Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar believes New Zealand speedster Kyle Jamieson has the capacity to become among the top all-rounders in the world soon. He feels Kyle Jamieson's all-around capacity makes him an important resource for this New Zealand setup.

Following Kyle Jamieson's endeavours in the final of the World Test Championship against India, where he got seven wickets and scored a pivotal 21 in the first innings, Sachin Tendulkar has anticipated the New Zealand adolescent to arrive at amazing statures in world cricket.

Kyle Jamieson, the 26-year-old, has played only eight Tests for New Zealand since the beginning of 2020, yet has effectively sacked five-wicket-hauls, which is a demonstration of his marvelous capacity. He has had a spectacular beginning to his Test vocation up until this point. In only eight Tests, he has gotten 46 wickets at a startling average of only 14.17 with the ball and a great average of 42.66 with the bat.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Sachin Tendulkar uncovered that he was dazzled with the 26-year-old's adventures with both bat and ball: "Jamieson is a fantastic bowler and a utility all-rounder in the New Zealand team. He is going to become one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket. When I had seen him last year in New Zealand, he impressed me with both bat and ball" - Sachin Tendulkar expressed.

Sachin Tendulkar is of the assessment that not at all like other New Zealand pacers who rely upon a swing, Kyle Jamieson utilizes his height to extract bounce and seam movement from the pitch.

Sachin Tendulkar was additionally intrigued with the manner in which the New Zealand star performed in the World Test Championship final against India. Kyle Jamieson's 5/31 was his second five-for against India. In the first innings, with India laying strong preparation to reach 146/3, Kyle Jamieson shook their innings excusing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and keeping in mind that it was Trent Boult and Tim Southee who did the heft of the harm in the subsequent innings.

"He is a different bowler from Southee, Boult, Wagner, and de Grandhomme. This guy likes to hit the deck hard and likes to move the ball off the seam, while the others try to swing the ball away towards the slips. There were a few variations where he angled his wrists and bowled a booming inswinger. What I liked was his consistency and he never looked out of rhythm" - he concluded.

Cricket: ICC T20 World Cup set to begin on October 17 in the UAE: Reports

Nicholas Pooran believes the Windies should come together and proceed as a unit on the off chance that they need to win the impending 2021 T20 World Cup.

Over the course of the following month and a half, West Indies will play the T20I series against South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan prior to heading out to the UAE for the T20 World Cup in October.

Expressing that a tournament like the T20 World Cup will be won by a unit and not individuals, Nicholas Pooran feels that the forthcoming series will generally be about how the group bonds.

Nicholas Pooran addressed a virtual press conference ahead of the first T20I against South Africa: “To me, it’s not all about the cricket but it's also about how much we can look out for each other, how much we can be a team. At the end of the day, you don’t win a World Cup by one person performing or two persons performing, but by everyone playing their part, and that’s our key. Our keys are to look after each other, be as honest as we can with each other, and then you know the results on the field will take care of themselves because, at the end of the day, we all want to perform, we all want to win.”

Recently, West Indies lost the Test series against South Africa by a 2-0 edge. The Windies will presently be looking at a more grounded rebound in the most limited-overs series.

He accepts that with Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Dwayne Bravo, West Indies have probably the best T20 team. Yet, the key will be to bond well collectively.

Nicholas Pooran said: “I think we picked our best 18 provisional squads. It’s important for us just to get momentum and get our fans back again. We want the full support of West Indians and the Caribbean people. I just believe that we are building towards the World Cup, and we have to function as a team. Everyone knows how good Chris Gayle is, Russell, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, and the rest of the guys, but at the end of the day, if we can believe in each other, that is really important for us."

“I think we have three series before the World Cup. And it’s been a while since we’ve been together for a long time. So, we have a chance to mingle, we have a chance to look out for each other, we have a chance to learn about someone better” - he added

Deep Dasgupta decoded captain Virat Kohli's post-match press interview after India's misfortune in the World Test Championship final to New Zealand.

