Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates new public toilet block in Shalimar Bagh for residents, daily commuters

A five-storey building identified as Hostel Daze collapsed in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon, triggering a major rescue operation. The area is close to Delhi University’s South Campus and is known for student PGs and hostels. Reports say around 10 people have been rescued, while several others are feared trapped under the rubble.

Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, NDRF, MCD, CATS, DDMA and Civil Defence teams have been deployed at the site. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing. A nearby building was also reportedly evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday (September 03) flagged off 50 new air-conditioned electric buses in the Tekhand area of Okhla, marking a push towards cleaner public transport in the national capital.&nbsp;The new buses are expected to strengthen Delhi’s public transport network while supporting efforts to reduce pollution and promote environment-friendly mobility.&nbsp;During the programme, officials also inaugurated an Automated Vehicle Fitness Testing Station at the Tekhand bus depot. The facility has been built at a cost of around Rs 10 crore.&nbsp;The automated centre can test the fitness of around 73,000 commercial vehicles every year. <h2>Rekha Gupta targets previous AAP government</h2>Addressing the gathering, Gupta criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that it gave greater importance to publicity than actual work. She said the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operated at a loss under the previous government and its employees also faced difficulties.&nbsp;The Chief Minister said development work in Delhi has gained momentum since the Bharatiya Janata Party government came to power. She said her government believes in completing work instead of merely counting it.&nbsp;Gupta said more than 5,800 electric buses are currently operating in Delhi, while the total DTC fleet has crossed around 6,700 buses.&nbsp;She said the expansion of the electric bus fleet would strengthen public transport and contribute to a cleaner environment in the city. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday (September 03) flagged off 50 new air-conditioned electric buses in the Tekhand area of Okhla, marking a push towards cleaner public transport in the national capital. The new buses are expected to strengthen Delhi’s public transport network while supporting efforts to reduce pollution and promote environment-friendly mobility. During the programme, officials also inaugurated an Automated Vehicle Fitness Testing Station at the Tekhand bus depot. The facility has been built at a cost of around Rs 10 crore. The automated centre can test the fitness of around 73,000 commercial vehicles every year. Its testing system will also help assess vehicles against fitness and pollution-related standards. By extending the life cycle of clothing, the initiative aims to minimise waste sent to landfills while promoting environmentally sustainable practices across Delhi.&nbsp;Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative is also designed to generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for women through the collection, sorting and processing of donated clothes. This will help create a community-driven model that combines environmental responsibility with social and economic empowerment.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the Village Cottage Home at Lajpat Nagar on the occasion of Mother’s Day on Sunday and announced the ‘Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons’ saying the state government will continue supporting orphaned children even after they turn 18 by offering them assistance in college education and job search.&nbsp;The initiative backed by a Rs 3.5 crore budget for 2026–27 will support youth transitioning out of childcare institutions after the age of 18 through rehabilitation assistance, higher education support, skill development, career mentoring, internships, and financial aid.&nbsp;CM Rekha Gupta said the launch of the scheme on Mother’s Day reflects the Delhi government’s belief that its responsibility does not end with providing shelter and protection to children.“The aim is to ensure that every child and young adult gets the opportunity to build a safe, dignified and self-reliant future without ever feeling abandoned or unsupported,” she added.&nbsp;Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive assistance for higher education and college studies, along with access to skill development and vocational training programmes.&nbsp;“The Delhi government will also focus on connecting young people with internships and employment opportunities. The lab will provide trainees with hands-on experience in operating, diagnosing faults and maintaining modern electrical and power electronics systems. It is expected to evolve into a centre of excellence in power engineering, aligning training closely with industry requirements. UPDATE: Delhi Police said that accused Rajesh Khimji has been sent to a five-day police remand for attacking Delhi CM Rekha Gupta during 'Jan Sunvai' in Delhi yesterday. The man who attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the "jan sunvai" (public meeting) at her residence in the capital on Wednesday (Aug 20) has criminal records. The accused Rajesh Bhaiji Khimji from Rajkot, Gujarat had five cases registered against him. In four of them he has been acquitted, while hearing in one of the cases is yet to start. In fact he did a recce of the chief minister's residence in Shalimar Bagh in North Delhi on August 19, a day before the incident, said the police.
