Travellers using the Delhi Metro from select stations have been barred from carrying large bags, with authorities restricting the luggage size in view of security considerations, officials said.

The maximum luggage weight of a single bag has been capped at 15 kg by DMRC.

The Delhi Metro recently fixed steel frames at the x-ray baggage machines at five large stations of Chandni Chowk, Anand Vihar, Shahdara, Kashmere Gate and Barakhamba Road, stating that the passengers &quot;can carry maximum luggage limit of length 60 cm, width 45 cm and height 25 cm&quot;.

From March, DMRC will extend the bar on oversized baggage at 15 more stations &mdash; Adarsh Nagar, Azadpur, Badarpur, Botanical Garden, Chawri Bazar, Dilshad Garden, Govindpuri, HUDA City Centre, Inderlok, Karol Bagh, Lal Quila, Nangloi, R K Ashram Marg, Rithala and New Delhi.

&ldquo;Heavy and very heavy bags lead to two problems. At big and inter-change stations like Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate, the baggage line is so engaged that it is very hard to concentrate on all contents of a bag. This is a possible security scare,&rdquo; a senior security official said.

The second reason, he said, is that x-ray machines break down quite often and require frequent servicing.

&ldquo;At such times, jawans have to scan bags manually and that is, once again, a security scare. One miss and the results can be disastrous,&rdquo; he added.

The over 150 stations of the Delhi Metro are the travel gateway for about 30 lakh passengers every day to various locations in the national capital region.

Vehicle traffic also won&#39;t be allowed from Sector 38 Botanical Garden bus stand to Atta Chowk road.

The roads that remain blocked from traffic are the roads connecting to Sector 94, 124, 125 and 126.

The police also said that light vehicles can take the route of below the Mahamaya Flyover&nbsp;via Hajipur to reach sector 126.

According to the advisory, heavy vehicles entering through the Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway, Chilla Regulator, elevated road Sector 60 and MP road to FNG (Parthla) crossing won&#39;t be allowed from 7 am to 9 pm.

The section will provide an additional and more direct connectivity as commuters travelling from Noida to South Delhi can get off at Kalkaji Mandir station instead of changing trains at Rajiv Chowk.

The opening of this corridor is expected to bring down the travel time by approximately 40 minutes.

Botanical Garden which currently sees a footfall of 30,000 commuters, as the Blue Line makes a pit-stop there is expected to rise to 97,780 commuters as it turns into the first interchange station in Noida.

The leader of Delhi&#39;s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that the central government had been &quot;sold by the private companies.&quot;

&quot;The fare has intentionally been increased to benefit private taxi companies... so that people opt for private taxis. The Board could defer the rule. Earlier also this has happened,&quot; Manish Sisodia said, adding, &quot;The Central govt is sold by the private companies.&quot;

Manish Sisodia also said that the metro was running on profits and that he was sure that there was a &quot;scam&quot;.

The revised fare structure will be: up to 2 km -- Rs 10, 2 to 5 km -- Rs 20, 5 to 12 km -- Rs 30, 12 to 21 km -- Rs 40, 21 to 32 km -- Rs 50 and for journeys beyond 32 km -- Rs 60.

Metro fares were last revised in May when the minimum tariff was raised from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and the maximum fare from Rs 30 to Rs 50.&nbsp;

Metro ride is set to get dearer from Tuesday as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) has decided to hike fares.

After a meeting of Delhi Metro Fare Fixation Committee, it was decided that fares will be hiked from October 10th, as decided earlier.

As per DMRC&#39;s estimates, smart card users, who happen to be 70 per cent of the metro&#39;s total ridership, will continue to get 10 per cent discount on each ride, PTI reported.

Also, they will get an additional discount of 10 per cent while traveling during off-peak hours, that is, from the beginning of services till 8 am, between 12 pm and 5 pm and from 9 pm to end of the services.

Sharma said that he was not at fault for the delayed exit for which he was fined. Due to the raging crowds at Rajiv Chowk, from where he changed from the yellow to blue line, he had to miss several trains before he could finally squeeze into one. Other passengers echoed the sentiment. Many of them shared similar stories about Yamuna Bank, which is also a changeover station. On an average, commuters had to miss at least three trains for being too crowded.

&ldquo;The fine is to dissuade people from loitering and misusing the metro premises. But after a long working day, I doubt hundreds of us decided to loiter rather than getting home at the earliest,&rdquo; shared Sharma. He added, &ldquo;the frequency of the trains was lower than usual and all the trains had six coaches instead of eight. This resulted in a huge build-up of waiting commuters.&rdquo; He also shared that the staff at Vaishali metro station did not co-operate and insisted that he pay the fine. It was only after an hour that the station manager agreed that the delayed exit was not his fault.

It should be noted that December 27 was an inconspicuous day in terms of the traffic situation in Delhi. The city sees mad traffic rush on roads and the number of metro commuters also increases manifold on festive days.

Sugandha Sehgal, an assistant professor at Jesus and Mary College, comments on the difficulty in boarding at some stations. &ldquo;Rajiv Chowk can be particularly bad, especially for women. It is not as if we are delicate darlings. But how can we even squeeze ourselves in when there is not even breathing space in a coach?&rdquo; She finds this fine ridiculous and adds, &ldquo;Metro can easily create artificial crisis by delaying the trains or reducing the numbers of coaches during peak hours. Hundreds of commuters will end up paying this fine.&rdquo;

Somnath Sengupta, associate fellow at Observer Research Foundation commutes between Jangpura and ITO stations on the purple line. He swears by the metro but realises that his ease of commuting depends partly on the fact that there are changeover stations on his short route.

A&nbsp;65 year-old woman was permitted to carry an axe on&nbsp;the Delhi Metro, and tried attacking a woman with it inside a ladies&#39; compartment train, the Indian Express reports.&nbsp;