Deep Dasgupta figures Virat Kohli needs to relinquish the set pattern in the Indian team. He feels the Indian skipper wouldn't fret raising a ruckus saying that nobody in the group can be careless about their position. Virat Kohli will need his players to be more engaged and reliable with their commitments.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Deep Dasgupta additionally disclosed how Virat Kohli needs to be flighty with the group's mixes to consistently keep rivals speculating.

"According to me, what Virat meant by 'pattern' was that the position of certain players in the team is set. Be it Pujara, Ajinkya, or Virat himself. Perhaps the greatest blow for India in the WTC final was the disappointment of senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ishant Sharma. "For the senior players, it is going to be a very important series against England, which includes players like Cheteshwar, Ajinkya, Ishant. I think the team management expects a little more from them. There are options in the middle order like KL Rahul, Hanuma Vihari and so I am looking forward to seeing how this translates into the England series" - he concluded.

So I guess this is his way of telling everyone that no one is set here and that they will not go in with any set pattern. India may have lost the last of the World Test Championship yet it removes nothing from the extraordinary measure of difficult work the unit has assembled throughout the most recent two years.

After their exit from the 2019 World Cup, Team India was out on a Test venture that saw them register series wins – in West Indies, at home against South Africa, the Day/Night Test against Bangladesh, and the unfathomable Border-Gavaskar Trophy win in Australia – to give some examples. An ICC title may keep on escaping the Indian group, however, what this unit has accomplished can't be subverted.

Although Virat Kohli neglected to win another ICC occasion, the Indian skipper posted an endearing message via web-based media, featuring how this unit affects him and his teammates. Dale Steyn noticed an extremely fascinating part of Cheteshwar Pujara's batting, which he feels is holding the Indian batsman down. Dale Steyn, who bowled to Chesteshwar Pujara during India's visit through South Africa in 2013, where the India batsman played a marvelous thump of 153 in the subsequent innings, feels that for reasons unknown, Chesteshwar Pujara has eliminated playing shots off his backfoot.

In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Dale Steyn said: “Out of my memory, I just remember Pujara playing great off his legs. Very, very good off his legs and eyes underneath the ball. But I do remember him playing some magical cut shots and back foot drives. It’s a part of the game that I feel he has lost."

“That shot today that he played, if he was in a better position, a couple of years ago, maybe he would have gotten more on the back foot and punched it through the covers. Whereas he just stood there half and half on his front foot. Overall, a very soft dismissal – running it down to first slip is a very peculiar way of getting out for a top batter” - he added.

The South African needs Cheteshwar Pujara to be more proactive and not pass up runs.

“That’s the thing I have seen lacking in Pujara. I’m so used to him rocking onto his back foot and playing with his hands and good foot movement. He’s kind of lost that part of his game. And if you’re only hanging on the front foot, good bowlers will not bowl half-volleys to you."

"And you’ve got to turn good balls into good shots. That’s the difference between Test cricket and first-class cricket. He’s missing out on a lot of runs there" - he added.

Cheteshwar Pujara averages a little more than 28 since the Australian visit in mid-2019. Although he played an urgent hand in India's victory in Down Under recently, he endured a droop during the series against England at home.

New Zealand on Wednesday defeated India by eight wickets to win the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, played at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. New Zealand's two most experienced batters – Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor – guided the Kiwis to their first ICC trophy since 2000.

The Black Caps, who ended up as the runners-up in 2019 World Cup, continued to build on the improvement in the longest format and enjoyed a brilliant World Test Championship cycle, especially at home.

In a match dominated more by the bowlers, the New Zealand pace quarter stood up with Kyle Jamieson shining the brightest with a five-wicket haul in an ICC final. While Jamieson picked up seven wickets, Tim Southee and Trent Boult ended up with five wickets each. Neil Wagner’s wicket column might show just three wickets, they were crucial to strengthen New Zealand’s stronghold in the match.

