the tales which are from both sides of the border are testimonies of an atmosphere of chaos.</p>

<p>While Narinder Kaur recalls how her neighbour had killed his daughters over fears that they will be raped or murdered on their way to the border, Hamida Bano Begum has horrific memories of seeing dead bodies of five men hung from a tree.</p>

<p>Dinesh Kumar was among those intrigued by the black and white photos that have been displayed on the walls of the metro station.</p>

<p>He hailed the initiative saying that "Partition should be remembered as that is how the history of independent India began".</p>

<p>But the 'Women during Partition' was not the only display catching the attention of the passengers.</p>

<p>Another part of the exhibition called 'My Heart Belongs in Delhi' tells the stories of people who migrated to and from Delhi during Partition.</p>

<p>Abdus Salam who migrated to Multan in Pakistan remembers running a bookshop founded by his father in Old Delhi's Daryaganj.</p>

<p>A young commuter Osama Khan could relate to Salam as he works in Daryaganj but it was Major General (Retd) Mohinder Singh Chadha's story that struck him the most.</p>

<p>The exhibition has a photo of him receiving a gallantry award. On the right side of the picture, is the Major General's testimony of tracking down his family in Ludhiana after Partition.</p>

Delhi Metro station brings alive memories of partition

<p>The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on AAP government in Delhi for its decision to give free metro rides to women in the national capital, asserting that it would make Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) an "unprofitable venture".</p>

<p>"Why you (Delhi government) are trying to give a free ride to women in metro trains? If you give a free ride to women, the DMRC will become an unprofitable venture," said a bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta.</p>

<p>On Independence day, only selected gates at four Delhi Metro Violet Line stations- Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and ITO will be open for entry and exit. The remaining services of the Delhi Metro Rail network will remain unaffected.</p>

<p>"The entry/exit at four stations of Violet Line i.e, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and ITO will be permitted from select entry/exit gates during the ceremony time and some gates will remain closed at these stations owing to security considerations during this period," said an official statement from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.</p>

<p>The parking services at metro stations will be closed from 6am on August 14 to 2pm on August 15, the statement added.</p>

<p>Additional staff will be deployed and more ticketing counters will be opened at Lal Quila and Jama Masjid metro stations to facilitate people movement.</p>

<p>"We encourage those, who can afford, to buy tickets and not take subsidy so that others could benefit," Kejriwal added.</p>

<p>Kejriwal further informed that one week of time has been given to the officials to make a detailed proposal for both DTC and Delhi Metro on how and when can this be implemented.</p>

<p>"We are making an effort to start this within 2-3 months. We're also seeking suggestions from people, regarding implementation."</p>

<p>While allowing free travel in DTC and cluster buses run by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal System(DIMTS) may not be difficult, it will be "challenging" to do so in metro trains, transport officials said in a PTI report&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Delhi government and the Centre are 50:50 equity partners in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the move has received a mixed response from women travellers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday flagged off the commercial run on Lucknow Metro's 23-km North-South corridor through video conference from Kanpur and in Ghaziabad inaugurated the 9.63-km-long Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda section, an extension of the Delhi Metro's Red Line.</p>

<p>Modi also laid the foundation stone for Agra Metro Rail project.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister enumerated the number of metro projects inaugurated by him or in the offing, a tweet in Hindi by the PMO, quoting him said.</p>

<p>Today, Lucknow and Ghaziabad metro projects are being inaugurated, and foundation stone being laid of Agra metro, he said.</p>

<p>"Tomorrow, a metro section in Noida will be inaugurated. Yesterday Nagpur Metro was opened, and this week Ahmedabad Metro also got inaugurated," Modi said.</p>

<p>On Monday, he had inaugurated a 6.5-km stretch of phase one of the Ahmedabad Metro train service in that city.</p>

<p>After inaugurating the stretch, connecting Vastral to Apparel park area, Modi had also taken a ride in the metro.</p>

<p>On Thursday, he had addressed a gathering in Nagpur via video conferencing after inaugurating the 13.5 km first phase of Nagpur Metro connecting Khapri-Sitaburdi areas in the city.</p>

<p>On Saturday, Modi will inaugurate the 6.6-km Noida City Centre-Noida Electronic City section, an extension of the Delhi Metro's Blue Line, officials said Friday.</p>

<p>The completely elevated section with six stations -- Sector 34, Sector 52, Sector 61, Sector 59, Sector 62 and Noida Electronic City -- will benefit the people of Noida and connect the satellite city with the national capital.&nbsp;</p>
