Delhi Metro says deep fake tech may have been used in viral Holi video

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has questioned the authenticity of a viral video showing two women playing Holi inside a train coach with a Hindi song playing in the background. The DMRC said Saturday (Mar 23) that deep fake technology may have been used to create the video. However, it warned commuters not to shoot videos inside trains to avoid causing inconvenience to fellow passengers. The DMRC was analysing the video for possible policy violations.
“Prima facie, the authenticity of the shooting of this video inside the metro also seems doubtful as deep fake technology may have been used to create this content,” the DMRC said in a statement.
“Through innumerable campaigns and commuter awareness drives we have tried to raise awareness among passengers requesting them not to make reels or indulge in any activity which causes inconvenience to fellow commuters…We also request fellow passengers to inform us immediately the moment they see such shoots being conducted,” the statement added.
“DMRC is absolutely not in favour of such reels being made on its premises,” it further read.

A video circulating on social media showed two girls seated on the floor inside a metro, gleefully applying Holi colours to each other. Clad in traditional Indian attire - one in a white saree and the other in a white 'salwar kameez' - are seen engaged in playful gestures and flashing smiles. The footage also showed them gently rubbing their faces together, accompanied by the song 'Ang Laga De' from the movie 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela' playing in the background.
The incident reportedly took place as the coach was occupied by numerous passengers.

The viral video prompted users to post critical comments on X. While some people praised the video, others asked the authorities to take action against the two girls.
“We need a law against this asap”, wrote on X user. Another said, “I am embarrassed just seeing this video! Imagine the people in the background”.
One X user wrote: “No law required. Just a charge of 1 lakh per 15 seconds would suffice.”