New Zealand, after inviting India to bat first, had a tough opening hour with Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stomping their authority early. However, Wagner and Jamieson turned it around. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli stitched a partnership, albeit slow, India steadily found them in a better place. New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham gave a solid start to the Kiwis with 54 and 30 respectively. Kane Williamson played the captain’s knock of 49 at a time the middle-order collapsed. The all-rounders and tail come to the rescue and added crucial runs at the end. Jamieson scored 21, Southee 30, breaking six-hitting records.

Mohammed Shami stood out from the Indian pack with four wickets, including breathtaking spells of bowling. Ishant capped it up with three while Ashwin ended up with two. Jasprit Bumrah’s off form would bother India a bit but one can expect a bowler of Bumrah’s caliber to go through it for long.

All-rounder Kyle Jamieson proved to be a match-winner for New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship Final as the Kiwis defeated India by eight wickets to lift the Mace at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday.

Jamieson picked up a match total of seven wickets including a five-wicket haul in the first innings to help New Zealand win the summit clash against India.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli lavished high praise on Jamieson as he said that his height gives him an added advantage while adding the Indian batters didn’t put him under enough pressure. Kohli further praised Jamieson’s consistency with the red ball while citing his prolific numbers in Test cricket. Notably, Jamieson and Kohli both play for the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“He's a very good bowler, similar to many that I've faced in my career so far. His height I think gives him an added advantage. I truly believe that we did not put him under enough pressure. We allowed him to bowl in similar areas for long periods of time and probably didn't work out the areas that we could score against him, and that was probably down to his consistency, as well. For a tall guy like that to not miss his length so often is quality, and his consistency is what made it very difficult for all of us,” Kohli said in the post-match press conference.

“So yeah, nothing drastically different from something that we have faced over the years, but yeah, just his consistency from the height which he bowls at and his accuracy was something that worked in his favour, and he's had a great start to his career and his numbers are what they are because he's very consistent with the ball,” the Indian skipper added.

Notably, Jamieson and Kohli both play for the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Cricket: WTC Final prize money: How much did New Zealand and India win?

Tim Southee enjoyed a fine day with bat and ball to put New Zealand in a strong position heading into the reserve day of the ICC World Test Championship Final in Southampton.

The 32-year-old scored a quickfire 30 before removing both Indian openers in an absorbing final session, with India leading by 32.

Starting the day trailing by 116 runs, New Zealand began patiently, with Kane Williamson anchoring the innings, but three wickets before lunch opened the door for India.

However, cameos from Kyle Jamieson and Southee were enough to secure a 32-run first innings lead to sit in the driver’s seat in the push for a result.

Southee then removed Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma with some clever inswing in tricky batting conditions.

New Zealand made a circumspect start to the day, with runs hard to come by after a delayed start.

It took more than four overs for the first runs off the bat, and just 16 were scored in the first hour of play.

That pressure eventually told, with Ross Taylor driving on the up off Mohammed Shami, caught by a diving Gill for 11.

Henry Nicholls followed soon after for seven, caught by Rohit Sharma off the bowling of Ishant Sharma before Shami cleaned up BJ Watling for one as New Zealand slipped to 135/5 at lunch.

If the first session belonged to India, New Zealand fought back in the second, playing with greater intent, with Colin de Grandhomme’s drive for four to kick off the session an indication of what would follow.

The all-rounder fell leg before to Shami for 13, but Jamieson came in and hammered 21 off just 16 deliveries, including one huge heave over long-on off Shami.

The Indian quick had his revenge the very next ball, as Jamieson hit a top-edge to Jasprit Bumrah at long leg.

All the while, Williamson was plugging away at the other end, eventually dismissed for 49 after 177 deliveries, caught by Virat Kohli as he was tempted to play a wide one by Ishant Sharma.

His strike rate of 27.7 is the lowest he has had in an innings where he has reached 20, an indication of just how hard he had to dig in, but while he missed out on a half-century, New Zealand had the lead by the time he departed.

At 221 for eight, the tail was given license to have a go, and Southee took full advantage. He hit two sixes and a four in his 46-ball 30 putting on some valuable runs with Neil Wagner (0) and Trent Boult (5 not out) before he was the last man out, bowled off his pads by Ravindra Jadeja.

To challenge for the win, New Zealand needed some early wickets, and Gill fell for eight as Southee brought one back in to pin him leg before with the deficit still at eight.

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara knuckled down but another Southee inswinger did for the former, failing to play a shot as he went LBW for 30.

Pujara and Kohli saw out the remainder of the session and will return on Wednesday looking to build on India’s lead of 32.

The ICC confirmed that the reserve day would be utilised with a maximum of 98 overs (83 plus 15) to be bowled and play to begin at 10.30 a.m. BST

Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma on Tuesday helped India bounce back into the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton by picking three quick wickets during the end of the first session on Day 5.

Indian quicks struggled on Day 3 with the ball as they failed to find the perfect length to trouble the New Zealand batters. However, they were right on the money when play resumed on Day 5 after a washed-out Day 4.

Former India batting coach, Sanjay Bangar weighed his opinion behind the success of Indian pacers on Day 5 as he said that the fuller length bowled by the Indian speedsters helped them get the most out of the conditions.

"Massive difference, especially in the lengths that they bowled today. Earlier we were saying that the lengths were a tad shorter, only 22 percent bowled in the 4 to 6 metre area, but now the percentages have gone up to close to 35 percent and that is why we can see a lot of opportunities being created due to the fuller length.

Cricket: 'Calling somebody sir is sign of admiration and respect' - Eoin Morgan dismisses alleged racism against Indians

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that he would have picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Team India playing XI had the veteran seamer been selected for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, currently being played at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.

India went on to pick the likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj in the 15-member squad for the WTC final. However, Gavaskar said that he would have picked Bhuvneshwar just for the WTC final despite concerns surrounding his fitness.

“He (Bhuvneshwar) did play the IPL this time around and there wasn’t any injury concern. He did pull out of the September-October IPL but not this time. I would have included him just for this Test match because it is being played in June," Gavaskar said.

Bhuvneshwar was trending on social media on Day 3 of the WTC final as the Indian pacers failed to make a strong mark with the ball. After bundling India out for 217, New Zealand batsmen looked at their best with the ball not offering much assistance for the Indians.

Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has said that the ability to control his anger over the years has helped him take his game forward. Bumrah, who has been lauded for his humble persona on the field, added that while he would be smiling most of the time, there is a fire burning inside all the time.

During Day 3 of the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand, Bumrah slipped near the boundary rope but rather than kicking the ground or showing other aggressive antics, Bumrah just smiled and moved on from the incident.

Bumrah, opening up about his anger issues during his younger days, told ICC: “When I started playing cricket as a youngster, I used to get angry left, right, and center. I used to do all the gimmicks back then, and it never helped my cricket.”

I used to do all the gimmicks back then, and it never helped my cricket.” However, Bumrah has grown as a cricketer over the years since making his debut in 2016 and worked out what is best for him. Sunil Gavaskar trusts that the inaugural World Test Championship Final will end in a draw after the downpour played spoilsport by and by toward the beginning of Day 4. He believes India and New Zealand will share the trophy.

Keshav Maharaj completed just the second hat-trick by a South African in Test history as the Proteas completed a 158-run victory over the West Indies on the fourth day of the second Test of the two-match series at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia on Monday.

In the penultimate over before lunch the left-arm spinner removed Kieran Powell, Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva in successive deliveries to join fast bowler Geoff Griffen, who achieved the feat at Lord's in 1960, in the record books.

Maharaj then followed up with two of the last three to fall in the afternoon to finish with figures of five for 36 as the West Indies were dismissed for 165.

Following a comprehensive innings and 63-run victory inside three days in the first Test a week earlier at the same venue, the result gave South Africa the series 2-0, their first away series triumph since 2017 in New Zealand.

"This is huge for us because we haven’t won on the road for quite some time," said South African captain Dean Elgar.

"There will be teething years as captain but this is a good, important step on the way forward."

The home side began the day on 15 without loss looking at a victory target of 324. It was unlikely but given they had chased down 395 to beat Bangladesh in February, the West Indies were not without hope.

At least not until the 13th over by which stage Shai Hope had joined skipper Kraigg Brathwaite back in the pavilion, both dismissed by pace bowler Kagiso Rabada who then persuaded Kyle Mayers into an ugly hoick which spliced to Dean Elgar.

-Hat-trick -

Maharaj then stole the headlines with his hat-trick to extinguish any fading West Indian hopes of an unlikely victory.

First, opening batsman Powell, who had looked composed and assured through most of his innings of 51, lost his head completely, hoisting Maharaj to deep midwicket where Anrich Nortje barely had to move in taking the catch just metres off the boundary rope.

Holder prodded at his first delivery for Keegan Petersen to take the sharp catch at short-leg and then Wiaan Mulder pulled off a superb snare low to his right at leg-slip when wicketkeeper-batsman da Silva attempted a leg-side glance to the hat-trick ball.

"I just decided to bowl normally and it was a brilliant catch by Wiaan," said Maharaj.

"I really didn’t know what to do after that because the excitement of the occasion overtook all of us."

Until the Maharaj intervention, South Africa had relied on the excellence of Rabada who bowled beautifully to remove Brathwaite, caught at slip by Elgar, and Hope who fended at a spiteful delivery angled into his body, a faint touch off his left glove carrying through to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.

"My job is to bowl, but whenever we need some lower-order runs I try to contribute," said Rabada who also chipped in with 61 runs in this Test which contributed to him earning him the Player of the Match award.

Rabada was the most successful bowler in the series on either side with 11 wickets.

West Indies held up for some time when play resumed after lunch but it was only a matter of time before Maharaj removed Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales to seal the win.

Roston Chase, hampered by a thigh strain sustained in the field on the third afternoon, did not bat.

"As a batting unit we let ourselves down but I must really commend the effort of the bowlers," said a dejected Brathwaite.

"We were going well but didn’t carry on. That hurt us. We know where we went wrong, including some technical stuff, so we have to work on that before the next series."

Shubman Gill feels that the bad light stopped the Indian team to have a go at Ross Taylor and make further damage into New Zealand batting on Day 3 of the World Test Championship final in Southampton.

After the finish of Day 3, Shubman Gill addressed the virtual media meeting and assessed the day for the Indian team.

"Conway was a crucial wicket for us and I feel that if we would have been able to bowl a few overs to Ross Taylor, we might have been able to get a couple of more wickets. We would have a slight edge tomorrow as both batsmen are relatively new at the crease," the young batsman said.

New Zealand finished at 101 for two with Conway being dismissed at the stroke of stumps.

"I think the Tests we played in New Zealand in 2020, we didn't have too much time to prepare as the focus was more on ODIs and T20s. As you said, we haven't been able to cross 250 in the last five Tests. This Test also we were in a solid position but we lost a couple of early wickets today. But hopefully, if we get some time, in next innings, we will cross 250" - he said

Gill applauded Kyle Jamieson for his five-wicket pull yet additionally felt that Indian pacers didn't have the rub of the green turning out well for them despite bowling great during the last two sessions.

"Jamieson was bowling well during the first spell but he didn't get many wickets. But he got his reward today and I feel our bowlers also bowled well. However, luck didn't favour us and there were a couple of half-chances that didn't go our way. Hopefully, tomorrow is a new day and it will bring us some luck."

Denmark host Russia at Euro 2020 on Monday seeking to snatch a place in the last 16 as coronavirus further disrupted the tournament, costing Scotland the services of breakout star Billy Gilmour.

Elsewhere, Austria and Ukraine go head-to-head in Bucharest for a place in the knockout phase, with the Netherlands already assured of qualification from Group C.

Denmark's opening 1-0 loss to Finland in Group B was overshadowed by Christian Eriksen's mid-match collapse due to a cardiac arrest and they were defeated by Belgium in an emotional game during which fans and players showed their support for the midfielder.

But the 1992 European champions could snatch a top-two finish if they beat Russia and already-qualified Belgium win against Finland, with a crowd of up to 25,000 cheering them on in Copenhagen.

"We're prepared to run out at the Parken and have a magical night... it's like our Euro is starting right now," said Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand.

"We're not done. We had a difficult start and we're going to start over now. We're ready to get through the group and play more games."

A win by two goals or more would be enough if Finland lose, as would any one-goal success other than 1-0.

"It would mean a lot... after everything that we've been through I think we deserve it," said captain Simon Kjaer.

Inter Milan player Eriksen has left hospital after a successful operation to have a heart defibrillator fitted.

But Russia will be out to spoil the home team's day, knowing just a point would be enough to finish second if Belgium win.

Roberto Martinez's Belgians, the world's top-ranked team, are not yet guaranteed a top-two finish, but a draw would see them through as group winners.

Ukraine, managed by Andriy Shevchenko, are just a point away from making the knockout stage for the first time after group exits in 2012 and 2016.

But Austria -- who had never won a European Championship match until they beat North Macedonia in their opener -- will be desperate to make their mark.

Even a point would likely be enough to secure a last-16 spot as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Coach Franco Foda has confirmed that Marko Arnautovic will make his first start of Euro 2020 after serving a one-match ban for insulting Macedonian players while celebrating scoring as a substitute.

The victors will face Group A winners Italy at Wembley in the next round.

The other game in Group C is a dead rubber between the Netherlands, who are assured of top spot, and already-eliminated North Macedonia.

- Scotland's Gilmour tests positive -

The Scottish Football Association announced on Monday that Chelsea midfielder Gilmour had tested positive for Covid-19, dealing a huge blow to Scotland's hopes of making it beyond the group stages of a major tournament for the first time.

Gilmour picked up the man-of-the-match award in Friday's 0-0 draw against England at Wembley in his first international start.

But the 20-year-old will miss Tuesday's clash against Croatia at Hampden with Scotland needing to win to have any chance of progressing to the last 16.

"The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland national team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for Covid-19," the Scottish FA said in a statement.

Spain captain Sergio Busquets was forced to self-isolate after a positive test earlier this month while Slovakia and Sweden have also been hit by positive tests.

We're ready to get through the group and play more games." A win by two goals or more would be enough if Finland lose, as would any one-goal success other than 1-0. - Scotland's Gilmour tests positive - The Scottish Football Association announced on Monday that Chelsea midfielder Gilmour had tested positive for Covid-19, dealing a huge blow to Scotland's hopes of making it beyond the group stages of a major tournament for the first time. World champions France have lost Ousmane Dembele for the rest of Euro 2020 after X-rays showed the Barcelona winger's knee injury would not heal in time. Dembele, 24, was hurt in the closing minutes of the 1-1 draw against Hungary in Budapest on Saturday On Sunday, Wales celebrated reaching the last 16 despite losing 1-0 to Italy in Rome. Switzerland were left to wait before finding out if they will join them following their 3-1 win against Turkey. Wales, semi-finalists at Euro 2016, will play a last-16 tie in Amsterdam next Saturday against the runners-up from Group B.

Cricket: Rain washes out Day 4 of ICC World Test Championship final

Day 1 of the World Test Championship final was wiped out because of heavy rain. Around two additional long stretches of play were lost in the following two days, which means the reserve day kicked in. However, the rain resumed on Day 4 without a ball being bowled till Tea. There is a high possibility for another washout.

In the event that the match ends in a draw or a tie, the World Test Championship Mace will be shared between India and New Zealand.

Former India and New Zealand cricketers expressed their disappointment over ICC's choice to keep just one reserve day as opposed to permitting the game to continue for full 450 overs if necessary regardless of how long it requires for the World Test Championship final to finish at the Rose Bowl.

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman and former New Zealand player Shane Bond responded after a downpour undermined another likely washout on Day 4.

Just 141.1 overs of play so far has been played out of the 450 overs. Even after the additional half-hour tomorrow and the full save day, it will not be feasible to try and draw near to the 450-over imprint to get an outcome if play is wiped out today.

Laxman said ICC didn't get the guidelines directly as both the teams would need to win lay their hands on the debut WTC trophy. In a conversation on Star Sports, he said: “It’s very sad for the fans. I think ICC did not get the rules right. All said and done, you want a champion. With so much time available, I’m sure they could have at least allowed 90 overs in 5 days to complete 450 overs. That’s something I would have expected from ICC. We were excited that there is a reserve day but I’m not sure whether the game can finish if the rain continues.”

Shane Bond said the odds of a draw or a New Zealand win are more a direct result of the downpour delays. He said: “Both teams wanna play to win. The other thing is that the pitch is offering so much to the bowlers that even if you have three-four days of play, we could find a result. If the weather delays go on for long, sometimes it means only one team can win if New Zealand bat well after the rain finishes, it puts them in the best position but I’m with VVS, however long it takes, I’d like to see 450 overs and one team come out on top."

Indian pacers struggled to find swing on Day 3 contrary to their opponents but tight spells by Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin brought the Indian team back into game. While Ashwin got rid of Tom Latham, Ishant Sharma used the pressure to dismiss Devon Conway.

"They (New Zealand) also have to look at where India were. They were 146 for 3, two set batsmen but come next morning, it's a different world altogether. The ball is moving again, you find the edges, India's tail hasn't wagged, the middle-order has collapsed and you haven't reached where you wanted to reach. Similar things can unfold tomorrow as well," Aakash Chopra told Star Sports.

Cricket: WTC Final - More pressure on New Zealand than India after Day 3, reckons Aakash Chopra

Deep Dasgupta gave the benefit to New Zealand after Day 3 yet emphasised that India are not out of the World Test Championship final yet. He cautioned that New Zealand batting could collapse similarly to India's in the coming sessions.

Many have given the advantage to New Zealand after Black Caps finished Day 3 at 101/2. A splendid bowling display from the Kiwis on the morning of Day 3 fixed the entirety of India's persistent effort on Day 2, as they were bundled out for 217. A strong beginning by New Zealand openers implied they followed India by only 116 runs with eight wickets close by toward the finish of Day 3.

Examining the day's play on his YouTube channel, Deep Dasgupta felt India shouldn't be excessively impeded subsequent to falling behind.

“New Zealand are definitely ahead, but that doesn’t mean India are out of the game. If you remember, India were in a solid position while batting as well when they were 148/4. Then there was a collapse as wickets fell, but that can also happen to New Zealand.”

India began the day at 146/3, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane looking settled. However, the Indian captain was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson without adding to his short-term score and his takeoff set off a batting collapse. India went from 149/4 to 217 hard and fast, as Kyle Jamieson got his fifth fifer in his eighth Test matches.

New Zealand, then again, played the conditions splendidly, advancing toward 101/2 with Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor at the crease. Albeit Deep Dasgupta deplored India's collapse, he feels the Kiwis may wind up in a comparable circumstance because of the testing climate conditions. He said:

“What happened with India – they didn’t score much and lost wickets as well, that can happen to New Zealand too. The English conditions are difficult, and with the weather forecast, whenever play resumes it will be in overcast conditions with more help for the bowlers.”

Graphing a bowling plan for India, Dasgupta advised India to stop the stream of runs. Tight bowling joined with troublesome batting conditions has implied scoring runs hasn't been simple in the WTC final. He feels India needs to maintain the pressure when they get back to the field.

“Although New Zealand look in good touch right now, the game is in control. Not many wickets have fallen, but the scoring rate is in check. Things improved a bit for New Zealand after Kane Williamson walked out to bat, runs started flowing a bit then. India have to keep the run rate in control because the wickets will fall in bunches whenever they fall. India should continue to keep the run rate in control like they have” - he concluded.

While New Zealand are absolutely ahead, a comeback by Indian bowlers could shift the scales indeed. Many felt they were unfortunate on Sunday notwithstanding bowling some extraordinary spells, and things could rapidly escalate at whatever point play resumes on Day 4 of the WTC final.
